I have been a student of DePaul University – Law College since 2019. Before joining DePaul I was contemplating between DePaul and other Universities, I am so happy I made the right choice to join DePaul. Not only is it a prestigious University with many famous alumni names, but also because it is a University that has made the list of the top best Universities for many years. Depaul has the best facility you can hope to study under, the administration are very helpful and my advisor, is one of the best, always available whenever I needed assistance, guidance or help. If you are a graduate of DePaul, you can be sure that employers will want to add you to their staff. Being part of DePaul, is being part of a large educational family. There are two campuses, the main one is located in Lincoln Park and the other one is located in the Loop, right in the heart of the business hub, if you are attending College of Law or College of Business. There are two huge libraries in the Loop campus, with access to Starbucks, as well as to, Barnes and Nobles. In both Colleges you have cafeterias amd study lounges. There is a Toastmasters club at DePaul and many other groups and clubs to join. Also, DePaul offers a help center, fpr students who may need extra help with certain classes, as well as, a writing center for whenever you need your essays reviewed, with feedback and assistance in improving it before submission. With all of the above and more, I could not possibly list all of the things DePaul os known for, or offers, but I can tell you one thing, if you happen to choose DePaul and become accepted, be sure you are part of the many successful people who will graduate with pride. You can be a full fledged patriotic American, but just because your parents travel and you may have a foreign transcript (from high school/ middle school) you are deemed an international student. To add insult to injury this particular issue entailed the student already having graduated from a neighboring community college. Yet still, they are deemed international. An obvious protocol set in place to guzzle money out of the student. Wasn’t even thrilled about their level of academics to begin with, so not having this school as an option isn’t a loss in the slightest for our family. Hispanic Heritage event went on without a hitch. Free of Problems and controversy. Entertainment was Great Food was Awesome. The Highlight was the introduction of the Main Speakers The New Era Young Lord's. Also some Associates and Friends from there Early Year's. The Bomba group provided good Entertainment and a Festive Atmosphere. In the Middle Sixties you could count the Minorities attending DePaul. The all played on the Basketball team. Had a chance to stop into the Harper Building and the welcoming atrium and staff. The administrative staff here are very friendly and knowledgeable. I enjoy the mix of old buildings and new ones. Going in the old buildings, is like go into a time capsule. Student's seem to enjoy the campus, as well as residents of the neighborhood. Months after earning my degree, I’m still recovering from the great mess that is NEIU. Our teachers ranged from grossly incompetent to straight up vindictive, although a few were good. We, as a collective, had to report one of our teachers to the dean due to her mind boggling incompetence, inability to stick to any sort of schedule, inability to create assignments, explain them, set deadlines, and provide directions or rubrics (i.e., teaching 101… and this teacher is in the Dept of Ed!)… the list goes on, but what’s worse is that the dean totally gaslighted us. She didn’t hear us out AT ALL and made us feel like idiots. The sequencing in our program made zero sense and the “required” classes weren’t even offered. Went to the head of the program (who was another teacher we almost reported for refusing to follow 504 plans which is a federal law, but we’d given up by then) and she said those classes weren’t even a thing even though their website had them up. Magically, the classes that we said attracted us to the program in the first place disappeared from the website that week with no acknowledgement from the program director. There’s just no direction here at all. It was hell. I’m so glad it’s over. 2 stars for cost and a few decent, kind, and smart teachers. If I could do it all again, I’d really consider going into debt at a more expensive university.Betty L

The school is very diverse and a lower budget choice. I graduated from their science/education programs. I found my degree in Biology to be challenging and largely based on book memorization with occasional hands on experience. Their lab experience seemed dated compared to other institutions. This tends to be the nature of Biology, but I wouldn't say they excelled in making the experience amazing or poor. Their education program however was very lacking. It seemed out of touch with employers/districts needs. There was little to no focus on methodology, classroom management techniques other than case studies. These are the two most important skills needed in order to achieve student mastery. They did not model what they taught and I found many of their classes to be instructor led discussions about student based teaching. There was an immense amount of time spent on lesson plans and preparing portfolio's. While both are important record keeping practices, they should have been interwoven into a curriculum focused on skills based learning.becky harwell

This review is based on a tour that I took, and I will talk about most of the pictures that I took. There are monitors in the hallways. They have the weather on them or events. There's a useful board that has all of the students’ activities. When you walk around you will see the balloons that were put together creatively. The presentation was about majors, tuition, and housing. They were kind enough to give us a tour of The Nest. There is plenty of parking space. The lobby was well designed. It had a quiet place to study, a gaming place, and a gym. When we went to see the model of the apartments. I realized that there were alarms and fire extinguishers, which is a good thing for safety. The apartment has everything in it! It has a dishwasher, microwave, and furniture. There were 4 rooms, 2 bathrooms, and a living room. The cafeteria was huge and I like the fact that students and professors eat there. The food wasn’t that bad. I like the fries and the chicken fingers more than cheeseburger.3b0p

I went to this school back in 2015-2016. I was living near the school at the time, but I had to move over 4 hours away after escaping domestic violence. This school hires professors that do not want to see domestic violence victims succeed. Put your money elsewhere. Here is my story: Even with my broken wrist, I managed to complete the courses and coursework, and for a time, the professors were understanding of my situation, since I was not cleared to go back to work yet and was relying on my financial aid to pay for basic things like my phone and my health bills related to my wrist. I ended up getting cleared to go back to work, and had the job opportunity of a lifetime present itself to me. I accepted so I could get back on my feet. However, this was around the same time I had to complete one of my first residency requirements. My student adviser at the time was willing to work with me and found a course that I could take to meet my work life needs. However, it was the only option available to me. Since I had to leave for training for two weeks, the work campus did not allow personal business to be conducted on their computers, which included school work. I emailed my professor, and explained to him the situation that I was going to be gone for training when the class began and explained to him my predicament, asking for a compromise so I wouldn't lose my job. Part of the coursework was to attend GoToMeeting lectures. However, due to the nature of my work, I was unable to stream these lectures as no recording cameras were allowed. I explained all of this to him in e-mails. He did not listen to my emails, giving me responses that made it seem like he wasn't even reading my e-mails, and forwarded me back to the student adviser and washed his hands of it. Ultimately, after enduring a layover at an airport after training had finished, this professor expected me to attend a Go-To-Meeting class with two hours of sleep, then berate me for my lack of participation, after explaining to him my job's requirements and rules, and what had happened since a hurricane caused a delay and lengthy layover on my flight. Thankfully, I am working now, but I wished I never had attend this school. This school only put me further in debt and now I can't even attend the school I want.Reika Chan

I attended 9-11 years ago, so hopefully this has changed. The school psychology program was weirdly punitive. They shamed people for not knowing things like how to dress professionally instead of giving them concrete advice for what they expected. (This is classist.) They required us to be over-the-top obedient to professors and supervisors, even if they were doing something unethical. Meanwhile, they taught how kids do better with a strengths-based approach in which they are listened to. This is true and does not stop when a person turns 18. The professors make students retake classes and redo practicum hours for disagreeing or expressing concern. So students have to pay extra money to learn to suppress their critical thinking. They encourage students to think about "best practices" in their first year practicum. But in the second year their response to problems at practicum sites is "that's just how it is". I was discouraged to get involved with anything "political" like the teachers' strike and campaign to replace campus police officers with counselors because "no one will want to hire you". Their answer to disparities between wealthy suburban districts and underfunded districts like Chicago's was "don't work at CPS if you don't like it". 0/10 Do not recommend.Erin Rusmi

From the Counseling Psychology program perspective, my experience have been exceptional! From the knowledge of the professors to the structured placement process and classroom agendas, I love it! It has been a life changer for me, considering what I’ve learned during my 2 1/2 years here. The instructors are very knowledgeable and have experience on the subjects they’re teaching. You are provided a professional development coach to help maintain stability in classes and graduate on time. Someone is always there to answer questions or help in ways they can. All staff is professional and lead towards the process of your professional development as well . Classes are flexible and class sizes are comfortable ( max 15 students unless blended). I'm not entirely sure how the reviews I have written (two of them thus far) keep getting deleted from Google, but I digress. I attended the "School" for over a year and I strongly discourage (may I say "beg") any reader from attending Adler. I'm going to try to discuss objective, hard facts about the School, instead of just stating a potentially biased opinion. 1. The School's administration is notoriously uncaring of students (another review states that the school is run more like a business–and I agree with this). In my cohort, 20% (that is 1 in 5 of the students in my class) were dismissed under, what we shall call, suspicious circumstances. If you are ever in a situation which calls for interactions with them, you may as well drop out of the School right then, because they will ignore you and administratively withdraw you without hesitation. 2. You will be hard pressed to find a school which has a higher tuition (cost per credit) than Adler. The vast majority of Adler's programs are Master's programs–which, speaking from a financial perspective (and I realize this is not the most ideal way to perceive anything)–will cost you at least $50,000 to complete. By contrast to other schools, this is outrageous. Just a heads up, most Master's level therapists don't make significantly more than $50,000 a year. 3. And what does a student get with this cost? I have mentioned the administration above. Let me tell you what else to expect. The Adler School includes an "Institute on Social Exclusion", whose purpose is to provide employment and training opportunities for disadvantage populations. Now, when I was at Adler, a part time professor that was applying for a full time position was receiving rave reviews from students and colleagues alike. The school offered him the position, and everyone was happy. But, shortly thereafter, the school redacted their offer because they read his application over again and saw that he was a reformed felon. Although he stated to the program director (his immediate supervisor for that position) that he went to prison for 1 year due to a nonviolent crime, she failed to mention it to the hiring committee. When they finally got word of this, they decided that he was not worthy of the job…even though the school itself preaches about its Institute on Social Exclusion whose purpose is to provide jobs for people in this man's situation. What else will you get with Adler? Well, certainly a questionably accredited degree. Recently, it was found that one of their program directors lied about his credentials in order to receive his position. He did not receive the training that was required for his Program Director position. I believe he had a master's degree, and lied and said that he had a doctorate. In any case, the students who were taught under him certainly did not receive the education that they deserved, paid for, expected, or needed for certification. I implore you not to attend Adler. Look elsewhere for better training, a better school, and a better price tag. Additionally, one of the 5 star reviews on this page is by a professor at Adler…so it is probably not reliable. I attended their faculty meet & greet, and didn't get questions i wanted, but did learn a lot about what programs they offer, and got a great tour of their colorful, and unique looking campus. The reason for me not getting a chance to talk to the faculty members that run the programs of my interest, was due to it being a large group of students asking questions. The programs that had my interest were substance abuse treatment, art therapy, and sport and health psychology were pretty crowded, so i said forget it and went with the tour group. Prior to visiting Adler University i didn't these programs even existed at the University. Other programs are clinical psychology; military psychology; child and adolescent psychology; adlerian psychology; traumatic stress psychology; primary care psychology and behavioral medicine; counselor education and supervision; clinical mental health counseling; couple and family therapy; rehabilitation counseling; forensic psychology; and public policy & administration. The campus itself was pretty colorful, and unique with quotes on the walls. For some odd reason the campus makes me think of protons and neutrons due to the colors, and design. Hehe, it's that unique! Campus classes are small with tables in a circle for lectures. Compared to any other campus I've been on it looks very peaceful, and easy to atleast know what everyone that attends the campus looks like; maybe even their names. Not a bad University for someone that wants to take their career in psychology to higher levels. Some advice! Do the research yourself, or make the time to go out and tour the campus yourself. The faculty meet & greet was crowded, and me personally felt more like a number that was invited to their campus. If i would've known that it was going to be that way, i would've not attended. I am giving this University 2 stars. Pros: Adler has some awesome instructors who are really interested in imparting knowledge. If it were for them only — I would give the university five stars. I had a 4.0 GPA there. CONS: PLEASE READ What ever they tell you the cost of your degree will be, double it. I was part time (3 Classes) and my tuition was 19,000 a semester and that didn't include books. Then they have a Social Justice Practicum. This was a 300 hour joke. (Did I mention you get charged for this practicum) For my "SJP" I was cold calling, some people were working at the German Library stacking books others were babysitting. Basically, (even thought they will say it isn't) you are a glorified secretary. It was really a waste of time. I was very upset because social justice is why I chose that school. Then they have the Social Justice Practicum Seminar (which are required) Again another waste of time, all they talked about was white privilege each time. God forbid if you are white, you will become their whipping boy or girl. You will really not feel safe in these forums. In one of these seminars I stood up and said, for god's sake, I may be white, but I am gay with a learning disability, from the middle of Nebraska, I am in a gay marriage with an adopted child. I understand (maybe not totally) what being an underdog is like. I left after one semester, spending almost 19 grand, having to take part in a 300 hour "Social Justice Practicum", so the school could say they stand for social justice. I decided to transfer to a college that walked the Social Justice walk. I did get a 4.0 that semester so I didn't leave for my grades. Honestly, there are other colleges that teach respect and social justice, that will cost far less. I would not recommend Adler University.Jesse Hammond

Our initial appointment and evaluation went well. I was pleased with the staff and the doctor that we saw. We were told to follow up in 6-8 months with Dr. Peter Smith. I have contacted the Erickson Institute as well as Dr. Smith's office and have gotten no where. I am told there are no appointments for any patients. As a patient with a special needs child, I'm not sure what I'm suppose to do. It's extremely frustrating and I'm losing faith. How is my child suppose to get the care he needs when NO ONE or no place, can schedule children with developmental delays? My guess is that none of the physicians and/or upper management are aware of these issues. I truly hope that we can get something resolved. It's not far to my 3 year old who needs to have an appointment.Julie D

Terrible experience. Jean Rounds was assigned as a therapist for our kids and ended up serving my ex-husband instead. Her violations of ethical responsibilities resulted in the court dismissing her as the kids therapist and prohibited her from seeing out kids again. As a non-traditional student, I've been through a few different schools and failed each time. Dominican has been an absolute godsend, and they've done everything in their power to ensure my success, even if it was just something as simple as giving me a call to make sure that all was well. I can't sing praises of the staff enough; the education I've received has been of amazing quality and their Bachelors degree program has given me the skills to succeed in the professional world with an edge. This review pains me to write as this school is my alma mater. I would suggest against hiring interns through Dominican's internship/career development programs as it is poorly supported and their career development department will not follow up with employers. In addition Dominican promised us reimbursements for hiring through their internship program as part of the careernet grant but are yet to deliver. The program was originally applied for on August 7, 2015 and we are yet to hear back from their career development department.Ed Krause

Dominican University is a small campus near Chicago. They have a great Social Work and Library and Information Science programs. The school is very nice and some of the staff are friendly. Place is not good. No help for the freshmen at all. You go there and you are just lost. No one tells you anything. They didn't even tell you you needed to waive the medical insurance if you had one, otherwise it was automatic. Horrible environment as well. The university has a modern and big campus. Famous singers and comedians go to their arena to perform there and it’s for free if you study there! There’s a lot of things there. There’s a bank, Amazon, and a lot of restaurants. We had lunch there. There were a lot of choices to choose from. It was good and two students talked to us about how it is there. I really like this university and I might go there.3b0p

When you buy a pair of shoes at Payless you go there for a reason. You don't have enough money, you really don't care too much about fashion, you're not looking for the most courteous service or the fanciest installations. You NEED shoes and this does the job just fine. St Augustine, since its founding, continues to be a "bridge". Its does the job of exposing students, primarily immigrants in their mid30's and 40's to the US system of higher education. It is not a Harvard not a UIC not even a Northeastern. It does help in putting you thru the ropes, of Financial Aid, Tutoring, Accredited Classes and getting you out the door to CONTINUE your career elsewhere. In my 13 years there as a Student, as an Adjunct Professor and as a Full Time staff of the IT department, I saw many things I liked and many I disliked. But it never let me down as far as its mission. You get in what you put in. I saw student complain about financial aid and not wanting to pay $120 for a math book. But they had no problem driving up in their $1000 rims sporting the latest Smart Phone. Take the time to talk to a single mother, with two jobs trying to make it in school to get a better job and ask her what she thinks. Does she like the fact that she can bring her children and have them taken care of while she attends classes? The better questions might be: "Who" are you and where do YOU fit in to this equation. Perhaps you are a person based on your circumstances and expectations for whom, St Augustine, has not much to offer.Carlos

I am an agriculture engineer graduated from Monterrey tech in Mexico, one of the best private schools in the country. Despite my education background it has been a great challenge to succeed in the US market for multiple reasons. After several attempts and failures on other states I came to chicago. My prayers were answered when I saw saint Augustine across my new home. They welcomed me with open arms, they helped me update and print my resume, use the library and computers and most important they gave me a new hope. The hope that I can succeed as a Mexican immigrant and provide for me and my family. That I have value as a human being and that there is a community of Hispanic immigrants like me to lift me and support me. I am bless to have saint Augustine as my support…my platform to gain strength and launch myself again. I've been in US 25 years and I can say is the first time I found help like the one I am getting. I'm an alumni of this university and I have to say that my educational experience wasn't what I hoped it to be. Although I encountered some great professors there still were some that left a bad taste in my mouth. The campus is actually very nice. I love the progress it has made. I went for a online test and let me tell you worst experience. I'm sorry but this place is ghetto not a good school. I feel like most of the students just go there for a check and back by the looks of it..staff member acted like she knew what she was doing but in reality I knew more about signing in to take the test than her! When they're open they don't answer their phones. They have a voice message that says they're closed even when you call during the time of operation. They're incompetent and lazy. Warning. I work for Loyola and making this review highly suspect. The university has grown in student numbers, numbers of program, student achievement and service to the city of Chicago. What makes Loyola stand out from others is the unapologetic mission of the school. We strive to become a person for others. We believe in strong academics, unwavering integrity and we believe in helping others. When students graduate from Loyola there is an expectation they will remember they are truly privileged people and that they have an obligation to find ways to assist others. It's a Jesuit university, but being Catholic is not a requirement for entrance. In fact more than half of the students attending Loyola are not Catholic. Loyola is the only college basketball team to have won a national championship and that was back in 1963. The program has been dormant for the most part since then. That is until last year when Loyola was the Cinderella team of the NCAA Tournament and the darling of international media thanks in large part to Sister Jean, the teams spiritual leader. A bona fide firecracker, Sister Jean took America, Africa and European media by storm during the tournament. The fairy tale season took the Ramblers to the Final Four where they lost to a very good Michigan team.Ralph Braseth

Great University experience without the college-town vibe. Superb access to public transportation. STAY FAR, FAR AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. I was thinking about going here. I had Les Rayford as my admissions advisor. Once I got accepted, I wanted to know what my financial aid offer was before making a final decision between NLU and Roosevelt University. Both Les and Charles Kalav (financial aid) kept pushing me off amongst the two of them. I would ask one and they’d say ask the other. Finally, Les admitted that I won’t see my financial aid offer until after I registered for classes which for one, is super shady and not common practice. Every person I’ve told this story to said that they every college gives your award letter before. Every other school I applied to, gave me my financial aid award offer. I told him I wouldn’t continue on with the process without knowing my financial aid and responsibility. Life goes on and I choose Roosevelt. And thank god I did!! Les went behind my back and had an academic advisor register me for classes without my consent or knowledge. He didn’t even know my correct program. I found this out after my current school told me they claimed money from the department of education for the classes I was apparently registered for. The person I spoke to in financial aid helped me fix the funds refund issue. But the fact that Les was able to do that without my consent (and that’s illegal to sign someone up for classes without their consent and hold them financially responsible) was never addressed. It’s concerning how nonchalant the financial aid person who helped me fix the issue was. It seems like this is a frequent issue. I was told a supervisor would reach out to me to discuss this matter and they haven’t and it’s been a week in which I followed up once. This is a downright shady business who will steal and lie and fake your identity/consent. I am downright appalled and disgusted with the complete lack of professionalism and integrity that National Louis University has shown me. I will be reporting this institution in a number of different ways. Again, STAY FAR FAR AWAY. If any staff member reads this, have someone actually address this issue.Baylie Monson

This school is extremely expensive. It seems like everything is a struggle. I had many issues w my financial aid, student loans, etc. They took a grant away from previous quarters when I got a loan for the last quarter of school. Took me over a month to get it straightened out and fixed. I had to call my loan company and they had to reach out to NLU. I was told when I started I wojld have enough FAFSA until graduation. That was false. Unless this is literally your only option I do not recommend it. Most of the instructors were great, but I had one that went MIA and it was my first C, the school didn't seem to care. I fought it and months later finally got the opportunity to redo my work for a better grade. The communication w the advisors was terrible. I had one advisor that was able to usually fix things when needed. But she wasn't MY advisor. I think I had 3 or more advisors my 2.5 years there. Seems there is a lot of coming and going with staff. If you talk to ANYONE get their name and department, otherwise it doesn't matter what they told you. Many of my classmates also had issues. Up to the day before graduation and after. By far the best advisor was/is Allison W. & instructor was Cara R.Kalla Mahar

The personnel in this University is wonderful until you get definitely enrolled. They kindly follow up every step for your admission, but once you are in, you will meet the worst advisers working with you. It's like when you go to a car dealer you can find the best salesman so you can buy the lemon, and then later every time you need customer service, you are assisted by the cheapest personnel. I had chosen this university because of the location (they have 5 locations in IL), but they force you to go to Downtown campus for some courses. That's something they will NEVER tell you before you are admitted. Once you signed for $ +20,000 loan, then you need to bear the worst conditions to study, with some not-so-great instructors, office personnel with I-don't-care attitude, technology problems in the classrooms, etc. Their tuition is one of the highest in Illinois, but the quality is one of the cheapest.Enjoy Learning

Only thing good is location and higher education. The school is operated like a high school. Teachers are disrespectful and rude to the respectful students and allow the rude and disrespectful students remain I class. In my first week of attending older black male afro history teacher would legit lock me out of class over five minutes late(mind you I'm working to support myself), But let a female student regularly disrupt class and use vulgar Language towards him. Located in Chicago, this facility offers 2 year programs in a variety of fields. Renamed for Malcom X, one of the most well known & great civil rights advocate, fosters programs that can lead to long term careers & help individuals establish themselves in society. This area is super busy & placement of this college in the area is perfect. On my visit they were actually closed, I understand the college is very busy under normal circumstances.Teneha B

Malcolm X surprised me. The facilities are clean. Most of the staff is professional and supportive and have other resources in place to help you suceed. They also have many career path programs (attesting to medical) to get you trained and in an introductory job. I have a student just beginning classes but we are super excited.Nakia
