Ordering books from the bookstore is a terrible experience. First, the books were listed as on back-order (which wasn't accurate, they just don't update it), but they charged TWENTY DOLLARS for GROUND shipping. If that's not gouging, I don't know what is. To add insult to injury, they require signature on the package, so I've now missed the package two days in a row because UPS won't leave it at my door. My experience at Stanly was awesome! I was in the Criminal Justice Program. All the instructors and advisors were excellent at directing me to what step was next. The instructors were very responsive to questions and helped me through the classes step by step. I graduated with a 4.0 GPA because of this. My professors and advisor were both attentive and understanding with any concerns I had. Furthermore, I was very well taken care of at this college. As a staff member I just wanted to clarify the review by Trudy. We do not ask for proof of residence to use our library. All community college libraries are public. Also, our computers are available to all our patrons for however long they would need to use them. In the event of all of them being used and a student needing to get on one we would probably ask a public library patron to accommodate the student. However we do have an adequate amount of computers that we haven't run into that problem yet. : ) If you want a nice quiet place to study, we are your library! It is especially quiet on days when school is out but we are open. The staff are friendly and willing to help with research and computer needs. We also have many interesting books and movies. Let's be honest, there are good things and bad things to this school. While the department the major I have is very small and thus more personal with you, especially with advising, the bigger departments like business are very impersonal with you, and hold rather strict barrings on until you complete the, to be honest, useless general education the college forces on you, though that is the case anywhere in America. It is almost arrogant in how they dismiss the ideas and opinions of the students in favor of their own. They are also known for their excessive penny pinching. With the prices on campus being outrageous, they also hold strict rulings for housing and parking, giving you hefty bills if you mess up on even the slightest infraction. Overall, the grand and upcoming productions they are doing with the school, such as the football field and new dorms and buildings, do not help the general student population much. Now, with this said, there are good things to this place. For one, in smaller departments, you get a generally more personal and kinder attention to you and your college career. With my department at least, as long as you show the ability, they help you get the classes you want and need. Also, at least on campus, school spirit runs deep with the green and gold. There are more than enough events to bolster this said school patriotism, and can eventually come to rival other schools. Also, while some professors have a tendency to stuff beliefs down the student's throats, others can be thought inspiring, and can be interesting and even fun to go to classes sometimes. However, the lousy administration still lingers over these benefits, and hampers the overall quality of the school. If they fixed that problem, they would be a good school. However, with that said problem, I can only recommend it, as a current student, as a mediocre to slightly above average at best school to prospective students. To them, I would look at your options and see if you want to come here. I do not regret the choice of coming to this school, but I cannot ignore its blatant and crippling flaws.Drunk Farmer

If you have a lot of money, or you're a research student or engineer, you probably won't have a problem with this school. The school looks very nice on the outside, but as a student, I hated it. The dorms were god awful. Their elevators did not work on the first day of move in. At one point they did not have enough rooms in the highrises for the students, and had to house students in the commons rooms and blackout the windows. The Cafeteria food was always questionable. Cold and pretty unimaginative. Facilities and services always closed down early. There was hardly anything open on the weekends. Not to mention there is barely any means of going anywhere outside of campus if you don't have a car. Speaking of cars, parking services is ridiculous and incompetent. They wrote me up even when I had my parking tag right on the windshield, positioned properly where it was supposed to be, and another time I got a ticket after the semester had ended! This school just looks for ways to nickel and dime students. They're department chairs and coordinators are a bunch of fools who can't manage their jobs. And when they make mistakes, you are the one who will probably end up paying for it.Eric Williams

I went to UNCC back in the mid to late 90s. All I can say is if I had a time machine, I'd love to go back. I met several life-long friends that I continue to hang out with to this day. It's amazing how much the campus has changed over the years. The last time I was there (for the first football game) I almost got lost. I received a fine arts degree and have made a career out of digital printing and design. According to other reviews, people still like to go home on the weekends. That was also the case when I attended, but for the brave that stay around the school during the weekend, more power to you. That's where the fun is really at. Also, I'm hearing that students aren't attending the football games and the ones that are, tend to leave early. All I have to say to that is, just be glad you have a football team. We were so sports deprived back in the day, we would go to all the basketball and baseball games. Good times!Chad Milburn

Seems though a lot of programs are being changed to WED classes and that means no degree, diploma, or college credit. Otherwise, still a great place to attend. I am a recent graduate of Kings College and for those who are reading this you may have questions about Kings College and I am here to share my experience at Kings with you. I entered the medical assistant program in the fall of 2013 and probably like many of you, I was ready and eager to start a great career. I graduated from King's in December 2016, with a diploma in Medical Assisting. The placement department sent me on multiple interviews, and I was offered a job with a large hospital in Charlotte within two weeks of graduation. King's is more expensive than a community college and it is true that credits do NOT transfer, but this is a fast track program. I was looking for a school that would prepare me for employment in a short period of time, and the cost was well worth it for me. After 8 months of classroom training, I was well prepared for my 8 week externship. The curriculum taught is exactly what is needed to be prepared to work in a medical office. The instructors are very knowledgeable in the subjects that they teach. They are all required to have at least a Masters Degree. King's College is well known in the medical community for putting out the most well prepared and knowledgeable MAs. I would definitely recommend this school to anyone who is looking for a fast track program with a reputable school.Classie Norfleet

The placement department at King's College is awesome. They are people who I believe from my experience genuinely care about the students. They go above and beyond and are also very empathetic people that strive to understand and help where they can. You can always tell who really enjoys their job! King's college as a whole is a great school and has great benefits. The placement department will assist you for the rest of your life in finding a job. King's College is the first school of business to be established in North Carolina and it truly is a school of business! As a current student here the only word I can use to describe this school is sad. The amount of competent people that work here can be counted on one hand. Most people I get help from (or try to at least) at this school can’t even answer the simplest of questions some of the teachers have great online platforms but the rest just dump a load of work on you and don’t put forth any effort to help you work through it. This college has made a terrible impression. They got me admitted as a transfer student, and I have been preparing for the Fall session online, but to appear in person, and I just found out I missed the registration deadlines because student advising never got back to me. I took the new student orientation and the professor, just skimmed through all the info. There wasn't time for questions, and she cut it short by 30 minutes. It didn't even explain how to register online. I had been in communication and prepared for this session but didn't understand how to register so all the classes I had 'added to my schedule' weren't actually registered, and no one followed up with my questions. I thought I was registered, and even as I try to register now after the fact, it still says I need student advising which no one ever got back to be except for an email to say I already had everything set up. I am torn about this. Now I have to wait another session to get started?! NO! I will take my education somewhere where I can actually get assistance. This is such an emotional drag.Gabrielle Flores

Sylvan Learning Center has been a huge help with my reading comprehension and integrated skills. I came to Sylvan in November with a very low reading level, and I now have been here for 8 months and I have improved my reading comprehension dramatically over these past 8 months. I still have a lot to learn, but i feel that the teachers here and the system they use has giving me the opportunity to grow as a student! I soon will be attending college and I feel that now after coming here for the past 8 months I will be able to apply the strategies I learned here, and bring them with me to college!! My son has had 16 hours of tutoring at Sylvan. Generally, he attends one hour a day Monday thru Thursday. He loves going. He has met new friends and enjoys receiving "tokens" for his hard work which he can "spend" in the learning center store. The staff at Sylvan are very pleasant and encouraging. We had our first conference with the Director of Education after 10 hours of tutoring. We were provided with a very impressive "progress update" which listed "skills mastered", "skills in progress" and "upcoming skills" . I really enjoyed the staff and the faculty at the campus. The night classes came in handy if you work full time during the day or if you have small kids to take care of. Also, with so many online classes it is much easier to handle the work/life balance and responsibilities. I like how clear everything is to understand, how the faculty are subject matter experts and work with people who need extra attention and extra patience as life can be challenging when juggling so much. The people in financial aid and the Dean are really good about answering questions and providing guidance and support. The class structures being one at a time in the semester and the small amount of people in the class help make it easier to have a relationship with the faculty. Don’t get me wrong, if you don’t study and you don’t focus, you will not succeed. But if what you want to do is get right to the point, work hard and get a job, this is the place to go. I know other people who have studied in different places and I honestly feel like when we talk about what classes I had to take and what material I had to study, I really feel like I got a lot more out of the experience than they did with theirs. This school needs to learn how to listen to the students sometimes. I can say that with some of the reviews they are right about the money part if I would’ve did more research i probably would’ve went somewhere else because how is it that I signed up for classes and did all the paper work but then when school starts and begin classes that all of sudden the books cost more then you expected. You should have known that before classes started or during the process prices don’t change overnight. The instructor i had no longer works here but she was a very good teacher, she made sure that you understand everything and always tried to relate it to everyday life things to help you remember and only because of her am i glad that i came here because she really made me fall in love with my program. Private school scam! Young adults, please don't fall for this. Sharon Palmer will manipulate you into signing over to pay fifty thousand dollars for a five thousand dollar course. All they care about is money and their credits don't even transfer. I withdrew in Novmeber and they still are triyng to get me to pay loans for classes I never attended. When I called them today, they said they split your fafsa in half (which makes no sense) and use the other half for the next semester wherther you go or not. This way, if the half doesn't cover the semester you're forced to take out a loan. Coretha and Sharon palmer spammed me with emails at one and two in the morning trying to coerce me into signing things and making me feel like it was life or death. Today was a hard day because of a misunderstanding and comment taken out of context I did not get the roller set I went there for I am very disheartened but will go elsewhere going forward because I was accused of making an insensitive statement that I know I didn't make. I called tonight needing help just to be told that my 13 year who isn't aggressive isn't a good fit. I thought this was a place to help families who need it. My daughter isn't a bad girl she is going through her adolescent years. I need a break from her so she can start therapy Tuesday. I was told she wasn't a good fit with the kids who are at the location now. If it's a youth crisis center would everyone fall under that umbrella? She isn't aggressive, she is sweet and kind. I have tried mental health they said she isn't suicidal they can't help. They gave me this place said she would be a great fit just to be turned down with poor excuses. The Supervisor Diana is rude. I requested several services and all she focused on was substance and recommended I try behavioral health in-take. The in-take specialist recommended the same and stated that he could get medicated at a behavioral facility in which I am trying to avoid. After several minutes, the Supervisor Diana admitted that they were full. I can say that after seeing my frustration, the in-take specialist, Asia was willing to make an appointment to see about therapy and the GED Program but I was so disappointed in the way it was handled. It seems as if our youth has to be so far gone in order to get help.Latasha Sinclair

International House is a Charlotte nonprofit organization with a focus on integrating foreign born residents into the Charlotte community. They help low income families, refugees, and asylees with free or low cost legal services through their legal clinic. They welcome diplomats, leaders, students and distinguished professionals from around the world through their Citizen Diplomacy Department. They offer English and Citizenship classes throughout the year, as well as free conversation hours for multiple languages. The have created a rigorous summer program for children in Mecklenburg County to prevent summer reading and learning loss. I simply cannot speak more highly about this organization!Elizabeth Bowling

Specially the hospitality of Program Director: Ms. Johnelle Causwell who is still remembered with good words. Horrible experience no help with registering for my classes until struggling for about 2 hours then I finally had someone ask do I need help, then she wasnt sure of helping me register for my class so grabbed another lady that work there and she wasnt sure so she grabbed someone else to helped confirm that my schedule was right, then I wanted to add another class she wasnt sure of what I need so was advised I have to meet with an adviser again, while waiting i asked about updating a student Id with 2020 sticker and parking sticker and books for classes and also financial aid which I asked could I get help doing the online app so it can be done correctly so it would be any delays only to get some rude guy who is the financial aid department give a sheet of paper and tell me I would have to do everything on the sheet independently then they can help me, which was very upsetting bc I asked for help to do it, then i was told by the cashier department that bc i dont have financial aid yet it will take about a week and all the class I enrolled into to start next week will be dropped bc I have to have financial aid in place/active now, so my 3 hours of being there is now down the drain a complete waste of time, I was failed by the first person I met with which was the adviser bc he should have advised me I need to have financial aid before applying for classes but he didnt and it just very disappointing and discouraging, they need people there to help people with registering, financial aid, books, ID , Parking stickers, bc I was all over the place trying to figure it out on my own and my time there was a waste of time and I still have to come back and redo everything I was trying to do today! I got an email from the Harper Campus stating that my book was ready for pick up TODAY Left my job to go pick it up since they close at 5. The VERY rude receptionist Michaela wanted nothing to do with me. She was on a personal Call for about 10 minutes before she even acknowledged my presence, then seemed irritated that she had to end her phone call to deal with me. She is now saying it wont be ready for pick up until the 31st? I’m not sure why they would tell me it was ready for pickup without attempting to Even see if it was in stock? Jasmine Hines does not return emails or phone calls. They charge more money and fees than other colleges for the same continuing Ed classes. Varsity Tutors has been terrific for our busy family! Before finding Varsity Tutors, trying to find a tutor that was available during the times we were available was such a challenge! I have 3 kids all with different after school activities (of course!) and trying to fit in tutoring for 3 different subjects seemed impossible until I found Varsity Tutors. I let them know the days and times my kids were available and they found me tutors that could meet our needs. I have one son in High School that thrives with the extra support from his tutors in Spanish 2 (Sarah) and Algebra 2 (Gary). We also used the service to get some extra writing practice for my Middle School son to prepare for a writing exam for the high school he wants to go to. We used a terrific tutor (Marc) who gave him the feedback he needed to improve his writing skills and gave him confidence for his exam. I have been 100% satisfied but more importantly, my kids are getting the extra support they need to be successful at school and have enjoyed working with their tutors! I love this site for homeschooling help with my child. They have live interaction with their students through zoom and provide work for them to print out before class(depends on the class). My child really feels like she is in class and likes putting answers in the chat. The educational teaching is up to par and anyone looking to enroll their kids, they have free classes or you could join their new membership for $19 a month. It helps give me some breaks from teaching and if your a busy mom like me, you will love the extra hand in help. We have had a great experience with Varsity Tutors! My 5th grade daughter was really struggling with math and organization in general which significantly impacted her grades and therefore her confidence. Since we've been working with VT, she has really turned her grades around to where she has made honor roll all year and is engaged in her school work. Taariq has been a great match for us and a very good addition to our daughter's routine. Varsity Tutors has also been communicative and supportive through our partnership. When malicious compliance is cross hybridized with stupidity, and perhaps a bit of regionalism-which-I-dare-not-mistake-for-bigotry, the result is Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont. Update (3/30/2022): Story changed again! Now it's: "We apologize for the inconvenience, but this item is no longer available. This was relisted by mistake. We have issued you a refund for the full amount you paid. Again, we apologize for this error. We hope that you would consider letting us earn your business back by trusting us enough to purchase another item in the future. Please let us know if there is anything else we can help you with. Thank you for supporting Goodwill and have a great day!" So when you do business with these scumbags, keep in mind they are stealing your items and then claiming it's 'not available.' They accepted my money and then only afterward said 'it wasn't available' and that was only after I'd complained. These are criminal unethical people.Aaron Lee

I've been going to Goodwill Industries almost since its inception. Whether it's for counseling or medical care at CCHC (Charlotte Community Health Clinic). Or CCT (Center for Community Transitions), which i attended and completed prior to their moving here. Or even purchasing clothes and books at their secondhand store. I even enrolled in their jobs program. Unfortunately, I'm still recovering from multiple surgeries and as of yet, I'm still unable too take advantage of all the fantastic programs that they have too offer. If you need assistance with anything; be it counseling, medical, dental, jobs or job training. This is the place to go. Whether you're underemployed, unemployed, a veteran, homeless or have a colorful past, there are programs and people here waiting to assist you. All you have to do is make the effort and they will assist you in anyway possible. This is the only place of it's kind that i know of where all of your needs can be met in one place. If you need a job, they will train you and pay you at the same time. Don't say what you can't do. What are you willing to do?. I have been to multiple outlet goodwill stores before but this one is by far the worst. It is not worth your time. Normal rotations at different places are 20-30 mins. This location’s rotation is as long as one hour and thirty minutes with the same clothes as the pervious rotations. They are a lot of safety hazards that go unresolved because of poor management. There is zero movement because of individuals’ carts and children running around under the bins. Every single time I am here, I place my bin up against the wall with a covering and it is never in someone’s way. There have been multiple occasions where people and kids steal stuff directly from my personal cart. They never enforce their rules completely and yell “Don’t Shop” but in reality they should be kicking those people out because majority of the time it’s the same individuals. Don’t get me started on the shoes because you might get punched in the face. This location is a “Free for All” and complete cluster f*#k. They will ultimately lose a lot of their business from people who go there every single day and find nothing.Ethan Nix
