20 Best G.E.D Programs In Salt Lake City, UT (2022 Updated)

As a current student Neumont is great! Neumon has small class sizes, around 30 students, so the teachers really get to know you. You also have multiple classes with the same teachers so they get to learn your learning style to make the material as easy as possible while still being challenging. That being said Neumont isn't for everyone. This school is what I like to call a fire hose of knowledge. Since you are only in a class for a maximum of 10 weeks and have to put an entire semester of knowledge into those 10 weeks the classes go by quickly. There have been multiple weeks where I haven't gotten any free time and have just been working on school projects. Neumont isn't a normal college. If you want the "college experience" of partying, drinking, football games, etc. Neumont definitely isn't that. If you are looking for a school to coast through Neumont isn't that either. I am constantly working on at least 2 projects at any given point, and they all have hard deadlines like the real world. Neumont has a great setting right in the heart of salt lake city which makes going out for lunch/dinner really easy. Its also filled to the brim with nerds so you'll have to get used to that if you aren't already. The teachers also cater the classes to what the students want to learn. One of my favorite teachers will ask if we have questions on with anything we've worked with and bend the class incorporate that thing. An example of this is at the beginning of the quarter most of us, CS students who hadn't done a bunch of group projects, didn't know how to use GIT. So our instructor made an assignment to get us used to the basics of GIT then made most of the projects for the class require groups. This not only taught us the new language we were learning, it also helped us get familiar with GIT. TLDR: Neumont is great if you can keep up. If you aren't willing to give up weeks at a time you will fall behind. If you are willing to do that then you will most likely succeed and have job offerings before you graduate like I have.Jacob Ouellette

It's college… for CS students. I decided that this was not the right career path for me. In Neumont you will start with all the same classes before you choose your degree – there are only five programs here, no joke. The teachers do care about your success and it does help a lot, but many classes do assign student graders/tutors which can be a bit more frustrating to deal with. I had a student grader who would give me a 0 on an assignment and then not re-grade it when it was submitted… Neumont College isn't the right fit for everyone. It's more expensive than the U of U, which is said to have a great CS program. Everything moves a mile a minute starting 2nd Quarter, and the pace can be overwhelming for some people. If you're considering Neumont, I HIGHLY recommend self-studying Java BEFORE you get here so that you can have a much easier time passing CS110 and CS150. I absolutely wish I knew more about programming going in. Furthermore there just aren't that many girls at this school. The nerd culture is strong here though so if you like to play Magic The Gathering, Smash Bros or League of Legends, etc there's a club for you. And even if you don't, everyone will be able to understand you a bit better than normal people would. On a worse note though, the roommates I got apparently saw chores as a foreign concept, so sometimes I ended up doing all the cleaning in every area except the other bedroom and its bathroom…Angel Diaz

2015 NU grad. NU was a good choice for me, but isn't for everyone. NU offered many opportunities to go above and beyond. I highly recommend verifying that coding is interesting before picking NU. If you want a faced paced environment to learn coding that allows going above and beyond then NU might be right for ya. Side notes: I haven't attended any other colleges so I don't have any comparisons original review Currently a student at Neumont. There are some amazing teachers here and lots of opportunity for assistance. Neumont is a for profit college so it isn't cheap, but that also means that it is in their best interest to get their students the best education and into the workforce. On my trip to Utah, I had the opportunity to visit the American School. When I spoke with them, I was convinced to start my process of changing from B2 to F1 status with the school. My visa was about to expire. The school meticulously assisted me in accomplishing each role that is required. The staff is very professional and knowledgeable. I love the classes, the professors are very professional and expert. I am very pleased with my English classes, I am learning a lot. My experience with this school was amazing. First, their method to Yelp you with the language is fantastic. All the teachers and tutors in this school helped me to be more confident with my English with their classes. Just to tell a little bit about my experience here, I was with another type of visa and it was about to expire, so I heard that the owner of this school help students to get their change of status to an F1 visa (student visa) and so I decided to try with him. In the past I saw many lawyers that wanted more money than I can afford (just for their work) plus immigration fees. I had a good experience with him. It was inexpensive and I got my change of status approved. The staff there is very friendly and the teachers are pretty good too. Highly recommend this school.good time

DONNA is AMAZING! She helped me get my boys enrolled in head start and even over zoom they absolutely loved it. She kept contact with me and answered questions whenever I had them. Even when my boys started daycare and we had to leave head start she still kept contact and provided me with assistance even when she did not have to. The new Utah State University regional campus is really nice! It has all new equipment, technology, fast wifi, great design, and LED lighting. If you have been wanting to go to USU but can't live in Logan this is a great option. It has everything thing you need from study areas, snacks, computers Windows and Mac, testing centers, and counselors. The only thing that it is lacking is more face to face class lectures. It uses broadcast classes which is like a big group FaceTime, it's okay but not perfect. Overall I have really enjoyed my time as a student here! 👍👍Eric Hamilton

You get what you pay for. Obviously it will depend on your program, but in my experience most of the course material is outdated and disorganized. Various sources are just tossed together, accumulating over the years like dust bunnies, with almost no attempt to structure them into a coherent whole. Most of the instructors are drowsy and unmotivated burnouts, not committed educators. They are there to “help,” but they really don’t care about the curriculum, much of which is just a waste of time. In general, and despite its much-vaunted “flexible” scheduling, OWTC really does trifle with a student’s time. You will spend most of your scheduled hours reading poorly-written trade manuals and, even worse, clicking through “interactive” learning modules. Far fewer hands-on exercises than you might expect. This place is constantly fiddling with its policies and procedures, too, and to no apparent purpose, other than to irritate you. It took me some time to figure out what’s going on, here, but it’s pretty clear to me now. This is certainly not a community college. It’s not even really a school. It’s NOT somewhere to go to learn how to do something. OWTC performs three and only three functions: (a) it serves as the vocational arm for the area’s high schools, i.e. as a babysitter; (b) it’s a good old-fashioned make-work program for drowsy and unmotivated burnouts; and (c) it allows local businesses and manufacturers to offload its more basic employee training and certification onto the public. All of this is to say that you probably shouldn’t bother with OWTC unless you’re a high school student or you’re already employed in industry and your employer is paying for you to get some BS certificate.a h

Worse experience let’s just put it out there, I went in months ago with my son who had virgin hair and he wanted we got told they can’t do pink they’d need to do purple first and then come back to do pink!! Wrong!! Even with an instructor they didn’t refund us or nothing you’d think with proper education going to this place you’d be fully educated thank god for Paul Mitchelle and my friend who actually has helped us for now 4 months she’s helped his hair I paid double the amount from this school and only sticking to Paul Mitchell and their well educated Instructed with more degrees and not them only wanting my money they give me a proper educated steps on how to do it and keep up on his hair such a waste of time and money and to think I was getting the right services trusting even olderly instructor they don’t know a single thing about taking virgin brown hair to a flamingo pink when my friend has done and she will doing looks like my donated money was needed.Natasha Rivera

Their cosmetology section is amazing! So neat and professional. I loved how there were plenty of instructors to continually check in on the stylists work to ensure a good outcome on your hair. I felt like the stylists were properly trained before working, and had a good extent of knowledge to do damage control on surprise twists and turns along the process. Really great place for kids to keep up or catch up on their math skills. My daughter loves going and feels much more confident in her math skills. I took two classes: The Silk Road which was very interesting and informative. The instructor was very knowledgeable and interacted very well with the class. The other was Professor Steensma on the author Wallace Stegner. It was excellent and gave us so much information about the author and also about his activities in Salt Lake. I've taken gardening design and food and wine classes from Lifelong Learning, project management classes from Professional Education, and design software classes from Technology Education. I can say without a doubt that you can learn anything at Continuing Education and it's always my first stop when I'm looking for a class, whether it's for fun or for work.Jodi Emery

Things are to confusing here and they are always changing the way they do things making it difficult to keep any kind of motivation. I do not recommend to go here if you had a difficult time in high school as a teen. This place makes it hard to want to do school again! I love the U of U!! Since I was a child we played in the fountains at the library. Took classes and enjoyed them very much!! My son got his bachelor's in kinesiology there and loved it. My father got a teaching degree there. My sister got a Pharmacy degree there. My daughter is currently getting an engineering degree there. My sister got a math teaching master's there. After a few conversations through email and phone call I was advised to come in anytime to get some additional information regarding the nail tech program and talk to student services. I did go in a few weeks ago I was excited to get more information I talked to Jennifer P and I have never felt more unimportant in my entire life every question I asked she said you can find that on our website , she basically gave me no answers and seemed to be rushing me off if anything . I have been a student at Davis tech for almost two years at this point. I have loved it! I am in the medical coding and billing program and am getting ready to take my licensing exam in October. The staff have been so kind and helped me in any way they could when things were a bit rocky in the beginning. they were patient and understanding when I was coming to school at the time when I was planning my wedding. all in all I have loved my time as a student of this institution. Terrible work experience. The DTC staff will completely lie to you in your interview to get you in the door. Management won’t bother to show you how to do your job. Then, management will have the nerve to tell you that you’re not performing properly!! I’ve been reading in the comments that students don’t receive proper instructions or help from instructors as well. I guess it’s typical business practice for the DTC. I don't know where or how to start. I a disabled veteran, and I feel like I have been overlooked, dismissed and uncared for. I failed the driving test 3 times, twice at the hands of their "head instructor". I get that I didn't do everything right, which ultimately resulted in a fail. What I am talking about is the apathy shown byMr. Reid. Two weeks ago, he told me that we had to reschedule, after missing two prior appointments, one, die to cold weather, the next due to lack of staff. Here I sit, two weeks later, with no appointment, having heard nothing from him or MTEC. I am very disappointed in how they treated me. I'm a senior now, And I was trying to resume working after back surgery. Instead I get to find a way to pay for a private tester. I have no fear of that. But I will not be recommending MTEC to anyone,and will let the VA and voc rehabilitation the truth about MTEC's trucking programRicky Colson

Be aware that in general trucker schools take in too many people, take their money, give them little practice time & push them out the door when they can't master driving in a few days. Next, of course they won't let them take the driving test even if they passed the written part. It's happening all over the country. MTech is not the worst offender, they are supposed to be better about this than some schools, but nevertheless, buyer beware. They were kind enough to grant me a refund, but I am told that is not the rule and I also had to submit a petition. I think the instructors made an attempt to be fair about everything, but in my opinion there still there was not enough hours behind the wheel for maximizing safety and securing that the regular student will pass with flying colors.Rex Biggers

My son signed up for an emissions test prep class (that it very unfortunately seems only MTEC offers). They sent him no info what-so-ever as what classroom or even what building it was in. He showed up and there were no signs either. He found several other people looking for the same class, one of which had tried to both call and email his instructor several times before the class with no response. They finally found a teacher who told them what class it was in, and they went to that room, to find it empty and the door locked. So, we changed him to the next class. He got an email AN HOUR before the class was supposed to start, 8 minutes before he due to leave to get there on time, that it was canceled.Misty Thompson

Well overall not impressed with the school. Ive tried to irk through the work they gave me in my class that is suppose to be at my own pace but its not. Your rushed and kinda feels like a bootcamp kinda program when you need to slow down and actually understand the information presented. If you didnt do it in the time they allotted, you had to pay for the class again…doesnt exactly seem like at your own pace. Most of the work was via third party websites even if you were in the classroom that as someone that has experience in the field but just going back for my certs…its rage inducing. Simulations that dont work right, which I have sent emails, screenshots, even videos to the company running the site and pretty much never respond beyond some cookie cutter response. When you take a chapter test in the website and miss a question it does kinda a poor job on telling you why it messed it. I noticed the book they used is about 2-2.5 years behind. Their hours are 8-8 m-f which kinda is bad. Most people have jobs during the week which kinda forces you to take whatever time you can fit it in to keep your pell funding because they are not open on the weekends. Never seen tech/community college be closed on the weekend when thats when people try and do the school work. While the teacher is responsive and tries to be helpful, it kinda feels like hes stuck in the same system I am knowing that its set up is kinda backwards. I would say if you have experience, this will leave you banging your head against the wall. If you dont, and dont have a job during the week, it will be okay. As for me I am prob just going to do first half get two of my certs and move on. It makes my blood pressure go up too much to do it anymore, its the first time in 3 years i actually had to buy a pack of cigs to deal with my frustration.Jason Bourne

I would not recommend this school to anyone. Although the programs may be good the administration is not. I interviewed for a position with tooele tech and was personally asked by Mark Aiken how do I deal with conflict in the classroom. I had explained my methods and that the students are not only training for a certificate or license but for an adult career path. There will be people you do not like and you will need to be professional and work with them anyhow. I was congratulated on my response and how align it was with their goals of the program. I was offered the position and when a student cane forward with a hear say disliking Mark Aiken personally declined his offer to me. I was not only disappointed as I was looking forward to starting at the facility but more disappointed that Mark values revenue over integrity at this facility. Id like to be associated with a better company and surround myself with better people than that.K R

My hair broke off in clumps. Frizzled broken hair after going in for a basic bellyage. Ends are green ashy color. I chose warm, caramel colors. Instructor was present and consulted throughout, but when the ends of my hair broke off in 1.5 to 2.5 inch random segments she said, "maybe just cut it off?" Then she tried to charge me for ruining my hair. She said "well the top part still covered your roots", So, stupidly I paid for that part but when i got home and looked closer the girl didn't even cover my roots all the way. Horrible horrible disaster. A year of growing out my hair just ruined and no offer to fix or not charge at least. Terrible experience of hair being ruined 6 inches up, and i paid for it!Emily Johnson
