20 Best G.E.D Programs In Baton Rouge, LA (2022 Updated)

I took the Creating Cajun class and had a blast! I'd recently moved to Baton Rouge from Illinois and had never before taking a cooking class. We made 5 different items with the chef instructor who gave clear instructions and was patient if you needed something repeated or had a question. Everything was pre-measured so it only took about 2 hours to cook the entire meal; and I had enough leftovers for 3 meals after that. Of everything we made, my favorites were the rice pilaf with andouille cream sauce, and the lemon coffee cake. I brought that back to IL and was able to share with my family here! They all loved it! We got a recipe booklet and I plan to cook a few of the items again. I'll be looking for more classes to take if I'm ever back in the area.Jayme Kirchner

The BBQ class was a birthday gift and I must say, it was the BEST birthday gift EVER!! It was so much fun & Chef Patin and the other chefs made the class so worth taking. I learned new techniques and got a recipe book that I’ll definitely be using! I always wanted to go to the Culinary Institute and this was the perfect opportunity to do that. I bought this culinary lesson as a birthday present for my 17 year old daughter. We had a fantastic experience. It was wonderful bonding time. I would highly recommend this class to anyone. I went here for the first time, PLEASE note this place isn't visible from the road. It also has construction work going on around the area, also the road to the school is pretty messed up. As far as the staff they are very friendly and carw about the education of young adults they offer G.E.D services for special needs adults and teens this place is REALLY hands on with their students no matter the age are the learning disabilities they are there to helpEunice Simon

They take forever to process your refund/loans and could care less about the impact it is having on your life. I’m a current online student. So I actually enrolled in April 2021 but had to stop studies for family/personal reasons. Recently I decided to enroll back into an online real estate course. I decided to try a different online school just out of curiosity. I did my research and wasn’t please with the reviews of some of the other local online schools so I enrolled with Real Estate Express and immediately requested a refund after seeing the configuration of their program. Different paragraphs were mixed together and it was hard for myself to comprehend the lessons when also trying to separate each concept of the lesson. So I enrolled with the CESHOP. Personally, I thought the information in the program was water down and information on the exams were not covered in the lesson. There was also a timer keeping track the hours you spend in the course which I found intimidating at time. I felt like being only 10% done with the course yet 59 hours into the 90 hour course was discouraging. So I told myself the saying of if it’s broke, don’t fix it and reenrolled in Burk Bakers School and here’s why: 1) He was very intentional of how the course would be planned to not overwhelm you as a new student. Here’s what I mean, Lesson 1 covers Agency relationship, something easy to comprehend and to keep your interest, then the lessons progress and eventually gets to the Louisiana Law portion. By then you’re so far into the lesson that you’ve build up momentum for the last stretch. 2) The audio portion of each course is live from a classroom session helps to drive in concept that you’re learning by reading. So you’re visually and audibly learning. You’re also given PDF materials of things like the study books, glossary and etc. so you’re fully and we’ll equipped as an online student. He was very intentional in making sure that online students get the same quality as in person. 3) my favorite, I live in Mandeville. So the student help telephone and email as well as the free math tutoring session is a plus and I plan on taking advantage of all of the help to help me understand Real Estate and passing my exams. My advice is to really consider this personal review and Burk Baker’s School of Real Estate & Appraisal. There’s a lot of wisdom in this program. Also, take advantage of buying the study aid. My first go around I wasn’t interesting in purchasing however this time, I’ve chosen to buy the flash card set.Jasmine Johnson

Youth Oasis helped me and my husband SOOOOOO much. I really wish I could give these guys more than 5 stars. My husband and I were living with a really toxic family member after moving from Vegas to Baton Rouge and we were apartment searching, and I’m really glad that our case manager shannon stepped in and made sure that we didn’t end up in a bad apartment with bad reviews. They helped with deposit and first month rent which was such a BIG help, and when we went to the building all the staff seemed really nice and I was greeted with a smile from everyone. I LOVE this program and I 100000/100 recommend it. I’m pregnant with my first child and they are willing to help me with baby stuff when I find out the gender which really means a lot to me. Terrible customer service at this location and the marked up prices are ridiculous. I get better deals literally at every other Goodwill in town. Sometimes they do have good deals but whatever. My final straw today – If a cashier opens another register then literally the next person in the other line should be helped – not the person in the back of the line. So the people ahead of me should have gone but nope, just pull all the people behind me. Went to store today and noticed there was aloy of dirty clothes on the rack. There was dog and cat hair and just dirt on the knees of pants. I mentioned to one of the managers there and she told me it was from the clothes being dropped on the floor, and my response was “ so y’all have dog and cats here?” She didn’t respond and got an attitude with me. Is Goodwill going out of business? The stores in Baton Rouge have stuff literally everywhere and the shelves are empty. I saw donations at this store and there were racks of clothes all over the sales floor. I almost tripped over one. Plus baskets were fill with miscellaneous stuff. Saw the same thing at the other stores I stopped at. Also, I was unable to find any worthwhile items to purchase. FYI: other customers were saying the same thing.Lisa Thomas

I got a lot out of my course and my instructor Chelie was very knowledgeable and engaging. I learned quite a few tricks to use to help my work processes operate more smoothly. Your experience depends on who's working tbh. I got charged the wrong price for something and didn't notice until I was already heading home, so I came back a few days later to get it fixed. The guy who I went to (who was also the one who charged me wrong in the first place) looked at me like I was being a nuisance about the refund even though I was completely polite, and said "well what do you want me to do about it" when I told.him what happened. He then continued to look at me with irritation while his manager fixed it and gave me store credit for the difference. He was tall, pale, with brown hair cut short. Friendly employees, but need more stuff on the shelves. Store is in the middle of the city which probably doesn't help because it's always very picked over, but many of the shelves sit empty. Absolutely the worst customer service. Just came from there (9/8/21 2:00 pm) and (as usual) the line to check out was to the other side of the store. One register open and the guy working had one speed…low gear. I was in line for over 30 minutes and only moved from the 4th to the 3rd person in line. Ridiculous. Several people in line asked him to call for help and open another register, but he wouldn't even look at them, much less answer. When he had a problem ringing something he left for a while and came back with a manager (both moving very slowly)….who appeared just as inept and had to call someone on his phone for help. After waiting in line for 35 -40 minutes, I realized that it ain't gonna happen today (as did several other people who put their stuff back and left). The manager guy also ignored all of us in line and wouldn't look at us either. This is not the only time it's been like this…it seems to be their default way of running this location. You need better, more competent people running things on O'Neal, but it seems you just don't care. Do better! UPDATE!: Went back to this store later that day around 6 pm and it was completely shut down. No sign on the door, no explanation, just…Closed. Wowl. Supposed to open until 8 pm. UPDATE 2: Went back to store on Thursday (next day) to make my purchase. Nicely explained to the manager that I tried, TWICE, to purchase on Wednesday (which is Senior discount day), and asked if they would honor the discount since, through no fault of my own, I could not make the purchase Wednesday. Her response? "Sorry, Wednesday is Senior day, nothing I can do about it, it's out of my hands." Unbelievable. These people care NOTHING about customer service. BTW, as stated in other reviews, this store's pricing IS the highest of all the Goodwill stores in Baton Rouge and Denham Springs. BEWARE!Michael Morgan

Absolutely the most ridiculously priced Goodwill (or thrift store in general) I have ever been to (and I’ve been to many)! This Goodwill location has the most outrageous prices and I am truly in utter shock every time I’ve gone in and seen the prices. Like, it’s laughable. Someone else left in their review that the employees who price things take it way too personally, as if these are their personal belongings. I couldn’t agree more with this. The workers pricing the items seem for some insane reason to be attached and possessive of the items. It’s even more hilarious when you remember that these items were DONATED for FREE to the store. This is not Pottery Barn, nor is it an antique/vintage/consignment shop. Unlike those types of stores, they don’t pay a cent for these items they are charging ridiculous prices for. I am a customer of the Goodwill locations on Burbank, College and Coursey multiple times a week and have friendships with employees at each of those locations. It makes me very sad that on the few and far between occasions that I do stop by the O’Neal location I have repeatedly found that (1) the prices are laughably outrageous and (2) the customer service is awful. I have met ONE employee who actually was responsive and kind to me, and she only started working there within the last month. I can’t even imagine the idea of one of the other Baton Rouge locations charging the amount that O’Neal does on literally anything in the store. I love supporting Goodwill because I know they enable individuals with disabilities and other impairments to work and have support, but I don’t see how this location alone can begin to justify the ridiculous prices and rude, boastful attitudes of 99% of their employees. The service here is hit or miss. Some of the employees are really nice and offer help and greet you, while others don't want to be bothered by you. The store is very clean and well organized. The manager is excellent. Nice selection of sunglasses, umbrellas, and jewelry. Nice selection of coffee mugs. I never had any luck with clothing here as some of the shoppers are very aggressive. Most of the customers are cool though. Last visit I left with a bag filled with breakable items, none of which the cashier wrapped. All and all a fun shopping venture. Up date: under new management. All my breakable items got wrapped in newspaper. All the employees offered help and very friendly. This location has improved, so they earned 5 stars from me. the staff is so ridiculously incompetent. the advisors never answer emails, sometimes ill send an email and wait a week for a response and never get one, so ill send another email, and another, and another, and finally get a response that most of the time doesnt even answer the full question being asked. different staff members will also tell you conflicting information, leaving you confused on what you’re supposed to do. you can never get ahold of anyone to help you. my boyfriend went here as well and was given the wrong schedule of classes which ended with him needing to attend an extra semester to take the class he actually needed. also they practically have new advisors for each major every year, and they never tell you when your advisor has changed or even update the website, so you just have to email the old one 40 times before they finally answer and tell you who you’re supposed to be emailing. if you dont like being stressed and confused all the time i recommend u just go somewhere else!Mia Carbo (Meyuh)

I have been a student here for 2 years and I have no idea how they have any students. No matter how early you submit financial aid they process at the last minute. At least twice I have had to contact the department of education to explain changes on my student aid that they could not justify or explain. As of today it has been 1 solid month trying to get someone on the phone to ask questions about my financial aid which has been submitted 2 months ago but still not processed. When you do manage to get someone on the phone they are rude and often give conflicting information from one department to the next. The excuse is always that they are swamped with calls, which to me is an invalid excuse! If that many calls coming in they should use the money collected from tuition to hire more people to answer the call of the students paying their salary.This will be my last semester at this school! Their financial aid office is absolutely HORRIBLE! I was first approved for aid that I apparently don't qualify for. Once approved, it later disappeared, and I was never notified that I wasn't qualified for it. After learning my classes weren't secured, I only was able to get in touch with the financial aid office through their live chat online, and I'd been trying to get in touch via email and phone for days beforehand. They do not answer phone calls or emails, which I find extremely unprofessional. After finally getting in touch with them, I learn I qualify for a different financial aid package, approve it, then it disappears again. Turns out, Im not qualified for that either and was again never notified. If you have to deal with their financial aid office, good luck!A H

If I could give this school zero stars I would. Some of the teachers need to grow up and mature more. Some of the staff members need to learn how to communicate better. This school is so unorganized and they wonder why children drop out of school. All they do is provoke these kids. It's so sad. I am in the gifted and talented program at McKinley Senior High. This 2012-13 school year, I am a sophomore. I transferred to this school from BRMHS, a magnet school, and was and am extremely pleased that I left. The magnet program is just not the same. If you are an identified gifted student, I STRONGLY recommend staying in the gifted program and coming to McKinley. All 5 of my G/T teachers exceed expectations. Each of my core classes is challenging; I learn something every day. (As of this school year, we have all 7 classes every day, in order.) Also – I have been in the Talented Visual Art program since 1st grade and have never loved it as much as I have at McKinley. It is worry-free, unlike the other Art programs I have been in at other schools. The lack of stress has an amazing effect on students' work – it is beyond belief. Unfortunately, I am only speaking for the gifted, talented, and great scholars programs. I have no idea what goes on in the traditional program at McKinley and therefore cannot comment on it. The only problems I have with the school have to do with the organization. At the beginning of the year, everyone's schedules are jumbled and, this year, it took 1.5 weeks to work it all out. At other schools, students are already taking tests on what they've learned during the time that we are simply trying to get our schedules fixed. If you want to go to McKinley, you are going to have to accept this kind of thing, as the school is extremely overcrowded and the administration scrambles to accommodate. Despite these downfalls, McKinley is worth it to me. I would urge every gifted/great scholars student to at least try it for a semester. I'm definitely staying for the rest of my high school years!Anna Sheffield

Well first of all the busses are late constantly for my child. The teacher especially in the gym told my child to not dress out on fridays but made a grade anyway now he has an F in weightlifting II. The lunch is very rude, it's undercooked, dry, underseasoned, but sometimes tasty. The school definitely beffa to be rebuilt because of all the ild structure and wood. The school is not nearly cleaned as it should be. The library needs to be a ton bigger. Also, the teachers are very much so not good. Some you can't understand, some curses at you, or some don't know what they are doing themselves. Also, because of the bus being late for my student he catches pneumonia and had very bad bronchitis and asthma. I would like for the school structure, busses, lunch, library, and teachers to improve. I would like to help mckinley get a new structure like lee high. HOW IN THE F****** WORLD DID LEE MAGNET HIGH GET $1MILLION FOR THEM BUT MCKINLEY CANT EVEN GET $10,000. I honestly 100% blame the East Baton Rouge Paris School System and the state of Louisiana. I went to this School in its rebuilding period and the teachers put everything into what they do. Your success is their success. I was initially going to attend Delgado Community College's program but now that I am in the work field I am glad I didn't. I have worked with several former Delgado students who are not very versatile do to the lack of variations in their clinical sites. At BRG we rotated through at least 10 different types of clinical settings which prepared me to work in different in different entities of radiology.JONES RAPHAEL

I was in and out within 15minutes minutes for a injury to my leg. I was not given the necessary information about my injury, got an ace bandage and was simply told "use it or not". I had an open wound which wasn't cleaned. At the end of the visit after receiving a shot for pain I was given crutches and I was walked out dizzy and nearly falling all the way to the door. No one even offered to assist. I wasn't even given release instructions or any paperwork… I am in awe!!!!!!Ashley Rebelle
