20 Best Acting Programs In Salt Lake City, UT (2022 Updated)

The Pioneer theater is a nice spot to see a live show. The theater itself is on the small side so you'd be hard pressed to find a bad seat. The theater is in the middle of the U of U campus so parking can be unpleasant as there isn't a dedicate lot for the theater. There were refreshments available in the lobby during intermission, but the lobby is pretty cramped with only a few chairs. The prices for the show we attended were pretty high for the quality of the venue and production which were average to slightly below average. I'd recommend this theater, but you can probably find better options if you look around. There are better quality theaters in and around Salt Lake for a lower price.Dustin Klein

We're new to the area, so this was our first time ar Pioneer Theater and we were excited and glad to experience yet another great theater option in the Salt Lake Valley. The facility was excellent with great sound, lighting, and seating, and the production was outstanding! I really enjoy going to the place here, you sit close it's not that crowded and the plays are usually very good with great performers. I actually prefer it over the eccles Center which is way too large. In fact I think the best shows I've seen have been at the Pioneer theater better than anything I've seen it Eccles it's a better stage and a better set upscott crandall

My children have attended Rowland Hall since they were 3 years old. Today one is in 6th grade and the other in 9th grade. We have all enjoyed being part of the Rowland Hall community. The teachers know each student personally and encourage students to be their absolute best selves, not only academically but personally. There are many things I appreciate about Rowland Hall, including the academics, community, staff, teachers, volunteer program, outside learning experiences, class trips, and the list goes on and on, but the number one thing I love about Rowland Hall is that my daughters love school. This is an architectural, acoustic, and cultural treasure of Utah. The building is stunning inside. The grand sweeping staircases covered in gold leaf angle their way up to the upper tiers and are only matched in their majestic presence by the 40 foot blown glass statue in the lobby. The acoustic design of the grand hall is near perfection. The sound is warm and encompassing no matter where you are seated. There really isn't a bad seat in the house. DO NOT see a movie/symphony here and get the top floor. They have about 30 seats where the speakers block over 50% of the screen. It’s despicable that they sell those tickets. There were empty seats everywhere so it’s not like it even sold out. Wasted so much money because they are greedy and won’t block off a few seats. The Capitol Theatre is one of the most amazing buildings in Salt Lake City. Even just stopping in to admire the architecture is worth it. Seeing the Nutcracker in this theatre though is really something to behold! The Ballet West Nutcracker is the longest running nutcracker in the Nation, and they recently changed the costumes and added some new sets and set decorations that truly bring you into the story. Every transitioning scene has a set so that you see guests arrive to front door of the home as the story starts, the foyer of the home as the guests get settled, the evolution of our world shrinking as we fall into the dream that is the Nutcracker. It is truly an amazing place and an amazing performance.Nic DeSeelhorst

Such an iconic historical architectural element of Utah. From the ornate columns to the engineered acoustical space. The lobby has been updated, but the theatre holds true to it's time. The orchestra pit throws the notes evenly. The sound is pure. Lovely space, sights, entertainment and sounds. There is a concession area with very reasonable prices (take note usana). The line moves quickly. However the seating isn't the most comfortable. I think southwest airlines modeled their layout from Capitol. There are usually intermissions for the much needed stretch. The Capitol theater is an amazing place to watch a live performance! The lower level was renovated in 2019 so the seats are comfortable and roomy. The top level has not been renovated and is a bit more crowded. For now they require all patrons to wear a mask at all times during performances and the ushers do walk around and check. I appreciated the extra precautions I’ve seen ballet west perform here on three different occasions. I already have plans to see their next performance in February.Jason Lutz

Loved our experience here at Eccles for two events- the Frozen musical and Hasan Minhaj's tour. For the Frozen musical, we brought our 7 yo and 4 yo kids and they both sat on seat cushions that were provided by Eccles. You get them in the basement…we had no idea and were lucky to come across them because they ran out shortly after, so make sure to show up earlier to get some for your kids. They started on time and it was so enjoyable and we all were able to see the show without having anyone obstructing our view. The snacks are kinda pricey but alright, not a great selection. For Hasan Minhaj's performance, he required vaccination or negative covid tests and we needed to put our phones in a locked pouch at entry. It was a first experience to lock our phones but it worked out just fine 👍 Really loved our experience and Hasan is hilarious. Absolutely loved this theater and can't wait to go back!Christina Beebe

Have attended two shows in this theatrez both phenomenal productions. The first was a rock concert, G3 with Joe Satriani, John Petrucci and Phil Collen, excellent sound and lighting, such a fun show. The second was Broadway Across America's Hamilton, phenomenal show, such a talented cast, the house band/orchestra was pitch and both perfect. Finding our seats was easy and while most of the staff are volunteers, they are friendly and helpful. The facility is stunning, the multiple balconies are a wonderful to behold. While the stage is not huge, it they really utilize the performance space very well, and the tech crew are experts. Not a single moment of feedback, or dropped line. The lighting and sound design for Hamilton were superb. Certainly not a cheap venue, but worth every penny for unforgettable experiences, highly recommended you try it when you can.Wolfman Dan

Date night took us downtown for a great dinner within easy walking distance of Eccles Theater. Chris Botti was such a great treat, but he had 5 (surprise) additional talented musical artists with him that elevated the night. We had great seats Row N in the Orchestra with no-one in front or next to us! The atmosphere by the end of the show had people on their feet moving to the music, singing along, and everybody had big smiles on their faces. Great temp inside the auditorium, comfortable seats, and of course a sound system that only enhanced the experience. Look forward to seeing him again in the future.Betsy Shelton

What a great night we had; the performance was well put together; there was no dull moment, the show was hilarious and gave you that Christmas feel at the same time , food was just right in price and quality. THE SERVICE, we had the most polite and attentive young man helping us with our food drinks and deserts. The theater is small or crowded depending on your point of view; you will be sitting literally shoulder to shoulder with the table next to you. Makes me sad to leave a poor review. Usually this place is great with great shows and sets. The last few shows aren't funny at all and are quite cheesy. There used to be more interaction with the audience as well. Not sure if there is a new director or script writer or what changes have been made but the shows have been a let down lately, especially for how expensive they are. Previous casts were better too. As far as customer service goes that has always been great. Just wish the shows and jokes were better like they used to be. Probably wont be going back anytime soon unfortunately.Amoriese Vicchrilli

I have been coming to this theater to see shows since I was a little girl, and with each show I saw thought the following one was even more amazing than the last! Now I have had the privilege of performing here for the past 10 years, and I can honestly say it’s just as great on the stage as it is in the audience! The staff is so much fun and supportive, the food is always delicious, and the owners treat you like family. I recently performed in Myriad Dance Company’s production of CATALYST at the Alliance Theatre and participated in Alliance Theatre’s grand opening. Both experiences were absolutely fantastic. The cast accommodations are comfortable, the green room and restrooms were clean and beautiful, and the staff was welcoming, communicative, and flexible! I felt safe, and they took all pandemic restrictions seriously. Their facilities have so much to offer! The lobby is spacious, their lighting rig is robust, and the stage can open up into a variable space for transitional performance or audience interaction and mingling. My friends and family said it was one of the best shows they had ever been to, and raved about our venue. The staff and crew were so professional and I can’t wait to do another project at Alliance Theatre in the future!Fiona Nelson

My professional contemporary dance company had a wonderful experience at Alliance Theater. We appreciate that the theater space is large with beautiful wood flooring (and a marley flooring option) and the seating/stage arrangement is flexible. There is also plenty of space for mingling after shows in the attractive lobby, and plenty of space for performers to make themselves at home in the greenroom which features large mirrors and a private restroom. The lighting for our performances was beautifully designed and executed by Merrill Lighting, and Alliance Theater took care of livestreaming the shows for us so that we could reach a broader audience. The staff were kind and thoughtful, and we look forward to working with them again soon!Kendall Fischer

He and his staff were professional and friendly, the space was clean and absolutely beautiful and the event for my clients was a huge hit! We really liked the space for comedy. Each seat has a counter for food and drink but everything is still close together which makes for a good atmosphere while also having a space for your food and beverage. The comedian we saw was wonderful however this is a review of the place. We ordered drinks at the bar before getting seated and the bartender was excellent, fast accurate, polite, what more could you ask for? However our experience once seated wasn't good. When seated we asked the first server who came to the row in front of us if we could order another round of drinks and some food. We were told she wasn't our server but she would send our server over. This happened with three additional servers in the area that we kept trying to flag down. Seems our whole row wasn't assigned to anyone that night so no one in our row got any service. The other knock that brings my review down to 3 stars is the constant smoke machine pumping smoke through the aisle next to us the whole show. When we left we both had headaches and I'm really not sensitive to these types of things. The next morning my mouth and sinuses felt like I'd smoke 4 cigars the night before except instead of delicious wonderful smoke it was gross. So on balance it is a pretty nice spot for comedy with some issues in our experience.Greg Ricks

They've done some great upgrades here with the new seating and lounge area. It's just unfortunate that on a 100 degree day, they can't afford to put the thermostat lower than 76 with at least 100 people packed into a room. Everyone was sweating and unable to get comfortable. Pretty sure they can afford to crank up the AC way more than that with how many great comics come through here. Even the comic made comments about how warm it was in the room. Also, heaven forbid you ever only order water when visiting here (food and drinks have never been good), because the wait staff will treat you like garbage if you do. We tip no matter what we order, but the lady serving our back row went out of her way to not say a word to us and give us dirty looks. It's not our fault the food here is terrible and we don't want to drink alcohol. We already paid 30 bucks per ticket to see a show here, isn't that enough for decent service and AC? They're right about this place, it's a joke.Gillian

Seen Andrew Santino was doing a show here and took to long to get tickets. I ended up calling Wiseguys and talked to a staff member about the standby list. Informed me that you must do it in person. We came downtown without knowing if we were going to be able to see the show but go to the venue about 90 minutes before and got tickets without an issue! The staff in all sections was great! The showroom was nicely laid out, seats about 350. With the smaller rooms about 190. They have open mic nights Tuesday and Wednesday I believe for $5. We ended up sitting in the front row as it is all general seating. Show was great and the ambiance added to the event. Food was reasonably priced and good quality. Waiters and waitresses were very nice and great at coming to you during the show to ask if you wanted more. Great setting Wiseguys! Definitely check it out!Ali Afsharkhah

We moved here from California for my daughters Junior and Senior year specifically so she could attend SPA. From the first phone call when I was checking out the the school to now (part way through her senior year) I have been so grateful for how this school is run and the experience my daughter is having. She has been educated and supported in a phenomenal way. The pandemic has made things challenging but the staff at the school has been incredible with how they made the transitions smooth. The principal and counselor at the school even made a home visit (on the walkway to my home, socially distanced and masked) to see my daughter face to face just to make sure that connection to the school and the staff was clear and that they are there for her. I don’t know any other school that would do that. Her experiences in her classes at SPA has grown her talents beautifully and increased her confidence in doing what she loves. Her teachers have pushed her to grow and encouraged her to reach higher. I have also been really happy with the inclusiveness of the staff and students. Their emphasis on mental health and connections helped my daughter feel safe being true to herself. I wish I had known about this school sooner so she could have attended all 4 years!Kinney Edlinger

Simply put: this school isn't the best. It's unprofessional, and the demographic alienates everyone who isn't the same. People try to make it seem like hetero/straight students are the lowest of the low, and if you argue against it, you're bullying them. Also, there's zero to no help coming from the staff, especially with the counsellor and her assistant. Several students have been lost over the span of two school years alone, and the pressure, bullying, and ignorant staff aren't helping. It's a toxic place to be.Yuma

Great school for performers and REALLY Great teachers! Make sure to be as helpful as possible to your student or make sure to introduce your student to the Principal Lucas Charon, Because the councilor Willow Duncan and registrar Lexi Hall are hardly around to do anything for your student. Hard for my Daughter to even come in contact with them and if contact is made it is with a snarky and Condescending attitude from the registrar lexi. I highly recommend for them to be replaced.Nat A

Having just completed Styles two Zoom classes I am very happy with the attention to detail and the time it is very clear they put into making sure the countless talent have all their questions answered and are satisfied at the end of the class. Some of the information now I have heard 3-4 times which does take up time I need elsewhere, I understand this is to "Drill it in" but often I find the amount of information we are receiving to be an overload so its often lost on me when I am a practical learner. That being said, do I feel Urban and Style are leading the field in talent management? Absolutely. I hope to be in this for the long haul so I can make somewhat of a living out of it and have a great time doing so. Just finished the second zoom Master Class, I enjoyed the change in presenter, just keeps things more interesting. And I liked the walkthrough of the google drive. I just watched Treasure Island and it was amazing!! It was incredible how they used the stage and props. The stage was even surrounded by water and it was definitely used. The acting was so good too. I brought 2 of my teenagers with me and they kept saying how much they loved it and how much fun it was. The theater itself is beautiful and so well kept. The staff is friendly and willing to help. I have nev been to a live theater where they allow snacks and drinks inside. So that was definitely a fun bonus. Awesome performance of "Singing in the Rain" at the Hale Centre Theater. My first time to visit this location and I was bowled over by the fantastic venue, where they, among other amazing stunts and special effects, LITERALLY made it rain during the show – twice! This was our first time coming to the Hale Center Theater. I was absolutely amazed at the quality of acting, the atmosphere of the theater, and the special effects! We came here for Singin' In The Rain, and they literally made it rain on the stage for 10 minutes for the iconic song. If you're considering coming, do it- you will not be disappointed!! Repertory Dance Theater is a professional theater. And when I mean professional their behavior and attention to detail is very professional. I have enjoyed every interaction with all their staff members and volunteers. Their programs are phenomenal. Their out reach programs to schools and elderly are top notch. The dancers are incredibly talented and the choreographers bring so much vision and life to movement, touch and physical narrative. I love going here with family and friends.The last show I saw here was Egress it was amazing and relevant for the time now. The shows are amazing and the diversity is great too. I have never seen a bad show here. Been going here for years. Love the remodels that have been done as well that Leopard carpet looks great. I can't wait for the Premiere of 'Passing Strange'. One of my favorite performances there was 'Form of a Girl Unknown' and many others. Also, a fan of the kids performances at the end of the year where I take my nieces and nephews. Amazing theater located in North Salt Lake. My kids loved watching Pete the Cat and have seen several other fun plays over the years! The actors and actresses are very engaging and the question and answer time after the play is so much fun for the kids. Kids also look forward to the sugar cookies which are fantastic and custom-made for each play. There is plenty of parking located just in front of the theater or in the school next-door. Ticket prices are very reasonable and well worth it. We even got to say hello to the SLAC cat who greeted us when we arrived to the theater.S M

Pleasant theatre in a residential quiet neighborhood.. The set was unique and versatile in the way actors changed the scenery to support the show… The show we saw was extremely well acted by the few actors who switched their roles and ages and major themes of the production… Talented singers dancers and clearly capable of showing their diverse roles the respect the creators deserved.. Doesn't take cash. Not at all wheelchair friendly. I paid for two luxury chairs and was expected to sit in my wheelchair. Staff poorly trained although the manager did correct the seats even though he looked totally unprepared on how to deal with it. Had a total of five staff members walk right pass me as I struggled to go out for a breath of fresh air. The kindness of other guests eventually got me to and from my destination. This theater has gone to the toilet. Absolutely no customer service. They take no cash They make you order everything from little kiosks. We needed some one to take our order and they said no you must use the kiosk. What kind of #$@% is that! Zero care for their customer. I asked for my 65.00 back and the manager gave me a gift card! Haven't been to a theater in a long time, but the remodel of this theater is awesome. Luxury recliners filled every seat in the one I went into and they have a tray table and heat attached. Way improved experience watching something in person. If I could choose though, going back to the old concession stands without having to use a tablet would be nice. Best kept secret in SLC. Shows are always high quality both in production and talent. I love being able to share live theater with my tweens/teens at an affordable price without having to compete for good seats.
