I am so frustrated with this school right now. If I didn't want my desired career courses right now, I would give up. I'm having such a hard time just signing up for classes. First I had a problem with getting registered because of an online school (that I NEVER took classes with) signed me up for student loans (that I didn't approve of), now I THOUGHT it was taken care of! BEFORE going through the process again, I asked financial aid if it was off my credit, they said it was. Once I applied for financial aid AGAIN, applied with the school, AGAIN, and picked out my classes AGAIN, now they are saying "the loans are still there". An amazing community college that cares greatly for their students! The atmosphere is beautiful filling the campus with lush greenery and exotic bird calls. This college provides everything for the student such as a gym, cafeteria, and soon to be college dorms. The financial aid office works tirelessly to get the most for the student. I have been to multiple colleges and universities and Galveston College is by far the best one. I will recommend this college to my closest friends and family!Joshua Bailey

This heartfelt review is difficult for me because I actually attended Alvin junior high and Alvin high school off and on throughout my 12 years. I love this town. I was happy to attend this college for that precise reason. However, there were many many obstacles I went through to get my degree here. Frequently, I had to wait my opportunity cost between a poorly taught class, and a class dedicated towards my profession. This should not be happening. Two things caused this. Professors who do not calculate the time required to perform homework and assignments out of class Is one. The second cause were professors who should not be teaching at all. They are either rude, careless Or have some type of issue within their person. Every semester I had a professor like this even after referencing rate my professor. Eventually because of this college hiring so many professors with personal issues it eventually cost me my accumulative science and math GPA to fall under. Consequently, I would not qualify to enter into university science or math department. Every semester on student loans, I worked 10 hours a day for seven days a week for two years. There should have been no reason why my grades were affected. However, how a professor teaches is one of those things that an individual has absolutely no control over. Because of the poor department management and analysis of teaching from professors by administrative, I will no longer be able to pursue the group degree I intended on pursuing. As a compromise, I had to apply for graduation for a general studies associates to leave this college peacefully, and it not destroy my loan approval or potential to graduate in four years. Best degree plans for this college are governments, English, etc. Stay at another community college for science and math because these departments are seriously on organized and not monitored.Shauna Herrera

Keep Alvin Beautiful greeted at the Alvin City Fall cleanup. Texas Pride and others showed up 2 collect all kinds of trash and recycle. Really impressed with everybody that I got to work with as they had a great attitude and even though most were new to the event they jumped in and made things work well. Really proud of everybody who participated and made this a great event and keeping our city sparkling Update: the EMS and police cadet departments pulled together to do a huge exercise for the training of their students. Using the building abandoned building across the street they staged a mass shooter that the police cadets had to take out and then they pulled in the EMS students to help pick up and treat all the wounded. Was a terrific activity and professionally done. Very fun to participate in as a victim. Update: we had the spring Alvin clean up and had the best participation ever. 151 people brought all kinds of trash, metal recycle, electronics, batteries, paper shredding, and green waste to be recycled. Great place to take classes. My son takes classes here in the summer to transfer to his 4 year university. He has enjoyed all of his professors. I like the school because they have a great enrollment process. They've got a waiting area and they call you up by name and clearly post your name on monitors. I only give 4 stars because of their police department. If you pull through a parking space-ticket. They watch every vehicle and the slightest parking lot infraction can bring a quick ticket. They're using it as a money generator. You've got to read their police handout. A lot of rules are in place that aren't posted and a visitor can quickly find themselves ticketed. We've switched to College of the Mainland and we've been happier.David Carlisle

Update: Post Graduation Changed rating from 5 to a 3. Research professor reviews before taking any classes. I had always done this religiously except for my last class. Huge, huge mistake. Two of 14 classmates dropped the class and several others complained to no avail. She was rated 1 out of 5 on Rate my Professor and that was generous. Reviews seemed consistent as her being labeled as awful. I would describe her as a nutjob. Unfortunately being tenured, her unprofessional conduct goes unchecked and Lonestar absolutely did nothing about the massive complaints. Best solution is to get the word out so no one takes her classes. Again, read reviews. I have found them reliable and they will save you from having a bad professor or having a nightmare like this one. I was planning on continuing my education at Lonestar but the experience I had with this one professor and the lack of action by the college has made me reconsider my plans. Until this class, I was a straight A student and I am absolutely convinced that this professor is triggered by students that do not profess the same ideology she espoused. Call it what it is. Discrimination and bigotry. Beautiful, well maintained campus. Started at 15 as a homeschool dual credit student. Exemplary service from advisors to finance. Had zero problems. Professors were engaging and subject matter experts as good or better than those at top tier universities. Class size is small so you get one on one attention. This place doesn’t answer the phone, and when they do they don’t give you helpful information. Incoming freshman who don’t understand or need some help understanding how everything works, don’t attend here. They are no help and randomly drop you out of classes. When you call nobody answers and they don’t get back to you even when you mark it as urgent. Continuing on my review of this horrible college.. first few weeks of school and they don’t have working wifi or enough books for all of the students. Need to log into D2L while using campus wifi? Forget about it. Need a book for class during these first few weeks? Too bad. They don’t have any, and you will just have to wait until next week. I mean seriously? My son had difficulties in establishing his Texas residency status. We had made three trips to the admissions office but never resolved it. Apparently the fact that my son is a US citizen was overlooked. Thankfully after meeting Ms Flores we were able to resolve the issue in under 30 minutes. I’ve already graduated a couple years ago and wanted to share some of my experiences that just linger in my mind. I once went to the financial aid office, you know, for aid. They shut me down in all ways, and wouldn’t bother to offer any alternate help or information. I remember mentioning I was considering pursuing a career in the veterinary field, to be laughed at and told “that’s not worth it”. Ok. I took art classes to hold on to something enjoyable here, and they were just as disappointing. The professors didn’t care, I didn’t mind that though since I enjoyed the subject anyways. What got me was when I’d go to them for advice, it was always such a beat down to my motivation. I had one who I asked how could I become a tattoo artist, for him to tell me how pointless it is in trying because who would want to teach me to “take their job”. Alright, not the first time I’ve been shot down in any aspirations I dared dream of in this place. I’ve had professors who were mean, tired, optimistic, or even just straight checked out. It’s not completely their fault in the end. I know everything about teaching is hard. I wanted to be an art teacher until I saw the one I had in highschool absolutely torn down from what she had to deal with. Though she always encouraged me to follow through with it, unlike any person in this college. All’s said and done in the end, I got my dinky degree after all. UPDATE: My experience here has gotten worst. Please do not go to this community college. The teachers are unorganized and so hard to reach. The VA advisor Has no clue what he’s doing and after multiple request to change advisor I finally received one. I have to change majors for just one semester to take a class I don’t need, and then switch back to original major before the end of the semester to graduate from this school. Absolutely horrible staff that has no clue what they are doing. If you are contemplating going to this school, DON’T! I transferred here from a community college in San Antonio. My goal is to finish my associates degree in business, I’m having the worse experience here. I have 2 different advisors. One with the VA, who won’t answer any of my calls or emails, and a regular advisor who seems to think all the miscommunication and errors are my fault. The VA advisor signed me up for the wrong degree plan and gave me a list of recommended classes to take, I took one for the first session of this summer and turns out I didn’t need the class for the CORRECT degree plan I should have been under. I have had to make calls every single day to this school to try to get information fixed so money that I am supposed to recieve will come to me. I planned my moving and my family around this while giving myself about a 1.5 month money buffer. They have taken so long that it has almost destroyed my family. I have at this point been begging family for money in order to feed my daughter. I am a gi bill recipient so my expenses are paid for I am just supposed to recieve money back. My teen had an appointment under DR Saba Memon. She practices cookie cutter medicine. I feel like she is following a checklist. She told me what my child is diagnosed with, and she will only start treatment if I jump through hoops, and make more appointments. I left feeling like she does not care at all about my child. I came for help and she refused. She discounts what the parents say and think. She is very dismissive and the other doctors disagreed with her. She did not take what they said into consideration. UT health should do something about her. I asked to speak to her supervisor and she inferred that she has no boss and her word is final. She told me he has ADHD, and I can provide documentation from his PCP and his therapist. I would like to know how to file a formal complaint. This level of care is unacceptable. I was seen at the neurology clinic at the University of Texas Health Science Center when I was considered a candidate for neurosurgery. I had to have a few tests performed before the neuro-surgery to make sure I fit all the criteria and that the brain surgery wouldn't have a catastrophic effect on me. All the neurologists I worked with were excellent, supportive, thorough with the exams and explanations, and very nice to me and my family. Staffs are useless. I do not want to pay a penny to them. They just blame students for every jobs they are mandated to do. They do not work if you do not check. I really enjoyed the MA program and I learned so much. Something that I really appreciated about the school is that we had ALL the resources we need for certification studying–and all of the professors are extremely knowledgeable about their fields and gave plenty of tips and tricks for how to maximize your potential in the field. The biggest reason I'm sticking to four stars is that I had a pretty bad experience with one of my professors and I don't agree with some of the attendance procedures–having no absences excused unless the school cancels classes isn't reflective of an individual student's situation (I know this first-hand), but all-in-all, it's a nine month program, and the amount you learn and experience completely outweighs the poor aspects.Kendall Eley

I can only speak about my experiences here at Pima but I can honestly say it’s been life changing for me. I’ve completed my Registered Dental assistant program and I’m currently half way through my Radiology program and all I can say is that I’ve had nothing but good instructors in both programs. They really push you towards succeeding and the classes are well developed for you to learn. The prices are a little over the top but seeing how it’s a institute it’s expected. I am currently on the MA program, and it has been a pretty good experience. I am able to have time to study and also work and balance everything else with it. The team of this school is very professional and really care about their students, they are always willing to help you if you need help from them. I really like that they even have tutoring to help you if you struggling in a class. The financial aid department is horrible. The chat for financial aid never answered my questions. They always told me to call the number. What's the point of having chat feature if they can't answer questions. Speaking on the phone with the financial aid department was a horrible. I've been given the run around regarding aid. People kept telling me that I qualify all I need to do is enroll in another class to be part time. Then, I was told that again I would get a Pell grant and loans. I didn't receive aid so I contacted them a few weeks later to find out that I don't qualify for aid. They had me enrolling in courses and everything knowing that I potentially didn't qualify. The financial aid department is either incompetent or just doesn't care about the students. When I was told I was approved were they just making that up to just get me off the phone?Amanda Chandler

This is my first semester at Lone Star and it has been nothing but problems. The student staff are very rude and unhelpful. The front desk financial aid has no idea how to do her job. The book store and the campus are not on the same page. I won’t recommend going here if this is your first semester of college. It is extremely hard to get help from staff. I had to go speak to a counselor there and instead of them taking me to the back to discuss my business they came out to the waiting area and blurted out what I needed to know. In my opinion this was very unprofessional. I didn’t want my personal business being discussed in front of everyone. Please find students that are familiar with their job and are helpful. My daughter went there 2015, 2016 & 2017 after graduating from Humble High in 2014. She wasn’t able to get a scholarship for tennis so the plan was to take courses to raise her gpa and transfer her credits to a four-year college. I’ve had a bachelors degree since 1992 so I know the process. The advisor didn’t want me in the office and my daughter was okay with that. I found out after a few semester that she took math three times and flunked it. Her self esteem is shattered and she doesn’t feel confident that she can transfer. They couldn’t even give the paperwork so I could report her on my taxes. I lost thousands in tax rebates, they are the WORST!!!!Bruce Hickerson

I'm currently having one of the worst experiences ever! I was completely unaware of being enrolled in online classes once the pandemic started. I never spoke with anyone or confirmed this was ok. I specifically chose on campus classes due my struggle with specific subjects. I was unaware until an instructor contacted me. I emailed advising and was removed from the class I was still charged and a hold was put on my account. I have never talked to or discussed classes with anyone for the fall and i am also scheduled and charged for those classes as well. Now i'm told i have to file an appeal to try to have the balance and the hold removed and i cant remove the fall classes until the balance is cleared. Every time I speak with anyone i'm forwarded to someone or a dept. that cant help or explain!Christi Chavis

While I'd love to give a better review, I have to be honest. If you are utilizing veteran services, prepare for a ridiculous amount of wait time. There's never anyone online via chat and when you call if someone answers, it becomes a series of transference to different people or "I'll have someone contact you." This poses an issue as a current student attempting to be successful in class. I am finding it impossible to get a return address for a delivery I received containing 2 bottles of your CBD oil and 2 packets of the CBD gummy bears which was delivered to me by Hermes. I initially wanted to cancel the order but was informed that I could not. I did not realise the total price of these items and then my shock at finding out I was calling USA as I am in Scotland UK. I want to thank Troy, Kelsey, and Andrew for an amazing experience! Troy was great and patient with me while I was trying to get my ducks in a row. Kelsey gave the class/refresher for me and did a great job, she made the class super cool and understanding and was able to show proper technique as well as tips and tricks! Andrew supervised Kelsey’s class and also did the refresher for the first aid. It was a fun and funny experience, I was nervous at first but they were all super nice and we’re able to calm my nerves. Katie, OJ, and the team provided a very educational and professional AHA ACLS course. As a retired military leader, I have a great appreciation for "train to standard, not to time". Although this phrase was never mentioned during the course, Katie (who appears to be well-experienced in emergency and pre-hospital care) was able to focus on areas we all needed the attention and less time on areas we were able to show proficiency. I have never been so ashamed of a school before. I have a few friends who go here. Quite a few of the staff and professors are unprofessional and have an attitude with students of which is uncalled for. These adults call themselves professionals when they need to check their attitude and professionalism. Two families I know have taken their kids out because of the poor management and treatment to kids who specifically have done nothing wrong. Specifically the highschool program here. Shameful. Why are you in the people business if you are horrible to people? I suggest finding a better school that treats you with respect and dignity. Parked on the side of the garage, and gave people room to go around me. This cop pulled up and turned on his siren to make me move. I then lost signal connection on a very important call, while I was trying to get directions fast to get to where I am going. I had to rush out of the garage, to get a signal. I ended up blocking a metro, to which I apologize for. After being on hold for 20 minutes, I was able to get the updated directions. The cop had room to go around, but I guess he had to show some authority. They really need to be defunded. There was no one there, just the two of us and plenty of space. Some of the staff there are just terrible, and have a very rude attitude especially the lady who was outside holding her little scanner sign at the front of the registration area. I took the ACLS Skills course here with Stephen as my instructor. First off, the office is in the black glass building in between the “sugar creek 1 & 2” buildings, Roxell EMT is in suite 104. Stephen was an amazing and super helpful instructor. He was okay with me asking questions and answered them plus gave tips on how to approach different types of situations. As a medical student starting clinical rotations this year, I 100% feel more comfortable following the proper steps and referencing the correct algorithms to best help my patient. I’m a local Austin nurse for over the last decade, one of many professions that require among perhaps others, basic life support certification by the American Heart Association, and every two years I go to this facility for it. It’s quick, it’s fast, they’re knowledgeable, and as someone who procrastinates down to the wire of needing to renew my BLS, there is always a class that I can sign up tomorrow (in my experience). If for nothing else, add their contact and website to your notes app. If you need a cert, check these guys out. I no longer need to keep ACLS up to date, so I couldn’t speak to that. But if you take BLS often, then you’ll know these certs can be certain degrees of tedious. I’d say over the years, I’ve never complained about that with these guys and gals.Ken Dait

Very helpful to have a place to go to for CPR renewal vs call individual CPR certified trainers who are hard to contact or don’t respond. My only complaint is was it was a little hard to find when I was following directions from GPS. I missed the exit from 183 then once I got there, there are multiple offices so I had to walk around trying to find building A from where I parked at building E. The course content is excellent and Professor Juddson is awesome. Being an online course, it was quite the surprise to see the level of response from Texas EMS School whenever I had a question or need. They were flexible and worked with me on getting my rotations completed. As long as you stay on track and meet the deadlines that are given you, the course goes by pretty quickly. Don't think for a minute that it's easy though. Be prepared to commit 3-4 hours per chapter and be challenged. I learned that the variables that present themselves with each case is unique and can have more than one solution. Learning to navigate through the physiology and pathophysiology to help the patient is very challenging and rewarding. If you are looking for an online EMT school that allows you to work and maintain a social/family life, this is what you are looking for.Kevin Murphree

I had a fantastic experience with Axon Education. Their program allows the student to complete assignments, quizes and tests on their own terms. The coursework is challenging and fun. The support from the professors is amazing. I was able to work ahead and finish the course sooner than expected. Yes, it's a difficult course if you don't put the effort into it. But they design the exams to be difficult so that the student is fully prepared to take the National Registry of EMT exam. I passed the NREMT on my first try, and it's due to the rigorous nature of the Axon Education course, and thanks to the professors who endured endless questions from me and always helped to ensure I fully understood the concepts. Pope and Crystal at Fort Worth were both awesome. Between the two of them, we got a lot of the “by the books” way of doing things, and the actual way things will play out while on the job. We got plenty of stories and lived scenarios from Pope that covered everything from patient treatment to self care, and Crystal hammered in solid strategies like PENMAN and GLXABCD that really helped with the medical and trauma assessments. Overall, much higher quality instruction and investment from our instructors than I expected for just three days. Would come back to learn from them any time.Alec Rigik

The instructor kept our attention with his quick WIT and HUMOR. Also, his verbal presentation style was well versed and easy to follow. He welcomed questions and discussions about any topic. I renewed my BLS certification at this location today and had a great experience! I used the AHA website to reserve my spot, and it was the only place nearby that had availability on short notice and close to where I live. They sent me plenty of reminders to make sure I remembered my appointment and would have everything I needed for my skills check, and the woman running the check was very helpful, and I was in and out in 10 minutes! I had the most informative acls training at this location. The instructors, Erico and Steven had great attitudes and we’re very knowledgeable. I was renewing my acls and this was honestly the first time during a renewal that I received hands on training involving the lifepak. They gave great feedback throughout the experience. I received my AHA BLS certification at this location today, and had a great experience with the course. My instructor, Jessica Arcemont, was kind, patient, and made sure we learned everything in a timely manner. The place itself was very organized, clean, and followed sanitation practices, as well as social distancing. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for any of the services they provide!Kim
