20 Best Dental Assistant Programs In St. Louis, MO (2022 Updated)

Talked to an advisor 3 different times. The first time was a short call had no idea what was going on, okay whatever. Said he would figure things out and scheduled another appointment. Second call his man concern was me attending the webinar and informed me I could only take 2 classes for the first term and a total of 15 credits for the semester. News to me but okay if that's how its gotta be; okay, asked him with less than a month before classes why am I not in any classes yet? He said he would figure it out and get the ball rolling and made another appointment for August 12 to be sure everything was figured out. Third appointment still no classes, and no call. Talked to a different advisor and she told me he would call me back. Finally got from my advisor on the phone 2 hours after appointment where he began with saying I could only take 12 credit hours this semester till I got a gpa for maryville. Towards the end it was now only 9 credit hours for the 1st semester. What! Jack said depending on my gpa this semester I may be able to take 18 next semester. Really? Like I could even remotely believe that after switching 3 times. Bye Maryville! Thanks for leaving me 2 weeks to find a different college to go to! The online master degree in nursing has group work for every single class and almost every week. That doesn't seem so bad until you realizes that there are students all over the country in different time zones working 12 hrs shift. It is difficult to get everyone together on the same day and time, not mentioning the huge impact it has on your grades. So your grade is going to depend on everyone else. That for me destroys the Independence of online school that most working adults are looking for. Not mentioning all the drama that involves group work. The semester costs around $5,500, and I think that is too much money to have your grades jeopardize by inconvenient and excessive group work.Katia Nicholaw

If the admission representative I spoke to today is a reflection of what to expect from Maryville University, I would suggest you look elsewhere. I requested information so I can determine the best path to a graduate degree. I was mocked, scoffed and laughed at by the representative. I tried to explain my purpose, and she continued to talk over me. The worse demeaning attitude I've encountered in ages. Everyone at Forest Park Dental School is wonderful to me. They are punctual with the start time of appointments. Since they are a school, they're always learning new techniques and using up to date technology and pass on their knowledge to me. They always encourage me to take care of my teeth and show me better ways to care for my teeth. I have such a great time going there. They take Mohealthnet Medicaid, so there's no charge. I get X-rays and cleanings. They always do their best from the managers, the teachers, the dentists, and the students. I highly recommend them. They are safe, clean, creative, and careful during the Coronavirus. Because of the Coronavirus they use tools that don't cause splash. They truly care. If you have a problem they can't help you with they refer you to Affinia Dental School. I'm grateful for their handicapped parking in front of the building.Jean Montgomery

If you want to be successful just go somewhere else. The professors do not teach in a way to retain the material, the test and the computer programs used for homework such as the MyOpenLab never matches to what the professors teach in class. Many students attend to gain science and math classes for their premed studies, if this is you, avoid at all means. The science department does not help students, and look for students to repeat course just to make more money. Not sure if it’s a cult within the department or what. And there is almost always no one on campus to help with tutoring. Please avoid! Unhelpful, negligent, or even downright racist staff. Ridiculous required classes that are frankly redundant to high school or useless. Refused to pay me the scholarships and wages they promised me for my work and qualifications for scholarships. Repeatedly have made it very clear they just want my money without providing any services of even considerable quality. I've tried to address this with the school and they have not even tried to communicate back with me for 9 out of my 10 attempts. I'd leave no stars, but that 1 in 10 is trying to help me right now, and even they have admitted to being blocked at every turn to get me what I worked and paid for.ThatGuy Zorv

This is for the billing department: I would suggest not setting up auto pay for a medical bill. If you can send payments in or pay in full but do not give them authorization to debit automatically. I set up a payment plan and needed to change the due date a month before the payment was set to debit from my card. The day finally came to debit and they decided to take 50.00 more than what I set the plan up for. I called and was able to get the 50 refunded but the lady informed me there was a note on my account by a supervisor stating because I changed the date the plan took double and I was informed when I changed the date by a pop up box thru MyChart. That doesn’t make any sense at all. Why would someone go thru with changing the date of something to get double debited. If that was the case I may as well have set the plan up for 100.00. Anywho, today I get a notification from my bank stating another 100.00 dollars debited. Again the plan was only set for 50.00. So what’s the excuse this month??? Since they have instituted 6 sessions Columbia College has proven they are not about the students. By making this move they force students to take student loans or lose part of their Pell grant due to not being enrolled full time. They try telling their students that 6 sessions per year will benefit them. Being a student that is currently enrolled and have been for a few years now I can tell you it is of no good to the student. Not only does it cost us more but instead of having any type of break between already accelerated courses we only have two days off. This is ultimately going to lead to more stressed out students and lower GPA's. There was a time I recommended this College to everyone I came across. Now sadly I make it very clear Columbia College is the worst college you could attend. It is a joke. Rolla's new policy if we don't offer something you need in seat take it online. Not mentioning that not only are online courses significantly more expensive but the work that is required for these is beyond reason. I am talking at minimum double the workload of an in seat class. The teachers are great, administration from the main campus down is terrible. This is no longer a student centered college no matter what their website portrays.Sean Dahlman

I'm currently enrolled at CC. This is the best college I've ever been to. The faculty is understanding and very helpful. They actually care about your education. My advisor was by far the best. She helped me through some very tough decisions and helped me to make the best financial decisions. I visited the enrollment center 3 times to change classes due to my own reasons and all three times they were understanding, helpful, and encouraging. I also went to the enrollment services about my financial status multiple times throughout the year and they were always there to help. They showed me my financial plan exactly including scholarships, loans, and grants. They explained everything to where I could understand and even printed me copies of my plan. BEST COLLEGE containing the VERY BEST PEOPLE! The other reviews that had one star and rude comments, it's because of their stupidity and closed mindedness. This college is truly amazing and makes you feel apart of the community, on or off campus.Rebecca Brewer

I had a terrible experience at this school. I would highly recommend not going to this college. They do not care about how you as the student does. All they care a bout is your money. You will NEVER hear back from any of your online teachers. I tried emailing a teaching with a question 3 times and not once did I hear back from the teacher. If for any reason you need to withdrawal they will not except it. Even if you withdraw a day or 2 after the deadline, they will make you pay every cent, even if you had good reason for the withdrawal. If you want to attend a college that cares about your needs and your success I would highly recommend choosing a different college because the only thing they care about at this college is getting your money. The financial aid process is terrible and I have encountered many road blocks. It took me months just to sort out the paperwork with financial aid. My first semester IN CLASS was good. I enjoyed the class and the teachers were great. I tried to enroll in summer classes and found out I did not have financial aid. It would have been nice to know that this process must be done for each semester. I tried to get financial aid for the fall semester only to encounter another road block. The financial aid office states they need proof of citizenship. I have already provided documents stating I am a naturalized citizen and they have it on file. This is the same document they used to approve me for financial aid my first semester. Suddenly this documentation is not proof enough. Keep in mind I have not been contacted by the school stating this has been an issue. I had to call the school to figure out why I haven't been approved. They gave me the usual run around. Getting anything done at this school is like pulling teeth. If you can go somewhere else I would recommend to do that. Also the financial aid office has some bad attitudes… just want to update that my student loan payments are no longer deferred until after graduation. Im currently considered as unenrolled and my grace period has started which means i am required to make payments on my loans while also trying to re enroll back to this school. At this point i dont even want to go back to collegeStruggle

At the beginning of the year I received a pell grant that totaled my tuition for the entire year and then some. I was then advised that even though I had the money to pay for all of my classes and receive extra afterwards that they would not pay for two of my classes because they are not on my plan for my degree. I am going to a new school in the fall because scc is constantly changing requirements for their degrees and I have 3 classes that I have taken that do not count for anything. So I need those two classes to transfer but they keep emailing me to drop them before it “hinders my financial status”. They don’t pair you with an academic advisor and don’t really help you with choosing classes or advising you of anything beyond your first semester there. I also had a code that I needed for a book for my math class that totaled $60 dollars. I reached out to the financial aid department about this and they said that since the book was through a 3rd party that financial aid would not cover it. All in all this is not a helpful campus. They advertise that they’re a 2 year school but if I stay here it will take at least 3.5 to just get an associates degree. They don’t help with financial aid answers and don’t provide the necessary tools to have a healthy education. All in all I’d rather spend the extra 10 grand and go to a school that is helpful and understands students.Jillian Goetz

I have tried with my daughter to get her Aplus program figured out, and each time she or I go to the admissions desk/department, they seem to not really care and not anxious to help, almost as though they are bothered by her or I asking for help. I would recommend, if you have the option to go to another community college, to be sure to check if the administrative/admissions desk will be willing to help and read reviews about the college you are thinking about choosing. This was my first go around with a child entering college, but for my next 3 we will look for sure at other colleges and other options. If you can get past all the above, my daughter has not had any issues with the professors. So in summary, if you can get past admissions and administrators maybe a good choice. But just be aware you will be figuring things out on your own or plan to be very frustrated and put off due to their processes.The Hawk Seven

The staff at the registrars office needs a lot of work. They have made the process of requesting a transcript a disaster. As a "catholic" educational institute the school should understand the need of transcripts and do their best to accommodate students in there path of continuing education. The staff needs to work on both their customer service skills and conflict resolution practices. The behavior of the staff during phone conversations and email correspondence has been completely inappropriate. Our firm would separate from individuals with their antics as soon as possible. I have been requesting my transcript since July 28 and my new school has still not received it. It my understanding that my transcript was finally sent on August 8 but I have been given no proof of that. UMSL understood my concerns on the situation and offered to accept the transcript via email. I sent an email to SLU at 10:40 asking them to send my transcript to UMSL via email as soon as possible. After hearing no response, I sent two additional emails at 12:30 and 2:00 but still received no response or indication my emails had even been requested. I finally called the school at 2:30 and the assistant registrar argued with for several minutes about how I was insulting and didn't allow them time to respond. However, she was well aware of the situation and knew who I was before I even mentioned my name. Instead of arguing for several minutes with a disrespectful attitude the correct method for resolution would have been apologizing for my experience and trying to accommodate my needs. After I explained it is taking more time to argue then to fix the situation I was told it would be emailed that day. At 3:30 I received a completely inappropriate email in which I responded with my concerns on how the school handled the situation. In my opinion the school is more of hassle than it is worth. You should always put the education of your students or former students first instead of treating someone with utter disrespect. I have asked to sit down with whoever oversees the registrars office. I have several suggestions on how the staff can improve and work with students in a respectful and helpful matter.Chelsea Langeneckert

It's a private university, so it costs more than others in the area, but if you have financial need or have great grades, you can get a LOT of help. The school itself feels very separate from the surrounding area. It's almost as if going into another city when you step off campus. The professors are wonderful, the reputation is good, and honestly the grounds are beautiful. I don't regret my time here and would happily attend again.Chelsea

St.louis is so lucky to have such a prestigious school in the heart of our city. Its so pretty and the campus is is pretty quiet at the moment due to covid but when everyone is on campus everyone you pass smiles and if you ever need help find a building everyone is willing to help point out the direction you need to go. If I could give more stars for how amazing this place was, I would. This was the best experience I have ever had at the dentist. I have severe anxiety about going to the dentist due to a bad experience with an orthodontist. I have avoided the dentist for years and was prepared to continue avoiding them, despite knowing it was terrible for my teeth. And then I found out about sedation dentistry. Most dentists would scoff at the idea of someone needing to be sedated for a simple cleaning and cavity filling appointment, but not Grayem, Brace & Associates. Everyone in this office was incredibly kind and helpful: the reception desk, the hygienists, the doctors, the scheduling lady, and the finance lady. Every one. I feel bad that I don‘t remember all of their names, but seriously not one of them was rude or unkind. I was so nervous at just the consultation that my hands were shaking. Yet, the kindness and thoroughness of the staff helped to put me at ease. During my appointment, when I was consciously sedated, they made sure I was relaxed. Throughout the entire procedure they made sure I was in no pain or discomfort. Not once did anyone show impatience or annoyance. They also had put an eye mask on me so that I could relax even more. I initially thought that would be anxiety-inducing because of not knowing what was going on, but it was actually very helpful due to their incredible bed-side manner. Because of how relaxed I was from the sedation, the appointment went by incredibly fast. My last experience before this one, I had cried the entire time, begged them to numb me more (which they were hesitant to), and laid in a puddle of sweat during the entire one-hour deep cleaning process (which felt like an eternity). My appointment with Grayem, Brace & Associates took three hours because of the cavities and deep cleaning, but those three hours felt like 30 minutes, and at no point was I crying or sweating or begging to be numbed more. They did everything they could to make me comfortable. I can‘t recommend this place enough. I‘m actually not dreading my next dentist appointment. If you have avoided the dentist because of anxiety or fear, I recommend this place 100%. If you don‘t even have anxiety about going to the dentist and just need regular work done, I recommend this place 100%. You won‘t find a more caring and helpful staff than this one. Today, was hands down thee best ever dental experience I’ve ever had. I became a new patient at St. Louis County Dental and I was amazed at the experience and service I received. From entry to exit, everyone was so pleasant and upbeat, but one person in particular stood out. FRENCHIE! Frenchie was thee most AMAZING person to ever touch my teeth. I was referred to your dental group by your wonderful hygienist, Donna! From the moment I walked into the door until I left, the entire staff was friendly, welcoming, and made me feel comfortable. I came in for a dental emergency, and everyone took excellent care of me. The best part was that Dr. Grayem recommended no treatment at all! He recommended that I return to my original dentist in Florida to redo treatment on me that was done less than a year ago. Didn't see a dentist yesterday, but Ellis Dental's amazing Dental Assistant JORDAN came to my rescue. Removing my 7-year old retainer when I got out of bed, I found it broken in two. Yikes! I needed a replacement in a hurry. Cuz I know that my teeth tend to move pretty fast and if I had to wait two weeks… Well that would be bad. Ellis could see me pretty fast, so at 10am I was there. Jordan took a look, and said, Yep, you need to toss this one and get a replacement. While it takes two weeks to make this type (the old hard plastic with wires molded in), I may be able to make you one that's a clear plastic flexible type that is molded to your whole lower arch of teeth. In addition it can help prevent any grinding you might do in your sleep. How long will it take?, I asked. Can you come back at 3:30 today?, she replied. YES! Same day service because a) Ellis had the technology and supplies on hand, and b) Jordan had the skills and desire to make this happen so fast. Love my new dentist office, Ellis Dental. I have always had anxiety when it came to visiting the dentist. My teeth are sensitive, and I've struggled due to medical issues. They were kind and very personable. I felt comfortable the entire time, from the moment walking in, to the actual procedures. The facility is clean and up to date. The staff seems very knowledgeable and is gentle but does a great job. They are not pushy when it came to cosmetic procedures, but definitely helpful in guiding the best needs for each patient. My husband is also a client. We have two children. One has special needs with sensory issues. We will be switching them to Ellis Dental from their pediatric dentist… that is how impressed we are with this dentistry! I recently made an appointment at 100 West Dental after receiving a mailer. From the moment I entered the office, I was greeted and treated with kindness, respect, patience, and positivity. It is clear that the mission of this office is to make the experience of the patient as professional and welcoming as possible. Chipped my tooth over the weekend. Was able to get an appointment for Monday at 2pm. When I walked in at 2 they didn’t know what my emergency appointment was for, I walked out the door at 2:40pm with a fixed tooth! The friendliest staff. Very accommodating. We moved to the area (from a border town in TX 3 hours from San Antonio medical care) for great and local medical care and grandkids. We were short term renting near Webster and drove by the building often. I have endured and suffered from TMJ for years, but believed I had started with a cavity so started calling dental offices to establish ourselves and more immediately get relief. I can actually say that being seen by Dr. Wenzel changed my entire TMJ direction and I am now without pain and without any medication! Dr. Wenzel referred me onward, he did not treat my severe TMJ but I credit him in changing my daily life without TMJ pain and off pain and sleep medication! I have had very good dentists throughout my life but I have never felt as comfortable with any of them! He spoke with me about possible care, not to me…..HUGE difference! My goodness, this is the nicest experience I've ever had at the dentist. I've gone in twice now for a little fixed retainer repair and a general cleaning. This will definitely be our family dentist from now on. Dr. Wenzel is kind, thorough and gentle. He provided a few different options on the fix and I appreciated his low-key approach. From my personal experience in last 5-6 months I think they are the best. Dr. Crew is amazing dentist, she is so understanding and caring. I do not have so much to say as I am fully satisfied with their services. Fees are satisfactory too. My hygienist was Becca, and I really feel good about the way she behave. I did not have to speak too much, she knows what needs to be done. I would highly recommend Healthy Smiles of Saint Louis on Watson road. I have all wonderful things to say about Dr. Crews and the staff at Healthy Smiles! I was referred to Dr. Crews for an emergency visit. The staff was so helpful and so caring in fitting me in the very day I called! The waiting room was quiet and calm which put me quickly at ease. Dr. Crews was fabulous! Knowledgeable, thorough and oh so kind! She and her staff arranged for me to see the specialist I needed …and in only a couple of days! I am ever so grateful to all of them! I had a lot of dental work done today. Two major fillings replaced and a crown. To say I’m anxious about dental work is an understatement. Dr Pernoud was excellent. He and his assistant were both kind and understanding and made me as comfortable as you can be in a dental chair for hours. The work was fantastic and without pain and I was in and out with my fillings replaced and my crown made right in the office. I also have to say at my first appointment as a new patient I have never had such a thorough exam. Everyone in this office is nice and my experience is that Dr Pernoud is a caring and thorough man who does excellent work!Barbara Martin

The staff and service at Chesterfield Valley Dental is phenomenal and very professional. My wait time was less than 2 minutes. I appreciated how nice and attentive the staff was to my needs. My Dentist, Dr. Rahm educated me on my visit and provided excellent feedback on my dental needs. He has excellent customer service. Ms. Lisa, the Hygenist educated me on each step of my cleaning process and assured me that I will be able to appreciate my smile again. I've never had such a good experience at the dentist. Brittany, the hygienist was so sweet and got to know me which I loved. She also explained every tool she used, what she was doing with it, and why she was using it which I thought was really cool. I really liked Dr. Rahm because before even looking at my mouth, he sat and got to know me and asked my concerns. He relieved the sensitivity that has been bothering me for a year, which I really appreciated. His assistant was so sweet, as was the receptionist. One of the best dentists & offices I have been to. So personable, clean and efficient. Took absolute care of me and made me feel right at home! Things to note of why this experience was above all else. I hate needles. Dr Rahm numbed me without me even knowing. Also I miss about every appointment I make. The scheduling is not very streamlined. The wait for an appointment is usually 5 to 6 months out for cleanings. You have the option to be put on a waiting list like being on standby. But this is only good for people who don't have a job where you have to ask for permission to take days off. They will call you and ask you if you can make an appointment the next day, which is almost impossible to do. And, they schedule you for appointments that you were never asked to confirm. This happened to me twice which takes time for me to explain I was never asked if this or that day is okay for me. After trying to explain that I was getting scheduled without contacting me, the office manager, Courtney, said she never heard of this ever happening.Jim H.

I appreciate that they were able to get me in sooner as a new patient by putting me on a waiting list for cancellations. Staff was friendly and professional and timely. They did a great job with my young son and made him feel very comfortable. Dental hygienist was a little heavy handed with the flossing. I floss religiously every night and found it rather painful when she did it, but otherwise a good experience.Emily S

I was very impressed with Dr. Mike’s work on my root canal and crown. He made it go very easy. I had never experienced the equipment that was used to hold my mouth open to do the work. That was very impressive. I was very impressed as well with the equipment used to scan my teeth to make my crown. This is by far the best dental academy in the Tampa Bay Area. Let me just start out by saying a big thank you to my instructors Teresa and Bobbi for teaching me and guiding me on the right path to become the best dental assistant I can be. If you are looking for a fun, caring and educational School, this is where you should be! The School revolves around its students. There is so much passion that goes into the way these teachers teach. The teachers are always willing to help in any area you may be having trouble with. Academy for dental assisting is always there for you through your whole process of becoming an EFDA. The curriculum is developed in the best way possible to help you as a student gain the education and proper training you will need to become an EFDA. The director of the academy Ronda, is wonderful as well. She makes an appoint to drop into the class without disruption to say “hi”, answer any of our questions and make us feel welcomed. I am highly satisfied with academy for dental assisting. If you’re considering going to school to become a DA, honestly look no further because you’re right where you were meant to be!Belinda Yohn

I’ve been a dental assistant for 33 years. I moved to Florida from Ohio and needed to get the Florida EFDA and X-ray certifications. I was so nervous to take the tests but I didn’t need to be. The instructor ( thank you Theresa!! ) and office manager ( Thank you Brooke) were so nice and funny and helpful. Once I entered the classroom Theresa had us relaxed and laughing. She took the time to get to know each of us. The class size was small so all of us girls were able to feel comfortable working with everyone. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. By far this is the best dental school I’ve ever been to and would highly recommend anyone take their classes or certification courses.Kasey Dreaden

This is the best school ever. They care so much about you and try all the possibles ways, so you can get the lesson and what they are trying to teach. My instructors Ms. Kathy and Ms. P. Jai are beyond any expectations about what a good instructor looks like. The care so much about the students and the way they teach is 100% understandable. I first visited Clear Choice in early 2010. I had experienced a traumatic dental accident when I was a child. Unfortunately, due to the subsequent aftermath of that accident, I found myself, as an adult, unexpectedly seeking help from (what I soon learned) was the very capable staff at Clear Choice. They were very thorough in their assessment, answering my every question and concern. NEVER did I feel pressured or uncomfortable during every aspect of my initial and follow-up visits. As a registered nurse, I was very pleased with the attention to cleanliness and infection control I saw exhibited during my visits before, during and after surgery. I have since returned twice a year for cleanings and this office continues to operate with professionalism, kindness and courtesy. I have been a resident of St. Louis for decades. My decision to go Clear Choice was clear once I knew my options. Upon arrival, I was met with a courteous staff whom introduced me to Nurse Jennifer. Nurse Jennifer carefully explained the procedure and prepared me for surgery. The surgery was fairly painless and surprisingly quick. I have been using Premier Dental for several years and a few years ago switched from the CWE office to Fenton. The service is always impressive – first class! Extremely easy to schedule, very clean and sanitary offices and the staff and dentists have always been great.
