Philander Smith College is a mold infested rodent infested campus where they don’t put any money into the students or the dorms living situation they only care about the money the washer and dryer is barely work and you can smell mold in your room and in your shower. I also was assaulted at philander Smith College twice in the Staff field to do anything about the situation so after the school year I decided not to come back but when I went up there to get my transcript they tried to charge me $250 for the situation but as a whole Philander Smith College failed me In many of my peers this college is overpriced and the teachers don’t care about your education for real I wish I never attended this college!!!!Douglas Official

This college registration process is "TRASH"! We will definitely be rethinking our "Spring" school selection. I have seen a lot of things go wrong with registration but this takes the cake. The rude unprofessional staff gave us the run around for 3months. She will not get a refund for the room and board we paid for that was not available. She was given a very unreasonable and unrealistic schedule, and now has to sit out for a semester. I'm a very unhappy mother. I would not recommend this school to anyone. Depending on your major this could defer. I'm speaking for CIS. Wallace was a joke. Guy obviously knew the stuff but his teaching capabilities were terrible. You ask a question or tell him you're having issues with an assignment and he tells you to go to disability services? Not me but someone I knew. Guy would not help with assignments. If you didn't get it he would just keep going. But on all assignments he doesn't grade them. His homework and labs were always given 100% as long as you turned in something even blank. It's a joke that you can spend thousands upon thousands trying to get an education and all this campus cares about is making a profit. Also the campus gives you only 200 pages to print. I've had one class need to print 100 pages in a week. After that it's 10cents a page. That adds up and paying thousands of dollars already should cover it. If you want a degree sure go here. The teachers to me are awesome and willing to work with you if you have questions don't be afraid to ask because they will get you an answer. Ms. Lamb is one of the best. So let me rant. The school has issues a few which they addressed immediately so that was a plus. But omg supplies we never have any how are we supposed to be successful in phlebotomy and don't have anything to practice with. They want you to have so many sticks but no equipment to do so. If they get the structure of the school together and also get the right amount of supplies to accommodate students it will be a little better. Also they need to have a week where you can have volunteers come to get blood drawn because the other students don't want to participate. I would have to say this is one of the most unprofessional unorganized schools ever! Teachers came and went when I was there. Only a handful truly care! Jade has been a God send in all of this mess, but I would recommend if you can go to another program please do it! Graduation was supposed to be in August and then postponed until October and now October is here and can take a photo or anything in caps and gowns, proper preparation would have avoid this, but the school is just like well your working and have a diploma so oh well! BC my mother passed away and I was unable to reinstate my dental assistant license bc I was out of town for a month I wasn't thinking straight at that time…. Childcare Network on Kanis has become part of my family. My daughter started with the school–yes I consider it a school– when she was only 10 weeks old. She's my first and only child, so I was absolutely terrified to leave her with anyone, much less strangers. The teachers and staff have demonstrated that they LOVE my child and are truly excited to see her each morning. She loves all of staff right back. In fact, some of her first words were names of her teachers. And all of her teachers, past/present/substitute, greet her by name when she walks in the front door. She's now almost 2 and still loves going to school. There is no perfect daycare/school, but this place is perfect for us. No, they don't always have time to talk with me in the front office or answer my calls/emails right away– because they are busy taking care of my child and all of the other children entrusted to them. Yes, teachers are sometimes tired and frustrated, like all of us, but they take the responsibility of caring for children to heart and put that responsibility first. From the director to the food prep staff, each person has shown us nothing but kindness. I highly recommend this location to friends.Lyndsey Lewis

This daycare has gone down hill. When my son first started there it was great, the previous director Mrs. Allmon was amazing. The staff were very professional and had a genuine love and care for the kids . Now my son cries EVERY morning. He has stated that his teacher hits him ( which I addressed it with the new director, to only now find out that the same teacher was only suspended for hitting another child). When I told them I was potty training my son they would still put pull ups on him and then said if he wears underwear he will just sit on the potty all day.Tgey even sent him home with a pull-up under his underwear.The director is not very inviting and gives off very bad vibes. My son has come home with ringworms on more than one occasion. I am to the point now that I will be taking him out of daycare until I can find him another one.. Absolutely HORRIBLE place to put your child. Director lies and put on a front about the daycare. No educational content- no art projects NOTHING. (2yr old class) the teachers lie about everything on kids report. I walked in to my child sick laying on the DIRTY floor. I didn’t get a call to come get her or nothing. EVERY TIME I dropped off and picked up my child almost every single child in her class has a wet face from runny nose and crying. They never had enough teachers for the teacher child ratio and I even saw the older kids (3-4) being left UNATTENDED. The daycare also just recently had a RSV outbreak.. they do not clean AT ALL. I regret putting my child in this facility with everything in me. I’m writing this review to help future parents looking for childcare. DO NOT put your infant/ toddlers in this place unless they just totally revamp and get rid of everyone.Tiarra C

I enrolled in a Medical Assistant program here with hopes of obtaining my CMA and working as a CMA while I return back to college to further myself. Upon enrolling I was told that we would be able to take our certification anywhere in the U.S. that was not true. Also, we were told that we would be placed at jobs insuring that we had jobs after we gained our credentials, this NEVER happened almost 2 months later and I still don't have employment as a Medical Assistant. We were supposed to participate in an externship while enrolled in the course, but I passed my National test and obtained my certification before any of this happened. This is extremely disappointing and frustrating. You do something to try and make a better life for yourself but nothing comes of it.Ashley Campbell

I had the pleasure of obtaining my CCMA license here recently through AECC whom is partnered with Vincennes University . Mr Nathan McKee was my instructor and he was nothing short of phenomenal with his patience , encouraging words and his ability to work with my fellow classmates and I and teaching us so much information in a 14 wk span; as well as giving each of us or one on one lessons during our phlebotomy and EKG technician training , Mr. Nathan relentlessly made it his mission to get each one of us prepared for the medical field. I cannot thank Mr. Nathan enough for being the best instructor I have ever had and because of him I can now use my new license to provide a better life for my children and I .Ashley Hatton

Nathan was a great instructor and great at providing real world insight. He was incredibly knowledgeable and overall awesome. Keep him and pay him more! The overall program is an awesome opportunity for those starting or changing careers. I'm grateful for the experience. Improvement can be made to the responsiveness of office staff to emails. This place is a zoo!! Little organization & even less caring. I was in a vehicle crash in February. The ED was great. I had to undergo repeat imaging after I was released to confirm that I have a couple of fractures & several other areas that will need treatment. The Radiology department staff was really nice when I had a MRI performed. My Dr office kept trying to get the results. St Vincent had the results for over 2 weeks!!!!! They kept telling my Dr office (who sent daily record requests & called the medical records department SEVERAL times) that there wasn't a patient with my name!! I had to physically go to ST Vincent to get my results!! It took about 10 minutes!! It so happened that the reason why my records weren't found was because they had inserted ONE extra letter into my last name!!!! Nevermind that there was a similar name with my same dob & address with the same problem diagnosis!!!!! Incompetence!!!! I've been a Nurse for 12 years now & I know how this stuff works. It should have been a simple phone call to verify the name spelling!!!! Not difficult!! This significantly created a delay in my care. I tried 4 times to reach out to Administration about this huge fumble & I NEVER received a call back. This hospital is atrocious & I wouldn't take my cat there!!!!!Danielle Kraker-Harford

I’ll start off by saying the only reason I had my surgery here is because Dr.Mooney was whom I wanted doing it and he was excellent. Once I got to a room is where things went south. They are extremely unorganized, they forgot to bring me dinner, the machine went off for 45 min in the room and I had to call 3 times before someone came and checked it. There was a couple of nice nurses but none one seemed to know what was going on. My post op care was extremely poor and I hope it hasn’t affected my recovery. I would seriously exhaust all other options prior to using them.Tony

I've been here since Sunday afternoon and had the best care at night. The night nurses have been wonderful. Mercia and Tyson were the very best! The day time nurses either need help or are not capable of doing this job. I've had to wait for hours to get my requested medications. I've never been in a hospital with a Kidney stone and had to beg for pain medication not to mention my other medications. I called for medication at 7:15 am and it is now 9:20 am. Ridiculous! I really just want to walk out! I can be miserable at home!Dana Snow

It’s a known fact that these people only care about MONEY! they do not off support to their staff we were told that NUMBERS are more important than our sanity…. They accept kids without having the staff to correctly care for them. Teachers are forced to deal with child with certain needs with no training… they don’t let you take off your forced to call in and miss pay. They don’t care how stressed out their teachers are and refuse to look into issues brought to them. Management will cover their own backs and throw you under the bus for absolutely no reason. Kids are constantly getting hurt and instead of taking ownership management covers up the facts be careful with your kids and your job when dealing with this place… the turn over rate is extremely high and you will not be respected by teachers or parents this is not a good place to work or bring your kidsLaquita Sumpter

This facility they lady at the front desk is very rude and disrespectful. They would not see my child for a speech evaluation because I could not pay them the full quoted price upfront and not just pay half then be billed as I was told over the phone was an option. They will not work with low income families that don't qualify for state aid. They are money hungry jerks. Then after the speech evaluation is done and therapy starts they want to bill the card on file directly and not actually send you a bill and let you pay it.Christopher Coning

This happened on 9/24/21….they didn’t even call me to inform me of what happened!!! All they gave me was excuses…saying my child was in another child personal space!!! 2 times!! well, my experience at seark college, when i was there, we had a big giagantic tour of the school, it has a founder's hall and social lounge. then afterwards, they served us lunch, we had cakes, cupcakes, and lots of great music and just chilled and hung out together while there, seark is a wonderful place and it can also help you with your future, places that could also help you with simply finding you the perfect job. that you would like to succeed in the future. i would love to be a registered nurse because i love working with people that are disabled, have learning skills, and just a bunch ofother things. and i hope that my letter will help that person make a difference in someone elses, as well as it has done mine.miranda allen

The worse nursing program ever! I know several students that have went here for nursing and their turnover rate is ridiculous. These students have left their jobs and families to be apart of an unorganized program. I wouldn’t recommend this school for their nursing program at all. Like I said, I haven’t attended the college, but I know SEVERAL students and good students at that who have attended and have went through it here. There is a good amount of age and race diversity in this small campus. It is small enough that you start recognizing people throughout the campus after your first semester but big enough you can avoid people if necessary. The students are friendly and welcoming and I have made lifelong friends here. A lot of the teachers are great and truly care about their students and are willing to help them outside of class. The financial aid can be tricky at times but they always got things worked out in the end. There are fun social events as well as opportunities to listen to various speakers every few weeks throughout the semester (with snacks provided). It is also a beautiful and well maintained campus. I will miss National Park when I have to transfer to a four year University. NPC has truly given me the BEST college experience I could have asked for.Last

I am currently a student here and have been for over a yr now. Great place to earn a 2yr degree or tech certificate! A little pricey as far as fees and tuition but the campus is beautiful and the new Student Commons is an awesome addition to the growing campus.Marisha Crain

Good luck trying to get information over the phone. Agree with the earlier comment and I've been going here for over 2 years part-time. You will HAVE to go to the school to get any information, ever. You can call every single person on the faculty list for Admissions and Records and will get voicemail 100% of the time on any given day. You will be told wrong information from some advisors so I've been really careful to get second opinions. I was told I needed X amount of credits to graduate by one advisor only to find out that in my last semester I actually needed 7 classes. Had to take all 7 in one semester if I wanted to graduate as planned. I did it but it was hell. Certain professors are not to blame for the lack of admin support. I've had some great professors and good classes but the infrastructure is severely lacking and unfortunately, that is the first impression many get of college. If you are not prepared to take on every little issue by yourself, pick another school.Chelsea Thompson

i only gave 3 for some reasons, first, make sure you do keep communicating staffs here since no one told me about my college transcript ( had to order another one from different college) 2nd, there were no communication at all to let me know whats going on when i found out that there were some conflict according to my email they sent. The process to get in may be a hassle but if you do not give up and fight to get things done then it will be worth it. Make sure your college transcript says your last enrollment if transferred like me. If you are taking classes at another college then there will be conflict here. Just heads upKayla Kolton

Do your basics here. Quick, cheap, and easy. Then transfer over to your 4 year college which will more than likely be UALR. NEVER let your guidance counselor "guide" you. In other words, do NOT allow them to make your schedule without double checking it. 99% of the time you will be put in classes that you don't even need which means it will take you longer to graduate. Don't be a dummy. Get a print out of the classes that you need for your degree and just start putting them on your schedule. Don't waste electives by taking some class you don't need. Take a class that counts towards your degree as an elective.Patryk

I was originally a student at a private school in Texas. One of the best in the world. So when we had to move here for a family illness, I was highly guarded about what I would find in quality at a public school…especially in Arkansas. Although I had three advisors screw up my plan three times in a row, I finally got the assistant dean as my advisor. She was wonderful and I am a graduate of the College of Arts, Letters and Sciences. I have to say I was highly impressed at the level of education and support that I received at UALR. Additional to a quality education, I was impressed with administration and the people's willingness to help me when I needed it and to call me back when they said they would. Teachers are mostly helpful. I was an online student so availability in a teacher is key. Sure there was one or two that weren't the best at it but I fortunately am tech enough to get myself through what I needed. I did not witness and racism, homophobia or bigotry on campus between students and teachers. However it seems to me that a lot of angry people in the reviews feel differently. I personally did not witness it. Additionally, my wife is an adjunct professor here and I know for a fact she cares immensely and passionately about ALL of her students and a lot of students are looking for excuses to not do the work but to get credit for nothing. It's not a food line, it's college. You want a good grade? You have to do the work and you have to do it well. You are adults. Act like it. A lot of people I met were just adult high schoolers in their maturity level. THAT is not UALR's fault.Sid

If you have the patience to deal with lack of communication and knowledge of the most basic things like me than apply if you do not avoid this school like the Black Plague! Seriously! I am in process applying for the nursing program transferring from out of state University. Mr. Jon Vickers never answer the phone or give you a call back, I literally call this man 10 times in the past two weeks and no answer or phone call back! He is suppose to be head of nursing department but he never answer any calls. Front desk people could never answer the most basic questions like “ when are the nursing application going to be available” they always transfer me and no one every seems to be available. The university has gone straight up in the past 10 years. They have established one of the top 3(possibly the very top) engineering and have partnered with a great medical school(UAMS). The money they have been given helped to secure talented professors and great staff. Past that though, they have started to recruit high end students and provide scholarship money for all. For example, I received a full ride plus some spending money as a result of my "high performance" (read as standardized test scores). Be aware that, like most other state colleges, most awards are based off of test scores and having above a 3.5 in high school. Overall, the school has a bit of a bad rap around Arkansas because of what it was over 50 years ago, but it has become a competitor for the best in state college and is definitely still headed up.Red Rabbit

It's a wonderful place. The population isn't the largest (the college is located in a dying, povertous town & is probably half of the town's revenue) but everyone's nice, experienced and willing to let you drink as much coffee as you like or do their best to help you with subjects you struggle in. The college even have a bus to transport sudents whom have limited or no transportation of their own! About COVID19: the college is rated as the second safest in the state of Arkansas, despite in-person learning being an option for courses. There are dedicated contact-tracing staff, plentiful sanitation supplies, and you can always go fully online if you like. Context: I'm attending courses for an I.T/Cybersecurity degree. Cindy Grove is a wonderful teacher, as is Arthur Gentry, Kayla Holland, the list goes on! Doctor King, Doctor Johnson, and basically all of the people found within the administration building are wonderful to talk to and be around. I haven't met anyone I dislike and yet I have been here for a fair while. I've even attended as a work-study until my physical and mental disabilities nuked my ability to do so, and until that day I had a great time.Orrion

As a recent graduate of the RN program, I can confidently say, no one should ever attend this school. They will take as much money as they can from you, and half of the instructor written questions make zero sense. If you want to attend a program where administrators will help you out if they know your family, this is the one for you. If you want a program where the Dean of Nursing looks like the great value version of Paula Dean, clearly is taking too many benzos, and your words go in one ear and out the other, this is the program for you. Save yourself time and go to UALR or JRMC, or really any other Nursing program. Don't forget to check this school's NCLEX pass rates and accreditation status, before you apply. If I could give negative stars I would. Even though I have graduated from this school. I would not recommend anyone to attend. If your records do not get lost by its employees then the instructors will attempt to degrade you intellectually. Too many individuals at this school spend their time focused on the wrong things. I took the course close to 3 years ago. Mrs. Loy was very professional, helpful and knowledgeable. It took 4 weeks to complete and I was able to go at night after work (5-9pm). I was sponsored by a nursing home to go to her class for free (they paid for it) and I had a job as soon as I completed the program. Mrs. Loy provided all the tools I needed to take the state test and we practiced the clinical tasks daily. She really makes it easy to learn! I highly recommend her program.Melissa Fiorino

PAL CNA is a great program! I took the class before I got into nursing school, and it helped me out so much when I got in. The things that you are taught not only help in teaching you to be a great CNA, but a great nurse too if that’s what you are wanting to do. With the knowledge that I gained from this course, I was able to work in varying positions at various hospitals with ease and confidence. I took this class 2 years ago, Ms Loy is an amazing instructor who is patient and very professional. I absolutely love being a CNA I worked in a long-term care facility for a year and I moved over to In-Home Care working for a family in their home. With the instruction that I recieved from PAL CNA Academy I felt completely comfortable and competent to work in either environment. This is our first night here on the 6th floor with the night shift staff I would not recommend brining anyone here with them. This staff is very rude and you can tell they don’t enjoy their job. I asked a nurse what we could do to get the patients HR down because they couldn’t catch a good breath, he told me he wasn’t respiratory and not to ask him that kind of question, he then walked out and shut the door. I asked them at least three times for help and they would tell me “be there in a minute” they would never come. It took me going down the hall to get another nurse before they came in the room to do there job.Andrea West

Our initial intake at Cornerstone was chaotic but the care that my Son received after that point was great. The RNs that we had during our 2 week stay were amazing. RN Jim, Carrie, Codi went so far above there job duties to show our Son true compassion on top of their phenomenal nursing knowledge.
