20 Best Medical Assistant Programs In Indianapolis, IN (2022 Updated)

Please do not attend this school for it's transition to teaching graduate program. The professors did not prepare for their classes and provided low quality education to the point that I could not justify continuing with this program after paying in over $4,000. When attempting to get them to appeal the final $800 for the semester I left the program they simply refused to give any leeway or acknowledge and error on their part and sent me collections with an additional $350 fee. With no recourse beyond their own appeals process that unsurprisingly found no problem on their end, all I can do is complain on their review boards. On the plus side, the do have a beautiful campus and I can not in anyway speak to the quality of their undergraduate program.Daniel Gore

While well established as a great Franciscan university, Marian remains up-and-coming in terms of their MAT program for teachers. I had a wonderful experience in terms of the contacts made and networks formed while attending. However, much remains to be done to increase the rigor and requirements for that particular degree. Still, Marian University will soon open the second medical school in the State of Indiana. They are also adding a seemingly much finer tuned doctoral education leadership program.Tim Lankford

Here visiting for a campus tour with my daughter. So far what we have seen is amazing. Marian University is a great place. The buildings are contemporary except for a few historical sites that were preserved. Other than that, it appears to be a great place. The people were friendly as we visited as well. Definitely live on campus if you are looking for the full college experience. I've lived here for 3 years as an undergraduate and the facilities are very nice and the people very helpful. It's easy to find a job through the university and the research opportunities in science blow many other universities out of the water. Scholarships are also abundant if you know where to look and ask around. Professors range from fantastic to poor like at any university. I believe there are over 300 organizations and clubs to get involved in and always neat things like movies playing, dances, carnivals, etc, you just have to know to look for them. The campus is beautiful, especially in the spring and summer when the fountain is going and everyone is lounging outside. IUPUI is what you make of it, and getting involved is the best way to experience it.Amber Goad

I've had a couple of lousy instructors, but for the most part I really enjoy the instructors I've had. I'm learning a lot of important information that will help me as an employee. I am currently a junior at IUPUI. Year after year I am always excited to come back to school! The campus is modern and in the middle of the city! There is always an event happening somewhere on campus, so you are always having the college experience. I love IUPUI and I think that it is the best university ever!Payton

Overall I am satisfied with Ross. I don't appreciate that they couldn't keep an instructor for my Anatomy class. It made my learning experience a little difficult have to continually train new instructors and then instructors having to adjust and figure out how to do the job. Communication among administration was somewhat dicey when I first started but has since gotten better with changes in staff in that area. I feel they were very accommodating when things weren't going well in life outside of school and I really appreciated that. Overall I had a pleased with the outcome of my program though in some areas it was a bit rock.Emma Sanders

The instructors are great! And are all very fair in various ways. I have highly enjoyed my time here and have learned so much and look forward to learning more out in the field. overall my experience at Ross was good. throughout the beginning it was a bumpy start due to all the teacher changes and being unorganized. It also seemed like a lot of rules were changing in a snap of a finger and that didn't give us much of a heads up. one day homework is due at 9:15 then out of nowhere it was due at 9:00 without a notice for example. On the brighter side besides the rules always switching up, the teachers are great! wouldn't have done it without Bristol and Misty!Cailey Gladieux

My experience at Ross Medical has not been a very good one. The teachers are inadequate and choose favorites, the entire experience feels like being back in elementary school with constant little lectures about the rules that you have already received at the beginning of the program, which they take class time out of at the beginning of every mod, which is a month long, to do an entire presentation of them again. If they know your current career, they stereotype it. If you have previous medical experience, no matter how small, they assume you know what you are doing and don't spend nearly as much time with teaching you properly. If you have no medical experience at all, they baby you and watch you every step of the way, making you practice more than everyone else. If you work in a field like fast food, restaurant, or other job they will tell you that you bring the smells of the job with you and you need to take more precautions to not do so. They are incredibly biased and uncaring, and they have favorite students and students that they continually single out that they don't like. Overall, the entire staff is over-opinionated and like to stereotype each and every detail of your life outside of school. If you join, don't tell them what you do or you'll be singled out! Not a school I'd recommend to anyone to go to.Rather Anonymous

I have loved my experience here at ROSS so far, my instructors are amazing. Everyone is so supportive. The classes are small. I really get to learn in a way that I enjoy. I do think that the dental classroom needs to get some things that the instructors have been asking for for a very long time cabinets, fixed ceilings, just little things to make our classroom flow better. I loved the teachers that I had they really taught me a lot. There are some things that I think should be run differently. I think that some of the staff need to stop and think about the way that they talk to their students and the things that they say. I am a little upset that they are going to take over a week after Mod 5 ends to get our grades when any other mod we would get them within 2 days after. DCF is amazing! I started this program back in March and have learned so much in the 12 weeks I have been here. The instructors Rich and Jeananne are awesome. You can really tell they want you to succeed and even continue your education. They push you to be your best and always are supportive and positive. I actually landed a dental assisting job before I even graduated, so it all really paid off. I am so happy I attended this program. Everyone has been great. Attending the Dental Careers Foundation of Indianapolis was exactly what I needed for myself and my career. It’s an accelerated 10 week program that teaches you the fundamentals for dental assisting. The staff and faculty members are wonderful and really want you to succeed! I found a job I love a month within graduating. It’s a hand on and class room setting. I was never a student there but do have an experience I would like to share with anyone thinking about going there. In 2014 I cosigned on a student loan for $8000 so that the student could graduate. Three months after she graduated she defaulted on this loan. Lincoln Tech Accounts Receivable contacted me as the cosigner and was demanding payment. In order for my credit to not go bad I agreed to pay on this loan. As part of paying on this loan Lincoln Tech agreed to provide me with a printout of all the payments and a copy of the loan agreement once the loan was paid off. Kept my end of the agreement and made the last payment in May 2022.I have been in contact with several employees of the campus as well as the accounts receivable. No one so far has followed through with the original agreement that was made in 2014. I am thoroughly disappointed by the way Lincoln Tech has handled this and notlived up to their agreement. I feel that this is a huge example of their lack of professionalism as well the fact that they do have these repayment reRichard Arndt

It was a great experience to be able to set up a table for the Spring Career Fair here. I was a recruiter with UPS & we had a wonderful time talking with their students! All students were professional, polite, & knew what they wanted out of their career. It was set up & run wonderfully. Restrooms and parking were very easy to find. Lunch was provided for employers and it was delicious, I was happy they had meat & veggie options. Our one suggested improvement would be to have more trash cans available. We had a great experience on 10/7/2022 at a Job Fair that our company was invited to hosted by Lincoln College of Technology. As we pulled in we were greeted by staff and our table was waiting for us. Great looking facility. The Dean of Students was kind, answered our questions and thanked us for coming. Donna, the director of RESQ was my instructor for Insulin training and Jenny was my QMA training instructor. They are amazing. I loved my both trainings at RESQ. I learned a lot and I did great in my both State tests. I am always happy to recommend and refer anyone who needs these trainings to this place. And if I need more training in the future, sure RESQ is my first and only place I get my trainings. Wish they had LPN or RN program that I take. I took the 8 week course for the QMA program. The teacher was fantastic and both the Zoom classes and In Class classes were easy and engaging. This courses gives you everything you’ll need to succeed in the courses it provides. Only downside is state tests off of outdated information (2003). So you’ll have to differentiate the material needed for state testing and when you work on the job in the current year. There is a payment program for those struggling to pay the full amount at once. 10/10 would recommendDylan Everett

I have really enjoyed the time I’ve spent with RESQ. I completed my CNA training with them a year ago and I just now completed my QMA here as well. They know their stuff. Our instructor was wonderful and knows her stuff. The owners are great and they go out of their way to make sure we were over prepared and successful. I'm not in the medical profession but my fiance is a nurse and she only buys from here now. I have to say I get it now! I went in with her today when she was looking for some additional scrubs and was impressed by the huge selection they had in the small sized storefront. This was way overshadowed by their fantastic customer service though. There were two different employees that helped at different points and they were both incredibly kind and helpful. They were so fast getting new sizes and styles for my fiance to try on and they were so knowledgeable about the different brands and their tendencies to fade, shrink, and whatnot. Even more of a testament to their customer service was when a pretty rude customer came in. The one employee who was working at the time handled it incredibly well and kept such a polite and helpful attitude. She was able to juggle that customer and still take care of us faster than we even needed. And on top of this, my fiance said this isn't even out of the norm! She said every time she has been here they have been so kind and extremely helpful. I strongly suggest that if you are in the market for medical clothing you come give them a try. Their quality and selection is enough to earn your business, and the fact that they are a local business makes it that much sweeter!Matthew Baer

On my first visit, I was greeted within seconds on entering the shop. Before I could make it to the center of the shop, Elaina was searching for scrubs in my sizes and the colors I needed. I was treated as if we were in a high-end boutique! All of the associates helped me with making my selections. I was amazed at and grateful for the excellent service I received. During my second visit, because they kept a record of what I bought previously, Tatiana made suggestions for me to try. I was in and out in less than 10 minutes!! Prices are great, less than what I found online. The selection is vast. And my size clothing is not in abundance. But I have multiple sets of fashionable scrubs that fit perfectly! Seriously cannot say enough good things about that locally owned store! I spent the day searching for scrubs for my new job, not liking anything I found at the bigger chain scrub stores. I (luckily) found Scrub Identity on Google and let me tell you- as weird as it is to say you have a go to scrub store, I've found just that! It was nice inside, clean, and had so many amazing options to choose from. The girl at the counter helped me quickly find what I needed, pointed me to all her best suggestions, and sent me on my way to the dressing room. This place is a joke! I went through the interview and testing to get into a program, but they never reached back out. I was told they would give me a call to let me know either way, if I got accepted or not. I took the testing, and waited and waited. Never heard back. I reached out NUMEROUS times, left voice message after voice message and no one ever returned my call. They preach about how important it is not to miss class and how dedicated you have to be if accepted. What an example they showed by NOT even reaching back out. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL!Christina Nieves

I had the pleasure to speak with Ms. April Garton, a career planning specialist at Empire Beauty School on Southport Rd. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to enroll at this time due to the classes being full, but I really enjoyed my meeting with April! She was very informative, professional, and fun. I came in with a full page of questions and she answered all but 2 by the end of the tour. I toured the school and I must say it was bigger than what I thought it was going to be! I was able to meet my instructors and even able to have a little conversation with a current student. 10/10 would recommend going to Empire for your beauty education, not only did it feel like a family but the perks that come with being an Empire student/alumni is amazing. Such a wonderful experience. Krislyn was my stylist and she did a wonderful job. She took her time and listened to what I wanted and the result is a beautiful new hair color. Indiana School of Certified Nursing Assistants provides a rigorous accelerated coarse to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. Hannah and Carissa do an excellent job of preparing their students for the program exam and state testing. Even with previous experience in health care I learned new things every week. If you're looking for a jump start to your career in health care I recommend attending this school as it opens many doors. I highly highly recommend planning ahead and having your ducks in a row as it requires a lot of time and dedication in such a short period of time.Olivia Adkins

DO NOT work at this place! Dr.Pike did not treat me fairly at all! He wasn’t nice or friendly towards me and never took the time out to get to know me as a new employee! The facility is not properly staffed at all and he expects the little staff he does have to covid test 100 people a day! People are constantly upset and angry at the staff because they schedule covid test appointments over the phone and end up waiting outside in their car 45 minutes to an hour! It’s ridiculous. Dr Pike never helps his staff answer any phone calls , covid test any patients , nor does he try to make his staff members job any easier! If anything he makes it harder! As a boss you’re supposed to be right on the front line with your staff , but he is not! His Human Resources manager Laura Wilson. Is very unprofessional and rude , upon hiring me she made me feel comfortable enough to confide in her about any issues I may have on the job. Once i did decide to confide in her , she then decided to use it against me and totally disregarded my feelings about certain problems I was having with certain staff members. On top of that she then proceeded to tell me I was wrong for how I felt and told me I don’t have to right to say anyone or anything made me feel that way. When this was MY personal experience being there. In her conclusion with my probation period, I was sassy and discourteous. Her and Dr. Pike fire me both two months after me being on the job but im discourteous??? Fired me at the beginning of the new year with my 1 yr old toddler at home but im discourteous?? This place is strictly unprofessional. They hire new staff every 3 months of them being there just so they can use them! Thats why everyone in there is fairly new and barely knows what they’re doing which results in chaos and the place being unorganized. No one in there knows what they’re doing expect maybe two or three people. The rest of the staff is young and new! This place will forever have a big turnover!!! I had positive and negative experiences during my first visit after reserving a time online. The clinic is clean, the staff are friendly, the PA was forthright, and the service was efficient. If not for hearing a male MA joking in the hall about the reason I was there, I would have given it 5 stars. It's unprofessional for a staff member to trivialize the reason for a patient's visit, especially when the patient can hear it. Patients don't come in if they feel a matter is trivial. Nonetheless, I will return in the future if needed.Joan Watson

Blown away by my experience at an urgent care. Everyone working, from check in to check out were amazing. Good attitudes all around, kind, listening, and supportive. Didn't wait long at all and felt like the MD was there to spend time with me and help. Also clean location, felt comfortable. Hello everyone, I went to this school for EKG and Dana was my teacher. She was an amazing teacher, she took her time explaining everything to us and even took the necessary steps to re-take the NHA test for us just to prepare us for the test. The one thing I did not care for about the school is I feel like we were all over priced ($1600) just to meet up for one day a week and we only got one uniform shirt and nothing else was included. The lady that sat at the front desk to collect our money was very mean but overall Dana was a great and highly recommended teacher! But again the price was overly expensive plus we had to buy our own books and pay for the NHA test and I just feel like for the price we were charged their should have been way more included then what we received. I attended Medical Carer Academy back in junky of 2022 and I attended the EKG program I must say that my teacher Ms.Dana was amazing she definitely had her lessons planned and set for us each week. She went beyond and did zoom calls to calm all our nerves for the NHA test she made she that she took her time explaining if you had a question or couldn’t get it she allowed time out of her day to let you stay after class while she explained it one on one with you my classmates were also amazing we all encouraged each other through the course of the class I would love to have Ms.Dana as my teacher for a different program. I took the EKG class with Dana last October and she is one of my favorite teachers I have ever had. She can tell when we are confused and finds a different way to explain things. I am currently in the Echo program and feel I am getting a very hands on experience. Any questions I ask are always answered. I have been to the bookstore in downtown Indy once and I prefer to place my online order for books at this campus 100%. I live in Noblesville..So it is much more convenient and I recommend ordering online.Of course If you know your course number for each class you will need a book for or in my case I send the teacher a quick email prior to placing my order to male sure i have the right book. Staff is friendly somewhat…and tries to be helpful. It gets busy with the nursing students picking up scrubs and other medical supplies.The manager was not very nice to them. I have yet had problem with any of my orders (4 to be exact) since my 2 semesters at ivy tech. I also returned a book I no longer needed for one of classes and they helped me In less than 5 minutes. Just make sure you have your student id# (C***) along with your ID to pick up orders or return. Hope this helps!Jennifer Mejia

As long as you are smart enough to review teachers before signing up for classes, you will do great. If you have a problem, go to campus, and they will take care of you. This program is beyond amazing from beginning to end. I was a little nervous being back in a class setting and dealing with “Ratchet” ppl but it was the complete opposite. Shawnelle has her classes small for a reason, you can really understand, pay attention and ask any questions (even the ones that sound dumb). She is a Very very understanding instructor and she will work with you to get this class completed but only if you actually want this. she will laugh and joke with you all day if you want but she will get business done and tell you what it is. Completing this class has given me the motivation to do more than just stopping at a CNA and Going to class I was able to obtain a better job from her recommendations on her bulletin board and now that I’m certified I’m moving up and all I can say is thank you because she helped push me to my goal . I was extremely nervous to enter into a CNA program. I had looked at trying to go to the one at IVY TECH but decided I didn’t want to go that route. Then I saw the flyer for Star Training. Going to Star Training to become a CNA was the best decision I made. The learning environment was great and the instructor really cares about all of her students individually. Nurse Practitioner Lucas Teel saw my husband today. He was told of issues as advised by my husband's therapist in order to receive the aid of medication. Not only did NP Teel not have much of a conversation with my husband, if he had he'd know that my husband has had issues with this type of medication before, he also only listed of the men sexual side effects and none of the others. Compound that with the fact that the medication prescribed has a major drug interaction with a medication my husband has been on daily for around 7 years. I don't think I would want this man taking care of any living creature I didn't want dead. I also was highly disappointed in the call center. When I called upset about this issue, the woman on the line blew off any responsibility that NP Teel had and put it all on the pharmacy and the insurance to be sure to catch it, contact the prescribing party, and affirm that they want to take the chance at killing a patient by giving the medication. Great care IU. Glad our normal doctors are not at this office. Now I realize why they always have last minute availability here. Update: Missed the office manager's call. Tried to call back. Sat on hold for 15 minutes before the call terminated and never reached the office manager again.A R

Lucas Teel, NP was excellent. I came in with a really bad lower-back ache that was really debilitating. My fiance had to help me tie my shoelaces as I could not even bend down or forward to do so. The friendly staff there at Artistry set up my appointment for the following day and that is when I was seen by Lucas Teel, NP. He quickly determined what was causing my back pain and prescribed the right medications. Soon after I started the treatment, the pain started to subside – much faster than I thought proportionately speaking. The pain was just overwhelming that I literally thought it would take months to go away. Instead, it has taken just weeks and the improvement has been remarkable. My personal experience today with Dr. Lucas Teel was very disheartened. I went in pain with what I thought was a spider bite around my eye. I received no specific advice regarding a diagnosis except give it approximately 2 weeks. Within approximately 5 minutes I was walking out of his office . He never touch or examine the area of the eye and stated since I would be seeing my eye Dr. On Tues. Perhaps I would be better served. Very disappointed with his approach. This is a case whereas my insurance company SHOULD NOT be billed.Emma Johnson

The school itself is decent, my only issue is with the payment. I gave the school a voucher worth over $1200+ dollars to give me a decent education, well after being out sick & other issues too personal to mention, I was kicked out and they claim I owe $1800, so inaccurate the fact I gave you more than half the payment on the 1st day.Jasmine Woods

I loved my time there with Ms. Kelly. She was an amazing teacher. I didnt know much at all be for starting class, with her as my teacher I am happy to say I passed class and externship with flying colors. Would recommend class with her to anyone and everyone.Dee Dotson
