I went to Chesapeake after my service year in AmeriCorps which served as my gap year after high school. I studied Computer Information Systems: PC & Network Management and also took part in the Honors Program as well. The classes within my field always proved beneficial and relatable to what I do on the job and also paved the way for my certifications. The general education courses served their purpose and prevented me from having to take any other ones when I transferred. If you didn't get immediately accepted into a university out of high school or if you're a returning student, Chesapeake is a great starting location to start your studies anew.Aaron Wilt

I had a good experience here in getting my associates. However, my sister who just started attending here has had multiple incidents of faculty (advisors and front office) being incompetent or unable to answer questions that they should know the answers to. I personally didn't have these experiences because I didn't engage much with faculty but this has severely hampered her experience here. She even had a replacement teacher for one going on maternity leave who would say rude remarks to students, and even when multiple students complained, the department head and the dean of student affairs refused to rectify the situation, aka reprimand the teacher at the very least. I hope WorWic figures some things out for the sake of current and future students because, other than what I mentioned, it is a good environment and most teachers encourage you to work hard and succeed.Leah B

School is ok. Some teachers are good others are bad. You pay other people for you to teach yourself. Do not take A & P here Lab sucks you sit there and you don't even get to dissect anything. I re took the class because they said my lab wasn't good enough from my previous school. Yet this lab you don't do anything and the reason is because the college can't afford it because ppl aren't enrolling. And if you need to get a hold of a professor that you have online classes with good luck it wouldn't happen. I have heard great praise about the nursing program. I realize that my opinion can't stand for the whole school (chemical engineering​ 2017), but having held a student job that allowed me to see a lot of the behind the scenes stuff and was part of a department that was in the midst of a lot of changes, I do think I can offer some insight. First, unless you're a proactive genius who wants to do research their entire life, don't bother coming here. This school doesn't care about industry or the jobs it offers. This school talks a lot, but doesn't follow through very well. For instance, the higher ups tend to be good, but the people below them are horrible. The career center is a joke, the admin people are flakes who pretend to know what they're doing, and the professors are very hit or miss. How this school got "best undergrad teaching" is a mystery to me. The only good majors are comp sci and bio. The rest of the departments, especially mine, are either full of hot air, stupid in their decision making, or just plain lost. This university attracts a lot of insanely bright students to their undergraduate program and the stem majors would suck without them. God knows the STEM majors don't get genuine help from their professors. I had to go an extra year because of the negligence of my department and two of the many professors that left during my time were upset and thought I should have graduated a year earlier. I almost transferred twice. My department, similar to many others, don't have any connections to companies in industry. This school also hates transfer students despite having a lot of them. Don't expect to finish any degree in 4 years if you're transferring in. There's no social life here because the school is filled with pasty nerds. This is the worst school in the state of Maryland (and possibly in the US). Several buildings on campus are run down (the Sondheim building has even had asbestos in it). The quality of the food is poor and it's overpriced. The social life sucks. It's not a well-known school outside of Maryland. And most importantly, classes are insanely difficult (especially for STEM majors). The classes aren't designed to weed out the slackers. They're designed to weed out the people who try their absolute hardest (and sacrifice things such as sleep and a decent social life) but can't keep up with the immense workload thrown at the students and/or approach assignments with the same exact mindset as the professors. Exams are geared less toward understanding important subject material and more toward deciphering what the professors are actually asking. This school is nothing but a weed out school. I know students who are very intellectually gifted yet still struggle with courses only because of the professors. Almost every professor, by the way, couldn't care less about students and (one would think) they take pride in handing out bad grades – maybe because it inflates their ego of "how brilliant they are compared to others". One more note on the courses – for many courses there is one week between the final exam and the last normal exam of the semester. The biggest mistake I've ever made was attending this "school". I can honestly say that attending UMBC feels like a form of imprisonment. I can't overstate how much I truly despise this school. Please don't make the same mistake I did – go to UMD, Towson, or really anywhere but UMBC.Bucky C

There are a lot of great things about UMBC, the career center is great and there are some top-notch professors. There are some problems though. One annoying thing is they nickel and dime you for everything. Parts of the campus are run down looking and they wont go there during the tour. Most of my professors have been good but my girlfriend who is an art major has had more than one professor that just had students watch online videos instead of teaching them animation topics. -Library carpet is worn out -Chairs in library are so gross your arms stick to them -ITE building has chairs with foam falling out -You must pay to play ping pong or any game in the "game room" -The billing dept gives you very little time to pay the bill and is quick to issue an expensive late fee -Social life isn't great on campus Another thing worth noting that has unfortunately been getting worse is UMBC's leadership imposing their political motives on students through 'updates' on current events. Updates are fine but the vocabulary used in some of the 'updates' is disrespectful to some students who don't agree with the same viewpoints as 'UMBC leadership'. I was able to complete my CPR certification so conveniently while still feeling confident in the information I learned. I completed the first half of the certification online, at home. After, I scheduled my appointment for the skills portion. I had no trouble finding a time that was convenient for me and soon after my online portion. When I arrived at my skills appointment I was able to begin right at my appointment time. The building was easy to get in to and I was met by the instructor on a great quality video call when I got into the room. The instructor, Johnathan, walked me through the test every step of the way and gave useful feedback which allowed me to be successful on the test. Finally, the facility was clean and equipped with top of the line equipment. I will always use Code One CPR Training for renewing my certification and for obtaining additional certifications. I had such a great experience completing the Skills Check for my BLS recertification at Code One CPR Training! The entire experience was contactless. I was given access to their impeccably clean office with a mannikin and large video screen where I was able to speak with my instructor virtually. My instructor, Santina, was immensely helpful and personable. She walked me through the Skills Check which was monitored by a computer linked up to the mannikin. The computer provided feedback in real time regarding my compression and BVM technique. My Skills Check took about 30 minutes in total, but Santina made it clear that she was available to answer any questions I had since my session was booked for an hour. This school wasted so much of my time. I was using a veteran's program that ends this year, and I spoke with their admissions, the VA rep, and academic advising and they put me thru the whole process of enrolling, having transcript sent, etc. Then I was told by the VA rep to enroll right away, but I was not allowed to until I spoke with Advising. At that time I was told I was good to go and could enroll on Oct 24th. I called the school to enroll on that day and was told I was too late. The classes I would be enrolling for start the following January. I was given contradictory information at every step, and now with such a time crunch on my hands I have to start at square one talking with a bunch of other schools to see who can fit me in. Meanwhile I've wasted a whole week waiting for this school's "first day to register" and paying to send my transcript. My daughter took a class with Professor Yvonne Chaney. There was poor communication, minimal instruction, and unfair grading. My daughter has been a straight A student her whole life. Taking APs and honors classes. Never below a 4.0 and she currency has a 5.3. She has been doing very good in English, which is why she chose to take this class. This school treats me like trash. A lot of things they have done since going here is sneaky and weird and if it continues I’d have to report them to the real government. This campus plays games, jokes and gossips about students, and acts weird about everything and I mean EVERYTHING I try to do. It drains me to the point that I want to drop out of school indefinitely. The staff and Ms. Ada were not only friendly to me but, also were available to help at every turn if you need them. I attended the 100% online program while I was taking care of my three kids. I did my studying and exams at my convenient time. Transported my wife home from the hospital and damaged my hallway and 3 doors with their stretcher while bringing her into the house. I called management and was told I would be called back within 24 hours with plans to fix the damage. They did not call back. I have called them numerous times for a week and they would not accept or return any calls. I received a call back after making the post but there has been no attempt to resolve the issue even though the drivers acknowledged the incident and management saying they were temps. .Louis

This was a great school because it was way much better than Prince George's Community College. The problems are that the Dance Department is not very organized, have professors that are terrible teachers of teaching the Dance Ensemble and Ballet Dance courses. Plus, they do not offer contemporary, hip hop and tap dance, which is needed. There are also poor administrations in the Dance Department that needs improvement. Plus, some of the students including the teachers try to bullied me on social media, but I do not tolerated because I am too rigid for that. But at least I graduated in 2012 with a 3.80 grade point average and receive my Associate's Degree in Theatre and Dance. Now, I can move forward, move to another state to pursue my dreams including doing my dance careers, operating a better, successful dance company than College of Southern Maryland and other dance companies I had issues with in the past, get married, start a family and live a healthy long life. I would highly recommended students to attend to this college, but not get a degree in Theatre and Dance. If you want to get a degree in Theatre and Dance, go to Towson University because their dance department is much friendlier than College of Southern Maryland Dance Department. CSM is a corrupt academic organization that has an incompetent Bursar's office. We tried to drop a class within the deadline and were unable to due to multiple system errors. After multiple phone calls we were told to call back the next day and that all would be well. We did and were told all was taken care of. One month later we receive a letter saying we are denied our refund with no explanation. Multiple calls and emails to the Bursar's office go nowhere. Very unfortunate for such a small academic institution to build their Bursar's office on dishonesty, lack of integrity and lousy customer service. Be warned that they are unorganized and incompetent and it will require numerous phone calls to achieve absolutely nothing. A totally disgraceful office.Alex E

If you want to get a refund or drop a class due to a reason not listed in the involuntary withdrawal policy, such as a bad teacher (I recommend checking rate your professor before registering for classes) then it won’t happen. You will have to do so within the first week of a semester. The teacher definitely has good influence on whether or not you pass or fail regardless of the material. Math classes should be online since most of the material learned is as such. You cannot apply as an independent student on fasfa If you don’t have a kid, are in the military, married, under 24 or other various reasons. I'm not a student there yet, but my school took us on a tour and I absolutely loved it. It also gave me the first opportunity to play on an actual grand piano, which was really awesome. I've been playing since last August, and I go to HCC now at least twice a week to practice there. And even if the recital rooms are locked, theres up to 6-8 practice rooms to the left of them (all 88 key weighted uprights w pedals). Would highly recommend 10/10. For Bel Air pianists who are looking for a grand to practice on this is a great place. They're open every day and no one will bother you when you're there playing unless you're in the recital room lol. The recitals are usually closed during weekends, so weekdays anytime before 7pm is best, since that's when students start their classes.Adrian Shavuo

Honestly, I enjoyed my time. My biggest grievance was that the Disability Support Services didn't specifically target any particular disability. They offered "support" that was not particularly useful for my mathematical disability. Besides that, I met so many great professors who were inspirations for me. The events available to participate in were fun too. I liked Visiting Rep Stage up until that Joseph Ritsch said something offensive to me. Besides that, I felt that Howard Community College provided me with an opportunity to meet new people, enjoy great food, and I guess expand my horizons. Despite the many personal struggles I faced at this community college, I am glad that some professors were understanding and actually took the time to explain things thoroughly to me so that I would not fail. Overall, HCC is a good place to begin ones journey towards a higher education!Nigel Young

Not your average community college, it feels like it could be a private university if they added some dorms and I love the architecture, its very modern. I love it here all of my professors have been great. Just beware of the math department, my experience with math at this school has been a little rocky, I've only had a couple of good professors out of all the classes that I've taken.James Williams

Took the (non credit) intro motorcycle class here a few years ago. Class was noted as being for novices but instructors were rude and condescending if you were inexperienced. Harped on those returning to riding and talked down to those of us learning the skill for the first time. Didn't matter if we asked a question they felt was juvenile, or struggled with a skill they expected mastery of without practice, their response was always with a tone. Three stars because I am sure the entire institution is not like this, but novice riders wanting to enter the hobby, go elsewhere for the intro course.Andrew Placek

If you have a disability be it learning or physical Towson University has no support nor sympathy or understanding for you. Instead, you’re given corporate lingo about how they are “so sorry” while giving suggestions that are either no help or useless for you. Clarification and appropriate communication is perhaps the biggest problem I have experienced with this university. Especially during the pandemic. Moreover, if you’re a person from a low-income or poverty stricken household just avoid the university because a majority of the amenities the school offers are unaffordable. In addition if you have Foodstamps or Snap it’s not accepted at school stores. It feels as though the university punishes people for being poor and/or disabled to the point where if you’re suffering from mental health problems it’s only going to get worse. Transportation and parking are terrible too. Buses aren’t big enough to support a majority of the students. If you’re disabled and you have trouble walking around and think it’s better for you to drive don’t especially if you’re a resident. You only get one one parking pass and unless you’re commuting to campus and buy a core parking pass you should be fine. But if you’re a resident (especially disabled) then the option to drive and park at the campus garages are not available. Overall, Towson university is not a disability nor low income friendly school. Not once since I’ve been here have I had a moment of peace without fearing that my car would be towed, my disability would worsen, or that I could relax because there is always something going on that made my stay here uncomfortable and my anxiety at maximum level. It’s a good University, and food isn’t really a problem if you aren’t picky, but parking is so terrible. During operating hours, most commuting freshmen are forced to park nearly a 25 minute walk away from their classes. Apart from that, Premium Housing being in West Village is cool and all, cause it’s like a little village really. Restaurants, a dining hall, several housing options, and a commons that is very lively in warm temperatures, but then you think about the terrible walk from west village to your classes. 15 minutes everyday. And in the winter??? Or in rain??? Oh nah. Obviously it’s not going to happen, but i think the best premium for premium housing (apart from your own bathroom) is being located in the center of campus for ease of access to everything. The Glen Towers really nail that. Sucks they are built like high rise prisons.lane karabani

Nobody is friendly or helps stuff is always changing on website or broken links. They charge you fees for everything literally. I was recently informed that I still needed to take a computer literacy class before I can apply for the dental hygiene program. When I went to register to test out I was informed that the format changed & alot of students were failing/complaining. On the website it stated we would be tested on windows 10, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word. I studied and failed the first time. It's not common knowledge, I use a computer on a daily basis for personal/work. I asked if the test is the same the second time you take it, I was told yes. As soon as I was done taking the first test, I wrote down everything I could remember that was on the exam so I knew what to study. They don't have a study guide. I had 6 full pages of topics I studied that were on the first test, the second test included none of what was on the first exam. I honestly feel like they set you up for failure. I KNEW I was going to pass! I studied up until it was time to test. IF you're a computer major you MIGHT pass,otherwise no.ReAnna Andrews

I attended one class at BCCC because AACC did not offer a class that I needed. Everything about BCCC was unorganized and unprofessional. I recently requested that a transcript be sent to another school. First of all it took 3 months for the school to receive the transcript and the transcript was incorrect. It has me failing the class when I received a passing grade and it also showed that I withdrew from 2 classes that I never ever signed up for or attended at the school. My GPA was affected in a negative way which ruined my opportunity to attend the 4 year school that I wanted. I can not get in contact with anyone to have this corrected. I have called several numbers that I have for the school, sent emails and left voice messages .Ebony Matthews

I appreciate Hopkins for allowing me the experience to something beyond my own use to into something that heightened my ethics in more advanced ways. Drove the campus of Johns Hopkins University in an effort to find the world renowned medical school. The campus is quite dispersed and the drive to the Edward D. Miller Research building (Johns Hopkins School of Medicine) was through not the most affluent neighborhood so it was in quite a contrast with the school! Was hoping I’d be more impressed with parts of the campus that I saw.Sonia

I do not know why patients considered this to be one of the best hospitals/clinics in MD. The Doctors assistants are extremely rude! They don’t listen to your statements or look at any of you diagnosis before giving their opinion. If you are “physically disabled” this hospital is not for you! You will have to be given pacific information to this clinic and it will give you your letter of Necessity. (Fill in all the information then the day of I am cancelled- scared/rud physician) To everyone out there…. Go To John Hopkins!Amanda Cook

Very professional and caring staff! Doctors truly look out for their patients well being. Nurses are the nices I’ve ever encountered. I hate hospitals but this crew make it easier each time I have to visit. Thank youcharles muldoon
