I'm in love with this school. It has provided me the tools for success, and overall has helped my confidence as a leader. The school may be small, but has activities that are present throughout the week. This could be writing workshops, movie nights, sport games, musicals, dance parties, etc. The resources available on campus are all next to each other, so traveling from place to place is swift. Just did a tour with my sister and niece. Very impressed with the grounds, and the young lady doing the tour. She knew all kinds of interesting facts about how and when the place was built. Some of the architects details and why the buildings are the way they are. The school maybe nice, I never had the opportunity to explore, however; their paramedic program is a joke. The staff runs each class on different criteria, for instance my instructor (Wesley Carter) stated we don't do pulse checks in CPR after the first check indicating an arrest. However; as a BLS CPR instructor that is false and the AHA teaches pulse check. However; he was my instructor so in order to test out I did as he wanted and when a different instructor tested me they failed me for using the broslow tape and for not checking pulses, said I should have done it by weight based and the broslow tape is a guideline. Since then I have spoken to several national certified paramedics, nurses, and physicians that state this school is a joke and shouldn't be teaching students period and that the broslow tape is there for a reason to assist in dosing a pediatric patient when weight is not obtained. The instructors can't get on the same page and give out different requirements and if you do what one says it's wrong to every other instructor. Also they give you test out scenarios at the end every instructor does 2 which is you standard, set by North Carolina and my instructor is the only one that does 3 scenarios. No uniformity and poor quality instructors. Horrible experience that I will never get my time, my money, and my family gatherings, birth of my child, and events because these people are not on the same page.Kevin Meiser

Get me outt. If I could drop out i would. This college is awful I learn more from quizlet then I have with any teachers. The teachers here are all lazy and only care about their paycheck. I asked for help and never got a response from one teacher and I still haven't :P. What I would give to be able to drop out from this college. I'd probably learn more by asking my dog for help then any teacher here. If your looking to attend DON'T. The classes are overpriced 400 dollars for ONE CLASS. That is awful. I felt so bad I paid my parents back the money because the prices are horrendous and you won't learn anything. 2 stars for providing a college beyond high school in Kinston. One star for pay compared to other community colleges that pay adjunct instructors $35+ per hour. How has LCC contributed to Lenoir County in skills and talent? On Pitt college's website it states that its students have contributed over $114 million dollars to the local community. I walked around the college grounds and it is boring, no energy or excitement. Lastly, LCC should market more to Black students and the Black community because although Kinston is almost 70% Black; it's not reflected in its student body. So distraught by this college. I signed up 2 months ago for a Motorcycle Safety Course. They gave me an email 3 days before the day of the class to take a 3 hour course that needs to be done before the class or 'no refund'. That was the 1st strike; people have kids and work full time. A bit long than 3 days would have been great. Then the day BEFORE the class at 5:15pm I get a phone call telling me they cancelled the class and I can't reschedule for 2+ months. I was told over the phone to come down on Monday to get my refund as I paid with cash. I get to the Workforce Development office to be treated like a crazy person by all the people working then I'm told I have to wait 2-3 weeks for it to be mailed like I'm supposed to just know this already. I would not recommend this college to anyone even as a last resort. Very unprofessional and very unfriendly.Dj Coleman

This college is an absolute joke. First, if you need to talk with someone good luck. They will never return a phone call ever. If you go to their campus they seem too busy to help. Emails are a hit or miss and will take a couple days for a response. Next, if you going for a degree here, make sure they offer all the classes here. They didn't for criminal justice and I had to Pitt CC to finish my degree. Also, their office hours is more of a suggested time for them. On base campus never seems to be open. Went their today at 2:00 (they close at 2:30), and of course no one was there. Take it from someone who has been going here for 2 1/2 years, go somewhere else. I left a BSN program to attend CCHS and it was the best decision I ever made for my nursing career! Compared to the university I previously attended, CCHS classes are small and intimate, we had easy access to our teachers and advisors and we had a TON of hands-on clinical experience. I felt very prepared for the NCLEX as well as my first nursing job after I graduated. I then was able to work as an RN while taking classes online for my BSN after I graduated. Two days ago, I received an acceptance letter into CCHS’s Neurodiagnostic Technology program! The application process was made easy due to great communication, kindness and patience from Robert, the Coordinator of Admissions. I've attended CCHS for almost 2 years now. I like how the staff has worked diligently with student during COVID-19. While everyone is still going through difficult times, they have been able to adapt to regulations and restrictions of healthcare that have been placed during the pandemic. The instructors in HVAC-R are knowledgeable and relatable, however I am disappointed that there are no night classes the second year making it difficult for those who have other responsibilities to work full time and go to school. Also I feel the curriculum schedule makes it to where you teach yourself and the instructors go over what you read instead of the regular cover it in class then do homework. So here's my Wake Tech story. I secured financial aid and then enrolled into Wake Tech as a full-time student. And then the financial aide office attempted to cut my much-needed aid twice, the first time on the Friday before my classes were to begin and then the second time was the following Monday via email when I was literally 4/5 the way through the commute from Fayetteville to Raleigh to attend my first day of classes, causing me to turn around and head back home. And another thing: maybe it's just me — perhaps I missed something?–however it seems that Wake Tech expects new students to simply show up and know what to do? Nothing's explained, nearly none of the stuff that I needed to know to get started was covered during the online orientation that new students are required to complete nor were we given any booklet or the like to explain how stuff works . But let's rewind a bit. After securing financial aid, enrolling and completing online orientation….I remained clueless. So thereafter I spent about a week commuting back and forth between Fayetteville and South campus in an effort to complete registration and get everything else taken care of. I did so under the assumption that I'd get stuff figured out if only I'd drive up there and speak to Wake Tech face to face–but not so . During this process I asked advisors and other staff a variety of questions only to be told conflicting info and advice thereby increasing my confusion. And then I went to the bookstore where I learned that some of the books that I needed were out of stock and that notebooks cost $8. So I left without my books. I did however attempt to attend classes first day of semester, as mentioned above, but then received that email from the financial aid office– had that not happened I would have went to school and maybe things would have turned out differently. I did receive another email from someone else at Wake Tech telling me that the email from financial aid threatening to reduce my aid the 2nd time was a mistake and that I'm covered…but unfortunately I've already missed a week of school so I guess I'm out. Very depressing as Wake Tech is the closest college offering a full curriculum on substance abuse/addiction counseling and that's what I want to do. But, it is what it is .Frank A

You remember when the pandemic started, and everyone had to start learning how to use computers? Now imagine, a bunch of teachers, creating online courses from scratch with no help. ITS A DISASTER. Its like NO ONE set a criteria for how the classes should follow a general structure, so that students aren't spending the first 2 weeks of every new class trying to figure out what is what. Its like no one showed them, "this is the gold standard"… this is what a well put together black board class looks like. The online courses are archaic. (Dr. Frear, I complained about some things and I am sorry. After seeing what else is our there( summer 2022), HOLY MOLY. Your blackboard set up is the least confusing and was by far, the best thing I have seen yet) Instructors use blackboard, not as a classroom but as a file folder system. Instead of using the platform, they made it so that every thing is word documents and or files you have to download when they could have just simply used the actual platform. I should only be downloading PowerPoint slides, worksheets, homework, etc. Not opening a document to read something you could have made a video and "instructed" us or copy and pasted to the platform. Does anyone know the definition of a syllabus there? It should be all encompassing. I shouldn't have to read 5 documents to figure out how I will be graded, what I will be graded on, the rules, the expectations, which books I need to buy. If the department has a syllabus, I'm pretty sure you are supposed to take that document and incorporate it into your own, at the very least create an addendum/appendix. My Grades should clearly have due dates, weighted totals, and all of the grade-able items at the start of the class. There should be no, imagining what my grade is at any given moment.Buttercups

I’ve spent 29 years teaching at Wake Tech and have taken a number of classes here too. I know what it’s like at Wake and I am telling the unvarnished truth about it. I’m retiring soon so it’s not about getting a promotion! Generally speaking the facilities, faculty and quality of education are really very good – in addition the price is still reasonable. Don’t be conned by private educational facilities that promise you a “great job” after graduation and then put you in a low end, minimum wage job where you can’t even afford to pay off your pricey school loans (this happened to a friend of mine). Go to WT and get a better education for a fraction of the cost – you will leave with real skills and THAT’S how you get a job – with knowledge. Plus Wake has a solid reputation with employers. Yes, there are aspects of the school that are unfortunate – I hear complaints from my students, and there are a number of policies that drive the faculty crazy too – much of it is due to the typical bureaucracy that seems inevitable with very large institutions. Is it really better elsewhere? Maybe. Maybe not. Nonetheless, if you go with the sincere desire and motivation to learn, and you treat your teachers and fellow students with respect – you will be supported by all and do well. The ILC really is a remarkable facility and is intended to help struggling students succeed. When it comes to the financial aid office I hear the best approach is to fill out ALL the paperwork that is required COMPLETELY and ON TIME. This college has made a terrible impression. They got me admitted as a transfer student, and I have been preparing for the Fall session online, but to appear in person, and I just found out I missed the registration deadlines because student advising never got back to me. I took the new student orientation and the professor, just skimmed through all the info. There wasn't time for questions, and she cut it short by 30 minutes. It didn't even explain how to register online. I had been in communication and prepared for this session but didn't understand how to register so all the classes I had 'added to my schedule' weren't actually registered, and no one followed up with my questions. I thought I was registered, and even as I try to register now after the fact, it still says I need student advising which no one ever got back to be except for an email to say I already had everything set up. I am torn about this. Now I have to wait another session to get started?! NO! I will take my education somewhere where I can actually get assistance. This is such an emotional drag.Gabrielle Flores

Sadly, I enjoyed being a client. However, the "Manager" made appts for Apr 8th, which I waited 3 weeks for w a particular student. I was called a week prior to be told, sorry they were closing for Spring Break. I could not get an Appt for another 3 weeks now. I called the VP in GA, the Receptionist there, hears but does not LISTEN, when corrected, also easily Offended. Clearly an unprofessional pattern. So, I was upset w "Manager", no cursing but bc child in adult body, he said I can no longer return as a client. THIS IS HOW YOU WILL BE TREATED HERE. Then, the President or Principal (title?) at Raleigh, NC takes my complaint, says VP is there n will discuss the matter. Apologizes, as he made the decision w Spring Break but was unaware there were client appointments for the 8th, if he knew, he would not have made the decision to close. So, this clearly shows the "Manager" omitted the information of client Appts to his Supervisor for his own benefit and then likely also lied about me. This is like a child daycare at best it seems as the Adults are clearly missing and ZERO real Leadership with ability to Discipline the one who acts like he needs diapers in a "Manager" role, and instead fed him a pacifier vs a spanking. 🤔🙄Jane Annon

I attended The Medical Arts School in 2013 for the incredible Massage Therapy program. I was able to go to school during the day and continue to work at night. There is also a night program that allows you to work during the day and take classes at night. Both options have amazing teachers and students. This program allows you to learn all of the information you need in order to pass the MBLEx exam and become the best massage therapist you can be. The teachers are great and give you any one on one time that you may need. If you have a question, they will gladly answer it. They also take the time to demonstrate any movement or work any muscle that you learn about. Where else can you get two massages a day for nine months?! What a wonderful way to learn the information and get regular bodywork. I give The Medical Arts School five stars because it allowed me to become an amazing, very successful massage and bodywork therapist! A+Jennifer Rozycki

After having graduated at this I was surprised to realize how much more I learned here than any of the others schools in the area. The attention to trigger point therapy and sports massage has set me apart from the rest. Having worked first in a spa and now in a more medical setting I can honestly say you get what you put into this program. Most of the staff is extremely knowledgeable and are true artists in their work. They love to help students who show drive although they are sometimes a bit too lenient in my opinion. Just finished me CNA 1 class at CareOne and I am so happy I did. CareOne staff are friendly, organized, and very caring. They will help you get through any course you take but it's up to you to put in the work. I did the weekend class, which included 12 hours on Saturday and Sunday. The curriculum is set up to be easily digested even though it’s an accelerated program. The admins are helpful and polite. I was only there for 1 semester because I started at a rough time and could not really afford the monthly tuition payments that my financial aid did not cover. I will forewarn, this school is costly, however you get what you pay for. Large classrooms not overloaded with students, flexible scheduling, compassionate staff. Seriously, I left there almost 2 years ago, after ONE semester, came back for my transcripts and admissions greeted me by name. This is the type of school you go to when the BIG WIG Universities are not for you. Yes your going to pay the money, but you get the assurance of learning in peace. They walked me through the process of transferring from Shaw University, they helped me achieve academic excellence, they consoled me when I went through a rough time mid semester. They are the worst! I have been trying to get a hold of someone to get my transcripts for weeks now and have been unsuccessful. Someone finally emailed me back, but I have called three separate times and left voicemails, with them to go unreturned. The email addresses I have on file no longer work and it's impossible to get any help without having to jump through hoops. **edit** I was finally able to get through to someone and have them mail/email my transcripts to the correct location. Mind you, this did take a lot of going in circles, but at least I received the information I was looking for. The process could have been simplified if I hadn't been directed to talk to so many people in the beginning, all of which could not help me. This is an accredidated school that presents miscellaneous issues when it subcombs with student loans. This particular high upscale business institution is basically designed for military individuals or middle upper class students. However, if you are at a lower socioeconomic status, you may want to think CRITICALLY before signing a contact with South University and it's affiliates. I went to Sampson community college for the RETA ammonia refrigeration operator 1 course and was amazed at the information that I was taught during the class! The instructor Francis Leerkes was great at teaching and making sure that all of the students in my class understood the safe work practices and shared tons of knowledge with each of us. It was pretty amazing to describe the system that I have at my workplace and then Mr. Leerkes would draw it up on the board and explain each detail of each piece of equipment so that I had a true understanding of the system that I was working with. And then he would draw up the other student system from the plant that they worked at and explained how it all worked which also gave me knowledge of how other plants operate. I would highly recommend that anyone interested in Ammonia refrigeration to not hold back but to get enrolled today so that you can get the knowledge that this instructor has in the field of Ammonia refrigeration!Jarod Kimberlin

I do not recommend Sampson Community College! I am currently taking a paramedic refresher course through them and keep getting enrolled in other classes. I’ve also had to call and tell them several times I’m not supposed to be signed up for these extra classes. Every time I call, I’m transferred to different people because the person I’m talking to says they aren’t the right one who knows what to do. And when I signed up for the class originally, it was confusing and I called and asked for help. The woman I talked to then said I had signed up for other classes but she would take me out of them, but obviously never did!Christy VanDeraa

This an excellent school with lovely stuff. From the first time I met the Dean, to the stuff who works in the book store, so helpful and friendly. I am speaking directly about the Radiologic Technology program at VGCC. As a former student of the radiography program, I can say that it is a complete and total joke. The dean of health sciences is the most rude and inconsiderate person I have ever met. She is horrible with student relations and honestly the WORST instructor I have ever had. She loves to read directly off of PowerPoints and make students feel stupid for asking questions. I have seen her make students cry on two separate occasions. The clinical coordinator favors students and is incredibly inconsistent with policies and information. I HIGHLY suggest you look into another community college If you are interested in Radiography!! Almost every student I have spoken too agree with how terrible the program actually is. The main instructor is great, he is informative, understanding, and kind. Went through Summer session. It seems as though the professors do not have lectures virtually or take out time to interact with students other than emails. Basically you have to figure out everything yourself. I took two classes that consisted of each teacher uploading a bunch of work and power points for you to figure it out. No one actually teaches anymore.. If you need help, ask other students. Very disappointed how the pandemic has made professors so lazy.. They have degree programs, continuing education programs and small business consulting as well as training. I don’t recommend JCC specially the Cosmetology department! Director of cosmetology Jennifer Wells, is not build for any type of supervisory position. She is unable to handle constructive criticism, walks out of meetings when questioned by students (while students are speaking to her). Very unprofessional. She bends the rules for her favorite students (which happen to be Caucasian by the way). She does not enforce the policies across the board equally for all students. She’s quick to micro manage colored students hours to drop you from the program, but if you’re Caucasian you’re in luck. One particular student barely attended and would always have “medical issues” yet she was allowed to move to every semester with no problems nor repercussions without repeating. The student would always brag “I’m not gonna get dropped” even before staff and Jennifer would have their “meeting” regarding her. Others, get dropped, and have to walk on eggshells. Don’t complain to the dean nor president because it will get swept under the rug. This issue of non equality has caused many students to give up, has affected many of our self esteem, has made us feel unintelligent and the list goes on. Instructors are AMAZING. If it weren’t for them I would have given up, as well as other students. It’s not their fault the department is a scam. They do their job to the best of their ability and honestly they deserve better. It is a revolving door for staff, they’re often resigning. Overall I loved every single one of them, regardless they are passionate about their careers. Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Avery, Mrs. Evans made a huge impact in my life and I will forever be grateful for them.Millie Castillo

I do not recommend, go somewhere that will do everything in its power to help you. Especially if you are not used to doing things on your own, because they will screw you over. Financial aid has some wonderful people there and the teachers well some are good, some are there for what reason—I don’t know. I had an English teacher where we would often have to correct her grammar and another who only cared for her title and talked down on you. Overall I have only had 3 Great Teachers and they made a world of difference. Oh and also I barely passed a class due to the fact we did not have a teacher we had subs in and out and didn’t know where to start and didn’t know what to grade. No refund was given on that class. I took summer classes and I didn’t get the credits even though I spoke to someone and they told me my classes was taken care of… there argument was I didn’t pay. I was willing to pay but they only gave me a day to come up with over $1,000 after I had just recently paid my fall semester for over $1,000. I don’t have that kind of money and it was covid and they just did not care. I tried to cancel my classes my I let them persuade me to keep them this fall and ended up paying more out of pocket and still having to withdrawal from my classes. And I did not get a refund. I believe you should definitely get a 75% refund if you withdraw before the grade penalty census date and a 100% refund by the 10% census date in all honesty, but who am I. It’s not like this comment is going to reach anyone and I get taken serious of. BY THE WAY, I swear I was told my classes were paid for during the summer! I was penalized for a mistake that occurred in the office.Alex Williams

Jcc has the friendliest, and most helpful staff I have ever experienced at a community college! Everyone goes out of their way to make sure you signup for the appropriate classes and answer any and all questions you may have so there's no confusion and you are fully prepared to excel and prepare for a four year college once classes start and you are ready to transfer to your four year college! The admissions process is very fast , easy , and you are informed of all information rather it apply to you or not , so that there's no unexpected surprises when each semester starts ! They treat everyone like a valuable asset and individual, rather than a paycheck or a number! If you don't succeed, it's your own fault because they give you a very solid foundation and provide assistance to all current, future, and alumni students for years to come ! I don't have to play phone tag or go on a manhunt to get in contact with someone or get a call back ! Highly recommend this college to anyone that has an interest in a friendly, affordable, and very organized and professional college experience!Brian Tant

Kudos to Melissa Evans from the Small Business Center at Wilson Community College for providing me with the skills to create a web presence for Indigo Fibershed. It’s a dream come true! I have to pinch myself because my art studio is now on Google Maps. Who would have imagined that the needle arts and fiber dyeing skills that I learned within a two-block radius in East Wilson would one day be a dot in a global digital world. The Blues Trail along Hwy 301 was not only about music but also included traditional needle and fiber arts created by people of color. It’s a hard lesson to learn “that you don’t know what love is until you know the meaning of the Blues.” However, no matter how our circumstances appear, and no matter how we feel — hope, restoration, healing and joy are possible through Divine Mercy. Wilson Community College offers free classes through the Wilson Small Business Center (SBC). The classes are a great way to jump start your small business if you are a budding entrepreneur with a great idea or even a small seasoned business owner. The classes are offered on Tuesdays and Thursday in the evening free of charge. There is a wide range of classes from "How to Write a Business Plan for Your Small Business" to "Making Your Small Business Magical" to "Social Media in Business." Small Business Center Director, Melissa Evans is always available for questions and guidance. She is wonderful. You can schedule counselling with her too. The Small Business Center is a great resource for the community and I repeat, all classes are free of charge. The SBC website is user friendly and easy to navigate. Pretty disappointed in the lack of communication and care in students continued education. I was willing to drive over an hour to attend their LPN to RN Transitions program, but received zero communication when I applied and sent required documents. After reaching out, 4 weeks later I finally speak to someone and the excuse was that it was fall registration and they had been swamped. Ok, no big deal. I drive the distance to speak to someone in admissions and get the answers I need only to end up needing to speak with the Nursing Director who is absolutely unreachable by phone or email. I've been trying to reach Becky Strickland, LONG before I even applied, with zero response. Gladly taking my continued education elsewhere. A school that has little interest in getting you in will have little interest in seeing you and helping you succeed.Megan Zofnas

First, I tried to transfer from a community college in Maryland to here, and they would not accept half my credits, despite the courses having the exact same course numbers as the ones offered at MCC, seems like a money grab to me. Secondly, they have limited staff which makes is extremely hard to get in touch with anyone. One person working financial aid. You have to wait 4 days just to get a phone call or email back. Their website needs to be updated, having outdated email addresses. I decided to go to Stanly instead, where they are much more helpful. You are able to get a response quickly, and can do a lot more things yourself through self service, without having to depend on the staff. They also accepted all my credits that MCC refused to accept, with the added bonus of a much nicer, newer and larger campus.Tabitha Crowe
