I am in my sixth week taking online courses at MATC. I have chosen the IT Support Associate Degree program, for two reasons: One the program is only two years, I’ll be able to launch into the job market faster, and because IT is such a diverse, and fast growing career path, I know I will find a fit into the IT world upon graduation. I chose MATC because MATC is convenient and conventional. I can take classes online, at my own pace, and be on campus for the classes I need more focus and dedication to. This IT program combined with my 10 plus years customer service experience, I know I will be able to reach any career goal I set. Now, while my interest in computers and knack for problem solving I know this career path will be suitable for me, however, to any prospective student looking for a quick money type of career, this program is not for you. This program consists of lots of physical and mental work, also taking consideration of the customers you are serving. If a prospective student welcomes challenges and is comfortable with asking questions and not feeling intimidated by the mass amount of information you will retain then this is a program for you. Prospective students should also be aware that they don’t have to work or figure stuff out alone, one of my favorite accommodations is having access to tutoring, whether online or in person- at all campuses. Fellow future students should also know that acquiring their degree at MATC is a smart money move, students can save thousands of dollars getting their education here, as opposed to a four year college/university. Information Technology is very informative program. This program breaks down a lot of things that can happen with computer systems. It is a to-date program. I choose this program because I want to go more in depth with technology. Everyone uses technology every day. I would like to be able to assist those who are not tech savvy. MATC I.T support program has a great path program. Pathway allows you get a few certificates take a break and come back for your diploma. Completing this program will give the knowledge and skill I need to become an I.T professional. Instructors are very helpful. Staff is friendly. My experience in MATC IT Computer Support Specialist program is limited but good so far. I chose to pursue this degree because it lines up well with my current work experience and career goals. So far, I have been able to take all my classes online with no scheduled class times, so I can complete assignments at my own pace without interfering with my work schedule. For me, one of the best parts of retiring was finally getting to start attending classes with the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UWM, otherwise known to the members of our chapter as Osher. I have listed the Mission, Vision and Core Values for MATC below for everyone's review when considering the type of organization this is. I followed a link for registration (single class) and ended up at the online registration form. I completed the form and paid the $30 fee only to then realize that the registration was for an entire program, not an individual class. I called to ask for a refund of the fee (because it was made in error). I was told by Admissions over the phone that they would not refund the $30 fee AND THAT THIS TYPE OF ERROR HAPPENS ALL THE TIME AND THEY DON'T REFUND FEES PAID IN ERROR!!!! This must be the ethical part listed below in the core values. If this is happening all the time….do you think there might be a problem with your online registration instructions?! It certainly does not seem like MATC follows their own Mission, Vision or Values when dealing with the community. I haven’t even started a class yet but I can tell you that the financial aid team is quit rude and unhelpful. I turned in a application months ago and didn’t find out that my application wasn’t turned in because I needed to verify information until I called about the status of it a month later. It is now a week until class payment deadline and still nothing. I called and the lady was very snooty and said I’ll find out when they contact me and refused to give anymore insight. Wow. UPDATE: I was notified that I was de-registered from my classes because of no payment. Even though when I was previously on the phone with the financial aid office the lady assured me that I would not be dropped from my classes even though it would go past the payment deadline. So I had to re-register for classes(that were luckily not all filled yet), wait on the phone for 25 minutes and talk to another person in the office about my situation. It really just seems like this department takes peoples education as a joke or something. The fact that I’ve sat on the phone over five times now and received different information every time, obviously you guys need to come together and go over how to communicate with the students. Especially for first year students, I have no idea how financial aid works. I had the belief that it would have processed through way before the class payment deadline. At this point I have no idea what to do next and not one person at this school has given me guidance that’s not rushed over the phone.Faith Viel-Cail

I choose IT Support as a career because of my curiosity of technology, it’s something I always been interested in for a long period of time now. I discovered that an IT Support Specialist is needed now a days especially with numerous remote from home jobs and it’s constantly expanding. So technology became a way a life for continuous growth, devolvement and opportunities. I found out that MATC have a good IT program for students that can further your curiosity and experience in the field of technical growth. The program will help me become certificated in certain things related-to in the pursuit of attaining a degree. Certain things I like about the IT program is that you become very knowledgeable in Windows operating system and MacOS. MATC (West Allis) and (Oak Creek) campuses are both a good environment for studying and having hands on experiences.C- Power

I chose this degree, because I like the idea of being able to stay with technology as it grows. Seems that if you are not tech ready, you may not survive in the net generation to come. Kids use all type of technical devices, so I want to make sure I can keep up with them and the world. I selected the program because MATC provides an array of options and it is affordable. Credits are transferrable and saves a few dollars for the pocket. There are many surrounding business that hire students from MATC and are just as competitive as any other student and schools. I am taking an online course and the classes are offered throughout the day and not just a certain time of the day, going online provides flexibility for someone like myself who works and has a busy active family. If you are looking for a school that allows you to be study on your own time and continue your every day activities, MATC offers a great program and study options. I really like that the curriculum and professors take the time to teach students, even providing hands on you tube videos and videos. Every step is walked through and it is available to re-watch if we struggle.Chee Lee

Customer service in several departments needs to be improved! When trying to register for classes two separate times the computers did not work. Each time I was there (at least 3 separate occasions) each department didn’t know when the department next to them was open. “Oh, just walk over there and check.” How can they not know when the bookstore is open or the registrar or the other service areas? Also the bookstore has zero customer service. They will not help you find what you need for class unless you have a printout. Are they not on the same computer system? Why can’t they look up your schedule? Another thing is when registering for class in July you cannot get parking passes, ids, books, etc for the fall session because they don’t have them available! “Come back a week or two before classes start.” What? These are the people that are in charge of teaching others? By streamlining and organizing the MATC Mequon campus it would save tax payers money and future students time!!Jena Schneider

The reason that I chose MATC IT Computer Support, was to gain a better understanding of the IT world. What I like about information technology is that it is not stagnant. It is constantly evolving and getting better, faster and innovative. For me, this is more for personal growth than career motivated. However, you never know where something like this can lead you. I really enjoy the instructors and the way that the classes are taught. Being an online student, sometimes life can get in the way, but so far, the instructors have been very accommodating with any work or family challenges that occur. Needed my diploma evaluated and initially thought of using WES, but i had some questions and it was pretty hard to find how to contact customer service on their website. Thankfully, the universities i was applying for also accepted reports done by ECE and the experience i had with them was much more smooth and pleasant. The online chat with their customer service representative was comprehensive and i had answers to all my questions in no time. I only had to send my original transcripts as they could verify my diploma on a government website (might be different depending on a country). The report was ready in less than 4 days and i was super happy with it. They changed some subject’s names so it would sound more professional, which was a pleasant surprise for me. They offered me alternatives and insisted my college to enroll in an online program so that they could somehow find my documents. They were fast and very efficient. I would rate the facility a 5 if I didn't get attitude from the same girl in Student Express. She's a young beast that needs to take a customer service class. She just belittles you and talks down to you like you're an idiot and wasting her time. So when looking at the counter avoid going to the one to the far right. She's young, looks like black long hair, and doesn't know how to smile. I got her 2 days in a row. Today I apologized to the lady who actually got out of her chair and spent the time helping me and let her know my comments were not directed towards her. I was having problems viewing everything. I'm a visual person to. Good luck and wait for the next person available! I would stick with the blonde lady all the way to the left. She's always pleasant! I dreamed for years of being able to go to school, and now I am. I thought this was going to be the hardest thing I've ever done in my life. (Especially since I'm extremely technology challenged) but the people at gateway is not only made it easy for me to sign up and raise the funding, football also help me overcome my technical disadvantages I've learned more in 2 weeks about computers then I've learned in the last year. The student union has always been a special place filled with activity, information, electricity and fun. I'm writing this during covid-19 and the union has transformed into a community location for testing and vaccination. It is truly amazing how well set up it is. I'm really proud of the people who put this together. There is signage everywhere so it's impossible to get lost. The system is put together nearly flawlessly. It's fast and efficient but everyone putting their efforts into keeping us safe, all those amazing people working towards this effort are kind, thoughtful, and willing to answer your questions and make sure you're comfortable and safe. This is a truly amazing operation on all fronts and I congratulate the University, the AWESOME staff, and the innovators who were able to put this together for the good of our community, our state, and our country. I have a lot of Milwaukee Pride and love going to school in my home but I have had many problems with the Advising staff. My current Advisor in the Education Department is wonderful and extremely helpful but the Advisor I had prior to her was horrid. She knew nothing and every time I asked a question she would hand me literature to read myself. Zero help and ended up in the wrong major because of it. Otherwise the school is great and I really do enjoy it. I just run into staff that are bad at their jobs sometimes. My advise is just make sure your advisors know what they are talking about so you don’t waste time and money.Travis Sternhagen

I attended UWM for my Masters in Civil Engineering. I've only good things to say about the school. Wonderful professors. Quality of education at least in my department is good. I took one course from Geosciences department and Prof Timothy Grundl was my instructor. He is awesome! If some students felt, they did not get enough help financially from university, I can understand that as the school went through severe budget cut during 2016-18 period, when I went to school. I recommend any pregnant women , women with small infants to join this prenatal care program. They have many great opportunities for u to grow in your motherhood. They offer great classes as far as employment. You can get certified at low costs with just attending classes, sending over your resume, and meeting with who you are assigned with. They help you set goals and do everything they can to help you reach those goals, whether long or short term.They also give great advice and make u feel as if they are your home , not just a place you come to visit here & there. I love that they care for you as if they are your closest friend. They make you feel welcomed and appreciated at all times, no matter the situation you are in. I started for Employ Milwaukee as a CRN on July 6th 2020. It was a 6 month gig. When the 6 months was up, we got an email thanking us for the work, but that our 6 months was over. About a week later, we got another email stating that the program was extended, and that we were all going to get another 6 month CRN position at the same location, we were all so happy! Then about a week after that another email saying goodbye. When I called to find out what exactly was going on, I was told by the “director” Toni White, that the email was sent out to everyone and that in fact what it said, was NOT what it meant. She’s back stepping to save her own butt because her professionalism is sorely lacking, and when I told her that her email was deceiving, her comment was “well I used bullets”, huh? But only to find out you have to re-register yourself to get into the MATC program in Milwaukee. An only to findout you don't work no jobs until you complete the program. Great place for any counseling sessions or any physical therapy…the benedict center offers a variety of classes that stimulate your brain and educate you on many issues that our society is facing. The bendict center is a womans therapy group based only so no man are allowed as it will not be therapeutic to have memories or flashbacks arise while obtaining therapy. Excellent for homeless women whom work in the sex trade or human trafficking. They have a warming center Dec 1st thru Mar 1st. They have drop in center North & South location to help women with various resources such as food, clothing , housings, rehab, , mental health, sleeping room for rest, and harm reduction.
