I went to Chesapeake after my service year in AmeriCorps which served as my gap year after high school. I studied Computer Information Systems: PC & Network Management and also took part in the Honors Program as well. The classes within my field always proved beneficial and relatable to what I do on the job and also paved the way for my certifications. The general education courses served their purpose and prevented me from having to take any other ones when I transferred. If you didn't get immediately accepted into a university out of high school or if you're a returning student, Chesapeake is a great starting location to start your studies anew.Aaron Wilt

I had a good experience here in getting my associates. However, my sister who just started attending here has had multiple incidents of faculty (advisors and front office) being incompetent or unable to answer questions that they should know the answers to. I personally didn't have these experiences because I didn't engage much with faculty but this has severely hampered her experience here. She even had a replacement teacher for one going on maternity leave who would say rude remarks to students, and even when multiple students complained, the department head and the dean of student affairs refused to rectify the situation, aka reprimand the teacher at the very least. I hope WorWic figures some things out for the sake of current and future students because, other than what I mentioned, it is a good environment and most teachers encourage you to work hard and succeed.Leah B

School is ok. Some teachers are good others are bad. You pay other people for you to teach yourself. Do not take A & P here Lab sucks you sit there and you don't even get to dissect anything. I re took the class because they said my lab wasn't good enough from my previous school. Yet this lab you don't do anything and the reason is because the college can't afford it because ppl aren't enrolling. And if you need to get a hold of a professor that you have online classes with good luck it wouldn't happen. I have heard great praise about the nursing program. I had the privilege of experiencing this wonderful college through my sons when they participated in Kids@Carroll/Teen College summer programs! In 2012 our friend, who’s a chemistry teacher, let us know he’d be holding a science/magic summer camp there. My sons began attending that year and didn’t stop until they aged out! CCC was always a highlight of their childhood summers and I am forever grateful. The enrichment and education they received time and time again at such well put together programs with high quality instructors was unmatchable! They enjoyed many of Ken Ecker’s art camps and they still keep in touch with him today! He even makes it a point to wish them each a Happy Birthday every year! He’s such a radically genuine person and an amazing artist! And he still teaches adult and youth programs when he comes down from NYC! He’s simply the best! I always loved how the art camps would culminate with a beautiful art show for parents and friends to attend! I have so many photos on my digital frame from those days and cherish the memories! If you are looking for a university that constantly drops classes without notifying you and consistently mess up your financial aid and student loans, then this is the university for you. I have never dealt with such an unorganized and incompetent higher education facility. If I were not so close to reaching my end goal with my education I would transfer. If you are planning on taking courses at the HEAT Center in Aberdeen through Notre Dame, such as myself, don't bother because courses are rarely offered there and I have had 3 courses in the past 2 semesters that were to be held at the HEAT Center that have been cancelled and I was never notified by Notre Dame. Now they have notified Fed Loans that I graduated in August when I have not completed all my coursework. Talk about unorganized. I don't think I have encountered one person on the administrative staff that seems like they know what they are doing. I can say my professors have been good; however all of the negative encounters I have had with administration has overshadowed those positives.Kelly Borowiak

This review is of the Entry level BSN nursing program. To be fair, this institution actually has a very good nursing program. The culture of the environment however needs plenty of improvements. This nursing program lacks cultural diversity and sensitivity. The nursing program and it’s educators still caters to the program’s largely Caucasian student population. All of the full time professors that lecture are white with the exception of one Indo-Caribbean professor. This has created an environment of both intentional and unintentional biases, which has also created an open tolerance for racial and ethnic prejudices that should never be acceptable or tolerated in an educational environment. The nursing program would greatly benefit from including an office of Cultural diversity and inclusion to better accommodate and nurture its students from different racial and ethnic backgrounds.Beautiful Life of B

Notre Dame of Maryland was the last college I visited, but the first one that felt like home. I'm only a sophomore, but I know that I made the best decision because the faculty, staff, and student body make this place so great. My professors are always available and helpful, which is great in a pinch, and living on campus with my friends is the best thing I could have asked for. The programs create something for everyone (as seen in my own dorm!) with one roommate as Pre-Pharm in the 3/4 year program, the other currently applying for the Nursing Program, and I'm applying for the 5 year MAT program for education. I realize that my opinion can't stand for the whole school (chemical engineering​ 2017), but having held a student job that allowed me to see a lot of the behind the scenes stuff and was part of a department that was in the midst of a lot of changes, I do think I can offer some insight. First, unless you're a proactive genius who wants to do research their entire life, don't bother coming here. This school doesn't care about industry or the jobs it offers. This school talks a lot, but doesn't follow through very well. For instance, the higher ups tend to be good, but the people below them are horrible. The career center is a joke, the admin people are flakes who pretend to know what they're doing, and the professors are very hit or miss. How this school got "best undergrad teaching" is a mystery to me. The only good majors are comp sci and bio. The rest of the departments, especially mine, are either full of hot air, stupid in their decision making, or just plain lost. This university attracts a lot of insanely bright students to their undergraduate program and the stem majors would suck without them. God knows the STEM majors don't get genuine help from their professors. I had to go an extra year because of the negligence of my department and two of the many professors that left during my time were upset and thought I should have graduated a year earlier. I almost transferred twice. My department, similar to many others, don't have any connections to companies in industry. This school also hates transfer students despite having a lot of them. Don't expect to finish any degree in 4 years if you're transferring in. There's no social life here because the school is filled with pasty nerds. This is the worst school in the state of Maryland (and possibly in the US). Several buildings on campus are run down (the Sondheim building has even had asbestos in it). The quality of the food is poor and it's overpriced. The social life sucks. It's not a well-known school outside of Maryland. And most importantly, classes are insanely difficult (especially for STEM majors). The classes aren't designed to weed out the slackers. They're designed to weed out the people who try their absolute hardest (and sacrifice things such as sleep and a decent social life) but can't keep up with the immense workload thrown at the students and/or approach assignments with the same exact mindset as the professors. Exams are geared less toward understanding important subject material and more toward deciphering what the professors are actually asking. This school is nothing but a weed out school. I know students who are very intellectually gifted yet still struggle with courses only because of the professors. Almost every professor, by the way, couldn't care less about students and (one would think) they take pride in handing out bad grades – maybe because it inflates their ego of "how brilliant they are compared to others". One more note on the courses – for many courses there is one week between the final exam and the last normal exam of the semester. The biggest mistake I've ever made was attending this "school". I can honestly say that attending UMBC feels like a form of imprisonment. I can't overstate how much I truly despise this school. Please don't make the same mistake I did – go to UMD, Towson, or really anywhere but UMBC.Bucky C

There are a lot of great things about UMBC, the career center is great and there are some top-notch professors. There are some problems though. One annoying thing is they nickel and dime you for everything. Parts of the campus are run down looking and they wont go there during the tour. Most of my professors have been good but my girlfriend who is an art major has had more than one professor that just had students watch online videos instead of teaching them animation topics. -Library carpet is worn out -Chairs in library are so gross your arms stick to them -ITE building has chairs with foam falling out -You must pay to play ping pong or any game in the "game room" -The billing dept gives you very little time to pay the bill and is quick to issue an expensive late fee -Social life isn't great on campus Another thing worth noting that has unfortunately been getting worse is UMBC's leadership imposing their political motives on students through 'updates' on current events. Updates are fine but the vocabulary used in some of the 'updates' is disrespectful to some students who don't agree with the same viewpoints as 'UMBC leadership'. Word of advice: try and transfer out of this ghetto school as soon as possible. It'll save you the headache. TAKE ONLINE CLASSES! That way, you will not have to deal with their crap. The only good thing you'll find about this school is the cheap tuition, some good professors if you can find the right ones. So far, I managed to have good ones. And a few nice students along the way. But the unprofessional, unorganized with the admins, staff, etc is a nightmare. I'm speaking from experience with the financial aid and trying to sign up for classes. They act like they don't know what they're doing. Not to mention, you try to be friendly and they give you attitude like you did something wrong. Plus, the staff and admins are incredibly immature and straight up bullies. When you ask for help, they will act irritated, rude or expect you to it yourself. You know that you are going to be around students all day long, and if that is something you cannot handle or deliver civil professionalism, then why are you working here to begin with? Oh yeah, because they just hire anybody, and just hungry for a paycheck. Oh and also, people just tell you different answers or just straight up lie to you. If I had the choice, I would not spend another semester here for another minute. They really need to do something about this ghetto, unprofessional, unorganized, low class school and hire better admins, staff, etc too. I'll be so glad when I'm able to leave this school because I will not miss it. I'm sticking to my statement that Virginia schools are better. Also, another thing to add is that the advisers do not know how to do their jobs! They are just there for the title, so know what YOU want and YOUR plan, because these advisers will just tell you anything. In addition, they will act so conceited to make you look stupid. That's why I'm going with my own plan, and I can't wait to leave this school in the spring of 2018. It has been nothing but very poor. They just want your money. This school is nothing but a joke. I hated this college including all staffs, administration and president of this college I had many issues with back when I was attending this college. Yes, I graduated in 2004, made very high grades and achieve my goals, but the President of this college did nothing about my situation. She failed to do her job claiming that she will not bar a student for harassing me. She is very lucky I did not sue her before I graduated. Other people has complained about allowing non-visitors attending to this school for no reason. This brings a major concern about safety. I would advise no one attend to this school. It sure has very poor administration. I do not care what that president said, she is a very poor administrator. I wonder why there are so many bad reviews about this school. It's not as bad as I thought or as I read. Yes, I did have a bad impression at first because I was supposed to take four courses, now I'm taking three because of their carelessness. But that's the only problem I've encountered here. I graduated with my lpn at standard college in august 2015, and im now working on my RN at standard. The instructors have a lot of nursing experience and give you great nursing knowledge you will use on the nclex and while at work. The instructors and administration are very willing to help students and often provide extra tutoring IF YOU ASK for it. The curiculem is VERY challanging. standard college is for students who are focused, hardworking, and motivated to study study and study. If you want to build a knowledge base that will help to make you an excellent nurse then standard is for you. The cirriculem is challenging but you are told that at orientation and at the admissions interview many times. The school is serious about graduating educated nurses who will go into the career and keep patients safe. 80% is needed to pass each class. Its challenging but IT CAN BE DONE! I was referred to Standard College by a friend who graduated from the program and spoke very highly of the school. My experience in the nursing program thus far has been very positive (about to graduate). They provide lots of support to the students, including small group tutoring which is very helpful. You do need an 80% to pass the program, but this is made very clear during orientation. With all the resources and additional support that is provided, I am having no problem maintaining above 85% in each course.Shebna Jackson

In the beginning I was letting alot of things and thoughts hold me back from pursuing what I really wanted but once I took this class I felt more confident that I can do anything I put my mind to if I put the work into it. Mrs lisa taught me that it isnt what someone else want for you , its about what you want and how far you able to go get it. No matter the barrier being thrown at you , You can overcome it. I signed up for Lisa’s Masterclass training for business. I am not new to coaching, however I am new to business. This school wasted so much of my time. I was using a veteran's program that ends this year, and I spoke with their admissions, the VA rep, and academic advising and they put me thru the whole process of enrolling, having transcript sent, etc. Then I was told by the VA rep to enroll right away, but I was not allowed to until I spoke with Advising. At that time I was told I was good to go and could enroll on Oct 24th. I called the school to enroll on that day and was told I was too late. The classes I would be enrolling for start the following January. I was given contradictory information at every step, and now with such a time crunch on my hands I have to start at square one talking with a bunch of other schools to see who can fit me in. Meanwhile I've wasted a whole week waiting for this school's "first day to register" and paying to send my transcript. My daughter took a class with Professor Yvonne Chaney. There was poor communication, minimal instruction, and unfair grading. My daughter has been a straight A student her whole life. Taking APs and honors classes. Never below a 4.0 and she currency has a 5.3. She has been doing very good in English, which is why she chose to take this class. This school treats me like trash. A lot of things they have done since going here is sneaky and weird and if it continues I’d have to report them to the real government. This campus plays games, jokes and gossips about students, and acts weird about everything and I mean EVERYTHING I try to do. It drains me to the point that I want to drop out of school indefinitely. If I could give ZERO STARS I would!! First let me say, in order to join this program they prefer you to be unemployed or work little to no work hours to attend a 6 week program .. I resigned from a job specifically for this program . All of the recent reviews are based off of one teacher , I was unfortunately not lucky enough to have that teacher. During class you are expected to complete certain skills related to being a CNA/GNA & the school sends you a couple supplies to use for your skills but they also expect you to go out and spend your own money to complete the skills. (Keep in mind they prefer you to be unemployed so what unemployed person wants to spend unnecessary money just for a mock test) then not to mention at the start of the program they don’t inform you how drawn out the wait is to take your exam to become a GNA due to the board of nursing being backed up. So your only expected to make about $13-$15 as A CNA until your testing date which is months away at the minimum . I found out that part from my instructor once I was already enrolled which who was not very pleasant of working with , she talks to students like we are her children & the administration at the program will defend this kind of behavior. I wanted to switch my classes because of it & they made that process even harder . I informed them on multiple occasions that I accepted employment again with a government agency & would not be able to complete morning classes & they still insisted on putting me in an morning classes after being informed multiple times that I could not attend .. the program is free if your going through a grant funder that’s the only good thing . I “graduated” in April. I have yet to take my state test with the board of Nursing. Since I haven’t took my test, the job IT Works makes you go work for pays you terribly because they paid for your training, to do the same amount of work or MORE than those who get paid way more than you that are actually GNA’s. I also have yet to receive my certificate from the school stating i’m a CNA or valedictorian of my class. When you call IT Works for information of any sort they tell you you have to speak to this person and that person and it never gets anywhere. No one knows when you’ll take your test. They threaten you all during the programs introduction that they will withhold your license and call the board of nursing if you do X Y and Z but they do so many things wrong to us “students” which is why we are all quitting these jobs and why nursing homes are so poorly staffed. If I could give zero stars I would! Almost all of the staff is disrespectful. The teacher I had talks to you like you are her children, better yet I wouldn’t even talk to my children like that and the staff allows it and makes excuses for their behavior as if it is acceptable.They prefer you not to work and expect you to comply with their schedule and do not care about yours at all. I completed everything I needed to do for them to tell me I need to complete another week of clinicals because I passed but it was not to their satisfaction. They look for reasons to fail you or hold you back and it’s sad. I would not recommend this program to anyone because all you will have is problems. I believe they do it to try to get you to quit so you have to pay the money for the grant back.Jasmine Davis

It doesn't matter who you are, where you live, how old you are, where you work…or don't …there's a Continuing Education class that you can slip into your world. Whether you want to learn to drive a truck or drive a golf ball…there's a class for that!Mary Pless

Terrible treatment! Understaffed and not attentive to patients! weeks ago NEW This place is horrible!!! On multiple times I have had to remove my father myself to take her to the emergency room for medical treatment due to lack of care. The staff have stated to me and my family multiple times "they have a thousand other things to do rather than care for my father ". The staff outside of nursing is top notch but they are not the ones taking care of your loved ones. Do not send family members here unless you want to be prepared to file legal cases.as usual you will receive the messages of some one wanting to hear your concerns just to have them dodge hearing your complaints and concerns. Also no one will contact you or return your calls about the lives of your loved ones.Dr. Jayvon Layne

My husband was placed at Future Care Irvington. I was indeed pleased with the professionalism of the staff. The staff were friendly and made visiting the facility enjoyable. Nurses and nurse assistants were always available to answer questions. My husband would always praise the staff for the care he received. The facility was very clean. The housekeeping staff did a marvelous job. The physical therapist, occupational therapist, social workers, front door receptionists, security were always on duty and ready to assist patients and family members. I would recommend this facility for anyone looking for a place for your loved ones to receive quality care.Friendly Dessie

FutureCare Irvington is the best place to work and to have a loved one cared for. I’m honored to be able to work with such a talented and caring team. FutureCare Irvington has an in house Dialysis so the resident don’t have to go out three times a weeks. The Activities department is amazing. The Nurses and GNAs are very caring and love helping the residents participate in the activities and seeing the smiles on the residents faces. The social work team truly makes the transition from hospital to the nursing home to discharge a smooth progress.Emerald Lee

This was a great school because it was way much better than Prince George's Community College. The problems are that the Dance Department is not very organized, have professors that are terrible teachers of teaching the Dance Ensemble and Ballet Dance courses. Plus, they do not offer contemporary, hip hop and tap dance, which is needed. There are also poor administrations in the Dance Department that needs improvement. Plus, some of the students including the teachers try to bullied me on social media, but I do not tolerated because I am too rigid for that. But at least I graduated in 2012 with a 3.80 grade point average and receive my Associate's Degree in Theatre and Dance. Now, I can move forward, move to another state to pursue my dreams including doing my dance careers, operating a better, successful dance company than College of Southern Maryland and other dance companies I had issues with in the past, get married, start a family and live a healthy long life. I would highly recommended students to attend to this college, but not get a degree in Theatre and Dance. If you want to get a degree in Theatre and Dance, go to Towson University because their dance department is much friendlier than College of Southern Maryland Dance Department. CSM is a corrupt academic organization that has an incompetent Bursar's office. We tried to drop a class within the deadline and were unable to due to multiple system errors. After multiple phone calls we were told to call back the next day and that all would be well. We did and were told all was taken care of. One month later we receive a letter saying we are denied our refund with no explanation. Multiple calls and emails to the Bursar's office go nowhere. Very unfortunate for such a small academic institution to build their Bursar's office on dishonesty, lack of integrity and lousy customer service. Be warned that they are unorganized and incompetent and it will require numerous phone calls to achieve absolutely nothing. A totally disgraceful office.Alex E

If you want to get a refund or drop a class due to a reason not listed in the involuntary withdrawal policy, such as a bad teacher (I recommend checking rate your professor before registering for classes) then it won’t happen. You will have to do so within the first week of a semester. The teacher definitely has good influence on whether or not you pass or fail regardless of the material. Math classes should be online since most of the material learned is as such. You cannot apply as an independent student on fasfa If you don’t have a kid, are in the military, married, under 24 or other various reasons. So forget about fasfa even though it’s cheaper than a university.Victoria Powers
