I started school April and I’m close to going out to externship, but I have to say my journey with Pima has been a positive experience. You’re getting your hands dirty in labs, which is a nice because you aren’t sitting in a classroom trying to cram that information with flash cards. And having that prior experience before you leave for an actual job site will be extremely useful and beneficial for you once you hit the ground running. Not only do they help you focus on what exactly it is you need to start your future career in the field of your choosing, but their student resources are easy to access and have them help you with whatever questions you may have. I had a great experience in this school. I started the journey without knowing what to do, and without expecting anything from me. This school made me fall in love with a career I never thought I would be in (Dental Assistant). Ms. Hicks made me feel welcomed since the first day, I got to her class, and had a great time. Dr. Cuellar and Ms. Leslie as well made enjoy going to school and wanting to learn everyday. They not only teach what you need to learn, but why you need to learn it too. Everything I saw in class, helped me be more prepared when I started externship, and it made it really easy. Wonderful staff that very caring and helpful to make sure you have what you need to learn. The programs all start at a basic level so it's easy to get back up to speed if you've been out of school for a long time and they are very helpful at ensuring you have a solid start to your chosen career. The pharmacy program was a delight and I've never been so excited to go to class, Mr D is a great teacher and is always available to assist if you're struggling. I learned a lot very quickly during my program and Mr D made the whole experience fun and enjoyable. I want to thank Troy, Kelsey, and Andrew for an amazing experience! Troy was great and patient with me while I was trying to get my ducks in a row. Kelsey gave the class/refresher for me and did a great job, she made the class super cool and understanding and was able to show proper technique as well as tips and tricks! Andrew supervised Kelsey’s class and also did the refresher for the first aid. It was a fun and funny experience, I was nervous at first but they were all super nice and we’re able to calm my nerves. Katie, OJ, and the team provided a very educational and professional AHA ACLS course. As a retired military leader, I have a great appreciation for "train to standard, not to time". Although this phrase was never mentioned during the course, Katie (who appears to be well-experienced in emergency and pre-hospital care) was able to focus on areas we all needed the attention and less time on areas we were able to show proficiency. Majority of ACLS & BLS courses are generally the same due to criteria set by AHA so it really comes down to the instructor & supporting staff. CPR123 staff made that difference by having a great instructor (Sam) with decades of real life work experiences able to put book material into practical knowledge & context to be used in real time whether in the field, hospital, dental office or home emergency. Disassembled a hard topic into manageable pieces effectively. In person setting was great with immediate clarification and/or corrections made by staff versus other courses that give you many online scenarios & leave you to figure it out on your own through tedious trial & error sometimes leaving you more confused & lost then before you started. Look forward to renewing ACLS in the future with CPR123 instructor Sam & great to know they have other courses such as IV needle placement which was worthwhile to attend as well.Terry Kim

I had a wonderful experience with CPR 123 today for CPR certification renewal. They were able to fit me into a course same day which was exceedingly helpful for me, and Mariah was a wonderful instructor. She was clearly passionate about the material, extremely knowledgeable, very friendly, and a great teacher. She efficiently but thoroughly went through all the material, helping us to all be prepared for the skills test, written test, but also for real-life scenarios in the future. I attended a BLS/CPR session for my 2 year renewal and was very happy with the course! Mariah was a great instructor who really simplified the material and emphasized important information we really needed to know. I’m a local Austin nurse for over the last decade, one of many professions that require among perhaps others, basic life support certification by the American Heart Association, and every two years I go to this facility for it. It’s quick, it’s fast, they’re knowledgeable, and as someone who procrastinates down to the wire of needing to renew my BLS, there is always a class that I can sign up tomorrow (in my experience). If for nothing else, add their contact and website to your notes app. If you need a cert, check these guys out. I no longer need to keep ACLS up to date, so I couldn’t speak to that. But if you take BLS often, then you’ll know these certs can be certain degrees of tedious. I’d say over the years, I’ve never complained about that with these guys and gals.Ken Dait

Very helpful to have a place to go to for CPR renewal vs call individual CPR certified trainers who are hard to contact or don’t respond. My only complaint is was it was a little hard to find when I was following directions from GPS. I missed the exit from 183 then once I got there, there are multiple offices so I had to walk around trying to find building A from where I parked at building E. The course content is excellent and Professor Juddson is awesome. Being an online course, it was quite the surprise to see the level of response from Texas EMS School whenever I had a question or need. They were flexible and worked with me on getting my rotations completed. As long as you stay on track and meet the deadlines that are given you, the course goes by pretty quickly. Don't think for a minute that it's easy though. Be prepared to commit 3-4 hours per chapter and be challenged. I learned that the variables that present themselves with each case is unique and can have more than one solution. Learning to navigate through the physiology and pathophysiology to help the patient is very challenging and rewarding. If you are looking for an online EMT school that allows you to work and maintain a social/family life, this is what you are looking for.Kevin Murphree

I had a fantastic experience with Axon Education. Their program allows the student to complete assignments, quizes and tests on their own terms. The coursework is challenging and fun. The support from the professors is amazing. I was able to work ahead and finish the course sooner than expected. Yes, it's a difficult course if you don't put the effort into it. But they design the exams to be difficult so that the student is fully prepared to take the National Registry of EMT exam. I passed the NREMT on my first try, and it's due to the rigorous nature of the Axon Education course, and thanks to the professors who endured endless questions from me and always helped to ensure I fully understood the concepts. This was a while ago but I have to say something since I heard this place being recommended. The owner/instructor R.Chambers yelled and was incredibly cold to one of my classmates. He said, "I don't understand why you don't get this. It's not that hard." Mind you, this was ACLS… not BLS. And we paid for this course, so to act so blatantly rude to a paying customer who is just trying their best is just uncalled for and completely unprofessional. This is by far the best accelerated program available. From the time you arrive, they make you feel special. Each instructor has their own unique way of explaining the material. They share stories and techniques from years of real world experience. For someone like me, the visualization of actual events was much easier to understand than attempting to visualize the scenarios provided in the book. Not only would I recommend Texas EMS Academy, but I would strongly suggest it. Nowhere else will you get genuine people who actually care if you succeed. I passed my national registry on the first attempt less than a week after the class ended. Although I could have named everyone that was so amazing, it would be a disservice to anyone that I may have forgotten simply because of how outstanding every single person was. They make the 14 days of straight class work and clinicals more than manageable and make sure that you only learn the information that you actually will need to know in the future. ShurMed was amazing. I spoke to several transport services last night trying to get a transport for my dad this morning and was relieved when Melissa answered and listened to my situation. She made me feel I was heard and was able to get us the transport. Big plus they were cheaper than several of the other companies I called. I work at a long term care facility. The transport ambulance parks in front of the building blocking entrance into the facility. They have dedicated, marked parking just for ambulances but still park in front of the facility blocking one way entrance. Employees are late waiting to get in and park because they think "do not park" signs don't apply to them. Please be courteous and allow employees and guests into the facility. Shur-med is the only transport that does this. The others park in the designated area.Benjamin Kauffman

Simply put; you get out, what you put into this course. The instructors are very practical on how to implement class teachings into daily experiences in the EMS field. The Academy has a great administration leading these students and will help with questions you might have; yet you are an adult, so they aren't going to hold your hand like you're in High School. You have an expectation as someone seeking a career in the EMS field, and this academy adequately gets you prepared for that. The beginning may seem daunting when you look at the itinerary (especially if you are in the day course); but once you are a few weeks in, it won't seem so bad. This academy will take a lot of time in order to complete homework and study for exams (for which you are required to make a minimum grade, and final average). If you are not serious about pursing this career field or do it just because your family member told you too or significant other; then you will probably not be successful. This career path is only dealing with the lives of others within your care, so they want you to know what you are studying and talking about (hence why there is a minimum grade you can make). If you are serious and still struggle, they offer office hours most of the time after class where you can ask questions and look over past exams/quizzes. Not everyone is cut for this industry and if you go through this academy, you will know if you are cut out or not.Klint Roefer

Getting my EMT from this school has been a great experience, Laura was incredibly responsive to any questions that I had, and really went above and beyond to help with anything I needed. The class is made for those who are willing to put in the work to be successful in this field. If your not serious about learning the material and taking accountability for your own future this is not the place for you. EMTS Provides the student with all the opportunities to learn the material and get ready for the national registry. It is not an easy course. The goal is to actually learn the material so you can do your job well. The instructors like Jenn, John, Nick, and Roxanne are incredible. They really bring the real world approach and application of the material to the class. The amount of passion that they have for helping students learn how to do things the right way is remarkable. COVID has just about messed up everything, but despite all of it, EMTS adapted to the challenges and made everything work. This is nothing short of impressive. If you are serious about getting your EMT or Paramedic then EMTS is a great opportunity. I have seen so many people making excuses, but that’s all they are is excuses. Small school, but kept clean. Not a lot of students in a class, which is a good thing. Staff is very helpful and professional. Classes are challenging but many teachers are military with hands on experience in their field. All the teachers I've had had been pretty good. It's an accelerated school so you need to be on top of things. It can be difficult with how much work there is, but you do learn a lot. The school has five hour classrooms 4 days a week. Normally, I wouldn't consider that a good thing, but the school is very upfront about how fast the school is, and the pace allows you to get a Bachelor's degree in 2.5 years. I would recommend this school for anyone looking to get a degree relatively quickly. If you have a lot of time or don't want to get a degree quickly, or don't mind waiting a lot longer to get a degree, this school may not be for you. Overall, it's a good school that has teachers with hands on experience, they have a nice, small, clean campus, and they are very professional.Jaime Silva

Small campus, but incredible experience here. I have been to SAC, Northwest Vista, Northeast Lakeview, and this campus. As far as campuses, this one comes in last for me. Possibly better than SAC just because it's in open space. Vending machines were normally empty here, but everything was always clean and easy enough to find. Great professors are here, and a great learning experience. I would recommend this campus to others. I enjoyed my time here, and definitely miss some of the times.Andrew Aramouni

Palo alto college, Nothing special. Campus was vacant, had to do a curbside pick up for daughters textbook. This review was written during covid, so they told us to mask up and wait in the car and they'd bring it out to us. Going to college is such a scam. Unless your going to be a plumber or automotive technician; save your money, save yourself the stress, aggravation and time. Learn a trade or join the service instead.Roger Gonzalez

It's a decent community college for the most part everyone is polite and nice, however the only complaint I have is there are not enough math tutors in the lab. I waited 3 hours so I could get help for four problems I didnt understand. That is ridiclious…. they need more tutors so people aren't waiting for long periods at a time. While the staff, the Dc and other employees can take their vacations without preocupation. Teachers are the only ones who really can not take a worthy vacation, while in other schools teachers take all their summer free, in BCFS, if you want to take  1 week free for vacations, you will pass your vacation with a lot of preocupation, and you won't able to enjoy your trip, because You must leave material prepared for 5 or 6 classes for the whole week, more exams, the keys for all the work and the tests, lists of students, etc., not counting that you must leave the return material ready for when you comeback and nobody will rewards your extra work.   On the another hand, if one teacher are in vacation, they do not use substitutes, they just increase the workload of the teachers that stay, making your work more complicated as if were not enough the load that you already have.They should show more respect for the teachers, because they have a lot of people doing nothing there, at the phone all day, while the teacher sometimes have 7 or 8 classes.Jenny contreras

Melissa Peuris is correct with her review children are being kept inside this facilities against their will. What they do is open random secretive buildings around San Antonio, TX. I worked at one of this facilities temporarily through a temp agency. We weren’t allowed to talk to the children. The minors looked scared and were being sent away to other undisclosed places. Some were temporarily kept in churches and this are undocumented children. I truly feel for this children. But apparently it was for their own protection but I should mention the people in charge. Were cruel and although I reported it back 3 years ago. I doubt anything has been done.Anna Miranda

Overall did not enjoy my time at Northwest Vista College, or interacting with Alamo Colleges in general. I don't recommend taking classes here if you work full time or part time, and want to take online classes. Their website in incorrect or missing information in multiple places (e.g. the Residency Info page has instructions to find if you're in-district or not, but they are not updated). I was charged out-of-district tuition even though I live 4 minutes from campus. I called the Business Office 2-4 times and was placed on 8+ minute holds and no one ever picked up. The professor failed to allow students to take the final exam due to a technical error, and takes 2 days to respond to emails.Crystal Huang

I'm not sure what's going on with ophthalmology department. I went for my eye exam, paid my co pay. Got exam for glasses and contacts. About a week later received a bill for $75 for contact fittings. I had a follow up visit, which I should not been charged a co pay but I had to pay $35 for follow up. I tried to dispute it and I kept being told the insurance had changed. Even the Doctor agreed with me that i should have not been charged for either, it was covered by SuperiorVision. Verified with insurance and it had not changed. They finally admitted that I should have not paid for follow up. Requested that my $35 be refunded to directly. According to them they could not refund because I had a $75 balance. I made a claim with the insurance and received the money back. In the notes for the check it read: (PR-45) & (Co-45)"Charge exceeds fee schedule/maximum allowable or contracted/legislated fee arrangement". UT Health ophthalmology is over charging patient, many of whom are elderly. Taking advantage of people. They need to retrain or train correctly the person's working the in their department. They are overcharging , regardless what the insurance companies rules are. I do not recommend department to anyone or give this department any stars, I had to enter at least one star because it didn't let me post without. This department needs to be looked over and make sure it is following insurance policies and not overcharging customers.Pat Guevara

Very disappointing experience with the UT Health Cardiology Department. Dr. Traktenbroit suggested I have a cardiology stress test and an at home ECG test, called a ZIO test. I spoke with at least six different departments within UT Health & University Health And was unable to get test codes So I could get a cost estimate for the tests through my insurance company, prior to actually having the test performed. I called my insurance company and asked if they could contact the physician and different testing departments. They were also unable to get any type of cost estimate. With anything else in life you know what the cost will be before you pay for it, but in the medical profession you’re supposed to trust them and not know how much your out of pocket cost is going to be until you get a bill in the mail. Ludicrous! Also, there are 3 different types of stress tests. The most expensive one being the one that includes injecting nuclear medicine through an IV. Oh course, this is the test the Dr. ordered. Chest pains or shortness of breath are usually the reason for a stress test. I did not report having either. From what I’ve researched a CT scan of your heart is better at finding blockages than a stress test. I had one performed a few years ago and the cost was much less than having a nuclear stress test done.C W

This review is for the billing department. I do my best to pay my bills in full and when I can’t, I call to make payment arrangements. I don’t know about everyone else, but I have insurance with a high deductible and out of pocket maximum. This billing department boggles the mind. I received a letter from a collections office that I had a bill that I had not made a payment for. The service was in February of this year for a total amount $600. I keep all correspondence from bills that I paid or am paying and not once did I receive a letter stating that I owed this amount. What kind of billing department doesn’t send out bills? This is not the first time they have pulled this shenanigan. I got them to admit in the previous billing conflict that they hadn’t sent out a bill. This is a shady practice of not sending a bill but sending my or our information to a collections agency. I take my credit score very seriously. I don’t want it tainted because of a neglectful department/employee. This department needs a quality audit. I am sure they would find many issues that need to be addressed but haven’t been.Rachele Cuellar

Overall still a great University but I am concerned on their current admission process, qualifications and outreach. The university may be hurting for funds and appears to enroll less than desirable human beings that tarnishes the creed and honor of UIW alumni and successful, hardworking and productive students who have high values and morals. I won't go into great detail due to the graphic disdain and harm to especially those of female identity gender but the safety of all great and innocent students is in question and the output of future students may eventually lead UIW to be a less than desirable educational institution to be associated with…I hope whoever is now in charge is replaced with a leader who knows the difference between their own personal selfish agenda and instead fulfilled by an example of one who Understands integrity and creates those who value society as a whole for the better and harnesses their Strengths and Talents for good and growth of all.asiamoonstar

Love my college! I feel like it is truly a home! Doesn't hurt anything that I am fortunate enough to be a sophomore going to school with my brother and father who are both seniors this year! This college truly cares about you and you life to become a successful graduate! The faculty will always be around to help you achieve a solid GPA! And the grounds are so beautiful with downtown San Antonio being a 5 minute drive away you are at the hub of beautiful city! I am a student going for a master's degree in accounting and am so fortunate as to find many mentors here! I would absolutely recommend this college to be your first choice at better a better education!
