We were working on our project (Our Green Hope) today where we used 3000 reusable bags to make the largest mosaic. The worker at the campus were friendly and supportive. After finishing the project, all the 3K bags were given for FREE at Kroger to encourage people to start using reusable bags instead of plastic grocery bags. Please do not attend this school for it's transition to teaching graduate program. The professors did not prepare for their classes and provided low quality education to the point that I could not justify continuing with this program after paying in over $4,000. When attempting to get them to appeal the final $800 for the semester I left the program they simply refused to give any leeway or acknowledge and error on their part and sent me collections with an additional $350 fee. With no recourse beyond their own appeals process that unsurprisingly found no problem on their end, all I can do is complain on their review boards. On the plus side, the do have a beautiful campus and I can not in anyway speak to the quality of their undergraduate program.Daniel Gore

While well established as a great Franciscan university, Marian remains up-and-coming in terms of their MAT program for teachers. I had a wonderful experience in terms of the contacts made and networks formed while attending. However, much remains to be done to increase the rigor and requirements for that particular degree. Still, Marian University will soon open the second medical school in the State of Indiana. They are also adding a seemingly much finer tuned doctoral education leadership program.Tim Lankford

The buildings are contemporary except for a few historical sites that were preserved. Other than that, it appears to be a great place. The people were friendly as we visited as well. I will start with the good. The instructors are amazing. Most of them that I have had are very intelligent and filled with the necessary knowledge to teach you. Now the bad. DO NOT LISTEN TO THE COUNSELORS!!!! Figure out what classes you need to take on your own. I spent 3.5 years there with a combination of full and part time and have no degree and no requirements for any programs that I told them I was most interested in. When I was a vulnerable 17 year old first generation college student there completely on my own they told me I needed to take reading for Nursing. For one, looking back, I placed out of reading. For two, I have yet to come across a nursing program that requires reading. It seems that they always gave me the run around and had me taking all of the classes that I did not need, and none of the classes that I did need. If you can figure out what classes you need to take on your own, then The school if great, and the education that you receive is great. If you have nobody to help you or guide you in your life and are solely dependent on the counselors advise, find an alternative.Amber Parson

I didn’t know I Loved ECC, until I moved and I was out of district so I had to go to MCC. I Hate MCC everything and everyone is shut off by 4pm and there’s no almost no teachers willing to teach past 4 (There are but only some). This is impossible to manage. I’m getting a job near ECC so I can go back. I MISS YOU. Not only does ecc have a ton a teachers, but they offer a variety of times for classes especially in the afternoon. There teachers are wonderful and dedicated (not all of course but most) and there facility offers so many different activities and clubs you can go crazy in there. Solid school. Easy(ish) to navigate. Some of the buildings are far apart and depending on your classes you might have only 10 minutes to go all the way across campus. The staff is friendly and try to help anyone navigate the school, so don't worry! Each building is clearly labeled and maps are everywhere so it's hard to get lost. There's tons of socializing areas and seating for different gatherings. Some of the popular places would be the courtyard with the fountains or the large hill in the center of campus. The campus also has a variety of food options, so whether you want smoothies, coffee, pizza, pastries or a salad there are options all around!Zena Krimzon

They have no idea how to teach what you will need in the state of Kansas. They will use other professors lectures and do not want to answer questions or teach you. So yeah if you want to teach yourself from a book and have a bunch of assignments due constantly this is the place for you. I am taking a welding certificate so I can work in the welding workforce. I want to work for the olathe railroad welding force after college. Then maybe do some underwater welding I have not quite decided. If I do I have to take a scubadiving class to get certified in that. As a student of West Valley-Mission College District, I was able to attend this college for one class which was listed on the same transcript at Mission College. It is a nice campus and more of a suburban feel to it. The instructor was nice and helpful. If it was closer to my home, I would have gone to this campus for more classes.Bill Fong

They try to keep you here longer than necessary and do not give you the correct information to transfer. The science teachers are often terrible and actively try to fail students. It has become so bad that students are trying to get them fired. I have yet to meet someone who has met a counselor and not been given misinformation.Thea Queen

Dropped by here in order to go to Panda Express. Don't know why I'm reviewing a college I'm not even part of, and this review is during a pandemic too.. well, it's purely about the aesthetic and convenience of the facilities. De Anza has quite the sizeable college grounds , so sizeable that it feels like an abandoned residential area with how empty practically everything is. It's complete with artistic facilities for music, visual arts, science buildings, sports facilities and the like. While I didn't enter, the library and the nearby park (called the sunken gardens by the college) was quite the beautiful location. The outdoor seating areas where the students would take a break and wait for classes on are widespread, shaded and very calming to be on. Not to mention the very convenient bus routes available . It's no wonder the college ended up being quite popular, it's geographically excellent and quite picturesque.Ace Hughj

De Anza College is great but not the book store. Beware of book store return policy. Make sure the books or items is in original condition or their will not refund. No sympathy at all. I bought online access book a week before class starts. My math intructor switch book. And to make matter worse I accidentally bent the access book card because it was in my backpack with one line crease and they denied the return after i picked it up on 1st day of class. Cost me $120 for a simple honest mistake. Ask for store credit or even exchange for the current hard copy of the free math book and they not willing to do anything. I'll go buy from amazon or used book somewhere else. Never again support this book store.Dru Down

Community colleges are a treasure trove of gems among them is access to the on-campus gym. De Anza College’s on-campus gym provides patrons with a quiet and well rounded experience for an affordable price. From experience, these types of gyms allow me to get my workout done in a welcoming environment, which I feel can’t be said of many gyms. Don't ever go to this college. I was 19 in 1986 and they were supposed to give me my diploma. In high school I only had 2 credits to go. I was in the high school program. The school forced me to take out a lone at the end of the term, which I didn't get the money a state carectional drug cancellor got the money. Then I was told I was too stooped to continue college, So they kicked me out. I had 24 credits that I can never use and no diploma I had to get my GED when I was 30. Everything this college did to me was illegal and Everything the people who have tryed to callect the money has been illegally done a lot of them told me over the phone how the way everythig happened was illegal. The lone was 1,400.00 now it is 10,000.00. I have paid the 1,400.00 back many times they even took my boyfriends taxes when we first got together. I have proff but they keep equnoring it. Even the people who work for the collection agency's have told me what to write and send to get the issue fixed and they have no problem ruining a life. The school and the collection agaseys have broken the law and. I'm going to have to send all my evadence to Grege Walden and pray he will halp me. If you people were smart don't go to this college don't believe a word they say. It ruined my life. The college and bank both forged my name to different papers and the school broke a lot of laws. I was never to take out a lone legally. I didn't have no diploma, no GED, They issued the loan at the end of the term which I here was illegal as well. For the most part I enjoyed my time at the school. Beautiful campus and amazing instructors. The problem I have is with the Financial Aid and other support staff. I once watched them belittle a 4.0 student for attending school. They are completely disorganized and will lose paper work, and then charge you late fees when they fail to properly apply grants and aid. They are very rude to students who ask for help even going as far as tell students that the should drop-out. All-in-all if you are paying out of pocket and have several thousand a year to burn, its a great college. If you are use any sort of aid, be prepared for a nightmare and disrespect. This place is not really a collage. You spend your money on a collage course and yet they play mind games and ditch you before you arrive on time to your class, You only waste your time playing their mind games and yet you find yourself abandoned after a few weeks realizing you have been cheated out of everything you worked for and your text books are really a sick joke with a lot missing pages ripped out and the book falling a part, and you find yourself heading to the local homeless shelter when no body is qualified for housing nor student aid. I've been attending FCC since summer of 2016 and will graduate, god willing, this spring 2019. Full time, year round, no breaks. Although parking requires at least an hour grace period, I believe the over all experience is what you make it. I've come across rude people maybe having a bad day and I've had instructors I could not relate to. Its all very frustrating. Its sad to say the success rate at this college is 17%. But, then again this is an adult school. Nobodies going to call your house when your absent or hold a parent-teacher conference when your not doing your work. I am working on a Human Service degree and have enjoyed the ups and downs of my classes. The load was a little heavier in a few and I had to buckle down and utilize the tutorial, ETC, PASS, Computer lab and all other resources available. In all the those places I found the staff and student help extremely eager to be of service. The assistance was much appreciated. I am not speaking for this business itself, merely the college district's education quality. I have taken classes at Fresno, Clovis, and Reedley Community College, and I have had an absolutely deplorable time. I don't feel like I'm getting anything from the classes; I don't feel the staff is prepared to teach online, if at all. If you are going to teach college-level English, you should not make punctuation and grammatical errors consistently. If you are teaching a law class, you should not do it from inherent bias and perspective. If you are conducting an online course, you should not have to hold up a piece of paper because you don't know how to make a slide. It is said that Fresno City College is the first Community College in California. Registration to classes is simple and online, and they offer all kind of classes. So far I have had a just ok experience here at SPSCC. First starting with the financial aid office. We are almost three weeks into the quarter and they just now processed my awards (grants that is) but it is sitting and hasn’t been disbursed yet. Every time I have inquired about it I am given the excuse of their new ctclink system. We have got to get it together! People that apply for and receive financial aid and grants need these to help get through school. They are eligible for a reason and that is because they are low income. So taking an excessive amount of time of sending students their financial aid puts a damper on not only their learning but also their living situation. This is effecting the students and the students only. Also, the bookstore listed a book for my class as required so I purchased it a week before the quarter. Come to find out the Professor is using two completely different books. Had to make another trip to the campus to return it which was an inconvenience since I’m all online classes. Then the two books needed the bookstore does not carry. It’s been challenge after challenge here and this is just the beginning.glenda fox

I attended this college for exactly five months, and I decided to leave because I lost interest in the classes that I took, and I didn't have the interest to have a major career. An education for myself would have been very important, and I had the capability to work with subjects if I was committed to the work that I was doing, but I didn't have the interest, so I decided to be a writer instead. I also left the college because I was treated carelessly by many students, and I was treated the same way in high school, so I didn't want to continue spending more time in an environment where I would continue to be disregarded. If you are committed to getting an education, then it is all a matter of interest for what your career is, and it's up to anyone for what they want best, but even if I don't have a high education, I still have moral education from my potential to be a writer. I attended a few classes here a long time ago. I needed to get the transcripts rather quickly because the deadline for University admissions is closing in. When I visited the office the lady that helped me proceeded to treat me like dirt. I asked if the document would be in an envelope and if they needed the address I was sending it to and she proceeded to mansplain transcripts ("this is the paper its going to go on after I feed it into the printer"). From the perspective of someone who works in higher education…if I were a student and had to be mansplained to every time in needed to speak to registration/financial aid/cashiering…I would complain to her boss. I'm a vet and am finishing up my first semester at Liberty. So far I have had nothing but good experiences. I was nervous about going back to school after being in service for years, but the transition has been fairly easy with all of the help lve received.My instructors are very personable and go out of their way to help me with any problems I may run into. Professors are very professional and, unlike many schools, encourage students to form their own opinions. I have never felt as though any political agendas or doctrines were being forced upon me. Non Christians are treated equally well as everyone else, and are even welcomed to challenge or question anything they may disagree with. Divinity professors are more than willing to listen to other opinions and will clearly explain anything a non believer might want to know about Christianity. The campus itself is beautiful and full of fun things to do besides schoolwork. I am actually learning, rather than simply connecting dots to get a degree and that is exactly what I hoped for. Since I've gone to the school I've got to see politicians such as Nigel Farage and Donald Trump Jr., musicians like Jeremy Camp, sports stars like Brett Favre, world class entrepreneurs, and experts such as economists who advised the president. I’ve got one year to go to graduate from this place😭 Being a student at this university has been quite a wonderful experience. To be honest I think it’s one of the it’s not the most state of the art schools in the world. It’s impossible to get bored here. I will say though one thing about this place is that if you come here on fire for Jesus then you’ll find people on fire for Jesus but if you come here to party then you’ll find the party people so make of it what you want. Yes there’s been some drama here in the past few years but there’s drama everywhere and Liberty has been able to manage it pretty well I’d say. Set up a campus tour. It was 3 hours which entailed visiting the dorms and dining areas. To include the fitness and recreation center. As well the Jerry Falwell Library and Vines Center. We walked the campus for a few hours and then we rode the bus for the remainder of the tour. Everyone was friendly. The student tour guides did an excellent job. The campus was huge. It was well maintained. They have three dorm options. One to include apartments that house seven people. Freshmen are able to bring vehicles on campus. Wide selection of dining options. A good school where you get out what you put in. Many trains stop within walking distance and buses as well. Just like any college, depending on your major, you will find good and bad professors. So always make use of the rate my professor website. I had a very pleasant experience. The administration was more competent than other schools I went to and my issues were always solved within a reasonable amount of time. The facilities I had to use for my major were in even better condition compared to some four year schools. The wifi coverage was good. Plenty of cafeterias with the best one being in the E building. Plenty of food trucks with different types of foods. Lots of seating areas with electrical ports. The class scheduling was workable with enough sections to fit almost everyone. Can't speak for any other major but it felt like that overall. They are always hiring new adjuncts so it's not the same professor teaching that one section you need all the time that everyone says is horrible. Always stay on top of your things if you want to have them resolved quickly. That's the part you play in your college years. The hand holding stops after High School. All I can say is, relax a little and have some fun. At the end of the day grades won't show the strength of your character after all is said and done.Mounia B

It seems like professors like the one I got Professor Arnold who acts likes she is going through the motions and don't there . i felt I waste my time and money which I paid out of pocket in her class and is thinking about leaving the college. Im currently in my last year at LaGuardia (majoring in business) and i have to say the Business department is full of AMAZING professors. Classes are really easy (most of them except accounting unless you're good at it) and the students are cool. I, personally, never talked to anyone or made any friends because I'm not an outgoing person. The school is constantly going under renovations and they just finished the new library and it looks AMAZING, as if it was a library from an ivy league. Food isn't that great but what do you expect, its school food [not free of course]. I went to the campus that is located in Beaverton and they are a building off site of the campus but have a Transit center right directly across from the campus making it very convenient for anyone that would like to take that versus driving and paying parking however the parking was free for me that day the campus grounds are very clean and I felt safe by the security and overall feel. there was not a lot of people at all as they are being very very careful with restrictions on covid. I attended a class for testing on the GED and they were very careful to not expose or compromise anyone's health so be prepared and warned now to be current on their covid restrictions and policiesHeather Chick Hawes

It was such a beautiful day I had gone to Sheridan's Market. Which, I have to say, is one of the best places I've found in Portland since moving here 8 years ago. I decided to go and sit under the trees in the Park blocks. I read the first chapter of "The Body Keeps the Score" with the work book. If you know someone or you yourself suffer from PTSD. It is an amazing read and helps so much. Dogs were roaming though the park with their owners. Runners everywhere. Just overall an amazing day.Bradley Renfeldt-King

The instructors are variable, with limited on-campus opportunities compares to places like OSU/UO/WSU/UW. Great place to learn, with a safe environment. The grounds are well taken care of, and the staff is very friendly, as well as patient when teaching. Very well at allowing students to understand what is being taught, and provide all the basics when it comes to starting your college credits. The entering staff are knowledgeable in helping you find assistance in areas you aren't familiar with such as tuition, loans and grants. The book store has all the stuff you need to succeed. They have several cafes on campus. The student center is the campus hang out. They have pool tables ping pong and a wide variety of other clubs and activities to get involved in. The mini processing plant on site is a great hands on learning tool they have RIGHT THERE on campus. All of the professors are very knowledgeable and understanding. If you want to learn and earn college credits this is the place. They have an adult learning center for people to get their GED. They're performing arts center for people that like to perform or do arts. Like drawing and painting. Have a nursing program that is top notch. All your basic studies are covered by experience and helpful staff. They have all sorts of activities, and clubs. This cosmetology where they offer haircuts and manicures. They offer instrumentation as well as process technology. They have a judicial class for those that would like to learn about the criminal justice system. They do scrolling all year round even on weekends If you have a 9 to 5 job and can't make it to regular classes. There's athletic program basketball and volleyball, they have a swimming pool weight room and banquet halls for rent. They have several lecture halls on campus as well as outdoor picnic area or study areas. There are some campuses one in Baytown, McNair, and Liberty. So their service area can be reached. They also have helpful Access student resources answer questions about programs and are always willing to go that extra mile and help make student success their number one goal. They have campus security to keep you safe and well-lit areas for evening classes. They offer welding and logistics, also support a wide variety of students from all over the world. I must say, the teachers are helpful and the classes are small-yes- but the support staff for the college itself (business office, counselors office, financial aid, ect) are the absolute RUDEST people I have ever met! I work full time, so I try to do most of my business with them via Email, Telephone, or Fax. When you email any of the support departments, they NEVER reply back, once you call them and mention "I emailed y'all a week ago but I never got a response back…here is my question" they just give you the run around, transfering you to 3+ people just to get a vague answer. Just today, I got cut off by the business office when I simply asked if I could pay for tuition over the phone. The "counselors" in the counselors office don't even remotely help you with your degree planning, each one of them will tell you something different so you are basically left to figure it out yourself and hope you get it right. I have talked to all different kinds of directors/administrators about these issues and they NEVER seem to be resolved. Point to my review is this is a good college just to get a degree behind your name, but be prepared to hit a ton of roadblocks/red tape along the way.Kayla W

Everything was okay all the way up until the 2020 graduation parade. When announcing my name, the announcer made a very uncomfortable mark about my dads corvette mentioning “Nice car where’d you rent that for the weekend?” I didn’t really notice until my sister played her video back after the parade. The car wasn’t rented, that’s HIS CAR FULLY PAID FOR! I didn’t like what he said and if I could see him face to face again any day, I would tell him African Americans can have luxurious and nice things as well! Some comments you keep to yourself! ACC is the best Community College in Colorado period. A large fraction of the teachers employed here are ex-Ivy League professors. My intro to business teacher was a top business professor at Clemson University. Most professors have PhD’s as opposed to a master’s degree. The grading process is very fair and these professors really care about your education and will go above and beyond to see that you succeed, granted you actually seek the help this is college people the teachers most likely aren’t going to come to you. There are so many different resources, including, but not limited too: Free tutors who are amazing ( in my opinion better than if you hired one), teachers who actually care about your future and present situations, book store/school supplies store on campus, a cafe with Caribou coffee, a milkshake machine and other great snacks, there are plenty of different areas to do school work or study that are very comfortable and convenient, they have hundreds if not thousands of majors and minors to choose from you want it, they’ve got it and so much more. Arapahoe Community College is by far the greatest her in Colorado. It is not overly priced the tuition rates are so great basically you can receive an Ivy League education for 10-15k per year. It’s an amazing way to save money especially when you are planning to go to a big university. Better to spend 10-15k on required pre- requisite classes, AKA GenEd rather than 25-75k. And since ACC has such amazingly qualified professors you won’t be behind , or unable to transfer successfully to a 4-year university, you will be able to make a smooth transition. Veteran student here, all I can say is this school has been a waste of my benefits. The administration is aware that they are understaffed, busy, and stretched far too thin. Though nothing has changed not just with ACC but CCCS as well. There was a total of 4 semesters dealing with covid and distance learning, and there was no change in how it felt to learn from Spring 2020 till this past Spring 21. Four semesters with no change in how classes are taught, how students are engaged, how professors make sure that you are understanding the information, the list goes on and on. I had given up in most of my classes that I took here. I have felt everything but motivation, and determination to want to participate and study. The course I am studied in was faulty and dated. The introductory class alone is dated and will not prepare you for what it is to be an interior designer let alone give an actual representation of the work done in the field. I didn't learn to sketch, read floor plans, study the design process, bubble charts, box charts. I LEARNED HOW TO DECORATE. It was also very clear that if you wanted to decorate and only decorate you would do well in this program. I can’t believe how much this organization has failed its students and faculty. I’m seriously contemplating whether I to stop attending ACC. It doesn’t make since that online classes cost $100 extra per credit when a professor has you read chapters, and answer the chapter questions and do a weekly discussion question. There was no feedback to where I could know if I was grasping the concepts. I’d rather research what books each class provides and read them on my own then Pay $900 to a teacher that doesn’t communicate with us at all. On top of that, I experienced a micro-aggression during my final presentation where my professor asked if my business sold burritos because we were a Latino museum… This school needs to work with educating their teachers to learn how to treat their diverse students with respect and dignity. One week before they began, DCTC contacted me saying they no longer offered the program that I signed up for. Again, ONE WEEK before classes began. This left me almost no time to scramble around looking for another school to attend for the fall semester. That kind of behavior is unacceptable and extremely unprofessional. The whole process just felt off anyway. They were always slow to respond, they fought every step of the way when I presented transfer credits from another institution. I was somewhat relieved in a way knowing I wouldn't have to deal with them any further. What a waste of time.Adam

Didn’t have the best experience overall. The instructor for the automotive technology class was only genuine once while he was teaching me something. Every other time, there was sarcasm and rudeness when trying to ask him questions. Not to mention half of the kids (quote “kids”) in the class were constantly on their phones and messing around. I wouldn’t have minded, except that we were placed in groups, therefor graded as a group. I wouldn’t return for the fact that I learned more working 3 months on the job than I did going 6 months to school, not to mention it was paid for.Sebastian Dina

Received my second degree here and they accepted a respectable number of credits from a previous college. Someone from admin called me a year or so after graduation and asked if I had gotten anywhere with my degree. When he found out what I was doing and where I had gotten in life he nearly dropped the phone. Thanks DCTC for sending me places in life I didn’t think were possible. I have graduated with five degrees from four different universities in Pittsburgh ranging from Bachelor to Doctorate degrees. I can honestly state that Duquesne was my favorite school. I received a higher quality of education and benefitted more from the smaller classes which are not offered by other schools. Most of my educators actually cared about their students and were not at all condescending (ok, there were a couple). Duquesne costs a bit more, but it was worth it. The campus is great. The classrooms; halls; and grounds are clean, traditional, and safe. My child chose to go to another school, but I would sleep better knowing that was living on campus at Duquesne rather than an apartment in Oakland. The only criticism I have is Duquesne has become more noticeably politically liberal than other Catholic schools. I’m ok with limited expression of personal liberal or conservative views, but I am disappointed when those views become a driver for the facility and administration to influence students. Some of those views have reached national attention which lowers my annual donations to the school.Jerry

We went for a campus tour today and absolutely fell in love with the campus. We are from the Pittsburgh area and I never expected the campus to be as big and charming as it is. The tour guides were very knowledgeable and the student:teacher ratio (14:1) with an average class size of 28 was a major bonus. The dorms are 2 bed frames with a desk and closet for each roommate with 2 drawers under the bed as well. They're spacious and clean. They have an amazing 4 floor workout building with every piece of equipment you could ever need! It truly is a hidden gem right in the downtown area. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city but still close enough to enjoy downtown amenities. I don't see how any other college could top this!!Melanie Phillips

A well known midsized eastern university. Good mix of commuter students and full time students living on campus. Known for programs in pharmacy. education, and music. Good mix of students from all ethnic/economic backgrounds. Although a Catholic University religion is not overly stressed.Peter Halapatz

I heard that USD is an excellent private university. They have highly accredited teaching, law, technology, language, environmental and psychology schools, as well as a number of others. I also heard that their physical education school is quite good. USD is one of our nation's top rated colleges in regards to higher education and just to get admitted, you must score fairly high on the SAT ( Taking the ACT can always helps too ) and presenting the admissions evaluation committee with a high school GPA that shows that you were in the top percentile of your graduating class is very beneficial; it also helps to have done some volunteer work and to have been on at least one or two high school committees. All of these combined together should help you gain admission to USD. This college is quite competitive-as are most of our best colleges nowadays. Most of USD's professors are seasoned-the best in our country-and very demanding; graduating in four years means a lot of hard work and can be a wearisome task and often taking a couple of summer session classes or a class or two during Christmas break can help one graduate within this time scale. They do offer scholarships however, these are difficult to get and student loans ( Federal Educational Grants can easily surpass fifty-thousand dollars a year! USD's tuition is at the high end of the scale, especially if you live off of campus ( The City of San Diego is amongst the ten highest priced "cost of living" metropolitan areas in the USA ). There are hundreds of nice condominiums, townhouses and apartments within the surrounding area however, the rental rates for a one to four bedroom unit start at about $900 to $1200 per room ( living together ) per month or about $2200 for a two bedroom townhouse/apartment, to $3500+ for a three to four bedroom ; I'm just giving you a general idea…it's a might expensive to live anywhere in San Diego. USD has many of the most beautifully designed buildings in San Diego; architectural masterpieces. Tourists who come to visit San Diego often include this private university in their sightseeing itinerary, as the photographic opportunities around this campus are simply marvelous; especially on a clear winter day from about early afternoon to sunset. They have a small visitors center, as you drive through their main entrance center and if you get lost, you should stop and ask a couple of students and they may be able to help you? There's a lot to see, including San Diego's famed Tecalote State Park, which lies just below the north side of this university.charles chiles

The campus is pretty. The teachers, at least those who are fluent in English, are mediocre, and those whose English language skills are very poor, are token so this campus can brag about being diverse. The dorms are so noisy that it is impossible to do any work in one's own room or get any sleep before 3 a.m. The people responsible for policing the dorms are too lazy and callously indifferent to do anything, and no matter how many complaints are made, it is a nightmare to live in the dirty, smelly and horribly noisy dorms. The religious classes, which are mandatory, are a total waste of time and not based on any accurate facts or historical accuracy. The head of the Student Health Center is dishonest and harmful, willing to smear any student she takes a hatred to. There are no responsible administrative officers to be found if you have a problem. This is not the place if you care about getting a solid and admirable education.Susan Lea

The University accepted my son to the credential program August 2011. After 2 years and more than $32000 in tuition he is not being allowed to do his student teaching because, in the opinion of some professors, he lacks the skills they require. These professionals (who demand that the credential candidates be able to reach and teach all students no matter what their learning styles or disabilities) should be knowledgeable enough to bring out the best in a young man who has wanted to be a teacher since in the seventh grade he was chosen by his teacher to tutor other students in reading. The professionals who are standing in the way of his dream need to evaluate their own teaching. What did they do to ensure my son's success in their program? What can they teach others when they themselves have failed as teachers?Mark Leonard

If you are a parent thinking of sending your kid here, or a student thinking about attending….DON’T!! Unless you are a parent that likes getting calls once a week that they just heard gunshots or someone they knew was robbed or had their car broken into. Or if you’re a student that doesn’t want to leave campus without wearing a bulletproof vest. They might as well pick this place up and drop it in the middle of Baghdad. Your kid would probably safer. Oh and good luck hoping the KCPD would ever patrol the area around this place and risk their lives. Lol! They even know to stay away.Dominic Foley

Many of my professors didn’t take me seriously because I didn’t follow their beliefs. In one of their classes I failed because, “since you didn’t grow up in a catholic family you’ll never get it.” I was trying as hard as I could, SI’s, tutors, everything, but as soon as the professor knew I was atheist I felt extremely ostracized, not only from the student body but from the staff as well. Rockhurst has a beautiful campus in Kansas City. It is a smaller college campus and it is located close to the Plaza. Although I haven't personally taken classes, I have been told it is a good experience. They are partnering with St Luke's for the nursing program. The security officers that I've encountered have been super friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend checking out this college.Kimber Mata

Such a terrible experience trying to just consider registering, that I am now no longer interested. I called to make an appointment with an academic adviser. I was put on hold for 20 mins without ever speaking to a human or given any other option. After 20 minutes, I hung up and called the main number. She said, "well, I can't do much, but they have direct number I can transfer you to." So, she transferred me. To some random faculty member in some department I had no interest in. That person was very nice and told me she'd walk my request over, and have someone call me back from advising. They did call me back to set up an appointment, which we did. However, I was driving and couldn't write down the details, so she assured me she would email me all the info. Of course, I never received the info. So, I just called to cancel my appointment. The overwhelming impression I got was one of incompetence, inefficiency, and that the right had didn't know what the left had was doing. Oh, and it's a half hour wait on the phone to even speak to the right hand. I was a new student, contemplating studying here. But after the way I was dealt with on the phone on my very first interaction, I now have ZERO interest in attending, and will continue my search for a school that has its act together, and knows what they are doing. I have had nothing but Positive Experiences since I have been at Edmonds Community College for the last 4 months now. I am going through the Workfirst Program at the Gateway Bldg. They had me go through the Solid Foundations Course & a College Sucess course. before I started my summer courses of Math, English; Critical Writing, & another 2-credit Write class. All of the Instructors that I have had are amazing, they helped me in every aspect of figuring out what I wanted to take by different surveys & then they help to walk you through getting your all of your Financial Documents in order & get registered for all of my classes over the next 2-years while I am working on my Degree. Very Diverse Community & everyone is so nice & helpful.Angel Boekelman

Your Education has gone elsewhere. Programs last year were changed invalidating most of my credits. Classes they used to offer in Math and Sciences are no longer being offered despite having brand new facilities just built. It is going through a strategic pivot from a transfer and foreign exchange college to a "social improvement" center. This heartfelt review is difficult for me because I actually attended Alvin junior high and Alvin high school off and on throughout my 12 years. I love this town. I was happy to attend this college for that precise reason. However, there were many many obstacles I went through to get my degree here. Frequently, I had to wait my opportunity cost between a poorly taught class, and a class dedicated towards my profession. This should not be happening. Two things caused this. Professors who do not calculate the time required to perform homework and assignments out of class Is one. The second cause were professors who should not be teaching at all. They are either rude, careless Or have some type of issue within their person. Every semester I had a professor like this even after referencing rate my professor. Eventually because of this college hiring so many professors with personal issues it eventually cost me my accumulative science and math GPA to fall under. Consequently, I would not qualify to enter into university science or math department. Every semester on student loans, I worked 10 hours a day for seven days a week for two years. There should have been no reason why my grades were affected. However, how a professor teaches is one of those things that an individual has absolutely no control over. Because of the poor department management and analysis of teaching from professors by administrative, I will no longer be able to pursue the group degree I intended on pursuing. As a compromise, I had to apply for graduation for a general studies associates to leave this college peacefully, and it not destroy my loan approval or potential to graduate in four years. Best degree plans for this college are governments, English, etc. Stay at another community college for science and math because these departments are seriously on organized and not monitored.Shauna Herrera

Keep Alvin Beautiful greeted at the Alvin City Fall cleanup. Texas Pride and others showed up 2 collect all kinds of trash and recycle. Really impressed with everybody that I got to work with as they had a great attitude and even though most were new to the event they jumped in and made things work well. Really proud of everybody who participated and made this a great event and keeping our city sparkling Update: the EMS and police cadet departments pulled together to do a huge exercise for the training of their students. Using the building abandoned building across the street they staged a mass shooter that the police cadets had to take out and then they pulled in the EMS students to help pick up and treat all the wounded. Was a terrific activity and professionally done. Very fun to participate in as a victim. Update: we had the spring Alvin clean up and had the best participation ever. 151 people brought all kinds of trash, metal recycle, electronics, batteries, paper shredding, and green waste to be recycled. Great place to take classes. My son takes classes here in the summer to transfer to his 4 year university. He has enjoyed all of his professors. I like the school because they have a great enrollment process. They've got a waiting area and they call you up by name and clearly post your name on monitors. I only give 4 stars because of their police department. If you pull through a parking space-ticket. They watch every vehicle and the slightest parking lot infraction can bring a quick ticket. They're using it as a money generator. You've got to read their police handout. A lot of rules are in place that aren't posted and a visitor can quickly find themselves ticketed. We've switched to College of the Mainland and we've been happier.David Carlisle
