Few opportunities come around that are as life-changing as the Silver Scholar program at SOM was for me – the Silver Scholars program is for students straight out of undergrad to pursue an MBA at SOM. I matriculated in 2012 with the class of 2014 and, due to the parameters of the program, spent two years working full-time at my dream company, and then returned to SOM to complete my final year of courses and study and graduate in 2016. The most remarkable thing about SOM is the community – not just our small and large learning teams, our cohort, our class, or our school, but the fact that SOM strives to be the most closely-integrated business school with it's parent university, which translates into one of the highest percentages of joint-degree candidates and the flexibility to take as many of our electives outside of SOM as you wish. I made countless of friends from SOM, but also from Yale College, the Jackson Institute, the School of Public Health, and the Law School, just to name a few. Gorgeous facility and a great program to boot. Building has huge glass walls and a nice corridor which is used for several events. The architecture was built with the intention of reflecting their philosophies of transparency, which seems to hold true, parking can be an issue for nonstudents, have to park in another garage across the street and walk over or parallel parking.Hisham

I went here for my first two years of college. Here's what I've noticed. – The people here are great, for the most part. – UNH emphasizes on a welcoming environment – There's always new development like the Bergami center which is a very nice looking building. – I lived in Westside and Winchester halls. Both are good! – I was in Engineering which I struggled in, but when I changed my major to accounting I had no struggle. – I just really wish UNH was more helpful with finance and mental health. – They were WAY too strict with Covid. Yes, I understand the dangers, but we're adults you have to remember. They threatened to suspend if you violate rules, even accidentally. They also quarantined my entire hall in 2020 just because one student got covid. I really didn't believe they had to be that harsh. – They were also TERRIBLE with communication when moving in for my 2nd year (because of covid), and I had to spend a month trying to figure out when to move in. – The Accessibility resources center is a good place, but once they forbid me from using a calculator on a chemistry exam in March of 2020. Everybody but the ARC staff thought that was terrible. – Their math department was terrible. The professors meant well, but it was not taught in an interesting way. – On a positive note, they are fantastic at safety. In January of 2021 I got cyberbullied by someone in the school who made threats including a death threat. The ResLife dept. handled it very well and the police took it very seriously and found the guy doing it, someone who I thought was a friend. He was suspended. Overall, UNH is not perfect, but their heart is in the right place. I didn't leave for any of these reasons listed, that's another story entirely. But if you are Nick, Chris, Lucas, Antonia, Victoria, Makayla, Jenna, Galianna, Alexa, or Patrick, I miss you!James Shewan

I attended UNH between spring 2019 and January 2021 (two years) as a transfer, and earned a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice (Investigative Services Concentration). I am giving this school 3 stars because excluding a very good academic experience, there were too many low moments I experienced at UNH for me to give this review more stars. These low moments range from lack of opportunities for commuter students (which is what I was for 3/4 semesters), existing social circles that prevent prospective students from feeling any sense of belonging, the school's fostering and promotion of the word "LatinX", and other things. (Mainly because I am a Latino/Hispanic male originally from South America, and don't see how the word is applicable to the Central/South American community). The pandemic did affect the college experience in spring 2020, but my experience was already going downhill well before this. For these reasons, I feel as though this was an era of my life that never happened. Above all, I find it difficult to talk about this era and school in more positive (than negative) ways. I do recommend this school for my degree. My professors did an excellent job of teaching me. But it all does come at a cost because setbacks or letdowns (described above) can quickly affect a student's experience. Likewise, I am considering graduate school here because my professional job search opened my eyes to how graduate degrees are becoming the new standard for the U.S workforce. The beauty of this school is not just about the academic excellence and great facilities, but the diversity; it’s almost as if every nationality is represented here. Everyone is friendly from the students to the academic staffers, non-academic staffers, to the school security operatives. When I visited this school I observed wheelchair accessibility is greatly adhered to in this institution. I also noticed there’s a 24/7 Wells Fargo Bank ATM point on this campus. Consequently, you will always have access to cash. When you school here you also get to enjoy the magnificence of New Haven, West Haven and most of all New York City, since it’s just less than an hour ride with your car or via the Metro-North Train. Although my professors have been awesome, the university as a whole is horribly disorganized and mismanaged. The various staff of different departments are uniformly rude and uninformed. I've gotten wrong and/or misleading information on basic protocol literally EVERY SINGLE TIME I've spoken with someone (where do I submit work study requests? Can I still carry student insurance if I'm part-time?) Regarding the insurance, I was told "yes" by 2 different pople. HOWEVER, the answer to that is it's automatically cancelled when you register online for classes and it is received as part-time, so then you have to re-enroll as a new client at a higher rate. I found this out when I was trying to fill a prescription and after much investigation found out that my insurance had been cancelled. This is one of the MANY problems I've experienced with Southern administration. Equally as faulty, is the technology "services" that Southern uses. Windows 7 computers in the computer labs that take (no joke) 5-20 mins to log you on if there are more than 3 people in the room and remote printing that requires an installation on your laptop every time you want to use it. This is recommend since you'll otherwise sit for 20 mins for the lab computer to log on and then progress to opening and printing a file at the speed of dial-up. If you need to reach anyone (computing services, the bookstore) for questions, you'll be strained to find contact info outside of the (203)392-SCSU main office number. A detailed Google search rarely finds the phone numbers associated with specific offices. Most recently, for the past month as Southern has started the fall semester, their network has become so overloaded that the mail server periodically un-syncs all of my devices from their email (iPhone, Mac) so I don't get mail or know that an email I sent never actually sent, since it doesn't appear in ANY outbox or draft folder from any device. But since it happens off-and-on, as the SCSU network comes and goes as it pleases, I've not known about the missed emails until someone tells about a group email I missed. Lastly, and kinda most importantly, Southern's crap internet system occasionally doesn't recognize my password for Bannerweb, email, and Blackboard. Confoundingly, this doesn't occur on these applications all in one sitting. MANY TIMES I've sat and typed my password into Blackboard 5+ times and magically after repeated entries it suddenly works!!! Always had the same problem logging into "myscsu" and trying to get my email back online to the Southern server. Recommendation: If you're enrolling as a full-time undergraduate, I would HIGHLY recommend looking for a school elsewhere because you're DEFINITELY not getting your money's worth at this institution. Note: they also have no funding for student work study anymore, so don't count on that for extra money/tuition expenses. If you're taking classes part-time, for a job or continuing education, it will be a frustrating experience, but not a total waste of money. Botton line, I rated 2 stars because the professors and experiences with classmates have been awesome this past year, but the university as a whole is beyond frustrating.Jennifer Vollmer

im usually not the type of person to be negative and leave lengthy reviews but this is so necessary being that im so extremely disappointed with this school! I went for a tour in November of 2017 fell in love with the campus so I decided to apply as a transfer student in April of 2018! I sent in my fee waiver form April 20th I was told it takes 2-3weeks to hear back from the school, ok cool! here it is a MONTH later still no response, nor any communication to even let me know they've received my fee waiver form and that id be hearing from them soon or whatever the case may be just complete silence!!! not to mention the students that answer the phone are very rude and snappy! I withdrew my application and applied to Iona college! I applied with them got an acceptance letter, got my financial situation settled, paid my deposit all within a week, easy as 1,2,3 as it SHOULD be. Its an excellent school with a countless number of awards, i feel as though the process of applying to schools should be as easy and stress free as possible! Im extremely dissatisfied with my experience with this school it literally had everything I was looking for campus wise, but everything happens for a reason and being that Im going into the education field I've been told from numerous amounts of educators that im better off getting a job, with a degree from Iona under my belt. If I could give Southern zero stars I absolutely would. They are extremely unorganized, they don't care about you as a student AT ALL.. They cancelled a BIO class that I really needed a week before classes start. I emailed the head of the department asking for a solution and all I got was a too bad.. Now because of this I have to attend an extra semester and will not be graduating in time.. They offer classes at odd times which makes it hard for you to sign up for classes back to back, so far the professors I had don't care about you and are not understanding.. I graduated from Western Connecticut and I never had a problem with them and now because of Southern I have to spend more of my time and money that I don't have…Barbara Monteiro

I was looking for a school to send my 10 year old daughter who loves acting, singing and dancing and was lucky to find New Haven Academy of Performing Arts! She has been involved for only a few weeks now and absolutely loves it! My daughter is working with Stephani and Mr. Neil and cannot say enough great things about them. It makes me so happy to hear all of the great things that she tells our family and friends about NHAPA. Yesterday my daughter participated in the Halloween Spooktacular which was an incredible event. It was thoughtful, creative, fun, interactive and so much more than other productions that my daughter has participated in with other organizations. My husband and I were actually surprised, in a very good way, and we highly recommend NHAPA. If Billy, Stephani or Mr. Neil read this please know that our family gives each of you 5 stars as well. My son, has been going to New Haven Academy of Performing Arts (NHAOPA), for years n there is no other place I could EVER imagine sending him!! The teachers are absolutely whole-hearted, genuine n go above and beyond for the children! We started with summer camp n it has grown into more! Singing, acting n the very BEST part, is my son (n so many other children) feel that NHAOPA, TRULY is home away from home!! I have NEVER felt so unbelievably grateful that not only is my son learning so much but, he has gained so many friends!! I have NHAOPA to thank for that because they teach the children to support each other, build each other up, help each other, enjoy n have a blast working together!! Our daughter joined the summer camp program 3 years ago, the experience was so amazing that she did not want to leave. We have watched her grow in confidence and talent each year while developing friendships that have supported and encouraged her every step of the way. District Arts and Education is a really cool environment that I wish more schools emulated. The instructors are kind, caring and engaged with the material. They allowed the class to work at their own pace and in their own way on projects I thought were more fun than the baking soda volcano. Breakfast and lunch are also always delicious. When my family had moved back to New-Haven my son wanted to continue to play violin. The school he was attending in New-Haven didn't offer string instruments.He was recommended for the Instrumental Impact program. He received 1/2 hour lessons once a week from a wonderful violin teacher Mark. The only issue I have is because my child is in this Impact program he Cannot change his instrument "EVER". I think this is absurd! why force a child to continue with an instrument when he wants to venture and try other options. My son is discouraged now and doesn't want to continue with the program. Music was a very big part of his daily routine and I feel bad that I cant afford to pay for the piano lessons that he wants. He told me not worry about. I did leave a message with the director Mr.Bloom and someone from the office called me and told that there was nothing Mr.Bloom could do about it. I really wish my sons school had a music program because it is a very important part of his life as it is for all children. So, sadly my son will not be apart of this program anymore. I urge parents to make sure they know all the information and ask more questions when enrolling your child in a program at NMS Impact program. I wish I had known this before he enrolled 3 yrs ago so he wouldn't have to be discouraged now. Horrible teachers. One of the violin teachers would yell at me for not able to catch up like her other students. She would also dis-encourage me telling me that i wasn't meant to play violin. Stunning campus. Reminds me of Oxford. Unfortunately student campus tours were cancelled after we made plans to visit, so we created our own itinerary. Lots of areas were closed off to outsiders, and I watched as students entered through large gates with key-in access from their phones. Only downside of Yale is New Haven itself. Outside of the Yale campus, New Haven can be a little sketchy in some areas and I would advise caution when roaming.Avalus

Full disclosure: I didn't go to school here, so I can't speak to the academics. I did work with an alumnus and he was a cool guy, so I'm guessing this university is a great place. The campus is beautiful in an old, classic way. It's so stunning, I'd say it merits a visit on its own. I had a great time scrolling through campus and snapping pics. Place is free to visit, no Pre-registration required. Masks are required, amd they do have masks to offer i believe. There are also portable stools to take with you if necessary. Bathrooms are on 1st floor and every other floor thereafter i believe. I believe the area is handicap accessible as well. Photo exhibits, modern art, western, eastern, African, and more art from around the world. Past, present and novel art. Sculptures, paintings, mixed media. 4 floors with different layouts, something for everyone. Takes about 2 hours if you rush through. 4 hours if you take your time. 3 hours if you pick and choose what you like. Staff is overall friendly, vigilance varies. You will be reprimanded for pointing at greek sculptures or breathing too close, no exaggeration, but more modern art had pretty lax security, euro paintings staff were more friendly, guiding and talkative. My father sparked conversation with one of the spanish speaking staff that was Ecuadorian, which made him feel a bit more engaged. Gift shop is pretty bare bones, mostly paper media. Location is right in downtown and parking is busier on weekends. Tours are also available for those who wish lore engagement with the history and media. Overall 5 stars, especially as the no cost to visitors makes up for any small inconvenience. Visited on

I love going to museums and when they are free, that’s the best. Well I gotta say that this might be the best one I’ve ever been to. I was not honestly expecting much but I made the day trip up from NYC and I just loved it. The art on display is amazing. You can really get lost in everything that they have to offer. Parking wasn’t too hard to get on a Sunday. And the staff was very friendly. They do have lockers for your stuff so that was helpful. The only thing that they didn’t have was any kind of gift shop because I collect magnets from my trip and they didn’t have anything to add to my collection. Visited on

My friends and I went to go play some soccer on your field and the lacrosse team asked us to leave which we did but while we were changing into our normal shoes the team was shooting lacrosse balls at us and was saying/chanting racial slurs like "Trump", and "Fu*k Mexicans". They threw a ball at me and it almost hit me. Luckily, I had a bag with me and the bag stop the ball from hitting me. After they called security, they watched as the college team kept saying things, yet they did not stop them, and the coach didn't either. We tried to make a report but the school is closed due to Easter break. I hope the school does something about this because it was a completely disgusting behavior and should be taken seriously. I visited Albertus Magnus College. It welcomes every National Origin, Race, and Religion with open arms. Would recommend attending Albertus Magnus College over Quinnipiac University. If you want your kid to be disrespectful…to be high and drunk and smoking on a sporting event, this is your college. Security is a joke. They are afraid of the students. They don't even take pride in their school, throwing their garbage and disposable masks on the ground. Security smell like booze. Very disappointing. I was asked to bring my vaccination card and advices that they enforce mask wearing for all events. Yet no one had masks. My oldest daughter started Coop in 2013 in the 9th grade, this is going to be her senior year fall 2015 and 2016 summer she will graduate. It has been a very exciting journey with my daughter in this school. She has grown and has showed so much progress….the teachers have done so much to keep her on task and for that I am grateful. Ms." L" I know it was a hard year for you and my daughter but you work your tookus off for your Class, a big thank you. I was always greeted at the entrance to the school with a friendly face from security to the front office staff and the teachers and principal that is often moving around in the building. It is a beautiful building and a great atmosphere to grow in. I remember once experience where my daughter was being bullied and I went into that building very angry……and spoke with the front office staff and they quickly made me feel that I was going to be taken care of and they were going to make sure they gave me priority. They quickly ask the principal to come down and he was the most attentive to my words and it was handled in about one week, he personally called me and assured me it was taken care of and how it was handled. since nothing like that has happened again. I have one more Daughter to go in this school and she too is blossoming in this space call Coop high school, she is becoming a lot more outgoing an A student. They both speak highly of their teachers and even the ones that make them work they still have good things to say about them.
