One of the most beautiful 👩‍🎓college campuses in the southeast United States. Nestled just northeast of downtown Winston-Salem, best campus has tons of greenery, open fields and green space to lounge or play sports, has a nature trail with access to Reynolda Village with shops and eateries, and a supreme education as well. Wingate has a very personable and helpful staff many of whom have been there a long time it seems . Admissions staff was first rate. But once your student is enrolled, as a parent, you will need to be persistent to stay informed so you can help your student succeed. Wingate's technology is antiquated. Difficult to do any business online as a parent. The school is paper intensive and sometimes the paper seems to fall through cracks. Wingate only recently came up with a way for tuition to be paid online. There is no parent portal yet that allows you to stay up to date with what is due when. Bills are mailed and the expectation is you mail checks or pay on site. If they have a payment plan, they do not advertise it. Most pertinent information goes through the student portal that the parent has no access to. This creates opportunities for miscommunication and missed deadlines. The school is under-staffed. If you have to phone someone to ask for help or clarification, expect to get voicemail that states you will hear back in a couple of days at least. Email is a better option but don't expect a same-day reply. Communication is not a strength here. During this last and very widespread flu season, the campus had a very big outbreak but no classes were cancelled and parents never received any communication regarding making certain your student had a flu shot. Overall, I would say the school has its heart in the right place and most professors are engaged and want to see the students succeed. Still, the school has a ways to go in developing the kind of infrastructure that justifies its tuition costs. Wingate rightly has a reputation as a collegiate Sparta, roughly one in every four students is some sort of athlete. Not necessarily a bad thing but if your student is not going to be playing a sport or chooses to leave a sport once there, be aware of what other options they have on campus to stay engaged. The student transfer rate accelerates at year two. If campus surroundings are a consideration, know that Wingate is an exceedingly small town so that the campus is basically all there is. The neighboring town of Monroe is slightly bigger with more ammenities: small mall, Walmart and fast food options. Charlotte is a short drive beyond that. Uber is not allowed on campus, we were told. So your student needs a car or friends with wheels if he or she is going to leave campus or fly out of Douglas International. Overall, Wingate has been a good experience for our student despite a bit of heavy lifting for the parents. Having proper expectations is important when choosing a college. Been here for three years and all Wingate has done is raise the price of tuition while subsequently taking away things on campus. For one, they have limited our meal exchanges for Chick-Fil-A and Freshens to only two and three exchanges per week. The caf is unlimited, but they close at 8 p.m. and have limited food options. Wingate is also planning on charging us to keep our cars on campus while raising tuition at the same time. My question is why? No one asked for the DPC to be upgraded (and it was supposed to be done in January…) so why should we have to pay for it? The freshman dorms are in serious need of upgrading and the upperclassmen apartments are manageable but not worth the money, in my opinion. Honestly, the only reason I still attend Wingate is for the music department, and that’s why I gave this review 2 stars instead of 1. There is absolutely no reason that our tuition should be raised each year, that’s ridiculous and it actually causes many athletes and other students who attend Wingate on full scholarships to have to drop out. Private colleges are supposed to be essentially all-inclusive since that’s what the high tuition prices are for, but Wingate is definitely not all-inclusive and constantly cheats us out of our money.Lauren Whitley

Wingate University holds a special place in my heart as this is where I started my college education. I ended up transferring to complete my Nursing degree (at the time Wingate did not offer Nursing degrees) Even so, my faculty advisors and mentors steered me towards my strengths, leading me to a rewarding career in Nursing. Avoid this college at all costs!!! While they state they are a “Christian College” the truth is they are anything but a Christian College. The morals held by some of the administration and staff are deplorable at best. The policies set forth by this college are not at all followed by the staff or administration! The facilities are subpar having poorly maintained dorm rooms, a weight room for athletes that is laughable. Although they recruit for athletes they have no actual practice fields owned by the school for baseball, softball, or soccer. This college is not worth what they are charging for tuition as most of their classes do not transfer. Finally, the area in which this school is located is not at all safe. When we visited our child we had a drunk man wander up to our car which was parked right in front of the dorms asking for money. There are some great folks in the seminary, but the rest of the faculty has been mostly gutted and replaced with faculty with little/no teaching experience and a disconnect from the university's old mission of training Christian leaders. The way the current administration treated its faculty and staff over the last couple of years has been disgraceful. What made this school special and unique has been replaced with a business/money-making emphasis. If you want a Christian college, you need to find another (try SEBTS in NC or NGS in SC). If you want to study business or law enforcement or whatever other programs they're quickly trying to create, then go elsewhere and get it cheaper and regionally accredited.James Dandy

I absolutely despise this school. When talking to staff I felt that it would be a good fit. I had only a couple good teachers who were there to actually TEACH me and HELP me through my classes. If I asked questions or didn't understand an assignment teachers made me feel stupid which made it hard to get assignments done correctly. This is not a "Christian" school. Annoying town to live in. Southern hospitality doesnt exist in Boone. Its full of stuck up hippies. Counting down the days till I transfer to Colorado. If you're transferring here, good luck. My girlfriend has been petitioning classes that they haven't counted since she first got here. They're screwing her out of 27 credit hours that she finished at her old school. Math department is atrocious. I'm in college algebra now and the teacher lost my first test because she took priority in grading a 2 page paper on success before she graded the test. Also, if you're coming here to watch football, the atmosphere sucks. More than half of the crowd is out of the stadium before halftime. Hardly anyone actually cares about the team, they just use it as an excuse to tailgate and get trashed in a public parking lot.Chris King

Was a very good experience. Best was the faculty, who are from all over the country and internationally as well. I attended another college for a second degree after ASU and had a bad experience which really highlighted how superior ASU's instruction and advice really was. They do not waste your time. If there was a downside, it was probably the fact that many of the students are from western North Carolina, so some of the perspectives were a bit of a culture shock for me. They have several excellent programs, particularly business, music, education, art, as well as some unusual programs like communications disorders.JW41926

Attending this school has been the worst experience that I have EVER had! From advisor who do not know what they are doing to transcript office personal that have very bad attitudes and are extremely rude. They also "conveniently" forget to post important dates that student need to know. After finally graduating from this school a year late, I will NEVER encourage anyone to attend this school. But, I would encourage everyone who currently attends this school to get out while they are ahead! Lovely campus, with almost 9000 acres! Huge trees and grand lawns frame Gothic architecture which themselves house state-of-the-art labs and lecture halls. Duke's research grants are famous for being generous, even for undergraduate students. Keep in mind, though, that the admissions rate is very very low, so you probably won't get in.Ameya Majmudar

Let's be honest, there are good things and bad things to this school. While the department the major I have is very small and thus more personal with you, especially with advising, the bigger departments like business are very impersonal with you, and hold rather strict barrings on until you complete the, to be honest, useless general education the college forces on you, though that is the case anywhere in America. It is almost arrogant in how they dismiss the ideas and opinions of the students in favor of their own. They are also known for their excessive penny pinching. With the prices on campus being outrageous, they also hold strict rulings for housing and parking, giving you hefty bills if you mess up on even the slightest infraction. Overall, the grand and upcoming productions they are doing with the school, such as the football field and new dorms and buildings, do not help the general student population much. Now, with this said, there are good things to this place. For one, in smaller departments, you get a generally more personal and kinder attention to you and your college career. With my department at least, as long as you show the ability, they help you get the classes you want and need. Also, at least on campus, school spirit runs deep with the green and gold. There are more than enough events to bolster this said school patriotism, and can eventually come to rival other schools. Also, while some professors have a tendency to stuff beliefs down the student's throats, others can be thought inspiring, and can be interesting and even fun to go to classes sometimes. However, the lousy administration still lingers over these benefits, and hampers the overall quality of the school. If they fixed that problem, they would be a good school. However, with that said problem, I can only recommend it, as a current student, as a mediocre to slightly above average at best school to prospective students. To them, I would look at your options and see if you want to come here. I do not regret the choice of coming to this school, but I cannot ignore its blatant and crippling flaws.Drunk Farmer

If you have a lot of money, or you're a research student or engineer, you probably won't have a problem with this school. The school looks very nice on the outside, but as a student, I hated it. The dorms were god awful. Their elevators did not work on the first day of move in. At one point they did not have enough rooms in the highrises for the students, and had to house students in the commons rooms and blackout the windows. The Cafeteria food was always questionable. Cold and pretty unimaginative. Facilities and services always closed down early. There was hardly anything open on the weekends. Not to mention there is barely any means of going anywhere outside of campus if you don't have a car. Speaking of cars, parking services is ridiculous and incompetent. They wrote me up even when I had my parking tag right on the windshield, positioned properly where it was supposed to be, and another time I got a ticket after the semester had ended! This school just looks for ways to nickel and dime students. They're department chairs and coordinators are a bunch of fools who can't manage their jobs. And when they make mistakes, you are the one who will probably end up paying for it.Eric Williams

I went to UNCC back in the mid to late 90s. All I can say is if I had a time machine, I'd love to go back. I met several life-long friends that I continue to hang out with to this day. It's amazing how much the campus has changed over the years. The last time I was there (for the first football game) I almost got lost. I received a fine arts degree and have made a career out of digital printing and design. According to other reviews, people still like to go home on the weekends. That was also the case when I attended, but for the brave that stay around the school during the weekend, more power to you. That's where the fun is really at. Also, I'm hearing that students aren't attending the football games and the ones that are, tend to leave early. All I have to say to that is, just be glad you have a football team. We were so sports deprived back in the day, we would go to all the basketball and baseball games. Good times!Chad Milburn

So our 4 month old English bulldog was in for a serious heart condition and upon referral to NC State from out local vet office we began trips and treatment with NC state ER for his heart valve restriction. They quickly realized how serious the condition his heart was in and informed us that the only chance at life for him was heart surgery. They set a date for surgery over a month out 3 days before his scheduled surgery his abdomen was so swollen from fluid in his stomach and lungs that they had us bring him in early to drain the fluid so he could breathe and have a chance to make it to the surgery date. He did make it to surgery and we meet several times with discussions about the surgery and his chances with and without the surgery. The surgery initially was successful and they requested him to return for a follow up and changed his medications due to his heart conditioning worsening. Tonight his abdomen is severely swollen even with the change in his prescriptions and we have called multiple times and when speaking to the receptionists at NC State (who act like you are a burden for asking them to answer the phone and treat you like a 3rd rate citizen and talked down to my wife trying to get her off the phone) they informed us they would not see him or provide any assistance for him at this time. This after spending over $8,000 this week alone with NC State. The cardiology department has been great with they care and attention, however the ER DEPARTMENT on the other hand if I could give them minus 5 stars for this review I would. I will be seeking legal recourse for their lack of care and compassion after they received their $$ they could not seem to care less if our beloved puppy lived or dies. This is absolutely ridiculous and insulting. When it comes to life or death you don’t turn the other way and say oh well. You need to try to triage and make an attempt in an emergency situation when you are a medical professional. I would love someone from bc state to contact me in regards to this situation.ben hoggard

Once your pet actually receives care, it is very good. Actually getting someone to help you is another story. Our dog needed spinal surgery and was losing use of his back legs. They sent him home from the ER multiple times before finally listening to our pleading to do something to help him. They finally relented and performed the surgery and he has made a full recovery (5 stars for that). However, the customer service was terrible. The "doctors" talk down to you and make you feel like you are bothering them by asking questions about your pet's condition, billing screwed up our invoice multiple times, and people answering the phones seemed annoyed to try to help you. If your pet is in their care, don't even bother trying to call for an update on their condition. You will get a generic response and be told you can't speak with anyone that is actually helping with your pet.JJ

First off we had been trying to get our lab seen for over a month for an eye injury but was told it wasn't urgent. When we arrived the lady at the front desk was very unwelcoming as if she cared less we were there. Once seen by Dr. Smith ( only know her name because of the prescription as she never introduced herself) she was more concerned with us wearing a mask than us being able to understand what she was saying but she did manage to let us know that due to the extensive time of inflammation in the eye my lab would be permanently blind like it was our fault, then tried to cover her tracks by saying we don't know if sooner treatment would have changed the outcome. On a side note the student Abby Cox was awesome and showed so much care, concern and interest. Too bad the Dr. made it such a bad experience I am already not looking forward to the follow up in 2 months.Derek Spencer

Apparently a Top 20 school. But beware of this place: -no letters of recommendation from faculty unless it’s your advisor -no fellowship advising and poor career services-forget it if you want a Fulbright or some other award -cost cutting with tons of adjuncts teaching electives -grad assistantships with no tuition support -office hours “by appointment” -grade inflation All in all it is a good school but to call it top 20 would be an overstep. Faculty seem to be invested in research not teaching or student relationships. It was great! We got to learn how to be healthy (this field trip happened in 4th grade, aka a year ago) and we got to go inside the giant head in the middle to learn about the brain. The part where we had to learn about what healthy foods we can eat and what bad foods can ruin your body systems and etc, it encouraged me to try a baked potato. Now I have it on one of my favorite foods! Thank you for opening such a wonderful center to learn and go to. On Monday (December 18, 2017) I will have to go there for another field trip to learn about puberty. I would love to go there again!Chelonii

SUCH A FUN, CREATIVE PLACE! They have a super cool outdoor playground area with lots of fun things for kids of all ages to play on! There’s a fence maze, a new modern playground structure, a custom-made play structure that you climb up to get onto, then there are two HUGE red tube slides to slide down on! I came here as a chaperone on a field trip and I was blown away. The work they do here is incredible and the way they communicate such important things to children is really well done. Both teachers of the classes we went to were gifted with kids, extremely engaging and I could tell the kids got so much out of the whole experience. would give zero stars if possible. They lost my wife's application for the nursing program after they conveniently got all our money for the pre classes. First they blamed my wife for not putting in her application, but then realized they misplaced it and their response was, "better luck next year." Another student in the class was denied for the nursing program after South university realized she was missing a pre req class that they forgot to put into her degree program! Their first priority is collecting your money. Its not a big deal to them if they screw up your program and you have to wait anther year to apply.Brandon Smith

I am currently a student here and if I could I would give it zero stars. The only reason why I am staying is because my teachers that I had on campus so far are fantastic. The admin side of this school is HORRIBLE! The lack of communication in the front office from registering for classes down to financial aid is a joke. Our kids were fortunate to have gone to Goddard before entering a private school in Raleigh. They were prepared to a level that placed them well into the next higher grade then they were entering into. I have no doubt or question about the fact that The Goddard School will help any student to prepare for the next level of education and be ahead of other students their age. We also believe that Goddard school goes above and beyond to host activities and events that allow parents and students to interact outside of the normal school hours. This was beneficial to hear and understand what other parents were having a tough time with at home and trying to raise their kids. I commend the Goddard school for their intentionality and helping both students and parents to be better in the community. The one negative post on this site caused me to really struggle in deciding whether or not this Goddard School would meet my expectations especially after being in a Goddard School in a different state. I met with the owners, administrators and teachers and was upfront about my concerns. Sufficed to say they were candid in addressing them and we enrolled our child here. I am relieved to report that we made a fantastic decision and our child has literally continued to thrive. The care they show the kids, the curriculum they follow, the way they get to know parents…. and so much more (especially parents night out once a month)… has been validating. My son attended this school until I was greeted by a state investigator who had received a report from a teacher that my son was dragged across the floor by his hair. The owner and manager admitted to knowing of these allegations for weeks. Because the employee would not admit to the wrongdoing, it could not be substantiated; however, we had been informed a few weeks before that my son was hit with a book by an angry instructor, and this incident WAS confirmed by the accused staff member. This school covered up allegations of abuse and later found a reason to terminate the older woman who reported the incidents she witnessed. Please avoid.Todd Mozingo

Pretty much what you would expect from your local ace hardware store. Smaller obviously than Home Depot or Lowe's, but still a nice selection of tools for the most part – and of course, a pretty decently stocked hardware/fasteners aisle. Ace isn't always the first place I go when in need, but certainly not the least either. I've gotten some really nice stuff here over the years, too, that for whatever reason I couldn't find an equivalent substitute at HD or Lowe's. Friendly staff, super clean store. It's very big. So big I expected to find hooks that slide into the siding of the house to hang outdoor décor. Staff said they only have those clips around Christmas time. I like to hang décor in the yard all year round. Maybe get those clips in, there was plenty of peg room in the aisle for its inventory. I went back for shipping tape and there was every kind of tape you can imagine. I don't go to school here. But I will say with all the money running through this school, the school is more worried about replacing perfectly good buildings with a different just as good building. Why? They have to spend their budget or the government doesn't give them as much next time. But they aren't building dorms to make sure all their students have housing. My friend had to live out of his car senior year. NC State prefers out of state and out of country students because they pay a higher rate than in-state tuition.V M

Everything from my degree to my sorority all created memorable experiences. My degree has served me well, and met people from diverse backgrounds with different interests. Loved every minute spent at the Thompson Theatre, and running on the indoor track at the gym. Lots of options for on-campus and off-campus dining options. My sister has been at the school since 1:30pm trying to move in but has been standing in line and is still in line at 6:17 pm for to get rapid testing! Very disorganized and inconsiderate of people’s time. How hard it is to have multiple testing centers when an abundance of students are moving in. I came here for a COVID-19 vaccine. The staff was welcoming and the event was very organized. I appreciated the signage and easy parking. Nursing students administered the vaccine. I am currently a Senoir at Appalachian State University but I am applying to graduate school at Lenoir-Rhyne University. I attempted to transfer to LR during my second year at ASU but,unfortunately, I was not able to transfer. ASU is a big school where there are tons of people but most are strangers. Professors never remember you because they have 200 to 300 students everyday, so I cannot blame them. However, I enjoyed LR's campus, representatives and atmospher so much that I knew I wanted to somehow attend. Now that I am about to graduate from ASU, I want to further my studies in a Master's of Business Administration program. Luckily, LR has one! Man was I happy; I get a top notch business degree and get to attend a great university in the process. I cannot wait to start the MBA program this fall because they are so friendly and knowledgeable. Basically, if you're deciding between LR and other southern colleges, remember this; If you want lots of friends that you know well, go to LR, but if you want a few friends among a crowd of tens of thousands, then go to a larger school like ASU.Logan Shook

ECU is excellent. It was some of the best years of my life. It's viewed as a reputable and accredited university in the eyes employers for any job interview I've had since college. The professors care about the educational quality they provide. They were very well prepared for their lectures and made sure every student got something out of their class. I've got my 6 year old already talking about going there. ECU is a leader. When I was there, ECU made various initiatives to better the eastern NC region. ECU took off with online classes more than any university in the state to cater people whose life commitments made it difficult to be full time on-campus students. The Brody School of Medicine, in conjunction with the hospital would treat uninsured patients throughout the area without a guarantee they'd be paid for it anytime soon or at all on some cases. ECU broke ground with a dental school to address the shortage of dentists in the region. The Princeton Review's yearly annual report on who they decide to rank as the best and worst colleges does not consider selfless efforts and initiatives like these that truly make the world a better place. ECU is diverse. I went through a major change, which put me on track for a 4.5 year graduation. Then I ended up working a lot in a demanding job my last year so I took class part time that year stretching it into 5 years. Throughout this time, I got involved in various groups and organizations. There's something there for everybody. Sure there's the partying crowd that everybody talks about for those who choose to take that path. Every university I've had friends at and visited I observed that. There are also just as many bookworms who would cringe over a B on their college transcript. School spirit thrives at ECU and that is where all groups of people are out on the tailgating field together sporting purple and gold together. I highly recommend this institution to anyone who is looking for a solid education and enjoyable college experience. Memories there will last a lifetime. My first year of college in 4th floor Jones Hall I'll never forget. I encourage students to make the most of it while they are there and don't take your college years for granted because once they're gone, they're gone. You're only in college once.Nick Henne

ECU (East Carolina University) is one of the best University in United States. Professors are great, experienced, friendly and more realistic in terms of teaching real-world scenarios. Professors, Graduate Admin office folks and Chair person are always available and willing to help students for providing guidance that they need. Professors have PhD, and many of them have dual degrees. I was very much impressed and surprised the way they teach students using real-world technological examples. Assigning any software development, computer science engineering or computer networking projects as a group helps a lot. It helps students to interact each other and gain more experience from each other. Professors are even available after classes and ready to spend 1:1 time with students. I can't wait to see this University to be named Number #1 in the United States. Students are very talented and realistic. Talented, hard-working, and ambitious people. Great people to work with! Honestly, the school doesn't much care for their students. With buildings that have AC leaking and making students ill they didn't do anything except say you are on a list, we will get to it- sorry you are sleeping in a study room, and cockroaches and so forth in that building as well- they have been here since the day we moved in. The students are nice to each other and have clubs that are great- but when the school doesn't care you are living in a building that is nasty and wasn't ever cleaned before you moved in. A few weeks ago, a girl woke up with a roach on her face. It's disgusting. Take care of your students ECU, we don't pay thousands of dollars to have bugs and mold in our rooms, and a single properly working shower for an entire floor.sage arguello

The WORSE university ever!!! I mean first of all, whoever heard of campbell?? They are not even recognized school in any field and they have really questionable employees. What kind of university only have 1 staff member for the registration office that doesn't not know how to ship a mail or have knowledge that once payment has been made they must provide the receipt to the client? How can you say you send it over night and turn around and say " oh, I have only myself to work in campbell registration office. So I made it mistake. Well you should've requested earlier in case like this". Absolute, no sense of taking the ownership of their mistake. THEY ARE COSTA LIARS!! I ever regret wasting my precious money and time of the this terrible organization. Especially, if you are service member, you should pick a better school then a school that has no room to consider your limited times. I will say, Mrs. Susan, in registration office, you are THE worse employer that I ever experienced compared to the other university. University of Houston, central Texas community, university of Texas Austin… etc, compare to their quality of service, you made your school like a joke, unorganized and completely unstructured. I don't even know how did you end up in that job? For the better image and quality of the university, maybe some who is little bit more proficient should take over job. I mean, how hard is to send out some mails and answer all the calls in such rude manner?Chris Hwang

I would NOT go to this school if you are a minority. Do not let the reviews fool you and I've met several minority parents , who after they child was admitted, also experienced the blatant racism here. Especially in the pharmacy program. They will admit some to fill quota but do not count on them treating you fairly. I wish I had someone to warn me but I will definitely warn others. The county that this school is in only a few years ago displayed a sign that said " You are now entering Klan Country". So the "good ol boys" are present in the faculty and staff all the way up to the President. Also look up their "Mule day" that is held every year… it is not exactly race friendly and I have had a teacher himself to tell me not to be seen there. If you do not believe this review.. sure go ahead and attend, and pray fully you will not encounter the racism …but if you do… you were warned.KieMarie T

Worst school ever! Do not let me repeat do not send your child here! My daughter was hit by another teammate and NOTHING was done about it! They wanted to tell me that they are taking care of it.The students consequence was that she would miss a track meet! The head track coach was very unprofessional! I had previously reported situations that had occurred and nothing was done! This place is a hot mess! Christian school? Don’t believe the hype! Stay far away! There are so many other school choices out there. I HATE that I sent my child there. But things will change! Just don’t do it! Go somewhere else…..anywhere else .Shalanda Bell

We visited the UNC campus as tourists, and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. A supremely well manicured and well maintained campus with a number of buildings that are couple of hundred years old. You can just walk randomly and still take in a lot of the campus, but it is even better if you have someone who knows the campus and can tell you why to take a sip of water at the fountain or a bit of history of the Old West building. We recommend the Coker Arboretum, a calming oasis with some excellent fauna (tiger lilies!).Mini Rag

My sons service completely SUCKED! We got here at 3:30 and it’s 7:43 and we’re still waiting for a SIMPLE MRI and can’t get assistance and the people are RUDE!!!! Do NOT recommend this hospital! People puked in the restrooms they left it for HOURS! This place needs a major health inspection I bet they won’t get far!! Gross and by far the worst service ever for an ER! Nothing fast about this place, or clean about it! Stay clear people! Go elsewhere!Amanda Post

My wife is currently a patient after being flown here in critical condition, This hospital literally saved her life. She also had a double lung transplant here in 2010. I can’t say enough good things about this hospital, The doctors,the nurses and any one else that works here Have been so kind and respectful to us, God has surely put us in the right place Thank you for saving her life to give us more time together here on EarthTed Scercy
