Review Summary

I never had a chance to visit barry university before enrolling and I wound up not liking the area. The area outside of it is very ghetto and the dorms are smaller than what is shown on the layout online. I didn't feel safe in the general area so I withdrew from the university during the grace period where I should've gotten a 100% refund on classes and an 80% refund on housing. It's been almost two months since I signed and dated the form where I only agreed on paying 20% for housing and 0% for classes. I had not gone to any classes and now I am moved out and enrolled in a different college. I am still being given hell on this process where they were only responsible for calculating the 20% on housing that I owed and signing a withdrawal form. It's taken them two months to do these simple tasks that should've been made a priority and I was told it would be. I am now being billed for $7,050 for classes. For what classes? I hadn't gone to any and withdrew during the grace period. I have copies of my withdrawal form stating what I signed for and printed copies of the official website stating the corresponding dates and percentages for refunds and billing. They are now either going to resolve this issue right away or I will be in the process of sueing the university. This is ridiculous. What can I say: I love Barry. Even though I live way up here in Jax, I commuted down there for classes once a month. It was worth it to me. I’m in the PhD nursing program and I can say it really changed my life. Dr. Jessie Colin, who is also my chair, is the most intelligent and remarkable person I have ever met. The 5 stars is for her and how she is running the doctoral program. Thank you Dr. Colin! The rest of the nursing faculty are also wonderful. Lovely women (too many to name). I’m so glad I made the decision to come to this school. I’ve learned so much that this post would be too long to describe it all! It’s an intellectually challenging program, so be ready to learn. This school in general really focuses on social justice. If you are not open minded to multi-culturalism and discovering new ways of thinking outside of the norm, this may not be the school for you. I tell people this because I know how the culture is in America today (ignorance is bliss). You have to accept to live the ‘Barry Life’, which is being open to culture and seeking justice for those whose voices might go unheard. Like some say on other reviews, yes, the area in which the school is in is kinda sketchy. And be prepared, the student parking is awful. Barry University is the worst. I was enrolled for one semester in 2013. The way the school system is set up is terrible. NO ONE is on the same page, rarely will credits transfer, teachers do not truly care or seemed interested in making personal relationships (mind you this is a PRIVATE college), and lastly…getting your transcripts sent to other colleges is the HARDEST. They go through different programs like "Transcripts on Demand" so there's no help from Barry because they don't even know whats going on in the transcript process. They just buy some company to come handle all of their students and transcripts for them. My transcripts are now late being sent to two different colleges and its been over a month since I sent my consent form (since when do you need a consent form to sent transcripts…usually you pay a fee and that's that). Review Summary

Currently attending and have been struck with how little people here care about their students’ education. I’ve called for advisors to help me with transfer papers and financial aid to ask about my scholarship money (they never refunded it back to me) and I’ve been hung up, transfered to other lines, and even worst… gotten a voicemail saying they’re not available even after calling 5 times during different days and hours. It’s as if the faculty here doesn’t work. The professors are mediocre, really lazy and most have an accent that is hard to understand. Never answer to emails either and don’t help their students pass. I’ve gotten all As and one B but that’s due to how much I tried and stressed myself since I didn’t get any help here. Ever since the pandemic, it’s been difficult getting a hold of different departments and professors. When you sign up for a class, they usually cancel the class for the semester for various reasons. They don’t communicate changes in policy i.e. when you enroll for a class and your funding doesn’t come through, they no longer automatically drop you from the class so they expect you to pay for that class, even if you didn’t take it. Apparently they no longer automatically drop you for non-payment. It’s an unethical practice. Students should be notified of this policy change. Glitchy system that logs in when it feels like it, making me pay for classes I DID NOT TAKE and sent me to collections. Staff may lack 3rd grade education let alone college, the only thing they can direct you to is the bathroom. Appealing anything takes several tries and a firework display over Bayside spelling out "stop screwing me i.d. #000000000". Best thing I could've done for myself is not even bother with MDC. My daughter played soccer for Saint Thomas University. It wasn’t the most organized, but she enjoyed her time playing. There was normal girl drama that I wish females didn’t have to deal with, but it is what it is. She walked on, and transferred in from Texas and was never really welcomed as a recruit, but she made the best of her situation and was a key starting player for her team. While attending the University they hired a new dean. I had some contact with him, and I understand he is trying to turn things around for the university. They need to hire better quality professors, and better quality staff. I had the pleasure of working with Alex Matolcsy | Financial Counselor/Collector in Office of Financial Affairs, and he was the one consistent person who always had the answers and replied to emails in a timely manner. I love STU. The classrooms are smaller than other universities so it’s easier to learn and get one on one with the professors. When it comes to student life, CAB has it covered. Students have a variety of activities to participate in as well as many extra curricular activities. The campus is also heavily guarded by campus security, 24/7 so it always feels safe.Nadya Hanna

I attended Florida National University for my Bachelor's as well as my Master's and it was well worth it. My experience started with the excellent teachers that care about the student as an individual. I was happy with all my instructors but there were two instructors that stood out the most. Dr. Bullen and Dr. Gonzalez are both great instructors who guided me in being able to accomplish my end goal which was to graduate with as much knowledge as possible. Through their guidance they motivated me and passed to me much of their vast experience. They played a big part in guiding me in my academic journey and if I had any questions or doubts I could always count on them to be available to answer any questions in a satisfying manner. But two frustrated students from Kaiser University file a complain and my classroom was cancelled after the second week. I have really enjoyed being a student and I recommend this school to anyone, in my case for the Ultrasound program at South Campus, where people know you, care about you and are willing to mentor you. Staff is super nice people that do their part to make it happen for you. Instructors always were willing to help and instruct give guidance whenever needed, they are very well educated and always ready to provide services for any students to be successful, and you can tell that they enjoy what they are teaching. They were above what I expected. The only complaint I have is that the program is no accredited and you have to take an extra test before present to the ARDMS, but at the end you prepare more. I don’t attend this institution, I happened to be visiting a friend the day I went to this school. I felt compelled to write a review because I was really impressed by the effort this school makes to create a really nice environment for the student. The staff is super warm and nice, I was given a short tour which is the reason why I decided to write this review. My friend tells me that the teachers at this school are very dedicated to the learning process of the student and are always trying to find ways to make the learning experience more enjoyable. I Took a medical assistant course with FVI and went straight into there nursing program they are truly very student oriented and advocate for there students from allied health to undergrad courses. A little over a month ago, I wrote a review on here about a situation that was happening between this school and myself: I was receiving calls and emails from them in regards to a balance that I was unaware of due to some mishaps during Covid where the grant vouchers I turned in weren’t utilized and the balance remained. I was beyond frustrated and when it got to the point where they said I’d be I collections for a debt that wasn’t my fault. I became angry and explained the situation here. Not even an hour later, the school reached out to me about getting in touch with the new Campus President, Dr. Dean Vines, to speak more on the situation. When I tell you Dr. Vines was extremely warm, understanding and apologetic about what was happening and personally took the time to listen. He took it upon himself to reach out to me and look into the situation personally, even though this occurred back in 2020 before his time at Concorde. I am very grateful for him taking the time out from his busy schedule to not only correct the problem, but met with me in person to hand me my transcripts and diploma that I had yet to receive from them. I have been trying to go back to school and further my education for years and years finally I came to Florida for a visit and spoke with Claudette Simpson an admission representative and fell in love with her she's been more down to earth more personable than anyone I've known in education she's helped in so many ways I meant a lot of the faculty and staff involved in occupational therapy assistant program and they've all seemed very very very very professional and very nice and very helpful unfortunately I was not able to complete the program when I started in 2020 but here I am 2022 and within within weeks I'm about to start again still feeling like family still feeling like I have support still feeling that everyone wants me to graduate it's a wonderful feeling it's been scary even though I know I can do it but with these people behind you pushing you and rooting for you I have no doubt in my mind they told me they cannot wait to see me graduate and I see me graduating thank you thank you Claudette you are Amazing!!!!Jennifer Lovelock

I passed my NCLEX RN in 75 questions!!! Failed twice, so I'm very thankful that I attended Ms. Cowan's NCLEX Review to supplement my studying for the 3rd attempt. I found the school completely by chance visiting from South Carolina while looking for a nursing program to get an ASN and prepare me to pass the NCLEX to receive licensure as a registered nurse. I did a zoom meeting with David, the administrator, and he orientated me to the school, program, values SFCN strives to represent, and was more than happy to answer any and all questions I had! This is not your typical nursing program. The class sizes are small, incredibly hands on and personal, and everyone actually cares! The school is about personal growth, not profit for education. All of my professors have great energy and you can tell that they enjoy what they do, not only teaching, but in their personal professional medical careers. I feel blessed to have found a program that is everything I desired in a school, and more! Not only is the professor the Dean of the school which is already sketchy enough, the school has bogus rules to retain you for semesters and semesters just because you don’t meet their standards due to favoritism. My wife is working as a Laboratory Assistant after being referred by this school. I noticed how her instructors provided my wife with extra help/tutoring outside of the scheduled class time. This helped build her confidence and becoming certified after her first attempt on the national exam. Most of the professors are amazing, there's clubs for everything, classes that range from odd to fantastic and everything in between. The sports are great, there's a game room, a piano room, constantly some kind of event from movie screenings or concerts to fairs and festivals. Unless your parents can afford the exorbitant tuition or you have a great scholarship I would not recommend attending UM. I had some good professors and some not so good. Class sizes are fairly small which will matter for some, others not so much. People talk about the campus being beautiful but in my opinion it was nothing special. It is a fairly new school and the modern buildings lack the character of older schools established in the 1800s. In addition, the older buildings they did have are being torn down to make room for newer facilities. Weather is a plus if you don't mind the humidity or lots of rain. If you are looking for the "typical" college town experience I doubt you will find it at UM due to its location in a large metro. It seems like UM is a hot destination for prep school kids from the Northeast. The vast majority of guys that attend UM are bros. Also rich kids from around the world, especially Latin America, the Caribbean, and China. Save your money. Start off at a Community or Junior College then transfer to a public four year college or university. At the end of the day the University of Miami (like all other colleges and universities) is a business. They just want your money. They don't care about you or what happens to you after you leave. The ASN program is 24 months long. I took my prerequisites on straighter line, took the HESI and now I am in the nursing program. The nursing program is 4 semesters (16 months). I would not recommend this school. After completing my first semester of the core nursing program, (with straight A's) I was advised to take a leave of absence until the following semester because there was not enough students to continue with my cohort. I was told I can start with the new student come January. It wasn't until the 1 week before enrollment deadline I was advised they were not going to continue with the evening classes and I had to find another school. I really enjoyed attending this school. The equipment is exceptional, the instructors really care about the students, and the office easily handles any questions that you may have. The instructor to student ratio is about 1:15, so every student gets a lot of hands on. The instructors are excellent, and they make sure that every student fully understands the subject that is being reviewed. Some instructors even help students on their off time to make sure that they understand the material. Overall, I truly enjoyed attending this school, and I recommend it to anyone who wants to pursue a career in paramedicine.Christopher Manash
