10 Best Absn Programs In Austin, TX (2022 Updated)

This is a great university! The psychology undergrad program prepared me for success in my current counseling psychology master’s program quite well. The faculty are fantastic and the campus is gorgeous. I appreciated Spanish tutoring with Dr. Escamilla provided by the school as well as numerous career development, grad school application, recreational, and internship placement opportunities! I only wish it was a bit more affordable as even with scholarships it’s quite pricey. But, I am glad they pay their faculty, and I do think they spend the money well on resources that directly positively impact students. They have a career resource center that’ll help alumni with resumes, searching for jobs and more! The gym and yoga studio are great. One of my psychology professors had us meditate as part of class and we did things like go outside to paint together and go to yoga! It was a positive psych class so it fit. This isn’t to say the university was easy or without academic rigor because it was challenging and involved plenty of difficult academic work including research! I do feel it was social justice oriented as I appreciated the Mexican American cultural class in Spanish I took told from an indigenous professor and perspective, though to be even more socially just, reduce the price of tuition! I enjoyed that I knew at least half of the faculty and they knew me and remembered me and would say hi years after I took their class; so much better than just being a number in a big lecture hall! It may not have the rankings or prestige of some larger universities and how can it being so small, but the quality of education and experience is high. Only 1 student was mean to me 1 time my entire undergrad career. Really recommended! I would not have been prepared for my current grad program without SEU…don’t think I would have even gotten in otherwise because I was taught at SEU how to write an ideal essay, APA publication format, interview and interpersonal skills, and was able to achieve high grades because the learning experience is so high; I got my disabilities accommodated for instance. Literally the only reason I cannot give 5 stars is the exorbitant cost that limits many people so they can’t attend or will have a lot of debt. Otherwise, fantastic!Alysia Duemler

I completely agree with a post below about how much I loved this school, yet upon graduation I felt lost and unprepared for the “real world”. I think the staff and curriculum is amazing, I wouldn’t choose differently, but St Eds was like a dream state of mind. That being said , I have obtained a different bachelors degree since graduation and changed my field of study. More real world practicality from the programs perhaps would help prepare future graduates to succeed ! Thank you st Ed’s for an amazing undergrad experience nonetheless, that I will cherish forever. I wanted to make a shitpost review but I can't think of anything funny and I also honestly really like St Eds. It's a good school. If you're ambitious, passionate, and hard working, the teachers will do everything in their power to help you succeed, even if you have mental illness or other problems most people might look down on you for. I really think I'm going to have a good shot at grad school with the support I've gotten at St. Eds and that's not something I'd be able to say about many other schools.Christina

My daughter will begin her sophomore year at CTX next week and she had an amazing freshman experience last year. She lived on campus, which is very safe, clean and engaging community. The dorms are new and very well maintained. The cafeteria food is very good, but like any student it's not home cooking, but they offer healthy choices and a good variety daily. There are MANY opportunities to get involved and the professors are amazing at CTX! This is a small school but with the benefits of a top notch education. The staff challenges the students to serve in the local community and share their talents while pursuing their education. There are opportunities to go on mission trips and our daughter went to Africa for 10 days. She had an amazing experience. Our daughter missed a few days of classes due to an infection and the professors were very understanding. It's a family at CTX and she was immediately welcomed into the family and well cared for as a new student. As her parents and being many miles away, it was reassuring to know what a great community we left her in last fall. We are CTX's biggest fans and have a number of students attending this year, as well as next year because of her great experience. Visit this campus, stay with a current student overnight and get the full experience. If you are looking for a great education, you will be amazed at the talent they assembled in their staff and the excellent students who attend this wonderful school. I love it here at Concordia! I am currently in a summer class here and will be attending my second year at Concordia in the fall. The campus is beautiful and the professors are understanding and very helpful. I love the smaller class sizes they make me feel like I am actually getting what I'm paying for. Tuition for a private school isn't all that bad. I got into 5 other private colleges and 3 state colleges and this was the best rate. With a scholarship paying school off in full isn't all that difficult. I love it here at Concordia and I'm very proud to be a part of the tornado family. I'm glad I chose Concordia over my other options.Nicole Zon

I attended the Dallas/Fort Worth campus of Concordia University for a Masters in Education and overall my experience was horrific. My e-mails were ignored for days to weeks from the administration in both Dallas and Austin on important matters ranging from financial aid to course requirements. The campuses appeared to not be able to communicate with one another on even the most basic of tasks which made it incredibly annoying. It has been a frustrating period with this University. I do not recommend this school for a Masters program and if you dare to brave it make sure you steer clear of their Dallas/Fort Worth campus.Jean M

I’m in Mrs. Emily’s, CMA (certified Medical Assistant) morning class from 9am-1pm. I’m currently one of the ambassadors for my CMA program and I have met many interesting people while representing my class. I started the class on January 6th of 2022. I currently reside in killeen/Harker Heights, TX., area. I choose to attend the Austin area Cybertex after visiting the reviews online and the school. I learned that the teacher for the Austin location was also the director of the school, this let me know that she had a vested interest in her students success and I was correct. Mrs. Emily is beyond helpful and interested in her “babies “ students learning and understanding each subject matter. I drive and hour and 20 minutes to get to class and haven’t missed a day as of yet because of the encouragement of Mrs. Emily and the subject matters interest me and I don’t want to miss anything. I could have chosen to go to a number of other CMA that were closer to home but I drive here because of Mrs. Emily and her teaching style. If you are looking to get your foot into healthcare or trying to get a leg up on getting into a competitive nursing school program, like I am, this is an awesome place to start and an amazing instructor to learn from. Making the choice to attend CyberTex has been one of the best decisions I have made. From day one, the staff was friendly and accommodating, and ensured that any concerns I had were addressed and I truly felt I was in good hands and not just a number like at other institutions. The instructors are welcoming and knowledgeable. They truly take the time to make new students feel like an asset to the school. Specifically Mrs. Emily, the director and day-time instructor for the CCMA program makes the learning process engaging for students with all levels of medical background. She always goes above and beyond to ensure that the content used in class is relevant and does not shy away from making necessary correlations between the curriculum and real life applications. Her extensive experience and enthusiasm for the field is ever-apparent and makes for a truly refreshing learning experience that every classroom should aim to mimic. The work she assigns is of a level that effectively reinforces the material covered in class but also allows for students to maintain a good amount of time for life outside of school. If you are contemplating on attending CyberTex for the Medical Assistant (MA) Program, just do it! Mrs. Emily Winston, Director of the MA Program and the instructor of the day class. Mr. Bell is the instructor of the night class. These two instructors are not only awesome, but make an awesome team. They compliment each other as teaching partners as they both teach in their own different ways, but yet, have the same purpose….helping and teaching their students. Classes are packed full of the Body Systems and much much more that will get you ready for the CCMA Certification. I am in the day class with Mrs. Winston and the way she teaches for a slow , old timer (like me) is perfect!!! I didn't go to college as school wasn't for me. Although, since being in Mrs. Winston's class, I am at 100% with my grades which is absolutely amazing and all thanks to her and her teaching style. If I can do it, anyone can. Our class is a fun bunch. Add Mr. Bell from the night class into our day mix and man oh man….we are rockin'. Labs are hands on. We practice injections and drawing blood on each other, the real deal. Loved my time there. The campus is very big (but not overwhelmingly so), and one can walk to most classes in 10-15 minutes. Many choices of places to eat, either on the Drag or on the several dining rooms across campus. Only complaint about the campus itself is parking (which is either difficult to find or far away but always expensive, nonetheless), and the never-ending construction on campus, which can be quite an annoyance sometimes due to the route disruption or noise. Over the years, the University of Texas at Austin has developed and built the campus into an increasingly beautiful place. There are innumerable study spots and incredible views to be found all over campus. Further, they've been working on street infrastructure to make campus walk-areas safer and more accessible to pedestrians or bikers. Overall, great university.Paul Lewis

Don’t bother, you’re better off going through a self paced program. We basically watch YouTube videos and teach one another. Administrative department is NEVER available and when you are able to catch one passing in the hall, he/she is vexed. You can call and email allllll day and never get a response so the cards they have sitting are for decor. Admissions are just sales men and we all know salesmen can’t be trusted!! RUN to YouTube, you’ll save thousands of dollars and hours of frustration.VANCE M

Best advice is to please consider a community college or other university first. You are expected to be on campus Monday-Friday, there is no flexibility at the Austin Campus. ADN bridge program is longer than any other bridge program and way too expensive. Save your money, go to a community college, there is plenty of resources, flexibility and financially better in there than here.Canela ParaVos

Recently, I was helping a friend who was interested in the program. We spent a day searching for schools and wanted additional information about this one. Today we decided to call the school to speak with someone for further explanation to our questions. After communicating with three separate individuals, we were transferred directly to an advisor named Tracey. As soon as we stated our interest in the program and our question, we were interrupted abruptly with the question of “did you go to the website” as if an individual who was curious about a perspective program would not have already done so. How would we have the number? How would we have any previous knowledge of this program without doing so? From my very brief conversation we got the clear idea of what type of institution this is. A place where prospective students will just be redirected back to the website. A place where you are expected to conduct yourself professionally but are met with unprofessional individuals.joanna

I received my bachelors degree from WGU and it was a really good experience. When I decided to go back for my graduate degree, i chose WGU. Unfortunately, it appears WGU has completely changed. I submitted the WGU graduate application and got no response. Finally one person emailed me and referred me to someone who told me I was a drop out, so I would have to wait an extended period of time to re-enroll. I let them know I had graduated and did not understand this. No response. Finally the original person I talked to emailed me back explaining she didn’t work with graduates but referred me to someone who did. No communication from that person either. It appears to me that WGU doesn’t really have an interest in graduates returning. I’m very disappointed that after 4-5 weeks I’ve been unable to get started. I used to refer friends to WGU, but I will no longer do that. I will also seek my graduate degree elsewhere.Dawn Phillips

It's a great deal at an accredited online university. It also has the right about of challenge to be interesting without being overly difficult. My only complaints are that my enrollment counselor was dishonest about the workload (much more busywork) and that the physics curriculum didn't have enough math in it. I had to write 9 physics essays and take zero physics tests and that doesn't prepare me to teach physics very well, in my opinion. But, at the end of the day, it is a little tedious but it is much easier and cheaper than having to drive to a traditional university. If you just want a masters (I get a raise with one) and don't care where you get it, this is a good place to do so.Greg Poe

Horrible college do not go here unless you want to be recorded while you take tests be forced to purchase a web cam get told a bunch of lies and cannot take out a certain amount of loans then mind u they get your transcripts refuse to give you all of your allowed credits from transcripts i would of never came here to feel like a prisoner especially for this being an online format I’m just offended was lied to by admissions team rude mentor had to be on webcam to even visit with mentor which is doing way too much for my liking had to write 4 letters on why I should be accepted into this bogus college I’m just offended to say the leastParis Higgs
