20 Best Acting Programs In Omaha, NE (2022 Updated)

I attended this university for one year before my family moved. It was my first year of college and I had lived in Centennial Hall. At the time, it was the only coed dorm on campus. I met several people here and if it were not for my own crippling introversion, I might have kept up with them over the years. I've long since outgrown those traits and today I look back at NWU as a safe place where I was able to learn and my first experience of the world as a very young adult. The campus was majestic to me, always kept clean and there was a strong sense of camaraderie among the students. I can't say much more than this because I attended NWU for such a short time.Tall Grass

Rat Olympics: In 2002 Rat Race was held at Nebraska Wesleyan University in the United States. Rat pet owners from all over the country attended. Competitions like rat race, weight lifting and long jump were held. Walking into Old Main feels like entering a nicer Hogwarts, minus the transphobia. Everyone has been super nice to us at NWU. Gorgeous buildings and up-to-date classrooms. If I had a college aged kid in Nebraska, I would make sure they toured NWU along with other local strong contenders before they made their decision where to do their studies.Alan Blair

Writing a review for UNMC is an emotional task for me because they have been there for my mom and family through life, sickness, recovery, health, and even death. In all they've been there for they did right, without judgement or bias, and with care, hope, and support. I live in Kansas, but I know this hospital and all the towers better than some streets near my home. I've interacted with many specialty doctors, nurses, techs, housekeeping staff, ER, security team members, and so many others. We've experienced teams in Kidney Transplant, Wound Care, Cardiovascular, Cardiology, Ophthalmology, ENT, Derm, Cancer Center, and the Comfort Care Team. I can tell you that these teams are here because they love what they do. If you're considering UNMC as a new place to care for your needs I would do so without hesitation. When my mom moved they were so helpful in her transition to Kansas. Without them we'd be lost. We will miss each of her teams, their knowledge, and their care. It was so hard to leave.Tam E

Very disappointed in care provided. Nursing seems sorely under staffed. Although they frequently have cell phone in hand. Communication between staff (doctors and nursing staff)is lacking. Communication of providers and patients is insufficient. Facility is dirty dusty and run down. And should we talk about HIPPA….nothing to talk about….it doesn't exist there. Hep locks do not get flushed even after several days….negligent much? Showers/bed baths not offered to patient even after 3 days in-house. Are they trying for some nosocomial infections?S B

Today I went to Nebraska medical center and the eye clinic. The people that are very friendly and nice it's clean has three levels. The doctor I seen seem very knowledgeable and was very concerned with my eye condition it was funny when we first pulled up and parked in the first row there was a broom next to the handicap sign made me laugh remind me of handicap which parking. Someone probably had clean snow off their car with the broom and left it there.Karen Beautiful

My daughter has been planning on going to Northeast for over a year now. We sent in our housing application, fee, and dorm request last year. She received a letter that she got the dorm she wanted! She elected to go to Northeast at this point because she was so happy! She met her 3 roommates for the 4 person dorm room! All is good… wait… nope guess not. We received a call today that they are overbooked on kids and jamming 2 more students into their 4 person dorm room. 6 people in 1 dorm. Where will 2 xtra beds go? How will 6 people use 4 tiny closets? How will 6 girls shower and get ready in 1 tiny bathroom every morning. I called to say—- ummmm- no…. and I was told “it is not our choice”. I’m sorry, we are paying over $10,000 for a dorm room and it’s not our choice? I have never been more disappointed and do not know what to do. Can we even get into another school this late in the year? Did Northeast do this because they know that we are stuck? Literally so upset. Ima tell everyone I know because what they did to us was dirty. Be very careful with the promises your are given when visiting this school.Abby Hansen

I recently completed a summer course at North East and was informed that they do not provide a forum for students to give feed back to professors on the course. I believe that it is note worthy for professors to be evaluated by the subject/students to see if they are performing up to expectation or not. The professor was unprepared in the syllabus as to what was necessary to purchase for books and materials. The syllabus stated 4 materials were needed and we never used two of the items listed. Followed MLA citation in book that was required but docked on grade because professor used different style in his notes (required book referenced Print vs Web). He didn't want this noted. How are we as students to learn from our mistakes if we don't get assignments graded and back before the next assignment due. All assignment built off the previous assignment! This was a good school overall. I went here from 2009 to 2011. It was a small school and they were just building their multicultural department so it was something to be desired but it was good education. If you came to class on time and did you're part of the work to be prepared you made it through. There was true traditional student to teach your advisement here for the students career path. To all the high school freshman posting reviews and rating AMDA 5 stars stop. You do not go there. Do not give it a bigger head than it already has. Attended in 2013-2014 would have been one star if it weren't for some (a few) wonderful teachers. (Stacy Lee, Kathy, Jeff, Tim,and Ray thank you) I am posting this review because they just posted an instagram post about 13 reasons why. They said check this out help is available. Would have been nice if that was ACTUALLY TRUE. However, if you have any sort of mental health problems you are told to grow up! (By teachers AND THE DAMN COUNSELOR) you are told stories of how the show must go on fake it til you make it. If you cannot stop crying you are weak, and theater is just a hobby for you. The teachers name drop and make you feel bad about yourself for not being Jason Derulo.The only person who helped me get help was my acting teacher (god bless him), who sent me to the counselor who told me I was acting like a child and that I need to prioritize. "If this isn't for you you don't have to be here" I told him this is the most depressed I've ever been. No offer to find therapy near me. No weekly meetings. No follow up visit. He suggested I find a new dream. So I did but now I'm 25,000 dollars in debt after 9 of the worst months of my life. Like others have said AMDA is what you make it but if you have any sort of mental health issues don't count on getting any help. PS. The dorms have a large scary roach problem, pretty sure it used to be a mental hospital (how fitting) PPS. I can acknowledge that I learned a good deal in my acting and VPS classes. I joined AMDA NYC back in 2021 Fall. This school has changed my life. Incredible staffing who are all working professionals within the acting world and all are incredibly motivated, fun and inspiring. My time at this school has been nothing but positive thus far and, the school continues to get better and better. I have done my own reading into reviews and the bad reviews have definitely changed. I have seen things change here, I have seen things become progressively better for the students here at AMDA. AMDA has become much more of a supporting and safe environment for not just me but for everybody who needs it. You certainly learn a lot here, develop great connections with your teachers and get plenty of opportunities out here. I myself, am certainly glad that I chose this school. My daughter just graduated in Sept 2017 from NYC in dance. She had a very positive experience from start to finish! Starting with Elliott Kerr, Assistant Director of Admissions. Elliott did a nice job of answering all our questions and helping get all our paperwork completed. Our daughter loved all her teachers and has said through out her program, "this is the right school for me." I am in the MPA program. While the program is very hard, but yet rewarding, overall, UNO could use some restructuring of their programs and the professors who teach them. There should not be that much variance/ disunity in a professor’s mode of instruction/ lectures and expectations compared to the students homework/ assignments. I know that I am not the only student who felt/ feels this way about some of the professors teaching styles. Some students have already reached out voicing their concerns some students have not because they just want to finish their programs and be done. I feel like students were misled about who would be supervising their projects for spring 2019. Students have been told different things and it keeps changing to fit everyone else/ program needs and not the needs of students. As students, we are students of UNO but we are also customers/stakeholders too. I think UNO sometimes loses sight of that. Like other reviews have indicated the UNO staff/ professors some of them are unresponsive and they do not return emails or phone calls from students asking for help. So don't count on traditional student advisement because they do not do this here. You will navigate your program of study on your own. Hopefully you know which classes are offered and when they are offered or you will be a year behind your graduation schedule as certain class are not offered year round and no one informs you of this until it is too late.S J

Very unprofessional and unresponsive staff, if you want to transfer with an associates, be ready start over at UNO as a freshman. UNO is a business, they're mainly in the parking and book market taking advantage of students, books are twice the price on campus compared to other bookstores elsewhere including online, they advertise cheap credits but when you register, you're bombarded with fees that don't even make any sense, the total fees could amount to more than what you pay for tuition! Not to mention, if you want to meet with an advisor, even for a simple question, you have to make sure that you make an appointment a month in advance, that's how it goes there, they don't respond to emails, to them you're just another student and you don't really feel appreciated, I ended up leaving UNO despite coming with an associate's that was just earned with a GPA of 3.9/4.0, I was told I'd have to start as a freshman! I'll be fair however, the one professor that I took her class there was a wonderful professor she really cared about her students. Nonetheless, I ended up transferring to another university that took all my credits and recognized my hard work and I only have to do 2 years or less there! Since UNO loves profits, I guess in short I can say that I took my business elsewhere!Y. M.

UNO COMMITS LEASE OR RENTAL FRAUD. BE AWARE. Cancelling your housing contract early will lead them to immediately charge you half of ALL OF THE RENT YOU HAVE LEFT, which will likely amount to over $1,000. If you don't pay this all in one bulk amount on ONE DAY, they will begin to charge you late fees. If you get a replacement for your room, THEY WILL NOT TELL YOU, despite saying in the contract that a replacement releases you from what you owe (AKA, they should refund you, but THEY DON'T EVEN TELL YOU). When you call them, they will ask how you 'found out' and then direct you to a different number. Besides, living at UNO is not worth the rent anyway – dorms are messy, noisy, and I knew several people who reported black mold in their dorms and it was ignored by the university. Their classes are often huge lectures with old and upset professors who don't help you to actually learn at all. Majors are limited to mostly business or IT-related occupations with little room to move. Degrees take a long time because they require multiple prerequisites for one single class. UNO LITERALLY ONLY CARES ABOUT MONEY, NOT YOU AS A STUDENT. PICK SOMEWHERE BETTER. There are MANY, MANY BETTER CHOICES.Rachael

Learn from the best. When I was 19 years old, I was accepted to the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute. It was the highlight of my life at the time. The great teachers back then were Harv Dean and David Gideon. I went to school here part time for 9 months to learn acting at its very basic. If you can afford going to the school and want to learn acting from the aspect of the instrument, then I highly recommend going here. The most important thing I learned from this school, is that even if you attend the classes and do your scene work, you need to be out pounding the pavement and looking for work in the industry, an agent and possibly a manager. I would not call the school glamorous but it does show great pride and respect for people who walks through their doors. If you are serious about acting and show business, this is the place to be. Take a look at the names of the superstars that have graced these doors!.C H

Although I am old enough to be the GRANDmother of most of the students, I had the honor to chat with Lee Strasberg himself, one morning, years ago. He spent nearly a half hour on the phone with me – a total stranger. I had acting aspirations back then (I am a freelance writer today). And I have never forgotten his generosity, wisdom, and graciousness to me – someone he would never meet in person. I love stopping by whenever I can, to donate theatre books, costume pieces, and just sniff around who's doing what. Parking on the street for $7 . Get there a little early. Very nice roomy clean venue. We saw "Christmas Carol". The stage was decorated,the costumes were really cool and captured the era, and the actors were believable. We really enjoyed ourselves. The theater sells liquor beverages . There's a small gift shop with novelty items. Inside the theater. There was no "bad" seat. The staff was very nice and helpful. Plenty of staff around to help. Kid friendly. In 3 years of education, what had he really learned? A lot of nonsense. Nothing he did here seemed like it could possibly help him to achieve his life-long ambition. Vectors and equations and tables and essays could do nothing to help him be the first man to carry a kangaroo up Mt. Everest. Unless he left now, he could be trapped here forever, it seemed. This is a beautiful and intimate concert hall. I am not an expert on orchestras or symphonies or their performance halls. However, I have seen a number of performances. While the performance that I saw by the Omaha Symphony was incredible, I was pleasantly surprised by the hall. Initially, I was surprised because it was much smaller than I imagined it to be, but it was the best part of the experience. Since it is not unnecessarily large, you have a great view of the performance from any seat. I will be going back as often as my schedule and budget will allow.B H

This was my first time at this particular venue inside the Holland and Emmaline was the entertainment for the evening. The Holland Music Club is a great room — there is not a bad seat in the house. As you might suspect, the menu is limited, but the ordering process utilizes QR codes with your table number, so you can place an order directly with the kitchen without needing to speak with a member of the waitstaff. Who doesn’t love live theatre. This Venue is that perfect place to enjoy a Christmas Classic. Take a quest along side chain smoking Detective John “we’ll have a few laughs” McClane, Ms. Holly “Could drive somebody that crazy” Gennaro and Sgt. Al “squirts no more” Powell at the Nakatomi Plaza in LA. As a sly band of International Terrorist, lead by the flowing locks of Karl and infamous heavy hand of Hans Gruber. As they have come to collect $600 million in bonds and hold everyone hostage. Hopefully, this will become a Christmas time tradition. I have been bringing my preschool classes here for the past 4 years as a part of the Drama Curriculum Infusion Project and it truly is a fantastic place. The actors are so engaging and really amazing with the kids. The Hitchcock Stage upstairs is a small and intimate setting that my students find magical no matter what play is being put on. I adore that audience interaction is encouraged, we all were part of the show and it is so much more meaningful and fun for preschool children!Nicole Sideris

My son was diagnosed with a spectrum of Autism, ADD, OCD and oppositional defiant disorder. He had been to different places since he was 4 (counseling, behavior counseling, therapy, etc) and not getting the results we’d hoped for. He was getting into fights and getting suspended. Not making any friends. Getting bullied. Teachers sometimes didn’t know how to handle him. I didn’t know what to do. I felt like the money to take him to all these places was just a complete waste. I felt like not many people understood him or how to deal with him. In 2019, I just happened to hear a add on the radio about this place. After getting him help for over 10 years, I was willing to try new things. I had never heard of this place, so I called and I automatically felt hope. This was completely different from anything I had ever seen. It took dedication from him and myself. You have to really put effort into it and make changes- but it works and my son is proof. Within two months it was like having a different kid. They are so good at communicating and making sure you understand everything. They have a very well trained staff who make your child and yourself confident and comfortable. I tell everyone to try this place out if you’re in a similar situation from what we were. My son, the next school year, was on the Merit Roll. Last year, he was asked to join the honor roll society. He hasn’t been picked on, hasn’t gotten into a fight since and has made a few friends. He has more confidence and makes better decisions. He also started working when he was 15 and is one of the better employees there, very dependable and on-time. He hasn’t started driving yet but we’ll work on that eventually. The only thing I regret is not knowing about this place sooner. Even tho he was a teenager, they still helped more in two months than any place I’d been to in the 10 years of getting help. I call it concentrated therapy because that’s how I saw it. They don’t overwhelm you, but they make sure you get your time and money’s worth. They’re good at what they do. It’s absolutely worth it. The West Omaha Brain Balance center went above and beyond. We started our Brain Balance journey in Utah, then moved to Omaha two months into our program. They helped us so much when the change was overwhelming for my daughter. We were able to come into the center every weekday and they would help her with her daily exercises since it became impossible to do them at home with the overload we were all feeling with the significant change in our lives. We did experience some of the " negative progress" such as potty accidents frequently, and as frustrating as that was for me to clean up the significant changes I saw in her over the months made all of it worth it. She didn't handle change well at all, we would keep any plans we made to ourselves until we arrived in case something changed or even a traffic delay that pushed our time schedule back a bit. If we didn't and alter to a plan would set her off. Screaming and crying for hours. No joke. Hours! It was hard to break ourselves of the habit of keeping plans to ourselves but as we greatly tested her with simple plans such as "after we get dressed we are going on a walk" and then we would change the walk for a bike ride and we only had a ten minute fit instead of hours we were floored! Ten minutes still may seem ridiculous to some, but compared to the hours we were dealing with, ten minutes was nothing. And every week after those fits got shorter until she was able accept change without a fit at all! We participated in the brain Balance program for 5 months, and are now in the monthly support program for a year. The changes we had seen in those 5 months have been completely life changing. I talk about Brain Balance every chance I get. I will sing it's praises for years to come and an so thankful we found Brain Balance when we did. My daughter will complete her year of support right before she starts kindergarten and I am no longer worried about her social skills.Whitney Snyder

We drove 2.5 hours to get to our Brain Balance appts 2-3x/week. We followed the exercise program and nutrition recommendations very closely. This was sometimes very difficult when we were spending 20 hours a week in the car and at our BB appts, plus another 6-8hrs/week to complete the home exercise program. We made lots of sacrifices around our time, finances, and summer activities that were hard to fit in with the time commitment required to be ALL IN with the BB appts, nutrition and home program!! However, despite the fact that it consumed our lives for 4 months, the gains that my 5.5 year old son made were phenomenal and he is thriving in kindergarten! Areas where he struggled before he is flourishing in. The only area I wished to see more gain in was his fine motor skills…however they did give us great ideas to continue working on his fine motor skills at home. The BB ladies were excellent with my little guy, he really did enjoy his appts! They accommodated our schedule as much as possible coming in early, and on some saturdays! I would recommend them to anybody with a kiddo who is struggling. We made more gains in 4 months that we had in 2.5 years of pediatric out patient occupational and physical therapy 2x/week!Ashley Meyer

I went out with a friend here just last night. The tickets were very affordable and the drinks were a great price too! Staff were all welcoming and friendly. It was a clean and cozy environment. The room to sit in was a bit small and the chairs were nothing special I'm not complaining because it was a great time. There are public restrooms which were clean as well. Great place to take lessons, dance and musical theater! They offer a wide variety of options for private lessons and classes for students to choose from. As a teacher I don’t have to worry about making up student lessons and feel at ease knowing my students don’t have to worry about missing instruction because of the lesson mate program that we use. Things are always clearly communicated and I feel as though I can approach Taylor, Aryssa, Amanda and Kristina with any questions or concerns I may have. Our 7 year old has been taking piano lessons at OSMD for almost a year now. He has one private lesson and one group lesson weekly. His love for piano has continued to grow and he cannot wait to go to lessons with Miss Christine each week! I can tell that Miss Christine balances making the lessons fun and serious by the way our son talks about their little celebrations when he does well and the repetition when he isn’t quite getting it. The mini musician class is nice and they get a small backpack with a variety of small musical instruments within the bag. We loved the teacher during the month of February, but there has been either no or a sub since the beginning to middle of March. The first week that the class was canceled due to there being no teacher, none of the MM parents were alerted. Then there has been a sub since then, who has been very nice.P Limbach

My family and I were so excited to see Wicked. We had family travel 500 miles to go to the show. I bought tickets in the front row of the Grand Tier so we could have a comfortable, enjoyable experience. I checked multiple times to be sure I had the seats I wanted. I paid $103 per seat and seeing the prices behind me I was sure I was in for a wonderful night. Imagine my surprise when the ushers directed us to the very last row in the theater seated with about 20 or 30 other disenchanted patrons thinking they had the same seats. And guess what? The ticket office denied that we were bait and switched and couldn't do a thing about MY MISTAKE! I would have never paid $103 per seat to sit in the back of the house struggling to hear and see this fantastic production. Shame on you OPA. I hope I know what I bought I I didn't get it. I stood in line for the Hamilton tickets sale on one of the hottest days of the year. The staff at Omaha Performing Arts figured everything out to make it as easy and pleasant as possible to navigate the huge sea of ticket buyers. They gave me a wristband and a clipboard with a form for the ticket options: dates, times, seat locations, costs, etc so I could pre-plan my purchase. Then I waited in the shade at tables and chairs which were set up for the buyers where they provided cold water to drink. I never actually got in line until my wristband number was called, and then it took about 45 minutes to go through the account verification/creation process and purchase my tickets. I was the 290th box office ticket buyer while there were 20,000 buyers waiting online, and it took me about an hour and a half to get Hamilton tickets. Good seats at that.Rob Feltus

I've been attending shows at the Holland Center throughout the last decade, and I'm always blown away about every part of the experience. The venue is incredibly nice, especially in terms of acoustics and general style. The staff are always helpful and friendly, which always adds to the experience. The quality of the shows, whether it be the Omaha symphony or a guest, is always top notch. Located right in the middle of downtown Omaha, there is always ample parking. FREE SERVICE DOG TRAINING FOR DISABLED VETERANS!! Those were the best words I had heard in a long time after doing my research for a service dog for me. Other trainers and or companies wanted thousands of dollars which our family really didn't have in or budget, or there was a year long waiting list. I didn't have a dog at the time. I went to NHS and adopted my Sasha Nichole. Russ was awesome and understanding that we were two buddies that didn't have a clue what we were doing. We were experts at cuddling. It was nice to work with a trainer that also had a Military background. It was a rough start Sasha had so many bad habits with helping herself to people food no matter where it was. After we both got the training we needed to correct that I felt like we were on our way to success. When I was having problems bringing my Service Dog into certain places I called Russ for some advice. He was very knowledgeable on the ADA laws and explained to me what I needed to do next time we were denied access. I now feel confident to stand up for my rights and let them know that they are breaking laws. Russ helped me and trained Sasha quickly but at our pace. Without Russ and Sasha I don't know where I would be today. I can't say thank you enough to Dillon's Dogs and Russ. I was blown away by the immediate and huge improvement in my dogs behavior after one session. We did exactly what Russ showed us – it was easy and took just a minute or two several times a day. And it 100% worked. I was very skeptical an in home trainer would make a difference in our 3 yr old dogs behavior. We had already gone to puppy training and the Humane Society obedience training, practiced the exercises and still had an annoying, destructive, and uncooperative dog. Our dog knew what commands meant but only obeyed when he felt like it, or we offered a treat he wanted. He was getting increasingly aggressive to other dogs, barking insanely at anything he saw through the windows, clawing at closed doors, wouldn’t come when called, stealing food and clothes, demanding constant attention, charging guests at the door, etc. Most of these bad behaviors were corrected after one session and the remaining behaviors eliminated the second session. A well behaved dog in two weeks without bribery or fear/punishment. Truly amazing!Renae

Dillon's Dog Training was simply outstanding! My wife and I hired Russ Dillon to train our beagle. Without his help, there is a good chance we would not have been able to keep our dog because he was so out of control. Now Bullwinkle is a loving member of our family! From the very beginning of our training, Russ made it clear that a happy and well balanced dog was the goal, and that goal was evident throughout the training. He made sure that we did not lose patience and even when our dog challenged us, there was always an answer and we always saw progress.
