19 Best 2 Year Nursing Programs In Rochester, NY (2022 Updated)

My son recently graduated from this college. He transferred in from a 2 year college so he was only there for 5 semesters. Things started okay but went downhill. Communication quickly became a problem. We had issues from professors, finance and counseling. It became so bad that to get anything done we had to cc the Dean in any messages that we sent. I also know of someone else who had to do the same thing. The last semester was the worst. He was enrolled as a full time student but when the bill came through it was in correct. We got loans for the first amount but had to get additional loans after the semester ended. No one sent an email we had to check the account because my son never received an email or his diploma. When we were notified by the finance department they told us we had to fix it. Numerous emails were sent to many different people but nothing was ever fixed. We finally resent the emails and cc’d the Dean and it finally got fixed. The college also changed the advisor without notifying us that it had changed. My son had to find his own internship and figure his classes out on his own. My daughter had the same issues with communication. She was signed up to go but never heard back. She then got a call from the advisor asking why she never showed up. The advisor had enrolled her in classes but never told her. She ended up not going. If you choose this college they will take your money but you will have to do a lot of work to make sure they are on top of things.Todd Crossett

I graduated from Roberts last year and I had a great experience. I do agree with some reviews that communication is not always great, but as long as you are proactive and take an active approach to your education here, you'll do wonderfully. The staff and students are very respectful and the professors seem to really care about you and your overall success. It is a nice size campus, not too busy and not too small. I went to undergrad here and loved it. There were always opportunities to learn outside of class, meet people through activities, and my professors knew who I was. A wonderful place to go to school and a great place to visit. The students here are almost all very kind, sweet, accepting, supportive, and open-minded people. They are slightly diverse in terms of demographics, and quite diverse in terms of personality. The college offers a diverse range of majors and excellent classes. It has particularly great music, performing arts, nursing, and physical therapy programs. Class sizes are not very big, with very few lecture hall-style class settings. The teachers are mostly very kind and care greatly about what they do. Tuition is very high, but depending on your program, it can be worth it. The campus is beautiful! It is full of nature and a mix of collegiate gothic and more modern buildings. It is small and dense, but not crowded. It is also very safe. Risk of theft or damage to property is very rare, but the latter is more common among lowerclassmen. There is so much history to uncover. It is located close to good places to shop, eat, and visit in Pittsford. The academic buildings are clean, well-lit, and mostly fitted with modern amenities. Bathrooms in some buildings are very clean, some are quite unclean. The lowerclassmen residence halls can be somewhat loud, are typically slightly unclean, but have many events to attend run by the RAs. There are dorm or suite-style living choices. Upperclassmen residence halls are mostly clean, almost always very quiet, and have dorm, suite, apartment-style living choices. Living arrangements are for full-time students only. The food in the Dining Commons is pretty good. It has a pretty diverse menu with some options tasting decent, some great. Other food locations around campus have a somewhat limited menu range and the food is mediocre. Some alternative dietary accommodations are met, and more will be made if requested. Facilities staff are mostly not friendly, but not unkind. The staff in the Dining Commons are mostly pretty friendly and very kind.Graeme Lechner

I received counseling services from John Aceto at Nazareth College. This man is sexually inappropriate! I met him to work on my shyness, and for the entire session he tried diagnosing me other issues. He told me I drink coffee everyday because I have "Caffeine-use disorder." That rediculous disorder is not even in the DSM! Then he diagnosed my father with Bipolar disorder, based on my childhood memories. He never even met my father in person. After the session, he began rubbing his hand on my back, telling me that he wanted to "help me out." I felt violated. BEWARE of this man! He will rope you in for other issues and try to take advantage of you. I expressed my concerns to the director, Megan Clifford Papponetti, and she black mailed me. She threatened to have me suspended, and that is exactly what she attempted. She shared my confidential assessments and sessions with my Ex and even to my professors. My professors were concerned about me, saying that they received a strange call from Megan "bragging about the information she found out about me." That was PERSONAL information that I trusted with the Nazareth College Counseling Center, and I was humiliated. Nazareth College, you should be ashamed of yourself! I wouldn’t recommend to anyone trying to better their lives. They promise you a job at the end of your course and then claim that there are no jobs available. The teachers use their time to threaten you and accuse you of talking, not paying attention or just deviant behavior while you sit their silently and then all faculty staff say “well it’s a free program” they also threaten to remove you from class and tell you to “get out” if you have questions or you bring up things that you’ve learned before that challenge what they’re teaching and ask for clarification. There was a teacher who would actively blame me for the things the girl next to me did. If she was speaking in class, eating or even sleeping she would accuse me of being the one talking or the one that was influencing this grown girl to behave the way she did. While I sat there quietly and did my work. Don’t do it if you have anxiety or depression cause this place will push you to kill yourself having to survive here. They also remind you that you’re a charity case that they have blessed with the right to attend to school.Alana Hernandez

The admissions department definitely knows how to to sell the school. Students across the board need to know what you want to ask before you walk into the building. I only attended 3 semesters and did very well there. Early on I changed my major 2x and kept asking questions and to finally then making a decision that the college didn't have the degree that was best suited for me so I transferred to a Suny college that was much more affordable that wouldn't leave me with high debt once I was finshed. I had made some great friends and got to know some great helpful staff at the college and they know who they are and I'm very thankful for them being "real" genuine people. As students young or adult learners we need to make the best choices for ourselves and sometimes we experience negative and positive ones during our journeys.Cindy Minster

If I could give a 0 star I would for this school. Very unprofessional, I begged for help from financial aid, my professors and I tried to contact my advisor. No one would help me. No one. They were so rude to me and unprofessional. I am a single mom working full time trying to go back to school. I thought this would be a great option for me. I was part of the OTA program and had to leave because my mental health was destroyed by the staff members. I, along with 3 other students left the program because of how poorly we were treated. This school only cares about its reputation, not its students. Not to mention they now call me EVERY DAY to ask if I would like to return despite me telling them every time they call to please never call again because I am never returning.Cassidy Troy

I was here to vote early on Friday (10/30). I was happy that the wait time was minimal (about 5 minutes). There were many workers there helping to guide everyone to the correct places to "check-in," receive a receipt to get your ballot, then go fill out the ballot and cast your vote. There seemed to be almost too many poll workers though. Some were just kind of standing around and crowding the place. The flow of people entering and exiting crossed paths, which isn't the best practice during the pandemic. Everyone was masked though and there was hand sanitizer and cleaning supplies everywhere, so it wasn't all bad. I was satisfied with the experience.Alyssa Jewell

But they've also told me that in Rochester, Medicine is the best thing to learn because there's jobs and good money but I don't like Medicine, so why would I care? I graduated from here in the 1990s when it was still on Prince Street in downtown Rochester. The move to Westfall Road was ill advised, since it is not on a bus line. In the winter time it would be quite a hike to the campus from the nearest bus line on South Clinton Avenue. This makes this college inaccessible for many city residents.Chili Ray

Current Admissions counselor/coordinator and director is rude, not helpful, nor understanding. They ignore application and take months to get back with you. This shows that the school is money hungry. I would recommend looking at other nursing schools that really care about prospective and current students.Keal N

The college experience was great, My RA position truly prepared me for the real world and helped me to understand and appreciate the world around me. But I can only give three stars because the school of business/enterprise let me down. As an accounting major, I aspired to work in Government or Not-for-profit post graduation. Once the professors realized I didn't want to work for a Public Accounting firm, they wrote me off. I am succeeding today, solely because of my RA position. And for that I am forever grateful. PLEASE take it from me that the show Fisher puts on during open houses and tours is extremely fake. There is no “fisher family”. However, there are MANY bullies. I have never seen such cruel, heartless, and just plain mean behavior until I attended this school. If you're looking for a Chofetz Chaim yeshiva that is very frum yet chilled, then this is probably something you should look that. The Rebbeim are kind, both the hebrew and english education is good, the rules aren't overly intense, and you have room to be yourself. Of the more than 50 top universities we toured around the country, Rochester was my favorite. Not only was it outstanding for its serene and spacious campus and its architectural richness, but for the people. The friendly staff who greeted us, the advice of their genuine and truly supportive admissions counselors, the welcoming and enthusiastic professors we met were all top notch. Ultimately my child chose a different university, but I would have been happy to spend more time visiting this campus and the surprisingly lovely city surrounding it.Mags

I don’t personally go to RIT, or plan to, but I just need to say, to everyone in these reviews complaining about the cold or snow: did you bother to even look up upstate NY weather? We frequently get nor’easters, side affects from hurricanes that travel up the coast, as well as one winter we’ll get like a foot of snow and others we get snowed in so bad it’s level with your car. Not financial aide friendly. Tutoring for chemistry didn’t start until the fourth week of classes. The chemistry lab professor are rude grad students. The teachers are unorganized and unprofessional. I would not recommend this school to anyone. The ONLY good thing is the co-op.Laporcha Richardson

Both an elderly former neighbor and an elderly family member have stayed at The Hurlbut at differing times: both experiences were less than adequate. I would describe the attention to the residents as negligent, edging toward abusive. I'm at the age where many of my friends' parents are in skilled nursing facilities, so I have observed the workings of many in the area. Across the board, most hands-on staff are underpaid, overworked, and typically have received insufficient training for the job. (It truly is a shame how disrespectfully we treat the elderly in America.) However, I think The Hurlbut takes the cake in regards to blatant profitability over care. As harsh as it sounds, one gets the sense that the place is merely a warehouse for people to dump folks with limited incomes to die. The physical atmosphere is dreary and depressing. It's understandable that walls and furniture are going to experience a bit of wear and tear, but this is far beyond that. It appears as if no one has cared for the aesthetics of this place in decades. Scratched, dented, and outright broken furniture abounds. In resident rooms: window screens are missing or torn, blinds are broken, walls are not just scratched, but gouged. Beyond that, the few personal items resident's may bring in, have been known to "disappear." There are a few good employees that genuinely care. Unfortunately, they are far out-numbered (and possibly even bullied) by those who are burned-out, under-supervised, are simply disinterested. There are a few employees that are downright scary — using threatening tones and verbiage intimidating residents. Attempting to address these concerns with management gets you nowhere – they are minimized or and a "we're doing the best we can under the circumstances" excuse is used. Pathetic. Pitiful. Disgraceful. If you have a loved one at this place and can't relocate them, contact them on a daily basis to make certain they aren't volunteering to end their life before it's time.Sophie Davies Taylor

Recently I saw an advertisement on TV about Hurlbut. I had a loved one at Seneca Nursing Home for a short time recently. It is also suppose to be a rehabilitation facility. What was explained to me and what i observed, there is no way anyone could be rehabilitated in this facility to return home. In my opinion they are under staffed and many are unqualified. They have no common sense as how to handle patients with specific needs to make them comfortable. To be kind, the facility conditions and protocols are (sad). To be blunt, (horrible). Now let's get to the numbers. According to Hurlbut, they receive over $10,000 per/month per/patient. At Seneca Nursing Home they have approx. 80 patients. That's over $800,000 a month and over 9 million dollars a year for a very small facility. In my opinion Seneca is in poor condition, under staffed, with some unqualified staff. It is reasonable to assume that Hurlbut operates all its facilities in a similar manner. Where does the money go? It would be interesting to know what profit they make. What the CEO and all the "Administrative" costs are compared to actual patient care. Should medical facilities "profit" off poor health care? And just to put icing on the cake, I received a bill from Seneca on July 25 for over $1800 for the period of July 21-July 31. My loved one left Seneca on July 17th and passed away on July 18th. Look at the dates. I guess you can see where their priorities are. Maybe they should spend less money on advertising and more on proper care. Word of mouth is much better than any TV ad. Sad thing is, there are many companies who exploit the elderly for ridiculously high salaries and profits over proper care. I had to give a rating of at least 1 star in order to post but my real rating would be 0.thomas moracco

My relative spent roughly two weeks at the Hurlbut while recovering from hip replacement surgery. PROS (from least to most significant): *CLEAN facility (virtually no odor!) *Pleasant rooms; lots of light, not at all gloomy or depressing *Caring CNA's & nurses (overall, they were exceptional) *EXCELLENT rehab staff and facilities CONS (from least to most significant): *No menus for special dietary needs (vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, etc.); they did try to make accommodations, but in this era, with more and more people following a plant-based diet, this should be an option *Poor communication with family members regarding medications administered (changes made in medication without any notification whatsoever, and staff appeared evasive or even annoyed or hostile when asked. At one time they were administering a double dose of my relative's allergy meds on a daily basis, when the order was for half the dose on an as-needed basis; dizziness was the result, and while that might not be a problem for the normal person, someone recovering from joint replacement does not need to be any less stable when walking!) *Poor record keeping in evidence (my relative had been at the Hurlbut for two days, and guests coming in were told no one was in that room; even worse, the night nurse gave my relative someone else's medications one night. I was there and caught the error; I was shown the log of the person supposedly in my relative's bed–this person was moved to a different wing at least a week before, and yet they still had the person assigned to my relative's bed. This is a great school to start with prior to transferring to four year institution. Lots of classes with great professors that can relate to students. The biggest takeaway is the cost as compared to traditional four year schools. Aside from the positive stuff I've mentioned comes the bad. When I attended this school I was informed by counselors that receiving an AAS degree is the same as an AS degree with all my credits able to transfer when I decided to pursue a four-year degree. The only difference separating the two degrees is work experience. Well, once I started Brockport a majority of classes in my major only transferred as credits towards my BS degree and NOT towards my major program requirements. Despite having completed similar classes within my major I was forced to retake classes with same syllabus at Brockport therefore, I basically had to complete all four years all over again. Anyone considering to pursue a program here, my advice for you is to make sure you ask the right questions and understand the different types of degrees prior to committing . It's not worth anyone's time or money to retake classes at any institution if it will set you back.Giuseppe Mellia

I'd want to say that this is the best college I've ever attending. I'm currently enrolled in this college. This college has provided me with a great deal of assistance with everything I need. This college has already made an impression on me. If you need to do something on your expected it will be your goals, I strongly advise you to go to Monroe Community College. The pool is very clean, but the Lifeguards are always on their mobile devices not even paying attention. One will guard the entire area standing far away from members attentive but the other two guards in uniform instead of surrounding the pool area with guards at all angles of the pool these two staff sit with either their back to the pool or on their phones. I also see the director sitting in his office never walking out on deck to correct the matter. Why pay staff to neglect their position of which they were hired to do. Great facility however – I’m not sure this is the place to communicate this… but I typically walk in the area and the seating bench area right in front of Portland Ave (by the front sign) is constantly littered with trash. I bring a bag and try to clean up the area the best I can. I’ve noticed on my walks that the nursing staff likes to take their breaks out there. I have picked up tons of cigarettes, fast food bags, soda cans, and even someone’s old socks! The landscaped garden in front are trashed! Someone needs to tell the staff not to be slobs! I was sent home around midnight going into my due date, after my water had broken (the evening of May 27th 2017– going into May 28th). The triage nurses refused to check, even though it was exactly what I was describing, because I couldn’t possibly know my own body— and could only have been a hysterical first time mom. My husband asked multiple times for them to check and they refused and literally laughed at him. I was back 8hrs later with contractions 5 minutes apart. They gave me pitocen due to the increased possibility of infection (which didn’t yet exist). They told me they were going to give me a “whiff” of pitocen “just to get things moving”— which they continued to crank up every 30 minutes, until after I delivered 11hrs later. At one point while I was laboring they decided that I was bouncing too hard on the birthing ball and throwing off their unnecessary (bc there was never any indication of any problems) heart monitor ((this was instructed by the doctor from my OB practice and not necessarily the fault of the maternity ward staff)). Not cool, Doctor. Let a woman labor how SHE sees fit. Also my doctors decision for my delivery position is just how she delivers babies, and had nothing to do with what was comfortable or effective (best) for me. My nurses Joan and Ingrid were absolutely amazing and I will love them for the rest of my life. The care they provided was of the highest caliber.Janet Young

I was skeptical at first but it couldn't have been better. Our 2 boys were born at Rochester General & for this one her doctors office switched from General to Strong Hospital. We were just used to General I guess. We've had staff at General be rude because we chose to bottle feed, & told my girlfriend that's the reason the baby was fussy- so it was her fault! At Strong New Beginnings every worker from doctor to janitor, RN to Cafe cashier, was very friendly. The nurses were very supportive of whether she breastfed or bottle fed. One even said, all we care about is that she's getting fed. If I had a choice I would choose Strong to deliver any future babys! (Although this is going to be our last one!)Graffics76

I brought my wife here for some routine pregnancy tests to be run. The room and sheets were VERY DIRTY. The sheets and the wait time was ridiculous…almost an hour and for what??? Non sanitary conditions. I have seen better cleaning in a bar bathroom. VERY DISGUSTED 😡😡😡Icon Prime
