I am saddened to read the negative reviews posted here about Houghton College, as I don't think they reflect the reality our family has experienced. My son is in his third academic year there and our family wholeheartedly gives Houghton a five-star rating. The small class size is a real plus, in that the professors are able to give personal attention to each and every student. We have found the staff to be highly professional and supportive in all regards. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this college to anyone seeking a Christ-centered education for their children or for themselves.Dave Belt

Graduated in 2003, loved everything about Houghton. Please consider graduates' reviews of this school, most of the negative reviews are from people who did not attend. I don't know current enrollment stats, but it would be a good idea to call the office with questions before writing this off. I do agree that the town isn't much to behold, but this is NOT the place to go if you want a bustling metropolis nearby. We stayed at Houghton for a week of camp with our church's Student Ministry. The staff was incredible there right down to the dorm cleaning staff, who would take the time to stop and have a meaningful conversation with you. Some of the food was incredible. My son recently graduated from this college. He transferred in from a 2 year college so he was only there for 5 semesters. Things started okay but went downhill. Communication quickly became a problem. We had issues from professors, finance and counseling. It became so bad that to get anything done we had to cc the Dean in any messages that we sent. I also know of someone else who had to do the same thing. The last semester was the worst. He was enrolled as a full time student but when the bill came through it was in correct. We got loans for the first amount but had to get additional loans after the semester ended. No one sent an email we had to check the account because my son never received an email or his diploma. When we were notified by the finance department they told us we had to fix it. Numerous emails were sent to many different people but nothing was ever fixed. We finally resent the emails and cc’d the Dean and it finally got fixed. The college also changed the advisor without notifying us that it had changed. My son had to find his own internship and figure his classes out on his own. My daughter had the same issues with communication. She was signed up to go but never heard back. She then got a call from the advisor asking why she never showed up. The advisor had enrolled her in classes but never told her. She ended up not going. If you choose this college they will take your money but you will have to do a lot of work to make sure they are on top of things.Todd Crossett

I graduated from Roberts last year and I had a great experience. I do agree with some reviews that communication is not always great, but as long as you are proactive and take an active approach to your education here, you'll do wonderfully. The staff and students are very respectful and the professors seem to really care about you and your overall success. It is a nice size campus, not too busy and not too small. I went to undergrad here and loved it. There were always opportunities to learn outside of class, meet people through activities, and my professors knew who I was. A wonderful place to go to school and a great place to visit. The students here are almost all very kind, sweet, accepting, supportive, and open-minded people. They are slightly diverse in terms of demographics, and quite diverse in terms of personality. The college offers a diverse range of majors and excellent classes. It has particularly great music, performing arts, nursing, and physical therapy programs. Class sizes are not very big, with very few lecture hall-style class settings. The teachers are mostly very kind and care greatly about what they do. Tuition is very high, but depending on your program, it can be worth it. The campus is beautiful! It is full of nature and a mix of collegiate gothic and more modern buildings. It is small and dense, but not crowded. It is also very safe. Risk of theft or damage to property is very rare, but the latter is more common among lowerclassmen. There is so much history to uncover. It is located close to good places to shop, eat, and visit in Pittsford. The academic buildings are clean, well-lit, and mostly fitted with modern amenities. Bathrooms in some buildings are very clean, some are quite unclean. The lowerclassmen residence halls can be somewhat loud, are typically slightly unclean, but have many events to attend run by the RAs. There are dorm or suite-style living choices. Upperclassmen residence halls are mostly clean, almost always very quiet, and have dorm, suite, apartment-style living choices. Living arrangements are for full-time students only. The food in the Dining Commons is pretty good. It has a pretty diverse menu with some options tasting decent, some great. Other food locations around campus have a somewhat limited menu range and the food is mediocre. Some alternative dietary accommodations are met, and more will be made if requested. Facilities staff are mostly not friendly, but not unkind. The staff in the Dining Commons are mostly pretty friendly and very kind.Graeme Lechner

I received counseling services from John Aceto at Nazareth College. This man is sexually inappropriate! I met him to work on my shyness, and for the entire session he tried diagnosing me other issues. He told me I drink coffee everyday because I have "Caffeine-use disorder." That rediculous disorder is not even in the DSM! Then he diagnosed my father with Bipolar disorder, based on my childhood memories. He never even met my father in person. After the session, he began rubbing his hand on my back, telling me that he wanted to "help me out." I felt violated. BEWARE of this man! He will rope you in for other issues and try to take advantage of you. I expressed my concerns to the director, Megan Clifford Papponetti, and she black mailed me. She threatened to have me suspended, and that is exactly what she attempted. She shared my confidential assessments and sessions with my Ex and even to my professors. My professors were concerned about me, saying that they received a strange call from Megan "bragging about the information she found out about me." That was PERSONAL information that I trusted with the Nazareth College Counseling Center, and I was humiliated. Nazareth College, you should be ashamed of yourself! A good school where you get out what you put in. Many trains stop within walking distance and buses as well. Just like any college, depending on your major, you will find good and bad professors. So always make use of the rate my professor website. I had a very pleasant experience. The administration was more competent than other schools I went to and my issues were always solved within a reasonable amount of time. The facilities I had to use for my major were in even better condition compared to some four year schools. The wifi coverage was good. Plenty of cafeterias with the best one being in the E building. Plenty of food trucks with different types of foods. Lots of seating areas with electrical ports. The class scheduling was workable with enough sections to fit almost everyone. Can't speak for any other major but it felt like that overall. They are always hiring new adjuncts so it's not the same professor teaching that one section you need all the time that everyone says is horrible. Always stay on top of your things if you want to have them resolved quickly. That's the part you play in your college years. The hand holding stops after High School. All I can say is, relax a little and have some fun. At the end of the day grades won't show the strength of your character after all is said and done.Mounia B

It seems like professors like the one I got Professor Arnold who acts likes she is going through the motions and don't there . i felt I waste my time and money which I paid out of pocket in her class and is thinking about leaving the college. Im currently in my last year at LaGuardia (majoring in business) and i have to say the Business department is full of AMAZING professors. Classes are really easy (most of them except accounting unless you're good at it) and the students are cool. I, personally, never talked to anyone or made any friends because I'm not an outgoing person. The school is constantly going under renovations and they just finished the new library and it looks AMAZING, as if it was a library from an ivy league. Food isn't that great but what do you expect, its school food [not free of course]. I have had an amazing experience with Herzing University! I am excelling in my degree choice and I couldn't be more satisfied with my learning experience and the flexibility that the online program gives me.The instructors are all willing to help whenever I have a question, and if they see many students struggling with something, they will post an announcement with some helpful tips on how to proceed through our courses. The learning material is easy to understand, the discussion boards really help me connect with my classmates more than I normally would, the library is full of everything you might need for your studies, and the Coach rooms and Tutoring center are very helpful! I have seen many posts off and on about how students struggled in this school. I have to say the most common thing I see students struggling from in these courses is not doing the assigned work on time, not participating in the discussions, and not following the assigned directions on assignments. We have to take responsibility and do our work (on time!) or we will not succeed, and we should not blame someone else for our lack of trying. Just with everything else in life, if you do not put any effort into something, you will not gain anything from it. I stared with Herzing back in 2013 for my undergrad BSN RN. At that time, school was still establishing itself, therefore, I had some rough time getting through the program, but overall my experience was good. I considered D'Youville College for my Post 9/11 GI Bill graduate program. I ultimately picked another school which offered the degree I was interested in. By happenstance I spent my last semester of my studies at D'Youville. Wow, what a difference. While other schools pay lip service to Veterans, D'Youville is putting their money where their mouth is. At other schools, despite what they say, Vets are simply another number, a commodity they are anxious to attract for the easy money, but once enrolled, these Vets are quickly forgotten. A single staff member will be assigned Vets as a collateral duty, one of many hats they wear. D'Youville on the other hand has a staff of dedicated personnel whose sole job is to take care of Vets. Instead of being referred elsewhere, D'Youville gets resolution to any and all issues that their Vets encounter. They know how to successfully navigate the Veteran's Administration, as well as New York State benefits (e.g. Veterans Tuition Awards). Not only do they educate **ALLL** Vets (not simply limited the Gold Ribbon qualified Vets), but they also offer generous incentives for Vets' spouses and dependents. I been working in a community health program with the School of Nursing and Pharmarcy. My interaction wtih both students and professors has been excellent, and have surpass my expectations in wiliness to serve the community. About the D'Youville social life, this is a small college and their social life is during lunch time in Spot Coffee, which is located in the basement. How does a college have a faculty that can't answer any questions pertaining to activities that go on campus. there are 4 kids to a room and marijuana smoke fills the air. You complain to faculty that you were not around anytime that this is found by staff with proof of your where abouts each and everytime. I don't smoke at all. Loved my college experience at UB. Quality academics, quality student life. There is great diversity which will help you with life after college. Food is good, not great, but what do you expect when you are cooking for the masses. Wish people cared more about the athletics. They have made north campus and the apartments surrounding it nice. If I could give this institution zero stars I would be. Don’t waste your time with GCC, they will waste your time and money without any doubt in my mind. Don’t fall for the “it’s a beautiful campus” thing, because for example the nursing program is going downhill according to some alumni I’ve spoken to, who are now clinical instructors. I would never even refer to this place as a school let alone a college. Being a transfer student, I have experience with other more legitimate schools and universities. If you're still stuck taking a remedial/non credit class; instead of being able to register online LIKE IT SHOULD BE FOR EVERY STUDENT, you're instead forced to go all the way to Valhalla to register for classes EVERY semester until you've passed ALL their pointless non credited classes! Miserable place. Professors don’t care. They have people who don’t speak English teaching the math department. Those in the financial building are miserable, uninformative and rude. Nobody communicates!! Financial Tells you one thing and the counselors say something different. Totally unorganized and made my college experience a miserable one. I was pretty skeptical about going back to school during this plandemic and now that I’m back in school, I wish I would’ve saved my money. The website says lab classes will be conducted online but it’s actually remote. If you want to pay full tuition for a partial education, then this is the place for you. The people who work in the administrative building specifically the Bursar’s office don’t care. The administrative building is physically closed so the only way to communicate is via email. Terrible when it comes to visitors and what information they tell you. My sister is currently in this place and apparently I can’t visit her. When my mom called them, they told us “only two set visitors can show up to visit the patient.” Nowhere on the pamphlet did it say that. The pamphlet says “immediate family members are welcome to visit during the day” and “other family and friends may visit Monday-Friday”. Also, they said it’s a rule due to covid. Everybody in our family is vaccinated including my sister (the patient) + we haven’t been near anybody with covid at all. Thanks to the hospital to telling us about this policy, my brother and father have wasted just about 3 and a half hours of their day going to visit, told they can’t, and driving back. Also, what happened to the no electronics thing? Everybody was told she was not allowed near electronics, but all of a sudden, she’s allowed to have a zoom meeting via iPad? Spent 6 hours at this hospital. They don't seem to do anything but COVID. I told them multiple times I didn't have COVID but they wouldn't be convinced so they sent me home with no diagnosis, convinced they were right. Got my negative test result from them this morning but that doesn't help my 101 fever. People need to trust that a hospital will actually do their job instead of just assuming they know. If I could put no stars I would. Okay so I was doing pretty well in the college at first all A's and B's everything was going great! Until I ended up having to help out with rent so I had to get a job, and being a mother also I am one of the few who would NOT want to put that much stress (job, kids, and school) on myself. So I call them and tell tell whoever (if only I remembered her name) my situation and how I won't be able to attend anymore, and she ends up asking me all these questions like why am I withdrawing and questions that shouldn't really be asked because she didn't even say it's policy or anything, she just wanted to know. So I tell her I'm starting my new job soon and she asked me the one question that just actually made me done with her, she asked, "Are you sure you're not able to do all 3?" as in all 3 she means taking care of my child, going to work, and going to school. Let that sink in. It actually made me even more frustrated because she was telling me that if I did now it would cost a lot to pay back, but listen if I have to withdraw I have to. There's no 'Are you sure you want to?' So they said they'd call and tell me the rest of the details so we can get through with the withdrawal process and I haven't gotten a call yet but what I did get was an attendance email from Outlook telling me that I won't be able for eligibility for my financial aid if I miss 14 days. Wow. So, I'm going to call them now because this is ridiculous and I do not have time. But if you do go to this school, please be careful. i know that other people will have a better experience or whatever. But this is not one of them.AiKitty Chan

I was excited to start my online career here. However the guy in admissions that was assigned to me was not for me. He was not personable at all I only spoke to him one time and that was for five minutes he never explained anything just said he will send me an email if assessments that was it never heard from him again I tried email him several times never received a email or a phone call until five day later stating to complete more assessments I had questions and he did not answer them . 1. They don’t offer free counseling to students. I can’t imagine a university not caring about their students mental health 2. The bus schedule to pick students up to bring them to the university is unclear and the coach for Soccer said she never sees it either 3. You don’t have a credit union. Many students don’t have credit and credit unions are a great/safe way to help students open up into that world. UW Green Bay has all of these things. Im really glad I found this school to pursue my ultrasound career. The teachers and staff were amazing, our ultrasound teachers were there for us 100% of the time. Mary Beth stayed after class and tutored me almost everyday for a few hours. The faculty at this school truly care about their students and the education they are receiving, they go above and beyond to help us achieve our goals. I would highly recommend this program to anyone looking to go to school for ultrasound. They have a variety of machines to learn on as well as phantoms. Great Lakes offers a wide variety of programs to get you started in the medical field. I toured the facility with the intent on becoming a nurse, but after seeing everything Great Lakes offered I am now working towards my associates in surgical technology. Hands down the most unprofessional college I've ever attended. The head of admissions will lie to you in order to get you to sign their paperwork (She'll say literally anything.) Then, my cousin and I were told we could apply for a work study. After being told to ask one person after the next, we finally were informed first semester students aren't allowed to do work studies. I was given a run around when I told them I wanted to withdraw and attend a better college. Thankfully, I'm wrapping up my bachelor's elsewhere. Three years in a row they haven't sent me my tax information, I've called them regarding it and they keep insisting they did send it. I am paying off my high interest loan from there and they take 3 weeks to cash my check every time. They ripped off myself, my cousin, and three of my friends so far. I work most often with a gentleman named Rocky and I have never, in my professional career, worked with someone as responsive as he. I am so very impressed with his response time to any questions I may have and if for some reason he doesn't have the answer he will quickly find it. I love trying various positions in the nursing field and the staff is always eager to assist me with any concerns or questions I may have. I have worked with Jillian and Joe and have nothing but great things to say about both of them. I strongly encourage any nurse looking for a great healthcare agency to try Maxim. I am currently involved in CDPAP for a family member, and chose Maxim to manage the hours/payroll. It's been about a year and a half, and I am very happy with them. Update 10/21/22 Looks like theirs still a lot of issues inside the program, especially with the administration. I'm an excelling student and was rewarded F's on assignments that I received a 100% for submitting assignments early. This is not in the syllabus or Bryant and Stratton's policy that you can not submit assignments early. I'm paying 10,000 this semester and I'm halfway through the RN program. It sickens me that instructors will intentionally try to fail A-B students who have the hunger and drive to learn and excel. Administrators and staff are continuously negligent to listen to the concerns of students and frequently ignore urgent messages from students who try to succeed and earn the grades that they work hard for. Update 3/3/22 I wanted to take a second to thank the school for its willingness to fix every issue that I have encountered. I do appreciate all of the hard work. Update 2/23/22 I think I’m just being told things to stop calling and shut up. I’ve been trying to get the school to answer my questions about transcripts and have them evaluated. I’ve been calling and working with them for weeks was told that they had them, inquired today and was told that they do not have them and my evaluation is not complete “some how”. I’ve sent my transcripts over twice, verified the information, was told that they were going to request my transcripts themselves which apparently didn’t happen. no one answers questions, no accountability, no one knows what’s going on. I’m so frustrated and defeated I just want to go back to school and this is what preventing me. It’s impossible to get in touch with ANYONE and to see where your at in the admission process. I’m so disappointed. Call center says that they do evening classes for nursing they do not. It is a full-time daytime program Monday through Friday not flexible 46,400 for 4 semesters. Teas test for admission 30 student class sizes 3 starts a year January, May, and September they are 16 month programs. Is accredited and you can sit for nursing boards if you go here. I was super intersted in the new RN program so I attended an informational session on 1/19/22 to hopefully start in May 2022. The next step was to reach out to our admissions rep which I did on 1/21 via email to let her, Sam, know I was intersted and to start the next steps. No response. I again reached out on 1/22 to inform her that I had sent over my high school and college transcripts. No response. Again, I reached out on 1/28 to see if my transcripts had been received because they had not been opened. No response. Let me add that I had called and left voicemails as well for this rep between these emails. I then called the main line to recieve assistance on 2/23 because I received an email saying my college transcipts had not been downloaded and were now expiring. I then got a call from Sam immediately who then scheduled a financial aid meeting for 2/28. She seemed hopeful she could get me in the May class still and get all my credits together to see whether I would be full or part time. She told me to get my ATI sent over before the financial aid appointment so I paid $20+ to do so on 2/23. I attended my financial aid meeting on the above date and filled out all my FAFSA with the FA rep. I also filled out the email paperwork sent to me from the FA rep and then wrote a text to Sam to let her know I was set and to "Please keep me updated with the evaluation so I can schedule my accuplacer!" No response, suprise! After that it was my last straw because I do not want to attend a school where their staff is completely unorganized. It really is disheartening because the program seems awesome. They also could not answer my questions about accreditation, which to me seems like they aren't knowledgeable about it. this school is disgusting my girlfriend took her penn foster high school diploma there and got into a medical assistance class and she wanted to switch her major so they told her to hurry up and withdraw and she will be able to sign up for the major she wanted so she did now she have to pay a entire loan off in order to go back when she wasn't there for 2 weeks now this penn foster diploma is not at there site anymore and they are being real nasty with getting her proof she even took it there in the first place Bryant and stratton really need to be investigatedLavonte Robinson

I love the more personal contact with the professors. This school is smaller than Universities but I believe we get a better education in a smaller classroom where we are more than just a name. Our instructors know us and provide encouragement along the way. Most of the staff are very friendly and willing to help out in any way possible. It makes such a difference in the learning experience as a whole.Lynn Cook

This place is a joke, if you want an actual college education go anywhere but here. The professors don't get back to calls/emails and the rest of the administration is in it for themselves. The high schools in this area offer the same level of education so what's the point of JCC besides a quick money grab.Jeremy K

Moving our mom to Juniper Glen was the best decision we've made! The facility is beautiful, with a warm and homey atmosphere. Staff members know Mom and all of their residents by name; their staff demonstrates a culture of kindness, patience and care. Their monthly calendar is filled with a variety of fun, monthly themes, and mentally stimulating events and activities. Their Facebook page can give you a better understanding of their programs. It is priceless when you see your loved one on their page enjoying a game, event, or just a snack in their dining area. <3 Our mother was quite afraid and shy at the time of arrival, but their encouragement for her participation (not forced) has really brought mom a sense of purpose to her days. She calls it “working”, but if it’s her job to have fun; more power to her!! Their structured environment is key in providing residents with a sense of purpose to her day. We have had so many questions throughout the process and JG’s staff has been responsive, knowledgeable, and accommodating at every level. They offer resources to families to better understand ALZ that I have found invaluable. We are confident that our mom is receiving the care she needs because we are seeing her smile again; she feels a part of something that makes her feel useful, safe, well cared for and active again.Valerie Joslin

This facility is horrible. Most every manager quit all on the same day. There was lack of communication between staff and family, residents were laying or crawling on the floor when I visited, personal items were missing, and even discrepancies regarding the meds that her doctor said she ordered and what the facility said they were told to give. I tried to reach the owners, who live lot of town, no direct number to them and I left messages on machines. No return calls. The man who said he represents the owners and flew into town to try and hire new people is very unprofessional , threatened to evict all the residents, shut it down and then open it back up. The state has been at the facility investigating for many days. I have moved my sister out of there within one week of finding out management quit. Be very very careful placing your loved ones in this facility. I definitely am sorry I did. Run the other way!KIM BULOW

I am happy to talk about my positive feelings about Juniper Glen. My husband was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s about 8 years ago . I was able to care for him at home until this past September. He entered Juniper Glen at the beginning of October and it was a very good decision to have him do so. The facility is lovely and very clean. The Staff, from the person in charge, Mimi, as well as all of the others in management positions, to the nurses , the aids, and the people who do laundry and cleaning are all caring and very patient. They are familiar with each and every resident and always call them by name and do it with a smile. I highly recommend Juniper Glen.Ellen Reis
