20 Best G.E.D Programs In Phoenix, AZ (2022 Updated)

I've had a wonderful experience here, and I've been to 2 other universities. The faculty & professors all actually care about you as an individual. Your life outside of class and your goals matter to them. Class size is small! I've never been in one bigger than about 13. You'll start to recognize faces, and it's easy to make friends & find friendly mentors. There are so many helpful outlets to apply for scholarships and other aid. Tutoring is free and convenient hours for it. Also, very helpful transfer experts who assist you in going to ASU, if that's a goal of yours. My only complaint is that sometimes a class doesn't fill up enough, while it's taking enrollment, so then they have to cancel the class if not enough interest. But I would definitely recommend coming here — I'd say it's the ideal community college.McKenzie Wilkins

South Mountain has the greatest and most diverse students and it is a joy to teach them. I always look forward to the start of the semester when my classroom fills with great gifts, ready to learn. Its seems as though the entire community is represented, young, old, every color, faith, culture, awesome vets. I teach CIS105, Survey of Computer Information Systems, and have never used a textbook, nor do my students have to purchase any software.. As a futurist, I enjoy preparing my students for their future. My students end their semester with me with a professional portfolio of their work from throughout the semester which is their own to keep.Laurita Moore

As a student and student worker this college exceeds every expectation I could have ever had for Community College and my first Community College. Advisors are Hands-On and want you to succeed. They will work with you and all types of ways to see succeed and do well. And they look into all possible resources to help you through your college experience in any way possible. They also have free counseling services, tutoring, disability resources, scholarships and grants, student life and so much more it's amazing. The level of frustration I have with the financial aid office right now is uncalled for. For two months now, TWO MONTHS I have been attempting to get my financial aid straightened out for the last class I need for my degree. I’ve gone in several times and spoke directly to someone in financial aid, I’ve spoke to someone almost weekly over the phone and now I’m almost two weeks into this class and NOW they tell me I won’t be getting financial aid for this one class. I’ve filled out and had approved form after form, have notifications in my student center stating I will be getting awarded for this class and only this class and now they tell me nope sorry you’re not enrolled in enough credits. What?!!! How many people have opened my account and saw this was the only freaking class I was in?!! Why have me jump through so many hoops if I wasn’t even eligible in the first place? Zero help or communication from anyone in the financial aid department. I urge anyone thinking of going to any Maricopa school to go else where this behavior is consistent across every college within the system. I’m a working single mother, I don’t just have $300 lying around to pay for classes, which is why I applied for financial aid! Thanks for waisting my time and energy for absolutely nothing. One of the worst customer services I've had to deal with. I bought 15$ dollar headphones and I wanted to return them the same day because they couldn't plug into the school computers. I had ask (in the most generous way) if I could get my money back and get different headphones. I just wanted to do my homework on the school computers. Joana (the lady working at the store) stated that " you can't return these headphones. Once you open them you can't refund them". In my head, I thought to myself ' Any student that opens a textbook can't get their money back even if it's the wrong textbook'? When I first purchased these the same day, she didn't even give me a receipt. she just said thanks & went back on her phone. However, I walked back into the store and then stated that " On the receipt that you didn't give me the first time coming to bookstore stated that "Non-Textbook items may be returned within 30 days of purchases. She then stated that "It doesn't cover all scenarios and situations" She then proceeded to play on her mobile device. Never go to this bookstore unless you want the employees to ignore you.Joseph Perrine

Giving negative stars should be an option. Followed the class plan to get my psychology degree given to my by one counselor only to be told that was wrong the semester I was set to graduate. Got another plan from a different counselor paid out of pocket to take the psych course I WAS TOLD THAT WAS ALL THAT WAS NEEDED, confirmed I completed ALL necessary classes, took time to walk across the stage. When months went by and I hadn't gotten my degree I reached out only yo find that counselor was no longer there and the math class she said I didn't need yo get my degree was needed BUT they don't offer that class anymore. Person I spoke with tried to brow beat and guilt trip me into taking a basic degree. I didn't spend 12k to NOT get the degree I signed up for on day 1. This is a deceptive practice forcing students to taken more classes they don't need because your counselor screwed up 2 OF THEM!!! Shame on you for not owning your mess up and making it right.G H

Not too bad of a school overall — class and professor wise. However, the enrollment and financial aid staff are horrible. Terrible and irritating process to get you set up with everything. This was back when I first started going there in 2012. Not sure if anything has improved or not. They were also VERY understaffed at the time. It took me so long to graduate as well because I would get mixed instructions from different counselors. You never get the same counselor twice. Granted I made it in 2 years but I did have to do summer classes because of the 'changes' that kept happening with my degree. The counselors are not very well trained with each degree program. It's best to literally ask your professors about it or you can get a better understanding from counselors at the University you want to attend later. The teachers I had were phenomenal! Just wish the main office staff were better at their jobs.Caitee Proulx

When we got there we weren't sure if we were going to have a really long wait in line but no what we found was the nicest people posted at the cones that they had set up for the direction you were supposed to go in. They gave excellent information and instruction and we had absolutely no problem getting through our checkpoints which they did check that you had an appointment and verified some information and then we went right straight on through and there was one car in front of us getting an injection and it just took a minute and they drove off and we pulled up and they gave us our vaccines. There were two of us in the car we both had appointments and again everyone was just really super nice very knowledgeable about what was going on. They knew their job and they did it very well. This campus is amazing and not nearly as sprawled as any of the other community colleges/universities. The engineering, mathematics, computer science, and physical science (chem/bio/physics) classes are top notch. The smaller classes sizes means you're getting more personal attention and education than ANY of the universities for any of your classes. I really mean that. Also, there is always decent parking, since the buildings are all in the center (for now). I would have finished my degree here, but it was way too far when I lived in central PhoenixLloyd Allen

I would not recommend this school, I am truly and whole heartedly regretful of choosing this school over all of the other options I had. Something about this school stood out to me, and the counselors here try really hard to get you in. I do not identify with Christian faith and I am not religious at all so I initially felt weird about going to this school, but they mention multiple times that they accept all faiths and backgrounds so I felt better. However, upon talking their forced “Christian Worldview” class, the teacher grades with an iron fist for a 101 class and is just awful. My GPA for sure was going to plummet due to this stupid 101 class that they force on you. Honestly it was so ridiculous that I felt the need to reach out to my advisor. I was trying to come up with a solution because I felt some type of way about this. I suggested them placing me with a different teacher, since this teacher has AWFUL reviews going back years yet they do nothing about it. However they pretty much told me I still had to take the class, I could not switch to another teacher (you cannot pick your own teachers by the way which is huge for me now). Their only solution was that “another teacher would review my work.” This turned me off so bad from the entire school that I ended up withdrawing due to principal which messed up my financial aid. They honestly did not care one bit and obviously know there is a problem but do nothing to address it. I was so turned off that I chose to mess up my financial aid and just pick another school, there was no way that I was finishing out my degree here after this. Go elsewhere !!Taylor

I am an Atheist. I chose this college because it had the focus I was looking for, the delivery method was fully online so I could continue to work, and the price was the best around. I did not feel like being of the Christian faith was a prerequisite. My instructors and professors were not pushy with religion, and for a master's program, I felt like I was able to learn what was necessary for the field I was in. I have a Master's degree and 2 focuses now from GCU and I couldn't be happier with my education and experience. The guidance counselors were great, the financial aid process was easy, and I'm grateful for GCU and all they have done for me.April Wittmeyer

Parking in Garage building#7 on 33rdAvewas the best for going into the areana. We had to checkin at theguard station, drive around it then enter the parking garage. Parking was allowed on the 2ndfloor and above. It was the AFHE homeschool senior graduation. The campuswas very green. The areana was building #38 there is a museum to JERRY COLANGELO here and a beautiful tripple cross monument. The restrooms are spacious and everything but the soap dispensers are automated. As someone who isn’t from the USA and relocated from United Kingdom , it was important that I made the correct choice when it came to education in the United States , after doing my research and reaching out to different schools who have a massage program I chose gateway because from the first contact with Mr Tapscott he was super friendly , passionate and helpful , he made sure I had all the information I needed and he directed me to the right place to complete my registration to the program . The price is amazing and they definitely can charge way more for the service they provide , gateway and especially Mr Tapscott made the process so easy and comfortable . My first day of class was so welcoming and they went the extra mile to make sure I/ we students were comfortable , I had the best experience at gateway and this experience was due to my fellow classmates but mostly for the teachers attitude and pride in teaching , Mr Tapscott , ms bouer, and mr Ybarra were amazing , they are so good at what they do and the effort and dedication they put in to each and every student sets them apart from any other education opportunity I’ve taken , we created a family and this includes the teachers , they allowed us to learn at our own pace and didn’t disrespect us , they encouraged us , the material in the program was inspiring and the method of teaching made the learning fun , it was a pleasure to go to gateway for the 9 months of the program and I looked forward to seeing my teachers and classmates everyday throughout the course , the program allows for Externship which gives us the opportunity to work with others in the community also work with employers of massage therapy , it gives you an insight to what to expect after the program . This in my option gives you the experience and confidence to be successful in your future , I love Mr Tapscott and is in my opinion an amazing teacher , a kind , honest , trustworthy person who has pride in his work , he has a pride for everything he does or talks about , I couldn’t of asked for a better college to attend and I am blessed to be apart of the experience and to see people who are passionate about what they do to improve peoples lives . I felt included and that I had a voice within this experience. Today I am a massage therapist after attending this program I’m excited to go into the community prepared and ready and that is all thanks to gateway and Mr Tapscott , thank you so much for everything, thank you for the experience you create , thank you for the love you give , your an amazing guy sir . I recently graduated from the Massage Therapy Program at Gateway. Mr. Tapscott and his team were the most supportive, inspirational, knowledgeable and humorous group of instructors I have ever studied under. Mr. Tapscott taught the online portion of the course that was heavily weighted in anatomy, physiology and introduction to massage therapy. Mr. Tapscott was always offering assistance to students and following up on financial aid, GI Bill funding, finding places to do externships, or assisting with any other issues the students may have faced. The lab portions of the class were taught by Mr. Ybarra and Ms. Bauer, both experienced massage therapists, both dedicated to successful outcomes for all the students. Mr. Ybarra is known for his demonstrations on various massage and stretching techniques during labs. All three instructors shared a great many stories of their experiences in the massage industry. This team of teachers worked very well together and created an environment where the students felt proud to be part of the class and continuously improved in their massage skills through out the course. Each teacher has a great sense of humor, will be direct if there are issues to address but they are always respectful and professional. The program was also the start of many long lasting friendships and a successful future in the massage industry for myself. I highly recommend the Gateway Massage Therapy Program for anyone that has a desire to improve peoples lives.Kathleen Dimitruck

DO NOT ATTEND THIS SCHOOL!!! I have been attending this school for a while. When I had enrolled I wasn’t given proper information. I do online school and I’ve been struggling with math and biology and to my surprise the instructors do not put the effort in to help other students online. I went in to speak to an advisor and low and behold she didn’t help either. I have a learning disability and stated that information to the advisor and the best answer she gave me was “unfortunately we don’t have special services for students who have disabilities” I’m in the process of getting my associates degree in DMS and no advisors informed me before I started the program that I needed to take an HESI Exam. Another thing is for students who do the online classes, students have to their webcams on to take the tests/quizzes but don’t require it during other class time such as completing assignments. IM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THIS SCHOOL!!! THERE IS NO HELP WHAT SO EVER AND DONT HELP STUDENTS SUCCEED!! DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!!! And because I struggle in math, I’ve tried free Tutoring and they only available for an hour and if you need more time you need to make a new appointment. An hour gets 3 questions done and they still don’t walk you through the process.Monica Balderrama

Mesa has a lot of great classes and opportunities but there are major issues. The sign up process for classes is confusing, many of the pathways online that are supposed to show you the courses you need for degrees are incorrect. Of course you should contact advisors to figure out which classes you need, but it is nearly impossible. There are so few advisors and very little availability. As of right now it asks you to make in person appointments with them and yet there are never any slots open. You can email advising which takes 2-3 days to get a response. You can try and call their office and wait on hold for an hour just to eventually get hung up on. It is in no way the advisors faults, anyone I have actually been able to contact has been as helpful as possible, but it is so hard to get a response or any help. I signed up for courses that the online pathway said I needed only to find out that they weren't actually necessary for my degree and others were. When I went to drop the courses and add the new ones it wouldn't let me because I owe money for the courses I am still enrolled in that haven't even started yet. So, I cannot sign up for the correct courses, have no clue which classes I actually need and cannot find advisors to help. I understand during the pandemic it is difficult for universities to find staff and help, but even before COVID Mesa was still just as inefficient. Mesa just needs to improve their communication and assistance with students, it would solve so many issues.Taylor Pouncey

MCC has a fantastic non-credit program for older adults: NFLL, or New Frontiers for Lifelong Learners. For an extremely reasonable fee, I sign up for as many of the program's classes as I please. They're online, in-person, or a mix of the two. There are also some field trips; we've just gone to a free day at the Desert Botanical Gardens, and next week there will be a trip to the new one in Queen Creek for a fee. A class on WW2 planes had a trip to Falcon Field, etc. Over the last few years I've taken classes in history, tech, health, music, and much more! There are also groups for discussion, playing games, hiking for 3 different levels, etc., as well as social and service activities. In-person classes are at MCC Mesa and Red Mtn campuses usually. Some classes have been through Great Courses, and many lecturers are former teachers/professors or experts in their field. Check it out–great program at low price! Update: on-campus classes are so easy to get to: it's a small campus (either Dobson or Red Mountain), and the free parking is ample and easily accessible.Natalie Satterthwaite

So I just signed up today.. I think which is the problem. There’s like 5 people sitting at a desk “helping” people get set up but they did absolutely nothing to help me get signed up they didn’t tell me I couldn’t sign up for my class the same day as I walked in and told them exactly what class I wanted and that I never attended college before. They don’t tell me it’s some weird 24 hour wait for the account to start working and they also did not at all clarify to make sure to take the student photo because now that I chose to skip that because NOBODY helped me I’m unable to finish my application lol hice apparently if I don’t finish in 48 hours will be deleted? They also didn’t tell me that. So this has been an absolutely awful experience thus far and I haven’t even been able to join a class yet.Ryan Jorgensen

This school is the best one I have ever been to. It may be small, but here, you are a person, not a number, or a warm body that they need to help before they can collect your tuition check. The staff here actually cares – each and every one. The campus is beautiful, and parking is not that bad. the the class sizes are so small, my largest class in my 3 semesters here was 15 people. I only have one down-side. this little gem of a college sits at the top of a beautiful, but large and steep hill, so if you plan on riding your bike here, lol, expect to be in the best shape of your life. ha ha!! but yeah, great place. Registered for classes, went in for counseling counselor said she had no idea what kind of class I could or should take. went online to log in, my initial password didn't work, IT fixed the problem right away. logged in and STILL couldnt register for classes, system said I had a hold on my account. Can't look at classes until I meet with a counselor, called the counselor to ask to get hold taken off, a week later they managed to find someone that could do so over the phone.Brent Bay

The pros are that the staff are generally very helpful and friendly. Parking is good. The professors are very hit or miss. One of my instructors this semester was a good guy and kept the material interesting. The other instructor was terrible, I don't think he should be teaching at all and he had a sour attitude. The two campus are kind of far apart and the main campus doesn't have a library so that is somewhat inconvenient. But they both seem to have good bus access.Scilla Burton

I have a mobility scooter because I can't walk very well anymore. This scooter is electric and I don't go very far on it as it has a limited range. The park I go to some times is far (in a wheelchair). I cut through the north campus parking lot 100's of yards from any building to save some battery. I felt dejected today when I was accosted by one of the campus police telling me to leave as is a closed campus. It did not feel like it was for my safety as much as him exerting his authority. I was just cutting the corner of the campus away from anyone. Edit: This happened around noonish on the same day I posted. I decided to take 2 classes this semester, both in person classes. One started in September and the other in October. My September class is amazing! I love the teacher and the curriculum. My October class was switched to online only days before it was supposed to start- I paid and signed up for an in person class specifically, and was not notified by anyone that it had been moved to online, leaving me with one day to find another class, or bite the bullet and do an online class. Very unhappy with the communication of the school.carly

They are a horror story. 2018 I applied for being a personal trainer. They put me in a weird stack of classes including world religion and other classes. They said I can't change no matter a student advisor's mistake. When I dropped classes they claimed I owed them almost $400 for their mistake and out a freeze on my FAFSA.Scandy Italian Ice

I went here for the welding program and I’m very disappointed with my experience. I finished top 3 in my class and left not feeling ready for the real world. I found that instructors often contradict eachother. Mario is the only competent instructor, the other instructors, especially Sam have bad attitudes about welding and are seen outside of the class room hanging out most of the time. I heard a lot of good things about instructor Larrison Smith from both students and the online reviews, he was working morning classes until RSI fired him. Being from the afternoon class we had Mario teaching half the class and then after that we were left with the inexperienced instructors that are not good at teaching. It seemed like students from the morning class got the best treatment as far as having everything they needed to succeed. Most of my welding knowledge has came from YouTube since there’s too many students for good 1 on 1 time. I had all of my welding equipment stolen and had 0 help replacing them. Numerous times they run out of material to weld on and a majority of them are cut out very poorly. When it came time to start welding stainless steel and aluminum (which is what I wanted to do the whole time I was at school) we were told to get our pieces from the trash, which it’s all warped, dirty, and filled with weld already. This school is way too over priced for the information and training you get, and I would highly recommend looking into another school.Nich Palencia

RSI is a great school to attend if you want to learn something new, in a different field. Its all up to you and how you want it to work for you. The instructors do an awesome job at keeping their students in line and on track to graduate. Being part of the first set of classes to go through the program and graduate (aug 2018). We had a lot of bumps with having to learn to weld outside in the sun in an empty space for a couple weeks. Haha then having a string of other instructors that didnt last long. L. Smith did his best to teach all of his students in the welding class. As a class we all did our part to help each other with as much guidance as we need from Larrison and Eric. Would highly recommend these two to anybody that wants to learn how to become a welder!! 👌Amber Purley

Awesome instructors, awesome atmosphere, awesome school. I decided in my 40's that I wanted to go back to school. I had been managing restaurants but always had a passion for working different forms of construction, remodeling, etc. I decided this was the perfect opportunity for me, and I couldn't have been happier with my decision to attend R.S.I. If you are considering a career change, or looking for your first start towards a solid, lucrative career in an industry that is all but guaranteed to grow every year, then this should be your choice too. My advisor was Sharon, you can call the school and talk with her, or any of the other advisors and they will give you a tour and answer any questions you might have. I don't know where to begin. Being frustrated and feeling as though I am giving the runaround, trying to get my diploma and trying to get my official transcript from a school that never answers a phone call during business hours. I never had to rely on a voicemail message to get back in contact with me due to miss understanding of phones calls. I have set up a payment arrangement back in May 2021, and I was told that if I miss a payment out of six months I will have to start all over again. I have been making payments and unfortunately was told that I missed three payments but look at my account and I see they're taking money out of my account. But still won’t give me my diploma. The staff is very rude and have not sympathy or compassion about the students other are trying to make something out of themselves in life. Talking to the staff is like hopping and excepting. Staff that not willing to work with you to try to help me. I've been only help by Miss Sherry, which I was told no longer works there. She's been the only person helping me getting my diploma and trying to get everything situated. I feel frustrated disappointed disgusted and hurt that I can't even depend on the school that I thought would help me succeed in life. This is hurtful and I would not wishes upon no one else. I work so hard live alone have no family here and you're telling me that I can't get any of my transcripts or I can't get my diploma because you guys messed up on your end and you're making me suffer which is not right and unacceptable. As much as I talk about you guys school and the staff that helps me and for someone to sit there and make me feel as though it's my fault is unacceptable. Question would you want to recommend a school to someone? For me at this point I will say no because I see that they're not even trying to help at all but take my money and won't give me my diploma or my transcripts I need to speak to someone and the corporate office as a CEO or CFO that can help meMoquatin Washington

If I could give 0 stars, I would. Every campus that I have spoken to someone on the phone has been rude and dismissive and not willing to help… I attended the nursing program in 2016…completed one semester…and had to withdraw from the second (before it started) because My son was having health issues. They told me to come back whenever I wanted that they would gladly accept me back into the program where I left off… which was absolutely not true! When I tried to go back….i was told I could be accepted into the current semester…Which would have been fine except….they were changing the curriculum the following semester…Which if I would have gone back would have forced me to start all over again…. Also, When I asked If I would be able to have a financial credit for the first semester that I completed because they changed the curriculum, I was told to speak with the head of the nursing dept and then she told me that was a question for financial aid who then referred me back to the nursing dept head…and they both said that they couldn’t help me. Don’t waste your time nor effort here. $24,000 down the drain for absolutely nothing! And not only that, But when you try to have your transcripts sent, it takes forever to actually get a hold of someone…and with the rude staff on the phone at every single campus it’s ridiculous!Melissa Kloess

I’m so happy I came across the Arizona College of Allied Health on google. I requested to receive more information about the college and not even a few days later I get a text from Justin. Justin was very nice and gave me so much information that helped me decide this was the college for me. Before I came here I was at Community Colleges for the last 5 years completing only prerequisites not even in a program yet. When Justin told me I would graduate next year in July getting my DA diploma I was beyond excited. I can’t thank Justin enough for all his help. I just got done with my first track passing all my classes. I could have not done it without Ms. Vosteen. She is the best teacher I’ve ever had at all the schools I’ve been to. I am going to miss being in her classes but I am so excited to continue my journey. From making the appointment to the end results was an amazing experience. I've never been to a cosmetology school to get any service. I was referred by a business colleague to Lauren Cone. I am a bit handicapped after having foot surgery and she made sure to address those needs as well. I had a foil in color, cut and flat iron. The conversation throughout was spot on and she was great as the stylist that did my hair. Overall, my experience was phenomenal. She was thoughtful and didn't just whip through the process. Sofia did such a beautiful job with my hair. It started out with my normal brown color and I told Sofia I wanted to add color in my hair. She recommend we do peekaboos, I told her I wanted 7 because that’s my lucky number. She did seven peekaboos added so many pretty colors in my hair and then we did money pieces in the front, split colored pink and purple! Extremely happy with how my daughters hair came out when done by Leyla R. I am in LOVE with this school. Before this school, i had gone to 2 different community colleges and 1 university all for different things. I kept failing, and felt like i was at my lowest and I felt as though I would never succeed at anything because I thought I was too dumb. I am 23. So I was frantically trying to figure out what to do. March 28, 2022 I dropped out of college for the last time. A couple days later, I came to UEI, did a tour, fell in love, and enrolled in Dental Assisting. I came in knowing next to absolutely NOTHING about dental. I was scared! I usually get horrible grades in school, I graduated high school in 2017 with a barely passing GPA. I started 3 weeks later on April 26, 2022. Let me just say, I just started my FIFTH month of school already and each month I've been here, I've gotten HONOR ROLL! I couldn't believe it. I am thriving so well in this school and every single employee and student I've met are so nice. We are all like a giant family. If it wasn't for Marcella in the office or how good this school is, I wouldn't be at this school. Marcella gave me my first impression of this school, and It was fantastic. She is the nicest woman I've ever met and she hypes me up! I have an interview coming up for a dental assistant position! I have learned so much at this school. I know so much now. Mr. Davis is an EXCELLENT instructor. Class is never boring with him around. I am a hands on and visual learner, so I never get bored or tired in class. But in high school, or my previous colleges, I got sleepy after sitting at the desk for 30 minutes. I am thriving at this school, and I'm honestly so sad that I will be done by January. I go to Externship in 2 months and I am HYPED.Nicole Marie

UEI in Phoenix Arizona is a joke! The HVAC program is not organized. The instructor is always out. It is not enough hands on. They make you pay while your in school and then you have to turn around and pay for the other loans after you graduate. I get it after you graduate, but while your in school trying to better yourself is insane! And it is not cheap.You can never get a professional person on the phone. The job fair was horrible! The medical program is what makes UEI, but he HVAC program is horrific! My son is honor roll haven't missed a beat, he has honor roll certificates all over the house. He comes home discouraged and when I here him sayI went to school for nothing it feels like he is wasting all this time and money and have not learned anything, But the minimum. Most of his learning is online more than hands on. this is a hands on job.. Why so much online.you certainly can't learn by someone talking all the time. At the rate UEI is going.I wonder will he be able to find a job when he graduate. He was once excited maybe two months in. Then afterwards his whole attitude changed. I encourage all who is deciding to get in this program. Please take your time and check out other colleges and make sure the instrucror is there and make sure your child does not have to worry about paying on a loan while in school. this is very frustrating to the student.. There's something suspicious about the financial aid disbursement at this school. I haven't figured it out but I know when I started here I had my own home and 2 cars and that was in Feb of 2021. I still haven't received my certificate yet for medical billing and coding and I now am homeless living in a shelter with my daughter We have absolutely nothing and I receive harassing phone calls almost everyday from corporate stating I owe $3000 I wish I would've never enrolled here at this school. I just want my certificate already it's long overdue but I can't seem to finish my externship hours because there's one thing after another that stops me Personal opinion, THIS SCHOOL IS A JOKE AND A FRAUD Go to another school not this one It's just been a disappointment for me, I feel like I went to school studied so hard for absolutely nothing This school hasn't helped me better my life one bitPaulette Mendoza

Deb Boyd: I am Admin Mgr and likely the first person you will meet when you come to Sylvan. The main focus at Sylvan is to work with each student to master the skills that they are lacking. To encourage and to be supportive of their accomplishments while making progress in their programs. Here they are shown the importance of school and have ownership in their outcome. One of the ways we encourage them, is to bring in report cards each grading period to be recognized for their accomplishments. Our teachers are great with each one bringing a unique flavor to the teaching table. I each day upon the arrival of each student, greet them by name and ask how their day was, which I then ask about the other school activities they are involved in i.e. band, drama, dance or sports. All of this goes to making a well rounded individual. For me, it is amazing what interaction each day does to boost their self confidence and to let them know that they are valued.William Boyd

Our daughter is right at the age where she turns 5 after the school year starts, but could test to start kindergarten early. We brought her into Sylvan to help her gain some confidence in the learning environment and a stronger grasp on her alphabet and simple reading skills. Her tutors were absolutely amazing at identifying what she needed to work on and made learning fun for her! She wanted to practice all she was learning with us every chance she got! Thanks to the great atmosphere Sylvan created around learning and the encouragement they offered our daughter, she went into her early entrance exam with confidence and was one of the very few students who passed! We could not recommend them enough for parents and caregivers who want to supplement their child’s learning!Aaron Anderson

One of the most important things children gain from their time at Sylvan is the confidence that they can work hard and achieve their goals. I can't tell you how many times the only thing standing in the way of my students' success is that they don't think they're capable of learning or understanding something. Not only does Sylvan target the specific skills that students may be missing, but they encourage and inspire students to take control of their own education, and have confidence in their abilities. We found out about LDI at an AZ Assist meeting and my son and I started attending monthly speaker series meetings. My son was completely frustrated with previous educational experiences and had quit an online school but became interested in what he was learning about LDI so he spoke with admissions and let them know his concerns and they urged him to set up a meeting with the husband of the ownership team. It was the first time I had known my son to "want" an education. Here we are a year later and my son has learned so much. He uses public transportation, he is an exceptional student, and he is about to start his first job. LDI works with their students to garner independence and set and reach their goals. Everyone you encounter from the office manager to the student advisors are genuine and willing to assist the students set and meet their goals. LDI offers an educational experience with self driven life skills and opportunities to attend fun events and give back to the community. It's a great place!Melanie Calhoun

The Post-Secondary Program at LDI continues to provide the support my daughter needs on an ongoing basis. I am more than pleased with the program and staff, as it has been a life changer. She entered the Secondary Program with issues that seemed unsurmountable at the time, and seamlessly transitioned into the Post-Secondary Program. She has emerged as a competent young adult who has completed college, is presently employed, with a future of accomplishment ahead of her. It is doubtful that she would be where she is now if not for the engaged and caring staff at LDI.Robin McKay

My son spent 3 years in LDI. He was resident for his last year and a half. He made positive strides in maturity and personsl interactions. Before LDI he was arrested twice, since then he has learned to control himself better. He held a job for the last two months of school. My son was diagnosed with ADHD, but had other issues. These were the best grounding years of his life. Without LDI there is no telling what bad things could have happened. My son is not perfect and either am I, but now we both have more of a chance.Tom Windsor

A couple of friends of mine and I have all went there with our parents (at different times) and nobody has ever been more disrespectful with us than Cynthia Tobin, Patricia Glover, and Ronald Nazareth. (Yes, I'm bringing up their names) They will accuse you of being suicidal or even homicidal and they send you to Aurora behavioral health (which is against the rules at JFCS), but if you're there, quit going while you can because they embarrass you in front of everyone else in the waiting room with information that's nobody else's business. 😫 AWFUL! Amazing facility! Staff really goes above & beyond for their clients. I got my ged for free threw them years back, as well as they paid for my cna. They offer tutors, job programs, clothes, food boxs, free bus passes, life/skill classes, etc. I gained a lot of knowledge & skills to help me be successful prior to turning of age. Not many of these out there, I recommend them to any one who has aged out of the state system.Cassie Scott
