I was at the Corbin Ky site nursing program. It was horrible, very rude instructors. They would not email you back, it was a hassle getting replies from most of them. One instructor repeatedly left points off tests that I had to demand to be corrected. If you have health issues, please don’t expect them to be considerate. Other students were very rude and had mean girl/snobby attitudes. However, the Harrogate campus was very nice and the instructors were sweet when I was there for SIM lab. Completely different story from Corbin. I would not recommend their nursing program, they were very unorganized as well, especially with the Covid-19 rules. I was also quarantined three times even though I wasn’t around the person who had Covid so that meant I missed a month of class..SB Bingham

LMU Campus is beautiful. There is a variety of tourist buildings for people to enjoy. Plus the Arena where they let people go walking inside. Then you have a walking trail that stretches for several miles through the LMU Campus, which actually starts at the Harrogate City Park, and ends in Cumberland Gap, TN. It's amazing at the history you can see through LMU. Love it!!! Go there frequently. Sometimes just for photo shoots at some of the beautiful spots and landscape there is around the buildings. We enjoy it for many different reasons. And are very thankful they allow it so openly to the public.Felicia L

I've had coworkers and friends both who have attended here and loved it. I worked in Harrogate and this college is the lifeblood of this little rural community. It's a very beautiful campus, open to the public to enjoy and very safe with it's own security officers. It also boasts the best park in the tri state area. It's very clean and well maintained and the foilage is very beautiful in the fall. There are walking tracks and a pool and ball fields. We love to play pokemon go and there are tons of pokestops here as well!Skye

Pellisippi is a terrible choice when looking for post secondary education. The teachers could careless about the students. Don’t try to speak to speak up because the deans don’t care either. Here’s the kicker Pellisippi is so scared about students dropping out and wonder why no one attends classes but then has teachers that let all of their power go to their heads. When you try to go seek help from anyone at Pellisippi they either don’t know who to contact or push your concerns under the table and forget about you. Students who have concerns will never be heard nor have any of the issues fixed. All Pellisippi cares about is the government funding they get from students who attend there. I would love for someone to direct me to someone who genuinely cares about the students and will make sure their voice is heard.Dylan Rector

I received my Associates Degree from Pellissippi in 2007. I came back last year to take a few online courses b/c I am pursuing my Bachelors at another college. The courses are much less expensive and the instructors are great. However, the staff is very abrupt and rude. It doesn't matter if I am talking to a receptionist, advisor, business associate — even the online Help Desk. I am not sure what the issue is, but I have yet to encounter a friendly staff member. I would recommend this school b/c of the price and knowledgeable instructors. The school staff though, needs an attitude adjustment. They need to remember that we are the students and without us they don't have a job.Amy

I have had a great experience here so far. I am currently in my second semester. My professors have all been very knowledgable, friendly, and I commend those who are able to make a three hour long lecture stay interesting. Looking forward to completing my degree here. The admissions and financial aid staff are wonderful and very helpful in walking you through the process of registration and setting up payments. Bookstore staff are always helpful and nice. Library is great and (usually) a nice/quiet place to study.Noah Newport

You couldn't pay me to go back there. I made the mistake of enrolling in their dental hygiene program where I was repeatedly called stupid, careless, and cussed out in front of fellow students and patients (which made meeting course requirements nearly impossible since my patients wouldn't come back). I'm not sure if the staff was sexist (there's only been one man to ever graduate from the program) or if they abuse everyone (when I tried to get other students to help me file a complaint, they said that they were afraid they would get kicked out of the program), but I'm leaning towards the latter. I mean, I saw one poor girl get screamed at because she needed to go to the bathroom! The professor told her to either sit down or don't come back. This was the most unprofessional, disheartening joke of a "school" I've ever seen. I've attended two other universities and have since taught in a secondary education setting, and I have yet to see anyone act in such a deplorable manner as these people. Stay away!Paul Charpie

WoW. Great place to learn. Wish all Colleges be set up like this one. Easy and great layout for everyone. The Professors be top of the line without the big problems of big Colleges that suck up your money and make a person run around to get to class. This College is set up for a person who wants to learn and not to party, play around , and nor waste my life doing courses I don't need or want. Easy to get help or answers on questions ect. So easy and relax without the day to day run,run,run to building all over the mile long areas. Go to a 4 year College and see how far you have to go just to get to one class. It was horrible we sit in the waiting room for 8hrs. Of course I know emergency happen. We were there because they thought my sister was having a stroke. Finally got called back for treatment at about 2ish and they gave her a bag of IV fluids and a couple of meds and we were sent home at 4:30 am. The people were nice but if you are not dying when you get there you sure enough are when you leave and the people who waited with you also.Vanessa Dodson

UT Gardens are spectacular! Enjoy a private walk through their shaded tails, or a brisk jog along the riverside. There is something for everyone. There is even an interactive Children's Garden! With plenty of places to rest, either benchs or tables, it makes a wonderful place to sit and enjoy lunch. I went in by Ambulance and I was treated with kindness and caring nurses and Dr who actually sit and listen to me and my issue. I was in a tremendous amount of pain but with that being said it was extremely busy with a long waiting on results. The Dr gave me something for pain before he sent me out in the waiting room. I can no longer recommend this school. I have gone to Carson-Newman for my full undergraduate and some of my Graduate program. There have been lots of much needed positive changes, but perhaps the most critical ones still needed are: 1. Environment (broken roads, limited parking, sidewalks, aesthetics) 2. Comfortable study environments. The library can be suffocating at times and it would be better to open a window than to suffer the uncontrollable heat and humidity. I've never had the dorms, but I know they aren't great from the stories I've heard. 3. Thoughtfulness for commuters. It's so hard to attend any events because 90% of them are geared toward on-campus people. From orientation to events or the staff, you get a low-key sense that commuters are not as valued. 4. Last I heard, there are 8 girls for every guy on campus on average. So much so, this school was once called the "Female Newman Academy" several years ago. There is a portrayal that guys are potential aggressors and females are potential victims. PLENTY of clubs/groups for girls, but programs for guys essentially do not exist unless you play sports. I've even had some professors be glaringly obvious with the amount of sexism they have towards males. 5. I was bullied by a group of girls and my professor in one class simply because the girls didn't want a guy in their group and the professor is completely sexist. The school did nothing to help, nor did they believe my experience was valid. So basically if someone doesn't like you, enough claims behind your back will prevent you from passing a class. They even used the fact that I went to counseling for this against me. So if you're a guy, the odds are automatically against you. There is no "truth, beauty, and justice" at Carson-Newman. 6. Everyone hates chapel, no that's not an exaggeration. You're required to get 10 CWL credits a semester and listen to some poor-quality sermons instead of going to your own church. 7. You cannot transfer unless your balance is paid in full, which is how I got stuck here. They also raise the price of tuition $500 EVERY YEAR. TRY to get the HOPE scholarship by getting a 21 ACT score and 3.5 GPA your first semester, I would've gotten so much from trying a 3rd time. After that it's too late. 8. The network is just plain awful. Email and websites go down in the middle of finals week, and are often spotty during the semester. 9. If you transfer, most schools will only accept SOME credits from CNU, while this school is very picky. It wouldn't let this one guy graduate because he took World history at Walterstate, and not American history from CNU. 10. There was a registered sex offender who lived in the girls' dorms for SIX YEARS and regularly used the school's buildings. 11. If your car has any problems whatsoever, school security cannot do a thing to help. Locked keys, battery issues, flat tires, NOTHING. 12. There is a reason that Carson-Newman's fasfa says there is a 70% transfer-out rate. In fact, most students transfer out within their first year of college here. My best friend transferred to Southeastern University in lakeland, FL and absolutely LOVED their school. I highly recommend them for a Christian school, the professors will even stop a class to pray for you. Once you're past 24, you'll never have another chance to live on campus again, so I recommend you go there instead of other colleges that treat you like "just another day at work."Austin McNair

Even though I am a student at Carson-Newman, I am going to keep this review neutral. Carson-Newman University is an amazing place. While they place an emphasis on business and health sciences, all departments are up-to-date and run smoothly. I am a History major working on a teaching licensure. Both the history department and education department have fantastic individuals that will work with you throughout your college career, and I have heard the same in regards to the rest of the major department. The athletic facilities here are fantastic as well and are state of the art. One thing that I find intriguing is the learning environment. While Carson-Newman is a Christian Liberal Arts based school, they are a school of equality. Regardless of what background you come from, career path your choosing, gender, sexual orientation, or religion, you are treated the same throughout. The student-teacher ratio is very small. Therefore, professors know you by name, and they care about your success. They care about you in general. I have had to miss class on several occasions because I have had to take my 80 year old grandmother to her heart doctor, and all of my professors are understanding and are willing to work with me. I would not trade my experience at Carson-Newman for anything in the world. Even though I am a commuter student, the extracurricular environment is superb. While it takes a lot of commitment, I feel included in everything that goes on. If you are contemplating on going to Carson-Newman, I highly reccomend you come see the campus if you have not already. It is so beautiful nestled at the foot of the Smokey Mountains. Attractions of Pigeon Forge are just down the road. There are many parks and nature experiences in Jefferson City, and down the road in Morristown. Knoxville is about 20 miles down the road as well. And where else could you go that your campus is directly on top of a Civil War battlefield. It's true! Carson-Newman sits near the site of a small skirmish during the Civil War. During the battle of Knoxville in 1863, Confederate General James Longstreet marched toward Greeneville through these very hills. Come to Carson-Newman, your home away from home. I'm writing my review as a guest performer and speaker at CN. On February 24, 2021 I visited Carson-Newman University to give a workshop to the Bonner Scholars (a service based scholarship organization). The staff that coordinated my stay and logistics were incredibly kind, patient, flexible, and enthusiastic about all the needs for my presentation. I primarily operated out of the Stokely Memorial Cafeteria and the space here was well suited for a presentation with adequate spacing to accommodate social distancing measures. After my more formal presentation, I conducted a rap/hip-hop/word farming concert in the main cafeteria. The acoustics were good and the technical support staff weas attentive to feedback, scratches in audio, and audio leveling during the live performance. I stayed in the Seaton Guest House on campus which was a homey facility. I could definitely feel the presence of history as the house retains a lot of its old time attributes. I want to give specific thank yous to the Carson-Newman Center for Community Engagement, Bonner Scholars Team, Multicultural Affairs office, the Eagle Production Company, Student Activities, and other individuals/organizations that made my visit possible and extraordinary. Thank you to the magnificent students that took me on the campus tour, thank you to the students I sat down with for dinner, and thank you to the students who gave me feedback and encouragement after my performance. Carson-Newman is definitely a time capsule in our present day world, but there are new minds revitalizing the campus to ensure it remains a place of ongoing growth and development that promotes the success of its student body academically and socially.Victor-Alan Weeks

It's the best Doctor's Office I've ever been to! All five of my grandkids are Patients there, and all of them enjoy going! They usually dread going to Doctor Appointments, but knowing they're going to see Ms. Alisha and the rest of the Staff brings a huge amount of excitement to them, as well as a great big smile on their face! Ms. Alisha (she's the only one we've seen, and that's a good thing) is always so kind, caring, concerned, and thorough. She listens to what your saying, and don't mind you asking questions. She also values your input. The Office is never overcrowded, and we're seen minutes after we arrive. This Office was much needed in the Community, and it's highly appreciated by me.Rhonda Stephens

Decent school. Will waist your time on training that should be done by a high school freshman, entering their first job. Things like two star rated “SkillsUSA Career Essentials”. Despite the overwhelming majority of students finding it unhelpful and an academic distraction from the rest of their learning. It is a check in a box for the school though, thinking this will fix the number one issue with employees that employers face, punctuality and attendance. It won’t. But the school pushes hours of it anyway, despite overwhelmingly negative student feedback. Honestly the school cares very little on student feedback. Hence no student government body. Faculty has overall say. I’ve done three programs here. I mainly return due to how my GI Bill is charged. Basically I do it for the money. The welding program was great under Greg Brooks. Other instructors? May get a lesser or greater experience. Depends on the instructor. Had Will Drainy for the electrician program, and he was great. Moved on, and Nick Paterson took over, and program became a joke in comparison. I ended up co-oping early to get away from the mess of a program. Then automotive with Andy Smith was good. Good instructor but a big disconnect with what he teaches and the third party programs he uses, and the actual ASE certifying tests. He knows he trade, but doesn’t know his third party content he assigns us. Trusts the name of the provider(cdx), and blindly assigns it based on that. When problems are routinely brought up on the content/sources, we waves it off and says he doesn’t know. Much of the instructing will come from third party online sources, with his lectures being good but minimally helpful in regards to the assignments, all of which come from CDX, DealerCONNECT, SP2, SkillsUSA…again none of which has Andy Smith actually done. So he has little to nothing to do with the vast majority of tests, quizzes, and assignments, you will do. Almost nothing is “his material”, maybe that’s good, maybe not. I find it not good, when the content lacks and he can only acknowledge it, but can’t/won’t fix anything. Point being it’s an ok school, but depends on your individual instructor. The front office is often less than helpful and cares more of the image and politics involved in academia, than student feedback…but the “trades” are so in demand and the basic training you get can land enough people into that $14-18/hr range..so many students are content. Having done multiple courses for pleasure, I’ve had more opportunities to see the schools faults. Be prepared to be viewed as high school students, who are on the payroll of the school..as opposed to adult learners who are paying to attend the school. Weird priorities on their end. #1 is “worker characteristics” (stuff public school teaches you like follow directions and behaving around others) #2 the actual skills of your selected trade. 3 out of 5….but they push several 1 or 2 star products which you’ll be required to spend many hours on, with no return aside from “putting in the work”.Jim Johnson

If you want to get into the Automotive Tech program here’s what to expect: the class is headed by a Ford Master tech who is in possession of 98% of the tools and machines you’d ever need to complete a job. There are “customer” jobs to complete, actual cars with actual problems. There is a mountain of computer work as well as task-sheets that are completed by real-world action being taken in the Automotive Practice Lab. Attendance is strict. Tardies and Absences can ruin your shot at success in the program very VERY quickly. There’s a lot of self-study required. However, I’ve found that every question or concern I have about the material, about procedures, about the work – will all be addressed in a professional way by the Instructor, who has been doing this job for a very long time and has a very potent, information-filled teaching style. I suggest taking copious notes during lectures. A uniform is required and professionalism is required. In return for your good attendance, lack of tardies and commitment to the work you will receive some solid, SOLID benefits that’ll help you for real; first the certifications you’ll receive are numerous and valuable. Certifications are offered on everything from Safety to Precision Measuring Instruments and everything in-between. Next is Manufacturer Training; Chrysler *AND* GM training is now included in the curriculum. This is OEM Dealership level proprietary Manufacturer training on their specific products, methods and procedures. These alone can be instrumental in landing the job you want. Next there’s the ASE inclusion in the curriculum. If you can study hard, retain the knowledge and exhibit the ability to use it during real-world-scenario diagnosis you can secure ASE certifications. The importance of these in securing good pay cannot be overstated. Instructor Smith holds and maintains Master level ASEs. Finally is the applied skills you learn from doing the actual job. Automotive Practice Lab has a drive-on alignment lift / alignment machine, bench and mobile lathes, all manner of automotive machine-tools. But you really kinda have to earn your time on these machines by working hard at the first chunk of Automotive Tech as a program which is Safety & Foundations. If you have the motivation to study, retain and apply it all, then you get to work in the Practice Lab. Some folks seem frustrated you can’t just jump into the Lab on Day 1 and start working metal and cars. Full disclosure: it’s hard but it’s fun. It takes dedication and tons of self-study. In my view so far (10.5 months into the program) it’s worth the patience and determination and sweat. Why? Because in the end Instructor Smith is an expert at more than the machines or repairing the cars; he’s an expert regarding the Automotive Industry and knows seemingly everyone in the industry in town. His advice is worth trusting career-wise and if that’s what you’re after, a career at a dealership doing OEM warranty repair and diagnosis, maybe consider this program? Hope this helps.hollow men

If I could rate lower than 1 star I would! I began in the Surgical Technology program in September 2018. The syllabus guarantees 6 month lecture time and 6 month clinical time. The program director we had at the time dragged her feet and was consistently late for class time so instead of my group receiving the 6 month allotted time we got 52 days. In this 52 days we were required to complete a rotation and participate in 120 cases, this is nearly impossible. 20 days before graduation, I was dismissed from the program for having anxiety disorder for which I am medicated. Apparently there is no such thing as an extenuating circumstance. This dismissal was a ploy by the current program director (the program director changed earlier this summer) to assert her dominance since no one took her seriously. I filed a grievance, but by the time I was able to meet with someone there wasn’t a way for me to catch up and finish the program anyway, so I declined to fight for my position. Needless to say this was the most undesirable experience I have ever been through in my 30 years of life. I was constantly humiliated in front of class mates, called out, and at one point was told to use tea tree oil on my scalp because that’s what they used for their dog. I was exposed to a persons bodily fluids when an instructor placed a soiled safety shield on my face in the middle of a surgical procedure (the shield being soiled is why I didn’t have them on to begin with).After being dismissed from the program, I was told by the program director that I might try cosmetology as that might be a better fit because not everyone is meant for the medical field. I gave up almost a year of my life for this nightmare of an experience that included being mistreated and discriminated against for being overweight during my clinical time! If I could go back in time, I would save myself the hurt and tears that have been shed and just pursued my BA like I plan to do now. Prospective students beware!Charlye Snider

King University is a great place to earn your degree! The faculty and staff are very passionate about what they do and are more than willing to help you. I started the 16 month Communication program in May 2014 and I can honestly say I feel like I have obtained skills that will help me excel in my future career. The classes are straight forward and fast paced so you don't have time to get bored. Each class meets one day a week for 5 weeks so if you are someone who gets tired of a subject easily then this is perfect for you. Class sizes are small so you don't have to worry about lack of guidance, you will actually have the opportunity to get to know your professors. Overall, I am very satisfied with my experience at King University and I look forward to graduating this August with a bachelor's degree in Communication.Alison Daniel
