A majority of the positive reviews on this site are biased and are from the staff. Please, heed the warnings that you see here. Some of these positive comments come as a result of the staff coercing someone to post a positive review. Please, do not believe the positive reviews – for the sake of your wallet and academic progress. Coming to this college was nothing but a huge waste of time and money. By far the worst college ON THE PLANET. Please, go anywhere else but here. A lot of the credits do not transfer, the staff is rude and doesn't care about you, and a professor at Sinclair told me that they consider these classes to be sub-standard. Don't waste your time or money. The only thing they care about is your money. I understand that you may want to attend a community college because it's cheaper, but do keep in mind that you only get what you pay for and at clark state that isn't much! Low tuition fees = low quality institution. The professors are not here because they want to ensure the success of their students. They're here to collect a paycheck and enhance the appearance of their resumes.John S

It is so incredibly difficult and annoying trying to contact ANYONE at Clark State. Trying to speak with anyone at all via phone during normal business hours during the day on a normal weekday is just a string of voicemail after voicemail and no one ever calls back. The only way to accomplish anything, even having a simple question answered, is to physically go to the school and deal with someone directly. And even then, probably 90% of the staff are not helpful and talk to you like you are incompetent. I am finally finishing up my 2 years at Clark State in order to get the classes that I need to transfer into a 4 year school. It has been a constant battle to get anything done at this school. The teaching staff HAS been very helpful, but the staff that work in the offices (testing center, records & registration, cashier's office) are so condescending it is unbelievable. After spending thousands of dollars every semester to attend classes here, you would think the staff would be just only SLIGHTLY more respectful.Alisha Scott

My daughter has been trying to reach out to Clark to attend this Fall and NOBODY has returned her messages or calls. So I decided to check into the ratings on this community college. After reading some of the reviews with low ratings I’m understanding why Clark will not return my daughters calls or messages. I’m willing to try one more time in the hopes of getting an explanation. However, if I cannot get a hold of anyone, then I will take it that this is my sign that Clark is obviously NOT the college for my daughter. I would rather look for another college for her to attend with a much better education. if Clark cannot get their stuff together to return messages and called to students that are wanting to attend a hen how can they have their stuff together to teach students. This college as a whole has been amazing. My instructors and the rest of the staff and faculty really care about your education. If I ever have any problems and I go to someone they either know the answer I am looking for or they will find someone who does. If I have any suggestions on how to make things better or easier for students they are always ready and willing to listen what I have to say and make improvements that will better students experiences. I wish I could further my education here farther than an associates degree because I have had such a great experience here. If you are on the fence, sign up! You won’t regret it.Danielle Lambrite

Amazing school. I graduated and walked already after my two years. Every teacher was supportive and there for me. You can just walk in to talk to an advisor (unless during semester start/end). Then it's by appointment. That is so much better than other schools. Osu only has very picky walk in times. MTC teachers put books in the library or I borrowed their copies so I spent nothing. They are friendly and the school is very pretty. Only a couple teachers were annoying, but every place has 1 or 2. I loved my time there.Molly m (YYH)

Do NOT go through this nursing program. Just take the few extra prerequisites that the other programs require and go somewhere else. This is the most unorganized program I've ever seen. They will reschedule clinicals and classes with absolutely no notice. They also give you lists of books to buy and change the required books the beginning of class. All they say when they mess up and change things around is "what do you want me to do, it's nursing school, you have to be flexible" it's nothing but frustration.Aletha Perry

Horrible school. I attended the school for about 2 years and have a better experience at the DMV. I was told in high school by a Cincinnati State that my credits would transfer from Cincinnati State to University of Cincinnati seamlessly – they did not. In fact when I went to UC, they stated they could accept me as a transfer student but none, zero, NADA – of my credits would transfer. I applied to Miami University (Ohio) and was able to have 3 classes transferred. Miami was also cheaper at the time than Cincinnati State. I had to start all over from scratch after 2 useless years at Cincinnati State. The staff at Cincinnati State, including the teachers, were low quality. Staff seemed to brush off any concerns you have. Asking for help? Only the minimum is provided to guide you in the direction you need. Teachers mostly seemed to be low quality and bottom of the barrel – I only had 2 teachers that were okay out of 2 years. A few teachers I was able to show issues with tests or exams – although they agreed that I was correct at the time, one refused to fix the exam grades for everyone because "That is what the test key answer is and she would have to go back and regrade all the tests"… Sorry? That is literately your job… The next teacher could not understand the wording of their own test question that they provided (online) and would not correct the answer for the students. I communicated this error via email and was pushed away. I pushed back stating the teacher was incorrect and provided the work as to why the answer was wrong, in a professional tone. The teacher responded unprofessionally by changing the color of the text in the email to red, downplaying my proof, not using punctuation, and using unprofessional language. I dropped the class as this is not a teacher in my eye; but someone who is there for a paycheck. Cincinnati State had a graduation rate of just over 12% when I attended. 12% of students graduate from this school…. For the 2019 year it is now 17.9%. The odds of you attending this school for 2-3 years and graduating are very low. You are better off attending a real college if you are serious about your future. The overall poor quality as well. I have never experienced so many arguments between teachers and students in a classroom before. After class is over, everyone leaves campus immediately unless they have another class within the next hour or so. The current ad campaign that is on TV does not portray the school correctly. The average age of students is middle age. There is very few labs due to limited budget. Little to no student engagement events. Printers were not free. Book store was a COMPLETE ripoff, some classes did not require the book due to costs. Teachers would not communicate to students about schedule changes in tests and exams effectively for online classes (I missed my final Physics exam due to this). Save 2 years of your life and go somewhere else. I am not the only one with a really bad experience. If you know someone that attended or attends Cincinnati State, talk to them. You will typically find they did not graduate or they think it is okay but plan to transfer to another school before they finish. My experience at Cincinnati State was something of a mixed bag. I had previously attended a 4-year university but was seeking a career change. Given the low cost of attendance that community colleges provide, I figured that Cincinnati State would be a great option. My first year of studies were great. I had some very kind professors who genuinely cared about the students and the material that they taught. Some faculty members could be a bit rude at times, but that is to be expected in higher education. After my first year, I truly felt like I was on the way to great success. My second year on the other hand turned out to be quite the opposite. During my first semester back from co-op, I received notification that I had been dropped from two classes without explanation. Upon reaching out to the registrar, I was told to contact my program chair/advisor. Upon reaching out to my advisor, I was not given any guidance. I felt like I was really left to my own devices to try to figure out how to schedule my classes. In addition, I found the teaching quality to be quite disappointing. In the one class that I was able to take that semester, my professor did not once hand out a syllabus or explain the grading rubric. I persistently asked him when grades would be given back, and he would give me a specific date. Only once did he ever give back grades on said date. The rest were given at the end of the semester, thus leaving all students in a state of anxiety over what our final grade would be. He stressed the importance of attendance and punctuality but was hardly ever on time for class. On some occasions, he even made me late to work because class would run over. For these reasons as well as the problems mentioned earlier about the administration, I decided not to return to Cincinnati State. In short, Cincinnati State is a good option for those seeking a low-cost education, and there are some great programs and professors here. However, the unorganized and highly bureaucratic administration combined with some exceptionally unprofessional professors keep the school from being as great as it could be. Please tread lightly if considering Cincinnati State now or in the future.Nick Workman

My review was removed probably by google because I mentioned that I don’t appreciate how their curriculum is trying to indoctrinate you. It’s other wise a good school. I got my degree in two years and had no problems. The instructors for my program were great. But it’s absurd in my opinion that a college feels the need to assert their opinions in to every core class. My English class was consistently wanting us to watch TED talks that talked about political standpoints. My sociology professor was the absolute worst. Even if you did an assignment and followed the rubric, but disagreed with her opinion, she would give you a lower score. Then try to justify it by using her own opinion as sources. She also said that anyone who believes in God is likely uneducated. Overall, my experience was good and I’m glad I got my degree here. But it’s just too liberal for my taste.Britt Jones

My son attended school here and it was a waste of time, experience and money. His teachers and principal does not communicate with the parents. They never gave us access to portal so we could know how he was doing. They claimed there was a incident but could not tell us what it was and suspended my spn for a week. Then told us they will not give him his credits earned and we neede to sign him back into his home school because they no longer wanted him at their shool. Now trying to charge me for tools he was not allowed to bring home because they cant find them. Dont send your child here.Denise Amick

Most of the teachers are rude and dont care about the attending student. All the staff thinks it's always the kids fault. I had an iep and was treated as if it was my fault for it. I would not reccomend this place unless if you're doing a creative program like photography or graphic design. If you're interested in Natural Resource Management especially with Mr Berringer, do NOT attend. He is extremely rude and doesnt help you to learn. I would give this school a 0 out of 5 if I could.Wildflower01

I hate this school. And my lab teacher. We receive too much homework and not enough time to do it. They don't respect us or our complaints. When I first came in October I was bullied and no one took care of it. They watched but never did anything. Mr. Sink is so rude too! He said talking to us is like talking to a wall. I love Columbus State and this is why: Before Columbus State: Growing up, I was never interested in the information taught in school, because I did not feel like it was applicable to the real world. After a year at a private college, I was originally apprehensive to restart college at any college. I was also scared of a community college. I grew up in Michigan, and I felt like our local community colleges had negative stigmas attached to them. Luckily, my older brother took me into the application office in Delaware, OH to take the entrance exam. I believe I tested out of an english and/or a math class. While at Columbus State: I would like to note that I always attended C-State as I held a part time job (10-20 hours a week). I originally attended an EMT-B class at Columbus State. The class was more challenging than I had anticipated and was pretty time consuming. I received a B in this course, but found employment immediately in the field and felt confident in my skills. A year later, I returned to C-State with the desires to go to nursing school. Thanks to ample meetings with advisors in Health and Human Services, I decided to take some prerequisite nursing classes as there was a waiting list to apply for their nursing program (while I worked part time as an EMT-B). During this year, I found more confidence in my work and studies, feelings of support and encouragement from staff, and rewards from hard work. I was also able to sign up easily for academic accommodations for the first time in my life! I loved my time at Columbus State within this year! I never thought I would love school or receive my first 4.0 GPA in the spring and summer semesters. For the first time, school finally felt fulfilling for me. After Attending Columbus State: I decided to leave C-State after a full academic year, and I pursued a BSN degree through another local school. I often look back at my time at C-State and regret that I did not take more classes here while saving a decent amount of money! I would suggest night classes if you are willing and able. I found that students were more likely to be hard working, more mature, disciplined, and also employed. I also found professors who taught night classes were often from OSU and more understanding. Generally my teachers were all very competent, funny, and held experience in the world. The only negative experience that I found was dealing with C-Stat's Police department staff and accessing their gym/locker room. Students must sign up manually for the gym locker rooms every semester at C-State's Police department and then wait for several days for your card to be accepted from security/police. This system seems dated and non-productive. I feel like this process should be easily automated. This issue led to a negative experience I had with a police officer that identified as Sergeant Diamond. I felt like this officer escalated my personal situation while being disrespectful and patronizing. Another time I was eating a meal in my car between classes when a police car pulled up to me and asked why I was parked between two spots in an empty parking lot and then asked me to pick a spot. I'm sure the police department deals with things they don't want to. I could have been lucky and experienced two poor attitudes on hard days, but I do not feel like the police department is fulfilling their mission that states they want to provide "exceptional customer service" for their students based on my only two experiences with them. I would take a look at how the police staff is trained at C-State.Connor Hill

I have enjoyed Columbus State and majority of the people I’ve met here while on track to my BA but this college needs some serious restructuring. The biggest thing I wish Cstate would look into is their faculty. When I go to ratemyprofessor.com and see many of them at a 1 to 2 star rating, that concerns me. I have personally had good and bad professors here and majority of the good ones were adjunct professors, the bad ended up being tenured faculty. I wish the college would look into the gripes students have and start to question whether or not they should be hiring adjunct professors to replace them. The only other major issue I’ve had is from advisors. The point of the advisor is to advise the student on their education path, but when I have a genuine question or concern, interrupting/having a snarky attitude doesn’t come off as professional to me. One last thing, please talk with the finance department about putting a budget together for another parking garage. I don’t go during peak hours anymore but when I did parking was atrocious. It will be 6 weeks this semester (Spring 2019) before CSCC releases financial aid refunds. I cannot believe they get away with this! OSU is 9 days after the start of the semester! Some people rely on these excess funds to survive another semester of school! This should be illegal and I’m pretty sure it is because according to federal financial aid funds are to be released up to a max of 14 days after the start of a semester! Insane to make people wait 6 weeks+ to receive their refund. Also, parking is obnoxious here any time of day. It also seems to me that each department does not have a good linear structure of teaching so each professor is just kind of doing their own thing whichever way they feel like doing it. Some classes are too long some are too short. It really feels like no one is in control here it’s just a free for all I guess. Employees are not friendly in any way shape or form. Honestly the only good thing about this school is how cheap it is. “You get what you pay for.” 🤷‍♂️614 Realness

Honestly, should have listened to everyone discrediting this school. Cheaper ain't better. This school has stressed me out and I've only been attending for one semester. They keep changing my aid amount, will not reimburse my refund and all together have made my college experience a nightmare in hell especially with me working full-time. It always something new going on with my financial information for the following semester and new requirements that were completed prior to me attending resurfacing. Who has the time to keep re-ensuring that they're getting the money they already previously accepted? It doesn't matter how early you send your FAFSA in, they will find a way to have it reprocessed so late that you won't recieve the amount you already accepted. Very poor experience, people don't care about the disabled students, they had charged me over $1k for not helping me get into my classes and they've abandoned me in 2010. One star for absolute failure. Edit: 9/14/2022 this so-called trio program from Owens community college isn't helpful not resourceful of how am I supposed to go to college, they sign me up late not knowing I'm missing out on my assignments and these advisors in the school are lazy and rude like they don't care for the disabled students such as myself. Attended Owens and completed an Associates degree in 2001. Returned to a local area 4 year college to complete a Bachelor of Science. Due to the high cost and mediocre experience. I chose to take as many transfer classes as possible at Owens. A full time semester was a fraction of a 4 year college semester. Pretty rigorous course material and most importantly, courses are well structured, you could actually work ahead following the syllabus. Students and staff are pleasant. Have my 4 year degree, and returning to Owens for certificate programs to fill in the gaps from said 4 year college curriculum.Brent A.

Education matters is great. They have very good teachers that make it easy to learn. They staff is very professional and will treat you with respect. You can talk to them about anything. They want to help, try to help in every way possible. The staff address you by name as you enter the facility, they help find in target a learning plan for your specific needs. Education matters is great!!, I decided it was time to earn my GED in early March of 2022, I came to education matters and the entire staff there was very caring and helpful, I passed science, language arts, and social studies by mid April and studied for a month or so for the math portion and passed it on June 7th, I highly suggest anyone who needs to get there GED to go to education matters! #1 Rule And BIGGEST mistake as a black person was going to a school where BLACKS ain't graduated in 3+ years from the rn bridge program. That right there was a major RED flag for me. Second they let this girl re- test but wouldn't let me in extenuating circumstances from me going to jail from my home over a seat belt violation and insurance hours before a test. Out of 30 extra credit points they gave every students on the tests I was only good for 4 smh but everyone got the questions wrong. I won't be coming back there I don't like that type of stuff they work with everybody else but won't work with me. They alter tests for certain people to pass. I need a more diverse and fair school to go to because That school ain't it it's fixed for certain people to pass and graduate. Black African Americans Please steer Clear Away from this school!!. I enrolled in the Adult Cosmetology two year program here and from the start my experience was mediocre. During my time there I had teachers come and go, I had 3 teachers through out the program. The first 'instructor' for the first year was more interested in being your friend then a teacher. Talked poorly about other students when they were not around and was more interested in getting her own hair colored the majority of the time instead of teaching. She favorited students and had a lack of caring. Our second instructor was there for a couple months and I had sadly learned more from her in those few months then I had with my first instructor. Our third instructor was the best by far, if only we had had her from the beginning. Now the school itself is shady. A few students and myself were prepared to graduate in July until the head of the Adult Education program came to us and said we had to be done with the program by June, 4 weeks prior. If we did not finish that was on us. I would not recommend this school to ANYONE. Find a better school that will provide you with the best education possible and is worth your money.Marissa Walczak

I was in the cosmetology program graduate in 2019 and I’ve been recommending Polaris to everyone! Best schooling I’ve ever done. my instructor ms.hasan was the best teacher I’ve ever had,she really cared about her students and making sure everyone got everything and made sure you brought the best out of you. She a very caring and loving person and I would not be the stylist/person I am if it wasn’t for her. Every program here is amazing and sets you up for success. Complete lack of communication with this school. No preparation emails regarding upcoming school year or events that are occurring. Nothing provided as to what our students need to be admitted to specific programs. As a result of a medical concern, my student struggled throughout the school year and significantly at the end. Absolutely no communication from the teachers or office staff. One teacher (now retired) told me "they should know what to do in the case of not attending class in person". Only one other teacher responded and was the only one with compassion. Once a diagnosis was provided, absolutely no aid was provided and my student was denied additional services or testing (for IEP). Even now my student failed 2 classes. I happen to keep up with their grades, but NO ONE from the school ever contacted me about these concerning behaviors nor advised us as to what our options were to make up these classes. I just graduated from Penta. I was in Business Office Tecnologies for 2 years. I was also in the Transition to work program for 1 year. Penta is a great school! Not only I made new friends, but I also learned everything I needed to know for life in general. The teachers truly care for their students and they want them to succeed. They also help you apply for colleges you want to go to and they support you. They even give you your passport when you graduate. I miss Penta so much and always will. It was my second home and my friends were like my family there. I will forever miss waking up early everyday to go to Penta! My daughter went to preschool here… Great program each preschooler was assigned a Student teacher and all was covered by a main teacher. They learn through play. Made home made ice cream… went on field trips made their very own pizza. Made snacks and cleaned up the mess. Too much to List. Honestly, I should've stayed at my home school. A lot of the faculty think they're high and mighty because they work in a technical school, nonetheless, they are no help when there are issues amidst. And some of the academic teachers pull rules out of nowhere that are no way in the handbook and they definitely pick and choose students. Want to come here? This is a great school in my opinion, I take automotive technology and it's a great course. I've learned a lot in the classroom that now helps me at my work in a dealership as a lube tech. Yes there are losers there but I keep under the radar and only go there to learn, not start drama or get involved with all of it.Nathan Vlogs

The technology program is why I went there and the teacher Mr. Pasie knows his stuff for the electronical computer technology class. He can be funny at times to keep your attention and liven up the atmosphere. The college classes you go there for are the real deal college level and I got certifications. You can get internships if available. The core classes are where a star was reduced (mostly for math calc 2). A lot easier then Granville's and Granville brings good work ethic. Quick note, the English was good both college and regular, chemistry was good, history had a good teacher. First algerbra 2 was a lot of algerbra 1 and always use of calculators. I got stuff done before classes ended, everything and maybe day after. The problem is some students from less fortunate schools don't put an effort and can turn things in later etc. The math class pre calc with subs was a joke(more on that later). I scored 80 percent knowledge on history pre test (highest). English class was good. Good teachers but during pre calc for my last year a teacher that was old and apparently sick got subs who did not know how to teach math. It wasn't till later we got some that did. Overall college classes great and there are good core classes but Granville would probably be more vigourous in a good way comparison.Nick Maag

Terrible staff. Not everyone, but more than normal. I was made to feel singled out all the time, and no I wasn’t “the bad kid” because everyone else in my class was also confused as to why this was happening. I had all a’s and b’s, maybe a c or two, but somehow my instructor and the higher ups felt the need to pick me apart all the time. Not to mention the program that I spent all that money on? I never even got my certification! The school police officer also once threatened to send me to “juvey” because I wasn’t in class one day- I was crying in the bathroom because I had an abscessed tooth which soon after required intense surgery. And yes, I told him why I was in the bathroom. He sent a plethora of female staff to come inside and yell at me instead of trying to help me in any way. And my mom was already on the way to pick me up! I went to the bathroom because the office person thought I was exaggerating and therefore wouldn’t let me sit in the office for 15 minutes. The school is the perfect example of great taste horrible execution. Lab teachers are great, general ed teachers are a mixed bag, and the school administration is the closest thing to rolling a flaming tire down a hill into a gasoline soaked orphanage you can have, without getting a felony charge. I'm happy with my education from lab, and from 1/4th of the general ed teachers, but the rest of the time there is pure trash. I got a life threatening illness, and had to put off going to the doctor to not miss school, and to boot, they doxx you as a graduation present.Jediotty

Great education facility, and great adult ed program. Hugely improved from what it was ten years ago when I went for welding. David Guinn, the adult ed department head, is a man who really cares about the school and the students. If you sign up for the advanced manufacturing technology adult ed course, you will get a lot of great hands on experience, as well as a complete knowledge base. A piece of advice about the advanced manufacturing technology instructors: let Steve Abner do most of the teaching you receive, he is simply better at teaching. The other instructor, who co-teaches the course alongside him, Jeff, has his moments where he can really shine, but don't let him push you around and mess with you too much. My experience with Jeff has been mostly him telling stories about all the places he has traveled to and worked at, and telling me to "figure it out" and not actually helping or explaining things, or teaching, whenever I asked him for help or to explain something, and micromanages you. You might as well be learning without an instructor if Jeff is involved, because you are not being taught, anyway. Don't let him push you around, and turn to Steve for help and instruction.Kaenyn

Great school with great programs. I have been attending the career center for over a year now in the Electromechanical PLC course and this school has helped me learn a vast amount and it has helped me attain a job as a maintenance technician and Dave Guinn the head of advanced manufacturing helped me write a decent resume and cover letter to get the job I attained, he also has helped me find multiple temp agencies and multiple job openings, this school has helped me gain the experience I needed to start my career and is a great school to attend with many great programs.Richard Fell

For someone working and attending Adult Education classes, I have had a great experience of getting to work at my pace. There is always something to learn and another skill to work on. I can easily say that going to Butler Tech for my Junior and Senior year of High School was one of the best decisions I have ever made! I chose to study in the Information Technology program, and I walked out with so much more information and knowledge than I would have thought. My instructors, Mr. Newman and Mr. Chambers, were very uplifting, and always encouraged me to be the best I could possibly be. I cannot thank them enough for their motivation and encouragement during the two years I attended. Not only were my instructors awesome to be around, but my classmates were awesome as well. Every single one of my classmates in my Information Technology program shared the same interests as me, and it helped us to grow closer to each other like family. We always helped out one another, we always encouraged one another, and we always stuck together. In terms of the curriculum, speaking for the Information Technology program itself, it will be difficult at times. Mr. Newman, as well as Mr. Chambers, will treat you like you would be treated in the work force. I personally loved and admired this about them. The reality is, in the workforce, your managers wont be able to hold your hand 24/7. I loved the idea of being prepared early on to work my very hardest. This is just one of many things I have to thank Butler Tech for. Overall, I cannot recommend this school enough. My daughter decided that she wanted to attend the Culinary Arts program for her Junior and Senior year of high school and she absolutely enjoys it! Chef Tyler Simpson is amazing and inspiring! My daughter looks forward to going to school every day unlike when she went to the Fairfield City Schools which is our home school. She takes part in all of the events she can no matter the day or time. Some of the staff lack personality and many of them tend to be the office and administrative staff. The campus is nice with a big parking lot and the facility is clean and well maintained! One issue that I found here is the fact there isn’t enforcement in the parking lot for the students! We PAY for a particular parking place as do many other students but the school doesn’t enforce this! This year is the worst yet. Various students have complained when the get to school only to find a car in their spot and when they go in and say something to the office staff they are told they will deal with it later..park somewhere else! REALLY? Another parking lot issues is there is no order when the school day is over. Non bus riding students can’t leave the parking lot until the buses do so that implies they are trapped in the lot until 2:25 pm or later. So if you don’t mind sometimes rude administrators and no parking lot enforcement you will love it!R Retherford

Attending Butler Techs Computer and Network Technolgy class today called Information Technology was the best choice I made when I was in High School. I am sure that my career path would not have been, as it is today without BT. The engagement and dedication my teachers had, in terms of teaching a child how the real world functions, is and was outstanding. I visit the campus and classes I took back in that time, every time when I get the chance. Also I talk to studens and new teachers while I am there. And every time, I am surprised and amazed again, that a teacher can bring up so much commitment for teaching children. And showing them how it is, to work in fields that are so competitive and diverse. It was an honor to be able to attend the DRL campus. And I am very proud to still serve my teachers I had by giving information and input out of the industry to keep the classes as close as possible to the real world experience. OBC is a wonderful college. The staff is wonderful and awesome to work with. They help you get through just about everything when something doesn't seem right. Terrible experience I originally was taking billing and coding online which I have done online classes before but this was absolutely terrible experience information for assignments is all over the place so getting assignments complete in a timely fashion well good luck so I had opted to do a in person program and that was even worse I was better off just staying online so I could work the instructors for both programs were useless all of the in person class was basically self taught so what was the point I ended up dropping this school and going somewhere else best decision I made in my college career thus far.Ashley Blaum

The staff are wonderful and helpful, but during most of my time here, there have been a few people leave. This caused some confusion and chaos for us as students because these positions were not filled until recently, but brought people from other campuses to help us out, but them being unfamiliar with the students made certain processes take much longer than they have in the past. This place is a joke, and the only reason you're seeing all the 5 star reviews is because they sit you in an office 1 on 1 and tell you to write a good review. Its 16,000 you have to pay out of pocket for a job you'll never make over $11-12. Wendy is one of the teachers and she is a disgrace and chooses favorites and makes life hell for the rest. They seem so nice when you walk in to lure you in, but it's all a scam. Just walk away… Go to a real college, get a real degree.Kendyl Adams

You ever seen that show called "Bar Rescue" where this team of guys goes around to privately owned bars and teaches them how to run their business the right way? Well if there were a "School Rescue", Vantage could sure use the help. Because last I checked, Vantage was NOT a military school. First off is the head supervisor, the man who held back the majority of the senior and junior auto body class from participating in the most recent field trip to the Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg Museum. (The senior class's FINAL field trip, I might add) For having any grades at a D or lower, as well as making both my years at Vantage a living hell by scrutinizing and essentially breathing down my neck every move I, and certain other students that he deemed "troublemakers" make. Have a heart, for God's sake. Second is the discipline coordinator, whom has no sense of individuality when it comes to appropriately disciplining the students. Granted I've had some run-ins with him and my disciplinary assignments have been reasonable in those cases, but there have been many times where my meetings with him were based upon nothing more than a misunderstanding or an accident, and RARELY, if ever, am I allowed to give my side of the story and speak with the teacher/instructor involved in the situation to clear things up. It is not fair to the students as we are ALL humans and we all mess up, and there are many ways to resolve an issue besides sticking students in a confined room assigned to a cubicle and calling them a "hacker" for downloading a VPN (which I may also add, a VPN is used for protecting privacy and it's purpose is to protect AGAINST hackers). It's downright unprofessional, and really, how can you demand respect from your students when you give none in return? Third and final, there are a few teachers on the staff who are downright RUDE and disrespectful to their students. As for most, if not all Vantage staff, if you disagree with any part of what they tell you, you are wrong/unruly/disrespectful or any combination of the three. I've heard of one certain algebra teacher call their students dumbasses, retards and as the other review listed here will say, one was told that maybe they should eat a bullet. Now ask yourself, is that OKAY by any standard to essentially tell one of your students that maybe they should kill themselves? I will give the school credit for their labs and academic systems, it IS a good place to learn and I picked up quite a few useful skills in my time there. But something NEEDS to be done about the staff. I'd like to extend my thanks to the person who wrote the previous review similar to this one, for inspiring me to write this and I encourage all others to come forward with any constructive criticism they may have so that SOMETHING can be done about this. The reason I give this school two stars is because I think the labs are great, but the academics are trash. If you don't agree with something then you're out of luck. No matter how much you try and push that you are right they will shut you down. They do things how they want and don't care how you feel. They use favoritism (I've even heard a teacher yelling at a student because he brought it up and she says that they use it because they have the authority to) and then wonder why some kids act out, hate their class, and hate school in general. There is no freedom at all in this place. I'm a good kid that at least try's to get good grades but I've seen and heard kids get in trouble for some of the stupidest things I've ever heard of. Some kid got his hat taken away because he walked into the building with it on and then took it off. So he was punished for taking his hat off and they kept his hat for a whole week. Pointless, right? Some kid told a teacher that she makes him want to eat a bullet and she straight up told him "Maybe you should." Just think about that. Even if the kid is a trouble maker you shouldn't say that to anyone. Not only that but a lot of the kids that go here already don't like it. If I could already I would have transferred back to my home school but it's too late now. They'd probably try and make me take this post down saying that I'm bashing the school when I'm only giving my honest opinion. Too bad they won't know who this is. There are so many holes in this school that it looks like Swiss cheese, so if you plan on going here make sure you have a 4.0 GPA to get away with anything or you really, I mean really, like the field you're going for.Anonymous Review

The majority of the staff here is very unprofessional. As far as having your child's future there best interest is bogus to say the least. Since when does a student that has surgery (excused absence) receive 0s for those days. When I question the teacher about her grading procedures she quit responding to my emails. So I politely left a message with coordinator Verhoff who has also chose to ignore my messages. Any questions about my child's education should never go unanswered and most certainly shouldn't be ignored.Dana Treesh

While Graduating from here looks good on a piece of paper its an awful place to go to school. The counselors don't care about you or your experience the lab instructors are bullies and if you try to leave theyll belittle you for it the school does not care about their students and only cares about the money they get for the attendance I would NOT recommend this school to ANYONE at all I wish i could go back and not attend here As far as the content the teachers actually present goes outside of the labs its recycled garbage that i can 100% guarantee students have had before unless its the college credit courses you will be bored to death Most teachers give out notebooks as a grade to hold your assignments that have been done in the past and hold notes and that wouldnt be bad if it werent for the fact that theyre 'guided' notes if youre unfamiliar with this concept its when a teacher gives you a sheet of notes already done and breaks out different sections of it for you to reinput into the notes so youre only writing maybe one or two words to fill up each section and you have no reason to ever look at them again defeating the entire purpose of notes I cant count the times that teachers instead of presenting the content have relied on videos on the internet to progress the lessons at hand and in some cases have flaunted their degree im sorry but it doesnt take a masters degree to find stuff on the internet All in all Great Oaks cares about the money they get from getting students here and nothing moreFalse Endings

Literally a life saver school, got me away from my homeschool and the bad experiences that it held. I enrolled in Digital Arts and Design, and I'm almost done with my 1st year, and it's been absolutely amazing. The teachers are eager to help and understand you with anything, the food is great, and my lab teacher is always down to make school even better of an experience by blasting music in the cafeteria during the holidays. The counselors are very nice and they always make sure to get to you and help, surprisingly quickly as well. Definitely the best choice I've madeCocoDuh Koala

They told my daughter she wasn't even a student there after she attended for a couple months of the school year, tried to force us to enroll with an affiliated school, and still tried to charge us with truancy DESPITE the fact that my child wasn't technically a student. The fact that none of this was communicated until it was too late to even enroll with the affiliated school so she could still attend proves that this school is incapable of the professional communication it claims to be teaching its students.Joh But

We have only been going to Sylvan of Vandalia for around a month, maybe a little longer and have seen a tremendous boost in our son’s confidence, phonics skills, and fluency in reading. He is a second grader and has struggled with reading, he was in a reading program at his school last year. The difference our family has seen in him, in just a month has us jumping for joy. The staff is friendly and amazing to work with. Our son has made preferences to who he enjoys working with the most and also had verbalized troubles with being able to concentrate by other students that have to read out loud, with my WEEKLY check up calls (they always call me weekly just to see how Our son is feeling about everything and if there are any concerns) I have verbalized the things he says and they have done a wonderful job customizing his seating arrangement and instructors to allow for a better learning experience for him. We have been more than pleased with our experience with them. It is well worth the money to invest in our child’s future!Joe and Heather Bittorf

I've brought my youngest son here for help with his reading and math. After only a month we noticed a major difference in his grades. The atmosphere is fun and inviting and it was a place that actually made him excited to learn. The staff is friendly and the directors are always there to help. We enrolled him into their "Math Edge" program I'll admit it was a little pricey but it was well worth the money. We enrolled him in the fall of 2014 and in less than 6 months he made a major transformation. He's comprehending things he had no clue about before, and I as a parent am amazed by these people and their dedication to better our children's education.John Finch

The staff at Sylan Learning of Vandalia is AWESOME!! They were extremely helpful in getting all the national exams that I needed to take to get my Spanish endorsement added to my Ohio teaching license. I am a military spouse and every state we move to has different hoops to jump through to get my teaching license recognized. Ohio is one of the toughest experiences I've had in the almost 16 years of moving. The allow bullying and exclusion. Not just from students but from teachers as well. even after reporting it, was told nothing could be done. so apparently intimidation is okay here. don’t go here update: they lie. I was suppose to get a refund on the 15th of June and they never processed it. Then financial aid told them that they never told me that and that nobody's got processed which is not true. not only is it all over my paperwork but I know for a fact that they did process my classmates. Now I am in the negative considering I am here full time m-f 8am-3:30 I have not been able to get a job around my schedule so I was depending on that refund.
