20 Best Acting Programs In Allentown, PA (2022 Updated)

The Campus is clean, and well maintained. The food isn't too bad. But aside from these constants, you will have a different experience depending on your worldview going in. The theology and philosophy courses you will be required to take will be authentically Catholic, which will either encourage or enrage you depending on if you are a practicing Catholic or not. Other general ed's will be standard, but sufficent. DeSales University is going to be a decidedly different experience depending on your major as well. If your major is in the arts and you are a practicing Catholic, you will have a tough time since most of the people in that major will be agnostic or atheist (and professors may be geared towards that). However-the actual theory and practical application of the discipline you are studying is going to be very good and useful. The people you meets will likely be very nice, and you won't have a tough time finding friends if you try. The faith life of campus is pretty good, with various to groups to encourage you. There's a small community of students who attend daily mass, which is always a help. The Mass itself however (Sunday and weekday), leaves a bit to be desired. The music especially will sound a bit 1970's, instead of having the timeless characteristic of a liturgically accurate mass. Gregorian Chant or Polyphony would sure help here, but the choir director is a protestant at the moment (for some reason) so that is unlikely. All in all, whether you are a practicing Catholic or an unabashed pagan you will have some issues with DeSales, but the academics themselves are good and you will likely be prepared for your field upon graduation.JP Kloess

It seems incredible that they are a university with "Christian principles" and today February 22, 2021, they announced a snow day and did not cancel classes or offer them online to students who commute to campus. My daughter is in college and she cannot come back to my home because it is snowing very hard and she drives a small car that cannot be driven in the snow because it may cause and or have an accident. You should be more empathetic with the students who commute. It seems that they are only interested in the money and not in the lives of the students. And now you close campus at 3:00pm and my daughter can’t drive to my home. Who will solve that?Wanda Rodríguez

Enjoyed a few Basebal Games. Not a bad seat in the house. When One arrives at The Stadium Complex, there's an opportunity to watch Men's Baseball or Women's Softball. The fields are "SUPER" nice. They are well maintained and down right beautiful. Bring an umbrella for shade. It can get a bit hot. This is a "GREAT" Family Event. Unlike other places, there's NO COST to get in. Parking is free , however it can get a little tight w/ games going on at both fields simultaneously. This being said, If you're a Baseball Fan, it's an experience to be had. Visit soon….. First of all, I have no connection to Cedar Crest College. I did not attend school nor do I know anyone that attended school there. On June 7 2018 I made a journey to the Lehigh Valley to photograph the campus of Cedar Crest College in Allentown Pennsylvania. I was inspired by a vintage early 50’s video of the school that I saw on YouTube. When I arrived I was not disappointed. The campus is so well manicured that it almost seemed like I was exploring a country club. Parking was easy and the campus was easy to find. My self-guided tour took me to all points on the campus from the aquatic center to the Da Vinci Science Center. I would like to come back to the science center when it is open. The centerpiece of the Cedar Crest College campus is Blaney Hall. The historic old building photographed well and it is surrounded by gardens in bloom. I saw the theater, cafeteria, and the art gallery. The art gallery is open limited hours and I was not able to go inside. The theater was also closed but the cafeteria was open for business and the prices were great. Cedar Crest College is 151 years young and it is truly a gem in the Lehigh Valley.Richard K

Honestly the worst school for nursing. So many people get kicked out of their school for pointless reasons. You have a better bet going to a different nursing school in the area. Cedar Crest nurses are always unconfident even when they are knowledgeable because of the environment they’re put in. If you ask working nurses in the area, they’ll tell you that they’ve only heard horror stories from Cedar Crest. People only look at their pass rate, but not their drop rate and how many people they let go for nothing. They have to take proficiency exams every semester and have to score 90% or higher on things they have not been taught yet. Go to a school that doesn’t have that! More than four professors have left within the last year and there’s a reason for that. Some quit in the middle of the year!! All the students will tell you that there’s always broken or used equipment and that the staff never values mental health of their students. Students are expected to be at a doctorate level and teach themselves. This school is extremely unorganized and there are other places that respect their nursing students and encourage teaching!Emily Snyder

I am afraid of my daughter committing suicide over this school!!!! She is so stressed and anxious because they only care about the money. When over half the class fails a test it’s not the student as much as it is the teacher!! Barely anyone gets through the nursing program without failing… a few times!! She is in so much debt but I cannot talk her into transferring because she would have to start the program over! They expect the best of the best out of the students but have the worst of the worst professors!!! They should be ashamed of themselves! They do not tech you. They expect the students to teach themselves and to know what they are doing. If the students ask questions they are made out to feel stupid. My experience at the Barrow Group has truly helped me not to give up as an actor. After moving to NYC in 2009, my very talented friend recommended that I take classes at The Barrow Group. I trusted his recommendation because he was very knowledgable about the class options in the city. I am so thankful that I found the Barrow Group!! I really missed my theatre community from Graduate School and the Barrow Group became my NYC home base. I have taken four classes with Lee Brock and I have learned so much from her. She helped me go back to the beginning…back to those years before all of the training…Lee helped me go back to the 'Story.' She helped me to focus on what truly matters…telling the story! The teaching style of the Barrow Group is extremely accessible to actors. You can get a feel for the teachings style by reading Seth Barrish's book "An Actor's Companion: 99 Bit of Craft." I am starting my fourth class tomorrow. Obviously, I love this place. The teachers are friendly, down to earth, and REALLY know their stuff. It really is amazing, the learning curve, and how much you do learn during just one class, let alone three. The teaching methods are so great, it makes you almost feel like what you have learned should have been common sense. I've attended one of their shows (so far), and it was really an inspiring experience, with just superb acting. I am a 1983 graduate and I felt that my educational experience at Muhlenberg was excellent. It is academically very rigorous and challenging, but also socially responsible while providing a very family-like atmosphere. On Friday May 31 2019 I did a self-guided tour of Muhlenberg College. I was impressed by the building's architecture. Every building has a red door. I wondered what the significance of that. Learn from the best. When I was 19 years old, I was accepted to the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute. It was the highlight of my life at the time. The great teachers back then were Harv Dean and David Gideon. I went to school here part time for 9 months to learn acting at its very basic. If you can afford going to the school and want to learn acting from the aspect of the instrument, then I highly recommend going here. The most important thing I learned from this school, is that even if you attend the classes and do your scene work, you need to be out pounding the pavement and looking for work in the industry, an agent and possibly a manager. I would not call the school glamorous but it does show great pride and respect for people who walks through their doors. If you are serious about acting and show business, this is the place to be. Although I am old enough to be the GRANDmother of most of the students, I had the honor to chat with Lee Strasberg himself, one morning, years ago. He spent nearly a half hour on the phone with me – a total stranger. I had acting aspirations back then (I am a freelance writer today). And I have never forgotten his generosity, wisdom, and graciousness to me – someone he would never meet in person. I love stopping by whenever I can, to donate theatre books, costume pieces, and just sniff around who's doing what. Perfect venue to see Chris Botti in concert. I was in Orchestra Row G, and had a wonderful view of the stage. The architecture is attractive, the seats are comfy (even if you aren’t the smallest person), the acoustics are excellent, and the ushers are friendly and helpful. Parking is a challenge for anyone not able to walk up and down slopes, especially since they are not running the shuttles from the garage the theatre at this time. I was fortunate to find a space in front of the library, which had the bonus of being free. There are places nearby to eat, and it’s a pleasant town for a stroll before or after an event.Karla Trout

In 1926 the State Theater was established as a vaudeville theater. It has a seating capacity over 1500. The resident ghost, "Fred" is claimed to be J. Fred Osterstock who managed the theater at one time. Feature shows include such known artists as Engelbert Humperdinck, Alton Brown, Kenny G, Blue Man Group and Ringo Starr. Get tickets early because they sell out quickly. Parking is available at 2 garages. If you are lucky you may find a spot on the street. A beautiful historic theater that was transformed from the Northampton National Bank in 1910. The 500 seat theater was a Vaudeville Theater as well as a movie theater. The wide screen installed in 1953 is still in use today! The 1990 restoration was modeled after the Davanzanti Palace in Florence ,Italy..absolutely beautiful.A must to experience !!Jeanne Remmel

At a glance I thought this was a great organization. However the way the run their billing is horrible. There will be times throughout the year where they cancel class and you still pay. If you try and withdraw not within their time frame you could end up with a hefty bill even if your child isn't attending. This is an amazing school. Its presence is desperately needed since it is one of so few Jesus centered dance and theatre schools available in the area. The director and staff are always approachable. Our daughter is new to Lehigh Christian Academy this year, and our family couldn’t have felt more welcome and treated like we’ve been here for years from the moment we walked in the door. Ok this is not Broadway but it is a very reasonably priced and fun place to visit. The portions are adequate and presented well. We saw Gameshow and enjoyed the crowd interaction. A 3 hour dinner and show was well worth the trip to Allentown The most impressive part was the attentiveness of the staff. They truly cared and they were there at every turn The food was good. We brought our own beverage since alcohol was not served. We are looking forward to going back in November. Kid-friendliness: I would not suggest taking kids to the Gameshow. We went out for date night and we had a great time. The whole experience from ordering tickets to leaving the show was nice and easy. The show was good as well. (Why do fools fall in love) Dinner was reasonably priced (a la cart) and everything we had was very tasty. Pines is BYOB and they do their best to make you feel welcomed. They have a season ticket option and honestly it is something that I am really considering. Be ready to lock yourself at least 2.5-3 hrs. (Dinner and theater together) But honestly Its worth it. I recently saw the Play GAME SHOW and was extremely happy 2 be picked as a stage contestant. I love Trivia and had the time of my life trying to answer my questions plus the other rounds over the course of the night. We had the Pineapple Chicken and then shared the dessert Trio. All the actors were great but I especially enjoyed the warm up man and show host. Glad to see the bubbly Hostess who I remembered from being there before COVID. hope to catch another play in the near future. My daughter started with Image at the age of 5 and we have been with them now for 3 years. We started because we wanted to get her acclimated to other kids and raise her confidence level before starting school. She really enjoyed the classes and I saw something spark in her when it came time for modeling and acting. Soon after the classes ended she booked her first shoot and then a year later came a role for a film. She has gone on countless auditions and many we didn’t land, but that’s ok. I sign up with Image that was about 10 years ago.I had one booking and it was great. I learn in their classes about modeling, acting.Like I said I had one booking and a few auditions but didn't go any where.I would call them 2 to 3 times a week to see if any jobs were open for me. I think they could have push more to get you auditions.After a while I stop calling and got out of the business completely.One thing I do have to say Chad had a couple of sessions with me and he really was very honest about their is no guaranteed that you will get a booking every week.I had one booking and within 3 days I got a check from Image. This just my opinion it is not a easy business It might take years for anybody to really make a career of this business.EasyFlipping

At age 52 John Robert Powers Director Mindy Sills and her Staff trained me so successfully that I am writing this review from New York! I’m here with about 300 Casting Directors, Agents, and Managers at the International Models and Talent Agency 2019 (IMTA) convention! For 4 days this has been a non-stop experience with with trainings, meetings, and interviews with industry professionals. Even though most of the people were tall, young, and breathtakingly beautiful, with my training I was still confident enough to get several call backs! Even at a world class level! My husband and I come to this theatre several times a year. The show 1776 was wonderful and now we are going to see a Christmas Story. We have never been disappointed with the entertainment and can't wait for the next theatre season. The town of Media has a main street that provides a variety of restaurants and shops. It has a cozy home town old fashion feel with tons of events through out the year. So if you want to spend a really nice day do the theatre and the experience the town. I'm very unhappy that I was not able to cancel tickets that I had previously purchased a week prior. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I could not use them. My issue is that on their website where you order the tickets, it mentions nothing about "no refunds available". You have to deeply navigate through their website to find that information. I when here with my daughter for the film festival. It a nice theater. The people were a very nice. They were selling T-shirts for 20 dollars. There was a tolley stop was very close. The 101 right in front the door. It was hard to find parking. The lot was full. We parked up the street. The neighbor was very safe.Calvina Gadson

This was truly one of the WORST experiences of my life. I scheduled a photo-shoot for headshots and arrived 15 minutes early. I wasn't even greeted with a "Hello". The owner, Laurie, told me "Let's go" and rushed me into a dressing room. As I was laying out my outfit options and explaining what I was thinking for the looks, she tells me "Yeah honestly just dump everything on the floor we have to hurry." She was in SUCH a rush and made me feel like such a burden. As I was getting my hair and makeup done, she kept rushing the makeup artist. Since the poor artist was rushing, my look was not professional in the slightest. It was sloppy. This was not the artists fault, as I've seen her former work and she's actually very talented. After the third time Laurie told the makeup artist to hurry I said something along the lines of "Are you sure we should rush? I just want to make sure these come out well." which Laurie replied with "Well, it's actually not always all about you so you're going to have to get used to that." Technically, it SHOULD have been all about me because I was the only client in the studio. Then, as I was showing her a look she picked out for me, she told me "That's fine, just suck in that pouch." (talking about my lower stomach fat). I paid $500 for THIS treatment??? To make matters worse, as I was posing and doing everything the photographer was asking me to do, Laurie chimes in with "You know, you're not a super model so stop trying to pose like one." I could not BELIEVE what I was hearing from this woman. I have never been talked to so horribly. Because of this experience, I didn't go out for days afterwards because she made me feel so awful about myself. DO NOT. GO. HERE! Laurie is vicious. She also made her workers miserable and it showed!!!!Angelina Reilly

So my family friend was going to give me a ride today but something came up with her medically and I called to reschedule but the woman who answered started saying “is this how it’s gonna be because it’s a problem our jobs are spread out and if we bring you in and want to work with you and you have to rely on other people for transportation It’s a problem. are you going to bring someone to jobs if you have to bring someone to an interview? I think you should wait till you have your own transportation and submit again in a couple of months I don’t think you’re ready yet or confident enough”. She said it very rudely, did not let me explain and I’m not happy!!!! I DO have my own car, I do NOT rely on others for transportation. My family friend comes with me to these interviews and wanted to come to the screen test today to make sure I receive the information correctly and that I do not agree to something I should not agree to because she cares about me and I can be gullible and naive. I walked in to that place with all i had and all the confidence in the world. An they said no. The lady said that they dont do petite girls in this world anymore. An she said i didn’t have enough confidence to be a model. But she admires my hair and my beautiful skin. After all that she still made me pay the $35 fee. Even though i didn’t make it in. The lady that interviewed me was really rude. I really was hoping i was gonna make it in. An as she was taking my card to pay the fee i overheard her sayin how i wont make it in this industry and how i wont be coming back. To be let down like that is real heartbreaking. The Swain School has been great. My son's PreSchool teachers do an incredible job of balancing being nice, showing love and compassion, and teaching respect and independence. The administration staff from Dr. Schuster, all the support staff, school nurse and all the teachers are wonderful and most importantly they care about and love the students.
