The housing staff is horrible, they have put 2 charges on my account and they admitted to not knowing how they got my name however they refused to take it off even when the camera showed I never stayed, 3 weeks later I spoke to Hr for them to remove it and they did it the same day. The other one was removed 2 weeks later after the payment date. I would also recommend you bring in your own food or check it before leaving the dinning hall. I found so much mold and was served under cooked to many times. The drinks apply as well check the ice whole before u get if there is black stuff around it use the other machines.(not sure if they are gonna clean up before the fall but there is also mold in between the soda machines) Not only the dinning side but be careful with the soda/juice in the deli side the they both are spoiled. And check the expiration date of each snack you do choose to take I had 3 month old jello and I still can’t get that’s fussy taste out my mouth. Either side will not hesitate to sell old milk or old food and bunch it all up to be given out on the weekends. There is a wëëd problem at this school as well so be careful because if anyone in your dorm doesn’t it you maybe be accused of doing it as well by the campus police. Not on to the professors, you need to hold some of their hand and walk them three days the grading process. I had 3 professors(1 was in person and the other 2 was online) last semester wait til the end of the semester to grade everyone from my midterms to out introductions at the beginning. For online teachers make sure you double check their comments after they grade and read up on stuff ahead of time so u can message them early because they don’t respond to message in a timely manner. Navarro College was STELLAR! As a former Bulldog, I'm proud to have called this school my home. Professors are knowledgeable and interesting individuals, the staff are all charming and helpful, and the atmosphere of the entire facility is one of safety and growth. Plus, Dr. Fagan (the man in charge of it all) is incredibly personable and makes a point of greeting and interacting with students every chance he gets! The staff at the Corsicana campus are very rude. Upon inquiring about something the registrar didn’t know about; she went on to yell at me over the counter while the lobby was full of other students. There are only a handful of instructors that are dedicated and willing to see their students succeed. After all we pay to go there and I believe that the students need to treated with a bit of respect. The Cashiers are generally nice and will help you out.Nethmal Perera

This University has a lot of shady practices going on. Please be careful with taking information given by financial aid employees as fact. I have been given conflicting information from this department to where I feel I can no longer trust them. I HIGHLY recommend doing emailing communications with them and BCC other departments that is pertinent to your concern for a second opinion. Disappointed doesn’t even begin to describe how I feel about this school. I live on campus and a week can’t go by without something breaking. I’m beginning to think Lamar puts LITERAL bandaids on things to “fix” the problem. Also the dorms are not what I’d call clean. I moved into my summer dorm a few days ago and the place was infested with gnats. I’ve killed at least one hundred of these things in a matter of a few days. Daughter is a Freshman there this year. I’m completely impressed with the campus And the dorms are amazing never seen ones so nice. The student resources are the highlight for me, the learning lab for learning disabilities is simply perfect. Try calling financial aid or student accounts and you know how living in purgatory feels like. I suggest you’ll go there physically even if you’re infected with Covid19 as you have a better chance of reaching them in person. If I could give this university a zero star, I would do it. As an international student, I have millions of terrible experiences with this university. The graduate school and the international students office have been really really rude. They will try to frustrate you using any way they could. Also, the insurance requirement for international students have been so unfair. They will charge you lots lots of money for the insurance for the summer time even though you are not enrolled in any classes during the summer. Also, the staff working in the graduate school have been so rude and know very little. Some of the graduate and undergraduate classes have been so meaningless and do not worth the money.yaqing cao

Atm a lot of construction is going around the university. Either adding new school building, dinning areas, or apartments around the school. The gym is great, great gym equipment, indoor track, and classes that you can sign up for if you do not like working out alone. Building are easy to locate but if you have trouble finding them people will be nice to direct to the correct locations. Great place to learn, with a safe environment. The grounds are well taken care of, and the staff is very friendly, as well as patient when teaching. Very well at allowing students to understand what is being taught, and provide all the basics when it comes to starting your college credits. The entering staff are knowledgeable in helping you find assistance in areas you aren't familiar with such as tuition, loans and grants. The book store has all the stuff you need to succeed. They have several cafes on campus. The student center is the campus hang out. They have pool tables ping pong and a wide variety of other clubs and activities to get involved in. The mini processing plant on site is a great hands on learning tool they have RIGHT THERE on campus. All of the professors are very knowledgeable and understanding. If you want to learn and earn college credits this is the place. They have an adult learning center for people to get their GED. They're performing arts center for people that like to perform or do arts. Like drawing and painting. Have a nursing program that is top notch. All your basic studies are covered by experience and helpful staff. They have all sorts of activities, and clubs. This cosmetology where they offer haircuts and manicures. They offer instrumentation as well as process technology. They have a judicial class for those that would like to learn about the criminal justice system. They do scrolling all year round even on weekends If you have a 9 to 5 job and can't make it to regular classes. There's athletic program basketball and volleyball, they have a swimming pool weight room and banquet halls for rent. They have several lecture halls on campus as well as outdoor picnic area or study areas. There are some campuses one in Baytown, McNair, and Liberty. So their service area can be reached. They also have helpful Access student resources answer questions about programs and are always willing to go that extra mile and help make student success their number one goal. I must say, the teachers are helpful and the classes are small-yes- but the support staff for the college itself (business office, counselors office, financial aid, ect) are the absolute RUDEST people I have ever met! I work full time, so I try to do most of my business with them via Email, Telephone, or Fax. When you email any of the support departments, they NEVER reply back, once you call them and mention "I emailed y'all a week ago but I never got a response back…here is my question" they just give you the run around, transfering you to 3+ people just to get a vague answer. Just today, I got cut off by the business office when I simply asked if I could pay for tuition over the phone. The "counselors" in the counselors office don't even remotely help you with your degree planning, each one of them will tell you something different so you are basically left to figure it out yourself and hope you get it right. I have talked to all different kinds of directors/administrators about these issues and they NEVER seem to be resolved. Point to my review is this is a good college just to get a degree behind your name, but be prepared to hit a ton of roadblocks/red tape along the way.Kayla W

Love the school, very understanding teachers & other faculty! I graduated from here my first semester of my senior year in high school before deciding to attend UT! Everything was okay all the way up until the 2020 graduation parade. When announcing my name, the announcer made a very uncomfortable mark about my dads corvette mentioning “Nice car where’d you rent that for the weekend?” I didn’t really notice until my sister played her video back after the parade. The car wasn’t rented, that’s HIS CAR FULLY PAID FOR! I have been attending Texas Wesleyan since the Spring 2018 semester with a semester break after my first one. This school has changed my life. I've seen some of the other reviews and claims that it is a "liberal university… brainwashing their students," or that it is "too expensive" and "not worth the price." From my experience here, none of that is true. To start with the first claim, what happens here inside the classroom is that the professors, both liberal and conservative, require their students to provide evidence for their claims when they hand out assignments about controversial and non-controversial topics. That is not brainwashing; it is teaching students how to think for themselves, and in a society devoted to freedom, one cannot be free if they cannot think for themselves and question what they've been taught. As to the other claims about the price of the school, yes, this private university is more expensive than other schools in the area. However, what you are getting when you pay for these classes is a much smaller class size than any other school that I know if in DFW. This is extremely helpful for all students that attend and are willing to take advantage of professor office hours and the ability to ask questions in the middle of class. It only takes a willingness to use the resources available, resources we pay for, to be successful. With that in mind, tuition does go up, as it does at every college and university, but Texas Wesleyan goes out of its way to find grants, scholarships, and other types of tuition assistance for their students. There is a lot of care and love put into every aspect of what this school does and I wouldn't trade it for any other school in the metroplex.Steven Leach

Choose another school. They charge way too much and do nothing to better the student living quarters. Have old dirty washers and dryers. Clogged sinks. Took too long to set dates for graduation ceremonies. Literally didn’t have the times until about 4 wks prior to graduation. Very unorganized. Maintenance never responds to or fixes repair requests. This heartfelt review is difficult for me because I actually attended Alvin junior high and Alvin high school off and on throughout my 12 years. I love this town. I was happy to attend this college for that precise reason. However, there were many many obstacles I went through to get my degree here. Frequently, I had to wait my opportunity cost between a poorly taught class, and a class dedicated towards my profession. This should not be happening. Two things caused this. Professors who do not calculate the time required to perform homework and assignments out of class Is one. The second cause were professors who should not be teaching at all. They are either rude, careless Or have some type of issue within their person. Every semester I had a professor like this even after referencing rate my professor. Eventually because of this college hiring so many professors with personal issues it eventually cost me my accumulative science and math GPA to fall under. Consequently, I would not qualify to enter into university science or math department. Every semester on student loans, I worked 10 hours a day for seven days a week for two years. There should have been no reason why my grades were affected. However, how a professor teaches is one of those things that an individual has absolutely no control over. Because of the poor department management and analysis of teaching from professors by administrative, I will no longer be able to pursue the group degree I intended on pursuing. As a compromise, I had to apply for graduation for a general studies associates to leave this college peacefully, and it not destroy my loan approval or potential to graduate in four years. Best degree plans for this college are governments, English, etc. Stay at another community college for science and math because these departments are seriously on organized and not monitored.Shauna Herrera

Keep Alvin Beautiful greeted at the Alvin City Fall cleanup. Texas Pride and others showed up 2 collect all kinds of trash and recycle. Really impressed with everybody that I got to work with as they had a great attitude and even though most were new to the event they jumped in and made things work well. Really proud of everybody who participated and made this a great event and keeping our city sparkling Update: the EMS and police cadet departments pulled together to do a huge exercise for the training of their students. Using the building abandoned building across the street they staged a mass shooter that the police cadets had to take out and then they pulled in the EMS students to help pick up and treat all the wounded. Was a terrific activity and professionally done. Very fun to participate in as a victim. Update: we had the spring Alvin clean up and had the best participation ever. 151 people brought all kinds of trash, metal recycle, electronics, batteries, paper shredding, and green waste to be recycled. Great place to take classes. My son takes classes here in the summer to transfer to his 4 year university. He has enjoyed all of his professors. I like the school because they have a great enrollment process. They've got a waiting area and they call you up by name and clearly post your name on monitors. I only give 4 stars because of their police department. If you pull through a parking space-ticket. They watch every vehicle and the slightest parking lot infraction can bring a quick ticket. They're using it as a money generator. You've got to read their police handout. A lot of rules are in place that aren't posted and a visitor can quickly find themselves ticketed. I took classes after having graduated from a different university years ago. The administration here – specifically, admissions and Student Business Services – is horrible to work with. Rude, don't answer their phones, poor automated phone system, basically take your money and make you live with the poor customer service they provide because once you're enrolled, you don't have a choice, right? Additionally, I took a class from the worst professor I have ever had. His name I unfortunately can't recall. He patronized students who weren't well-versed in calculus and was rude in general. His teaching method consisted entirely of projecting pages of the book on the board and copying the sample problems. I couldn't believe it. He did not answer and student questions and did not seem to care about his students or his own abilities as a professor. I actually stopped attending the course, wasting a thousand dollars, because I couldn't sit through another class. Im graduating soon and I feel confident I will find a job through my hard work. Work very hard. Yes it's fun. But don't slip up your freshman year. In summary: Overcrowded, nearly over-priced, but with under-funded departments. Not handicapped friendly or even fat person friendly (they haven't upgraded half the lecture halls so if you're not stick thin be prepared to sit uncomfortably in a tight chair surrounded by hundreds of other people). Near non-existent diversity. Do not transfer here, you will receive no assistance. If this is all you can afford and if you manage to find a place to live near enough to campus then this school is OKAY. Why do I fill out a PDF to get a transcript sent to another college? Most Colleges (Including Austin Community College and the Alamo College District) have a web application that you use to request your transcript. You can pay through the app and then the tool sends the transcript. You staff told me to fill out a PDF and send it in and will take one to two weeks unless I want to come in and pick it up. It is 2022 going on 2023, maybe you should look into that. It will most likely reduce to work on your staff.Jon Wachter

I am an international student came here to study masters in technology management program. Firstly the program " Masters in Technology Management" doesn't have anything tech in the course. Most of the syllabus revolves around drones, project management and leadership. The program doesn't have any internship or CPT which is a huge disadvantage. There are no scholarships available for this course. This is more like a mini PHD where in you have to do so much research on several topics which are absolutely waste and have no relevance in the practical world. Neither is this degree valued for getting a job. The professors are only bothered about having research in APA format and doing coursework like a research with no relevance to the practical corporate world. As an international student, i took this course with a hope to get some practical exposure like internship and getting placed in a technology company. But i have wasted all my TIME, MONEY and EFFORT on this useless course. The professors are very much involved in their research work and least interested in teaching or helping students be prepared for corporate world.neelu B

The university is great small classes, great environment and accessible online school. The staff on the other hand is terrible. I emailed my advisor in regards to some credits missing on my transcript and its been 2 months and still haven't heard from her. I called her, left her some voicemails and still no answer. I took 3 online classes and it would take days sometimes week for the professors to respond. I chose to stay because I'm already enrolled but would not recommend it to other students. I absolutely love this school ! I recently transferred her from a community college and I couldn't be happier. The professors really focus on the students they are all looking for you to succeed. They're are also tons of student organizations, events, and guest speakers plus a ton more benefits like a fitness center with a pool, a track, a rock climbing wall and a bunch more, they're is also free counseling and free health care (well it's part of tuition ) but it's amazing. This school is literally the worst, they take all day in the advising office and registration office. They will have one or two people helping more than 20 people and you would think that would make them have a sense of urgency but they do not. They all act as if they don’t feel like helping you and move so damn slow. I received 2 parking tickets during the time I have attended this school because two hours in a meter is not even enough. The best advisor is Shannon, the rest of them act like they don’t care and will not give you any guidance when your new to college, some will over talk you and not even pay attention or listen to what you are saying to them. This school will literally make you not want to attend college at all with how difficult they make the process. I feel like putting a bad review I’m currently trying to see a councilor here at El Centro I came Thursday before 5pm and they told me it was closed but on the website they close at 5pm. Come to find out today a staff member told me they closed an hour early because they were having a spring break party. Today I’m trying to speak to an advisor I’m the only one here sitting in the lobby still waiting for someone to help me. I used to love this school but honestly service has gone down the drain. I really enjoy the student life here and most of the staff here is friendly, but overall the lack of professors and class schedule availablity is very disturbing. Classes that are available during the day is very limited and a majority are only offered at night plus a good 3/4 of the classes are taught by the same professors. The STEM department is very underfunded, I feel that this college is missing out on a big opportunity since the general area around here is next up and coming medical center (League City, Webster, Clear Lake, etc.). These two have been a big issue that have come up a lot when talking to other students. Another drawback of this campus is that you cannot graduate on time due to the lack of open class availablity. Also, this university is not a friendly parent student, so if you are a student that has kids I would look elsewhere. Overall, I feel like this is a very underfunded univeristy that needs a lot of improvement and it is sad to say that the community colleges are better than this one.Ashley M

Went to help move my daughter into her dorm/room on Saturday 1/16/21 & evryone we saw were very helpful, questions were answered & its been just a couple of days but my daughter has had an amazing experience!!! This University is trash. They can't keep professors, but their tuition keeps going up. Don't expect any help from your advisor because they won't be in your field of work and have zero clue about your major. They are business people only. The STEM department has drama in it so they are a mess. I actually attend the other campus, but have had to stop by here for books or to see the proff. So far it seems like a very organized campus. I've come at different times of the day and there's always parking (sometimes further away, but I carry an umbrella for the sun) Once there were mariachi playing outside. The employees are always very helpful & professional and most of the students appear to be engaged in their environment. The bathrooms have always been clean when I've gone. I've taken 3 courses so far and the classes have been very engaging. This is a career change for me so I'm older, but I don't feel out of place.Gracie G

I would not recommend this university to any of my friends or family, if zero stars were an option this is what they would receive, yes they did expand the university but made things worse. Graduation ceremonies are held opposite of their campus area, for instance if you are attending the Brownsville campus, your graduation ceremony will be held in Edinburg and vice versa. The cost of attending has sky rocketed. A couple of my friends who earned a double major had to fight tooth and nail for their respective degree majors'. To make things worse their parking is atrocious, even to get a visitor pass, you must pay!? What. The. Hell. Man! Lastly, they care nothing for their veterans – this university only works if you either know or are related to the person who is offering the job, if I'm being honest, our military veterans sacrificed more than any regular civilian ever would and therefore should be consider first and foremost amongst people who are not veterans. Very little effort put in by the staff to do anything more than waste their students' time and money. Impossible to get hold of any of the advisory staff when it comes to things like tuition, curriculum, or international student programs. My SO has been going to this college on an education visa for years (more than she should have needed to to begin with) and sank a lot of money into getting a proper education, and the lack of effort to facilitate this for both her and other students- domestic or foreign- deeply disturbs me. It's been nothing but a constant source of stress and a constant hemorrhage in her wallet. Apparently this school is on probation for their overt lack of quality/effort but because members of the school body have good connections it's been kept open. School board really needs to dig their claws into this place and start making some major, sincere changes.Dag Von Danger

You get what you pay for. They offer some of the lowest tuition rates in the state, but that's the only upside. Facilities are poor, parking is rarely available, and there is a severe lack of course availability. Communication has been very poor, and we've struggled to get information from the college nor any assistance with enrollment. I had to make a complaint with the President's office just to get the help I needed. Plus, their employees are rather nasty and sociopathic. They have little-to-no concern for their students, and they're not afraid to show it. There is a lot of room for improvement here. Plus, I don't like how they are using student tuition money to recruit new students from Mexico, as well as undocumented aliens. Worry about your own students first.G68

I am getting ready to graduate in May with honors from the AAS Paralegal Program at CALS and have had such a positive experience. I am earning my degree online and as a busy working mom and grandma, I appreciate the accessibility and flexibility. The teachers do an amazing and thorough job, while the curriculum provides a solid educational foundation in Paralegal Studies. Don't get me wrong, it's work, but the harder you work, the brighter your future. Everyone I have dealt with at CALS has been so pleasant and supportive. I want to say a big thank you to Sarah Casey, the school's Office Manager. She keeps us all organized and gets us the materials we need. Plus she's really, really nice. Eric Happe, the Director of Distance Education does a great job with keeping the classes rolling and I really appreciate his friendliness and accessibility. PRO TIP: As you're getting close to completing your certificate or degree, make sure you visit with Tami Riggs in Career Services. She polished up my resume, gave me advice on how to answer tough questions in an interview, encouraged me, and was sincerely devoted to finding just the right job for me. I haven't even graduated yet but she sent me on an interview at a fantastic firm and I got the job! Thank you Tami. You are wonderful. Thank you CALS for helping me to realize my dreams and surpass my goals. This is an excellent school to gain the knowledge you need to become a paralegal. Covid was a challenging year for everyone. After being laid off from my 16-year law firm job as a Word Processor, I investigated career paths in the legal field. I decided to study with the Center for Advanced Legal Studies to earn my Paralegal Certificate and earn my Associate in Advanced Legal Studies. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Experienced attorneys teach the course material in various fields, and you learn material that will help you succeed in a real-life law practice. The assignment and study materials are easy to understand yet challenging. The teachers go above and beyond to offer their assistance if needed. They will work with you, again and again, to thoroughly understand the course material so you may achieve your best grade possible. Tami Riggs, the Director of Outreach and Career Services, was great to work with. I sent her my resume, and she helped me update it to be more concise and current. She then submitted my resume out to a few firms. It took only two weeks, and I had multiple offers from multiple firms. I was in control of my future this time, and boy, did that feel good. I chose an excellent firm with full-time hours, good pay, and benefits. 2021 is going to be a better and successful year due to CALS and my hard work. As an adult working in the legal industry for over 20 years, going back to school was not an easy decision. However, it was a necessary decision I needed to make in order to elevate into a more challenging and rewarding position. CALS afforded me with the education I needed to make my goal a reality. As a bonus, their career services division counseled and guided me not necessarily to a new employer but, prepared me to step into new employment opportunities with my current employer. I went there over 30 years ago to study Court Reporting. It was an intense program, and I wasn't able to keep up the pace, so I had to leave. Unless you are committed to constant practice & study, this is not the school for you. You must pass each speed plateau in order to move on to the next level, and you only have limited chances to do that. The program (in my day) was designed to get you out in the job market quickly. The instructors I had back then were very professional & emphasized quality & professionalism always. A high-quality institution, but you must be ready for the pace. Good luck!waterfall

I'm currently having one of the worst experiences ever! I was completely unaware of being enrolled in online classes once the pandemic started. I never spoke with anyone or confirmed this was ok. I specifically chose on campus classes due my struggle with specific subjects. I was unaware until an instructor contacted me. I emailed advising and was removed from the class I was still charged and a hold was put on my account. I have never talked to or discussed classes with anyone for the fall and i am also scheduled and charged for those classes as well. Now i'm told i have to file an appeal to try to have the balance and the hold removed and i cant remove the fall classes until the balance is cleared. Every time I speak with anyone i'm forwarded to someone or a dept. that cant help or explain!Christi Chavis

While I'd love to give a better review, I have to be honest. If you are utilizing veteran services, prepare for a ridiculous amount of wait time. There's never anyone online via chat and when you call if someone answers, it becomes a series of transference to different people or "I'll have someone contact you." This poses an issue as a current student attempting to be successful in class. I've been dealing with this for a year now, so waring to Veterans with education benefits find a different school or be prepared to wait and get the runaround.Mr. Ford

I am finding it impossible to get a return address for a delivery I received containing 2 bottles of your CBD oil and 2 packets of the CBD gummy bears which was delivered to me by Hermes. I initially wanted to cancel the order but was informed that I could not. I did not realise the total price of these items and then my shock at finding out I was calling USA as I am in Scotland UK. Not only have I been charged over £150 Sterling but then I will be billed for the call to the US which was about 20minutes long. Please advisePat Macpherson

Mr. Flores and his team are the best. In a moment where I was seeking legal representation and didn’t really know where to look I took my chances and trusted Mr. Flores. Hired for a child support case. Everything started off smoothly. Celia answered all my questions/concerns, at first. The date of court date rolled around and I had to contact Celia, the day before, in order to ask her how the court hearing would happen(zoom). I had to reach out. Pena nor Celia knew what was it that I wanted for the child support/visitation rights. The day before court , celia was scrambling around trying to figure out details about me and the case. I had to reach out to them. It took 1 mth for Celia to answer 3 simple, yes or no questions. Always stating that she would get back to me or consult with mr. Pena. The day before the 2nd court date, again, they called asking me for the same details as before. At the end, during court, mr. Pena was just repeating to the Judge what i wanted. I understand due to Covid-19 everything is trickier and harder. Received the court order and it wasn't signed by the judge nor Pena. Called Celia, and she would excuse herself in order to consult with Pena. I had to present myself to their office to ask questions about court order/child support multiple times. I might of been able to represent myself and gotten the same verdict. Would i recommend THIS lawyer? Not really. Would i recommend A lawyer for child support/visitation rights? Yes. The judge/court would take you more seriously and see you more responsible.Daniela Puente

I truly believe that most of the previous reviews are false. I based my hire off these reviews and WHAT A MISTAKE! I hired Mr Pena for a divorce case, which he originally told me would take 3-6 months to complete, a year later I am still not divorced and needed to hire and pay another attorney. When I was going to hire Mr Pena I not once had a problem setting our first appointment and speaking to him, however as the case got long and longer all they had were excuses to not meet with him. I NOT MET WITH HIM ONCE AFTER! The paralegal Celia, would answer my phone calls and text messages in a very rude manner after a point in time, without her taking into consideration it had already been a year and I was unable to get divorced. ONE YEAR! If I did not contact them, they would not reach out to me. I had to hire another attorney and make double of an expense and guess what? NEVER DID I HEAR FROM THEM AGAIN! All I can say in true honesty is make you research thoroughly I think this is were I failed and made a mistake. Make sure you invest your money properly.Karina Cantu
