20 Best Acting Programs In Reno, NV (2022 Updated)

(For reference, I am a first-generation college student, have a learning disability, and a physical disability.) TMCC sets students up for success. I have had a very positive experience both as a student and working for the school. I will be finishing a dual-degree sooner than expected. Most of the professors are great, and everyone in the humanities department is amazing. Most of the staff is very professional and able to well-inform students of what classes to take and what services may benefit them. On top of this, the school also offers free tutoring and mental health services. As a first-generation college student, I feel TMCC has helped me at every step of the way to succeed. With only 8 classes left to take, I still have a cumulative GPA of 4.0 despite doing relatively poorly in high school. As long as you put in your best effort, teachers will do everything possible to help you succeed. If you do not put any effort in and expect a handout, then it will be extremely difficult to succeed. If you attend this school make sure to take advantage of any and all resources as well as putting in your own effort… you will not regret it. I recommend TMCC to anyone and everyone.Rove Plant Eater

This is a tremendous school with a caring and compassionate staff and faculty. This school has afforded me so many opportunities that I wouldn't have otherwise received without them. When I got to Reno, I was homeless. I arrived with two suitcases and less than $100 in the bank. I was staying with a friend and making very little money. I found myself in a situation where I worked hard labor job after hard labor job, trapped in a vicious cycle of injury and poverty and no clear view of how to exit my situation. In the month of December 2014, I walked into the offices at TMCC. In less than a year, I have found employment, I'm less than a year from finishing my degree and I am a Dean's list student. I had it in my head that I wanted to succeed and I was fortunate that this school wanted to help me to do exactly that. The teachers were compassionate and patient. The staff was courteous and helpful. I owe a great deal to this school because it has taught me more than academics. It taught me to be a better person.Brandon Canty

Don't listen to the bad reviews, everybody has a different experience and different perceptions. Ive taken at least 20+ classes over 12 years, I love tmcc. It's a good community college in every way. I attended here on and off from 1999-2012. I learned how to teach step aerobics from the greatest fitness instructor imo Verna Lewis. I took many general ed classes as well as a few paralegal courses and a ton of fitness classes as well. The campus is beautiful, many bathrooms with free sanitary napkins if needed, the vending machines are reasonably priced. The classes are very fair priced. It's a wonderful school and a WAY better option then a vocational school. eg: Realtor school online vocational school $600+, Tmcc Realtor program $50-100.Rachela Reno Rocks

After several years of talking about going to see Buttcracker and missing opportunities because tickets and shows sell out fast we finally had the pleasure of joining Bruka Theater for Buttcracker 7: Osmosis – YAY!! For December 2016, Buttcracker 7 performance was a mashup of Wizard of Oz meets hillbillies for lack of better and let the side splitting laughter take over from start to finish lol. Purchasing tickets like the other reviewers shared was easy-peasy but be sure to not hesitate like we have in the past or you will miss out on a unique take on a classic holiday favorite, that will have you laughing hysterically and enjoying every moment of this wonderful theater troupe. Side note: I must share with you that I have gone to traditional Nutcracker ballet performances since I was a little girl and my husband & I continue with the tradition by trying to go every other year while enjoying the Reno Philharmonic – just a little bit of our history with the Nutcracker story. Continuing – we have been interested in changing things up a bit so had an idea of what was in store for us and this spin with hillbillies meets Wizard of Oz was wildly entertaining and kept us in stitches. We are sooo glad we spent the evening with Bruka Theater – it was a HOOT! THE costumes, makeup, set design, choreography and the storyline was everything we hoped it would be and then some. I've been to two shows here. There was a person in the audience at each performance who insisted on verbally inserting herself into the performer's lines in a way that eas incredibly disturbing and disrespectful to the performers and the audience. What's worse, she seems to know the management, and they tolerate her obnoxious behavior (even though I spoke with the proprietor after it happened the first time and she seemed on the surface to understand my upset). After the second time, I won't be going back to a theater that makes it so clear that it's only concerned about a few annoying insiders.Dan Villarreal

There's a neon sign in the shape of the Burning Man logo inside of the window.. Wonder what it means?? I attended a performance of The Dresser there last winter. The performance was excellent, the seating was comfortable couches arranged in a stadium seating arrangement, and the audience was friendly and social. Amazing venue with wonderful volunteers who welcome and help direct you to your seat. The just okay rating comes from the fact that we were asked to check our nalgene water bottles due to the no outside container policy. The fact that they don't allow water on a 104 degree day is ridiculously. We still purchased wine and coffee at the concession stand and bringing our own water wouldn't have stopped that. Plus all that plastic is bad for the earth. However, thanks to the reply below I updated my review to 5 stars. I think a staff member may not have known that empty water bottles were allowed. We were happy to pour out our water and refill inside like the airport. However, we were told we would have to check our water bottles without being given that option.Suzanne L.

I was out exploring Reno's Downtown area. I found myself in front of the Pioneer Theater. It was 34 years ago, a beautiful woman took me to a concert here, to see a band I wasn't familiar with. The Rippingtons! I had to sit down a few minutes and let the memories flood my mind. I haven't been back inside the theater since, but look forward to the upcoming productions. I'm a huge fan of the Rippingtons ever since. I think of the beautiful lady who introduced me to them and the Pioneer Theater, which reminds me of her wonderful spirit and smile, and I wonder what could have been.Bill Leffler

This is my first time attending this venue in a very long time! I attended the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis concert last night. Parking was easy and free, The service from the ushers was excellent! Very friendly staff! I was seated on the the floor section A. There was a slight obstruction, but I could still see all the action on stage. Concert was superb! The only complaint I have is that the A/C REALLY works! 🤣BRRR!Letticia Palmer

My daughter has been dancing at FR dance for over 3 years. She has grown so much in her skill level and character with their support. My son also takes several classes and there are many other boys in his classes. Both of them also participate in FR’s great theater program with original productions that inspire young people to read. In addition to recitals there are also other competitive and performance opportunities for dancers that are committed to growing their talents. The studio has outstanding teachers, a wide variety of class offering, as well as friendly & welcoming student families. My daughter recently participated in the Princess Dance Camp and it was a wonderful experience. She looked forward to going each day and came home with so much joy on her face. The program was very well done, thoughtful, organized and so much fun! We also attend dance class at this studio and this too has been a very enjoyable experience. Her teacher is energetic, kind and creative. The studio is extremely inclusive and promotes dance for all. Everyone is friendly and helpful. There is a lot of happiness inside this dance studio! This is a really great studio. Our little dancer is 3 years old and loves her teacher Miss Yevette. The classes are fun and full of activity to keep a little one entertained. Very fun place. She even got to dance on stage for her very first recital! Our other daughter is 7 and most recently attended the Circus Camp this summer. She had a blast! Circus stuff, aerial silks and parkour tumbling all in one camp. They did a performance at the end of the week and I was amazed at what she learned!Nate Lovelady

We went to see Magique on New Year's Eve. We are not the kind to party or go out so we thought we would try something different and it was amazing! The costumes were my personal favorite but the acts, the dances the surprises were so fun and we were smiling from ear to ear the whole time. My parents were visiting all the way from Romania and they've never seen anything like this show before so they were very impressed. The cast and the staff were all very lovely also. They even offered whoever didn't have plans for New Year's to hang out with them after the show and have some champagne and a little chat. I totally recommend this place and I can't wait to see what other shows they will come up with in the future!Rayanne

The Theatre is the intimate home of a mystical and magical show experience called Magique. Kevin and Lord Caruso are both from Reno but have performed all over the world. With Covid creating so many issues for artists, these two highly talented magicians/illusionists returned to their home town and are inspirational. The show is stylish, clever, fun, sexy and the illusions have to be seen to be believed. I promise you will have so much fun. The show is incredible! I had been seeing the advertisements for this show for months and was looking forward to checking it out. Nearly my last week in Reno, my coworkers got together and bought tickets. It is now a highlight of my time there. Between the costumes, soundtracks, choreography, illusions and overall production, we were thoroughly impressed, I can't even explain it. Don't let the strip mall location deter you. This is truly a show you won't want to pass up. Well worth the ticket price!Jeanette

Speaking from the student perspective, Sage Ridge is a wonderful school. I am in my final year here, and I will be sad to go. I started at this school in 5th grade, and have eagerly returned each year. One thing that stands out especially about Sage Ridge is the phenomenal teachers. In every grade, for every subject, there is incredible knowledge and support from the faculty. The teachers truly know every student individually in order to easily connect with them and help them in any way that they can. It is this network of support that allows all Sage Ridge students to challenge themselves. The teachers make the students want to learn more. Sage Ridge students are inquisitive and curious about the world around them and the faculty earnestly answer their every inquiry. The bond between students and teachers at Sage Ridge is completely unique, and definitely something to take advantage of. A Sage Ridge education goes beyond academics. This school will help all children to pursue any interests they may have. In my years here, I have played multiple sports, acted in many plays, competed in both theater and Latin on State and National levels, debated with a passion, developed a love for community service projects and much, much, more. Sage Ridge will help their students achieve anything they can possibly set their minds to. Outside of the classroom Sage Ridge also offers many unique programs, such as Mini Sessions and Outdoor Education. Mini Sessions is a two week course of fun classes that allow teachers to teach their students anything they'd like. These classes range from cake decorating to conservation trips in Hawaii. Outdoor Ed is yet another incredible opportunity that Sage Ridge offers. Early on in the school year, all teachers and grade levels embark on week long trips. Outdoor Ed is enjoyed by all, and each grade level trip is looked forward to greatly. Outdoor Ed has taken me everywhere, from backpacking in Yosemite to bouldering in Northern California to kayaking in Tamales Bay. All of these amazing programs help to build the wonderful sense of community that all Sage Ridge Scorpions feel. The student body is also very unique here. Every student lives under the governance of our honor code and our five pillars: Respect, Integrity, Community, Courage, and Scholarship. The students aren't cliquey and friendships often span across grade levels because of our small size. The students are all kind and supportive, and incredibly trustworthy. Sage Ridge students take the Honor Code very seriously, and because of that there is a strong sense of trust within the community. Hardly any students lock their lockers, and phones, laptops, and wallets are frequently left unattended. Not once in my 8 years here has anything serious been stolen. Anywhere else, that would not hold true, but Sage Ridge defies normality. I would strongly recommend Sage Ridge to anyone who asked, as it has both shaped me as a person and completely prepared me for my next steps in life. Lots of parking, beautiful outdoor venue, great local quality shows at affordable prices, seats are comfortable but you may want to bring a cushion, local vendors offer food at this venue but you may want to check before you make plans to eat. Food was very good and they take credit cards. Also you can bring your own food and drinks, no glass or no pets allowed. Bring a light blanket, it may get chilly and enjoy the show!Martha Templeton

Came here for a Stephen Marley concert. The venue is kind of small with not much grass area. If you buy tickets, make suture you get an actual seat because the grassy area is steep and really not suitable for chairs. Acoustics were good ans seats were actually wide. I didn't visit the restrooms, but they are onsite.Jeanette

We saw the production Into the Woods. The show was so much fun. Large wide comfortable seats. Beautiful outdoor venue. We would come back here again and again. Looking forward to shows next summer I would suggest getting the seating with VIP parkingTeri Guilford

went here to see the final dress rehearsal for the thanksgiving performance for FREE! all of the staff was so welcoming and the theater is so cozy! cast and crew did amazing and the seats were nice and comfortable. although it is a bit small, it makes up for it with the close stage. you can really see every emotion and expression from the actors. they also sell refreshments and snacks in the lobby. overall, 5/5!Kaylin Xie

Been attending events since 2015 or so. They have made great improvements in audience space and upgraded chairs. Can't brag about them enough. The productions and staff and talent in this community is outstanding. Recommend and take friends and visiting out of town guests. Went to play put on by Ageless Repertory Theater (ART). It was a cast of all seniors and was funny and entertaining. The theater is small so wherever you sit you feel like part of the action. I highly recommend this little theater! Seating is comfortable too!Lori Garcia

One of my favorite places. A community oriented organization soley dedicated to helping children and their families battle childhood cancer. The girls always love stopping by and filling up on the earned beads or checking out the toy closet. My 3rd grader just got her report cards for the first quarter and her teacher rocked, I must say, in pointing out her strengths as well as weaknesses in the most profound manner. She sounded just like me! We were on the same page and so, that brings forth Coral’s reputation to the forefront once again with the new branch in South Reno. Mrs. Harsh’s extensive 12 years of experience with kiddos does pay off well with respect to the way she deals each of them as individuals with respect and dignity. We love her attitude as well as how she tries to inculcate in our kids the much needed concept of being a “‘Global citizen’. So, along with the academics, we are sure that our kids would grow up into kinder, stronger, caring human beings. The world needs them. We absolutely love this school! Suni made the entire application process easy, and was so patient with all of the questions that I had (first time school mom). Our son loves seeing Mrs. Coffee every morning at drop off, his teacher Miss Lyles is nothing short of amazing, and he is always telling us about the most recent contest the kids are having to get a prize form Mr. Dede’s office. He actually likes learning and going to school! 👏🏻🙌🏻 The before & after school options are easy and great programs too, and we really appreciate all of the teachers’ willingness to provide academic enrichment and clubs to support the students academically and with extra curricular activities. Communication is (and always has been) so easy, even with a closed campus and a pandemic! The south location couldn’t be more perfect for what our family needed this year; so close and convenient to both of our offices. We really couldn’t be happier! I registered my oldest child in Kindergarten this year, and the reason We made the decision to drive 20 + minutes back and forward each day,(and ve though we have schools blocks away) was because I had heard great things about their academic level and as parents we want the best for our kids so, I have to say, I don’t regret it. My kid loves it and everyone there is so respectful and professional. I have to add, that if it wasn’t for the fact that they opened the new elementary location, I am not sure if we would had registered him in Coral, I just personally don’t like the Valley road location. My beautiful 14 year old freshman granddaughter was accosted on her way home from school and accused of being "an illegal immigrant who needs to pack her sh– and get out of the country" by a fellow student. This has been reported to the school authorities. It remains to be seen how it will be handled. This lovely lady carries a 3.96 GPA and is a kind, caring and considerate person. Just because she has brown skin and long straight hair, she doesn't (nor does anyone else) deserve this treatment.Lorraine Carter

I'm rating Reed a 1 because of the snack bar. I go to get a snack from the snack bar after a game and I'm charged 3 bucks for $2 skittles. I came terrified to do an improv class (but was obligated to as part of a "team building" exercise), and I left the event wanting to return, ASAP!!! Tim, our facilitator, was very knowledgeable and his passion for improv was obvious. We did a variety of exercises to warm up and try new things, and never at any moment did I or anyone in my group feel judged…in fact, he did such a great job of focusing on everything that was going right! I found that unconditional acceptance tremendously powerful and allowed us to take risks we never would have otherwise. We laughed so much and it was a lot of fun! The debriefs after each exercise really highlighted how the skills we just practiced apply to our field of business and sales…and to life in general! So profound and life affirming! I have to admit, I've caught the improv bug and I can't wait to do more in my hometown!Larissa Popov

Improv Reno is outstanding! It has helped me step out of my comfort zone when it comes to public speaking. I started going in mid-2015 until the end of 2016. Then stop going until yesterday and it has grown in numbers. And they still promote the positivity environment, respect one another, you'll meet strangers and feel welcomed. I believe this place can inspire you to be yourself in normal day situations and help you think on your feet. This place makes me feel like a kid again -making mistakes – not being perfect – and just being yourself and as we grow up to be adults we forget to think like a kid and be creative in our own way. Highly recommend! I'm a professional actor-performer in Las Vegas and I was so excited when I discovered Dean Kreyling's Acting Class two years ago. Dean will help you grow as an artist, whether you're a working actor or beginner, using the Milton Katselas method as taught at the Beverly Hills Playhouse. I've taken acting classes in LA & NY previously and Dean's classes are top-notch. Your tuition (totally reasonable) affords you high-caliber scene study work, an incredibly supportive community of committed actors and an administration group focusing on the practical goals of the craft (headshots, reels, etc…). Dean also makes himself available during the week for scene study sessions and to answer any and all questions related to acting and the acting business. Hands down the best acting studio in Las Vegas! I’ve taken other classes in the area & a lot of those places make you pay for extra training ( character analysis, camera work,etc.) that should honestly already be included. At DKAC you get some much value for your money!!! We pick scenes and perform them every Sunday, and You get to rehearse your scene in the studio space throughout the week. Dean teaches you acting technique, audition prep, camera work, breathing techniques, etc. if there’s anything that you need additionally help with he’s always available. Dean also has a team of people that he connects you with for quality head shots, reel tapes, and vocal training. He helps you with your resume, provides resources for applying to jobs/agencies. Juliet, Monica and all the teachers I have met are all so friendly, kind and a joy to be around. Juliet and Monica, the owner's, answered all of my questions and have made it very easy to reach out and to contact them should I have any other questions. The studio is very and clean and I witnessed them keeping things very sanitized and cleaning up and wipe you down everything that was touched as well as the floors. This is our first week but it will definitely not be our last. Looking forward to many more classes for my 3 children!
