9 Best Absn Programs In Wichita, KS (2022 Updated)

Our sons difficult illness began with COVID-19 in late September 2020. From that illness he had a major stroke on October 7th, 2020 and was transported to a hospital in Wichita, Kansas. After spending two months there it was determined that he should be ready for rehabilitation. He was transferred to a facility in Omaha, NE. After almost four months he still was not weaned from the ventilator and it was then that Select Specialty Hospital was consulted and they were willing to work with our son on the weaning process. We learned that Select had a good history in that area. We were given hope. He arrived at Select Specialty hospital Wichita April 3rd, 2021. His next option if not successful with the weaning process, was to be in a nursing home 3 hours away from where we lived for the rest of his life. He was 39 years old at the time. While at Select, our son was cared for in many positive ways and because of it he was able to wean from the Ventilator and left Select Hospital on July 18th, 2021. We will always be grateful that they were willing to take the chance in admitting him. We greatly appreciate the efforts of all the staffing the respiratory staff, as well as the various therapy groups and nursing personnel.Roger Smith

Sub par care of patients by nurses and lazy, incompetent case managers. My father was transferred from St Francis' care, where he was well cared for, to Select and the difference has proven to be a significant downgrade. Select nurses sitting at the nurses station playing on their personal phones (facetiming, playing games, surfing the net) while they ignore the call button. I've been up there for hours waiting while no nurse comes into the room to clear my father's trach blockages even after I ask. This is particularly prevalent on the weekends. I should have have to ask over to get someone to help him. While I encountered a couple of nice people as a whole, this place is woefully mismanaged and not a place you want your loved one in. Addition to my prior post in April 2021. After speaking with a coworker whose mother was in a Select facility in KC, it appears they experienced terrible care for their mother, so poor care seems to be a common theme for these facilities.Sheila Berry

I spent a couple months in your facility and found the care to be excellent, this facility saved my life. The nurses went above and beyond, they were always professional, kind and especially compassionate. I would highly recommend the floor staff with 5 stars. The food was always great as well. With that being said, the admission process needs some attention- my mother was admitted yesterday and spent over 8 hrs in the waiting room with a doctors order to admit. Once she got to her room at 3am, she began to experience the same compassionate care I received.Todd Hook

I have had the pleasure of a close association with this Community College for nine years from a different prospective. I provide housing exclusively to male students attending here and have been blessed with having students from all areas of study live at my home. Over the years, if there has ever been a problem that a student brings to me regarding the school, I would suggest to the student to address the problem to the appropriate professor or adviser/counselor and have always observed the outcome to be handled professionally and to the student's satisfaction. Additionally, this college strives to provide academic excellence as well as providing extensive financial assistance to deserving students. I would strongly recommend any student looking for a wonderful college experience to contact this college and walk around the campus. Talk to other students and visit with an adviser. Butler has endless life enhancing programs! Coming here to this school has been life-changing for me! No place has perfect staff, but almost every instructor and administrator I have encountered has been passionate about their job and helping students. I have been here for a year and a half and am sad that my Butler clock is ticking. I will forever hold onto my memories here. They are always looking for ways to grow and be better for the students. Additionally, it is extremely affordable and there is financial assistance everywhere you look. I suggest Butler for all types of majors and activities, from athletics, to video/sound production, to the fine arts department (which is THE BEST vocal program I can even imagine), Butler is gonna set you up for success and give you many connections for your field of work. 💜Jaedn Cooper

The English 102 Professor on this campus (Victor Chavez) really sucks! I hate to say this but it is the truth. He waited until the last day to grade our assignments, and he did not have enough time to grade our works. I can tell he just randomly pick up some paragraphs to correct our errors because after I read his comments and re-read my paper, I noticed some errors that I made and he did not point out. It IS very obvious errors such as putting "the i" next to each other, which does not even make sense. I would not recommend taking his class AT ALL! VERY SLOW on grading so you do not know your grades until (if you're lucky) the day before the end of the class. I don't know what kind of professor they still have to offer. Out of 10 online classes I've taken, 8 graded slow. Awfully slow.Jennifer Ma

I wish I would have gone somewhere else. It's an overly-priced high school. I was a music education major and attended for four semesters (two years). Tuition is cheaper than most private universities, but the education does not live up to the price. Teachers are too involved with your private life (at least in the fine arts department). The school has no money which is one of the reasons they hired the new president of the school. They increase tuition by about $500-600 every year. Keep in mind that this is a private Christian school, so you will have to take extra religion classes in addition to your general and degree-related classes. Many teachers were fired during my short time attending Friends because the school didn't have the money to pay them. Don't go here just because it looks nice or is a Christian school. Unless you are a Spanish or Zoo Science major, you will receive a far better education choosing a different university. The debt is not worth it.Cassidy Sutton

Not worth the ridiculous cost of debt that will follow you till your grave. Get a job trade, make decent money, and live your dreams to the fullest. Unless your career absolutely requires a degree or you feel the need to go into higher academia don't play the college debt game. Speaking from several that have attended this college and who are still paying for education that did nothing in the workforce! Several I know found nothing with their degree and are doing well without it. Fail to complete your degree? Don't worry Friends will send the nastiest creditors till the end of time after you to remind you of your eternal debt. I rank college loan officers worse than payday loan centers!Philip Nielsen

I am an alumni of Friends and what the previous poster stated was accurate. Even though I relished my time here, looking back, the degree was not worth the money. There are other places in Wichita to get a degree and not be in a mountain of debt. I assure you that the quality is also about the same. I wish more young people realized that they will eventually have to pay it back unless they were lucky enough to get scholarships or parents that paid.Emily Bennet

First and foremost; I’m not some angry dropout, I’m an Alumni. I will highlight on this post all of the issues I have regarding newman. First off, they’ve been sued around 5 times in the last several years, feel free to look up why. furthermore; Their tuition increased 3 times while I was there, they really exemplified what the word catholic means when they increased tuition $1,680 at the height of the pandemic when we switched to fully remote. I can’t imagine why considering teachers would be working far less but I digress. So what does your $16,280 a semester get you at Newman? I’m not too sure, they do not have a job placement program They require an internship for graduation but guess what? They do not coach you on what to do, how to apply, or who to apply too, they can’t even provide a list of firms which utilize newman interns. They very rarely, if it all have ANY job fairs. They over charge everyone yet give student athletes everything free including books, meals, clothes and lodging, while increasing costs on everyone else. You’d think if you’re paying prime money for “prime private” education you’d actually get that right? Wrong, all classes are practically graded online, and all homework is done online as well. Many classes are offered every other semester. If you’re like me, you had to wait ONE YEAR for the next cycle of classes I needed to be offered (sorry to any finance majors.) Hardly anything is offered over summer unless it’s a very basic gen ed. The last issue. I was told by their student accounts dept. to set up “X” amount as a payment plan which would cover all of my summer and last semester of fall classes. I did as they instructed. Then they followed up one month prior to graduation and told me that i actually owe an additional $4,280 and that they’re not sure how they told me incorrectly. Oh and I couldn’t check my balance to know this because they switched systems and didn’t include students who were slated to graduate. Intelligent. If you want my very honest opinion. Go to WSU it costs FAR LESS, the quality of education is FAR HIGHER, and you can take classes when you actually need and want to take them. Am i glad I have a degree? sure? However I will never donate a cent to Newman, I’ll suggest everyone I know avoid them, and if I could do it all over again I would’ve went to WSU.Levi Skelton

I can confirm what someone else said about the poor customer service from the staff – particularly when dealing with the business office. I had a bad experience in my dorm (mold), and after paying for a room change and medications upon medications during that time period, I spent over $600. I was not able to pay my tuition in time (I was paying out of pocket) but despite this they charged me interest twice. I was told that because of the date that it was too late to refund the interest charges. I loved that roundabout. I had proof from my doctor and receipts for medications, including allergy meds (before I realized I had a mold problem I thought it may have been severe allergies, though that wasn't it). The Payroll Administrator (Jeana Scott) was unbelievably rude and disregarded my situation as totally meaningless. She condescendingly responded to all my statements and questions, and I quickly realized that, no matter what the problem, that I would never return to the business office again.jari56ify

Great University and amazing people. At first I thought that it was not my place, but definitely the best choice I have ever made so far in my life. Faculty is amazing. They help you every time you need them and even if you do not need them they offer to help at any time. Staff is also amazing. My first semester was a little bit frustrating for me because my accent was very strong and it was hard to communicate others. They took the time to understand me and listen to me patiently. The student population is awesome because they are very social and want to do things all the time. Regarding the classes and academic level, I loved it. Classes are challenging but teachers help you any time you need. There are also tutors available in case you cannot meet with the teachers. Went to college here for a year. Beautiful campus, great dining, excellent staff, and an overall good experience. There are many clubs to get involved in and so many campus activities. Many of the buildings are modern, including the Student Center and the Dorm. The Dorm- Shocker Hall- is an incredible place to live. When I left, they had just finished building the new Flats on campus, which look amazing as well. Overall, a great college with a beautiful campus that’s relaxing to walk around at night. I got both of my graduate and undergrad degree from Wichita State, and I really liked my experience. Wichita State has a beautiful campus, lots of student organizations through which students can get involved, there are always some activities & events going on on-campus. The campus is full of diversity. Instructors are pretty decent, helpful, most of them really care about their students success. Class sizes are not too big for most of the classes. It’s hit or miss with professors that care, don’t bother getting one with tenure they are the worst professors. Financial aid office doesn't care about helping pay for school and ignore revision requests. Costs constantly going up for things students don’t need and parking is an absolute nightmare. Good things are the campus is nice and fairly up to date. When you get a professor that cares they are willing to help. Advisors are hit or miss.Kaylee Wallis

Bethel is a great place to start your nursing career, from the time I walked into the door to enroll all the way till I took my state test they have had there arms open with a big welcoming as well very encouraging to the student's. Not on time did I have any problems the instructors are great they share there own experiences with the students as well as hands on learning ms Karen is a great instructor as well as the other employees that work there as well.. I also loved that the classes wasn't that long and you can finish the course within a few week's! Can't wait to take my CMA and on from there.. thanks for opening the new journey into my new life GOD has gave me I appreciate it all!!!Ayanna Green

Program was fine. Went to re-certify in WI and was told my hours are not up to WI standards. When I took this course I was told multiple times that "Bethel House will be accepted anywhere throughout the states as they require the highest amount of hours in training." Well, this is untrue and I spent a good amount of money on this course to have to spend it AGAIN to gain the hours necessary. So if you stay in KS, great. But when you ask specifically, multiple times if this would be accepted in WI and are told it will be accepted anywhere in the US – that's false advertising and I would have never taken the course in the first place if I knew the truth.Christine Liebergen

This is a great place to learn. My instructor Shonda was the best, never leaving students behind, giving great advice, tips and stories of her own experiences, and encouraging us along the way. I had a ball here, meant some great individuals, and learned a ton. I highly recommend checking Bethel House out if you are looking to get your cna or cma.Beautiful_Ayanna

Not impressed by this school, classes are still online when they really need to be in session especially to practice skills. Had non-stop issues. If the nurses don’t want to teach then you need to move along. Need instructors who care and want you to succeed and help you to improve. Teaching yourself is extremely difficult and not what I pay for, I pay for a service. The instructors don’t follow the schools values and missions. Disappointed to say the least. One of the worst customer service interactions. I was given a code from my school to purchase some materials. The code ‘malfunctioned’ according to APEA since the price was lower than what they charge normally. According to them and my school it was my fault the code I was given gave me a bigger discount. I politely responded stating as a business owner I would never track down a customer and harass/threaten them that unless I received the full price I will cancel their order. But my school stated it was my fault thus I have no choice to but pay whatever price or I will fail my class. As a disabled veteran I am deeply hurt of the result of this company and my school.Kimberly Stanfield

University of Kansas Medical Center (affectionately called “KU”) is the region’s major health care institution. It is a very busy hospital providing comprehensive and highly-specialized services. They are a go-to institution for complex medical needs including cancer and stem cell transplant. We predict that KU would continue to grow and gain stature nationally. By the way, there are some beautiful glass art displays in the hallways! Also, the cell phone connection is consistently poor inside the buildings and should addressed .Rakesh Goyal

I was recently a patient here and on the 6th floor in the med unit the nurses were so amazing they were very efficient and caring. The doctor "Doctor Brown" was so awesome he really knew his job and how to treat me ive never had a doctor ive felt so comfortable around I personally have mental illness and I dont feel comfortable in alot of situations I would recommend dr brown to anyone hes amaing at his job. Great job ku at putting your patient first. If I could give this hospital 10 i would.KRYSTAL YOUNG
