I went to Chesapeake after my service year in AmeriCorps which served as my gap year after high school. I studied Computer Information Systems: PC & Network Management and also took part in the Honors Program as well. The classes within my field always proved beneficial and relatable to what I do on the job and also paved the way for my certifications. The general education courses served their purpose and prevented me from having to take any other ones when I transferred. If you didn't get immediately accepted into a university out of high school or if you're a returning student, Chesapeake is a great starting location to start your studies anew.Aaron Wilt

The school maybe nice, I never had the opportunity to explore, however; their paramedic program is a joke. The staff runs each class on different criteria, for instance my instructor (Wesley Carter) stated we don't do pulse checks in CPR after the first check indicating an arrest. However; as a BLS CPR instructor that is false and the AHA teaches pulse check. However; he was my instructor so in order to test out I did as he wanted and when a different instructor tested me they failed me for using the broslow tape and for not checking pulses, said I should have done it by weight based and the broslow tape is a guideline. Since then I have spoken to several national certified paramedics, nurses, and physicians that state this school is a joke and shouldn't be teaching students period and that the broslow tape is there for a reason to assist in dosing a pediatric patient when weight is not obtained. The instructors can't get on the same page and give out different requirements and if you do what one says it's wrong to every other instructor. Also they give you test out scenarios at the end every instructor does 2 which is you standard, set by North Carolina and my instructor is the only one that does 3 scenarios. No uniformity and poor quality instructors. Horrible experience that I will never get my time, my money, and my family gatherings, birth of my child, and events because these people are not on the same page.Kevin Meiser

Get me outt. If I could drop out i would. This college is awful I learn more from quizlet then I have with any teachers. The teachers here are all lazy and only care about their paycheck. I asked for help and never got a response from one teacher and I still haven't :P. What I would give to be able to drop out from this college. 2 stars for providing a college beyond high school in Kinston. One star for pay compared to other community colleges that pay adjunct instructors $35+ per hour. How has LCC contributed to Lenoir County in skills and talent? On Pitt college's website it states that its students have contributed over $114 million dollars to the local community. I walked around the college grounds and it is boring, no energy or excitement. Lastly, LCC should market more to Black students and the Black community because although Kinston is almost 70% Black; it's not reflected in its student body. I recently finished my second Technical degree for Metal Fabrication as a returning student. I delayed going back to school for years for lots of reasons, but mostly because I thought it would be as awful of an experience as High School was. Instead the teachers in my program were excellent. I was always challenged by the projects and supported in my learning in equal measure. If you're looking to get into welding or Metal Fabrication, these programs are career fields that need people, pay well, and you can learn them here! Don't sleep on the trade skills that can be taught here. Go to the open houses, see if these are things you're interested in doing. A 4 year degree isn't The guarantee of employment it used to be, but these one year Technical degrees, leading to in demand fields are.Travis H

Very nice tech college. Almost everyone you come across on campus can point you in the right direction. I just started school today online. But tomorrow I get to go to campus. It's a clean sanitary environment. There is currently some remodeling going on, so part of the building you cannot access… yet! AC was on, felt awesome. temperature didn't change much room to room either. All the employees seem to know their job very well and are willing to help. I chose Madison Area Technical College because I know many people that have graduated and successfully got into a job they wanted. This school is also smaller than UW Madison so I feel like the learning experience is better, more hands on, more participation versus a large school such as UW Madison.Shane Toycen

The good profs here are all just professors moonlighting from UW Madison, I'd honestly say you should apply to and go to literally any other UW system school before here. The quality of education isn't bad- but they somehow managed to misplace finances and put 650 bucks into collections randomly – without mailing me any notifications, and without a notifications on the online portal. You won't get competency from any of the administrative staff, expect 5 week long waits to see a counselor for any sort of urgent need. If you are a student with a disability – make sure you have additional copies of any medical documentation, they will claim to lose it. Most of the education staff despises the administrative staff and yeah, I can see why.Bee

Up until this point it has been a few small hurdles that have been resolved fairly quickly and would leave my rating at a 4 star rating. However, this previous semester has been nothing but a nightmare when it comes to the bookstore and financial aid. The bookstore website offers laptop computers. So I attempted to order one using my financial aid. The order was cancelled and I had to visit the bookstore, which turned into having to get some kind of voucher to use my own financial aid for a computer. After some back and forth about not supposed to have been awarded a voucher in the first place, they accommodated the voucher to get me my laptop. After getting all that squared away, I checked back in to make sure my financial aid had covered my books, the laptop, and my classes. To which I was told it did. Or as of today, it was supposed to be any way. I went to schedule my classes and was met with a wonderful message online that my account is on a hold due to bookstore charges that I already have a receipt from in August (Almost 2000 dollars with the laptop). Almost 4 months later and something that was taken care of is now suddenly still a problem. As of right now it's being looked into by a financial aid office worker that has been very helpful through all of this but my review will still stand until this is rectified. Also I will no longer be using the bookstore because the risk of getting anything through financial aid there just isnt worth it. I am a current student, most professors are great. But without fail every semester I have issues with financial aid. They took my pell grant back out of my account the last week of school even though I’m taking enough credits and my classes qualify. I now owe over $700 out of pocket that I don’t have. They took my sub/unsub loans away ( again, I qualified for these) and I had to call 9+times and send multiple emails to get them restored. It’s the last week of the semester and they still haven’t been disbursed to my account. I’m an all A student. I’m pretty sure I spend more time dealing with Financial aid mishaps than I do on schoolwork. Sad. I have also enrolled in a class in a previous semester that was canceled by the school. Highly inconvenient. UPDATE: The Director of Financial Aid was able to look at my account and fix both my Pell Grant and student loans! I just have to wait for the next dispersment period. I guess we’ll see if it happens. Changed score from 1 star to 2 stars. UPDATE: They reissued my pell grant, but the semester had ended and they still have not issued my sub/unsub loans.Megan Ellis

Honestly, as a mother, I am very disappointed in Wheeling University since there is a lot of discrimination and bullying by students and university staff. I never had a chance to visit barry university before enrolling and I wound up not liking the area. The area outside of it is very ghetto and the dorms are smaller than what is shown on the layout online. I didn't feel safe in the general area so I withdrew from the university during the grace period where I should've gotten a 100% refund on classes and an 80% refund on housing. It's been almost two months since I signed and dated the form where I only agreed on paying 20% for housing and 0% for classes. I had not gone to any classes and now I am moved out and enrolled in a different college. I am still being given hell on this process where they were only responsible for calculating the 20% on housing that I owed and signing a withdrawal form. It's taken them two months to do these simple tasks that should've been made a priority and I was told it would be. I am now being billed for $7,050 for classes. For what classes? I hadn't gone to any and withdrew during the grace period. I have copies of my withdrawal form stating what I signed for and printed copies of the official website stating the corresponding dates and percentages for refunds and billing. They are now either going to resolve this issue right away or I will be in the process of sueing the university. This is ridiculous. The only person I can say actually had done their job was my academic advisor who also agreed that this process has been a ridiculous money scam.Miranda Moran

What can I say: I love Barry. Even though I live way up here in Jax, I commuted down there for classes once a month. It was worth it to me. I’m in the PhD nursing program and I can say it really changed my life. Dr. Jessie Colin, who is also my chair, is the most intelligent and remarkable person I have ever met. The 5 stars is for her and how she is running the doctoral program. Thank you Dr. Colin! The rest of the nursing faculty are also wonderful. Lovely women (too many to name). I’m so glad I made the decision to come to this school. I’ve learned so much that this post would be too long to describe it all! It’s an intellectually challenging program, so be ready to learn. This school in general really focuses on social justice. If you are not open minded to multi-culturalism and discovering new ways of thinking outside of the norm, this may not be the school for you. I tell people this because I know how the culture is in America today (ignorance is bliss). You have to accept to live the ‘Barry Life’, which is being open to culture and seeking justice for those whose voices might go unheard. Like some say on other reviews, yes, the area in which the school is in is kinda sketchy. And be prepared, the student parking is awful. Barry University is the worst. I was enrolled for one semester in 2013. The way the school system is set up is terrible. NO ONE is on the same page, rarely will credits transfer, teachers do not truly care or seemed interested in making personal relationships (mind you this is a PRIVATE college), and lastly…getting your transcripts sent to other colleges is the HARDEST. They go through different programs like "Transcripts on Demand" so there's no help from Barry because they don't even know whats going on in the transcript process. They just buy some company to come handle all of their students and transcripts for them. My transcripts are now late being sent to two different colleges and its been over a month since I sent my consent form (since when do you need a consent form to sent transcripts…usually you pay a fee and that's that). They want everyone to attend classes on campus. Come on. They proudly and loudly proclaim "Saint Paul College – We're Back this Fall". There are multiple new COVID variants out now with record hospitalizations in MN but Saint Paul college wants us all on campus. My wife and I are both working from home. Our employees cared enough about our safety to let us do this, but Saint Paul college wants us all on campus. My wife is taking classes at a private college and they told her all classes will be online, at least for now. No need to risk your health and come in, but Saint Paul college wants us all on campus. Thankfully I did my research by talking to them and decided against going here. Spending a little more so that I can stay at home and take my Lit classes online. Don't bother with this place. If you can, spend a little extra and have the peace of mind that you won't end up in the ICU with a tube down your throat. There, I did my research so you don't have to. Feel free to call them. I love my job, but I often see aids being treated pretty poorly. So, as I get older, I thought maybe I could look into being an LP . In this role, I could work fairly with the aides around me…blah, blah, blah. So I requested more information. I recieved no call back, only an email saying I had to put an application in. Eh, no. I ate at the City View Cafe at St. Paul College. This is the cafe that is operated by the students in the culinary program. I recently enjoyed the Valentines Tasting menu and it was fantastic. The only criticism I had for the meal was the shell on the dessert was a bit thick (I cannot believe I am complaining about dessert). It was hard to gracefully eat but it was so worth it. The combination of flavors was divine. If this meal was any indication of the talent these students have, we are going to have sone great chefs (hopefully in the Twin Cities area) in the future.Sharon Moen

It only gets worse once you are enrolled. You are a student ID number and a tuition fee. I wish I was lying when i say my English teacher has not graded any writing assignments this semester until yesterday after I spoke with the dean and lost my temper (3 weeks to end of semester). This was my first (and last) semester here, I had enrolled in online classes and transferred credits from a community college in Tennessee, being a working adult. If you are just jumping through the hoops to have a degree under your belt and don't care if you actually learn anything, its a fine place to do that. if you expect to get the education you are paying for to increase your knowledge base and be better prepared for your future, this is the wrong place. I feel really bad for the recent high school grads and others from the local school systems who have not had exposure to quality education to be able to tell the difference and recognize that they are being short changed/taken advantage of, and its the students who will suffer from being under-prepared, not the college or the instructors. Pitt Community College has not been a good experience for me at all. I received no help from the financial aid office, they told me they could do nothing for me unless I had a parent present even though I am 20 years old and am completely independent from them and they love in a whole other state. Don't even get me started on the "advisor" situation there. I was assigned to a "success navigator" not an advisor and he had no idea what he was doing. His name is Clark Howerton. Being a first generation college student, I needed guidance so I went to him. He offered me 0 help at all. I was then transferred to a "real" advisor during my 3rd semester there. She again offered no help. I had to email her 2 times over the course of a week, so that I was finally able to get a response. Instructors told me that she was not a good advisor… so why is she one? Because of these mistakes through pitt, I am falling behind in my academic schedule. Would not recommend this institution to anyone.Presley Bryant

I was informed that I'm not eligible to apply to the online MBA program because I don't meet the work experience requirements (I have over 6 years of work experience – just not managerial/professional). The business school is not even accredited by any of the 3 major business school accrediting agencies (ACBSP, AACSB, or IACBE), which is actually rare to find in a university as large as UC. Yes, they are a “member of ACBSP” but they are NOT accredited by this agency. Having any of these business accreditations assures students that its business programs are of high quality and adheres to standards based on latest research and business practices. AACSB is the gold standard that uses research as base on practice and accredits private and public universities like Harvard and many state universities. ACBSP/IACBE usually accredits insituitions that are either have created new business programs and are looking to be AACSB accredited or are lower ranking than AACSB acccredited ones and usually uses a occupational & hands on approach to learning. Without out said accreditation(s) the UC mba program actually ranks lower than many for profit business schools like University of Phoenix, Devry University, & Capella- who are all at least accredited by ACBSP, which should be looked at as the bare minimum for students looking into MBA programs.Josh Esc

Clean cut at its best. Given the shenanigans going on at most college campuses today, it was nice to see respect and professionalism on display everywhere. No ragged and torn clothing, no Rand McNally maps running up and down arms (tattoos) no steel dangling from noses, no pants hanging half off butts, one could feel pride in America and hope for the future when touring this vast and beautiful campus. A quick tour showed this to be a non-nonsense, education first, institution. Having been in the military, it did not take me long to figure out that the "fast walkers" were freshmen. They stuck to their designated walkways, off the sidewalks for the most part, walking at a fast clip with a pronounced gait, and making sharp right turns at the corners. We would go back in a heartbeat and you should too when you start to lose faith in America. Different uniforms but it reminded me a lot of Annapolis. God bless the USA.Jack

“The Citadel” is the Pride of the South! We have quite a few family and friends that are graduates of The Citadel. My son will be graduating High School in 2023 so we took time this Summer to visit colleges with our first stop here. Our Admissions Officer, Josh Simons (also alumni) gave an excellent presentation. If you’re not serious or dedicated to higher education and pushing yourself mentally and physically to be your absolute best, this isn’t the school for you! If you’re a leader or want to be and you have honor, understand duty, respect others and authority then you may be a candidate. I have confidence and hope my son will choose to be a cadet. I’m not sure why this university is not more widely recognized across the United States. I am from the North East and some people have not heard of it. I went to this Community College back in the Mid-2000s. When I first started, I scored very low on the English/Math/Comprehension Reading so I had to start with the prerequisite course before I could entered the college level courses. After a year and a half, I struggled with the academic (English/Math/Comprehension Reading) and all the teachers I had at that time would just advise me to go to the computer lab/learning room for help and never did help me improve on a one-on-one basic. I felt like I was never appreciated in those classes. At that current time, D2L was starting in place so portion of the classes' discussion/homework were online. I still remember other students never helping me and always correcting or making fun of my errors in writing. There was a teacher's conference one-on-one meeting with every student and I still remembered it until this day. The last words from that teacher was, " With how you are doing in this class, you will not make it and I would have to fail you." I dropped out of Century College soon after and owed a couple thousand dollars in debt. Long story short: Then I decided to transferred to InverHills Community College (IHCC) and that was where the difference came in. The feeling and care for the students were so different. Teachers' there at InverHills Community College were able to help and assist me to improve my academic issues that I had. I still remember a teacher staying 30 minutes-45 minutes later after class just to help me everytime. I graduated at IHCC with my associate's degree then proceed onwards to finishing my Double Major Bachelor's Degree at MetroState University.John Bradley

Apathetic faculty providing misinformation at an obvious cash grab. The counselors are useless and ended up providing me with false information that delayed my education while also costing me thousands of dollars. They absolutely refused to take any responsibility and side-stepped my inquiries every single time. While I did have some excellent instructors, it was always a toss up what type of instructor I would get. Four times out of five I ended up with an instructor who either didn't care about the class they were teaching or just plain didn't have the aptitude to teach the class. Most times I ended up teaching my courses to myself. There really seems to be no standard of education that the faculty strives for. I would not recommend anyone to attend this college. Before I get a response from anyone at Century I'll make it known that I have no interest in filling out any sort of suggestion card or survey. Enroll here. I'm highly satisfied with my experience at Century College as a student. The post-secondary education community here has gone beyond my expectations to support my continued education as a transfer student. I'm thankful for the experienced instructors, who have given me a wealth of knowledge here. The support staff are excellent, including TLC, Writing Center, Math Center, Advising, Counseling, Information Technologists, and Librarians. They connect students with excellent resources outside of the classroom. I Graduated as and honor student earned my A.O.S as a CMA. I was told by centura that they would help me find a Job. It never happened. And I search for a Job for 2yrs and I even tried to volunteer for doctors office's and private care. I was told since I didn't have any experience they couldn't assist me I had to have at least 1yr experience in the field. I feel like I was deceived and tricked into a student loan and I no longer have my certification because I couldn't find a Job I still have my degree but if I wanted to search for a Job in the field again I would have to go back to take the test or a refresher course. Meaning paying more money and that's not going to happen. I'm really considering taking this issue further legal actions against this school for misleading and deceptive information having people to believe that they are going to get a job and instead your stuck with dept.. Waste of time and money didn’t learn anything. They make you pay for books that you’ll never open because everything’s on the computer, you basically teach yourself. More computer action than hands on and lecture and lectures are read word for word out the books the put online, no clarity . I’m leaving the program with little knowledge from that school and not confident that I’ll pass the certifications and actually get a job in the field. First Google post I have ever made…………Facility and Staff are top notch. This has to be the best facility in the Tidewater area for BLS and ACLS training.
