20 Best G.E.D Programs In Tucson, AZ (2022 Updated)

I've never been more successful at another high school before. When I first arrived at Mountain Rose Academy I had a major misconception about this school, however, upon my arrival I was greeted with open arms and an excellent academic course set. I've been able to quickly make up credits due to the opportunity to work at my own pace here. Normal high schools waste quite a bit of time with their inclusion of passing periods and lunch, whereas here at Mountain Rose we are able to get into our work within minutes. After working solidly for five hours I'm free to go home and enjoy my time. Without passing periods and the distractions of other kids disrupting teachers, I feel that on a daily basis I am able to complete more work despite the shorter hours. The software that we work through is thorough and informative, but if I come across something that I need clarification on I have REAL teachers there to help. Mountain Rose Academy allows for each student to learn at their own pace, offers a flexible schedule, and provides the much needed social time that students from online schools miss out on. Mountain Rose Academy is where I feel the most successful and it is where I intend to stay. I recommend Mountain Rose to anyone looking for a change in their schooling.blondie

Mountain Rose Academy does a great job helping students who are behind on credits or who need customized learning experiences. The teachers and staff care greatly about their students. If your student has struggled with school, or is looking for a welcoming environment, you should definitely check out Mountain Rose Academy. I really enjoyed my experience at Mountain Rose Academy. As a 2016 graduate I spent 3 out of 4 of my high school years attending school here. The teachers were amazing – incredibly helpful and usually wonderfully kind. The administrative staff was always willing to provide any support you may have needed. My daughter had a lot of apprehension in going back to school after 2 years away and especially during covid restrictions and they went above and beyond in her summer school program ( from the front desk staff to the teachers and vice principal in summer school program to the principal in her sophomore year) and then consistently have went above and beyond in her sophomore year this year. Graduated from here last year since I kinda messed up my junior year at another school. Very flexible scheduling, curriculum, and teachers. Loved that it was only 4 days a week 5 hours a day. Perfect school for people in my situation and otherwise. Transferring here did not mess up my credits at all unlike what I've heard about some other schools in town. The only thing that changed was my bad GPA started over which I didnt know about until I graduated with honors, so that was a very pleasant surprise.The end is nigh

Really good school, it's better than a traditional school, you can get your work done at your own pace. You can choose your own session to go to and it's only 5 hours so if you have to work in the evening you can go to the morning session and then go to work. Another way it's better than a traditional school like if you missed a day with traditional school then you have to catch up but with this school if you miss a day then you can work at on home and just pick up where you left off.Trenten Crocker

If it wasn't for this school, I never could have graduated. Prior to Compass, the last grade I had attended was 3rd. Taking the leap into high school was terrifying but the wonderful office staff helped me through the entire process of enrolling and figuring out the steps I needed to take to graduate. The amount of patience the teachers had with me was incredible, and I always felt encouraged and supported by everyone. They also never pushed me to go faster than what felt right for me. I never felt judged for being older than the typical freshmen or for lacking certain knowledge of subjects, not even by fellow students. I transferred to Compass at the start of my junior year & I can't thank the staff and student's enough. Everyone is so kind, supportive, & extremely encouraging. Before Compass I had no motivation to go to school, learn, graduate, & the list goes on. But when I transferred to Compass it was truely amazing to go to a school where the staff actually cared about the student's education. If it wasn't for Compass I wouldn't have graduated. The staff never tried to rush me with anything, they helped even when I was to shy to ask, no matter what they were always there. Teachers bend over backwards to help the students as best as they can. Teachers are not provided proper training on dealing with students with high ACE scores. Amin does not support their teachers and tend to treat them as disposable waste. I would not recommend working here, but the teachers are amazing for the students. I would recommend this school for anyone who has a tough time in high school. The teachers here are really helpful and kind and passionate about teaching kids the necessary curriculum in order to graduate. The teachers I would like to thank are Ms. Bergamo and Ms. Romero as well as Ms. Bright for helping me on my journey through highschool. I would like to thank my good friends Mr. Stedwell and Mr. Smith for being there supporting me and giving me helpful advice about life after highschool and making college less scary. It was because of these individuals I was able to accomplish my goal of completing highschool and getting my diploma. They are noble and benevolent and care for the kids and it's because of that I love and respect them. The atmosphere is extremely welcoming and feels like a second family. Its not too bad of a school, I really like it because there's three sessions. Morning, evening and afternoon. You get a break in between which is very helpful because I need to get up and walk around or else I'll fall asleep. No homework! Which is great and I love the fact that you can work from home. Its also at your own pace which is my favorite part because in my public school I was always behind and couldn't keep up. I really like Desert Rose Academy, Mr. Ellis & Mr. Connet are really great! I don't like how we don't get food & we have to be here at 7 in the morning. But we are only here for a short amount of time. Most of the teachers are nice but I don't like they we don't get to sit done and really learn about the lesson we are working on. We are just sat at a computer screen. But the work is mostly easy & we do get lots of help when we need it! I would definitely recommend this school to anyone I can!Akira McCraney

I’ve gotten a total of three services at Empire Beauty by the same student; Kayla. First time I came in I got caramel and blonde highlights in my hair. Kayla did an amazing job and I was super happy with my results. The second service was about two months later. I wanted to go darker because I wasn’t feeling the light hair anymore, so I got black in my hair and only kept a little bit of my caramel highlights. Even though it was extra work and time for Kayla to keep some of my highlights, tone the highlights I left, and color the rest of my hair black, Kayla was in good spirits the whole time. Again, I was super pleased with the results. My third service was actually from this past week. I wanted to get my nails done, and Kayla recommended for me to do gel. This was my first time ever getting fake nails done, but I definitely would do it again. I love the way they turned out. The best part was how accommodating Kayla was to help me decide what I wanted my nails to look like. She showed me different designs, and gave me examples as well as opinions of what she thought would look good on me. I was super excited when my nails were done because they looked amazing! I definitely would recommend anyone who wants to come here to get any services done, to ask for Kayla. It’s nice to have someone who knows what they are doing, and know that they are happy to do it for you. I can tell Kayla enjoys what she does based off of the results and how enthusiastic she is. Even though my services have been time consuming, Kayla made sure to make sure her wolf was perfect. I appreciated when Kayla would ask for help to be certain she was doing my hair right, and to ask for pointers. As a student it’s always important to ask if you are not sure. In planning my only daughter's wedding, we wanted hair and make-up stylists for the bride and bridesmaids but quickly discovered that pricing was not affordable. We then turned to Michelle Sweetapple one of the instructors at Empire and she supplied 5 wonderful girls; Lorena, Uri, Gio, Jessa and Keen. They may have been students but they were total professionals. Our hair and make-up was done so beautifully and my daughter looked like a movie star! Michelle was there to supervise and gave final approval on everything. These girls made the entire wedding party feel confident and gorgeous, I cannot thank Michelle and the girls enough for all their hardwork!!!! I've been here a couple of times and every single time the atmosphere, the students, the teachers, and everyone involved is so pleasant and friendly! They're very careful to get it right with everything they do. I am personally a success story of Sylvan learning from 2006-2008, although from a different site and state. Knowing the signs of a struggling student in my own child I knew I had to get him involved with the program. The pandemic has not made it easy for children to stay in line with their grade although he is not very far behind in his learning he just needs an extra boost to be ready for second grade! The diagnostic test was right in long with what his teacher said he needed to work on and also what I knew which skills he needed to improve on. My son was apprehensive about attending at first. Now he loves going and in only about 15 sessions I have seen his confidence boosted and he is more willing to do his homework with less guidance from me and his dad!Everybody at the Tucson location is inviting and makes learning fun and really helps them learn without them really realizing they are learning! Our child has attended Sylvan for over a year and we have had a wonderful experience! Catherine, Dave and the entire staff at the Marana Sylvan are welcoming, accommodating and flexible. Our child began attending sessions to improve reading skills and as she progressed, they added math topics too. They adjusted the frequency of her sessions based on her progress and mastery of skills and helped her gain confidence in her reading ability. Our daughter was always excited to go to her sessions and the entire staff help motivate her and recognize/reward accomplishments and learning milestones. They are invested in helping your child grow and refine skills, it’s evident from day one. I would like to share with everyone on how wonderful Sylvan Learning Of Tucson has been for my son . My son was struggling with math and after just a few months of tutoring his confidence has increased so much he is just beaming with excitement feeling really good about himself after each session, he has improved so much , The teachers are amazing , so patient , they show him and explain how to solve the math problems, they teach to the individual student needs . My son started at Sylvan at the end of 2nd grade, not quite reading at a 1st grade level. He struggled with both the reading itself and with low confidence in himself. He was easily discouraged and would shut down quickly. Over the summer the tutors at Sylvan were able to bring him out of his shell and help him grow not only as a reader but as a student with the confidence to learn. He has made huge improvements in less than five months, and the Reading Specialist at his school was amazed at his progress over the summer. Lori and George are very kind and friendly. however, their receptionist is rude and unwelcoming. She never says Hi and just comes out stares at you brings your child back and that's it. Never ever have I got a greeting from this lady. It makes me uncomfortable walking in the office. If the tutors weren't as good as they are I would not be taking my child there anymore. My son has improved tremendously since attending Sylvan, He was failing in math and didn't have the right teachers that were willing to help him do better. I visited this place a while ago. I met Master Malm on Facebook. He asked me to visit his Dojang the next time that I was in Tucson. Well, I did and he received me with a smile and after a short introduction he asked me to change and to join the group. His students are very nice. He has all ages working out at various times. Master Malm maintains a friendly atmosphere with professional instruction. I understand that he has been at this place for over 20 years. This gives him a lot of experience. I definitely enjoyed my time at Master Malms Dojang. He has a great group that welcomes as you are one of them right away. I recommend Master Malms “Desert Tae kwon Do” to anybody that wants to learn the right way in a safe atmosphere. He also knows a variety of arts that adds to his repertoire. Other than being a Korean martial arts master he also knows traditional Okinawa Kenpo and kobudo for those interested in something different. He has an extensive collection of Okinawan kobudo Katas. Desert Taekwondo is Fun. My 6 yr old has a blast 3 x a week. Based on principles of integrity, respect, and perseverance. The instructors promote exercise and health. The parents are from evey demographic in Tucson. But all they all have a common goal for they kids they love. Taekwondo is an individual sport learned in a team class envirnoment. They are rewarded with stripes to signify hard work and learned skills. I believe its an important part of my sons life to have an activity not based at his school. He looks forward to classes and is always smiling the whole time we are there. Like many young boys, he needs to burn off lots of energy and needs structure and guidance. I am thankfull for the patience the instructors have for the little ones. My son learns kindness and respect for others as well as cool kicks ans punches!T Forrest

If I knew how to contact you directly I would. Your store on Irvington is one of worst stores i have even seen. It was disgustingly dirty. Junk was tossed in this general merchandise and all pushed out in some nasty carts. Look, I've been to goodwill stores in 37 states and have always enjoyed shopping at them. I've always donated my good used items at goodwills. But would certainly not donate to any store in Tucson just because I wouldn't want to see things treated that way. Not a great experience. Bought two monitors and was told I could try them and if they were not working I could return them within a day to my card. Both monitors had large cracks in the lcd. When my partner went to the store to return them he was told they could only give store credit. They took my original receipts and now I have store credit I’ll never use. Terrible policy.Ash

If I could give it zero stars I would. Why is this school even getting two stars. Kids give you looks and death threats on the daily. You can't ever get away from some of the so called teachers. They follow you around and throw out lunch detentions just for 1 assignment and half of the time it's just another glitch in the system! Studyisland in fact does not help and when teachers assign three bleu ribbons it takes students even longer than thirty mins! Multiple classes are assigned it and they wonder why the missing work count is getting higher! This is ridicloulous look at yourselves and look what a jail you put us in! The guidance counselor wont take a hint and let people be and its insane what they pull out of the brain of theirs! Someone writes and emotional poem and the counselor goes a p e s h i t this is so stupid! Thank god for the one or two amazing teachers there if they werent here this school would be in even smaller peices than it is. They really save the school. Saying that, I feel bad for the two teachers who care beacause they are constantly treated terribly by dissrespectful students and always the last ones reminded of something. Overall it is an ok school. I think people make it out to be better than what it really is. Their Special Ed department has been a joke. My child struggled and was not progressing. We thought we'd give it one more year. They finally got a great teacher for the older kids and my child improved and progressed in ways I never thought was possible there. However TCDS did the unthinkable and did not give this teacher a contract for the following year. Do they want their resource department to suffer?! Not only did they loose a great teacher but they continue not to improve the special ed department. The rooms are small which would make things considerably hard I'm sure. Their technology is outdated (the rest of the school has great up to date technology but they give them computers that are 10 years old). I am taking my child out of this school. If they can't take their special ed department seriously what is the point of going on? I'm so disappointed in this school.Joseph Users

I have been going to Tucson Country Day School since I was in preschool. I love it! I have always had excellent teachers. They make learning fun. We work hard and there are a lot of high expectations but that's okay. I am learning to be proactive, and to put first things first which makes a big difference in how I get my school work done. I am in Middle School now. Student Council is awesome, and so is the Drama Club and STEM club. They are so much fun! And I have some great friends, too. Just visiting to get my daughter moved in for her first year. Spent the day walking around the campus. It is a nice walk with a light rain. Not too hot today. Lots of students, lots of building. The student union is fast food central with all the popular eateries present. Communication with parents could use some improvement. We expected to attend some sessions with my daughter but once we arrived we were informed it was for students only. Closing out the evening watching the marching band in their first public performance. My daughter loves the campus and is looking forward to the start of classes next week.Stacey Brewer

Went to football game and had lots of fun. But I was surprised when I found out the hard way that the concession stands don't take cash. They only take cards. It made it hard because we took cash. Luckily it was a night game because we wouldn't have been able to sit in the sun without water. Also lots of people had to go back to their cars and leave their purses and bags. The Arizona Sands Club is so wonderful. The atmosphere is second to none and the food is phenomenal. Chef Hogg is a master of his trade. I've never had a bad meal here. Unfortunately I am not able to go due to the age cut which is 24 and I'm 29 but I can definitely tell if you are in the age range of 16 to 24 I think it could be a really good program for people especially if you need your high school or GED. It's also nice that they can also help you look for employment as well. They also have guys groups girls groups and a mixture occasionally so if you are in that age range I think it's a great program. But I feel like programs like these need to have more of a variety for people who are a lot older.Justin Lyles

I'll start off by say recently I got laid off from my job, I was always at home wondering what am I going to do so I knew I had to find help so I thought I'd make a visit to TIC I was welcomed into joining a job club that helps you to find jobs. The Front lady Margie and Nick let me know what TIC had to offer so I became involved not only with the job program but different clubs and even going there to workout in their gym I've gotten to know the staff and everyone is very welcoming and very nice There is different things they offer so I'd recommend you to go see if it's something that helps you and get to meet new people there. If you need food assistance they give food boxes,Sisters club AA,walking club, nutrition club,leadership club check it out you never know till you come.Some things they offer is tribal affiliated but some they offer to the public.Lena Sixkiller
