20 Best Dental Hygiene Programs In Indianapolis, IN (2022 Updated)

Definitely live on campus if you are looking for the full college experience. I've lived here for 3 years as an undergraduate and the facilities are very nice and the people very helpful. It's easy to find a job through the university and the research opportunities in science blow many other universities out of the water. Scholarships are also abundant if you know where to look and ask around. Professors range from fantastic to poor like at any university. I believe there are over 300 organizations and clubs to get involved in and always neat things like movies playing, dances, carnivals, etc, you just have to know to look for them. The campus is beautiful, especially in the spring and summer when the fountain is going and everyone is lounging outside. IUPUI is what you make of it, and getting involved is the best way to experience it.Amber Goad

I've had a couple of lousy instructors, but for the most part I really enjoy the instructors I've had. I'm learning a lot of important information that will help me as an employee. DCF is amazing! I started this program back in March and have learned so much in the 12 weeks I have been here. The instructors Rich and Jeananne are awesome. You can really tell they want you to succeed and even continue your education. They push you to be your best and always are supportive and positive. I actually landed a dental assisting job before I even graduated, so it all really paid off. I am so happy I attended this program. Everyone has been great. Attending the Dental Careers Foundation of Indianapolis was exactly what I needed for myself and my career. It’s an accelerated 10 week program that teaches you the fundamentals for dental assisting. The staff and faculty members are wonderful and really want you to succeed! I found a job I love a month within graduating. It’s a hand on and class room setting. I have had 4 gum grafting surgeries with Dr. Edwards. The first time I was very nervous and anxious. I chose sedation which greatly reduced my anxiety. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about my experience with all my surgeries. Dr. Edwards was kind and my surgeries were successful. The office staff and the care I received was outstanding. Ivy Tech Community College is Indiana's community college, located on over 25 campuses across the state. Now, Indiana citizens can take their first two years of college locally, saving both tuition costs and residential expense. Ivy Tech's smaller class size and the fact that classes are often taught by practitioners in the subject matter offer a more nurturing experience for students and a greater intimacy with the topics. I earned my first college degree from Ivy Tech and I was fortunate to serve on both the local and state board of trustees for 12 years before joining the staff of the college for 15 years before retiring. I say this to indicate that I've seen both the inner and outer workings of this organization and I respect it greatly. I cannot say anything but good things about the Anderson campus. Everyone I've spoken to has been friendly, considerate, and they ACTUALLY care about you and your academic success. Most classes leave politics out of the curriculum so you are really learning. My teachers are amazing and they are there to help you outside of class as well as in lectures. I did not have to pay for books. I'm saving about 2/3rds of my money getting my degree here rather than a huge campus like IU. There are payment plans, so I didn't have to take out student loans. I'm going to graduate debt free. God helped me chose a great place to get my education!!Kimberly Sanders

Terrible school. This is purely and money making business. Went to 5 campuses for different courses over a few years. They don’t care about students or staff at all. Only had a handful of qualified instructors, the rest didn’t actually have any experience with the information in the courses. I had not been to the dentist since I was 15 ! I was so nervous that my mouth would need to be trashed and replaced . The staff here was super informative * Super kind and understanding . I ended up needing my WISDOM TEETH extracted and OMG they made it so easy and I felt NOTHING ! The Dr. was a very sweet woman who explained everything that she was doing as she was doing it – I think I even had a little time to giggle during the procedure ! Aftercare was amazing ! ANYTHING that I was worried about was seen and I wasn't shamed for not knowing what I was doing , simply explained how important it was not to smoke after , not to drink and to finish my antibiotics – two weeks later and im all healed up for the most part and they gave me a new lease on my teeth ! Oral hygiene is absolutely of the upmost importance and these wonderful people treated me like an important individual not just like another patient to get through – from the receptionist to the assistants everyone is a grade A+ Thank you so much for making this an amazing experience ! I called yesterday and quickly got an appointment scheduled for today at 4pm as a new patient. They were nice, but it took 30 minutes to even get called back after asking how much longer as if they forgot about me. When I sat down it took 20 more minutes until someone came and did x rays , the doctor came in and glanced at my teeth and then told me the assistant would do my cleaning. She came in and used a high pressure water flosser that hurt my teeth and a suction and after 5 minutes she said she was finished. I was confused because in my past experiences at the dentist they usually use fluoride and some type of polisher on my teeth for a cleaning. I had already water flossed at home and brushed my teeth so I felt they didn’t do anything for me. Don’t waste your time going here , I already scheduled for an actual cleaning somewhere else. The 45 minute wait and 5 minute water spray is NOT WORTH IT!!Vontasia Kimbrough

Such a bad first impression. I got X-rays completed in April 2022. During the visit the dentist stated I needed a deep cleaning and would have to submit to my insurance. I waited and waited and never heard back. By June I called and told them that I still haven’t been notified about my cleaning. The lady who schedules appointments stated she would check into it and let me know. Waited until July this time the same lady responded that my X-rays were never sent and she probably didn’t call me back but I would have to wait until insurance gets to them. There was no sorry or anything. I asked how I could get my records and she rudely stated I can have them sent by email. I’m glad this office showed me who they were now before I became an ongoing patient. Bad customer service reflects bad leadership in a business. My first experience with the office of Brad Sammons DDS was so pleasant, professional, thorough, and informative. My previous dentist retired and I was ready for a change. From the moment I stepped into the waiting area I was met with some stellar music that just connected with me. The entire staff was professional and extremely pleasant – always thoughtful and explaining information in terms that were easy to understand and relatable. Through the initial exam, I felt every step was both personal and absolutely thorough. I was even invited to view a microscopic sample of my saliva with an excellent explanation of all the activity displayed. Finally, when meeting with the dentist to review all the information collected from the staff, I was impressed with the open dialog and explanation. Dr Sammons was easy to talk with and thorough in relating the findings. He asked health questions that relate to dental health and explained how and why they are related… things I had not been asked before – now all make sense with the connections. We discussed a dental health plan that works well for me personally. First, I have healthy teeth, take good care of them, and visit the dentist twice a year. I visited this facility. The staff was welcoming and nice. After paperwork, and x-rays (though I had recent x-rays from my previous dentist, and these were less sophisticated than the equipment of my previous dentist), an assistant checked my teeth and started taking notes. All of a sudden they identified several areas where I need 'help.' Now that included procedures, extra payments, and all sorts of bells and whistles. I refused their service and choose another dentist in the area who found no issues with my teeth that Renew Dental insisted the teeth needed urgent care. There are plenty of excellent, trustworthy dentists out there who make their patients' interests their top priority rather than prescribe unnecessary treatments and products simply for profit. The hygienist I had with my two year took the time to show and let them try every tool so that they wouldn’t be afraid. I would give more stars if I could! We have been patients of Renew since they opened in 2016 and recently took our 7 week old daughter here for breastfeeding help – Dr. Miller recognized that she had a lip tie (only dentists can diagnose/correct this and tongue ties) and he corrected it in just a few minutes using their Solea laser! Super cool technology and my wife said she noticed a better latch immediately! All of the staff are super kind as well. HIGHLY recommend!Mark Wikkerink

I have been going to the same dentist my whole life even had the loving opportunity to take my son to her. After she retired I was left with nowhere to go until my aunt recommended Schroeder & Schroeder. I initially went because I have insurance so why not. I figured I'd fish around until I found someone my son was just as comfortable with as before. They won us over on the 1st visit. Nice friendly staff, nice quiet neighborhood. My son told me he likes them and wants to keep going to them because they are fun. They made the whole process with us both quick and understandable as possible. I've recently had a good amount of restorative work done, and despite literally having teeth pulled, it was as pleasant as possible. Dr. Miles and his assistants are professional and quick at their work, while Dr. Geralyn and her assistants were incredibly caring and kind when the anesthetic placement was a bit more than I could handle. I planned to keep this experience to myself and NEVER RETURN AGAIN!! I received an email from the office requesting more information on my experience and decided to keep sharing. NICE BUILDING TERRIBLE SERVICE!! I should have not wasted my time with this place when I made several attempts to get scheduled on their nice & legit looking website and got no response… I called, left a message and got a call back to get scheduled and did. I shared my insurance information as well .. I got several texts after advising to come in early because the hygienist had training. No insurance info on file. My appointment went from 1pm to 12:30 to 12:50. My appointment was rescheduled to 12:50 the day of my appointment.. To arrive before 12:30 and leave your office an hour later, and WAS NOT SEEN is HORRIBLE. I sat there and watched 4 patients go back. After the fourth patient, I waited for one of your staff members to stop eating their lunch, and canceled. She had the star of david or a pentagram tattooed on her chest. I’ve been to Preferred Dental twice now. It was quick and easy to schedule my new patient appointment plus they were able to get me in very soon. I went first for a cleaning and x-rays which all went great. My hygienist did an awesome job on my cleaning. She was careful with the x-rays after I warned her that the equipment typically is super uncomfortable because my mouth is small. She did find a cavity so I scheduled another appointment which I was able to get in for the very next week. I just had my cavity filled this morning which was another awesome experience! I have been going to his location for a few years now… here is how it works, if you are serious about getting a healthy mouth then this is place for you.. your first visit will be an exam and x-ray… you will get a dental plan of everything that needs to be done within a day or two after the first visit.. you will come back every 3 months working on one thing at time.. If you stick with the plan it works.. She will work with you on payment.. you can make payments to the office before it is time for the next procedure… No excuse not to have a healthy mouth. I went to tour the school for potential interest in enrollment and a security guard there was insanely invasive and rude and offputting as if I were walking around a restricted place that wasn't allowed to the public he asked a million questions and even made a demand of how long i needed to be finished before he would assert authority mind you I was only here five minutes and had walked straight to the ladies room hadn't even began to make my way to admissions or reception. However after that embarrassing and demeaning encounter I went to the office and spoke with the ladies there who were very helpful and friendly and apologetic for the rude security officers behavior. Dental Clinic at South Bend Campus is a great place to have a thorough cleaning performed by students under strict supervision. This is a great program and the services provided are superior than any Dentist, I am confident of that statement. Very poor communication process. Almost impossible to speak to a real person. Once you find someone they tell you they cannot help and refer you back to the website which is not very user friendly. No wonder institutions are losing students. The Lockhart Dentistry office is easy to get to, with parking just a few feet away from the front door, making it very accessible for physically challenged and/or the elderly. Very nice waiting room. Holy smoke stacks! If I could give them another 3 stars, then I would. My daughter and hadn't been to the dentist since covid, and I was apprehensive. One hears of those shysters who take advantage, right? NOT. THIS. TEAM!!!!! They were absolutely great! They took the time to explain everything they were seeing in our mouths, all the procedures being performed (x-rays, polishing [my daughter's only 11, so she doesn't really remember the finer details of dental checkups 🤣], and produced comprehensive care plans to address her under-bite and my aged filling. First off the stars of this facility… The staff. From. The moment I walked in the door I was greeted warmly and had 0 wait time even though I arrived quite a while before my appointment time. The staff were all kind and explained each part of the procedure and what they were doing and explaining their findings as we went. 2 days ago I woke up at 3:30 am in excruciating pain in mouth. From both a couple of nerves, that was causing severe pain in my jaw, and causing me to have horrible headaches. That morning I was a walk in at Dr. Z Dentistry almost expecting the worst that it would be a few days before any sign of relief. They saw me right away, formulated a plan that should and would have taken several days worth of work to be done. Scheduled me the following day to get started. And all but finished with polishing that same day. These guys are amazing! They treated me like family in a sense, and made me feel right at home. I'm not the type of person that does well at the dentist office even with simple cleanings. None of that was an issue here though, they made me as comfortable as I have ever been at a dentist. Dr. Held and the staff at North College Dental are fantastic. This dentist office has just been remodeled and updated. I've been seeing Dr. Held for over two years now and leaving my other dentist's office was the best thing I could have done. I always hated going to the dentist because it was more like an oil change than a needed part of healthcare. My appointments are on time and I never feel rushed through when I see Dr. Held. I had a horrible experience with this place. I went there for years. Had a crown pop off 5 times before they got it to stay. When I took my daughter in my insurance had changed due to my employer being acquired. I didn't realize it changed nor did they check before. I took my daughter back in for a filling and they ended up doing way more than I expected and wracked up 1200.00 when I tried to make payment arrangements they refused the amount I could pay and sent me to collections. I was referred to Dr. Phelps by my family dentist after he and my periodontist ran out of options to fix failing crowns (4 upper front teeth). The consultation was clear, follow-up was prompt, and expectations were set. For the next 6 months I spent quite a bit of time with Dr. Phelps and Markita getting implants. They communicated well, kept me at ease, and truly cared about the quality of their work and my long-term satisfaction. Appointment reminders came via email and text. If needed, assistance was just a quick email or phone call away. For the first time in years I want to show off my beautiful smile – a positive life-changing experience! So so happy with my service here! Dr Phelps did some beautiful cosmetic work for me after having no other options to correct an impacted tooth. From start to finish he, as well as, the entire office staff were so kind and created a caring atmosphere. They made retainers for me after having a horrible experience with my orthodontist so I could have good quality and proper fitting retainers. They were extremely flexible and got me in even last minute when I had questions or needed my work checked/corrected while we went through my whole Ortho/cosmetic process. I also had to bring my young children with me once or twice, which of course made me anxious but they all were so kind and understanding that I had to have my children with me. Dr. Phelps is THE BEST dentist/Prosthodontist there is and his staff is also amazing! All of his staff is so professional and friendly. The quality of work I have had done at his office has been EXCEPTIONAL! I had a veneer crack on a front tooth that had been placed at a different office years before and Dr. Phelps was able to match it up perfectly! I also had a permanent crown (also placed at a different office) that kept coming off every six to eight months. Dr. Phelps put it back on several years ago and it has not fallen off since!! If you are looking for a clean, friendly, and caring dental office to go to, look no more! Dr. Phelps and his staff will take great care of you and make you feel at home from the minute you walk in the door! This was my first visit and I have to say that it went very very well considering that I’m scared to the of the dentist! The atmosphere there was very upbeat. Lots of Halloween decorations. Kids playing, happy and upbeat waiting room! This visit was just to evaluate my situation and get financial estimates. There were only three staff members that actually, “had hands on,” interactions with me but they were all kind and gentle! I gave 4 stars only because I’ll reserve judgments until after I have some actual treatments. But I was very happy with my first impressions.Carla Piersom

I couldn’t recommend this place enough from the worst tooth aces to crowns and deep cleanings this place was able to work with me to cover all my needs! I usually hate going to the dentist but West 10th Dental Group always makes me feel super comfortable and I know I’m in great hands! Staff is always super friendly and welcoming and answers any questions I have. Always clean, always on time meaning they don’t let you waiting and pass your appointment time like in other places. Staff is really nice and they really try their best working with children so they cooperate with their treatment. Also an adult is always allowed to go with the child which I like In other places I had to let my children go by them selves, Not good !!ana garcia

I want to say thank you so much for the awesome experience I got from this school!. Before I entered the DA class, I was so nervous to take this class because English is my second language, I was afraid I would not understand, however I really enjoyed the class and was able to pass. We practiced with real instruments and sometimes Dr. Singh came to teach us too. My instructor was awesome, she makes the material easy to understand! And right now I am taking a EFDA class!!! Best dental assisting school EVER! I had looked into others that were more expensive and required more time in the class room. Here, you meet once a week and the overall cost is quite low (and they offer payment plans). Dana was an amazing instructor. She made sure everyone understood the material given and would answer any questions you had. The class size is small which was great because you become quite comfortable with everyone. Let me start off by saying this program flew by so fast! There was so much to learn in which felt like so little of time. With that being said, Dana was an amazing instructor who guided us along the way and made sure we understood something before moving forward. She was very informative, laid-back, had a lot of patience, and answered any and all questions we had. I definitely recommend this course to anyone who is looking for a future career.
