20 Best G.E.D Programs In Concord, CA (2022 Updated)

Laney college culinary program is wonderful, while back, I was looking for a culinary schools around and close by city of Oakland, I found, San Francisco cooking school, CIA and Laney College. CIA’s Tuition on full time basis was about $47,000 for all students, San Francisco cooking school tuition is about $25,000, , then, Laney’s tuition: $46.00 per semester unit…next, I started comparing each school’s culinary programs, they all were very similar with a very little insignificant differences. I visited each school as well, honestly, CIA school, has a much fancier buildings but, not for $47,000 tuition, same as San Francisco cooking school, therefore, for my budget and goal, Laney College was evidently and unmistakably was my first and only choice. I signed up in their Culinary baking program, instructors are fantastic, school’s facilities are moderate, reasonable and very much adequate for this program, equipment are the same as other mentioned schools that I visited, and much better than “acceptable” that I thought it would be, most importantly, instructors are one better than the others, not to mention, I finished the baking program while back, now, I am just finishing up 3rd semester of their cooking program. I've been doing the baking and pastry program for three semesters now and it has exceeded my expectations. First of all, the core classes are 90% hands-on work. The other 10% are mainly lectures about the history of the product you are about to recreate. The chef instructors are extremely knowledgeable in the industry and will help you guide your way into a successful career. Many people coming into the program are trying to get their foot in because they don't have any experience. My first semester I was able to get a job in catering with help from my instructors. Even if you're not looking for a career, this program can help improve your skills in the kitchen. However, they will still prepare you as if you are going to work at a kitchen. They also offer a course in the savory side if baking and pastries isn't what you're looking for.Nathan Ung

I have just completed the baking curriculum of the Laney College Culinary Arts program. It was one of the most enjoyable and rewarding educational experience I have ever had. The program will prepare you for a successful career in the baking and services industry. The program is tailored to train anyone with absolutely no experience to become a professional baker. The classes provide real world hands-on experience in the preparation of baked goods. The instructors are professionals with many years of experience in the industry. They will make every effort to make your experience enjoyable and rewarding. Lastly you cannot beat the cost of the program. Why pay anywhere from $65,000 to $100,00 to attend a private profession culinary program when you can go to Laney and learn the same stuff for a fraction of the cost?tony lim

I don't know about the teachers but the staff is extremely rude(especially the two ladies at the main office). I went there to take the ESL placement test. I think we can all agree that people who are taking the test are there because they know little to no English, but they treated us as if we were stupid! Instead of using different, simpler words for those who didn't understand, they were raising their voices and almost shouting at them. I even saw one them (a male worker who also speaks Spanish) snapping his fingers to one of the employees, telling him he needed to work faster.. I'm not even kidding. After finishing with the test, this same man gave me my orientation date and hour. I told him I had class at that hour and he told me "that's it, I already gave it to you, there's no more negotiation". (?????!!!) He didn't asked me beforehand if those hours were ok with me (It's not the same hours I would be taking the ESL class) and I'm sure there could be another time I could go.. There's just no interest from them for people to learn. And, by the way, the process of taking the placement test takes more than two hours and with this arrogant staff it feels even longer.. Our son just celebrated his 8th grade graduation from Noble Learning Academy (NLA). We all couldn't be prouder of him being part of the inaugural class. NLA did an amazing job engaging and teaching all their students during what was certainly an unusual and tough year. This school has made such a tremendous positive impact in my daughter's life. My daughter had suffered from debilitating anxiety/depression since the start of the pandemic, exacerbated by the school closures, the subsequent disjointed virtual/zoom learning, social isolation, school phobia, etc. I started searching for private schools that specialize in social emotional learning and the whole child and came upon Noble Learning Academy. When I first met with Miss Cassie, I just got this good, warm vibe. I felt like she completely understood what my daughter was going through. After my daughter's first day there, she came running out, beaming, smiling, telling me about her day and the kids that she met. To hear your child say that they like school, that they look forward to going every day, having previously had a severe school phobia, is amazing. My daughter is happier now in general. Miss Cassie and the teachers are extremely caring and take the time to address each child's specific needs. I am so impressed with the level of attention that has been given to my child, and their help in addressing certain gaps in her learning. Middle school is hard academically and socially. Add a pandemic for the 2020/2021 school year and it was a perfect storm. Our 7th grade student needed something different. What we found at Noble Learning Academy was small class sizes, engaged teachers and support. Miss Cassie, a teacher herself with 30+ years experience and the founder of NLA, started this middle school during the pandemic as the answer to many students needs. She recruited terrific teachers who have decades of experience and are dedicated educators. They have created an extremely supportive learning environment. The teachers know each students strengths and weaknesses due to the small class sizes. The classes are collaborative and the students are taught to use an array of technology. They are preparing these students for High School with the academics they are teaching. Even with continued at-home zoom learning, this school has given our student back the joy of learning and rebuilding her confidence!! This school community is supportive and the students are welcoming. This is a great middle school I can’t recommend this school enough!! This school only cares about the money you pay them. I remember the director contacting me so many times in a week to pay my past due. I was still waiting for my VA benefits to kick in. Then I was told if I don’t pay by this date, I will be removed from the program. So I applied for a loan to pay off my past due. After that I was never harassed again. I expected a lot from this school. From great didactic instructors to clinical instructors. But that did not happened. I only had one good didactic instructor. My clinical instructor was lazy and always complaining. The leadership did not care about you. Just their well being as a school. Your grades don’t matter. Also they did not care if you are a military veteran. There were times that I had to clock in using my phone which is not allowed, but my clinical instructor was always late so I couldn’t clock in using a computer. I was removed from the MRI program because I was DISHONEST. Instead of helping you to improve, they just remove you from the program because they got what they needed from you. MONEY! No kind of remediation whatsoever. Just after your MONEY. You’re better off with Unitek where they care about their students emotionally, spiritually, and personally. Being a nurse is way better than being an MRI tech.👎Ervan Valdez

I applied to the Gurnick Academy ultrasound technology program ( San Mateo campus ), At first I was getting constant email reminders to complete documents before the deadline date . After I completed everything I had an panel interview set up , the interview went well overall but I was asked a certain question that I didn’t completely understand and when I hesitated ( and felt nervous ) the interviewer rudely responded with frustration at my delayed response . At the end of the interview they informed me that I would receive a response within 3 weeks. Within a few days I received an email demanding that I complete a financial aid form within that day “ just in case” I get into the program even though I hadn’t received an acceptance letter. Well.. 3 weeks passed and I sent a follow up email kindly thanking everyone that attended the interview for there time and consideration . I didn’t get a single reply back from that email , a month after the interview day they emailed me informing that I didn’t get in and should try applying next year . The negative reviews I read after the fact are correct , it seemed like they were only after money .Amani Abdaw

I want to take the time to recognize the outstanding staff here at this school. I appreciate how welcome I always feel and every one here is very helpful I especially want to give credit to Mr. Espinosa my high diploma English teacher who is very helpful towards me and the other students. He is very caring and I know how much the other students at this school appreciate what a great teacher he is and how respectful he is to all the students. Another teacher I appreciate is Mrs. Long because she taught me how to use Microsoft Word and taught me how to use the A+ program which has made my life easier. She is very nice and caring too. I was most pleasantly surprised – not QUITE the worst location I've been in, but close. As noted, parking is in short supply, and don't leave valuables in your car. That said, I was very impressed with the quality of the education provided (took Medical Math and Medical Terminology) and have no problem recommending this school. Sadly, due to scheduling issues I opted to take my VN training at a local community college, but I would have had no problem with doing so here. I went through the CNA program here and I was so surprised by how great the students and teachers were. The students in my class were all really ambitious and there to learn. The teacher focused on how students learn in different ways and she always went out of her way to teach in a way that you could get it. As a working adult, coming back to adult school was my choice. I wanted to finish my schooling and I encouraged my little cousin to come back and finish herself. We walk in and get set up with our contract after its all explain, this teacher tell me that she doesnt want me and my cousin to be disrespectful or disturb the class or shell have to kick us out of class. I was a little confused on why she said that as my little cousin and I didn't say a word when we walked in. On one occasion I left my wallet at home by accident. I asked if I could leave my car keys and check out the book. They say nope it has to be your cell phone. I explain that I cant leave my phone as I'm on call for work and if an emg happens I need to available. She said Nope it has to be a phone. So I had to leave. The next incident was when I ask for the test since I had finished my work and pretest. Surprise, none of my work was in my folder. Teacher said I can't give you the test if the other stuff hasn't been done. I said all my work should be there. You dont allow us to take our done work home so guys you lost it here, besides in order for me to do the pretest i would had finished my work. She kept telling me I need to do the work again. I said NO you lost my paperwork. After she realized I was right and that they misplaced my paperwork she pulls out a box of full of work that was complete. Guess , what my work was in there graded and all. After that I was done with this school. They treat you like you are a child. Teachers have this attitude like they are forced to be there. Any time you ask questions they seem bothered. It wasn't a good experience for me as a adult, however it did not discourage me on continuing my education. This rating is for the communication between instructors/staff & prospective students. I was really interested in their CNA program and contacted the school, instructor, & the administrator on special assignment for 4 days straight with unsuccessful replies back. I got the usual "we'll email & call you with the details of the program" & never received anything for 4 days straight. What a shame, I was really excited to sign up for their CNA program. I understand that they're busy & that's why I only contacted them once a day but come on for 4 days straight?!?! Ya'll can do better!!Mari Jimenez

I have taken several training coarse's from TecHelp. including update training for smog and the A6/A8/L1 training and a lab scope class. Doug and John do an excellent job in teaching anything from basic to very advanced information. They are brilliant instructors and provide a productive entertaining learning environment that is second to none. They provide hands on scope training that is very impressive and unique in that you the student are actually hooked up the car using your own Scope live. This is the best way to learn just what your snap-on, pico ats or other tool can do. I have gotten very high ase test scores after taking their training coarses. 5 I want to start with Thank You to Jon and Sonia what great people they are. I took Level 1 and level 2 smog classes to become smog check inspector. As i never ever been work on any car and i did not even know whats under the hood of any car. I been working at gas station for my life. But since i did level 1 and level 2 with Jon and Sonia as they are the greatest teachers ever i had i was able to learned a lot more than i expected for myself. I took this class in February and March of 2020 after hearing from several students about the quality of the training. I own my own smogshop and I have to say that I cannot say how amazing Jon, Sonya and their team are. You get a topnotch, hands-on, fully intensive training about not only Smogs and the Automotive Industry, but you get to interact and mingle with other like minded individuals. I passed my Smog Tech Inspector Exam on my first try. You have to do yourself a favor and enroll. You wont get a better education anywhere else!Luis E. Velez Jr.

I’m a graduating student of LVN, i highly recommend Gurnick academy, i had the best experience in didactic classes and clinical with Sir Norman, he, I must say is the best clinical instructor. He provided us a high quality education, He showed us professionalism, his strong work of ethics inspires me to be like him in the future, he doesn't tolerate negative attitude, but he is very considerate to students. You can see the passion and he really wants his students to learn and develop for the better. He pushed beyond what we think is our limits, he developed our critical thinking, he taught us to think outside the box and at the same time encouraged us, he is very knowledgeable, you can ask him any question about any disease process, pharmacology, psych, skills etc. and he can answer all of it and able to explain in a cellular level. It is a great school to learn! They will not let you down and will help you if you are having a hard time in certain class. I had maximize my clinical time because of Mr. Norman Elizaga, he is very professional and knowledgeable, he taught us a lot of things in nursing that i did not experience with any other instructor. He will challenge you until you become a competitive student. At first i was having a hard time with some of my classes until i was put in his clinical group and got my mind set up in concept mapping, that way my classes went easier and became understandable. I then started getting As in my didactics. He changed how my thinking process works as well as my critical thinking in nursing. He is very professional dealing with students. I attend Concord campus and they have decided, at the end of our program, to change to graduation we are having. The previous classes have had a graduation with the program they are a part of. We have been told they are going to make us wait for months and graduate with the entire college. We worked hard to become nurses and to have to sacrifice all we have worked for to have a mediocre impersonal graduation that we are paying for as part of our tuition is unethical. We have sent numerous e-mails in the past 3 weeks (6/21/22) to Jason Frank and Joe K. with no response. They will not acknowledge us, not even in the hallways. We are done in 3 months. To not know what is going on with a celebration we worked so hard to achieve is very unsettling and I do not feel valued as a student here. My son left his amazing conventional private school and moved here in October. He has always excelled academically but I was concerned about his emotional health (a combination of Covid restrictions and social anxiety). Where can he go where he can experience micro-failures and practice public speaking in a safe environment? Acton, of course! He is learning to advocate for himself, recognize positive AND negative real world traits in people, identify his personal feelings and express them, and rely on anyone other than an authorative adult figure for answers to questions he may have (learning to be). Best choice I could have made for my boys! I am a teacher and it was hard to pull them from the school I teach at, but now I see the benefits! They are not only learning the core subjects (math, science, reading, etc) but they are learning important life skills that I WISH public school could teach! With smaller class sizes and a learner-led approach, my kids can go at their own learning pace and actually LEARN before needing to move on with the class! They are learning that there are consequences for their actions, both good and bad. The confidence level in academics and their work ethic have grown so much! The experience of getting an "Education" at this institution leaves much to be desired. I have gotten my education and quite a bit of experience from this place and in my time I have seen: -Lazy professors -Unethical Administrators -Dean of Equity complaining about how her office isn't big enough -Terrible education (When a professor makes you watch a 30 year old documentary and calls that an adequate representation of modern happenings, professors simply telling you to use Quizlet, Professors telling you that you are poor now and will always be poor, professors telling the students that she believes they are selfish animals, Professors brining their personal lives into class, Professors being petty, ETC ETC) -.Abrogating their motto "We Care About Your Success!" They serve themselves only and work to perpetuate their administration. We are merely statistics for them to use to accomplish their selfish goals. -People in Student Government having sex in the "Honor Center" -Students moral being low -People in Student Government who steal from the school each other among other illicit activities… -The School funding silly building projects rather than doing things to materially better the lives of the students. -Having workers laugh about how they poorly put together gym equipment that costs well over 10 grand -hearing Professors say they are overwhelmed and can't help you -Having the Administration Straight up LIE and then Obfuscate any responsibility. -Student News Paper: When I dealt with them they proved to be self-serving hypocrites. -The campus police turn a blind eye to the vagrants who pollute the area with their filth and drug paraphernalia: They even burnt down a section of the Lake a while back, because they where living in Marshes. They have since relocated to the bushes on the border of LMC and the Trails -Trails just outside of the school are an easy route for drugs, crime, and opportunists. I am glad to be done with this part of my life, I luckily have taken other college classes in other Universities; thus, I was well suited for the free for all LMC offers its students. With that said i have seen many Good people come into LMC and walk out with nothing to show not because of some fault of theirs but because of the wretched environment and culture perpetuated at LMC by the ADMINISTRATION and its ILK!mansa shaka

Overall this community college is excellent. Most of the teachers are willing to spend time helping you if you need it, the campus is very clean and offers a lot of different jobs for students, and there are quite a few learning communities for a rather small campus. The Brentwood Math Lab is better than the Pittsburg Math Lab though, in my opinion. The cafeteria isn't all that great, but if you have a car there are tons of other food options on Century Boulevard just down the street. Many people don't know that there is even a Nature Preserve in LMC with a lot of California native plants, and it is located between parking lots B and C in the back or Southern part of campus.Mary Abusafieh

Greatful to this school. Through here I was able to go an get my RN. Many good teachers over the years, some have already moved on, but good place to go. My only complaint is their points system for the nursing program. Preference is given to those that have a bachelor's degree or higher. I agree with higher grades and licenses i. The medical field getting preference, but giving preference to someone seeking a career changes over someone that has yet to start a career seems unfair. Best JC in the entire Bay Area. The courses that are offered span over many subjects. The programs and available support for students is top notch. Gorgeous campus. Seriously breathtaking and well taken care of. Student housing will be on site as of next year for the students and the housing office just opened up to start accepting applications. Their transfer program is awesome for students to take part in enabling students toward a bachelor's degree entering UC/CSU as a Junior and completing within 2 years. Highschool dual enrollment is accepted and is an awesome way to start the journey early toward higher education. Going back to school saved my life and I am forever grateful to all the wonders that Santa Rosa Junior College can give, and help one to grow themselves in whatever direction ones journey entails, whether young or old, new or returning.Robyn Landrum

If you want to get a higher education at a better price there's nowhere else you want to go then Santa Rosa Junior college. They have the best staff of any junior college I have ever gone to and rivals any college around the area in my opinion. First time at this college and I have dropped the only class I was taking. I feel very disappointed about CIS teacher. I tried to find help with a counselor but he put a lot of excuses since I am Spanish speaker. I felt descriminated by teacher and staff support. Also, the Admission and record staff were so impolite. I am a Napa Valley student but they didn’t have introduction to computer classes on fall semester, so I went to Solano college to get some advantage in my study planning. I waste my time and my money and for sure I won’t return to this college and I don’t recommend this college. No one can refuse to help an student because he or she can’t speak English as they speak. The teachers are great and they also offer a early learning development for children. My child is attending it and I can't be more happy with her teachers and the amazing learning skills she has developed since she started. I highly recommend this college to anyone at any age. You will want to continue to learn here and you will find who you are meant to be. I have found a better me here and with the help of my teachers I am growing in so many ways. I hope my daughter's will attend College here and do what they love. I am currently a new student-athlete at Solano Community College and so far everything seems very promising. The Females Basketball coach has ensured me a great learning experience. Along with that a team mate has already helped me out and got me started with my online classes, so for me, my experience so far has been very inviting. My schedule is well organized, my classes seem like they should be interesting, and I am on my way to success due to this school and myself of course. Now speaking about the canvas tutorials. they are very information however a little boring at times and more so a tutorial for the teachers I'm assuming, none the less very informational.Chaneli Johnson

My experience here at DVC has been pretty good so far. I've had my ups and downs when it comes to classes but they are related to my diligence to complete the assignments. I've experienced nothing but respect from my professors and friends I've made there especially in my past Japanese courses. If you're into Japanese culture or would like to learn a language, I recommend taking the Japanese courses at DVC. Also check out the music department. I've been taking the intermediate guitar/ensemble course for the past couple of semesters and my experience has been great since then. You'll like the instructor, he's kind and patient and willing to help wherever you need it.Squeebosh

I enrolled at Diablo Valley College in the Fall semester of 2016 as an "adult learner". I hadn't been in a formal educational setting since high school, 20 years earlier. I was a bit apprehensive at the notion of returning to school after so long but that faded quickly. Everyone I met was very eager to help me find my way and be successful. I can't speak more highly about everyone in the Student Services department, the faculty and staff there, as well as the students. The environment is very welcoming and supportive.Ramiro Ibarra

I enjoyed my time here and I've had some great teachers. The parking is insane but you can generally pick up on the perfect times to go after a while of going there. The worst part is the financial aid office. They have given me trouble for years. It will take you a good 2 months to get your financial aid in order even if your information is exactly the same. They have lost my papers many times. If you don't have financial aid I think it's a good school, but if you are applying for financial aid, good luckHildreth Hamann

I was a student here, until they raised tuition and housing cost yet again. The school claims to give huge amounts of aid then revokes it if you get outside scholarships, and has hidden costs you will not find until after you attend. And I am sad to say, no one will help you if you find yourself in a position like mine where you have to leave after a semester. Not only that, but they won't refund my housing deposit because I am leaving before summer and many of my credits are not transferable to other schools. It is a beautiful campus, many of the teachers are very kind, but the huge flaws completely negate all this, I am sad that I turned down other schools to attend here. Let's be honest. This was your second choice. It's not the "best college in the world" or the "most beautiful campus in the world". Spent two years here and they were two years spent better elsewhere. Please, the is an extension of high school feeding mainly commuter students. Find your education and college experience elsewhere.
