20 Best Paralegal Programs In Miami, FL (2022 Updated)

I never had a chance to visit barry university before enrolling and I wound up not liking the area. The area outside of it is very ghetto and the dorms are smaller than what is shown on the layout online. I didn't feel safe in the general area so I withdrew from the university during the grace period where I should've gotten a 100% refund on classes and an 80% refund on housing. It's been almost two months since I signed and dated the form where I only agreed on paying 20% for housing and 0% for classes. I had not gone to any classes and now I am moved out and enrolled in a different college. I am still being given hell on this process where they were only responsible for calculating the 20% on housing that I owed and signing a withdrawal form. It's taken them two months to do these simple tasks that should've been made a priority and I was told it would be. I am now being billed for $7,050 for classes. For what classes? I hadn't gone to any and withdrew during the grace period. I have copies of my withdrawal form stating what I signed for and printed copies of the official website stating the corresponding dates and percentages for refunds and billing. They are now either going to resolve this issue right away or I will be in the process of sueing the university. This is ridiculous. The only person I can say actually had done their job was my academic advisor who also agreed that this process has been a ridiculous money scam.Miranda Moran

What can I say: I love Barry. Even though I live way up here in Jax, I commuted down there for classes once a month. It was worth it to me. I’m in the PhD nursing program and I can say it really changed my life. Dr. Jessie Colin, who is also my chair, is the most intelligent and remarkable person I have ever met. The 5 stars is for her and how she is running the doctoral program. Thank you Dr. Colin! The rest of the nursing faculty are also wonderful. Lovely women (too many to name). I’m so glad I made the decision to come to this school. I’ve learned so much that this post would be too long to describe it all! It’s an intellectually challenging program, so be ready to learn. This school in general really focuses on social justice. If you are not open minded to multi-culturalism and discovering new ways of thinking outside of the norm, this may not be the school for you. I tell people this because I know how the culture is in America today (ignorance is bliss). You have to accept to live the ‘Barry Life’, which is being open to culture and seeking justice for those whose voices might go unheard. Like some say on other reviews, yes, the area in which the school is in is kinda sketchy. And be prepared, the student parking is awful. Barry University is the worst. I was enrolled for one semester in 2013. The way the school system is set up is terrible. NO ONE is on the same page, rarely will credits transfer, teachers do not truly care or seemed interested in making personal relationships (mind you this is a PRIVATE college), and lastly…getting your transcripts sent to other colleges is the HARDEST. They go through different programs like "Transcripts on Demand" so there's no help from Barry because they don't even know whats going on in the transcript process. They just buy some company to come handle all of their students and transcripts for them. My transcripts are now late being sent to two different colleges and its been over a month since I sent my consent form (since when do you need a consent form to sent transcripts…usually you pay a fee and that's that). Currently attending and have been struck with how little people here care about their students’ education. I’ve called for advisors to help me with transfer papers and financial aid to ask about my scholarship money (they never refunded it back to me) and I’ve been hung up, transfered to other lines, and even worst… gotten a voicemail saying they’re not available even after calling 5 times during different days and hours. It’s as if the faculty here doesn’t work. The professors are mediocre, really lazy and most have an accent that is hard to understand. Never answer to emails either and don’t help their students pass. I’ve gotten all As and one B but that’s due to how much I tried and stressed myself since I didn’t get any help here. Ever since the pandemic, it’s been difficult getting a hold of different departments and professors. When you sign up for a class, they usually cancel the class for the semester for various reasons. They don’t communicate changes in policy i.e. when you enroll for a class and your funding doesn’t come through, they no longer automatically drop you from the class so they expect you to pay for that class, even if you didn’t take it. Apparently they no longer automatically drop you for non-payment. It’s an unethical practice. Students should be notified of this policy change. The only bright side of this school has been the Access program. They’ve always answered calls and provided help.Kim Sanchez

Glitchy system that logs in when it feels like it, making me pay for classes I DID NOT TAKE and sent me to collections. Staff may lack 3rd grade education let alone college, the only thing they can direct you to is the bathroom. Appealing anything takes several tries and a firework display over Bayside spelling out "stop screwing me i.d. #000000000". Best thing I could've done for myself is not even bother with MDC. Do not go there for the adult culinary programs. They basically treat you like you work for their cafeteria and teach you NOTHING. The instructors are unprofessional, abrasive, and treat the adult students like children. You will be working in groups with absolutely no instruction (hands-on or otherwise) and you may get lucky and be able to make a small part of the recipe since groups are 4-5 people, each group works on a different recipe, and you will be preparing foods for them to sell to their high school students. The instructor basically heads you a recipe and that’s the extent of your “learning” aside from lots of tedious book work that you also do on your own. You will not even be allowed to taste what you made since it will be sold to school children. The instructor told us if they cannot sell the product you make, you get a “failing” grade, despite zero instruction. When asked why we aren’t all individually participating in making recipes, the answer was that they couldn’t sell that many of one item. I thought I paid a good amount of money (out-of-pocket) for them to cover the cost so that I could make a recipe and not make one recipe with four other people. I got my money back and already had a high-paying career in risk management, but other students continued with the program in hopes of obtaining work in restaurants or increasing their pay. I feel this program takes advantage of the difficult situations these other students faced, many of whom paid with financial aid or GI Bills. Also, the recipes they provide are portioned for home baking or cooking, not commercial. Find something or somewhere better to go. When I voiced my complaints about the instructor’s brash behavior and unwillingness to teach so that she could stand around on her cell phone texting, there were many excuses given and not once was she held accountable. On the contrary, I was told that she actively taught the class once or twice after I left and she chastised the adult students for complaining and then reverted back to her McDonald’s/DMV level of professionalism. Save y’all time and money and go else where I was interested in there LPN program i called everyday for over two weeks and kept getting transferred to a voicemail it was so bad I had to went down there in person to speak to the person that’s in charge of that department it was a black African lady very nasty attitude name Rachel A Victor. When I first arrived I explained to the person at the front desk the reason why I was there and I told the gentleman I kept leaving voicemails on this lady phone and send her email and no answer when she called me in the back the Rachel A Victor she’s the counselor am referring too she kept saying I always checked my voicemail and email I said well I have been calling nonstop for over two weeks she said well I didn’t receive any voicemail or any email. She kept going on and on to the point I felt uncomfortable and I said it’s ok am here now and I just want to get info how to get started she did ask for my email and send me an email but after that she started going on and on again about she never get any call or email as if am lie in to her. She was very rude and unprofessional to the point I felt uncomfortable I end up leaving and I send her the documents she requested high school diploma ect please to keep in mind I had to home school for personal reason but my mom made sure the school I attended was accredited school i am a former broward college student I also went to nova university for a few classes for my major and I had to provide my high school diploma ect I never had any problems with getting into any school with my high school diploma. Leaving this review for any student who is interested in taking the Digital Multimedia Class. If you are like me and chose in person learning instead of learning online for a reason, this is not the course for you. The majority of this course is taught online, yes, even while you are in class. When you need help, the teacher will tell you to “google it” . You are better off paying for a LinkedIn subscription and just learning at your own pace. Because on top of teaching yourself (essentially) you also have strenuous deadlines. Which most students aren’t able to make, being that we weren’t actually taught how to do the assignment. This results in a majority of students dropping out, as he will tell you himself. Thought it wouldn’t happened to me but it did. And the real problem is that the “teacher” is simply not teaching. I was highly disappointed. I furthered and completed my education at City College. I achieved my Associates Degree in Paralegal / Legal Assisting in 2017 and took a year off and now I am one Semester away from achieving my Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a focus in Project Management! I have been able to utilize every resource offered by City College. First off it’s like a place of refuge where I not only go to learn but get away from life. The Professors are always willing to give freely of their time to assist in achieving my goals. Career Services door is always opened, it’s through their highly recommended services that I obtained my current job as a Trial Specialist II. Furthermore, when I was seeking a promotion I went back for a mock interview and help with updating my resume, they are always ready, will, and, able to help. Financial aid stays on top of budgeting out the money to make it all possible. My peers are in bearable age range, not too young, and not too old. We as a student body in my classes worked to achieve our same achievements. I have made some people here at City College that will remain my friends forever. My last and final goal would be to become an Ambassador but seems a little more challenging for students in the evening class program. If I could give this school 0 stars I would. This school is a joke. No one is on the same page when it comes to anything. They do not reach out to the students when there is an issue. The student only finds out when it is almost too late. If it wasn't for the fact that I am almost done with the program and Dr. Luka (One of the best things going for City College) I would have quit a long time ago. I am taking classes that does not make sense to me. The financial aid department is a joke. You speak to three different people and get three different answers. I hate coming to this school, but I am too far ahead. So many professors have come and gone. You are marked absent if you leave class early although they don't start on time due to the fact that you are waiting on students that arrive late. I am counting down the days until this is all over as I have had just about enough of this school. Everyone is so warm welcoming in the beginning but once you sign up and they meet there quota for attendance and seat filling, you are nothing to them. I entered City College not knowing what to expect. So today I can tell you I high recommend. City College a very humble environment. It makes you feel at home. I come from a very culturally diverse background and I feel like City College understands that. The faculty and admin staff were very committed to the success of each cohort and were very helpful each step of the way. There are so many interesting courses taught by amazing and qualified professors. The professors for the classes I have taken thus far have been pretty great overall with a thorough understanding of their subject and concern for student's success. Medical Assistant program is awesome. It is perfectly well conceived and easy to follow. As a good student you just need to follow the guide and your professors' advises. I consider I have learned a lot and improved my whole knowledge, not only about medical field but in general. I attended Florida National University for my Bachelor's as well as my Master's and it was well worth it. My experience started with the excellent teachers that care about the student as an individual. I was happy with all my instructors but there were two instructors that stood out the most. Dr. Bullen and Dr. Gonzalez are both great instructors who guided me in being able to accomplish my end goal which was to graduate with as much knowledge as possible. Through their guidance they motivated me and passed to me much of their vast experience. They played a big part in guiding me in my academic journey and if I had any questions or doubts I could always count on them to be available to answer any questions in a satisfying manner. I have really enjoyed being a student and I recommend this school to anyone, in my case for the Ultrasound program at South Campus, where people know you, care about you and are willing to mentor you. Staff is super nice people that do their part to make it happen for you. Instructors always were willing to help and instruct give guidance whenever needed, they are very well educated and always ready to provide services for any students to be successful, and you can tell that they enjoy what they are teaching. They were above what I expected. The only complaint I have is that the program is no accredited and you have to take an extra test before present to the ARDMS, but at the end you prepare more. After having been arrested on very serious felony charges, I was recommended the services of Brett Schwartz of Hager & Schwartz. I strongly recommend you to read about my HORRIBLE experience before making your choice. I’m the co-founder of a technology company focusing on lead generation. One of my top software developers in UKRAINE had interest in moving to USA. For this reason, we proceeded to apply for his H1B Visa. I was UNFORTUNATELY referred to Camilo of Loigica via a very close friend. On Jan 11, 2021. I had my first call with Camilo Espinosa. I presented my case and he told me that my employee and my company had all requirements to be smoothly approved for a H1B visa and that the premium plan would be the best choice for me, which didn't include money back guarantee. So I chose the premium plan for $5k instead of the VIP for $1,5k extra. We applied for the lottery and we lucky won in March, 2021. Loigica prepared the full application and chose the job title of Computer Programmer which required very low qualifications even though my employee had 2 masters’ degree. In October 2021, we received a Request For Evidence, which clearly stated that Loigica had chosen the wrong job title of Computer Programmer. Loigica asked me lots of documents and I submitted about 50 to 100 pages. I barely got any feedback from them. This other reputable law firm in California, show me all the mistakes that Loigica made from wrong dates to the terrible job position choice. I then reached out to Camilo about 5 times, the owner, and explained the mistakes and all it caused to my employee. And he simply offered me what they offer everybody, pay another $5,000 to re-apply the following year. Showing no compassion for my employee or fairness as his lawfirm made the mistakes and he suggested the plan with no money back guarantee. After chasing him for weeks and have him spoke with another lawyer he agreed to re-apply for free. Great, right? We participated to the lottery and won again. Once we won the lottery, Camilo changed his mind and asked again other $5,000. Obviously, he was hoping that we would have lost the lottery. Bottom line I wasted more than $8,000 with Loigica, I got no Visa, my employee is locked in a war zone, and I’m starting the whole process again after 1 year wasted with another lawfirm, while my employee and his wife could have been already safe and enjoying their life here in a safe place in USA. This by far is one the worst schools I have ever been to. I am stuck as I am a year in already. This school is all about money. The director of the school, Dr. Bonilla is not for the students in my opinion. They have you taking courses that you should not be taking. I currently work in the field that I am attending this school for. The school wants me to take a computer course, CPR, as well as professional strategies. I mean I work on computers everyday, so what is a basic computer class going to teach me? Then when I signed up to take the computer class online, the link for the orientation gave my personal computer a virus and I contacted the school. I even tried to use the link at work and the professor had the nerve to tell me to contact my IT department at work, not well we can email you the syllabus and you follow along. No I am signed up for a professional strategy class where I am supposed to learn how to write a resume, references, and job searching for the field that I enrolled in. As I explained, I am already in the field. I have been in this field for over 10 years. Later I will have to take a CPR class. Which makes no sense to me. I mean, this class takes three months, when the YMCA does the same class in one day and for free. This school charges tuition and program fees. It seems as though the tuition is the same for all programs and the only thing that is different is the program fees. I don't understand how the private investigation program is the same price as the medical office admin. If you want to exempt classes and have your work or life studies applied, they charge a fee for that. The only good part about this school is Dr. Luka. None of the people in financial aid are on the same page. One person says one thing and the next person say something different. I hate that I even enrolled in this school. The prices for the books are ridiculous as well as the uniforms that they swear you have to wear, but I have yet to put on one. The bookstore claim that they will buy back books that you have purchased. HAHAHA that is a joke. They will either say oh we are not buying back books at this time or they will offer nearly pennies and then resale those same books for over $50.00. So if you are thinking about enrolling in this school, please do yourself a favor and look for another school. I am stuck here as it is too late for me and I doubt that any of the classes that I took are transferrable to another school. So I am stuck in this high price school.Valerie Pew

My experience of the nursing program was not the best. This is a very expensive program, but it offers very little structure and organization. As a student, I would never be informed of anything until the last possible minute. Some professors do not offer consistency or transparency with the syllabus, and decisions are made aimlessly as they see fit. As a student, it was very stressful to deal with this unpredictability in addition to the expect stresses of nursing school. To begin to explain my horrible experience here would be the beginning of a very angry novel, which is a shame because most of the professors are extraordinarily nice and helpful. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS UNIVERSITY!!!! Positive reviews come from admissions counselors at SOUTH UNIVERSITY. BEWARE!!!!! I had a really bad experience at South University and yes I would agree with the statements about them being all about the money. I was told my transfer credits were approved, BUT once I was enrolled—signed all documents—then they told me that I had to retake more classes $$$ (again, after being “approved”). Tuition is ridiculous, I was charged well over $4,000 for 2 classes. Now they won’t even release my transcripts until I pay off this amount. BE CAREFUL!!!! The institution is disorganized, and I got mixed information from different people. I never knew who was in charge of anything…. It all seems smooth and nice until you sign up. BTW I received both As in my classes, this is an honest review based on my experience and it doesn’t come from “someone who’s not doing what they are supposed to”Santiago Cardona

I am an alumni of South University and I only experienced a great experience. I see people posting reviews that the school only cares about your money, which is not correct. There is a student academic progress process in which the students who are not doing well academically will be given the opportunity to improve their grades. If they do not, they will be academically dismissed from the school. The professors care about the students success and help in any way that they can. I highly recommend South University. The tuition if not cheap, but if you are looking for small classes, individualized attention and success…South University is the school for you. The admissions team was amazing when I got there (of course I had an appointment) the wait wasn't long at all. The next day I went to see the financial aid, which didn't take much longer then any other college that I had gone to. The teachers are really nice and help you when you need any help with assignments. The tuition is pretty high but it is a private school that helps when you ask for what you need in a polite manner. Though I am upset that I can not rollover all of my previous credit from the last college that was closed down, I'm still happy that they have taken what they could! I started my process with Mr. Bell a few years ago to receive my Green Card. Anda & Boris has been excellent from start to finish. I could write a story on my entire experience. First off, I was approved for the E-2 visa application for myself, my spouse and my child. First stage I met with Anda and Boris at their office. I gave them all the info and what my goal is. They advised me with information I did not know of. If it were possible to post this review without any stars I would have done that, but this “1” star is left due to the requirement to leave one to post a review. This firm had my case for about two years and did absolutely nothing, but send out demand letters the entire time. HOAs are smart and legally organized bodies that know demand letters are nothing but a slap on the wrist. It means little to nothing to issue a demand letter unless the matter is going to be litigated to prove one tried to resolve the matter and give notice to the other party without pursuing a lawsuit. When I advised the Attorney that demand letters are not working and no HOA response is a legal tactic. The Attorney stated this case may have to be litigated. Then, the firm dropped my case. This firm is all bark and no bite after two years I have nothing but demand letters. FPLG goes after very low hanging fruit and will not pursue litigation if that is what is required to get an HOA to act, which is very probable since demand letters have no legal authority to force one to act. The attorney only calls to tell you of a status update, which is to advise that they sent out a demand letters. It’s unfortunate that this firm does not actively pursue claims that are viable legal claims. The firm requested a copy of my HOA documents (which I obtained they do not issue subpoenas or anything you do all the work) none of which absolved my HOA of any responsibility or fault to not act on my claim; however, the firm drops the claim because it’s too costly to litigate and actually fight the law in court it’s cheaper to drop the matter and bill for USPS stamps and administrative time. DO NOT HIRE THIS OFFICE, THESE PEOPLE ARE LIARS AND CROOKS!! If you want to pay thousands of dollars and then do your green card application yourself, then do it !! I hired them in 2020. I saw Ms. Santana that one time when she was “closing the deal” with me, and never again till this day did I see her or even speak to her on the phone, EVER. It was always some paralegal, always a different person. When I saw her that one time, she told me we will not send my green card application together with the I-360 WAVA because it’s better that way, she said if my I-360 gets denied then my green card will be denied too… Then my WAVA got approved and they told me I have to pay ANOTHER $3000 for the green card. When I asked what is the reason they ask so much money (this is me talking to some lady in finances, they didn’t even give me the decency of putting me on the phone with a lawyer or someone who knows law), she was annoyed that I was asking too much questions, practically tried to coerce me into paying them money. I ENDED UP DOING MY OWN GREEN CARD APPLICATION!!!!!! I also ended up noticing that a lot of the documentation that I sent to the office in support of my case, they never forwarded to the immigration. This is the worst Law Firm to hire if you are a Landlord looking to evict a non paying Tenant. They will take your money and will never file the eviction. I hired them on November 20, 2021 and paid the $660.00 fees as requested and was confirmed that all paperwork were good to go to file the eviction. After almost 2 weeks I asked to know about the status of the case, I was finally sent a long scary tactic email to tell me that they are still reviewing the case to be certain all paperwork is okay. While on November 22, 2021 before I called to make the payment over the phone, it was confirmed by the office all paperwork was ready to go that day once the payment is received. They also had the nerve, after 2 weeks failing to file the eviction, that they have an express service for an additional $200.00 to send the money so then they can file my eviction. Please don't fall for their flat fees, it's a scam. You are not going to get service that you are paying for. I requested a refund which they said they were going to process, but almost one month later no refund has been received yet.
