The building is not very inviting because it is so big, but once you get in and figure out what's where it becomes less intimidating. I graduated here with my associate's degree in Leadership. 60 of my credits transferred from NWTC to Concordia University of Wisconsin. I preferred the video conference classes. My son is currently attending the school. I was a student there back in the early 80's. The campus is very nice. Helpful faculty, variety of courses and majors. Good food choices at the cafeteria and a workout area with plenty of free weights and machines with an attached gymnasium. Lots of nice areas to study both inside and outside.David Klinzing

Excellent place to take a test! I took a certification exam through Pearson Vue at NWTC. The test center employees explained everything thoroughly and the center itself was quiet enough to take my exam. I recently finished my second Technical degree for Metal Fabrication as a returning student. I delayed going back to school for years for lots of reasons, but mostly because I thought it would be as awful of an experience as High School was. Instead the teachers in my program were excellent. I was always challenged by the projects and supported in my learning in equal measure. If you're looking to get into welding or Metal Fabrication, these programs are career fields that need people, pay well, and you can learn them here! Don't sleep on the trade skills that can be taught here. Go to the open houses, see if these are things you're interested in doing. A 4 year degree isn't The guarantee of employment it used to be, but these one year Technical degrees, leading to in demand fields are.Travis H

Very nice tech college. Almost everyone you come across on campus can point you in the right direction. I just started school today online. But tomorrow I get to go to campus. It's a clean sanitary environment. There is currently some remodeling going on, so part of the building you cannot access… yet! AC was on, felt awesome. temperature didn't change much room to room either. All the employees seem to know their job very well and are willing to help. I chose Madison Area Technical College because I know many people that have graduated and successfully got into a job they wanted. This school is also smaller than UW Madison so I feel like the learning experience is better, more hands on, more participation versus a large school such as UW Madison.Shane Toycen

The good profs here are all just professors moonlighting from UW Madison, I'd honestly say you should apply to and go to literally any other UW system school before here. The quality of education isn't bad- but they somehow managed to misplace finances and put 650 bucks into collections randomly – without mailing me any notifications, and without a notifications on the online portal. You won't get competency from any of the administrative staff, expect 5 week long waits to see a counselor for any sort of urgent need. If you are a student with a disability – make sure you have additional copies of any medical documentation, they will claim to lose it. Most of the education staff despises the administrative staff and yeah, I can see why.Bee

I have had an amazing experience with Herzing University! I am excelling in my degree choice and I couldn't be more satisfied with my learning experience and the flexibility that the online program gives me.The instructors are all willing to help whenever I have a question, and if they see many students struggling with something, they will post an announcement with some helpful tips on how to proceed through our courses. The learning material is easy to understand, the discussion boards really help me connect with my classmates more than I normally would, the library is full of everything you might need for your studies, and the Coach rooms and Tutoring center are very helpful! I have seen many posts off and on about how students struggled in this school. I have to say the most common thing I see students struggling from in these courses is not doing the assigned work on time, not participating in the discussions, and not following the assigned directions on assignments. We have to take responsibility and do our work (on time!) or we will not succeed, and we should not blame someone else for our lack of trying. Just with everything else in life, if you do not put any effort into something, you will not gain anything from it. I stared with Herzing back in 2013 for my undergrad BSN RN. At that time, school was still establishing itself, therefore, I had some rough time getting through the program, but overall my experience was good. This year I came back for my MSN FNP and let me tell you ))) My experience with Herzing in 2019 is absolutely amazing. This school grew so much! Lots of support, any time you need it, everyone is very attentive and friendly. You still have to do a lots of studying, but isn't what we came here for? I transferred here from another college and honestly it was the best decision I could have made for myself. Herzing works with many different aspects of my life. Specifically, the Kenosha campus although a bit of a drive from home, I absolutely love this place. The front desk staff always says hello when I walk in the door, the nursing staff has been so helpful and always willing to meet and help work with me. And honestly, I’m blown away by the administration (the campus president, the Dean of Nursing, and the Dean of Education). They are honestly what makes this University what it is. They always are there for you, door open, willing to listen and to be a resource/guide for you, to help you to work through issues your having. They may not be able to fix everything, but they sure do everything they can to make your experience amazing and memorable. They have made such a positive impact during my time here. I would definitely consider coming back to be an educator after I become more established in my career as a Registered Nurse. I’m grateful for my experience here and have definitely found my drive and passion to work hard in the nursing program. I am just starting my third semester at Herzing and I can't say enough about the Administration, Professors and staff. EVERYONE is there to help you succeed. It's a small school and because of this it's very comforting to walk down the halls and have staff know your name. I am meeting people and can tell I am going to have lasting friendships. It's a casual, but professional environment where you are a student, but treated like family. I am able to schedule classes when it's convenient for me and when life gets in the way, the staff is VERY willing to work with you so you don't get behind. I decided to choose Herzing to learn Insurance Billing and Coding because they offered classes online, but here were also campuses close to my home. I wasn't sure if I could be successful in juggling my family, a stressful full time job and school. Herzing is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. My online advisor has been there to guide me through many questions. The online educators have been excellent as well. I also have to mention that there are Librarians, and Academic coaches all there to help achieve success! Someone is always there to help me! Students pay tens of thousands of dollars for their nursing degrees only to sit in a 30 minute graduation ceremony with no cap and gown. It's very unfortunate that the staff here downplays such a wonderful achievement. Let's also not forget all of the "refreshments provided afterward"…. there were none. There was a student that passed away and her name was never acknowledged during the ceremony. Sad. Very sad.Tony Robertson

I have a degree in psychology from another university and decided to return to school for my BSN at Herzing Brookfield. The professors are amazing, supportive with every step and are really there for you any time you need them or ask for help. The tutoring is great and the rest of the staff is always there for the students for support, to problem solve, or help with anything as well. Schools in my past, it would take forever to see my adviser, meet with a professor or get an answer from financial aid. At Herzing Brookfield, all of the staff is great, I know my adviser (she was also my lab instructor), and financial aid is great at everything they do for the students here. The smaller class and lab sizes are great because we get much more focused attention from our professors and they really want to see us succeed. I have attended 2 colleges and 2 other universities in my past. I remember two advisers names out of all of those schools. Brookfield is very different because there is no way I would be able to forget my teachers, advisers or the rest of the staff. This has been the best experience I could have asked for.Irene Serrano

I have had the worse nursing experience in my life at this school. They do not teach to the exam so the only information you can rely on is all on your book. The teachers are helpful, but they have no control over what is being tested on the exams. For our first exam the class average was a 60% and this was the highest average between all schools. All of the students have voiced there opinions and we have been ignored. There is nothing possible about Herzing and you will end up failing or teaching yourself how to become a nurse. I have one year left and I want to withdraw so bad. This is not the place you want to be you will be miserable and on edge.China Chyna Chynah

My experience at Herzing has been amazing. I started my journey in 2018 with my Medical Assisting Diploma. The staff is amazing. I graduated in September of 2019 and decided why not go right back (May 2020) and begin my BSN journey. The flexibility in classes, the resources for students and the overall experience so far both times being a student has been amazing. Then becoming an Alumni and getting the help I needed to fine tune my resume and get a job as a Medical Assistant was amazing. I stumbled on pregnancy helpline on google at the winter of 2020 when I had just given birth to second child, a girl, I was looking for where to get free clothing for my kids and boom! I saw I could submit a form to get free clothing! I didn’t believe it at first and then I received an email saying my form is been submitted, I should come for pick up. Wow! I was overjoyed as my little ones could eventually have clothing for winter! Hmmm, what can I say but to say very big thank you! The Sharing Center has been a great blessing to me and my family. I came to the program during my all most last stage of my pregnancy. my child decided to come a couple months months early before due date 😮. I was not prepared for preemie. I'm a single parent working a part-time job I did not have money to get any baby items diapers wipes nothing everything happened so fast. Someone reached out to me gave me share center information I contact them right away and they help me out from day one with the premium clothes the diapers the wipes everything I could possibly need for a newborn baby love it. I was originally looking to do my CNA training at MATC but the courses there never fit into my schedule, especially since I work a full time job in the PM. So when I found Neway Directions and I found out how easy the process was to get started and how consistent the class schedule was I knew that I needed to start the course right away and I’m so thankful I did. The instructor was very helpful and used our class time so efficiently that it was obvious she’s been doing this for a while. Even in COVID conditions Neway Directions and their staff made sure we were still being trained well and staying safe. What an amazing experience! This course is intense and informative. The instructor, (Nurse Teresa), always ensured we had clear instruction and understanding. She went beyond the text and exposed us to what being a CNA would actually be like in multiple settings. She engaged us in critical thinking games, pop quizzes, and even Pizza parties where we were able to get to know each other on a more personal level. The atmosphere here at Neway Directions was light hearted. They can see your potential when at times you can't see your own. I am grateful for the opportunity to have attended classes here. My mother has been in memory care since January … and if you asked her opinion, she'd say everyone is so kind, the food is excellent, and her apartment is very nice (small kitchenette, TV area/bedroom, private bath … not the small hospital-like one room at other facilities we toured)! Patti does an outstanding job managing her incredible staff to provide capable and compassionate care in a clean and comfortable environment. I'll be missing several staff, but I'd particularly like to recognize Debbie, Maricela, and Rovie. Special thanks to Mischelle who works tirelessly to engage all memory care residents in a wide variety of Montessori based programming and enrichment activities (guests are encouraged to participate!). Coventry Village is referred to as one of the best communities to live in Madison. The staff is friendly, the building is always clean, and the food is fantastic (though it helps having a professional chief preparing the meals!) Above all else though, it's the people who call Coventry Village home that are the light of the community. When the staff enjoy what they do and the residents are happy and taken care of, it truly makes the world of a difference! Also, Eric makes setting up a tour super easy and is extremely accommodating! The administrator Mariah has also been there for years and is absolutely adored by the residents and staff. Great residence. My father loves it here. Loves the friends he has met and hos very roomy and comfortable apartment. It comes with a meal plan too. This was one of the best selling points for my father as he is by himself and is no cook by any stretch of the imagination. He is however a vegetarian and unfortunately they DO NOT provide vegetarian meal choices. Coventry Village provides healthy, delicious full entrees to choose from that would be respectable for any restaurant. In fact every single resident is offered 2 choices provided you are not vegetarian. Great place for your parents unless of course they have dietary restrictions and need to eat.T B

What a wonderful place to live in your senior years! Each resident is treated with the utmost respect and care, and there is a true effort made to make everyone feel very much at home. With a craft room, library, cafe, and areas in which to either exercise or relax and read, there is something for everyone. There are also a variety of programs and activities available to keep folks engaged, involved, and educated. Proximity to stores and services is great, and transportation is made available when needed. The apartments and rooms are spacious and bright with the ability for each resident to create their own comfortable space. Oh . . . and did I mention the lovely gardens?? The staff and volunteers work together to make sure all of the residents have great quality of life. This is where I would hope to be able to live if I were looking for a senior community with various levels of living.Christina Barley

I volunteer at Attic Angel Community and have really enjoyed my experiences there. The staff is wonderful and the residents a joy. There is always something going on! With a location so close to Madison, there are many residents who have moved from afar to be near their children who are working at the University. My Mom, now deceased, lived at Oak Park Place for ten years, beginning with The Arbors independent living, then graduating through regular assisted living and eventually to memory care, with a few weeks' stay in the skilled nursing area as well. I visited her frequently, became familiar with the different areas, and was satisfied with her care. The facility is beautiful and clean. Food was good. Activities were varied and appropriate. Staff turn-over was my main concern, but likely no more problematic than at most similar facilities. Staff communicated with me when something serious occurred, and offered suggestions for things I could do or provide for improved care. Management was always welcoming and responsive when I brought issues to their attention. They helped to make the transitions from each level of care to the next very smooth. Oak Park Place was the place I chose, out of 4 places that I toured, for my wife who had dementia. They took very good care of her. My wife resided in the Memory Care Unit in AL 2. They took very good care of her. I could no longer live alone so I to the Oak Park Arbors Independent Living to be near her. When she passed, I stayed in my independent living apartment as I made some friends. I then had a MI- Stroke and went to the Oak Park Nursing and Rehab for 4 months. From there I then moved into the Assisted Living in AL 2 which is adjacent from the main building. I find this to be very nice and comfortable. The staff is great, we laugh a lot and get serious when need be. It is a great campus as you can go to different areas for activities, rest and relaxation.Ken Brunner

We are so grateful to have found Oak Park Place for my sister’s dementia care. There are many positives but the staff is their best asset! Trained caregivers have skills to redirect my sister and to offer alternative times or activities. They have had so much patience with my sister during her adjustment and with us as a family as we have been grieving her rapid onset illness. During the Pandemic Oak Park staff have helped us with many virtual visits and also safe in-person visits. Medical appointments are also facilitated online. We hesitated to bring her to a dementia care unit but now I wish we had done it sooner. My sister used to stay in bed with no interests; and now, gratefully we can hardly find her in her room much of the day.Carolyn Koepp

Awful communication through phone and email. Long lines at the clinic – you need to arrive 45 minutes early. The only perk is great prices. Took our doodle puppy here for a simple neuter and an umbilical hernia. Took him home (he was so stinky after being there all day!) and noticed a few days later his hernia was still there. Called and they said “Oh, looks like we forgot to do that.” They wanted to put him back under anesthesia to do it… like it was no big deal. This place is quick, careless, and not somewhere I would recommend to anyone who loves their pet. I wish I would have just paid my vet’s high price to take care of my pup.Elaina Genthe

Should have read reviews before coming here. They gave me back my two cats, and one of them was completely covered in his own pee, and was still bleeding from his incision. They just told me to pretty much deal with it. So now I have to try and wash him around his incision so it doesn’t get infected. The workers there are so so nice, let me come in and hold her for distempter when I explained to them that she is very anxious without her handler. OMG!!! My neighbors father in law was here this past year and I heard such horror stories of his stay there and how the family had to get him the hell out of there. They had told me of a nursing care facility that he was at before he passed away of cancer but never the name of it. So when my Dad now needs a rehab center after his leg amputation and they heard that our hometown EMT recommended Capital Lakes because his grandma is there I had no idea that there could be two totally different cases in the same company. Yes all your reviews are great but this blew me away!!! So no I am not taking sides and no I am not visiting and no I am not sending my Dad to you either! So if there are bad experiences happening there i should think that you are willing to let the family of Peter Nelson Deforest WI know that action was taken on all the staff that left him there with mouth sores, poop in every in of his bed, including that the room react of it too, plus a few close rooms with other patients were having the same issue. Even the staff was asked to help their family members and were bluntly told off and said they were to over worked to get to everyone. No these are not lies because the wife ( Bonnie ) should have turned you all in even if it was an isolated incident to become public knowledge. There are many reasons why I am familiar with nursing homes / rehab centers in the Madison area including my wife's career was as a nurse and administrator of nursing homes; I have a sibling who is a patient in skilled nursing; and recently I was a rehab patient in two area centers. Capitol Lakes Skilled Nursing Care and Rehabilitation is exemplary model for nursing care, rehabilitation and food service. Regardless of their position, each nursing staff member truly cares for the patients – as though they were family – and staff treats all patients with respect; and is there when needed. The physical therapists are very knowledgeable; they are sensible and friendly motivators, that is, they know when to push the patients and when to ease up; and they, too, treat you with dignity and respect. The meals are exceptionally good, that is, flavorful, well prepared, and delivered hot. The patient is offered a variety of choices for each meal and you cannot go wrong. And you will not go wrong if you choose Capital Lakes skilled nursing or rehabilitation.Benedict Di Salvo

This is a wonderful retirement facility, where my mother resides. It includes senior housing, assisted living and a nursing home, all on site. The apartments are beautiful, and includes full kitchens, wood flooring, central heating and a/c, dishwasher and disposal, in unit washer and dryer and some units with a gas fireplace. There are 3 separate dining facilities, a hair salon, a fully equipped gym with 2 pools and a hot tub and entertainment provided almost every night. Best of all, it is about 2 bocks off the square. This location has issues with overflow similarly to the Northside location. The worst overflow Goodwill location is off of Verona Rd next to the Home Depot on the west side of Madison. At the East side location, the figures section, vase, and picture section is not overstocked. The toy section, office/miscellaneous section is. I found one brokem item in the figures section priced at $3.99. It was a stone carved elephant. The books section was very orderly and easy to access. The toy section is chaotic. The backpack/bag area could use some work. They don't seem to have enough hooks for how many bags they have out on the floor. Their prices seem to have increased at this location and the Northside location (as well as in the city of Verona). As a shopper, I wasn't nearly as stressed out shopping at this location as I was shopping at the Northside location. Every Goodwill has it's strengths and it's weaknesses. The clothes section almost never seems to be an issue, except that you cannot try anything on in any Goodwill store. They did away with the regards program maybe a year ago and now they almost always ask me to chip up – donate more $ to help their organization. They already receive items for free that they sell to earn a profit for their organization. At this point in time, I'm rather annoyed by the continual asking of whether I'll chip up. With no rewards program, I'm looking to take my business elsewhere (i.e. Agrace, SVDP, and Boomerangs) and/or to the Goodwill store in Waukesha where they have cleaner, more organized stores and a rewards program. I was very excited to go shopping but as I checked out my card declined. I offered to pay another way because I know I’ve been having troubles with my bank recently. They refused, took my card to the back and called the cops on me. Never once did they ask for my ID so I could prove it was my card. They made the cops drive all the way there and right when they got there they let me go. The staff is very unprofessional and I did not even get an apology when everything was there wrong doing. Too much stuff on the shelves. Everything is tangled up in other items and hard to look at. Prices are CRAZY!! $5.99 for a used baby sleeper?! Every time I put mstc in gps I end up at the police station. I put midstate technical college and the gps takes me to the campus..its a little far for me so I keep forgetting to make the distinction in the name until I end at the stupid police station and… it is just very frustrating…the campus is worth the visit though. This school is a joke and I am so disappointed in them. I feel like they try to create barriers for the students rather than help them graduate in a timely manner. Great teachers and students. I could really learn here. Often I hear that people flunk classes etc at other schools because they don't understand the material. However, at BTC, I was able to really grasp the concepts and further my education. Teachers are willing to help outside of class if need be as well. Only dislike is the Student Success required class…I'm a straight A student and feel this class should only be required if you have low grades or be an optional course. I have never had a bad experience with a teacher here. They are always well informed and good at explaining solutions in multiple ways. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is based on the fact that they like other colleges make you take some pretty useless classes. I really didn't learn anything from oral communications and that other class where all you do is 5 classes new student success. What a waste of time. The teacher was great though. The staff at Blackhawk Technical College will do whatever possible to help students (and potential students) with all personal achievements/goals. Blackhawk's instructional faculty is reputable & well-informed. Blackhawk now offers cost-free tutoring in a newly remodeled room, just for this purpose. This is an excellent tech school. Union South, at the University of Wisconsin, is the place to be prior to UW home football games. The marching band makes an arrival about an hour before kickoff and showcases the incredible talents of one the country's best college bands. Enjoy a New Glarus Spotted Cow beer and loaded brat and you'll think you're in heaven. Well, maybe it's just Madison, but it's about as perfect it is gets. Then join the band for short march under the Camp Randall arch for a nostalgic walk into the home of the Badgers.Dave Chaimson

Very large campus, with I believe 35k students on average. The campus and it's buildings are very nice. Luckily, I visited before school started, so it wasn't busy at all. University of Wisconsin-Madison even has it's own ice cream shop! I believe that UWM runs it's own dairy. The path by the lake is also very beautiful, and I would recommend walking there. My only complaint is that everything seems to be very spread out, but that's a good way to get steps.Griffin May

Great school. The safest school. Beautiful lakeshore. Academic quality is very high. Very strong for sociology, psychology, education, biochem, chem, chem eng., etc. Good place for raising kids on campus for grad students. ‼️‼️Long post – Alverno College is pocketing student's REFUNDABLE $100 tuition deposits ‼️‼️ Back in January I was accepted into a graduate program at Alverno College in Milwaukee. After being accepted I was urged to put down $100 as a tuition deposit to "hold my spot" because spaces were very limited. Excited to start this program, I eagerly put the money down the day I found out I was accepted. I couldn't enroll in classes until I was awarded financial aid. I submitted my FAFSA file to them when I applied and was waiting for Alverno's financial aid department to let me know what I was awarded. The total cost of the program is roughly $52,000. I was only awarded $20,500 (my credit isn't good enough for personal loans and I have absolutely no one to co-sign for me). Like most people, I could not afford to pay for the rest of the program out of pocket and had no choice but to tell Alverno I couldn't attend. Last week I realized that they never refunded my $100 that was meant to go towards my tuition. They emailed me back saying the $100 is nonrefundable, and that it was stated as such on my acceptance letter. That much is true, it DOES say the fee is non refundable on my acceptance letter. Out of curiosity, I looked at the Admission Policies on their website and it states that $100 tuition deposits ARE refundable until May 1st. The DEMSN program guide states that the $100 goes towards a student's first semester tuition. If I never had the chance to start the program, where did this money go? And how many other students have they done this to? I spoke with the Enrollment Director of the DEMSN program (Sean Walker) and he did nothing but argue with me on the phone, cutting me off and comparing my situation to the time he "put down $500 on an apartment and decided not to take it". I told Sean that it's INSANE that this college is taking students money AT ALL, let alone in the midst of a global pandemic. His response was "there was no pandemic when you applied." I've accepted that I probably won't see my money again, but people need to know about their shady business practices and how little they care about their hard working students that are giving EVERYTHING they have to make a better life for themselves. These are NOT Christian values and I'm so sick of big companies stepping on the little guys.Monet Padilla

I will be as blunt and honest as possible. The business office/financial aid office has absolutely the worse kind of people. The women in this office are super rude to you and even when they make mistakes on their end regarding payments…they still don't apologize!! They make you feel like a criminal standing in there being accused of not paying, when payments are made in advance! Oh and when they are proven wrong…all they have to say is, oh this is taken care of now..TERRIBLE. TERRIBLE. TERRIBLE. You would think with the amount of money they make on students tuitions that they would get their business office together. Just get it together Alverno..your students are not your enemies. In fact, your students are why you even exist. Also they don't transfer credits, so you are either there until you graduate or just threw away a boat load of money.Christina

Don't waste your time here. Their nursing program is a joke. Half the time you are teaching yourself yet paying thousands of dollars. The professors make up their own rules as they please and don't follow their own syllabus. They are constantly changing their rules and criteria, they will not tell you the changes until you meet with your advisor about something. Nothing transfers to other schools so be sure you are going to finish here if you plan on attending. I would never recommend this school to anyone. They don't value you as a student. They screw you over. Definitely look elsewhere!!! Don't waste your money or time. I've done enough of that for all of us.Crystal

My wife went to Marquette Nursing School in Pleasant Prarie. She hated it. The instructors were completely unorganized and unprofessional. They would change plans and assignment due dates seemingly at random. They would not announce scheduled until a few days before the semester started. Students were told that they shouldn't plan on going ot weddings, vacations, or other events because they couldn't guarantee that it wouldn't interfere with the schedule, since no schedule had been made yet. One student was forced to leave the military reserves on threat of being forced to start the entire program over again, and pay tuition again. There were times where she had an assignment to do that was due on a Saturday, but she couldn't start on it until Friday when it became "open" in the computer system so that she could see the requirements. Sometimes instructors wouldn't even fix grades on tests when the question on the exam was incorrect. She had to drive 3 hours one-way for some of her clinicals, work for 12 hours, then drive 3 hours back because the instructors were too lazy to try to find local hospitals that would allow the students to shadow working nurses. One of the of the instructors even told some of the students "The degree you're earning is worthless. No one is going to want to hire you."Dilan Güneş
