Graduated here in 2018. Yes the school is not perfect. but it is affordable and offers all sorts of academic programs for students & for those who are interested in learning a new skill. A few issues with the homeless people who easily make their way in the school's restroom and leave all their mess inside. A bit more security is also needed because of the area surrounding the school, but overall it's a good community college. Looking back now, I miss every moment I got to spend here. I graduated spring 2022 and is the best experience in my life. 2014 to 2016 the services are bad. When they build the student services building 2017 They are improving till now and a lot of students go there to enroll very good service now than before. PROS: -Nearly all of courses are open enrollment, which makes it very easy to enroll. -There is a range of classes and many of them are offered both online and on campus. -The staff are very friendly and helpful. -The refunds department is very helpful. -Enrollment is easy to work with. -Certificate programs can be more applicable to real world than some undergrad degrees Neutral: -There is a clear distinction between UCLA and UCLA Extension. Cons: -No student ID cards are issued to extension students -Generally excluded from using library, recreational activities, some other resources that require a student ID. -You do not get a student email account -The extension parking permits are only usable after 4:30pm, so if you perhaps find yourself at the school to meet with your professor or student services earlier in the day, you will need to find another parking option. -The Data Science Intensive program is not worth the money. I am extremely disheartened with the deterioration in student support services. Instead of passing the buck, pretending a request hasn't been received, asking for more steps to be taken, more hoops to be jumped, and employing diversion tactics, how about we all do our jobs and take accountability for our actions or lack thereof. Another problem is the staff doesn't stick. Students don't know whom to contact for any issues. One doesn't always want to bother the academic advisor or DSO. I do appreciate new initiatives. International students were thrown out of the country on July 6, 2020. We are dealing with the trauma of a disrupted life and demolished dreams. The new circumstances are not yet favorable for international students. I applaud the efforts of the school (UCLA Extension with UCLA) to help us cope in this regard even if some instructors don't get it.Rati Tripathi

UCLA Extension has shown themselves to be incredibly disappointing in how they support their students (they don't). With the recent administration ruling, which threatened international students' stay in the states, this institution has given students zero productive updates and guidelines. Nothing on their website. Nothing on their social media. They did not reach out to their students to show any solidarity in this very difficult and scary time. Avoid this place if you can especially if you're a student planning to study abroad. Just by their lack of response /especially/ during a time as difficult as this, they will not support you if anything else comes up. I've obtained my master's and in the final stages of completing my doctorate at Saybrook in the Mind Body Medicine program (now called Integrative health science, I believe). Attending this school has been a game changer for me personally and professionally. The caliber of people who attend the school are incredible and it opens ones professional networks and capacities for creative work. The school is well organized. The hybrid model of education, which entails residential academic retreats and online working and collaboration is in sync with the changing world of education. Edit: Over $100k for their Psychology PhD program… and not even APA accredited. I know APA is not required in some states but I I know of other non APA PhD programs that are literally half the cost of Saybrook’s. I like that they’re non profit, regionally accredited & offer some interesting programs but they are pretty expensive… you can get a Harvard masters degree for less than their masters programs..Josh Esc

Great experience as both a student and an athlete. Professors and staff take a personal interest in the student’s educational and spiritual growth. In hindsight, the various rules implemented were an excellent opportunity for students to submit to the Lord in obedience and grow in their faith beyond what might have otherwise been required of them. The institution does a great job at teaching God’s word and encouraging and equipping students to grow. Most of the professors hold to an identical hermeneutic which creates a general uniformity of teaching across the campus. The accessibility of the staff will allow opportunities for students to address areas of concern or perhaps opposing interpretations of scripture. Ultimately the staff encourages gospel-centered living and promotes the student’s ability to understand God’s word. As a business major, the education was exceptional. The small class sizes fostered an environment where students could easily get to know each other and their professors and not get lost in the crowd. I visited this place a month ago and started enrolling here, and it was one of the coolest places, and definitely colleges, that I have ever seen. Regarding COVID-19, they treat everyone's convictions with respect, but never seems to force anything onto anybody. Their doctrine is rock solid, and the leadership conviction is unwavering. The school is the perfect size, and is high quality in everything they do. Their admissions staff is incredible, their chapel on the Bible are terrific (check them out on YouTube), and they are some of the most God-fearing and loving people that I have ever seen. Overpriced for a middle of nowhere boring desert town. The school lacks a lot and it shows. They try to be cool by having a rock wall or compost but NEVER lowered their prices during the start of the pandemic. i spoke with an advisor remotely and she had her ipad on the coachella ticket website. students arent even the first priority for employees on the clock. Parking is overpriced and public transportation there is a nightmare too unsafe. I wanted 2022 to be online and they options in the fall were so bad and limited. I'm a fellow alumni here so I'm familiar with the area. I came here today to eat my lunch since we can't dine in during this pandemic. So CSUN is very quiet now and it's free parking. I was able to find parking easily here and found a nice spot to eat my food while enjoying the outdoor. There were some people walking around or having picnic but CSUN is a big campus so you can social distant. Just keep in mind everything is closed and locked so if you need to use the bathroom, you likely won't find one.Peter Xaymountry

Operation School Bell is a volunteer organization which provides clothing, shoes, backpacks, school supplies, and grooming supplies to poor and homeless students in LAUSD. Each student also receives a book and a toy of their choosing. They also have an annual event to dress high school girls for prom. Each girl chooses a dress, shoes and accessories. Hair and makeup professionals provide expert advice and seamstresses do minor alterations. This organization does so much to improve.the lives of students. el Camino Compton is really convenient which is why I go here, classes do not fill up as often as Torrence, and it is close to my house. although convenient the staff at this school are unorganized, clueless and so rude. I went to the library to make a copy and they switched from having print cards to paying cash, i asked what happens to the money on my old print card and no one had an answer, then I pay to make copies and a couple of my copies the toner appeared to be low on, i asked if they could reprint because i didn't have anymore money and the library staff claimed to not know how to help me bc the system was new and they didn't have access to the printers so i had to just deal with it. I then go to financial aid to ask a question and they were beyond rude in there. the lady went to answer my questions stopped in the middle of her sentence to talk to someone else and never got back to me then said "I'm busy". i ask the guy in the office for a paper and he told me he couldn't help me either so i went to the computer lab to print the paper out myself, (bc they suggested i do that and then they would answer all my questions) i go to the computer lab to print and the gentleman in there was kind but the lady was soo rude it made me wish i didn't have to use the services. i spent 10 mins waiting on someone to help me just log onto the computer bc i didn't know the log in info and they kept telling me to hold on while they gossip a student finally helped me and the internet was so slow i waited 15 minutes (no joke) for page to load so i could print the bog fee waiver. i spent 50 cent to print the paper filled it out and took it back to financial aid only for them to tell me 1. i had to re sign up to ask a question bc they called my name while i was gone, and then 5 mins later tell me the system was down and they couldn't help anymore. lastly they told me that i couldn't even turn in the paper bc of my income last year (which i asked about 5 times and they kept not helping me) then when he seen i was frustrated he laughed. the staff at this school is garbage. your there to help students and you act like its a problem to do it… go find another job if you are miserable and rude about helping. ive had awesome professors and teachers this is more directed towards the financial aid office and computer lab staffBrittany Broderick

So this is my review based on my last semester here the summer they got their preliminary accreditation back. I had a teacher from the first day told me I didn't look like I wanted to be there and that my tone of voice was not enthusiastic for being there to learn. To which I responded I worked graveyard at my new job last night after leaving a 60 hour a week job, I'm in the process of recuperating and at this moment don't have the energy to oblige you. Eventually I was singled out and several students went to the dean for his biased insensitive behavior. The dean had left in vacation and his secretary advised us of the process but gave us the understanding in situations such as these escalation was unlikely. We can continue the process, I continued so I ended up having a meeting with the deans representative, I gave him a well documented list of days and what was said during the interaction. I used specific language from the guide on reporting and honestly I cried from the repeating everything and the stress. Only to have the department tell the teacher he had various complaints and that he needed to change, that's it. Next day he came in and announced that if students had a problem they should come directly to him (as if anyone would feel comfortable leaving anonymity to say the things to his face) then proceeded to explain how he was right in his methods and how we were just just trying to get our way and then proceeded to allow students that came to him and apologized for not being good the chance to turn in late work. This was my experience dealing with the new administration and I will never go back to this school prior while an El Camino satellite school for several years had great experiences and teacher. And to boot they supposedly has summer financial aid for which I never received, so I needlessly suffered, was mistreated and put money into a class that was 4 units. Please follow your gut about teachers don't stay just bc you need the class it's really not worth the mental stressAmanda Escobedo

Compton: No, you're not in danger and you won't get threaten nor is it "ghetto." Some people really love to make exaggerations and degrade it's reputation due to it's name. Anyway, the classes are quite accessible since it's relatively small campus. The student success center has a sizeable library, computer lab, and tutoring services. Cafeteria food is reasonably priced and there's events hosted by students, faculty and guest speakers alike. It also has a partnership with Cal State Dominguez and other universities that enables students to secure their options when transfered. Many buses pass here, hence public transit is accessible and the Metro Blue Line Artesia station isn't too far. It has most general ed courses available. Personally, I've met some amazing and down to Earth people here, from all walks of life. They have interesting stories to share, but they get lost in the crowd and are dismissed. It's a blessing to follow their advice to pursue goals that are beyond academic. I've been a student here for a few semesters and cannot recall a bad experience.Jose Guerrero Neri

I graduated from this school in 2016 with associates of science in chemistry. The staff is so caring and the faculty really care about the students. There are some professors who are worth their weight in gold. If you find yourself having trouble in math or English, the tutoring center is filled with patient tutors who help you get through the class. Swapmeet Sundays 8 am to 3 pm. After reopening July 4th, only half of the selling lot was reopened. Nice place to go to walk. Some deals if you look hard enough. I applied to the adult studies program to finish up my bachelors degree in late 2010. This means I actually attended classes at a satellite campus, not the main campus in Azusa. The satellite facilities are excellent and your graduation ceremony is held at the same time as the convention students. This was a very touch, in that it facilitated family coming to see your college graduation. Although I only visited the main a few times, somehow they make you feel connected to the entire university. I was extremely pleased with the caliber of instruction that each instructor provided. Every aspect of this school is well managed and professional. I completed a bachelors degree Human Development and successfully transitioned into a teaching credentialing program at a state school. I read some reviews below giving the school one star…. the reasons should not be a surprise…. "they don't approve of same gender relationships", "they have strict rules"…. Well, yes, it is a Christian college and they CLEARLY point out what they believe and what they reinforce when going through the admissions process. In the end, this school is a great choice, if you are looking for a college that has very low teacher to student ratios, this is it. If you are looking for a school that is safe for you or child, this is it. If you are looking to complete your bachelors, but can't make it Azusa, look into one of their satellite campuses.Marcos Nunez

I honestly don't know what Azusa Pacific University staff members do all day. I wonder if APU staff work hard enough to earn their salaries. I am a current Azusa Pacific University student who was accepted for admission in the middle of June. I requested a transfer credit evaluation more than one month ago, but it took MORE THAN A MONTH for APU staff to begin my transfer credit evaluation. Their lame excuse is that they have not received a required form that must be submitted. APU staff did NOT inform me that my transfer credit evaluation was taking a long time because of a change in administration (a new dean). I am STRONGLY considering transferring to a different school, one in which I can receive PERSONALIZED ATTENTION. Zero stars for Azusa Pacific University staff!!!! I would have given this school a better review however the way they have handled covid has made me lose so much respect for this school. They have made the students lives a living hell, class is not only mandatory but your camera has to be on and if it’s not we don’t receive credit for class. If we have more than a certain amount of absences they take up to 3% off of our grade for every additional absence… ridiculous. Not to mention they raised tuition for students instead of giving us some of our money back because of the certain circumstances. They will find any way possible to charge you money. First time attended here is 2012. I cannot believe an entire decade has slipped in a blink. The campus is beautiful as usual. The 2nd floor of store still has that sushi place, cafe, and Karl’s Jr, as well as those two big screens that served us for Euro Cups in 2012 summer. new students are energetic and passionate about everything just like us before. Expected so much more from Cal State LA. However, there are not as many classes available, had to take Saturday classes because there were no online options or options during the week for those that work, the people at the cashiers office are highly disrespectful, housing does not assist when needed, and the campus itself is located in a bad neighborhood. There have been multiple shootings while I have attended/lived here. If you are considering other cal states choose those before Cal State LA….There is no social life at this school. The food courts close at 4-5pm and several cars have been broken into. By far my worst choice I could have made was to attend this school. I feel like they do not care about their students. I transferred from LACC to this University to pursue my BS in Mechanical Engineering and It has been a great experience so far. Most of professor are caring and really good at the subject they teach. In addition, most of professors do not force you to buy the books listed for the class, instead they give you options to access the material. They have many resources to help students succeed. For instance, they are letting students borrow Ipads for the length of their carreers. They also let us borrow laptops and even hot spots. After transferring from ELAC I did almost 3 years at CSULA and I got my Bachelor of Science. I got help whenever I needed from faculty, financial aid and other resources inside the campus. I was able to met great friends and professors too. There is always activities to do inside the campus, every semester they do orientations for new students, often you get emails regarding anything related to our education and campus. This university needs Jesus. I have seen too much. I was a student at BIOLA until over a year ago I decided to leave. There is a specific 'BIOLA mold' that you have to fit, otherwise you will not fit in at all. you have to be evangelical (even though they allow all denominations to attend). If you are not white, or at least act like you are white, then you will not fit in at all. They have an annual SCORR (student congress on racial reconciliation) conference, but the students think that we should pretend that there is no race and that there is only one race (the human race). but don't realize that people of difference races experience life and the world differently. The one thing that bothers me the most is that they will allow pretty much anyone in for a chapel speaker. Kind of like TBN allows pretty much anyone on there channel. Each person is pointing in a different direction saying, "the right way is this way". And they have become so worldly. One good example is concerning their view on LGBT rights. Many years ago, mid twentieth century, they would not hesitate to hire coloured staff and faculty, in fact they would do it despite the many people that were strongly against it. But now they are extremely ambiguous about their view on LGBT people. I have many other things to say, but they are too personal. If you are considering going to this school and are not straight, white (or are greatly influenced by the white culture), evangelical, or between 17 and 21 years old, you should seriously pray about it. God did many amazing things for me there, but none of them had to do with the people there. He showed me His presence and His power and His love, but not through the Bible classes, not through the faculty/staff, not through the students. Many of the bible classes were too vague and required that your Bible be a textbook. Other biblical/theological classes don't even address the love, power, grace, peace, freedom of Jesus Christ. The faculty/staff are really hit or miss, but having personal conversations with some of them I noticed that they either focus on reason or they have strange views that they also teach in their classes. The students are neglectful in my opinion, they probably don't usually intend to be, but it truly is hard when you have a test or essay due in 4-6 different classes. It really bothers me that, just before I left, there was an announcement about a certain speaker who was coming back and how after they were here about 6 years before, that an almost revival occurred and lasted for a few weeks. The way they talked about this was very positive and the response was also very positive. The Biola (Bible Institute Of Los Angeles-founded 1908) Campus in La Mirada California is a beautiful place to visit, even if you're not planning to become a student. The creek that goes through campus swells up to a wild river when it rains, which is usually only in the winter. The library with the round lantern as identifier, is a must visit building, note that when you enter it says "I am the light of the world" but when you leave, enlightened by your studies, it says "YOU are the light of the world" Both are Bible verses, John 8:12 and Matthew 5:14 respectively.Kees Van Hartingsveldt

Hated it! For a "Christian College" It's shore is very racist. The first time I visited my best friend's campus I've received plenty of stares and light whispers like I do not belong. Teachers and counselors where very rude. The reason why I visited this college in the first place is because I wanted to try to register to be closer to my faith. I attended Los Angeles Southwest jr College from September 1976 and majored in Literature for three semesters until I joined the U.S. Air Force. Back then I did not know what a good school that it really was. We moved from the bungalows to the big new building after my first semester. Some of our professors were: Bernie Katz (who wrote the psychology book and taught martial arts). Almost a year ago I felt abandon from the college. I am a veteran who had to go through hoops and fences to really get my benefits. Do I recommend this college for veterans? The short answer is NO. Through-out the pandemic they decided to move everything online and really did a terrible job of implementing services for veterans in need. Did I mention they are actively spending more than they earn? Irresponsibility at its finest. This school is running on debt, but those resources aren't being used effectively. Don't support this school, please go to a different campus if you are a veteran or Latino. Go to ELAC or WLAC you will 100% have a better school life balance.Deh Tide

If you are touring and planning to attend GET THERE EARLY SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO WAIT IN LONG LINE TO NO WHERE. I missed whatever happened that morning being 15minutes late. Very unorganized it was as confusing Make sure you are already enrolled if you are or have student ID IDK 😐 like I said it was very confusing. They have a lot goodies that was the best part but only for students,😑😐 oh please wear comfy shoes for lots lots lots standing + walkingDaisy “Day” None
