If you are looking for a university that constantly drops classes without notifying you and consistently mess up your financial aid and student loans, then this is the university for you. I have never dealt with such an unorganized and incompetent higher education facility. If I were not so close to reaching my end goal with my education I would transfer. If you are planning on taking courses at the HEAT Center in Aberdeen through Notre Dame, such as myself, don't bother because courses are rarely offered there and I have had 3 courses in the past 2 semesters that were to be held at the HEAT Center that have been cancelled and I was never notified by Notre Dame. Now they have notified Fed Loans that I graduated in August when I have not completed all my coursework. Talk about unorganized. I don't think I have encountered one person on the administrative staff that seems like they know what they are doing. I can say my professors have been good; however all of the negative encounters I have had with administration has overshadowed those positives.Kelly Borowiak

This review is of the Entry level BSN nursing program. To be fair, this institution actually has a very good nursing program. The culture of the environment however needs plenty of improvements. This nursing program lacks cultural diversity and sensitivity. The nursing program and it’s educators still caters to the program’s largely Caucasian student population. All of the full time professors that lecture are white with the exception of one Indo-Caribbean professor. This has created an environment of both intentional and unintentional biases, which has also created an open tolerance for racial and ethnic prejudices that should never be acceptable or tolerated in an educational environment. The nursing program would greatly benefit from including an office of Cultural diversity and inclusion to better accommodate and nurture its students from different racial and ethnic backgrounds.Beautiful Life of B

Notre Dame of Maryland was the last college I visited, but the first one that felt like home. I'm only a sophomore, but I know that I made the best decision because the faculty, staff, and student body make this place so great. My professors are always available and helpful, which is great in a pinch, and living on campus with my friends is the best thing I could have asked for. The programs create something for everyone (as seen in my own dorm!) with one roommate as Pre-Pharm in the 3/4 year program, the other currently applying for the Nursing Program, and I'm applying for the 5 year MAT program for education. I realize that my opinion can't stand for the whole school (chemical engineering​ 2017), but having held a student job that allowed me to see a lot of the behind the scenes stuff and was part of a department that was in the midst of a lot of changes, I do think I can offer some insight. First, unless you're a proactive genius who wants to do research their entire life, don't bother coming here. This school doesn't care about industry or the jobs it offers. This school talks a lot, but doesn't follow through very well. For instance, the higher ups tend to be good, but the people below them are horrible. The career center is a joke, the admin people are flakes who pretend to know what they're doing, and the professors are very hit or miss. How this school got "best undergrad teaching" is a mystery to me. The only good majors are comp sci and bio. The rest of the departments, especially mine, are either full of hot air, stupid in their decision making, or just plain lost. This university attracts a lot of insanely bright students to their undergraduate program and the stem majors would suck without them. God knows the STEM majors don't get genuine help from their professors. I had to go an extra year because of the negligence of my department and two of the many professors that left during my time were upset and thought I should have graduated a year earlier. I almost transferred twice. My department, similar to many others, don't have any connections to companies in industry. This school also hates transfer students despite having a lot of them. Don't expect to finish any degree in 4 years if you're transferring in. There's no social life here because the school is filled with pasty nerds. This is the worst school in the state of Maryland (and possibly in the US). Several buildings on campus are run down (the Sondheim building has even had asbestos in it). The quality of the food is poor and it's overpriced. The social life sucks. It's not a well-known school outside of Maryland. And most importantly, classes are insanely difficult (especially for STEM majors). The classes aren't designed to weed out the slackers. They're designed to weed out the people who try their absolute hardest (and sacrifice things such as sleep and a decent social life) but can't keep up with the immense workload thrown at the students and/or approach assignments with the same exact mindset as the professors. Exams are geared less toward understanding important subject material and more toward deciphering what the professors are actually asking. This school is nothing but a weed out school. I know students who are very intellectually gifted yet still struggle with courses only because of the professors. Almost every professor, by the way, couldn't care less about students and (one would think) they take pride in handing out bad grades – maybe because it inflates their ego of "how brilliant they are compared to others". One more note on the courses – for many courses there is one week between the final exam and the last normal exam of the semester. The biggest mistake I've ever made was attending this "school". I can honestly say that attending UMBC feels like a form of imprisonment. I can't overstate how much I truly despise this school. Please don't make the same mistake I did – go to UMD, Towson, or really anywhere but UMBC.Bucky C

There are a lot of great things about UMBC, the career center is great and there are some top-notch professors. There are some problems though. One annoying thing is they nickel and dime you for everything. Parts of the campus are run down looking and they wont go there during the tour. Most of my professors have been good but my girlfriend who is an art major has had more than one professor that just had students watch online videos instead of teaching them animation topics. -Library carpet is worn out -Chairs in library are so gross your arms stick to them -ITE building has chairs with foam falling out -You must pay to play ping pong or any game in the "game room" -The billing dept gives you very little time to pay the bill and is quick to issue an expensive late fee -Social life isn't great on campus Another thing worth noting that has unfortunately been getting worse is UMBC's leadership imposing their political motives on students through 'updates' on current events. Updates are fine but the vocabulary used in some of the 'updates' is disrespectful to some students who don't agree with the same viewpoints as 'UMBC leadership'. Let's stay professional UMBC cut out the political BS or we will end up like Berkeley…John Park

If you are in-state, you are fool for not applying here. Out of state, students should also give it a run. I’m a Ph.D. student School of Business in accounting major, I’ve been at this university for only one semester. I have left since then, becuase of what I went through. Work load is extremely high, and the disrespect that me and my classmates got from the professors is unbearable. Don’t even give it a slight thought of applying here.USA

Education major. I enjoyed my classes and the instructors. I overpaid for what is really a worthless degree because school districts do not want experienced teachers. The issue is experienced teachers have higher salaries compared to new teachers. So while the university can claim a certain job placement rate, the situation changes after a few years on the job. Considering all the money education students have paid Loyola University Maryland, I have never heard about Loyola lobbying for better working conditions for teachers. That's crummy. Every entity wants to take, take, take from education majors but never give back to help our community. I had to pay for my own teaching internship. I thought that was normal at the time, but it's not. Other majors get paid to intern. Do not waste your money on an education degree. Enter teaching via Teach for America or Urban Educators instead. Or better yet, avoid the profession. Please check into the turnover rate.Share D

From the perspective of an African American student, I want to warn potential minorities. I did not experience a really good first year at this school. The professors are not as great as they have told you. At least for the freshman year. A couple of the professors I had, never returned papers and won't send emails. Many times they would change the syllabus and give you last minute assignments. I struggled a lot even with all the extra time I spent on all the classes and getting tutored. This disappointment I encountered has occurred to other freshman students as well. Don't be fooled by the lovely campus now. That's what drew me at first. Not only am I transferring, but soooo many others are also. Be far warned and save some money also. Side note, many Class of 2020 freshman have experienced some unpleasant people. My son is graduating this May and we were extremely pleased with the college. The campus is like a park! My son put a great deal into the College and got back what he put in, a great education, great experiences, a great professional network and great friends. The private school setting adds the lifetime camaraderie. It's small enough that you can actually get to know your professors, yet big enough for professional opportunities. Being in Baltimore and so close to DC, you cannot lose for internships and jobs. Good luck to all! Horrible institution. DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD HERE. The entire college is just a money making scam. They don't care about your education here or your rights to an education. The administration is awful and has no clue what they're doing. If they don't like you for one reason or another they will begin targeting, harassing and attacking you until you get out of their school because they don't actually want you there. They aren't innovative or friendly, all they do is falsely advertise these things. Half of the people who enroll here as a freshman want to GTFO and transfer someplace better at the end of their first semester. This college depresses the students who live on campus. Only send your kids here if you want to waste your time, money, and degrade your child's mental health. Your time and money could be going to a better school that actually cares about the well-being and education of your child. Any school that you choose WILL be better than Goucher College in every aspect, even a community college. Again, DO NOT GO HERE if you don't want to waste your own valuable time and money. This is an excellent college with outstanding professors who want to know that you understand the instructions/lessons, retain what you were advised, and use what you were taught. The campus is breath taking…you don't mind studying while laying outside on the grass and listening to music or just the winds. The grounds are immaculate. The food is even great. Want to wonder off campus??? Well, feel free but security is "always at the entrance" to assure that students (and associated staff/faculty/friends) are the only ones on campus. It is not only a safe campus but you truly feel secluded from the world when you are there. Great location and quiet campus; friendly security guards, maintenance & cafeteria workers. But…Dorm doors are not always locked. Security gate is a joke. Technology is outdated. Grass not cut as often as it should be. Scarce parking. Classrooms are a lot like high school. I am very disappointed with the overall experience here. The advisors can schedule appointments and be a no-show and the administration makes excuses for them. The truth of the matter is they honestly really don't care about your academics, your work or in fact YOU. It really is a persona this administration puts on. Someone wrote a review stating the school is good for you as long as you are doing well and that you are doing your part……thats pretty much any college you attend to AND that has given UB room to not be accountable for their tardiness, lack of engagement and no show gimmicks these people do. All of the advisors assigned to me have been horrible and dismissive. Instructors as well save 1 instructor I had to review as outstanding. A complete waste of my money and debt. It is also no place for a born again beliver in Christ as this school is completely anti-christ and you are HATED and accused of being hateful because of the truth. I transferred here after finishing at CCBC, that transition went smooth for the most part. I liked my time here and I graduated. The location is good, right at midtown. Its not all the way into the city which made the drive less intense as a student that commuted. The class sizes were small to medium, not very large which I liked. Evening classes worked well with my full time work schedule. Most of the professors I had were great and also like how they offer career search assistance and workshops both as a student and alumni so some of the services dont stop because you no longer go to that school. The new library looks nice. By the time they redone that building I already graduated so not sure how nice it is inside but from the outside it looks great.S

I received my Master's degree from UB, graduating in August of 2017. After going to undergrad at a university in PA, I can honestly say that my UB experience was much better. The professors were top-notch and actually made themselves available to students. Not only did they help me with my coursework, but they actually took the time to talk about career advice, job searching, and networking. None of this I received back in PA mind you. UB offered many things to do as well, from lectures, guest speakers, and volunteer opportunities. I would go back to this school in a heartbeat. Human Resources at this school is utter nonsense. Totally wasted my time – called me out of the blue for an interview because they had just had someone resign. Never mind they rejected me for the position I actually had applied for weeks ago. Freida Johnson, the HR 'specialist' who spoke with me over the phone was very rude and seemed only to care about getting down the list of the dozens of other people she was enlisted to call in desperation. She also seemed very unimpressed that I wasn't beaming with enthusiasm over the prospect of a part-time, temporary job. Still, she told me I would hear back within one business day to have an interview scheduled. Did not hear anything back. Wrote to her and was told 'We will let you know if we need you to come in." I then wrote to the vice president and director of the human resources that I was unhappy with this type of treatment. The director, Laura Rossi, wrote me back a disgustingly recycled piece of bureaucratic jargon, essentially excusing everything they did, not addressing the unfair nature of it, and chalking it up to being a misunderstanding (on my part of course). That's one way of addressing critical feedback you clearly don't want to hear or deal with. It's peculiar she denied basically everything this incompetent Freida Johnson did, and then contradicted it all by saying they never commit to onsite interviews! Maybe you should tell your employees not to end the conversation with, "Someone will get back to you within one business day to schedule an interview." Will never give this place the time of day again, and certainly hope this serves as a warning to NOT DEAL with their corrupted HR department!Suzanne Fine

My daughter attended MICA and earned a degree in Photography. Her degree required an internship which MICA advertised they would help her earn. The help consisted of providing a list of newspapers to contact. Ultimately she found her own internship and it was worthwhile but they did not live up to their end of the bargain. They also provided no assistance in finding a job prior to or after graduation. Just recently she applied for a position at MICA and was rejected without even an interview. If MICA doesn't respect their own degree enough to at least speak to an alumni then why would anyone else. It is a very expensive college – save your money and send your child to a school that cares.Yvonne

After reading a very interesting article in the Baltimore Post-Examiner titled "Bolton Betrayal: A Deli’s final days with HBO’s Veep and House of Cards" I would have to investigate this school further. A senior administrator apparently stealing a students idea via privileged information he got from his position at the College. I can not say if it speaks for the whole school but it would certainly be something to look into if one was thinking about the school. Integrity is very important. If you have a disability be it learning or physical Towson University has no support nor sympathy or understanding for you. Instead, you’re given corporate lingo about how they are “so sorry” while giving suggestions that are either no help or useless for you. Clarification and appropriate communication is perhaps the biggest problem I have experienced with this university. Especially during the pandemic. Moreover, if you’re a person from a low-income or poverty stricken household just avoid the university because a majority of the amenities the school offers are unaffordable. In addition if you have Foodstamps or Snap it’s not accepted at school stores. It feels as though the university punishes people for being poor and/or disabled to the point where if you’re suffering from mental health problems it’s only going to get worse. Transportation and parking are terrible too. Buses aren’t big enough to support a majority of the students. If you’re disabled and you have trouble walking around and think it’s better for you to drive don’t especially if you’re a resident. You only get one one parking pass and unless you’re commuting to campus and buy a core parking pass you should be fine. But if you’re a resident (especially disabled) then the option to drive and park at the campus garages are not available. Overall, Towson university is not a disability nor low income friendly school. Not once since I’ve been here have I had a moment of peace without fearing that my car would be towed, my disability would worsen, or that I could relax because there is always something going on that made my stay here uncomfortable and my anxiety at maximum level. It’s a good University, and food isn’t really a problem if you aren’t picky, but parking is so terrible. During operating hours, most commuting freshmen are forced to park nearly a 25 minute walk away from their classes. Apart from that, Premium Housing being in West Village is cool and all, cause it’s like a little village really. Restaurants, a dining hall, several housing options, and a commons that is very lively in warm temperatures, but then you think about the terrible walk from west village to your classes. 15 minutes everyday. And in the winter??? Or in rain??? Oh nah. Obviously it’s not going to happen, but i think the best premium for premium housing (apart from your own bathroom) is being located in the center of campus for ease of access to everything. The Glen Towers really nail that. Sucks they are built like high rise prisons.lane karabani

So it has a lot of things going for it but parking is a nightmare and overcharged for faculty and students, and they care way to much about looking good. That being said my best opportunities have come from here, it has a beautiful campus, and the Glen woods is just amazing. Disgusting how they experiment on animals and owls. This university is abusing owls and animals in such cruel ways that should not be supported. They do it in a way that is just horrific and torture these living being with feelings. Anyone that supports this university is disgusting. Drove the campus of Johns Hopkins University in an effort to find the world renowned medical school. The campus is quite dispersed and the drive to the Edward D. Miller Research building (Johns Hopkins School of Medicine) was through not the most affluent neighborhood so it was in quite a contrast with the school! I do not know why patients considered this to be one of the best hospitals/clinics in MD. The Doctors assistants are extremely rude! They don’t listen to your statements or look at any of you diagnosis before giving their opinion. If you are “physically disabled” this hospital is not for you! You will have to be given pacific information to this clinic and it will give you your letter of Necessity. All Mica grad courses are here including some undergraduate Studios. I take grad classes here as an undergrad. this place is great studios are big and well ventilated lots of space to meet and hang out in between classes the lecture hall is good. The gallery in the lobby is one of my favorite on campus and Nancy's is a great cafe in the building.Molly Kaye
