The teachers are great and the campus is nice but trying to get financial aid during COVID is impossible. The financial aid advisors are rude and don’t seem like they want to help you at all. Just because of this reason I will not be recommending MHCC to any of my friends and would suggest to go to Clackamas Community College where they are much, MUCH more helpful.Dima Poperechnyy

You have to take the bad with the good. There are some great people who work for this school, then there are people who could care less bout you and your education. They make you jump through hoops and pass you around with little to no help. As an adult student using the GI Bill, I think this was the perfect way for me to get back into the swing of college again. The instructors are way overqualified in most cases, and I think it is shameful that most of them have to work at multiple colleges in the area in order to pay their bills. The cost for students is a great value. The buildings have all been updated and I think are great. I really enjoyed coming here. I ended up with 2 associates degrees when I left here. The cafeteria when I was here was not good. Horrible food that was too salty for the most part. The section that helps Veterans maneuver the funding was questionable at times, but the area for Veterans to hang out or study was pretty darn awesome. Parking can be tight depending on the time of day.Andrea F

The Oregon City Campus is beautiful! The one stand out regarding education at CCC is the faculty care about their students. CCC is also the most economical Community College in the state. Some points of interest would be the Environmental Learning Center. What a fabulous place to view wildlife, native plants and meander peacefully around the paths. Parking is close. You can meander another 2.1 miles around the perimeter of the college on a wide path. Most is paved, the remainder is finely crushed compacted gravel, so pushing a pram or pulling a wagon full of little ones is easy. Many spots are shaded for you true Oregonian 🙂Karen M

I'd be very wary with this school. They don't pay the teachers for their full work. Instead ONLY pay them for the time they're with students and none of the prep. I don't know how this is legal, but it's robbing the students of an adequate education, and exploiting the teachers hard work. High turn over rate. The place is poorly run and managed. I am the parent of a student. I am very disappointed in the graduation venue they chose for these students who have worked so hard. First off everyone is talking through the ceremony, the sound system horrible, and awful old school auditorium. How disrespectful to the students to provide such a venue. I went to the Nursing program here after being CNA for several years, attending the program and getting licensed was the best decision I have ever made. The professors and instructors were very supportive. I was in the dental assisting program. I had the best experience with Carrington College. I had an amazing instructor, Mrs. Rochelle and a awesome career advisor, Tim. From the moment you walk in, you feel welcomed. Sam, at the front desk, was always great. She cracked a joke every once in a while which just sets your day off right. Lectures were very informative. Mrs. Rochelle has a background in dentistry and in public health, so it was a great experience learning from someone who knew what they were talking about. She will always work with you and set you up for success. Tim is the kind of career advisor you need as you are heading off to your externship sites, he will work with you, answer your questions, he is also honest and straight forward. If you’re considering coming to this school, please save yourself the $17K! Im currently a 2nd term student in this school. However, our teacher left as soon as term 1 was completed. Today, I have been in my course for a whole term with NO INSTRUCTOR/TEACHER. We are coming to campus twice a week and still learning nothing or comprehending the work. We been bouncing in between instructors for other courses who has no idea what we should actually be doing. Im considering withdrawing and pursuing my reimbursement. Wish I had done more research about this school. I contacted all appropriate people, admins, deans, supervisors. Nothing has changed, empty promises of “someone filling in or actually teaching the class” nope. Still no one and it’s been over a month. I start the MA program on Tuesday but everyone has be SO unbelievably helpful from the first phone call til now. I never thought I’d have a chance to go to college, my parents didn’t talk to me about it or encourage me. I finally decided it was time and Courtney made me feel safe and confident that I’d be successful. Fast forward to orientation, I had a leg injury and was nervous that I’d stick out. This was the best decision I ever made. I won’t lie, cost is steep, and it’s hard to work throughout parts of the program. However, if you’re considering going into the medical field, respiratory therapy specifically, this program is top notch. The director and instructors are amazing and if you put in the work and show up, they will be there for you every step of the way. It’s not an easy program, but it’s not impossible and the staff truly wants you to succeed. It takes hard work, dedication, and always being willing to learn; but it is so worth it in the end. I can’t speak for any of the other career fields, but the RT program is by far the best in the area. AND they do everything they can to help place you in jobs BEFORE you even graduate. I just finished the DA program at Concorde and it was an amazing experience. My Instructor Alyssa was awesome and truly helped me learn so much. She is such a welcoming and loving teacher who truly wants to see her students do their best. The program director Lindsay is wonderful as well and is always able to help whenever I have a question or even if I just need advice. You can always tell when Lindsay is around because she brings happiness and energy wherever she goes. She is such a hard worker who loves what she does and cares for each student so much. Steven is also an amazing person to talk to on campus. He goes above and beyond for his students and is always a friendly face to see on campus. I received amazing customer service from the college. They had the answer to every single question I could possibly have. I was greeted in a timely fashion. I went through all steps of admissions and sign up. Their campus is fun and interesting with a great crowd of people. I am wholeheartedly excited to get to participate in education with this Health and Human Services college. Covid had been difficult on everybody and during those times it really weighed in on our professional service establishments. I just completed my CNA2 certification class with Linda Schneider at TLC Education (aka Holgate Center). The nursing teacher was Ginna Vickory. Both Linda and Ginna were phenomenal at what they do. I learned so much and had a great time doing my clinicals at Providence Portland. Both Linda and Ginna were very informative and patient when it came to teaching the class and they both were genuinely concerned in helping further our careers in healthcare. I attended nursing classes hosted by TLC when Linda Schneider was running the Portland Community College CNA program. Linda's CNA programs are well structured and set students up to pass state exams for CNA licensure. Lots of my classmates have become RNs or gone on to work in valuable healthcare roles. This is a great way to begin a career path into healthcare. I would recommend this program as it is affordable and facilitated by working nurses on the Holgate campus with active SNF, ICF and RCF patients. Good luck! Instructors are nice, but it's really upsetting how they keep cutting class one hour to 3 hours short every day. One time the instructor cut the class almost 3 hrs short because she was tired. Another day, she said that she didn't have a good internet connection so she would send everyone a message, but she never did. Everyone missed a whole day and she didn't even message anyone to say that there wasn't going to be class. People request days off from work for what? So they don't even have class. Other times the instructor has left early just because she's tired ..and it's not just a few mins. It's always and hour to 3 hrs early. It's upsetting and especially because you still have to pay full price even though just the first week, students missed 9 hours of class!!!! On top of everything, you have to pay extra for cpr classes and your nar. It use to be included. It's fine, I'll pay what I have to, but stop cutting hours because that's not what we are paying for !!!!!! Today she let everyone early because she said everyone was tired, even though my son said he was fine staying till 1:30 like he was supposed to, but she said that no since she wasn't going to be there. My question is, why can't she stay till 130 like she's supposed to. I understand things are complicated with covid-19 going on, but they also shouldnt be sending students to clinicals when they haven't even done labs. They don't even want to give a discount for missing so many hours. I'm so upset with how irresponsible they are and unprofessional. Be ready to pay an extra 200+ on extra fees. For example 85 for NAC 85 for NAR and 90 for CPR. They don't even tell you from the beginning. They just tell you out of nowhere and their excuse is always the same "we didn't know". I graduated A couple classes ago. I thought that the instructors were nice. I passed the practical and the writing pretty well 🙂 I had a great class, we all helped each other with things we needed extra practice on. just make sure your on top of the home work and practices the skills, they’ll get you if you don’t Lol And I didn’t have to pay extra for my certificate. I know that one of my classmate had to retake a portion of another class because she’s missed to many hours. She might of had to pay for that? I took the cna class in January when dee dee was still there. Called today to see if lab was open and the front desk lady was rude. Didn't even give her name and then snapped at me when I tried to clarify what she meant. Classes were great and so is the instructor jenny. Absolutely loved my time at UP. I looked at a LOT of different schools in the NW, but chose this one. The campus is beautiful, especially in the Spring. The teachers are excellent. The class sizes are small. The courses are challenging. Fellow students are intelligent and social. And the soccer games are a blast to watch. When I think back on my time here, there is very little that I remember as negative. If you're non-religious, like me, then the Catholic element of the school can feel a bit restricting at times, but I felt it allowed me to explore spirituality in a way that a non-religious school could not have done. Since I've left, it sounds like things have only gotten better. They have remodeled the Engineering building (where I spent 90% of my time, senior year), as well as the cafeteria. I'm actually back for my MBA at UP now and I am reminded again why I love this school.Brady Prigg

UP is a great school academically. We have some of the best professors in the country and the classes are really great. Unfortunately there are several things that make me wish I hadn't chosen UP as my college: First, it is stiflingly catholic. Now I've gone to catholic schools since pre-school and never have I felt Catholicism forced upon me the way I do here. Next, residence life at UP is the most awful thing I have ever scene. They are ridiculously strict and like to think of themselves as your parents away from home. There are tons of rule, curfews, hall meetings, etc. A word to the wise, stay far away from Mehling especially (villa and Shipstad are the way to go). Finally, there is no social scene at UP. I wanted a small school but I realized this is too small and the school rules are too intense. Overall, I wouldn't recommend UP to anyone.Emily Strand

I really enjoyed my experience here and in the city of Portland. The small class sizes were a great fit for me and the professors, by and large, were incredible and supportive and worked hard to maintain a high level of academic rigor to help me hone my critical thinking skills. Additionally, the size of the campus is excellent for getting around on foot and there is a really nice view of the river from the edge of campus. This is also an exciting time for the school because they have recently renovated the library and have also just completed the new student center.Sal Liotta

I've just been trying to just get into their 1yr "Networking" program and it"s been nearly a month now, that's a month of unreturned messages, unanswered calls, constant miscommunications, having National American University's online pages either not work with the most common device platforms and/or browsers or just not work at all, and just, well… such a vast array of issues it's been like a really, REALLY EGREGIOUSLY BAD JOKE. With tuition costs ranging upwards of $1300 to $1400 per class (not including hidden fees & other class related charges and costs) one should really expect better than what National American University aparently has to offer.Bradley Colson

It's a great school, with a lot of amazing instructors. That being said, since COVID, it's been a little rough. I'm currently trying to complete my AAS in Computer Systems and Information, but it appears there are less classes available after the pandemic. I'm trying to get my full grants, but I can't because I don't have enough CIS classes available for my required credits. It's been a year since I went to school (after a smooth year attending class full time), and after attempting to get full time every term in that year, I've had no luck. Hopefully this turns around in the future, sadly it's still a tough go in the pandemic with class availability.Arthur Cornwell

Chemeketa Community College had an ASL "teacher" named Bobbi Bowman who was highly unprofessional. In class she repeatedly made critical comments about "all hearing parents of deaf children" (some of which were in her class trying to learn or improve their ASL) I hope they got rid of her because her bad attitude and ignorance wasn't helping these parents or their deaf children.Just the facts

They fish and bait their students for the Nursing Program. They promise you that you will have every oppurtunity to apply and yet a year and a half later of paying they have new requirments that require job experience and a certificate that will be useless in a Nursing Degree just to be able to apply. I really enjoy the online aspect because it gives me time to do things I want in my day and then dedicate time to school when it works best for me. As this is an accelerated program, about 7 hours of my everyday time is dedicated to my education. The labs help to learn our skills and getting a chance to see instructors and speak with them about material is very helpful. The program is expensive, but it is comparable with all other nursing programs in the Portland Metro Area where you can earn a BSN. I appreciate the accelerated aspect because in 16 months you will have your Bachelors degree in nursing, pass the NCLEX, and become an RN. Their pass rate for the NCLEX is 100%! It is slightly unorganized but they try their best to prepare you for this and stress the importance of being flexible. I know they are supporting me in my academics and nursing school journey and are always more than willing to help and provide any resources you may need. If you are a go-getter and self motivated student who can keep up with a fast-paced, self-taught program then this could be a great fit for you!Cali Cunningham

I'm so disappointed with this college. My experience with student services and some of the advisors has been terrible. I've sent my transcript multiple times, yet no one has any information about me. I keep going in circles and no one seems to know what they are talking about. How can I trust an institution that can't complete simple tasks and keep track of important student documents? I'm also wasting time and money taking classes that I should be able to test out of but haven't been able to because they don't have testing available due to COVID. The rest of the world is adapting so I'm not sure why this college can't get with the program. Seems like a good way to get more money out of students. Also, I believe because this is my second degree, I don't get priority registration for classes. I can't get into the ones I need. It's extremely frustrating. Overall I wish I would have applied to a different community college. The plus side to this place is the instructors. I've been impressed with the passion that they display. It's endearing. This review is not for my experience at PCC, which for the most part has been quite good. I've liked my professors, and have learned a lot over the last year. This review is for a recent experience I had with an advisor. I reached out to advising to discuss dropping out for the winter term because I contracted covid and homework was not something I could even fathom doing, and this was before my symptoms got as bad as they are currently. The advisor I spoke with, Leopold Hauser, made a great effort to tell me about how he was sick with covid and it just wasn't that bad blah blah blah blah. Basically giving me a huge middle finger in the face of what is now the sickest I've been in years. The fact that this man is advising people when he contains such little empathy is beyond me. If everyone at this school acted like Mr Hauser then this place would be out of business.Alex Weeks

So based on the recent reviews, I'm not the only one who has issues with the advisors. The lady I spoke to on the phone was rude. It didn't seem like she wanted to work or answer my questions. She told me it takes 4-8 weeks to get credit for my degree since I'm only doing a certificate while the course starts next week. So what is the point ?! If the advisor is my first look at the college, then pcc isn't for me. Train your advisor staff on customer service ! And maybe your prospective students won't be going elsewhere.andrea lee

Good teachers for the hvac class especially james. Kathleen was a wonderful teacher with good teaching methods in the technology fundamentals class. My only complaint is the support and the lack of efficiency by the charter college staff. What I mean is on holidays they will move your class to another day in the week messing with your work schedule and there will be no way to make up in class points which earn you the most points. Not only that but I helped my friend get set up at charter and like they did to me they rushed him into a class unprepared and did not help him or even tell him when he was scheduled. They told him he had class on friday and he actually had it on monday and tuesday and after he had missed the classes and all those points hes struggling and behind but no offer is made to make up the points. So after the charter college staff failing him as a student they pretty much just told him to figure it out even though it was not his fault at all. I am considering switching colleges strictly for the fact that the staff is unprofessional and inefficient. Also i would like to bring up that i was threatened to lose points for not wearing a charter shirt. I was told i would recieve them after my first module and then after my teacher warned myself and another student that we would begin losing points if we did not wear them we went to the office and they informed us we would not receive them until mod 5 or 6. You guys are taking our money as veterans of the armed service and frankly im disappointed in your school. I will however state again that the teachers are excellent and im saddened that they dont have a better staff to back up their great teaching styles.Cody Blacklock

I will start off saying that the two instructors I had are amazing, however, the management of this school is ridiculous. First of all, over half of the answers on the tests and quizzes are all wrong or they contradict each other from the text book. Many times during quizzes questions had to be corrected because they are false. Second, unless it it Covid related, you cannot make up a day of class. Got a cold? Can’t make it up. Baby sitter trouble? Can’t make up the class. Had to work? Can’t make the class up. Another student in my class got subpoenaed to court and he wasn’t allowed to make up the class he missed. Third, from the very beginning of my Veterinary Assistant classes the school told all of the students to get jobs in vet clinics so that way we could get paid for during our externship. (Which is 5weeks long and like 40+ hours a week all unpaid) right until the month before my externship, (I even had job interviews set up) they tell us that we are not allowed to be paid for our externship because it is a class and would not count. 9 months of telling us this, and then change their mind at the last second. Fourth, there’s no hands on training, aside from some laboratory work. Of course there is a lot more thats wrong with this school, but Jay would mean writing a book. I would not recommend this school to anyone, it is far to expensive for the amount of “education” you receive.Payton O'Neill

My husband enrolled here in their welding program and for nearly four months they taught him absolutely nothing about welding and basically ripped him off of his GI bill benefits. Two classes a week at around $200 per class and he learned NOTHING about the trade that he is trying to learn, they just taught him a bunch of trademarked FranklinCovey nonsense. Clearly they are owned by some corporation trying to eek out every bit of cash they can out of students before actually teaching them anything. I met with Heather Smith who cancelled our first meeting and that happen to pushed me out of the application deadline I will have to wait 6 months for the next round. She gave me the incorrect information on which room to meet her in and let me disrupt an entire class and instructor before pulling me out. She explained she knew she gave me wrong info. But never called and just let me go there anyway. After meeting with Heather for a short time she got up and advised me she would be right back. She returned with a advising business card and told me to get a job. Heather, with her middle finger, advised my family coach at DHS has no idea about PCC climb program and not to look there for resources. She didn't offer any information on adding credentials to become hirable or really any info on the program. I have never been left feeling so discouraged.Kari Culver

PCC Climb is the most unprofessional organization I have had the misfortune to encounter. Do not take a BLS or ACLS class at this institute. They pass people for any reason in the BLS program. Good luck getting into your ACLS class! When you arrive at climb there will be requirements that you were not told about during the registration process. I even called the night before to be sure. I was never told about the pretest. The check in clerk will insinuate that you are a liar and never called climb because you don't know the name of the person with whom you spoke. Thankfully there are other options for obtaining medical CME in this town. I will make sure everyone I come in contact with in medicine understands what this organization is like.
