Very proud Spartan here. I left my home in NYC to attend NSU back in 1988 at the age of 18. However, I really grew up while attending college. I loved my courses (some harder than others). I loved my professors (some more than others). I loved the beautiful campus, the extra curricular activities (especially the parties) and I loved the friendships I made. The fact this is an HBCU… Well, that is best of all. There is nothing like being nurtured by your own culture. It is a priceless gift. You take it into the world with full understanding that you not only have something to contribute, but it has value no one can take from you. Much love and respect to the faculty and staff, especially the mass communications department (which was the journalism department under Linda Scanlan when I attended). Some student decided to order doordash from Virginia Beach Which was 18 minutes out of my way and then they couldn't even tip. all I got was the base pay from doordash I couldn't even buy a cup of coffee with that. If people are going to order food and have it delivered to them they need to learn how to tip Or you better get something that's close by because you don't order from another city and then you can't even tip. The good thing and what I *really* desire the most about the "Green" and "Gold," is that visitation, even when you are not invited the University allows you to break free and be yourself. Because of this, makes me ought not to approach with such criticism when it is just basic conversation. Norfolk State University during such trying times for us all makes me want to think twice about James Madison University (where my mostly white classmates will cheer me on). Appreciate the love. I AM NOT A STUDENT. IM A TOURIST I toured this beautiful school yesterday. It was absolutely beautiful. To walk around seeing so much scripture. So many things to inspire young minds and hearts to Christ. I did not get a chance to walk around the entire campus but the places I did see were amazing. My tour guide was Robert Vann. He knew a lot of history and important things about the school. He probably knew the mission statement if I asked him. He took us into the Chapel and had so many great things to say about it. He also said, the school was a safe place for Christians. The professors and staff, knew Jesus. Frfr. They encourage a relationship with Christ. He has never been around so many different ethnicities fully in worship together. It reminded him of Heaven. He saw that we are all the same. The school opened the eyes of his heart to so many different beautiful things about ALL of the people of God. I’m not gone lie, I don’t wanna say that I would ever move back to Virginia. And I do not like school. However, after seeing the school, and hearing the Words of Mr. Vann, it makes me want to consider attending Regent. I could not have chosen a better university to finish my education as well continue with. My professors are very understanding and compassionate because we need that today in the world we live in. Even if you aren't a Christian the respect and just humbleness of all my professors and even peers has been extremely outstanding . I am speechless. My professors pray for me and at times that's what I needed the most. The School work had true meaning and purpose. You aren't just going to school just to go to school. All of it has meaning. I am excited to Start my PhD program and finish proudly as a regent Graduate. Trust me I did my undergrad at a major university and I was just a number and did not feel like I got as much out of as much I got out my masters. Also it's affordable!!! The biblical principles and education I received have equipped me to go out and change the world. The Professors care about your well-being just as much as your academic development. My first introduction to yoga over 4 years ago and it still has such a special place in my heart. Shine is a fantastically warm and energetic space. JENergy alone became something I looked forward to every Wednesday to refresh my week! You are welcome to be silly, patient and loving with your body. It is a great studio for beginners and anyone looking to branch into self care !!! They offer special events and energy healing as well. I have found this studio to be such a unique experience to any other in Virginia Beach or even in NYC. I have noticed that as yoga becomes trendy it is treated more as something to check off on your to do list but it lacks the community that can really ground your practice. You are allowed to be as active or passive in the class as you wish at Shine, either way you leave with learning something new. On top of this it is one of the most affordable studios I have yet to visit. And all in all , price aside, Taking classes at Shine is just another way to invest in yourself!Marissa Dooley

Shine Yoga has been such a blessing in my yoga practice. I feel so fortunate to have found a space where everyone from the instructors to the patrons are genuinely friendly. Everyone is so welcoming, and the positivity held within this space is palpable as you enter the studio. The instructors are knowledgeable, and encourage you to make adjustments to make your practice suitable for your own body and needs. After taking classes at Shine Yoga for a month, I have seen a great improvement in my overall well being. Not only in my physical strength, and flexibility, but mentally as well. There is a wonderful sense of calm and accomplishment I feel each time I leave this studio. I am a "newbie" to yoga and just recently started with Shine Yoga's introductory class! I LOVE it! I am in my 50's and have really felt the effect of my years lately. I have bad knees and never thought I would be able to do yoga! Boy was I wrong! They have taught me so much and I am seeing tremendous improvements in my entire body! My knees ACTUALLY FEEL BETTER THAN EVER! I love how they make the classes perfect for any level! There are some really skilled yoga students and beginners like me in all of the classes. I don't feel intimidated and in fact, it is so encouraging to see so many levels working together in one class! If you are interested in learning yoga, check out one of Shine's Intro Classes. would give zero stars if possible. They lost my wife's application for the nursing program after they conveniently got all our money for the pre classes. First they blamed my wife for not putting in her application, but then realized they misplaced it and their response was, "better luck next year." Another student in the class was denied for the nursing program after South university realized she was missing a pre req class that they forgot to put into her degree program! Their first priority is collecting your money. Its not a big deal to them if they screw up your program and you have to wait anther year to apply.Brandon Smith

I am currently a student here and if I could I would give it zero stars. The only reason why I am staying is because my teachers that I had on campus so far are fantastic. The admin side of this school is HORRIBLE! The lack of communication in the front office from registering for classes down to financial aid is a joke. If they worked on their communication skills and take responsibility for their mistakes and own up to it, then the school would be so much better until then I would not recommend this school.Tiffany Sealy

When I first did chemo, I was scared. They made everything better. All of them treat me like a person and not a number. My Dr. faxed a referral, no response from Va Oncology. I called and left message, no response. I called again they said to fax it again and I would hear. Sent fax and still did not hear. Now on my 5th phone call, been on hold for 10 minutes. Poorly managed. Wish there was another good group in Va Bch. Update: Now that I connected with VOA everything is perfect. Came early for my appt. Wasn't seen for 2hours! !nobody came into my room, it wasn't crowded but others were seen before me. Didn't get my infusion of to see a doctor. They take long each time very unprofessional!!DO NOT GO HERE. I walked out I will never step foot in here. Dr. Ortiz and her staff are so wonderful—I cannot say enough good about them! I suffer from a rare condition and when my prior lifelong physician retired, it was stressful and overwhelming to have to find someone new willing to take over my care. Dr. Ortiz has not only taken me on, but has gone above and beyond to familiarize herself with my unique needs, and to accommodate them. At my first office visit, even her nurse Megan had spent her lunch break reading up on/asking questions about my condition so that she could better provide care for me. She told me that their philosophy is patient-centric and that patients come first; this has been apparent in every interaction I’ve had with every staff member in this practice. Dr. Ortiz has taken time to know when I was coming in for treatment (when I was not scheduled for an office visit with her) and made time during her busy schedule to come in and go over some labs that concerned her; after she left the room, I thought of more questions and her nurse went and pulled her out of a meeting with their office manager so that I could further consult the doctor. These people truly care about their patients in a way that is almost unheard of in today’s medical facilities. Dr. Ortiz is an absolute godsend!Caroline Thrasher

I have always had a good experience with tpmg, I go to this new office for my allergy shots. Dr ortiz and the girl that gave me the shot, the one with the dark hair that I saw today are good in their field and easy to communicate with. Took a tour of the massage school. Enjoyed the presentation and people who guided our tour. My first visit to the school. My family is familiar with the Spa and Visitor center. So much to love about this health center! Visited twice in a 2 week span and I had a consistent experience. Massage and chiropractic experience was very relaxing and helped with some upper back pain that I had been experiencing. The front desk was very helpful. If you like yoga or meditation or similar you will enjoy visiting this slice of history. This is a fabulous center for alternative metaphysical history and wellness. The architecture and grounds are worth it alone. The gift shop has a great assortment of singing bowls, crystals, oils and fun items and books. I am entering my second year here after transferring from community college and have enjoyed my experience so far. All the professors I have had so far have been good and care about their students and what they are teaching. There are places on campus where you can get help outside of class which can be really helpful. The food can be hit or miss but it is generally good. There are a bunch of clubs and activates on and around campus which provides a chance to take a break from your studies. All in all I will be proud to be a graduate of ODU!Nick Riedel (trainboy45)

ODU is awesome. The school has been totally updated since we graduated in 1996. There are tons more class buildings and the football stadium has expanded. There are even new regular dorms and apartment style apartments. The university now has its own police force which adds to the safety of the entire university! I love all the changes that have been made over all there games. My husband and I are very pround to be ODU Alumni! Go Monarchs!! Nice campus went to football game Virginia Tech versus ODU thought some of the students were rude w they're slurs and cursing once they got start drinking I think it was a little bit over the top would have appreciated if at the game they would at least had shuttles or shuttle bus for guest to get back and forth from the stadium to their cars so far one of the rudest colleges and I'm talking like some of the students that I've been to other than that nice campus.😎Lillian Granison

This school has a lot of false advertisement.. I have not met one staff member with a positive or helpful attitude, with the exceptions of the counselors. A huge scam is the food. They say that there’s so many options with food but half of the places that are advertised to eat are closed down. Advisors are not attentive to students. A lot of the freshman dorms look like psych wards or jails, which is uncomfortable, and they have little space. On each floor there is 1 small microwave and 1 mini fridge that you share with the entire floor, which would be around 30+ people, and then they do not allow you to have those appliances in your room. They also do not let freshman-sophomores have vehicles on campus, however with that they also do not provide daily transportation. So if you do not have money for constant ubers/cabs during the week you will most likely not be getting anywhere except for fri-sat. The wifi reception is so bad that some people have to walk almost off campus to get work done, hopefully you have a hotspot. These issues are complained about but nothing is done. They will hardly pick up the phone, and when they do they are dismissive. I have so many complaints and not much positives to say. I mean the outside is pretty. Take what they advertise with a grain of salt. Do your research first, find some support groups to talk to people who actually have experience here and see if this school is the right fit for you before they take your money.Tim Kring

+JMJ It is my hope that Google Maps' staff will allow me to post here a review and photos for a Retreat House that I have visited several times when Retreats (silent) were scheduled by the Richmond Diocese. I have no affiliation with this university which I recently learned purchased the former retreat center called Holy Family Retreat House. I am submitting this review only to share photos of a truly, spiritually enriching retreat house. And, to bring emotional closure for a retreat center which holds memories of heartfelt and tender remembrances.The retreat center was once operated by a men's religious order, The Redemptorists, for nearly 52 years. I visited the "abandoned" property quite a few times before I left VA for AZ in 2013. I had even tried to generate interest in former Retreatants and faithful Catholics of the Diocese and elsewhere to promote restoration of the retreat center by the Redemptorists. Well, what is is! This university’s website falsely advertises programs that they don’t offer. If you do decide to look into this school get EVERYTHING in writing with their staff and create a paper trail of what they “offer” before they take your money and ignore your inquiries about getting what you pay for. My brother was interested in this school’s arts program that’s featured on their site and I’m glad we saved our time and money since they don’t have it and carelessly left it up misleading potential applicants. I could eat her hopes Clinic they prescribed medications one of which was stolen in a burglary of my houses for blood pressure medicine and I've been trying to get it they've told me they call it in to the pharmacy and they told other I went there they told me they were called in and if they did they call the wrong medicine are these people rho they are accountable to no one I can't even call and talk to my doctor there I would not recommend this college did anybody I think they practice bow practice Thursday to actual practice and I can't even file a complaint with anybody I guess there's nobody you can complain to in the EVMS thing I've called to try to talk to somebody I can talk to my doctorTimothy Collins

Although I have not had very many appts at this office, I am adding how I appreciate the medical assistants…who are always very pleasant and helpful. I cannot remember names much, but I was there today for blood work and "Calethia" was very patient and pleasant with me. She also made sure any questions I had were answered before I left. How can anyone trust a medical school that employs professors that lack any sort of professionalism. Psychiatric professors that thinks he can diagnose people based off their acting? Without a single face to face sit down? That they can see a persons processing speed? Poor upkeep. Over priced. Slum living quarters Look at ODU as an alternative. Although housing can be iffy there too. A third of the price and it’s a real campus. Not a good experience. Not enough housing, put kids in the shady hotels nearby. I hate to bash a local school but trust me, don’t send your kids there.building new apts across street but are not for students. Courses are mediocre, for the price should be outstanding. Even with any scholarship you “think” you are getting. Sports are used to entice more students. I loved it. As an adult student returning to finish my degree this was the perfect place for me. Smaller classes, nice campus, professors were all wonderful. It was exactly what I needed. I finished my degree, found a decent job, no issues at all. I would highly recommend it. I have heard that the on campus housing can be rough and some of the dorms are older but I lived off campus so this was never an issue for me. NOTE- I am a veteran and used my GI Bill. I met several other students who were ex military doing the same. So obviously it is a vet friendly school which is great.Joshua Shuman

DO NOT GO TO THIS SCHOOL!!!! If you are an athlete DON'T DO IT. This is an unexciting, dreary campus. Dorms are lack luster, smelly, dirty, and need a cosmetic makeover. You will feel like you're living in the garage. Mold and reaches. BUGS IN SHOWERS on shower curtains! THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM IN THE ROSE HALL DORMS. Just got a call for the nursing program. Midway conversation when I showed little interest after speaking more about the program, the advisor or recruiter hung the phone up while I was speaking. Just another one of the schools that seem money hungry and don't care about the students. Called back and the other lady on the phone seemed disinterested as well and said maybe it was a 'glitch'. I went in for placement for the nursing program. The people were very unprofessional. I was talked down to with no encouragement. I also asked for a comelette copy of my scores..I got the run around from the admissions person mandi. Then the president was un aware of the assessment process go figure. Note that this mini golf is located inside Virginia Beach Motor world. This review is for mini golf only and does not include the rest of Motor World. The two courses offered were two of the most unique and challenging courses I have ever played. There are a lot of hills, drops, and longer holes than anywhere else I have played. It is a fun course, but I think younger children may have difficulty. The 13 year old and I both had a good time. The decor is fun and gives some places for shade on a sunny day. There are several unique areas within each course and both courses offer their own challenges. The only reason I’m giving four stars is that some of the holes were not well maintained with some warn areas, dirty areas that hadn’t been cleaned in a long time, and some overgrown trees/landscaping. It didn’t deter from the fun or change the uniqueness of the courses, but a few small refreshers on the worn or broken areas would be nice. Note: There are a lot of uneven areas and stairs on the course, so I wouldn’t recommend it for the elderly or anyone with mobility issues.Nathan Rice

We went today (July 2022) and we had to stop playing at hole 14. Why? Because I stepped in a pile of FIRE ANTS and my whole ankle was bitten. We dropped everything and ran down from the top of the course, and as we ran we noticed more and more swarms of red fire ants scattered around the path. Nothing was really done about this when we told the lady at the front. She gave a quick "Oh, I'm sorry," called someone on the walkie and that was it. She didnt even ask if I was alright. The course itself is okay. Most of the holes are easy, maybe too easy at just par 2.Rfran969

Some holes are in rough shape and other holes are next to impossible to even make a realistic score. Our whole crew got max strokes on 2 holes. And the prices have gone way up. $75 for a group of 5 to play! Eeek! No matter where you hit or how skilled you are every ball gathers to the same spot. See photo. A few holes the ball gets stuck in the pvc pipe because of eroding rocks around it. Poorly maintained and overpriced. Could be way better with some minor improvements.Tim Leffel

Used to work here for 6 years, they treat their employees very badly. When I first started everything was great, it went down hill fast. If you are reading this and are a member make sure the staff is being treated well. Managers here are not very responsive or understanding to personal issues or health. Beautiful golf course and yacht club. Visited with my daughter's swim team earlier this summer for a swim meet. The staff from the club provided the food for the occasion which was delicious. Great neighborhood as well.Rick A

People may have issues or other circumstances that make it a disappointment for them. However they are a very useful and needed requirement inside this community. The cost of living is to high for a place I don't think is great at all. Jobs here pay to low and a lot of families are struggling to survive here. They provide a service that is helpful especially when your at the bottom in your most difficult time. I am grateful for this service as it is the only reason i am surviving right now. I don't understand how this place is ran…clearly not by competent individuals. On hold for 30 mins just to be transferred to a voicemail service of someone who couldn't clearly state their name. I don't have a lot of time in my day between work and my children and spending HOURS on the phone to have none of my questions answered leaves people frustrated, and then y'all wonder why people are disgruntled when someone finally stops digging in their nose to answer the phone.Shontwanette Williams

Deny emergency mental health care, hung up on and completely blew off my family member after calling the mental health emergency services line, founded complaints of which they retaliate against you for. Paper pushing bureaucracy, beyond incompetent, is the worst city in Hampton Roads for mental health care. They work harder to not get you any services. My son is in their summer camp at the Windsor woods location, but at the end of this week he won't be going back nor will he return if that is the location again next year unless they get rid of the staff. They have called my wife so many times over stupid things for example a couple days ago they called her and said you didn't bring your son's lunch. Which she knew she did but she left work drove home looking for his book bag didn't find it, so went there and guess what it was sitting there with the rest. When she said something to the teacher she said well he said you didn't so we didn't look even though before leaving work she asked them if they looked and they said yes and it's not here. Then today she picks him up and they're like oh your son fell today and got a scratch but we didn't have a bandaid. When I moved to VB in 2007, I was amazed at how many public and neighborhood parks the city maintained. This sentiment is echoed by many of my fellow transplant friends. I've recently become a member of the Kempsville Rec Center (only took me 12 years) and was blown away at the value I got for just over $10 per month as a resident. While I wish there were more swim lanes at this location, seeing all the kids enjoying the play area makes it worth it. Growing up in New England, you had to drive hours to get to a water park that offered those type of amenities. My personal trainer, Ardelia, is outstanding. My child is in the parks and rec after school program. I forgot to pay and they did not call to notify me – but instead, told my child that she could not play with others, and made my child sit in the office until I came to come get her. My daughter has had NUMEROUS issues with the staff, but the treatment today takes the cake! This could have been rectified with a simple payment! While it is a cheaper rate than most after school programs, they does not mean the quality should be cheapened too. Then when I went to go and pay for the program, they added on 30 extra dollars to the regular price. Not impressed at all!!Faatimah Lovell
