If I could give this university a zero star, I would do it. As an international student, I have millions of terrible experiences with this university. The graduate school and the international students office have been really really rude. They will try to frustrate you using any way they could. Also, the insurance requirement for international students have been so unfair. They will charge you lots lots of money for the insurance for the summer time even though you are not enrolled in any classes during the summer. Also, the staff working in the graduate school have been so rude and know very little. Some of the graduate and undergraduate classes have been so meaningless and do not worth the money.yaqing cao

Atm a lot of construction is going around the university. Either adding new school building, dinning areas, or apartments around the school. The gym is great, great gym equipment, indoor track, and classes that you can sign up for if you do not like working out alone. Building are easy to locate but if you have trouble finding them people will be nice to direct to the correct locations. I have been attending Texas Wesleyan since the Spring 2018 semester with a semester break after my first one. This school has changed my life. I've seen some of the other reviews and claims that it is a "liberal university… brainwashing their students," or that it is "too expensive" and "not worth the price." From my experience here, none of that is true. To start with the first claim, what happens here inside the classroom is that the professors, both liberal and conservative, require their students to provide evidence for their claims when they hand out assignments about controversial and non-controversial topics. That is not brainwashing; it is teaching students how to think for themselves, and in a society devoted to freedom, one cannot be free if they cannot think for themselves and question what they've been taught. As to the other claims about the price of the school, yes, this private university is more expensive than other schools in the area. However, what you are getting when you pay for these classes is a much smaller class size than any other school that I know if in DFW. This is extremely helpful for all students that attend and are willing to take advantage of professor office hours and the ability to ask questions in the middle of class. It only takes a willingness to use the resources available, resources we pay for, to be successful. With that in mind, tuition does go up, as it does at every college and university, but Texas Wesleyan goes out of its way to find grants, scholarships, and other types of tuition assistance for their students. There is a lot of care and love put into every aspect of what this school does and I wouldn't trade it for any other school in the metroplex.Steven Leach

Choose another school. They charge way too much and do nothing to better the student living quarters. Have old dirty washers and dryers. Clogged sinks. Took too long to set dates for graduation ceremonies. Literally didn’t have the times until about 4 wks prior to graduation. Very unorganized. Maintenance never responds to or fixes repair requests. buses and parking are nightmares here. No parking or you will have to pay everytime you park including weekend whereas other schools often free. Buses always late and full. The school not even tried to get more buses. Also, there is 40mins wait between 2 buses. Finally, unequal opportunity for on cambus job or help. We came to many departments and asked for help but they rarely tried to solve but kept saying we could not do anything. And we came back multiple time and the other did help us out. I enjoyed my time at UNT, made some great friends, and I have good memories. However, this University is not longer a place of higher education but a political activist training ground. I never thought that I’d see the day that The First Amendment would not be honored at UNT, but that is what has happened. And to think I have a degree in Criminal Justice from there is similar to being trained as an EMT by Dr. Kevorkian. The Grad program is a joke. I've never met more people incompetent of doing their job. The undergrad school should conduct training with the grad school to get them up to par. Because they dropped the ball, I now get stuck with their issues. Also the elderly lady working in billing should take a phone etiquette class. We are in 2022. We chose this school solely based on its fine arts and just for the experience. I can say that we have experienced and moving on. Not only do I feel the teachers are not caring but I feel as though they allow the student to sort of bully one another. My daughter has been treated differently by girl students and teachers. They are mean girls. I have addressed the counselor, teachers, and assistant principal myself on several occasions in regards to students not keeping their hands to themselves, but it just seems to continue. The teachers are not attentive of what’s going on and seems they are only there to get a check. My daughter went there are it was horrible she got bullied by her classmates. The teachers never did anything about it and they did not teach the kids well and when she would ask a question they would yell at her for being curious. She hated it there and kids made fun of her for her medical condition. The school is way to competitive and makes the kids feel bad if they mess up and they will compare you to other kids. The Communication Design program at the College of Visual Arts and Design has been a well of knowledge when it comes to design. This school used to be a great school, but now it has gone downhill. The math teachers are now leaving every year because of how bad it is and they're also bad at teaching too. The school has also prepared to get rid of 7th and 8th grade since they cannot find a decent math teacher nor can they fund it for them. Some of the teachers are extremely rude, when my child didn't want to participate in the spring recital again the teachers said if you don't want to perform then leave the school and go somewhere else. Overall is academics of this school is a joke and the fine arts are bad, the teacher teaching theater is horrible and can't control a class, the dance teacher is horrible and has bad choreography. The recitals are a complete waste of a $100 because after you pay for that fee, you still have to spend an extra $140-$230 spending on some clothes and stuff that your child will only use once. I was a student for around five years and I can say it was ok at first. They were nice and understanding but as I went up in grades it got progressively worse. Ms. Macsimik (I don't care if I spelled it wrong) was an awful teacher who'd made up awards for every student. I hadn't received an award even though I did as much work as everyone else. The University of Dallas is a private Catholic university that offers its students a top notch liberal arts education. The Catholic identity at UD is very strong. With about 80% of the student population being Catholic, it’s a great place for devout Catholics to spend four years learning and strengthening their faith. That’s not to say that it’s only good for Catholics. I find quite the opposite to be true. One of my best friends at UD is a protestant, and she has never felt unwelcome or stifled at UD as a result of the Catholic identify. UD students are eager to embrace people of all sorts and engage in intellectual conversations about different points of view. No matter what denomination a student is or what beliefs they hold, they benefit immensely from a UD education because in their classes they learn fundamental truths about the human condition. All students are required to complete a core curriculum of classes that study texts that are fundamental to Western civilization, including works by Homer, the Greek playwrights, Dante, and Milton. UD also has a campus in Italy, just outside of Rome where students can spend an entire semester. The Rome semester is a perfect complement to the core curriculum, and the students get to travel both as a class and individually. I went to Germany, Spain, Ireland, France, Hungary, Greece, and different parts of Italy in the span of a semester. So students leave UD as well-educated, worldly people. These are the kinds of people you will find at UD. The social scene is not the same as one you would find at a huge public university. It’s a different atmosphere because the school is small, but there are tons of opportunities to have fun. UD has some awesome traditions and there’s live music on campus almost weekly. It’s not the place for everyone. The university is quick to admit that. Students at UD are dedicated to learning and thinking critically, along with enjoying life along the way. If that doesn’t sound like something you want to do, then UD is probably not for you. For students that want that, UD is a great place to be.Amanda Kitten

To say that the University of Dallas was just another college experience severely understates the plethora of opportunities and unforgettable moments that shared during my four years of undergraduate study. UD is an excellent Catholic liberal arts school in the heart of the DFW area. Each student has an unquenchable thirst for knowledge while also possessing a propensity for building fellowship, both academic and social. The full time faculty are required to obtain the highest degree in their field (most often PhD), thus ensuring the rigorous academic standards of which UD is so often known. While studying, I was blessed with the opportunity to study abroad in both Rome and Costa Rica, both expanded my intellectual horizons as well as fostered my personal growth as a young man. My fellow classmates helped push me to be the best version, intellectually and spiritually. The community here is something that lasts long after your four years. Though University of Dallas's student body is 80% Catholic, I have never regretted going here as a non-Catholic student. Contrary to what some of the reviewers below have written, professors and students for the most part are open to other ideas and beliefs. The professors here are excellent for the most part, though often difficult. UD's Rome program is rightly ranked one of the best in the nation, combining challenging and relevant academics with lots of travel time and great class trips in Italy and Greece. Camping in Ireland and Wales over Ten Day (spring break) with some of my buddies was one of the greatest experiences I've ever had as were our trips to Greece, Pompeii, and Poland among others. Overall I would say UD is great place for anyone who wants a thorough and excellent education in the liberal arts and who wants to get to see the world in one of the most fun contexts possible.Alex Macdonald

All involved are motivated, pleasant people to be around, work with, and assist. I see a lot of reviews saying this school has a beautiful campus and amazing reputation, which it does. Also, the professors are amazing and the students are very bright. However, the administration and politics within this university is abysmal. Little to no information was given regarding registration for after being accepted into the university for graduate students. When I called and emailed the school, I was transferred numerous times to numerous departments because nobody knew how to answer my question or who could answer it. There seems to be little to no communication between departments. Parking doesn’t exist between 10am-3pm. With how much the cost of Parking, housing, and tuition has increased over the years, I expected improvements in the facilities and organization within this university. I have seen little to no change. Student life is also quite mundane. The university clearly does not strive to encourage an active and engaged student body. The university’s events such as weeks of welcome and guest speakers pale in comparison to every other university in Texas. This includes universities such as UT San Antonio and Texas State, which are significantly cheaper and smaller. Considering UTD’s notoriety for having the 4th most unhappy student body among universities in the country, I’m surprised the administration can turn a blind eye to student engagement. I feel like I’m just a dollar sign to this university after 4 years as an undergrad and 1 year as a masters student. I would not encourage anyone to come here.Ann Ma

Absolute terrible staff. Attended this school for 1 day. Went to the office and dropped the ONE class i had the FIRST day for financial reasons. I get a bill 6 months later for $800+. Apparently the one class was $4000+ and i was responsible for a percentage of it because according to their records i waited over 3 weeks to drop? This place is a scam and if you need anything done like this be sure to keep your paperwork and names of people you talk to. Its a relatively young school, so the facilities are still very clean and at night, the campus almost looks like a block off of a futuristic city. The school isn’t too bad. You have some teachers that are good and then there are some that aren’t so good . I definitely suggest researching your own teachers. The advisors in the Education department are no help, I’ve literally gotten everything from my classmates. They don’t suggest classes , give updates or anything. You ask a question they can’t answer what you ask they’ll give you everything but what you asked for. The advisors make the school look very iffy. And I can honestly say, because I haven’t had a good experience with the Advisors it makes me not even want to get a Masters Degree. They’re supposed to be there to help and they don’t help at all . We went on a campus tour because my oldest is looking for a Master's level program. The staff was friendly, helpful, and responded to our questions in a comprehensive way. The counselor talked with my daughter individually and provided tips for formatting and completing her application. The library is beautiful, and I love the way they have married the old architecture with the new. It was also nice to see a wall of diverse and influential women in the student center as an inspiration to the young women and men they serve. My daughter loved the campus and the staff, so we will see what happens.Annissa Macon

Went to this stadium on a sold out day. Worst entry experience I have ever seen. The lines to get in were crazy long. We were late to get into the game because of it. Concessions are at least a 30 minute wait. You would think when they know it’s going to be sold out that they would prepare ahead of time. Absolutely no preparation took place to prepare for this many people and it shows. Bathrooms are disgusting. Seats are basically all bleachers. Hate so much when we have to play here. Texas Wesleyan Law School–clone! Don't buy the name. Texas Wesleyan University law grads built the school. The law school website has a school history section–but–it is superficial–representing 27 years–not as a and m law school. Now, Texas A and M wants it both ways–distance from those who created the school. No recognition to the twenty years of TWU law students who now hold a diploma of questionable value. Yet–they petition TWU law grad donations on behalf of A and M (oh–yea–audacity) and continue to highlight the careers of many TWU student grads as their own pride and joy (is this not crazy). This university has fallen into what is now a growing fascism in public college education. When A and M acquired East Texas State University diplomas were reissued as Texas A and M Commerce. I have a relative who's ETSU doctorate was re-titled: Texas A and M Commerce the degree was earned in 1981. From admissions site: "ALL DIPLOMAS WILL READ TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY – COMMERCE WE NO LONGER PRINT EAST TEXAS STATE UNIVERSITY ON YOUR DIPLOMA." (not the case with TWU law grads–orphan status). TWU students paid big bucks and studied (same books presently used and many of same profs) and would like their identity back. A and M carries a big whoopin stick to beat back TWU law school rife raft (sic). Thanks! But–spend a $100k on tuition/lost income etc. and A and M tells TWU law grads to stick it. We made the school what it is (TWU grads) A and M you are meanspirited. Seems they use a different branding scheme when a state school is absorbed into their state network. The irony of it all –the teachers of law- show their hard compassionless spirit. How would they feel if one earned a degree only to have it obliterated in favor of A and M's financial ambitions. Our children are in the 6th grade at the Academy and have been students here since kindergarten. I am a former teacher, and cannot imagine a better way to do school than the Academy way. Our kids' learn in a completely different environment than I ever experienced in my own education or even as a teacher. The small class sizes mean each of my children are given personalized attention – specific to challenge their strengths and help them where they struggle. They've been allowed to advance to higher grade levels in some courses where they have a particular affinity and excel. The project based learning model that is incorporated in most if not all classes has them so engaged in learning that I'm not sure they even realize how complicated the concepts are that they are mastering. From what I understand, the teacher poses a question, gives some basic parameters and the kids go from there with the teacher acting as a mentor coming back with more challenging questions. This is not group projects like I've ever seen before! Technology has been seamlessly integrated and embraced at every grade level. They aren't being taught how to use tech – they almost instinctively know that, but they use it to enhance the learning, and to connect with a global community of learners. If you haven't seen the school's videos on You Tube, check out the one on a Cricket in Times Square, and you'll see my kids' 3rd grade class exemplifying both the project based learning and the technology integration. Socially, my kids each have their own friends and the whole grade feels like a family of extended cousins. There are so many opportunities for leadership development at every level – all of the things you'd expect, but then some really unexpected ones like an egg drop project where the 3rd grade creates a project management team for the event and the 5th grade learns the science for the actual egg drop. There's probably a video of that somewhere, too. Since 5th grade both my athlete and my not previously athletic child have played school sports in each season. They both love it. We have great coaches. Every player gets to play and the virtues of team work and good sportsmanship are the focus. Its been a joy to watch the kids who are great athletes work with those who haven't played before and celebrate every small victory for their friend. This is probably much more than you wanted to read, but I can't say enough about how incredible Fort Worth Academy has been. Its a hidden gem. You won't get a better education at a bigger school, and the K-8 model has significant benefits over K-12. You really need to visit the school.Linda Kennedy

We came to Fort Worth Academy because our preschool director recommended the school for our son. We could not have landed in a better place! The small classroom sizes really make a difference; no teacher is overwhelmed by an oversized classroom. The smaller size of the school enables our children to know and be known by everyone so they are very comfortable there. The lessons are very relevant to real life, practical, everyday living experiences. The ELI Initiative program (Entrepreneurship/Leadership/Innovation) is making a difference, as evidenced by our ten-year-old daughter. She prepared a presentation for us on why she needs a cell phone, complete with Powerpoint slides, graphs, benefits for us, cost, etc. We were so impressed by her unsolicited initiative! For those who are concerned that this school is K-8th Grade rather than K-12th, I would say that part of the reality of life is that students must move from high school to college anyway. Changing schools for 9th Grade will be good practice and good experience for the student. And I am confident that the preparation that our children receive at The Academy will ensure they are ready to move up. We discovered Fort Worth Academy by accident while reviewing another perspective, educational opportunity for our children. Our first meeting with the Head of School was a friendly and refreshing encounter. Right away we were impressed with his professionalism. But, most important, we discovered he cares about education and educating kids. There's no better feeling knowing your kids are in the hands of someone who cares and is deeply committed to education, in general, teaching your children in particular. We also loved the small classroom environment. I think the student to teacher ratio is 12:1. That's important for one of our daughters who enjoys talking to her teachers. Socially engaging her teachers is her way to processes information. At other educational institutions, her friendly personality is penalized. But at this school her chattiness is channeled in the right direction. If you want a school where the administration and faculty care about the whole child while maintaining a competitive academic experience with a personal touch and high parental engagement, look no further!Lionel Bailey

I love this place. I have been by a couples of times to check out their live sessions, which are amazing. I also volunteered for an evening at their annual glass pumpkin patch! It's such a great location with so many wonderful folks who just want to get folks involved in the arts. Their method is glass. They're a 501(c)3 non profit and do a lot of great stuff in the community. They offer drop in classes if you want to check something out. They also offer so many events. So be sure to head to their website or just go in and check out their world class gallery and chat with whoever is there. You'll love them. Wow what an incredible evening! This was so amazing! The whole class was well run. The instructors all knew exactly what to say and demonstrate so that I felt confident to try this experience. They complimented me in such a way that it felt genuine and they were excited to share their art with me. These people are true artists and I highly recommend taking a glass blowing class here. I cannot wait to pick up my bowl and paper weight. They are going to be on display for everyone to see. I cannot wait for my next class in december to make Christmas ornaments. Fantastic experience taking a class here! Canaan was an excellent instructor and lots of fun to work with. His assistant instructor Madeline took photos for me while I was learning! Christian was great at explaining what was going on while we were observing. Highly recommend!
