The book rental service the school insists you use by building the cost straight in to the tuition cost is a nightmare. I have to contact customer service every time I have to make a return. Also, some of my textbooks are always late. I never have them all before the first day of class. I am having an ongoing battle with the business office about a bill for the classes I dropped. As per the refund agreement I signed, I had until the start of class to withdraw for a full refund. I did and I have emails (with date and time stamps) between my academic adviser and I where I asked to be removed from classes and was told it was handled before that deadline and I am still getting emails pestering me to pay for a portion of the class. When I call no one seems to know how to fix it. I am starting to believe this is all one big scam. I have also taken off work to go to the financial aid office with an appointment to be told the lady I was supposed to meet wasn't in that day and I should have received a cancellation email which I did not. I missed four hours of paid work and drove an hour and twenty minutes each way for nothing. Then she emailed me the next week and asked me to come in again to handle business which I could not do because I need to be at work to make a living. Lunatics are clearly running the place. If you are a parent thinking of sending your kid here, or a student thinking about attending….DON’T!! Unless you are a parent that likes getting calls once a week that they just heard gunshots or someone they knew was robbed or had their car broken into. Or if you’re a student that doesn’t want to leave campus without wearing a bulletproof vest. They might as well pick this place up and drop it in the middle of Baghdad. Your kid would probably safer. Many of my professors didn’t take me seriously because I didn’t follow their beliefs. In one of their classes I failed because, “since you didn’t grow up in a catholic family you’ll never get it.” I was trying as hard as I could, SI’s, tutors, everything, but as soon as the professor knew I was atheist I felt extremely ostracized, not only from the student body but from the staff as well. Rockhurst has a beautiful campus in Kansas City. It is a smaller college campus and it is located close to the Plaza. Although I haven't personally taken classes, I have been told it is a good experience. They are partnering with St Luke's for the nursing program. The security officers that I've encountered have been super friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend checking out this college.Kimber Mata

I was in the animation major, and the department is not only severely underfunded but overall at this school the teachers are extremely biased and unable to teach in an effective way. Students have to take turns to use the equipment and then get told it's their fault when they're unable to meet deadlines. I personally have problems with learning computer programs, and when I asked for help I was told to "Google it". I'm paying $30,000 a year in tuition, I expect to be helped, not told to do something I could do on my own. The teachers also, instead of teaching, would have "video tutorials" for students to watch and would refuse to help and instead redirect students to the videos, which were only good if you had a Mac computer. They made no sense if you used a PC, which is what 80% of the students in the major had. The school says it embraces creativity, but the classes expect you to do things in a very specific way, and if you don't do it you're docked on your grades for it. The school itself is also very elitist. I was told by many students who take the foundation classes that they were strongly advised against getting jobs while at school, but then we're also expected to buy expensive art supplies. Not only that, but the school itself shows blatant bias against the applied art majors like animation and illustration and graphic design. They also showed no care or concern for the interactive arts major. They actually closed the major down when there were students halfway through finishing and told to move to other majors. Signing up for classes is a nightmare. Advising counselors don't help with sign up whatsoever, have admitted multiple times via email they don't know which classes count towards required credits for degrees, and half the time there's not enough room in the required classes or there's classes you need that aren't being taught/available. This was especially prevalent during senior year which was absolutely ridiculous and stressful. The buildings themselves are very underkept. They're building new buildings while the baty house and illustration department building are infested with cockroaches and mold. Their student website also is really bad. It constantly locks you out and makes you reset your password, and the school itself has bad wifi connections. They are impossible to get in contact with, I would send multiple emails asking for help with admissions or signing up for classes and would only be redirected to multiple people, all who showed very blatantly that they didn't care. Teachers use the website called Moodle for their online assignments, which sucks because Moodle is one of the worst websites I've ever had to use. Not only is it stupid that this school doesn't have online classes, which for a lot of people I know would've helped a lot, the website they do use looks and works like it was made and last updated in the early 90s. The neighborhood around it is also bad. It's relatively safe around the Nelson, but that's because they have good security. The school, however, does not. There have been mutliple instances while I've been there where students have been robbed at gunpoint. Another family had their car stolen off campus. The school sends out a monthly crime report of everything going on around the school and it's usually a couple pages long. It's ridiculous the amount of crime that goes on around and on campus. The only reason I came to this school was because it was closer to my hometown than other animation schools, something I really regret doing now. Personally, if you are considering going to this school I would say to give it a hard pass. Keep your options open, because this school will not hesitate to screw you over. It costs too much for what you're getting in return, and you'll be on your own because it's impossible to get help from anyone who works there.S

Honestly a really crappy school, their buildings are disgusting and falling apart, their food is awful, wifi works maybe once every few weeks. Their school program is great but honestly everything else is such a whirling storm of crap that with all the money you're paying you wonder where your money is even going. If you do decide to go here DONT live in the dorms, also they'll make everything so stressful that you might end up having a phsycotic breakdown, because seriously somebody had one. If you asked me if you should go here I'd say no. I stayed in the dorms and had a roommate who at first glance appeared to be quite ordinary until the evening of my 4th Tuesday here. I returned to my dorm to find my roommate cloaked in black. She stood in the center of a pentagram of candles. She threw salt at me. At first I was confused but then I realized how blessed I am to be attending such an institute. I'm not saying this is a bad school. It is a really affordable option for people who want small class sizes and one-on-one opportunities with professors. But be warned, the small class sizes come with a price. Professors are required to take attendance and often grade for participation. The campus is nice, but quite small. Park does offer some clubs and campus activities, but obviously nothing compared to a larger school. The Copley Quad dorms are very nice and while there isn't a super large community of students who get involved those who do seem to have a great time. That being said, if you are looking for a "typical" college experience this isn't the place. Most of the students commute and many of them are non-traditional meaning they are older than the average student, part-time, or using their GI bill. I don't regret going to Park because it is an affordable school. However, I do wish I'd gone to a more rigorous school, or at least a school with more life. The students for the most part aren't sure engaged and don't have a lot of school spirit. I don't know many students in my classes who are going to drive around with Park bumperstickers or wear the t-shirts around after graduation. For me, when I imagined going to college I pictured a campus filled with the hustle and bustle of student life. I hoped there would be enough of a residential presence that some parties would take place and I kind of anticipated having my mind opened to the world. I thought I'd participate in lively in-class discussion and do research that would prepare me for grad school much more than I have. There's not much diversity and not much student activism (they brag about all of the international students at Park but they aren't integrated into the campus very well). I also thought going to Park would come with the added freedom and flexibility most students dream of after high school graduation. In reality, Park feels a lot like a grownup high school. I want to be clear Park is a good school, you should just know what you're getting into. You can only be as immersed in the college experience as you allow yourself to be and I will admit I didn't really want to drink the Park kool-aid. If you're looking for a school you can become deeply immersed in, this might not be the place. But if you're just looking to get a degree and get out for a good price I do recommend checking it out.Brooke Rhoads

Do not waste your time with this schools online program. It is a for-profit institution in that aspect, and is on par with University of Phoenix. This school should be taken off of military installations. Pretty much what Sara said. It claims to be for military veterans, which is a lie. Just about every education officer you encounter will advise you to not go to Park University. This school gouges you for money. They've developed Online programs that sound appealing to Military members, but like Sara said, you learn nothing in. They're priced appropriately to rob you of all the Tuition Assistance you earn, and quickly at that. The administration is a joke. There is no accountability and they just pass you from person to person if you have an issue. I have had Marines file student grievance reports against different departments and not have them ever be solved. They eventually just switch institutions. The phone clerks respond with e-mails and claim they have M.A.'s that they earned at Park. If you want to be a highly qualified phone clerk go to Park.Danielle Troop

This university is a joke. i have two bachelor's degrees and an MA from a top ranked liberal arts institution. Going to back to school for my second graduate degree, I thought I'd try the online thing, and I wanted to stick with a private university. Clearly, Park was the wrong choice. Administration is riddled with bureaucracy, instructors have very little power over the course shells (if they care enough to bother), and e-courses are horribly disorganized and dated. I've yet to take a course with a completely updated syllabus. Neither have I had a single chance to take a course with actual tenured faculty. Nothing against adjuncts. They work hard, and they get almost nothing back in return for their hard work. But good grief; you'd think at least some of the upper-level classes would be taught by professors. In the end, I would never recommend this school. Thankfully, come spring, I'm transferring to a college that actually shows an interest in its students. I'm not giving any more money to the incompetent bureaucrats that run this institution.Cat L

We used the Pogo Pass (definitely worth it if you want to try out different activities around KC). It was a fun time, it’s similar to Wonderscope but obviously has science incorporated into the activities/exhibits. I probably wouldn’t bring a kid under 2 unless you had other kids with you, my almost 3 year old had fun though. Probably most fun for 4-10 years old. Could easily spend 3 hours here if you want to see everything. Close to crown center which is nice so you can make a day of it. If you park at crown center and don’t mind walking a little you can park for free (3 hrs free with validation slip, 6 hrs free if you spend $25 and get a slip from guest services), otherwise the union station garage does cost a little. Totally worth the hype, the short trip and day passes–this place is a wonderland of discovery and endless fun. The Science City I remember as a kid was a blast but it is just packed now with engaging, fun, educational and state-of-the-art activities and interactive exhibits. Would totally recommend this as a full-day outing to families, groups and individuals of all ages and interests. We got a late start (230pm-whoops!) and will be returning soon for a whole day to make it to the areas we missed. There's something for everyone here to enjoy. PLUS! The staff and amenities I encountered were excellent; very accommodating and helpful all the way up until closing time (at Christmas time, no less!) Enjoy yourselves, y'all ! PS. We've had a family pass to Science City off and on for the past few years, it's generally a pretty decent way to spend a Saturday afternoon out and about without worrying too much about the weather. The people there are generally pretty helpful and friendly, though really you're pretty much left to your own devices here. The things to be done don't change all that often, so as an adult one would tend to get bored here, but the kids have a good time. Union Station is pretty, but once again, once you've seen it….well, you've seen it. I can't say that I'd recommend eating here, it's expensive and I've never heard great things about the service. This is a beautiful venue. But it's age is showing. There are glaring accessibility issues especially with reaching a bathroom, or seats in the balcony. Not all balcony seating is created equal, depending on your seats you may be crushed in a small seat with zero leg room, or you might be completely comfortable. There is no direct elevator access to the lower balcony, it's reachable by stairs only. There are no rails on the balcony stairs or running lights to help people who might have balance or vision concerns. The stairs are also very steep. That said, if your seats are on the balcony, there's no bad place to sit to be able see the show. And the staff is always very helpful in directing you to your seats. Also worth noting that parking is always a nightmare, and extremely expensive. Be prepared to pay $20-30 to park nearby.Elizabeth Parmeter

I love seeing shows at the Midland. I most recently saw Tech N9ne there, and my one complaint is that they seemed to have beefed up security for no apparent reason. There were members of security standing out amongst the crowd kind of posturing, who looked like they were trying to be intimidating, or maybe even hoping for trouble. Absolutely gorgeous venue. I took my girlfriend here to see the Wallows for the first time in concert; great experience! The seats were excellent and even though we were in the balcony seating, we still had a great view of the stage. Sound was equally perfect even from where we were located. I’m a ballet teacher and still take dance. I was recently at KCB and the security guard was yelling at the 5-6 year olds and being rude to me as well. She basically likes to be rude and yell to show her authority. You know the type I’m sure. The executive director was not apologetic. I really think this school is made to make money. They don’t care about dancers. I’ve worked and danced at a lot of studios all over the country and this place is very poorly run. It’s really sad to see this place run so badly. Pretty building but poorly run. It used to be a lot better a few years ago but has declined. The security guard also was rude to me on the way in and the way out. I forcing rules that don’t even apply to keeping people safe. It made my whole experience stressful witnessing her yell at kids and be yelled at to the point I won’t ever return to this school. I’d advise to go to a better school for your children and if you’re an adult dancer Od also advice going somewhere else. They refuse to refund me for my classes.Sheri Pociluyko

I had tickets for Sunday. I've had Covid (x2) and when I got my 1 vaccine back in April I had a significant adverse reaction (pfizer). This last week in preparation for the show I visited my primary care physician to discuss this. We decided together to send me for Quest semi quantitative antibody test. I came back at a 93 (under 1 is no antbodies) and it goes to 100. So I'm very well protected by my one vaccine and natural immunity. My doctor wrote a letter to the venue stating my antibody levels are more than equal to 2 injections. I provided all of this information to KC ballet but they still refuse my attendance and called me today to tell me that and refund my tickets. Honestly can't say enough about this ballet school. Even as a former dancer who has very high standards concerning dance I was blown away. The ability of every teacher she had to get at least 10 3-5 year olds to all do the same thing for 45 min was amazing. I love old school ballet class feel. Reminds me of my summer Joffrey classes. Live piano is so special. The building immediately makes you feel like you are doing something special. Cant wait to watch CeCe grow up here.Liza cartwright

Very small museum which highlights Louis Armstrong, and Ella Fitzgerald. There are also samples of their music which you can listen through headphones provided at the stations which are not sanitized between guests. I visited the American Jazz Museum today and had a great time. The museum is very affordable, well laid out and provided an outstanding exhibit of American jazz and culture. Also, today was the final day for the Billie Holiday special exhibit, which was amazing. This is a great place to visit if you are in Kansas City Missouri, and gives you an amazing perspective on American history and culture.Derrick Grant

18th & Vine is an historical district for American and also houses the Negro Baseball Leagues Museum. You should visit with the understanding that American Jazz spans more than 1 area of the Country. Worth a stop to see the Blues influence in Jazz. Visited on

I had my wedding here last night and the new host of this venue was horrible. Latasha is her name. She kept making inappropriate comments to our guest, trying to tell our bridal party what they should and shouldn't wear. She told one of our guest couples that their interracial marriage was inappropriate.She was very overbearing and antagonizing.Even our vendors complained to us about her. Latasha is not a good person and our event was the first for her at this venue. She kept trying to redo our decorations after our decorator had them done and was upset that she didn't want to change our decor for what SHE wanted. She wanted to be in everybody's business but her own. At the end of the night as we were cleaning she started running her mouth again while our best man and maid of honor were talking, interrupting their conversation,and started a yelling match. Then tried to say that she didn't but she was literally juking and pushing trying to confront him after he walked out the door away from her. She should not be doing this type of work. I have sooo many other complaints that I will be taking to the owner as long as she is working there I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Let me add that she wrote a "to do" list on the back of our marriage license!! Smh *Edit to add To the owner, this review was made before we had our face to face. Vox Theatre was absolutely instrumental in allowing my class to have a graduation celebration this year. We really wanted to be able to celebrate together, but with a lot of restrictions and price variability in the venues I contacted, it seemed we were out of luck. Then I found Vox Theatre. I contacted the owner Carolyn and told her about my class earning our doctorate, but that we wouldn’t be able to celebrate with our families due to COVID restrictions the university still had in place. We were hoping to find a venue that could accommodate our group so we could celebrate with our families. Carolyn was so nice and accommodating. She worked with me from a budget perspective and also allowed us to have the graduation celebration we worked so hard to achieve. I cannot recommend this venue enough! If you are looking for a space with a caring and skilled owner, Vox Theatre is the place for you! Whether it’s a wedding, office party, graduation party, or whatever you’re hosting, Carolyn and her team are fantastic to work with. 10/10 would host an event here again!Erica Manley

Vox Theatre was so incredibly helpful and accommodating during the uncertainty that was 2020. Anna and Caroline went above and beyond to help us recreate our original vision as closely as possible and it was truly amazing! As soon as Caroline heard that I love Christmas and we had a very Christmas-themed wedding she sprung into action decorating the theatre with gorgeous snowflakes, Christmas trees, and reindeer; it created such a warm and inviting atmosphere for our wedding! Anna was extremely available, attentive, and responsive to all of our panicked last-minute questions and concerns and had an appropriate answer for everything. She also made sure to coordinate with our outside vendors which our wedding day run seamlessly. Saw The School of Rock and it was exceptional. The rewrite, the lead, the other performers…all were what I'd expect to see on Broadway. This is the norm for the musicals performed at the Theater in the Park. The orchestra seamlessly supports the performances with highly talented musicians. The ambiance … it's in the Park! (None of my family came home with mosquito bites). You bring your own chair and drinks and snacks. We sat in the section furthest from the stage, yet the sound was perfect. Theater in the Park is an amazing entertainment venue. The shows are of a professional quality and you can't beat the $10 price. We arrived early (around 6:45) to wait in line so we could get seats fairly close to the stage. The gates opened at 7:30 and the show started promptly at 8:30. KAUFFMAN Center is architecturally beautiful. It is an intimate setting in which, there is not a "bad" seat in the house!!! The volunteers are remarkably friendly and sooo courteous!!! The only issue is that for individuals either limited mobility there are three elevator changes to get to some parts of the Center. Also, the direction that one of the elevators faces is in the direction of a staircase. When masses of people are exiting, it is a challenge to get to the elevator because if the mass exit of people using the staircase. I think if it were stationed off better for the mobility challenged, it would be a much better experience. Still, I rate 5 stars because I love this facility. I would highly recommend attending an event here. The KC symphony is by far one of the most talented symphonies I have ever heard, and the halls in which they play make the sound really pop. The parking is fairly easy to get in and out of, but for if any reason you have troubles maneuvering your way through the Kauffman Center, there are plenty of friendly and helpful staff to help you along the way. There is also a wonderful gift shop as well as some areas for concessions. The generous staff, the creative snacks and gifts, and the wonderful music were the main reasons why my trip to the Kauffman Center was made a little extra special this year as my family and I enjoyed a nice outing on Christmas Eve.A L

We attended the Lyric Opera today and had such a great time. The location is beautiful with all of the glass windows. We loved how secure the process to get in was. It first started with a check of your vaccine card, no vaccine, no entrance.. no kids allowed as they cannot have been fully vaccinated at this point. Next, is the walk through the metal detector/security point. They then had someone at almost every turn making sure you were going the right way and didn't need any help. The facilities were immaculate and the Opera was so mesmerizing!!Cathy Warren

It’s a beautiful theater with comfortable seats and a lot of legroom. Driving to the theatre is a bit of a headache because traffic is so backed up going through the parking gates. Getting in to the theater is another hassle due to lack of signage and staff to redirect people. Lobby is small. Concessions are right at the door when you enter so crowd flow gets a bit of a challenge again. It needs a bit of restructuring to ease the flow of crowd. Otherwise, it’s a great theater!!Allera B

Beautiful venue, however I hope that you may begin starting the shows reminding guests that the auditorium is built for acoustics, therefore the sounds of whispering and gum chewing carry. This was such a cute theater. The staff was friendly, the Bathrooms were clean. The show was pretty cool too. Parking was decent. I parked in the garage next to the theater for $10. Very convenient. For beginners and advanced students alike, Theatre of the Imagination is an immersive and hands on exploration into the world of performance art that helps its students to develop vital communication and leadership skills. It is the perfect environment for fostering creativity, friendship and FUN!! I absolutely loved my time as a student with this organization. I enjoyed it so much that I went on to work as an instructor with them for several years. It was one of the most educational and rewarding opportunities that I have ever had. Miles is an AMAZING teacher who has explosively positive energy that translates directly into every single performance. Your kids will have such a good time taking on the roles of zany characters and learning how much fun it is to be creative while working on a team. I went to Theatre of the Imagination as a kid, and it was an extremely rewarding experience. I am 20 now and still have life long friendships from when I was 11 years old at camp. Theatre of the Imagination gave me a chance to express myself and feel comfortable with myself. I loved acting and creating shows, and started my theatre experience which led me into the theatre program at my high school. 9 years later, I have come back and seen the extraordinary things that this camp provides for kids. I have seen shy little kids shine on stage and it is an incredible thing to witness. Leaving camp this summer feels like leaving my second home. Cant wait to come back next summer!!Allison Strauss

Hello! I am a stage manager here in Kansas City and a former teacher. While Theatre of the Imagination may seem different from other theatre camps in town. I will say this – it's in the difference that one feels special. Theatre of the Imagination gives children a taste of theatre. What it's like when the stage lights come on and what it's like to say your lines in front of a crowd. I would recommend Theatre of the Imagination for those who are interested getting to know theatre and what this whole wide wacky world is about. Miles' "no audition" policy gives a chance for all children to feel what it's like to be apart of something much bigger than themself.Matthew Koehler

I’ve been going to Empire for a little over 2 years on a consistent basis. I love taking class here! I’m a professional actor and singer who’s looking to strengthen her dancing skills, and since I started coming here, I’ve improved so much! My favorite class is Kenny’s Thursday night hip hop class because not only does he give us top notch and high-level choreography, he also offers real industry knowledge such as how to do the little things in an audition that will increase your chances of booking a job. One of my favorite aspects about Empire overall, however, is the positive atmosphere. I’ve been to many studios where everyone is out to be the best in the class and tear others down, but that’s not the case here. We all encourage each other, want to see people succeed, and most importantly, HAVE FUN!Natalee Merola

I absolutely loved the environment at Empire! The owners Ashley and Kenny are such amazing people and really take pride in their studio and company! Definitely a place to dance! I’m from California and used to dance at millennium in LA and this definitely gives those vibez but better because they are such nice and have amazing teachers that they choose! Whether you're brand new to dance or have been doing it your whole life, there's a place for you here. I'm a professional dancer- I have trained and performed all over the world, and have *rarely* worked with people as loyal, kind, and supportive as Kenny and Ashley Personett. They value hard work, professionalism, and kindness. They provide jobs for dancers all over the city and are always working to do more. I am not originally from KC and had never heard of this show before. I found it while looking up kids' activities to do here, and I am so glad I did! The show we saw was hilarious. There was comedy for adults as well as the little ones. The 21 month old on my lap had an amazing time and was able to stay entertained the entire hour! I couldn't believe how enthralled she was with the show. I highly recommended taking kids of all ages. Worth the price for a fun, unique, and engaging activity.Ellyn Hunter

I've been to two shows, and the second one was great. The first was a bit of a dud, but I think it was a fluke (they were trying something geared towards adults) and I don't regret going. This is such an amazing establishment. My children loved watching Anansi the Spider. Everyone was kind and helpful, and the guys who performed the show went above and beyond my expectations, even showing the kids how the puppets work. I hope to come to another show soon! Highly recommend.Tiffany T

Omggggg We LOVED this so so much. This place….I telling you….is a KC hidden gem. From going up the enchanting escalator when you first enter. To the refreshing and unique drinks (with unique names to match) again Amazing Experience….Now onto the show, from the lights, to the live MUSIC (which truly was incredible), to the stunning dancing and aww inspiring acrobatics, This place summed up in one word….WOWJustin Metz

My daughter took a workshop here. Super amazing aerial dancing! The instructor was very knowledgeable and a clear communicator. Old warehouse building, renovated and being put to good use. Crazy one-way-in/out parking lot, but nice to have an off-street option. Multiple dance rooms, one other in use with a private lesson. My boys were enthralled with the fish tank! Fun touch. Have enjoyed the Quixotic group for several years now. My first introduction was at the WaterFire KC event. I was amazed at the acrobatic display and athletic ability of the performers. Captivated by the entire sensory experience of the synchronized music and acts. Highly recommend the Sensatia performance at the new Quixotic theatre in Crown Center.Michelle Dixon

This new Black Box Theater will be a boon to the local content creatives. Saw a music / theater presentation here that took a funny and personal look at alcohol abuse. It was presented by a local group NoDivideKC. Looking forward to this theater generating challenging musical and performance pieces to ramp up KC’s art scene.neil solomon

Had tickets to The Christmas Carol last evening. Did not see the information requiring proof of full vaccination or a negative Covid test within 72 hours of the show. Tickets were purchased through a third-party vendor and Covid information was listed in the "notes" section. This is totally unacceptable, they should have had a pop-up window that required that you had acknowledged this information before you were able to purchase the tickets. We live an hour and a half away and spent over $100/ticket. Total waste of an evening we were looking forward to. We will never be back to support this venue. A refund should have been offered to us in person.BROOKE KARR

Excellent place to see a show. Parking is good. Getting in is a breeze. The waiting area is large enough to make waiting for doors to open not a chore. Good selection of drinks and food while waiting. At least the show I went to, you could preorder intermission food (or halftime snacks as I call it). Then the theater is great. We had an absolute wonderful time seeing the Christmas Carol. It was our third visit over three years and our boys like it more each year.
