I feel as if most of the reviews given do not do justice to the University itself and to the incoming freshman's coming straight from high school. I chose to go to this particular university because my family engraved this stigma against large universities. "Smaller classes" are better because you will get a more personable experience with your professor. Also, growing up in a Catholic household, this was the ideal school for me. I was also drawn into the University for many other reasons. 1. I was drawn to the nursing program because it stated that all "incoming freshman's with 3.5 GPA's will have automatic admittance into the nursing program". 2. The scholarship I received in the mail blew my mind. However, little did I know that it would still cost me an arm and a leg to pay for me staying there. 3. The location because it is in the most beautiful part of Houston. 4. The friendly faces and helpful staff. I will never forget any of the professor's I have taken because they really are the most kindest people you'll ever meet. (most of them at least). I spent one year at UST and I can honestly tell you that I have gained some and lost some. I have gained great communication skills, great study skills, few great friends, and student debt. On the other hand, I lost one year of college, thirty thousand dollars, and valuable knowledge I could have further expanded instead of taking philosophy and theology requirements. I enrolled to UST intending to graduate with a nursing degree. I thought I gained automatic admittance due to my 3.5+ GPA in highschool. However, that was not the case because you must apply to UST first as a student, then apply into the nursing school at the end of the year (which is really competitive because there are only 40 slots and 100-200 students applying?). If I were to have known that I would have just gone to UTA where they do live up to that statement of automatic admittance with a certain GPA requirement. So I basically spent a year paying for graduate school when all I needed were pre-reqs that I could have taken at HCC. I remember signing up for ONE summer statistics class and the price totaled to $4,000+. People at UH spend $4,000-5,000 in ONE SEMESTER with 12 credits. Also, to all the feminist's out there, they pay male professor's more than female professors (for doing the same job). And that does not undermine the fact that the professors make less than the average salary while the president of the university makes more than the average university president salary? hm. With the tuition exceeding $30,000+ a year, it comes to show where the money goes to since you cannot see it on the campus. The library is out dated, the buildings are outdated, however the church is beautiful. I guess a really good thing UST does is how they offer amazing scholarships to veterans and police officers who serve. Another disappointment is the lack of student/campus life. This school seems to be more fitting for older students, not younger incoming freshman. There are not many active clubs or events like you would see at UTSA, UH, or any public college. It somewhat makes you lose the "college experience". However, they do offer retreats and study abroad opportunities. It is really inclusive to Catholicism, however it comes to no surprise as this is a catholic university. If you are financially well off, with money to spare for 6 extra classes (18 credits total) and smaller class sizes then this is the place for you. If you get admitted for free due to financial aid, then even better. Do not attend this school if you are an incoming freshman looking to experience college to the max. This university won't give you the opportunity to explore what you want, instead it will decide for you. And smaller class sizes will not make you pass, it is up to you to take that initiative. No matter how big or small the university is, it is your initiative that makes you succeed. All in all, it is an average school, just isn't the one for me.delol mko

The Cameron School of Business is great for anyone looking for a good quality MBA program in Houston for working professionals. They are AACSB accredited, which was one of my deciding factors in going to school here. Less than 5% off all business schools in the world are AACSB accredited according to their website. The staff is friendly, some of the classrooms could use updating, and the computer labs need a bit of an upgrade. The campus is really nice and was designed by Philip Johnson the famous architect. Overall the programs are good especially for working professionals. However, some of the finance, accounting, and other quantitative courses should be more challenging and require more Calculus, Diff Eq. more advanced statistics, etc. to improve the quality of the overall program.Tom Dantario

I studied Graphic Design and graduated with an Associates Degree. If I had the opportunity to do this again, I would not attend The Art Institute. The school is a train wreck. The support is non-existent and the staff say they care about your well being, but in truth, you are just a dollar sign. While I admit there were some wonderful instructors at this school who truly cared about their students, there were just as many instructors who were the complete opposite. The school likes to employ instructors that are dinosaurs with zero knowledge of what the current industry requires. Instructors should teach the student knowledge of industry programs and grade according to how well the student can implement the program. Instead, certain instructors show favoritism towards one or two students while grading other students solely on their own personal opinion of what they feel the final outcome of a project should look. I'm sorry, but in the world of art, everyone has an opinion but that does not make their opinion the only way to accomplish a goal. For every client in the industry, there is a designer. Everyone has their own style that will suite individual clients. If your instructor thinks inside the box and is narrow minded, then they will never appreciate someone who tries to be a unique individual. I am thankful for such instructors such as Delores Comstock, Michael Briere, Bryan Key, Michael Stone, Meredith Cunningham, James Stevens, Dr. Scott Sheinfeld and Michael Bulsiewicz. These individuals actually cared about me and my fellow classmates. These instructors actually took the time to nurture us and share their own design experience with us. It was these instructors that gave me the ability to withstand the blatant favoratism and the biased criticism of one instructor that clearly grades and judges based on personal opinion instead of student talent. Overall, I did learn and I did complete the program, but this school needs a serious overhaul. Financial Aid, Career Services, the Academic Advisors, the class schedules and availability of required courses all need changing. This school had a second campus that was forced to close because of the legal issues of all the Art Institute schools. That closing was a terrible shame and waste because they were actually thriving and they were making noticable changes. The atmosphere was creative and nurturing instead of sterile and cold. My best advice to anyone interested in attending this school is to please do your homework. Look at the accreditation of the school. Look at their legal issues. Look at the actual program of interest and the success rate of graduating and obtaining a job in that field. Talk to former students. Ask questions. If I had done that in the beginning, I would have chosen a better school. The success of anything starts with the people who run the business – your CEO's, the President, the faculty heads. Horrible Horrible. Especially for veterans. I was going there on the G.I Bill and had a buddy i served with lose his wife and child during the pregnancy. He wasn't just a friend, he was my brother. I asked all my teachers as well as admissions staff if it was okay if I left to go see him (He lived in Tennessee) and made sure i wouldn't be dropped from my classes. I was assured i wouldn't be due to the circumstances and turns out that wasn't the case at all. I was instantly dropped and in debt to the VA 9 grand because they told me something not true. It took weeks of back and forth with them to convince them to even just give me F's in the class as i didn't have 9 grand for something i wasn't responsible for. Year later I try and re apply to the school and they say my completion rate is too low because of all of those F's. F's that shouldn't have even BEEN there because i was told i wouldn't be dropped. Courses, dinner for 2 They are students and have a lot to learn. Terrible service, terrible food (not every dish), but beautiful plating, quality ingredients, and "high-class" recipes. The menu is different every week so get in contact with Stephen for that. Menus are a good 5-7 course dinner, each time. They usually have two options for each course to choose from. This week was the last week of the spring semester (March 14, 2019) and the only good thing was the mint/pea/crab soup. Everything else was SUPER salty, way too tart, basic/boring, or flavorless. I'm still stuck on the overly salty!! The salmon was so salty, I'm still dying. The lighting there is bad for food picture taking, but here's a picture of the desert: it was a trio. I really enjoy the student life here and most of the staff here is friendly, but overall the lack of professors and class schedule availablity is very disturbing. Classes that are available during the day is very limited and a majority are only offered at night plus a good 3/4 of the classes are taught by the same professors. The STEM department is very underfunded, I feel that this college is missing out on a big opportunity since the general area around here is next up and coming medical center (League City, Webster, Clear Lake, etc.). These two have been a big issue that have come up a lot when talking to other students. Another drawback of this campus is that you cannot graduate on time due to the lack of open class availablity. Also, this university is not a friendly parent student, so if you are a student that has kids I would look elsewhere. Overall, I feel like this is a very underfunded univeristy that needs a lot of improvement and it is sad to say that the community colleges are better than this one.Ashley M

Went to help move my daughter into her dorm/room on Saturday 1/16/21 & evryone we saw were very helpful, questions were answered & its been just a couple of days but my daughter has had an amazing experience!!! Update: unfortunately after the freeze we had my daughter was asked to go to hotel or back home (which was fine with me) until they "fixed" the problems that occured due to weather, the unfortunate thing is that it's so expensive to live there & YES she had help with financial aid but they did NOT give any discount even though she wasn't there for a month, not fair but oh well it is what it is..just had to write down the experience as part of my review.Jessica Ramirez

This University is trash. They can't keep professors, but their tuition keeps going up. Don't expect any help from your advisor because they won't be in your field of work and have zero clue about your major. They are business people only. The STEM department has drama in it so they are a mess. Expect to be in a class of 50 in a tiny room using garbage computer programs that are always expensive or vague and then not be able to receive any help from anyone. I have never been so ashamed of a school before. I have a few friends who go here. Quite a few of the staff and professors are unprofessional and have an attitude with students of which is uncalled for. These adults call themselves professionals when they need to check their attitude and professionalism. Two families I know have taken their kids out because of the poor management and treatment to kids who specifically have done nothing wrong. Specifically the highschool program here. Shameful. Why are you in the people business if you are horrible to people? I suggest finding a better school that treats you with respect and dignity. Parked on the side of the garage, and gave people room to go around me. This cop pulled up and turned on his siren to make me move. I then lost signal connection on a very important call, while I was trying to get directions fast to get to where I am going. I had to rush out of the garage, to get a signal. I ended up blocking a metro, to which I apologize for. After being on hold for 20 minutes, I was able to get the updated directions. The cop had room to go around, but I guess he had to show some authority. They really need to be defunded. There was no one there, just the two of us and plenty of space. Some of the staff there are just terrible, and have a very rude attitude especially the lady who was outside holding her little scanner sign at the front of the registration area. She said a very rude unnecessary comment to a child after an altercation with the parent. The comment was made when the parent had already walked away.Graciela T

This is a tough review to write. The creative culinary options such as what Le Jardinier offers are not easily found in the Houston area. BCN is the closest. This is an ultra chic atmosphere, one I’d expect to find in Manhattan or Los Angeles. From the moment you step through the doors and are greater by the hostess, you realize this is not a typical dining experience. I was surprised there is no dress code and people were dining in jeans and tennis shoes. Adding a dress code would help to elevate the atmosphere. My friend and I ordered our cocktails, I had the gin and tonic and when one component is added it turns colors. It’s a fun party trick but not one I need to have repeated. We did not opt for the tasting menus but instead ordered the burrata cheese, creamy delicate texture and paired perfectly with watercress pistou and slivers of strawberries. One of the highlights of the menu. Secondly we had the scallops. This dish was inspired by the MC Esher exhibit at the museum. Scallops were cooked perfectly, the flavors were delicate and not over powering. Third, we opted for the beet salad over faro. This was the least impressive dish of the evening. We still ate it but did not care for the overpowering faro with the beets. For the entrees we started with the risotto. This was outstanding. Light and layered with many flavors. Lastly we had the wagyu beef. Our absolute favorite dish of the evening. The slices of beef were seasoned and cooked perfectly. While the food was outstanding, the service was less than so. We averaged 20-30 minutes between each dish. I’ve had a 22 course meal that took 3 hours. The staff was not attentive to the details such as water glasses needing refilled and my friend waiting to catch a servers eye for another glass of wine. While the food is superb, the service will be the death of Le Jardinier. The staff needs some guidance and training. For the cost of the meal, expectations are higher than normal. Dine in: Yes

Le Jardiniere is a nice upscale restaurant. My wife and I parked in the garage for the glassell building. We didn't see any dedicated (free) parking for restaurant guests. While our reservation was for 6pm, we finished exploring the museum a bit early and the restaurant opened somewhere between 5:15pm and 5:30pm. Even though we got there 30min early, they sat us down right away. The table arrangements were fine, but I wouldn't recommend this place for large groups. The round table design seemed awkward for the large groups sitting near us. Service was excellent! Our server was the best. Very friendly and helpful, looking out for what was best for us. The sommelier was good, giving us some personalized wine pairings to go with our a la carte food selections. Out of the dishes we had, the stand outs were the burrata and the steak. My wife and I both agreed we'd go sit at the bar and order both of those with a glass of wine any time and be happy. They both had that 'melt in your mouth' quality to them. Of the dishes we had, the halibut was a bit underwhelming. It was a little salty and over cooked. We passed the feedback along to the staff so hopefully that won't be an issue in the future. The desserts were delicious as you'd expect. This was one of the most expensive meals I've ever had. I only mention that so if you do choose to partake, be prepared. If you share dishes and skip alcohol, it could be affordable. But in general, this is a pricey restaurant. Vegetarian options: They are very friendly when it comes to dietary needs and will work with you as needed. Parking: If you park in the garage, there is no comped parking. Expect to pay $10 or so. when we first came in, it was a nice experience, host and hostess were nice. Was then visibly judged by the server, Noah, because we wanted to share the $165 seasonal expression rather than getting 3 courses a la carte because we wanted to try the food first before ordering more than 1 plate of it. Then, when the bread came out, the person explaining each bread stated “if you know what that is,” which came off as rude and condescending. Made the whole experience awkward and unpleasant. Best dish was the risotto, absolutely delicious and would come back just for that. We got the wagyu beef in place of the lamb. When you first cut the steak, it was so tough, the table started shaking. Eating the seared crust of the steak and inner piece together, it was good. But eating solely the outside, it tasted burnt and it ruined our appetite. This is an outstanding place to visit. The gallery and library are impressive. However, for someone relatively new to a DSLR camera and photography this is the place to learn how it all comes together. I took the entry level camera class with Christy. I learned more in the first two hours with the hands on training, education and explanations than I did in the last few years of reading the manuals and watching videos. I am retired and travel extensively. I have to admit that I 'bought' into the hobby of photography. I own some expensive cameras and lenses. For the last couple of years I've used them on Auto mode as a point and shoot. In her class, Christy showed how to use all of the features of the camera and how to compose and frame the shot. I wish I had taken this course two or three years ago. It is well worth the cost of tuition. I can't wait to take another class.Rick Sullivan

I was super excited to visit the Houston Center For Photography and it was on my list of galleries to visit. After leaving a near by museum my boyfriend asked me if I wanted to stop by so we did. As soon as we walked in I said “Hello” to the two guys sitting at the desk… neither of them said a word. Didn’t greet us at all… didn’t tell us anything about the gallery… NOTHING. One of the guys looked up and went back to doing whatever he was doing. I started to proceed further into the gallery to start viewing then I turned to my boyfriend and told him that I would rather leave because that was completely rude… so we left. As an artist and someone that visits galleries and museums quite often I was very turned off by that… I’ve never been to a gallery and was completely ignored before now. VERY RUDE…Jocelyn Lightfoot

We registered our photography loving daughter for the week long camp. They had approximately 15 kids or so with 1 instructor. The curriculum was uninspired. The kids were also crammed in a probably 15×8 foot room from 9-3 with very little outside time. Two days in not a picture was taken. One quick outing to try a camera they made out of a tin and we had enough. When the instructor was asked about the cramped conditions and lack of photography she responded, “its out of my control”. Very unhappy with what could have been a great opportunity for the kids and the studio. Seemed like an uninspired attempt at child care. At this age and price we expect more.Susan lynn

Worst school ever. You come to the U.S. to be taught by native speakers, Right? Unfortunately, most of the teachers in this school are not native. Not only this, but the facilities are horrible. They were taught us in dormitory, where the class rooms close to the laundry room. Evenmore, in case you need the restroom, you will need to go to another building (5 mins walking). They have hundreds of books and magazines from various publications. I have come here for 2 papers this semester and everyone was so nice and helpful. I regularly conduct research at the Hirsch Library at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and can attest that the staff and collections are truly outstanding. My four years here were pretty good. Classes are small and (most) instructors do care. I do feel that students have to pick up more and more slack every year as they enter the workforce; just a degree isn't going to cut it (if you want a great job). The biggest issue I had while attending UHD is that you must double check everything administrative while attending. Financial aid? They will mess something up unless you check on them and follow up often. Registration? Random class drops. Cashier? Random holds on your account. Student employees are particularly clueless when it comes to asking them important questions. Why are student employees in financial aid providing factually incorrect answers? A wrong answer can cost someone thousands, or tens of thousands. Despite that I enjoyed my years here and would recommend UHD to anyone looking for a degree who will put in extra work to make it as valuable as possible.Jonathan Martin

I haven't had too many issues here, I have enjoyed my classes and most of my professors actually care about teaching and respond to you when you ask them a question. I haven't had any issues with financial aid or being able to get anyone on the phone, just the usual call and leave a message but they are mostly good about returning your calls. I am a fully online student and it is very simple to get what I need completed. My only complaint is that when attempting to speak with my advisor in the CJ department it is next to impossible to get ​Mrs. Esparza on the phone or to answer an email. We even had a set appointment for a phone call and she couldn't even call on time, she waited 15 minutes to closing to decide to call me back… I work which is why I go fully online when I take time off I expect my appointment to happen not be blown off by a person who takes a two hour lunch every day at work.Alejandrea B

Went to their open house this past weekend. Parking was a mile away, construction and detours everywhere. I can't see myself taking a class on this campus at night and having to walk that far to my vehicle at 9:00 at night. The university Professors were, for the most part, friendly but one of the transfer advisors turned me off when she said, "we really don't care about your Associates Degree." I realize they are a four-year University but there are some jobs that want a minimum Associates Degree so even if they "don't care" it still makes a difference to some employers. That said, their Business Program is highly accredited so I will probably end up going there anyway – if I can take most of my courses online since it is also VERY easy to get lost in the maze of wings and hallways of their buildings.Sharita Piazza

Definitely a great place to visit when you visit Houston. When you enter the school with its front gate, you are greeted with a. Long hall of old trees covering the passage of both car and sidewalk. Then after the long passage, you can see an arch right in the middle of it, leading the the main school faculty. I got to have a sneak peak within the buildings and discovered they are delicately placed together and every classroom is pretty neat. On the side note, aviation enthusiasts can visit here since it’s at the start of Houston airport runway and you can see planes taking off or landingIan Chen

What a wonderful experience! The campus is the ideal place to take a stroll along the trees and appreciate the architecture. The arches were among my favorite! The university has a lot of places to explore like the Chapel, the library, the gardens and the many sitting areas to just enjoy the view! Beautiful campus close to downtown Houston and Houston Medical Center. Lots of oak tree lined walking and jogging paths for students, visitors, and neighbors to use. Parking on campus can be a challenge and is expensive if not staying a while, caps out at $12 for a day but roughly $5 an hour others. Everyone here is so welcoming and extremely nice. I love the campus, it’s beautiful and I love everyone there. They are taking precautions by having only two days a week per person and the rest of the days are online, while there everyone wears a mask. Aaron Estrada is the academic advisor and helps you in any way he can. They had a drive through welcome to all the new students transfers and freshman. HBU is a great school. The staff here really cares for the students. They have great and ideal degree plans and they really focus in on what you plan to do in terms of what you ask for. It's really a small campus and has great Christian views. You'll love going to convocation here, it's always a great time. Every time I return to the campus, I’m filled with such tremendous pride … I remember as an undergrad, a lifetime ago, when the “master plan” was created and seeing that vision realized is just awesome! My time at the University was transformative and I’m proud to give back as a lifetime member of the alumni association, an athletics season ticket holder and I serve on my fraternity’s alumni volunteer council. Cost – $19 without the special exhibit, $26 with it; another $10 for parking fees. There are 3 grand buildings as well as garden areas within the MFAH – and all are equally amazing and awe striking! Chalk out an entire day (at least!) to be amazed by paintings, sculptures, old relics, modern art, and interactive exhibits. It was crowded however each building is so huge that you are sure to find several moments of solitude to think about the art you observe. There is also a well rated cafe and restaurant within the building, although I didn’t have time to snack at either. A wonderful way to spend a hot summer day in Houston! Visited on

Best place to go if you are interested in art! It includes 3 buildings with 3 different topic, they are connected by elevators, so you don't have to worry about crossing the road. It took us few minutes to find parking garage, but it's all good. We went when they had 2 special exhibitions. 1 of them was really cool. However, The other was not the greatest. Most of the staff is courteous. However, there are staff members who are rude and not so friendly. We were at the place during closing hours. With 15 minutes still left for closing we were asked to leave the building and be in the parking before 6. We wanted to check 1 last section and this was not acceptable. It is worth a visit if you are into fine arts and museums. Overall an okay experience.Ravneet Toor

Although the exterior may feel somewhat stiff, what happens on the inside is absolutely wonderful — if you like good music. What many call the Juilliard of Texas, the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University is a haven for the future stars of classical music. Best of all, you will almost always be treated to free concerts — students and faculty. The intimate size of the concert halls plus the reverberant acoustics combine to render a fabulous place to take in the fearless energy of young artists. Nice venue for enjoying a concert. I was attending a Jazz concert as part of the Texas Music fest. Seating was comfortable, acoustics are great, and I really enjoy the view from the side balcony seats.Jamie A

Excellent art with some of the finest pieces of contemporary and modern art. They have alot of the masters such as picasso, magritte, miro, edvard munch, rothko etc., But they have such a variety of sculpture , jewelry, furniture and it's very clean. Temperature checks before entry. Parking is available on Main street and there is free parking on the street if you can find it. Bathrooms are VERY CLEAN. There is hand sanitizer everywhere. The cafe and restaurant are not open yet but there are alot of good options nearby. A wonderful way to spend 2 to 3 hours. There are also interactive pieces.Rena Patel

Normally I prefer the free and smaller museums but . . .MFAH is an exception it is a world class art museum and keeps improving with time. We really enjoyed the Hockney-Van Gogh exhibit which endsv20 June 2021. The new audio guide system with Scattergram access works well and beats carrying around the neck type old school guides. The pandemic has ushered in new tech that will work well post-pandemic. Thursdays are free for GA. If there is an exhibit you want to see consider a membership to help defray the cost, support a worthwhile organization and access to many benefits. We recommend MFAH.Carlos Ramirez

Each gallery transports you to a different reality within art. You can expect to feel every emotion on the spectrum just by simply making your way through them. There was so much to see we will definitely be going back, and we missed the underground tunnels! We parked on the street not realizing there is underground attached parking, and it's part of the experience. Don't make our mistake!
