20 Best Acting Programs In Albany, NY (2022 Updated)

Simply put, the 4 years I spent at The College of Saint Rose were the best 4 years of my life. I attended the Accepted Students Day the Spring before I matriculated and fell in love. The campus was beautiful, everyone was friendly and helpful. I left with every question answered and very at ease about where I would be spending the next 4 years. Saint Rose provided me with an opportunity to come out of my shell. I was the typical shy student. I had my group of friends and I stuck to them. I didn't participate in any campus activities, my days consisted of going to class and back to my room. At the beginning of my second year, I knew I wanted to make a change, I wanted to experience all Saint Rose had to offer. I became a mentor, and then a resistant assistant, joined clubs, and volunteered. I did it all. I became a leader on campus all while balancing my school work and employment. The resources are unlimited at Saint Rose, you just have to reach out. Class sizes are small which is perfect for those of us who like to get to know our professors. As a biology major, I found my classes to be challenging but not impossible and learning was fun. When you have professors who are passionate about their field it makes you passionate to learn and that is what you will find when you come to Saint Rose. With the help of one of my professors, I was able to secure a summer research internship at Albany Medical College. My time spent here was very productive. I was able to do things I never envisioned myself doing and really break out of my comfort zone. The College of Saint Rose helped me develop friendships and skills of a lifetime.Kajanna McKenzie

When I transferred to Saint Rose, I knew that this place would become my second home. I can't stress enough how transfer friendly the college is. I had such wonderful help from Transfer Admissions, Financial Aid, Registrar and the Communications department throughout the transfer process. They included my mom as well and answered any questions she had. While attending Saint Rose, I had some incredible opportunities that you can only get from Saint Rose. I was elected President for Tau Sigma National Honor Society which allowed me to go to Chicago and San Antonio for their leadership conference. I got to go on several trips including the Hearst Tower in NYC, Yankee Stadium, Bronx Zoo and to local media outlets such as Time Warner Cable News. I also was a staff writer/news editor for The Chronicle, the weekly student newspaper. But most importantly, Saint Rose prepared me for my two internships/part time job during my senior year and current full time job in the news industry. The professors in the Communications department helped me grow not only as a journalist but as a person. They pushed me to think outside the box and ask the tough questions. Without such a wonderful and supportive COMmunity, I wouldn't be where I am today. I am so grateful the wonderful education I received while at Saint Rose, and for all the wonderful friendships that I formed while attending.Lauren Sears

I feel like one star would be harsh, but three stars would be too nice. My experience with Saint Rose is that it is, like many colleges in this country: overpriced. That is a common complaint with all colleges, but it's more than that. I think the value of the education you get there doesn't really match what you are/will be (if you are taking loans) paying for. I feel the education at Saint Rose is not preparing the younger generation to enter the workforce or the real world. The school boasts great academics and don't get me wrong, some classes have been very objective based and informative. However, some classes made me feel like I was still in high school/the public education system. As in, 1) They aren't that challenging, 2) They don't teach me skills and knowledge that I'll need in the future and 3) It feels like some of the classes had a larger agenda to them (trying to convince students rather than teach). Besides the academics, the campus is nice. Personally, Albany, NY is not my cup of tea but for someone coming from the NYC area (which there's a lot at SR), it might be nicer to be in a much smaller city. Besides that, I think most adults see college campuses kind of deteriorating in terms of the academics and culture. I don't need to go into details about that. I think many adults and people in the workforce understand what I mean though.Idaho Wumbo

To all the high school freshman posting reviews and rating AMDA 5 stars stop. You do not go there. Do not give it a bigger head than it already has. Attended in 2013-2014 would have been one star if it weren't for some (a few) wonderful teachers. (Stacy Lee, Kathy, Jeff, Tim,and Ray thank you) I am posting this review because they just posted an instagram post about 13 reasons why. They said check this out help is available. Would have been nice if that was ACTUALLY TRUE. However, if you have any sort of mental health problems you are told to grow up! (By teachers AND THE DAMN COUNSELOR) you are told stories of how the show must go on fake it til you make it. If you cannot stop crying you are weak, and theater is just a hobby for you. The teachers name drop and make you feel bad about yourself for not being Jason Derulo.The only person who helped me get help was my acting teacher (god bless him), who sent me to the counselor who told me I was acting like a child and that I need to prioritize. "If this isn't for you you don't have to be here" I told him this is the most depressed I've ever been. No offer to find therapy near me. No weekly meetings. No follow up visit. He suggested I find a new dream. So I did but now I'm 25,000 dollars in debt after 9 of the worst months of my life. Like others have said AMDA is what you make it but if you have any sort of mental health issues don't count on getting any help. PS. The dorms have a large scary roach problem, pretty sure it used to be a mental hospital (how fitting) PPS. I can acknowledge that I learned a good deal in my acting and VPS classes. I joined AMDA NYC back in 2021 Fall. This school has changed my life. Incredible staffing who are all working professionals within the acting world and all are incredibly motivated, fun and inspiring. My time at this school has been nothing but positive thus far and, the school continues to get better and better. I have done my own reading into reviews and the bad reviews have definitely changed. I have seen things change here, I have seen things become progressively better for the students here at AMDA. AMDA has become much more of a supporting and safe environment for not just me but for everybody who needs it. You certainly learn a lot here, develop great connections with your teachers and get plenty of opportunities out here. I myself, am certainly glad that I chose this school. My daughter just graduated in Sept 2017 from NYC in dance. She had a very positive experience from start to finish! Starting with Elliott Kerr, Assistant Director of Admissions. Elliott did a nice job of answering all our questions and helping get all our paperwork completed. Our daughter loved all her teachers and has said through out her program, "this is the right school for me." My experience at the Barrow Group has truly helped me not to give up as an actor. After moving to NYC in 2009, my very talented friend recommended that I take classes at The Barrow Group. I trusted his recommendation because he was very knowledgable about the class options in the city. I am so thankful that I found the Barrow Group!! I really missed my theatre community from Graduate School and the Barrow Group became my NYC home base. I have taken four classes with Lee Brock and I have learned so much from her. She helped me go back to the beginning…back to those years before all of the training…Lee helped me go back to the 'Story.' She helped me to focus on what truly matters…telling the story! The teaching style of the Barrow Group is extremely accessible to actors. You can get a feel for the teachings style by reading Seth Barrish's book "An Actor's Companion: 99 Bit of Craft." I am starting my fourth class tomorrow. Obviously, I love this place. The teachers are friendly, down to earth, and REALLY know their stuff. It really is amazing, the learning curve, and how much you do learn during just one class, let alone three. The teaching methods are so great, it makes you almost feel like what you have learned should have been common sense. I've attended one of their shows (so far), and it was really an inspiring experience, with just superb acting. An extraordinary theatre company and school. I had studied for many years with some of the best and most highly regarded teachers in the acting community but it wasn't until I found the Barrow Group that I felt I became a good actor. Seth Barrish has created an astoundingly simple approach to the work that makes acting fun again. And truthful and real. He and his co-artistic director Lee Brock have created a wonderful home for some of the most passionate and talented artists I have ever had the privilege of working with. I took the 1-year online screenwriting course. In theory it sounded perfect for me, since I wasn't in a position to go to school full-time. I had high hopes. On the positive side, I did learn the basic principles of screenwriting. Also, I finished a first draft of a film script, which was pretty cool. The discipline of meeting weekly to report on my progress helped me achieve my goal. I wish my review could end there, on a positive note. But on the negative side, I found the instructor extremely rude to anyone who didn't agree with their opinions 100%. The person often ridiculed students and dismissed their contributions. The surly attitude shut down conversation more than once. I have a Masters degree, and have been a student in several schools as an adult – and I have encountered only a few instructors as abrasive as this person. (That's saying a lot, considering how arrogant many professors are!) Also, the instructor was late to class more than once. To be fair, the person did make it up, by extending the classroom time. Still, when you've arranged for child-care, it's a drag to sit and wait in front of your computer, while your instructor fumbles around, making half-baked excuses why they were late. I have kids at home who play the same tricks in an attempt to evade their responsibilities, I don't need my screenwriting instructor doing the same! Worse yet, the instructor once shared personal information about their family of origin that was unnecessary to the classroom context. (We paid a hefty tuition fee to learn screenwriting skills, not to hear sad facts about this person's childhood. Hey, we all have a few sad memories about childhood! Get over it! An online classroom is not the place for a paid instructor to share personal memories). I would have been more sympathetic to their plight if they had been a nice human being from the beginning. They weren't nice, so I'm not sympathetic. Finally, the instructor went back on a promise they had made to me during a classroom session. Another student hadn't come to the online class, and we were scheduled to read their script. So I volunteered to submit my rough draft – with the understanding that I could re-submit my script once it was finished, for another classroom review. The instructor agreed to those terms – but went back on their agreement a few weeks later. When I questioned the instructor about it, my concern was dismissed. So, I copied the transcribed conversation in which the instructor made the promise. They replied that they were way too busy to give each student individual attention! (Then why make the promise in the first place?). My poor rating is entirely based on the habitually unprofessional conduct of the instructor. The actual course content was very, very good. Had someone else – with a good work ethic, a sense of punctuality, and a commitment to personal and professional integrity – taught the course, then I would have given NYFA a perfect score. So, although I'm indebted to NYFA for helping me acquire basic screenwriting skills, and giving me the opportunity to complete a rough draft, I found the personal conduct of the instructor a very serious obstacle to the learning experience. My suggestion to anyone who wants to enroll in an online screenwriting course: – Make sure the educational institution has a professional code of conduct – Make sure the school holds their instructors to that code If you can't afford the cost of tuition: – Buy a good book on screenwriting. It will give you the exact same info about skills that this course provided, at a fraction of the cost – Enroll in a writing class at your local community center, where you can find like-minded people who will hold you accountable as you write your next project -Keep writing! Don't give up. After a number of years, I continue to uphold my opinion of the school.Robert Widdowson

The (limited) number of students that actually care is the only reason this school gets 2 stars. I attended the Masters Cinematography program in Los Angeles, and I am here to tell you that for that program- I can't speak to the others with as much in depth knowledge- the school is a joke, and serves to print money for itself. I was to attend for two accelerated semesters, and during the first, I found work doing what I was going to school to study and basically checked out mentally. When time came for my second semester, I had done very little for my classes, and went to our instructor to tell him I was leaving. The part that confused me was when he said that I was one of the best students in class, which made me laugh, as I had been working on set for the proceeding two months, hadn't attended class, or screened any projects for the class. I pointed out these facts to him, went to the bursers office with my story, and within 5 minutes I was holding a check for 40 thousand dollars: a complete refund of my tuition for both the previous semester, and the upcoming semester. My question is this: if they don't know they are scamming all their pupils, why were they so eager to hand over so much money and bid me farewell? Seems like an admission of guilt, and an effort (which admittedly worked) to prevent me from commenting on my experience. All you need to do is look at the top 5 most common jobs for degree holders from NYFA. The most common is elementary school teacher. The rate of alumni body working in thier field of study is a jawdropping .008%. Yea. Not worth it. Do yourself a favor, and watch all the films on AFI 100 greatest films list, then learn how blender and composition work, buy yourself a camera, and make a film.Nick Frazier

Did a filmmaking workshop. Loved some teachers and learned a lot, but the administration its just been awful. Since my first day. When I arrived due to a ridiculous covid protocol that I haven't been informed, I couldn't attend my first day of classes. I lost many hours and they just left me outside the door even though I crossed the world to get to nyc. And now, I finished the workshop four months ago and still haven't get my diploma. I keep writing to them but nothing gets done and it just keeps wasting my time. I paid around 5 thousand dollars to take that workshop and I just can't believe I don't have the proof of the classes I took.Pili Martínez

This school is a little gem for those wishing to actually train in the art of acting. The staff is excellent – nurturing and knowledgeable, very much experts in their fields who have honed their skills over many years. The Playhouse fosters a inclusive community of creative individuals who work together to "live truthfully under imaginary circumstances". One of the last great acting schools that is still independent from/not affiliated with any particular college, the Playhouse allows all ages and levels to train here and be assured of receiving a true education in acting. I can't believe how naive I was years ago when I went here for singing class. I was so sad because I never progressed and the teachers did not help me at all- they would only answer questions I directly asked, not offer any new information. Overall, the education AND experience you will get at this school is minimal. Like, 95% less than I expected, and I will tell you why. When I came to class, the student body was mostly foreigners, from countries I never really heard of. It kind of looked like 90 day fiance in there. Some of the foreigners were even in their 40s and over, and came to class here even though they already had established careers in their country of origin. Which I thought was a bit odd, but I was 18, there was a lot I did not know about the world. This was so deleterious because out of a class of 25 people, you would find maybe 3 that took the class seriously and seemed like they practiced. Often a student would get up and sing a song, very badly like they didn't care at all, with the lyrics on the sheet right in front of them- like at a karaoke bar. If you want to get better, you get around people that are better than you, or that work really hard- and at this class a serious student is a rare rose. Let me tell you why I point this out. You can go on youtube right now and look up the show "UK Border Force." It's a show about UK airport immigration. Boy, did this naive American learn a whole lot from that show! Apparently, in Britain this information is well-known, but in America's politically correct atmosphere, this very important information is hidden. To come to America legally, someone needs a visa. The F-1 student visa is for a full-time student coming to America to learn a trade, often that is not offered in the student's country of origin. Are acting lessons and singing lessons such a specialized skill that an unaccredited 'acting school' would be granted the F-1 student visa program? For medical school or a school like Juliard I would understand- but a cheap little acting studio in Chealsea, in a small building, with no professors, that charges $300 for an unaccredited class? Does that sound right to you? This school is nothing more than a VISA MILL. This is why so many older people came here as "student." This is basically a phony college that can get someone a visa for cheap. Of course it's in New York- what an easy way to get to America, overstay the visa (as most do) or scoot over to Long Island to squat in a sanctuary city. Wow. I can't believe I didn't notice this before. I went for an education and boy did I get one- just not in singing.Chi Chi

Where to start? Hb Studio was and is the only reason I temporarly moved to New York. The Variety of different acting teachers, classes and workshops spoke for itself when I researched Hb Studio back in Germany. Both my initial reachout and the continous support of the international office were suggesting a warm welcome. And the actual arrival went exactly as I hoped; The staff is openminded and very helpful. They even assisted me with non-school-related problems which really helped me put my feet on the ground. That kind of service become rare these days! The same goes for the 9 different teachers that I am able to study with. While being supportive and understanding they push every student individually to new limits. Beside different techniques and approaches of the teachers I also learned a lot about myself which already directly influenced my acting. The classes are reasonably sized and allow propper, structured exercises aswell as a trustful, troupe/ensemble-like atmosphere. The whole community is diverse, welcoming, understanding and supporting through all instances. From the comilitones over the staff to the teachers, I felt accepted and welcomed throughout my whole term. Being a future Alumni makes me both proud and thankful. I have studied playwriting for years and have had a number of productions. While at HB, I valued studying alongside so many talented, supportive playwrights. However, after writing several drafts of a play, I was denied an in-class reading, something granted to every student who follows the guidelines. Also, when the instructor initiated "the basement series," she asked every student but me to submit one of their plays. Even the students questioned the omission. The toxic atmosphere the instructor created caused her "pet" to address an email to "the playwrights," but to address me separately; he did so to suggest that I am not a playwright. As the tuition is quite high, no student at HB should encounter anything less than a professional environment. No one has time for petty people.Irwin Nayman

Learn from the best. When I was 19 years old, I was accepted to the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute. It was the highlight of my life at the time. The great teachers back then were Harv Dean and David Gideon. I went to school here part time for 9 months to learn acting at its very basic. If you can afford going to the school and want to learn acting from the aspect of the instrument, then I highly recommend going here. The most important thing I learned from this school, is that even if you attend the classes and do your scene work, you need to be out pounding the pavement and looking for work in the industry, an agent and possibly a manager. I would not call the school glamorous but it does show great pride and respect for people who walks through their doors. If you are serious about acting and show business, this is the place to be. Although I am old enough to be the GRANDmother of most of the students, I had the honor to chat with Lee Strasberg himself, one morning, years ago. He spent nearly a half hour on the phone with me – a total stranger. I had acting aspirations back then (I am a freelance writer today). And I have never forgotten his generosity, wisdom, and graciousness to me – someone he would never meet in person. I love stopping by whenever I can, to donate theatre books, costume pieces, and just sniff around who's doing what. Came here for a Ryan Montbleau show the other day and was pleasantly surprised. The venue is nice and cozy, as you might expect a theater to be, which made the show very fun and intimate. For the price of a general admission ticket, you can be right in front of the stage – comparable to being in the pit of a bigger amphitheater. If there’s something going on here that you’re interested, would definitely recommend checking it out!Andrew Schutt

First time going. It was a bit confusing. My friend got the tickets and we found the elevator entrance, took the elevator up to the Orchestra, apparently we were supposed to go to the box office first to have something scanned. *Bright Star* on stage, a lovely, heartfelt musical … the lead had a stunning voice, and some great voices accompanying. The band was staged on the stage, and interplayed well. Attractive venue. Horrible sound. I've been there for a couple shows over the years (since 2005), and half of those times the sound was muddy and even muffled. The one that sticks out in my memory was Elvis Costello. I'm not a sound engineer, so I can't offer an explanation why the sound was bad. I will say I've been to many shows at other venues in the Northeast, and I can say that the Palace's sound ranks as among the worst.Daniel Nester

We went for a comedy show. The theater is so beautiful. Get there earlier for on street (free) parking. We grabbed dinner then went to the show and parked across the street from the palace. If you happen to be a curvier person, the seats are old school…so I was very close to the stranger that was sitting next to me. It truly is a beautiful theater. Great restored performance hall. It's always cool going to old venues, the combination of great acoustics and building detail not made or seen very often anymore. Just be aware there isn't an elevator so seats above ground level might be hard to get to for some.Rob

I'm a new actor who started at T. Schreiber a year ago and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I was nervous about getting into acting because you hear about how some teachers break their students down but as a beginner, that type of instruction can be discouraging. I started with the Beginning Saturday Program with Pam Scott. I loved it because she's a very nurturing and encouraging teacher who imparts tons of knowledge and skills to her students in every class. You'll learn a lot and feel very safe taking risks. I've also had the opportunity to be taught by Bob Verlaque and Susan Pilar who substituted a few of my Scene Study classes when Pam couldn't make it and they were amazing as well. As you continue, you may find that you need a different type of instruction. The teachers here encourage you to do so. Not just within T. Schreiber but outside of it. Although I will probably try classes outside of T. Schreiber, I really love the faculty here and they will most likely become a mainstay in my life.C Banks

I've been studying at T Schreiber Studio on and off since 2014. I've explored studios and teachers all over New York City and have truly never found a teacher that I've connected with or who has made as big of an impact on my career as Peter Jensen. I think I would genuinely credit Peter with teaching me how to act and with teaching me to love acting. There is no place I love in NY more than his scene study class. He is the most honest, compassionate and caring teacher that there is. His deep understanding of the craft makes it easy for him to communicate with actors on a level that you rarely see from acting teachers. The class always feels like a judgement free zone where we, as actors, are encouraged to explore, be playful and grow. I can't wait to go back in person!Amanda Bear

If you're willing, this studio is equipped with everything you need to become a great actor. T. Schreiber has that rare combination in acting teachers of being immensity knowledgeable, compassionate, intuitive, and understanding. He doesn't teach any one method, but rather is versed in all of the major American styles of modern acting and leads you through exercises to figure out which ones resonate most in your individual process. It is a safe environment where you are free to discover and explore and take risks. Our dog is a big boy, around 75-80 lbs. He also has a lot of anxiety, for which he takes medication, however he certainly requires extra TLC. He is not always easy to handle! But Camp Bow Wow has totally exceeded our expectations. The interview process was thorough and honest and we are completely convinced that the dogs who “pass” are behaviorally appropriate for camp and up-to-date on immunizations etc. My lovely wife is a veterinarian herself and she is impressed, for what it’s worth. The employees are always so sweet with Eli, even when he’s being silly. Recently he was scared by a loud banging noise outside as I led him out after picking him up. He scuttled back inside and was frozen in front of the desk 🙁 I knew the employees were trying to “tuck in” the dogs boarding that night soon, and probably didn’t have extra time to deal with our little nut, but a young woman whose name I did not catch did a *perfect* job patiently leading him back outside with treats, after I failed in my initial efforts to do the same. We have a blast watching Eli playing with other campers on the webcams too, and they are generally easy to access from their app and online. The camp counselors and staff are all so friendly and helpful and provide any information you need. The entire structure of their business is all about pups, and makes you feel at ease leaving your babies. Lots of play, so the dogs barely know you’re gone. They safely have the dogs wait after feedings to play. Activities outside, water in the play yards, and the best of all, you can watch your pup play for minutes or hours!!! The entire place was filthy. Most dogs kept in “suits” but they were pitch black and the dogs cant see in or not. Also the little dogs are Able to roam outside freely with no supervision and a hawk will def scoop one of them up. Another thing is the owner pays their workers 3 dollars under minimum wage. Which is illegal and i plan to go to NYS LABOR. do not take your dogs here.CJ Godfrey

The sets and costumes were wonderful in the show we attended. We opted for reserved seating, at $30a chair. I was disappointed in the seating. The chairs are those plastic backyard kind, that are very uncomfortable. The chairs were set much to close to one another, and I felt the price was to high. I understand they rely heavily on donations and these types of seating, but feel they could have done better. That being said, the actors were fantastic! As was the music. We enjoyed some very powerful voices! I bought a tee shirt in support of the troops, and will come again for the next play. However, I plan to bring my own chair, and leave a donation.I do recommend coming down to see a play in the park. It’s a fun and different way to spend a weeknight.Teresa M. Husson

Always a nice experience no matter the program. I free seating is the way to go. You must get there an hour early to set up your chair. Some prefer earlier and bring food and beverages. There is also a concession stand with beverages and lite fare. There is paid seating and table seating that is also very reasonable. I just like to have my own comfy chair. So much fun and so accommodating for an outdoor event. Not crowded at all and bathrooms were clean as well as the park. The play was entertaining and funny. All the actors and singers were amazing! They truly showed great professionalism when ambulance showed up for a person in the crowd. Absolutely wonderful! My daughter has been with the school for 9 years, taking piano and voice lessons. I have seen first hand the dedication of the teachers and their personal investment into the growth of my child’s skills as an artist, going above and beyond just the classes! My daughter been recognized for her music & singing at the State & National level and a major credit goes the school and Ms. Collette and Mr. Marshall. I've been taking lessons over a year now and the teachers are very experienced in teaching even complete beginners, yet they're able to get as technical as the student desires. I like knowing the musical theory and intricacies behind what I'm doing and teachers are always willing to go into it if the student is interested. I've been able to make excellent progress in my studies. Collete is able to fine tune lessons to match your learning style and able to help you succeed in your goals. She's able to do all sorts of genres – from musical, rock, pop, jazz, folk, opera, etc. I have very high standards and expectations and this studio succeeds them. As a former student, my experience here was not what I expected, and one I would choose to do again. It saddens me to write this because there was so much potential for this program to be great and I was truly excited when I first joined. Unfortunately there were many bumps in the road during my time at CM, one of which was the frequent turnover of staff that resulted in a lack of consistency and stability in the promised goals for our class. I made many friends there, several of whom I'm still in contact with and I will always be glad to have met them, but I wish it had been in a better environment.E Cook

The team at Drama Kids is incredible, and I can't recommend their program highly enough. We were lucky enough to secure a spot for our 5-year old at the summer musical theatre camp, and it was by far her favorite two weeks of summer. The care and attention that each staff member and TA shows the children is amazing. They are filled with energy and enthusiasm and it's contagious. Everyone looked so happy to be there, and my daughter is still singing and dancing the show's songs for anyone and everyone who will listen. We didn't hesitate to sign her up for the fall session so she can continue to explore her creativity. This was my daughter's first year with Drama Kids and I am so happy we enrolled her in the program. She started 6 weeks into the fall session, and she couldn't have felt more welcomed and at ease while getting up to speed. The instructors and assistants are fantastic! They have boundless enthusiasm and their support is outstanding. My daughter’s eyes lit up when she found out the spring semester would close with a performance at The Egg. My daughter is going on her forth years with Drama Kids, and she has loved every year. Not only does she look forward to what class brings each week, but also the big play the perform at the end. I think these classes have brought her out of her shell, and made her more well-rounded. As a seasoned avid theatre-goer, mainly in NYC, I have been so pleased, so inspired by the theatrical productions presented by Voice Theatre in Woodstock, NY. Beginning with Thornton Wilder's "Skin of our Teeth" in 2017, which was so relevant, such a night of theatre; to Arthur Miller's "All My Sons" in 2018, easily as professional as any off-Broadway play I've seen in NYC, a defining moment in American theatre, everyone present in the theatre spellbound, caught up in the predicament of the human condition; to Noel Coward's "Blithe Spirit" in 2019, done in the spirit of Woodstock, but with Coward's keen and satiric intelligence, the acting so good; and even Wilder's "Our Town" on Zoom this year, which held me transfixed. In every production Artistic Director and director Shauna Kanter has created a vivid atmosphere, inspired the actors to the highest level of performance, presenting true theatrical experiences to largely sold-out audiences. This is a distinctive theatre company which stages productions in NYC and Woodstock that are always entertaining, thought-provoking and timely, with a history that includes national and international productions and a mix of classic and contemporary, cutting-edge plays. In artistic director Shauna Kanter’s very able hands, Voice Theatre’s productions invariably speak to what is happening in the world around us and keeps art alive and vital. The actors are excellent. Some of my favorite productions include Birds on a Wire (written and directed by Shauna Kanter), Our Country’s Good and All My Sons (which I thought was significantly better than the recent Broadway production). I look forward to more! An added bonus is that Voice Theatre is very community-minded, promoting educational initiatives and the work of organizations in the local community that help those in need and marginalized people.Pedro Reyes

As an emerging director it has been a privilege to play with a creative community such as VOICETheatre. With this group I have had several opportunities to develop my skills and even stretch my wings, particularly as an assistant director for the company's most recent production, Birds on a Wire, which was performed in NYC and Woodstock, NY (Byrdcliffe Theater). The opportunity to work on a new American play that is overwhelmingly relevant, as a young artist no less, was an extraordinary experience. VOICETheatre is an authentic non-profit theatre organization in every positive sense. A community of dedicated artists who present quality plays for an international audience. More importantly, VOICETheatre is a growing haven for both the flourishing artists that it cultivates and the vigorous public that it incorporates. I never expected coming into a studio where the staff is just as invested as you are about the craft. Day one James Price gave me goosebumps throughout the ENTIRE class. He encompasses what an incredible storyteller can be. I’m captivated from beginning to end of class. The amount of value I have received (from day one!!!) will serve me throughout my entire career. It’s really hard for creatives to find a community especially one that makes you better! The Acting Studio is one you can trust. Nice quaint place very clean staff is really friendly but that's not the best part. I really wasn't sure what to expect when I got in. The prices of drinks and snakes were not at all what expected I mean they were reasonable. My next thought was oh boy what did I get me self in for. I was blown away what great show the actors were great witty and on point. My wife and I had a great time and we are definitely going back. Not because it was not hard on the wallet but it was really good show. Can't wait to check out the other shows. Maybe even join one of there very cool workshops. Any one who wants to check something different out of the ordinary this is the place for you!! This post will not do the staff and actors any real justice. MOPCO is a great little theatre providing a wonderful and unique experience. It's staff, cast, and crew were incredibly welcoming and professional, and their performance was hilarious. We were laughing from start to finish. This is a great place for anyone who likes live performances and the arts and to support local business. This is a hidden gem of the Capital Region and it's highly, highly recommended as part of a night on the town. A+++++Eric Martell

Nice place. I almost died living across the street at number 13 at the illegal boarding house. Stathis Pappas is a murderer. And the police department victimizes people. We only moved here less than a year ago and finally got to see a show at ACT. We saw The Addams Family and it was fantastic! Fun production, great cast members. You can tell they put a lot of heart into it all. I would highly recommend making your way here to see a show or stopping by on the way through. Small-town theaters are a gem! We went to Clue last night for my wife's birthday. It was a great show. I usually prefer musicals because they seem to have more choreography and action but this play was energetic, funny and entertaining. It is so great to have live entertainment in town. ACT is the best community theater in the mid-wilamette Valley. The people are talented, kind, and inclusive. Most of the shows are excellent and the sets are brilliant. It's a small theater, so it's smart to get tickets early. During Covid they've been closed to remodel, but they expect to open up again in September.Melody Murphy Kirk

Kiss me Kate was wonderful! We went on Thursday July 21. It was very hot out. We were checked on the bus by a girl to make sure we were vaccinated. We had already been checked when we embarked by our group leader. We had to were our masks in the theater the whole time. At intermission we went to the bathrooms which did not flush. Gross. The play was great but the conditions were LESS than desirable!Geri Schultz

This small theater is about a half hr South from Albany. The cast has talented performers. There is a small concession stand and a nice patio. I probably wouldn't come here again because it being so far, but I do reccomend experiencing it.Jana
