14 Best Mfa Programs In Madison, WI (2022 Updated)

I recently finished my second Technical degree for Metal Fabrication as a returning student. I delayed going back to school for years for lots of reasons, but mostly because I thought it would be as awful of an experience as High School was. Instead the teachers in my program were excellent. I was always challenged by the projects and supported in my learning in equal measure. If you're looking to get into welding or Metal Fabrication, these programs are career fields that need people, pay well, and you can learn them here! Don't sleep on the trade skills that can be taught here. Go to the open houses, see if these are things you're interested in doing. A 4 year degree isn't The guarantee of employment it used to be, but these one year Technical degrees, leading to in demand fields are.Travis H

Very nice tech college. Almost everyone you come across on campus can point you in the right direction. I just started school today online. But tomorrow I get to go to campus. It's a clean sanitary environment. There is currently some remodeling going on, so part of the building you cannot access… yet! AC was on, felt awesome. temperature didn't change much room to room either. All the employees seem to know their job very well and are willing to help. I chose Madison Area Technical College because I know many people that have graduated and successfully got into a job they wanted. This school is also smaller than UW Madison so I feel like the learning experience is better, more hands on, more participation versus a large school such as UW Madison.Shane Toycen

The good profs here are all just professors moonlighting from UW Madison, I'd honestly say you should apply to and go to literally any other UW system school before here. The quality of education isn't bad- but they somehow managed to misplace finances and put 650 bucks into collections randomly – without mailing me any notifications, and without a notifications on the online portal. You won't get competency from any of the administrative staff, expect 5 week long waits to see a counselor for any sort of urgent need. If you are a student with a disability – make sure you have additional copies of any medical documentation, they will claim to lose it. Most of the education staff despises the administrative staff and yeah, I can see why.Bee

Students pay tens of thousands of dollars for their nursing degrees only to sit in a 30 minute graduation ceremony with no cap and gown. It's very unfortunate that the staff here downplays such a wonderful achievement. Let's also not forget all of the "refreshments provided afterward"…. there were none. There was a student that passed away and her name was never acknowledged during the ceremony. Sad. Very sad.Tony Robertson

Beautifully restored and remodeled. It contains a small cafe that leads to a nice, open seating area that is lined with soft chairs, ottomans, and wheeled tables that make a nice desk. Amazing space for people with physical and cognitive disabilities to express themselves using different media sources (paint, clay, paper etc) allowing clients to build up their own strength & confidence in themselves by establishing new social connections and learning new skills- Highly skilled & compassionate volunteers work in small groups with the clients- The finished art is displayed as you walk in, and I have been moved to tears by some of the works- Highly recommend –Sarah Oliver

Union South, at the University of Wisconsin, is the place to be prior to UW home football games. The marching band makes an arrival about an hour before kickoff and showcases the incredible talents of one the country's best college bands. Enjoy a New Glarus Spotted Cow beer and loaded brat and you'll think you're in heaven. Well, maybe it's just Madison, but it's about as perfect it is gets. Then join the band for short march under the Camp Randall arch for a nostalgic walk into the home of the Badgers.Dave Chaimson

Very large campus, with I believe 35k students on average. The campus and it's buildings are very nice. Luckily, I visited before school started, so it wasn't busy at all. University of Wisconsin-Madison even has it's own ice cream shop! I believe that UWM runs it's own dairy. The path by the lake is also very beautiful, and I would recommend walking there. My only complaint is that everything seems to be very spread out, but that's a good way to get steps.Griffin May

Great school. The safest school. Beautiful lakeshore. Academic quality is very high. Very strong for sociology, psychology, education, biochem, chem, chem eng., etc. Good place for raising kids on campus for grad students. Strong sports, football, basketball, hockey, etc. Very very gentle people on and off campus. Nice city full of highly educated people. Best campus for bike riding. Top hospitals. This school portrays Cassie Begalle on their alumni page. If you want a school that showcases frauds then this is it! They call her a superwoman and highlight her as a wonderful mother and businesswoman. If her superwoman power is cheating on her family and destroying another family in the process during work and on company dime then I suppose she is a success. Her career boasts of her wonderful work of "down there care" when she worked for Kotex. Wow! Down there care wasn't on her mind when she wasn't using any protection playing Russian roulette with other peoples health. So until Wisconsin School of Business takes their alumni a little more serious, I would not recommend giving them a dime.J M

Grainger is a great modern building with a fantastic little cafe. Good for conferences, studying, anything. The library on the second floor is a great place to go do some homework.Ally Burg

If you like natural light, there is no better place to study than the giant reading room on the fifth floor. The ceiling is ridiculously high for a library, and the wall overlooking Bascom Hill is made of glass.Andrew Adams

The Emergency Medicine Residency Coordinator (Sarah Fallon) is very disorganized and rude. She refuses to answer questions and ignores emails, which makes the program look bad. I'd personally stay far away from here.Aditi Grover

I go there its okay I guess. I love all the graffiti in the bathroom stalls its all so inspiring, like a ton of poetry and quotes and things. There's one stall that says "say hi if youre gay and single" and there are so many people who said hi, so that's good. But none of the stalls have locks. Also, the water fountains are radioactive.melody pond

Lots of kids skip class throughout the school day. If you're in the neighborhood, you'll see them wandering around. Why doesn't the school enforce truancy? Otherwise, it's pretty good as far as public schools go. . . I'm worried how the administration will adapt with the changing demographics and the ongoing budget situation.Jared Davis

This high school is known for having some of the top academics in the state. The school currently contains around 2200 student and that number is gradually increasing. With this many students, you are sure to find your niche. While the athletics are somewhat lacking; this is great school with great diversity and staffJake Karll
