After finishing the project, all the 3K bags were given for FREE at Kroger to encourage people to start using reusable bags instead of plastic grocery bags. Terrible business. They sold me books that I didnt need for classes. They wouldn't refund me nor buy the books back. MThey sold me a used loose leaf History book and my HIS 109 book was missing pages. when I talked to the lady just now, she wouldn't do anything about it, handed me one of my other books and said they have enough of them right now. She had a terrible attitude when all I showed was respect. I paid over $480 to this bookstore, all I got was disrespect and inconvenience. Solid school. Easy(ish) to navigate. Some of the buildings are far apart and depending on your classes you might have only 10 minutes to go all the way across campus. The staff is friendly and try to help anyone navigate the school, so don't worry! Each building is clearly labeled and maps are everywhere so it's hard to get lost. There's tons of socializing areas and seating for different gatherings. Some of the popular places would be the courtyard with the fountains or the large hill in the center of campus. The campus also has a variety of food options, so whether you want smoothies, coffee, pizza, pastries or a salad there are options all around!Zena Krimzon

They have no idea how to teach what you will need in the state of Kansas. They will use other professors lectures and do not want to answer questions or teach you. So yeah if you want to teach yourself from a book and have a bunch of assignments due constantly this is the place for you. Then maybe do some underwater welding I have not quite decided. If I do I have to take a scubadiving class to get certified in that. I went to Chesapeake after my service year in AmeriCorps which served as my gap year after high school. I studied Computer Information Systems: PC & Network Management and also took part in the Honors Program as well. The classes within my field always proved beneficial and relatable to what I do on the job and also paved the way for my certifications. The general education courses served their purpose and prevented me from having to take any other ones when I transferred. If you didn't get immediately accepted into a university out of high school or if you're a returning student, Chesapeake is a great starting location to start your studies anew.Aaron Wilt

They've got learning workshops and grant money for struggling students, either academically, financially, or both. When I went to University I never had something like this. Idk if it existed, and if it did, the University never advertised it for students. Also! This school has an amazing program for those who want to work with animals. The ZAS program (Zoo and Aquarium Science) is a 2 yr applied associates program and its goal is to get you straight into your career. They have terrestrial animals and an aquarium on site! I went for the IT area. Big mistake. They could not keep knowledgeable instuctors. Was told most would be online when enrolling and after enrollment only two classes was online. They kept putting me in classes that were to advanced like one or two classes should have been done before taking. I have a issue with walking due to a previous injury had asked for assistance to the buildings and never received. I ended up leaving due to the rude and not trained instructors and it being to much to make it up the hill to classes daily. This was in 2015, 2016.Marinda Carter

The housing staff is horrible, they have put 2 charges on my account and they admitted to not knowing how they got my name however they refused to take it off even when the camera showed I never stayed, 3 weeks later I spoke to Hr for them to remove it and they did it the same day. The other one was removed 2 weeks later after the payment date. I would also recommend you bring in your own food or check it before leaving the dinning hall. I found so much mold and was served under cooked to many times. The drinks apply as well check the ice whole before u get if there is black stuff around it use the other machines.(not sure if they are gonna clean up before the fall but there is also mold in between the soda machines) Not only the dinning side but be careful with the soda/juice in the deli side the they both are spoiled. And check the expiration date of each snack you do choose to take I had 3 month old jello and I still can’t get that’s fussy taste out my mouth. Either side will not hesitate to sell old milk or old food and bunch it all up to be given out on the weekends. There is a wëëd problem at this school as well so be careful because if anyone in your dorm doesn’t it you maybe be accused of doing it as well by the campus police. Not on to the professors, you need to hold some of their hand and walk them three days the grading process. I had 3 professors(1 was in person and the other 2 was online) last semester wait til the end of the semester to grade everyone from my midterms to out introductions at the beginning. For online teachers make sure you double check their comments after they grade and read up on stuff ahead of time so u can message them early because they don’t respond to message in a timely manner. Navarro College was STELLAR! As a former Bulldog, I'm proud to have called this school my home. Professors are knowledgeable and interesting individuals, the staff are all charming and helpful, and the atmosphere of the entire facility is one of safety and growth. Plus, Dr. Fagan (the man in charge of it all) is incredibly personable and makes a point of greeting and interacting with students every chance he gets! The staff at the Corsicana campus are very rude. Upon inquiring about something the registrar didn’t know about; she went on to yell at me over the counter while the lobby was full of other students. There are only a handful of instructors that are dedicated and willing to see their students succeed. I write this review with a very heavy heart, as I feel like the issues that have plagued myself and the important people in my life have not been improved on at MCC. Pros: MCC has an incredible range of teachers. The Criminal Justice instructors completely prepared me for transferring to a 4 year. They're so knowledgable in their field and love their students. I still go and visit them since they were so helpful and kind! I also like the variety of clubs they have at the school. There is something for everyone. Cons: This is where I get angry. I know so many people including myself, who have been swindled out of time and money by the counselors. They tell you to take classes, only to turn it around a few semesters later and say you never needed them. I spent a year and a half more there than I needed to, and my boyfriend has spent almost 2 years there more than needed. We were told we needed to take specific classes if we wanted to graduate, only to look at the actual 'planning progress' guide on MyMcc to see that there were numerous alternatives that could have been taken to receive the degree. Not to mention we both were never taught how to navigate the online planning guide, so we trusted the counselors for help. We've wasted thousands of dollars on classes that did not pertain to our majors. I would have spent more if I didn't talk to a teacher in my field, who gave it to me straight and helped me make a schedule of what classes to take that were absolutly necessary. I am still incredibly thankful, but it shouldn't be the teachers job to honestly help plan their classes. That's what a counselor is for. It still blows me away that after all this time this kind of behavior is still accepted. Bottom line is, if you're going here for a class or two for credit during the summer or in between semesters, go for it. If you want to receive a degree, be wary and trust your gut. Learn the (difficult) mechanics of the website, as it's way more reliable than any counselor.Natalie H

Edit: I'm updating my previous review but it still remains at a stellar 5 star. This is the best school I've been to. The people upstairs in Building A who run the advising and financial aid are mediocre but once you pass through that it is so amazing. I always register online for my classes so I don't have to wait in line. So if you like to be guided by the hand and told what courses you should take and not have to contemplate what you might like to take this is not the school for you. This is college, not elementary people, surprise! You actually have to think for yourself! (The audacity, I know) if you go in looking for private rich kid snobby type atmosphere where people carry you to wherever you need to go you're going to be disappointed. As far as instructors go, I cannot recommend MCC enough. Those I have currently, and have had in the past, go above, beyond, and well out of their way to assist students with material, so future students can rest assured that they will be in good hands. One thing I will say is, be ready to deal with ten kinds of attitude from financial aid, if and when you need to contact them. I've had to do so twice this semester – once for an issue they could have contacted me with when said issue happened and avoided the mix-up all together and once with a question about a grant I received – and on both occasions it seemed like I was bothering them. I got really snotty, condescending answers, so….be prepared to deal with that. I don’t even know where to begin with this place. First of all if you are considering going here you need to run in the opposite direction. I moved here from out of state and gave this institution 10,000 of my dollars just to be disrespected and ridiculed by the faculty and staff. My high school teachers were more competent and respectful than anyone here. The school is run down and smells like mildew other than the main building they use to advertise this place. I did not learn one single thing the entire time I was here and let it be known that I am now graduating to be a medical professional so I was not the problem. Be careful if using MYCAA to pay for classes, regardless of whether or not you submit on your end on time. If the school doesn't submit it on time on their end (as in my case) you'll receive a dozen and a half reminders that tuition is due (the school doesn't handle MYCAA and the funds get sent to the student to then pass on to the school and if it's not paid by "x" date at "x" time classes are dropped. No a good place to take a home inspector class you have 60 hours to read a huge book, and triton college push you to get brand new book but all the material they show you is from 1900, therefore the teacher encourage you to just read the book because their old material doesn't Match with the new book, nothing is updated. Clean, friendly, cool school. I was in the A building, the lady in room A126 was VERY nice and quiet since it was a testing room. They even have FREE feminine products in restrooms for women. I asked about future classes and the lady who helped me initially was VERY pleasant and turned her computer screen around to show me how to navigate the schools website!! Both my wife and I were returning college students and Stark State Alumni class of 2012. We both received a great education. She went for respiratory therapy and I went for Graphic Design. The graphic design program was wonderful. The professors were all very knowledgeable and really cared about their students (huge shout outs to Michelle Lash and Eugene Starr). The classes are small and it's very easy to schedule time with the professors if you need help or need to go over some things. It's also nice to have online classes if that's your thing. For the younger students (and older alike), Stark State also hooks you up with SALT at no charge after graduation, which is a useful tool to help find employement after graduation. Luckily I furthered my career without having to use SALT. The biggest recommendation I could suggest would be to offer more of certain classes. Sometimes only one class is offered a semester and can conflict with working hours. Thank you, Stark State and to all of my professors for giving me a great education and giving me a fighting chance in the workforce after graduation. For those who are seeking four year degrees and beyond, Stark State is definitely a great (and affordable) place to start.stephen slusny

I attended Stark State College a number of years ago when it was Stark Technical College. I am surprised by the negative reviews, because I had a great experience at the school. I graduate with a degree in Computer Technology, and the courses were challenging and taught me a lot. I still remember some of the great instructors like Mrs. McBride in my math classes. I even worked there part-time for about a year doing LAN Administration. They have provided me with a foundation for a very successful career in IT. I later completed my Bachelor degree at Kent State. I am currently completing my MBA. I was able to get a copy of my transcripts, even after graduating 25 years ago, by faxing in a request. I did this for two different Universities, and they arrived within a week. In this age there should be a way to do it electronically like Kent State, but at least they do not charge you for them. Overall I had an excellent experience and they prepared me for a very rewarding career in Computer Technology. I absolutely have no regrets about this school, and I enjoyed my time there.Kevin Frazier

I can not believe Stark State has less than 4 stars! This is my second semester and I LOVE it! The faculty are truly amazing and extremely helpful! This college also offers small class room sizes which makes learning more personal. Your teachers and professors always do their best to know each student by name. It is also extremely great for working folks who have busy work loads. They have many courses that can virtually work with any type of schedule. There are many success programs that Stark State offers, including assistance with any subject as well as a great Accommodations program for those with any learning disability/disability from minor to severe. Stark State also always keeps their students in the know through text message and emails. They give you the tools you need in order to succeed. Highly recommend this college!elisabeth brian

The medical[EMS] wing here allows injured students whom are not compatible with the requirements or functionality of the physical job requirements for that particular field. Although the Stewart's are head representatives of this college[President] as a married couple, they suppress the indigent students by not providing a job placement in the medical dictation fields after passing medical terminology and Anatomy & Physiology courses as possible candidates in the local hospitals as medical scribes. It is vital that NETCC(a tax payer college) model the First Amendment values they are supposed to be teaching to students, Today's NETCC students will be tomorrow's legislators, judges, university presidents, police, EMS, nurses, and voters, but instead they are sending the wrong message: that government can dictate that sharing the ten commandments and that Jesus died for them to be saved from the wrath of God deserves expulsion on the grounds that it hurts other student's feelings and that safe spaces are needed to also protect other students from freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and freedom of expression. Despite claiming inclusiveness and diversity as its core values, NETCC is failing to foster real diversity of thought and is, instead discriminating against Christian groups based on it's beliefs. A lawsuit needs to be filed challenging the school's assumption that it can expel student groups based on the belief that Jesus Christ is the only way to Heaven. It is a contradiction to NETCC policy for a teacher to discriminate based on religion. I personally was pulled aside by their medical director of the EMS program and told I was being expelled for hurting a student's feelings by sharing my world view, and then told by the teacher that, "Jesus Christ is not the only way to Heaven". It would be absurd for NETCC to require the vegan student group to appoint a meat-lover as its president. Lastly a good teacher that teaches EMS doesn't disrespect the appointment of men and woman who gave their lives as firefighters. The First Amendment dictates that the ‘marketplace of ideas’ on a public tax payer campus cannot prefer some viewpoints and cannot exile or denigrate others.Nor can the government force citizens to choose between exercising their constitutional rights on the one hand and participating in government-run programs on the other.” That discriminatory practice, however, became evident when school officials refused to discipline the Medical Director of EMS after an internal investigation and to expelled me. In this case charges need to be issued against NETCC and the staff. The school is favoring anti-Christian groups over Christian groups. My fundamental and clearly established rights under the First Amendment were violated by the staff and medical director of EMS at NETCC.Daniel Hamilton

The Director of the school's police Academy is a childish, unprofessional, prick!!! He soiled my name with at least 3 police departments because he didn't like me. He claimed I had a problem with my anger. His name was Richard Jones. Let me explain something about the Richard Jones situation to anyone that might read this review. Unlike many of the unsecured dudes that get into security seeking authority, badges, and a vehicle to drive their deep rooted insecurity I had always wanted to be a police officer. I grew up in the Stevens Courts projects in Texarkana, Texas and I will tell you right now that it is a misconception about the black community's view of the police. My community deeply admired the police. One of my mentors Texarkana, Texas police officer Presley as I remember would come to the projects, play football and order pizza with the young people. This forever changed my view of the police and from there I always wanted to become one. Furthermore my record has never shown any signs of me being an unstable person. I am a black man free of criminal charges and a criminal record. He decided to destroy my chances of a good paying job for my family and I because he didn't like me. Trying to get this story out there is long over due but oh yes I haven't forgot. I am currently working in the Private Security Industry but nearly finish with my Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice- I also a have a diploma completion in investigating crime scenes. Richard Jones and his academy is a non-factor in my life at this point but the fact that this was did to me has affected my career. BTW. I AM ONLY CLICKING THAT STAR TO GET TO THE PUBLISH SCREEN. This community college is not the best. There are some ups and downs. The professors barely help when asked, the administration kinda screws you over and somehow makes it your fault. Some of the online work is not the same as learned in class. When you write essays you have to use the sources from the online library the college provides and you're not allowed to use any other sources. Although if you do, you will fail. Their system is completely messed up and had someone else's credits show up as mine. I have taken several extra classes because I was told I needed them when I actually didn't. I have wasted my time and money. Try calling financial aid or student accounts and you know how living in purgatory feels like. I suggest you’ll go there physically even if you’re infected with Covid19 as you have a better chance of reaching them in person. If I could give this university a zero star, I would do it. As an international student, I have millions of terrible experiences with this university. The graduate school and the international students office have been really really rude. They will try to frustrate you using any way they could. Also, the insurance requirement for international students have been so unfair. They will charge you lots lots of money for the insurance for the summer time even though you are not enrolled in any classes during the summer. Also, the staff working in the graduate school have been so rude and know very little. Some of the graduate and undergraduate classes have been so meaningless and do not worth the money.yaqing cao

Atm a lot of construction is going around the university. Either adding new school building, dinning areas, or apartments around the school. The gym is great, great gym equipment, indoor track, and classes that you can sign up for if you do not like working out alone. Building are easy to locate but if you have trouble finding them people will be nice to direct to the correct locations. While this school is great, and I love being here… there are many issues with this place that aren't talked about. One, parking is hell. They sell way more parking passes then there are places to park. And since students are required to live on campus this is a major problem that affects the entire student body, faculty and staff. In the next few years this problem is about to get a lot worse, due to the merge with Northeast coming up. Two, while the food is often great, especially at the Grotto, most of the options are fried or greasy. It is hard to know what exactly is in the food, and athletes often complain that the options are too limited. If you have diet restrictions or allergies there is only one option for you, the Clean Plate with ZERO variety. Three, the health care here is horrid. Yes, the health center and counseling center are free for students BUT when you go there, the help is very limited. They provide you with supplements and nasal spray. That's it. And then, theres counseling center. They are great at handling homesickness, minor depression, and generalized anxiety. But they advertise that they also address PTSD, major depression, eating disorders and such. However, when you come to the person who is supposed to counsel you on Title IX matters, they tell you it's your fault. Also, the campus is extremely inaccessible for physically disabled individuals. The elevators are broken or breaking and there are barely any ramps. They only address two out of the thirteen categories of disability, that being autism and developmentally delayed. In addition to that, when you have a learning disability and are having trouble in classes they suggest you get a tutor and do not enforce adaptive curriculum. There is an ADA violation occurring right now that is not being addressed. Special needs professors have been lobbying for change for a decade and nothing has changed. When you have 504, they provide you with regular resources that the campus already offers, there are no individualized resources for those who require that sort of thing. The campus in general is very ableistic. They do enough to get the label of a special needs inclusive college without actually doing the work. Four, it advertises that it is extremely diverse. The Student union has all these flags representing all the countries international students are from, but you rarely see them around campus. These individuals are the hardest impacted by the insurance issues we have here, as they are often here on a scholarship and on an athletic team and do not have the funds for full coverage. Mercyhurst is below average in ethnic diversity nation wide. Racial diversity is also below average but real kicker here is 93% of professors are white. Five, Mercyhurst is advertised as a liberal arts college but the art departments are extremely neglected. The art department is literally one hallway with two classrooms and one office for professors. The art therapy department has one classroom and one office. The dance department has two studios and no trainer. And then, there's the music department. You cannot join the music department if you are physically handicapped because there is no way for you to get downstairs. And every time there is a performance, you have to carry everything up three flights of stairs to the PAC. Over all, while Mercyhurst is an amazing school that I am proud to attend, it has several major problems that NEED to be addressed. It's amazing at projecting a great image and at doing everything to have good reputation. We have two events every weekend, and public speakers and performers from around the world. The campus is beautiful when you go through the front gates. The curriculum is great for neurotypical students, and discrimination of LGBTQ individuals is almost nonexistent. Money management is also horrible, they spend everything on comforts and for their image rather than necessities.Katelyn Baughman

Love the people, love the rich history and most importantly love the education! Recent college grad and am very proud to be. Whether you need a shoulder to lean on or someone to provide a bit of guidance, you can find it all on this campus. There are so many staff members on campus who go out of their way to help ensure students have a memorable experience, too many to mention individually. I am however extremely thankful for the ones who had an influence on me. Shout out to the fantastic res life department, health center and hospitality department. Like any school it has issues that need to be addressed and fixed such as the lack of parking, some of the apartments and a few other things. The only difference is that Mercyhurst strives to make progress in every area it needs to fix. If I could redo the last four years again I wouldn’t change a thing or go to a different school because this was one of the best experiences of my life! Would 100% recommend.Daniel L

Loved our tour of this University! It has a "Harry Potter" feel to some of it. The campus is clean and well manicured. The people here are so nice. The buildings are up to date with some really cool stuff for learning. One floor has a real Harry Potter feel and a quick walk down the stairs and it's super high tech like Star wars. We loved this University and everything they offered. The dorms are spacious. Plenty of closet space. Bathrooms are huge in some dorms. The Church area is gorgeous. The "apt" type dorms need updated. This heartfelt review is difficult for me because I actually attended Alvin junior high and Alvin high school off and on throughout my 12 years. I love this town. I was happy to attend this college for that precise reason. However, there were many many obstacles I went through to get my degree here. Frequently, I had to wait my opportunity cost between a poorly taught class, and a class dedicated towards my profession. This should not be happening. Two things caused this. Professors who do not calculate the time required to perform homework and assignments out of class Is one. The second cause were professors who should not be teaching at all. They are either rude, careless Or have some type of issue within their person. Every semester I had a professor like this even after referencing rate my professor. Eventually because of this college hiring so many professors with personal issues it eventually cost me my accumulative science and math GPA to fall under. Consequently, I would not qualify to enter into university science or math department. Every semester on student loans, I worked 10 hours a day for seven days a week for two years. There should have been no reason why my grades were affected. However, how a professor teaches is one of those things that an individual has absolutely no control over. Because of the poor department management and analysis of teaching from professors by administrative, I will no longer be able to pursue the group degree I intended on pursuing. As a compromise, I had to apply for graduation for a general studies associates to leave this college peacefully, and it not destroy my loan approval or potential to graduate in four years. Best degree plans for this college are governments, English, etc. Stay at another community college for science and math because these departments are seriously on organized and not monitored.Shauna Herrera

Keep Alvin Beautiful greeted at the Alvin City Fall cleanup. Texas Pride and others showed up 2 collect all kinds of trash and recycle. Really impressed with everybody that I got to work with as they had a great attitude and even though most were new to the event they jumped in and made things work well. Really proud of everybody who participated and made this a great event and keeping our city sparkling Update: the EMS and police cadet departments pulled together to do a huge exercise for the training of their students. Using the building abandoned building across the street they staged a mass shooter that the police cadets had to take out and then they pulled in the EMS students to help pick up and treat all the wounded. Was a terrific activity and professionally done. Very fun to participate in as a victim. Update: we had the spring Alvin clean up and had the best participation ever. 151 people brought all kinds of trash, metal recycle, electronics, batteries, paper shredding, and green waste to be recycled. Great place to take classes. My son takes classes here in the summer to transfer to his 4 year university. He has enjoyed all of his professors. I like the school because they have a great enrollment process. They've got a waiting area and they call you up by name and clearly post your name on monitors. I only give 4 stars because of their police department. If you pull through a parking space-ticket. They watch every vehicle and the slightest parking lot infraction can bring a quick ticket. They're using it as a money generator. You've got to read their police handout. A lot of rules are in place that aren't posted and a visitor can quickly find themselves ticketed. We've switched to College of the Mainland and we've been happier.David Carlisle

I have taken all my college credits though Highland however the last two times have been a disaster. I did online classes and set up a payment plan, I paid off my tuition early but they didn't communicate with the 3rd party company so they tried to continue to charge my account. This year I signed up for an online class but they screwed up and put me in an in person class so I had to drop the class. I emailed to get my deposit refunded and cancel the payment plan and over a week ago and they're still taking money from my account. On top of that the communication is awful and online learning is cumbersome.Shawna Warren

Their prices were a little high for being a college in Kansas. I also didn’t like that the long distance learning program insisted that they sent you books and automatically added it to your tuition, because as many college students know, the $200 books at the book store are usually $15 to rent from amazonKeely Williams

A disgusting institution that literally steals and scams students out of their money. Promises to help and then no follow through. Their sports all suck and are a joke. As the mom of a college student who had to leave a private, out of state institution for medical reasons, I came into contact with BCCC when my son was ready to obtain further credits. The administration was so very helpful, from applying for appropriate courses, to registering and payment. My son has not yet graduated, but the experience at the local community college was excellent. BCCC also has programs in which high school students with special skills or talents can participate in college level work. Both the high school and BCCC were extremely helpful in this regard. High school credits were obtained with no tuition payment. Finally, I am a sunset photographer. The high hill on the campus overlooking the baseball field just off Swamp Road is a very nice vista for sunset shots!!Carol Geibe

First off the price is great. The campus is really nice. I liked the professor's a ton. There were some really good teachers. When I transferred out most of my credits went to Penn state without an issue. I see a few reviews on here talking about bad teachers. This is not a BCCC problem, it's a college problem. I had just as many bad teachers if not worse teachers at Penn State as I did at BCCC. Expect it, accept it, and work harder in those classes. It's only 16 weeks folks. If you are looking to see if college is for you or just starting back up with your education I think it's a great place to start.Mike Carson

The campus itself is clean and the security is friendly. As for the professors I had in my two year stint here, many of them were awesome people and very helpful as teachers. I feel I have learned a lot from having knowledgeable teachers such as Professor Beers in the math department and Professor Bresnen in the music department. All in all, for the most part the staff here seems to care about their students' success and I have had many more pleasurable teachers here than I expected.Dan

Horrible school. I attended the school for about 2 years and have a better experience at the DMV. I was told in high school by a Cincinnati State that my credits would transfer from Cincinnati State to University of Cincinnati seamlessly – they did not. In fact when I went to UC, they stated they could accept me as a transfer student but none, zero, NADA – of my credits would transfer. I applied to Miami University (Ohio) and was able to have 3 classes transferred. Miami was also cheaper at the time than Cincinnati State. I had to start all over from scratch after 2 useless years at Cincinnati State. The staff at Cincinnati State, including the teachers, were low quality. Staff seemed to brush off any concerns you have. Asking for help? Only the minimum is provided to guide you in the direction you need. Teachers mostly seemed to be low quality and bottom of the barrel – I only had 2 teachers that were okay out of 2 years. A few teachers I was able to show issues with tests or exams – although they agreed that I was correct at the time, one refused to fix the exam grades for everyone because "That is what the test key answer is and she would have to go back and regrade all the tests"… Sorry? That is literately your job… The next teacher could not understand the wording of their own test question that they provided (online) and would not correct the answer for the students. I communicated this error via email and was pushed away. I pushed back stating the teacher was incorrect and provided the work as to why the answer was wrong, in a professional tone. The teacher responded unprofessionally by changing the color of the text in the email to red, downplaying my proof, not using punctuation, and using unprofessional language. I dropped the class as this is not a teacher in my eye; but someone who is there for a paycheck. Cincinnati State had a graduation rate of just over 12% when I attended. 12% of students graduate from this school…. For the 2019 year it is now 17.9%. The odds of you attending this school for 2-3 years and graduating are very low. You are better off attending a real college if you are serious about your future. The overall poor quality as well. I have never experienced so many arguments between teachers and students in a classroom before. After class is over, everyone leaves campus immediately unless they have another class within the next hour or so. The current ad campaign that is on TV does not portray the school correctly. The average age of students is middle age. There is very few labs due to limited budget. Little to no student engagement events. Printers were not free. Book store was a COMPLETE ripoff, some classes did not require the book due to costs. Teachers would not communicate to students about schedule changes in tests and exams effectively for online classes (I missed my final Physics exam due to this). Save 2 years of your life and go somewhere else. I am not the only one with a really bad experience. If you know someone that attended or attends Cincinnati State, talk to them. You will typically find they did not graduate or they think it is okay but plan to transfer to another school before they finish. My experience at Cincinnati State was something of a mixed bag. I had previously attended a 4-year university but was seeking a career change. Given the low cost of attendance that community colleges provide, I figured that Cincinnati State would be a great option. My first year of studies were great. I had some very kind professors who genuinely cared about the students and the material that they taught. Some faculty members could be a bit rude at times, but that is to be expected in higher education. After my first year, I truly felt like I was on the way to great success. My second year on the other hand turned out to be quite the opposite. During my first semester back from co-op, I received notification that I had been dropped from two classes without explanation. Upon reaching out to the registrar, I was told to contact my program chair/advisor. Upon reaching out to my advisor, I was not given any guidance. I felt like I was really left to my own devices to try to figure out how to schedule my classes. In addition, I found the teaching quality to be quite disappointing. In the one class that I was able to take that semester, my professor did not once hand out a syllabus or explain the grading rubric. I persistently asked him when grades would be given back, and he would give me a specific date. Only once did he ever give back grades on said date. The rest were given at the end of the semester, thus leaving all students in a state of anxiety over what our final grade would be. He stressed the importance of attendance and punctuality but was hardly ever on time for class. On some occasions, he even made me late to work because class would run over. For these reasons as well as the problems mentioned earlier about the administration, I decided not to return to Cincinnati State. In short, Cincinnati State is a good option for those seeking a low-cost education, and there are some great programs and professors here. However, the unorganized and highly bureaucratic administration combined with some exceptionally unprofessional professors keep the school from being as great as it could be. Please tread lightly if considering Cincinnati State now or in the future.Nick Workman

My review was removed probably by google because I mentioned that I don’t appreciate how their curriculum is trying to indoctrinate you. It’s other wise a good school. I got my degree in two years and had no problems. The instructors for my program were great. But it’s absurd in my opinion that a college feels the need to assert their opinions in to every core class. My English class was consistently wanting us to watch TED talks that talked about political standpoints. My sociology professor was the absolute worst. Even if you did an assignment and followed the rubric, but disagreed with her opinion, she would give you a lower score. Then try to justify it by using her own opinion as sources. She also said that anyone who believes in God is likely uneducated. Overall, my experience was good and I’m glad I got my degree here. But it’s just too liberal for my taste.Britt Jones

Atfter 3 years… Word to the wise, more often than not, you never crack open that 100, 200 something dollar book. A quarter of the professors are great people and go above and beyond and are the positives of the university. Another quarter are there and go through the motions, pretty average and that's fine. The rest are communicationally and emotionally compromised and feel the need to be dictators of their classrooms and go on emotional rants unrelated to material, are professors that have checked out because retirement is around the corner, or are teaching assistants in their early 20s and have no idea what they're doing and rush through so they can get THEIR work done. Parking is a mad house the first half of the semester. I've spent an hour trying to find parking and gave up, I've been threatened and screamed at, dealt with aggression and almost hit by cars. It's not like I felt safe on campus anyways or in Springfield for that matter. The school enrollment is growing faster than they're willing to keep up expecting more and more from professors and give less and less to those who pay the continually raising tuition.Steph McCarty

I myself have had a horrible experience at MSU, but I won't let that account for the school as a whole. If you are considering entering the Computer Information Systems program, you should really consider another school. The instructors in the program are currently abysmal. They are working hard to improve the program, but for now you will learn at a pace and challenge level much less than you would even get at OTC. The College of Business in general felt like a degree mill, in my opinion. As for the rest of the campus, it really is great in every way. You can do almost anything you need right on campus easily. The Foster Recreation center has an awesome pool and great selection of workout equipment. The library is also top-notch and has a great selection. I have a feeling that if you're pursuing an education in non-technical subjects, this would be a great school for the money. If that's not the case though, I highly recommend you seek a better business school elsewhere. Springfield has a hard time retaining talent, and you'll find little of it in the more technical departments at MSU.scott knox

BUYER BEWARE: You'll be fine at MSU as long as you don't complain about any lack of teaching pedagogy in your classes. As a student I have had a Jekyll and Hyde type of experience here; some professors include direct instruction (in a number of modalities) others do not. I was told verbatim by a professor; "I'll do what I want and no one can tell me differently". Another professor, on three separate exams, gave no feedback and in a class of 16 students had four A's with the rest, B, C, D, F, range and didn't change his "Educating" the entire semester. One other professor who had given out continual C's and B's – said he didn't need to teach for "Mastery" of the topic – he only needed to give "Students a shot"… Keep in mind professors are experts in an area and not teachers – that is do not have the training and education to teach, to reach students. Further, in classes I have never seen an administrator come and evaluate the level of "Teaching" being done.ME W

Absolutely AWFUL!! The curriculum is very poorly thought out, the assignments for some of the classes have nothing at all to do with the career you are seeking; a complete waste of time. The instructors (most of them) are terrible about communication. You will not receive a response to 7 out of 10 emails that you send with questions or comments. I am truly stunned by just how disorganized their online programs are. A full semester of time and money have been completely wasted at this institution. I will now have to start all over again somewhere else, but that is better than attempting to continue on with this place for another year or two. Just terrible! If you are considering Barton….DON'T! Absolutely worst school ever! They DO NOT take care of veterans as they claim. It was a complete set-up from the beginning. I enrolled for a class and was told from the school that everything with my Post 9-11 GI bill was fine. AFTER the last day for no-payment withdrawal I was then contacted to be told it wasn’t okay and that I had to pay them 450.00. I was going along with the class like everything was okay only to find out “after the fact” that it wasn’t and since I had already “started” the class there was nothing they can do. Now I’m stuck with a 450.00 debt to them and everyone is saying there is absolutely nothing they can do.Cynetta Moore

My wife and I had planned on taking advantage of the free tuition for our daughter, a military dépendant. The website claims that dépendants of active duty, guard, and reserve are eligible for free tuition. After choosing Barton and planning on taking advantage of the benefit, we found that it doesn’t exist. I’ve been deployed 3 times but we don’t qualify. Barton, do the right thing, have some integrity, support the guard and reserve or take it off of your website. This should never be allowed to happen. Not to service members and their dépendants. I appreciate Rasmussen University for having an abundance of resources and many professors and other staff members who demonstrate they want students to succeed. I especially have enjoyed being a peer educator, being privileged to work with Tammy Hopps who is an excellent supervisor and leader, and also being able to work with other peer educators who care for their peers as much as I do. I transferred from a local state college, which I considered sticking with to save money, but in reality, not much is saved when you compare the timeframe for graduation. At the state college it would take me an extra 2 whole years to receive my BSN, whereas at Rasmussen I save 2 years of time because of their second-degree BSN option. I am very pleased with the quality of technology – at the state school blackboard and other resources were slow and did not work as well on my cell phone, whereas with Rasmussen I can easily access everything I need from my phone when I'm on the go. It's inspiring to see so many single parents and married parents in school, some of which also work full time or part time like myself while completing their degree. I had such high hopes when enrolling at this school. However my experience hasn't been favorable at all. I am a current student and I was disappointed because even though I was able to enroll and start classes I really felt unsupported on this journey. I'm realizing Rasmussen may not be the school for me. I REALLY thought I would be supported and encouraged. I was made to feel that Rasmussen would be rooting for me through my academic journey. Instead I am bombarded with emails and calls telling me what I already know… I owe money. No calls or emails about how I can be helped to budget so that I can pay more toward the balance. I'm only being told: what I owe, to get the balance down to $500-$1000 and to take out loans; which will only put me in debt and it's too early to be taking out loans when I've been in school since September of 2021 and have 2 more years. Also this school doesn't cater to single parents, limited income and individuals that HAVE to work. This school ONLY has day classes for the nursing program and as I said before I HAVE to work full time.Sherria Clark

This morning I called the university for the North Orlando Campus for the Nursing program and spoke to the director of Nursing who was discusstingly rude on the phone. I called to get information, He had no patience and told me Not to proceed a career in Nursing because it was Not for me. This was a university that I was so excited to be a part of and be a graduate of Nursing. The director needs to be Fired because he is giving the university a bad reputation.
