11 Best Masters Programs In Allentown, PA (2022 Updated)

The Campus is clean, and well maintained. The food isn't too bad. But aside from these constants, you will have a different experience depending on your worldview going in. The theology and philosophy courses you will be required to take will be authentically Catholic, which will either encourage or enrage you depending on if you are a practicing Catholic or not. Other general ed's will be standard, but sufficent. DeSales University is going to be a decidedly different experience depending on your major as well. If your major is in the arts and you are a practicing Catholic, you will have a tough time since most of the people in that major will be agnostic or atheist (and professors may be geared towards that). However-the actual theory and practical application of the discipline you are studying is going to be very good and useful. The people you meets will likely be very nice, and you won't have a tough time finding friends if you try. The faith life of campus is pretty good, with various to groups to encourage you. There's a small community of students who attend daily mass, which is always a help. The Mass itself however (Sunday and weekday), leaves a bit to be desired. The music especially will sound a bit 1970's, instead of having the timeless characteristic of a liturgically accurate mass. Gregorian Chant or Polyphony would sure help here, but the choir director is a protestant at the moment (for some reason) so that is unlikely. All in all, whether you are a practicing Catholic or an unabashed pagan you will have some issues with DeSales, but the academics themselves are good and you will likely be prepared for your field upon graduation.JP Kloess

It seems incredible that they are a university with "Christian principles" and today February 22, 2021, they announced a snow day and did not cancel classes or offer them online to students who commute to campus. My daughter is in college and she cannot come back to my home because it is snowing very hard and she drives a small car that cannot be driven in the snow because it may cause and or have an accident. You should be more empathetic with the students who commute. It seems that they are only interested in the money and not in the lives of the students. And now you close campus at 3:00pm and my daughter can’t drive to my home. Who will solve that?Wanda Rodríguez

Enjoyed a few Basebal Games. Not a bad seat in the house. When One arrives at The Stadium Complex, there's an opportunity to watch Men's Baseball or Women's Softball. The fields are "SUPER" nice. They are well maintained and down right beautiful. Bring an umbrella for shade. It can get a bit hot. This is a "GREAT" Family Event. Unlike other places, there's NO COST to get in. Parking is free , however it can get a little tight w/ games going on at both fields simultaneously. This being said, If you're a Baseball Fan, it's an experience to be had. Visit soon….. First of all, I have no connection to Cedar Crest College. I did not attend school nor do I know anyone that attended school there. On June 7 2018 I made a journey to the Lehigh Valley to photograph the campus of Cedar Crest College in Allentown Pennsylvania. I was inspired by a vintage early 50’s video of the school that I saw on YouTube. When I arrived I was not disappointed. The campus is so well manicured that it almost seemed like I was exploring a country club. Parking was easy and the campus was easy to find. My self-guided tour took me to all points on the campus from the aquatic center to the Da Vinci Science Center. I would like to come back to the science center when it is open. The centerpiece of the Cedar Crest College campus is Blaney Hall. The historic old building photographed well and it is surrounded by gardens in bloom. I saw the theater, cafeteria, and the art gallery. The art gallery is open limited hours and I was not able to go inside. The theater was also closed but the cafeteria was open for business and the prices were great. Cedar Crest College is 151 years young and it is truly a gem in the Lehigh Valley.Richard K

Honestly the worst school for nursing. So many people get kicked out of their school for pointless reasons. You have a better bet going to a different nursing school in the area. Cedar Crest nurses are always unconfident even when they are knowledgeable because of the environment they’re put in. If you ask working nurses in the area, they’ll tell you that they’ve only heard horror stories from Cedar Crest. People only look at their pass rate, but not their drop rate and how many people they let go for nothing. They have to take proficiency exams every semester and have to score 90% or higher on things they have not been taught yet. Go to a school that doesn’t have that! More than four professors have left within the last year and there’s a reason for that. Some quit in the middle of the year!! All the students will tell you that there’s always broken or used equipment and that the staff never values mental health of their students. Students are expected to be at a doctorate level and teach themselves. This school is extremely unorganized and there are other places that respect their nursing students and encourage teaching!Emily Snyder

I am afraid of my daughter committing suicide over this school!!!! She is so stressed and anxious because they only care about the money. When over half the class fails a test it’s not the student as much as it is the teacher!! Barely anyone gets through the nursing program without failing… a few times!! She is in so much debt but I cannot talk her into transferring because she would have to start the program over! They expect the best of the best out of the students but have the worst of the worst professors!!! They should be ashamed of themselves! They do not tech you. They expect the students to teach themselves and to know what they are doing. If the students ask questions they are made out to feel stupid. I am a 1983 graduate and I felt that my educational experience at Muhlenberg was excellent. It is academically very rigorous and challenging, but also socially responsible while providing a very family-like atmosphere. I have had opportunities to go back to the college recently and the changes to the campus with the new buildings and facilities along with the academic upgrades were truly impressive. Muhlenberg to me should be high on anyone's list looking for a top notch education in a supportive, tight knit academic community environment.Anthony Ware

Makes enrolling for adults extremely stress free, always friendly and willing to help with any issues, and open later than I would have expected if you need anything. On Friday May 31 2019 I did a self-guided tour of Muhlenberg College. I was impressed by the building's architecture. Every building has a red door. I wondered what the significance of that. Only my third month here studying the Medical Assistant program and I can genuinely say I love this school. What makes this specific Lincoln Tech amazing is the staff, never a gloomy day. I've had three different instructors and they are great, super personable and humorous, it really completes the learning experience. Coming from a 2 year gap of not being in school, I was afraid of how I would transition but they made it very smooth and fun. You get to meet relatable people that are in your situation as well, thank you Lincoln Tech, I cant wait to graduate so I can have nicer things to say about my experience.Diana

My time at Lincoln Technical Institute has been great. The teachers form close relationships with the students and personally help every student strive to be better. The small classroom setting and accelerated course can help you form close relationships with fellow students who will support you along the way as well. The facility is kept clean and tidy, and the bathrooms are nice as well. I love Lincoln Technical Institute! I love how the faculty and staff are always willing to go out of their way to help out all students in any way that they can. They offer free tutoring for anything you might be stuck on. If you’re transferring here you’re going to have a rough time. It’s likely that at least one or more of your credits will not transfer to this institution or the credits will not equate to the same amount of credits necessary to fulfill your degree requirements. This means you’ll have to take a few more classes and spend a bit more than you would normally have to. Additionally, most of the classes are six week courses – not full semester courses. This would be fine however, they do not allow you to take more than 5 classes per semester (including six week courses) meaning that in each half of the semester you’ll be taking about 2-3 classes instead of the standard 5 despite paying for a full semester. Due to this, I’ve had to take multiple semesters of summer classes when I really could have made up those extra classes that didn’t count towards my degree during my last semester.. I’ve never failed a class in my life. If you are enrolling over the summer (which you’ll likely have to if you’d like to graduate on time) you’ll be spending an egregious amount of money. You’ll be charged a $200 summer enrollment fee, and I believe it’s around $600 per credit. I’m taking two half-semester (six week) art classes right now. It’s costing my family $4,000 in total for this summer alone. Additionally, it seems like the advisor council may be quite unorganized. On many occasions I’ve spoken with my advisor (they’re really nice) and asked exactly how many classes I still need to graduate – they could not once give me an answer to this question so my real graduation date is a mystery (never failed a class btw!). I’ve also been told to take classes that I’ve already taken by them to which I need to remind them that I HAD taken them previously. The campus is also much smaller than most community colleges. There’s barely any student life stuff going on and most of it is at 12pm. Sounds fine but almost all of the classes in my degree take place after 4pm. It’s lonely as heck. If you’d like to graduate on time and have summers to yourself, I’d recommend applying elsewhere. The only reason I’m giving this a 2 star is because the professors are really nice. I’d recommend not asking them about the field of work that they teach in though. A lot of them cannot or will not answer after-class questions that apply to the real world.Mariella Esposito

Attended the reception of a Parkland Art League show juried by Ann Lalik in the Ronald K. Dealing Gallery at Penn State Lehigh Valley. The gallery was perfect for easy flow of visitors with excellent lighting on all the various surfaces. The Lehigh Valley MSW program through Marywood is a great addition to Marywood's satellite campus. We are located at DeSales and this is much closer than commuting to Scranton for a 1-3 hour time frame. I love that it is close by, and that we are a close knit community. I enjoy the smaller environment, and the perks that our program has to offer. I recommend getting involved in LVSA to make your time even more worthwhile while a student. Being involved keeps me connected to others, especially since we don't live on campus and just commute for classes and then go home. Being a part of the LV Marywood community has been a great bonus for me as a graduate student. I've noticed graduate school is much different than my undergraduate education, but I have a love of learning. Our program director at the LV campus- Christina Gigler is fantastic. She is very approachable, friendly, and wiling to help students in any way she can. I am so happy to have had the opportunity to be a part of this program, as well as be a part of LVSA for 2 years.Lindsay Glass

*** Buyer, BEWARE! I do NOT recommend this organization/company if you’re expecting professional, respectful, or fairness from the staff. I had a rough year with the loss of a mother and sister and multiple other family matters. They do NOT communicate with you other than to ask for referrals. I got to my last two exams, paid the usual payment via phone, waited nearly a month for an booklet/exam and never received it. I emailed two separate individuals and never received a response. I called and explained that the representative said the exam would be mailed and the balance of $29 wasn’t due until later when I was ready to complete the final exam. The person I spoke with was NOT understanding and simply wanted payment for the final exam THAT DAY before I could receive the booklet/exam. I paid the fee immediately and was told it would be mailed immediately (as in the past years). Nearly a month later and it STILL has NOT arrived. Again, I sent emails with only one response that was cold, unprofessional, and rude. And, of course, only offering that I pay, yet again, a fee for the final booklet/exam. I’m highly disappointed in this organization/company and I cannot help but feel treated as “less than”, feel taken advantage of, and frustrated that I’ve come so far only to be discounted. *** Buyer beware: No, DO NOT believe all the hype!Clean Cleanest

Don't fall for the down payment, then monthly payment plan. They only release content when payments are made. Which they do not disclose prior to setting up your payment plan. Had I known that, I would have just saved my money and paid in full. Then, when you do make an advanced payment, it takes 24 hours to process…so you're literally always waiting for content to be released. I was quoted 2-3 months from start to finish, that was clearly a lie. Buyer beware! You'd be better off going to your local community college.Stephany Keita-de Queiroz
