This college is my top choice because it is affordable, not overcrowded, has a super clean and safe building, and has no historically known hate crime in the area, which is an A+ in today's environment. There is plenty of parking, as well as the best tutoring center, which is a lifeline for students who want to improve their grades or need assistance with the curriculum. NCC carry the highest standard. They have the best tutoring service and professors who are committed to assisting students. All you have to do if you need help navigating any area at NCC is ask. It's a good starting school but extremely disorganized with idiots for employees. Dr Apple or apfel is a complete and total moron. She is so ungodly useless. She is extremely disorganized no wonder all of the students hate her. She wouldn't shake our hands because she said that's how germs are spread. Get rid of this delusional troll! She made an appointment for 12 and then when we got there said it was for 4pm. Um hello!? This school is so DISORGANIZED. If you're willing to put up with complete chaos for two years then go here. Either believe the previous reviews of 'smelling like poverty and cigarettes', or understand that community college is the last place to find a living, breathing example of the American Dream. On top of that, NCC is the most well-funded community college, the most prestigious, and has the highest share of incredible professors than any other community college in the region. But it won't motivate you to succeed. You have to do that yourself. And if you do not find that drive within yourself in time, do not blame the college for your shortcomings. I recently was enrolled in the graduate cohort for reading and writing. I have been teaching for almost 10 years and found most of the classes insulting. I felt I knew more than the cohort professors and learned very little new. Many of the text books were from early 2000. Considering the vast changes in LA recently, I felt many classes provided information that was not up to curent reading philosphies and/or research. The rubrics were so convoluted that the professors couldn't figure them out or they did not pertain to the topic. Many classes were spent going back and forth over the rubrics only to have them change again. Knowing what I do now, I would not waste the money, but would have done an on-line course for 1/3 the price.K Palmer

As a current junior undergraduate at the University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford, CT, I am very happy here. I came to USJ as a shy, timid girl without the confidence to speak up in class. I am now a confident woman that isn't afraid to voice my opinion or share my insights. USJ has given me the platform to grow as a person and to realize exactly what I want out of college and out of life. In the past, I have always been unsure what the future would hold for me but ever since I've been at USJ my path has become more clear. The ECSU campus renovations are certainly a highlight of the overall look and feel. It does not however, override the experience as a whole. Over college tuition becoming increasingly expensive, this college is relatively cheap. But this is not an excuse for being inefficient, as I have one goal coming here which is learning about what I want to do for a living. I shouldn't have to pay the extra time money and effort attending pointless extra classes that both wear down my savings, emotional and physical wellbeing. It's a joke and if this university made an effort to eliminate said classes, it would 100% reduce depression campus wide and reduce the overall cost and time associated with getting the exact same educational value when you're diving into real world jobs. By my very generous calculation a 4 year degree here is more than half made up of courses that have nothing to do with the degree and can therefore be considered barely a 2 year degree's worth of actual job experience. I do regularly ask myself what I could do in the span of 4 years learning by myself instead of wasting my time coming here. Consider this, every year as a student, K-graduate, you are granted 2 months of time where you can endulge into hobbies interests or self taught without the burden of school work and arbitrary responsibilities. What do you think you could do with 48 months of that same time. Even with a working job you are not held responsible for duties after hours, but for some reason it's normal to both pay to sit down and listen to jabber as well as get held accountable for duties off of class time. If ECSU wanted to be considered a good fit for someone who wants to fly high with wings untethered you would have to strip away 80% of the required courses for any said degree therefore limiting the friction requires to make it year after year. You'd see immediate improvements to student involvement and overall mood compared to what we have now. You are keeping us occupied for no reason, and I think that is a waste of my time and money.William Donnelly

I graduated 3 times from here. Hard to give it a 5 but hard to give it a 3 as well. Is 3.5 an option? I went with 4. This school had some great professors and classes. I can't complain there. It's on par with UConn and much cheaper. That being said, some professors are a little more political than I feel they should be. I can deal with that for the quality of education they have given me, as I had learned a lot here, but thought it was worth mentioning. As for the management, however, it's gotten better since leaving from when I first started, but they aren't always on top of communication. I remember having to be on top of my educational choices more than the school simply because you either couldn't find answers or they contradicted with answers. They could certainly communicate better but have come a long way since when I started there. As a student, I was happy to attend. As someone entering the working world, they did not assist me in doing this very well. Their post-graduate program to set you up for employment isn't spectacular. I got more jog seeking support from the university school I graduated from. I also applied for several jobs at ECSU and have been shot down from the start, even though I feel that I was qualified for them. All in all, I had a good experience as a student, but I do feel there is some inequity in the management, job opportunities, and hiring decisions they make. That being said, being affordable, and getting a good education without loans was the overall goal, and Eastern helped me to do that.Adam Phelps

I went to WCSU in The Woodstock 60's. It was so small then, a blip on the radar with only a few buildings for classes, but something wonderful happened. I was given special attention and sent to Yale University to audition for it's School of Drama and I was accepted. I was coached by a director, an English prof. and a Theater Arts instructor who taught English before there was a Theater Arts program at WCSU. Thanks to them, our tiny group of drama hopefuls had the opportunity to test run a real Off Broadway Play before it was cast. Our director was a friend of the Playwright. I had the lead in that production and thanks to that I was chosen to audition for Yale, and thoroughly coached by the team. Because of them I made it. I did not go to Yale due to personal issues but the point is that there were great people willing to go beyond the scope of their requirements and guide someone to the place where they could succeed. WCSU has grown into a fine institution because it has great roots. Go visit and see what I mean.Judith A Rowland

This University is like a breath of fresh air among the other CSU's, I would highly recommend, from the staff to the OpenClose program which sorts all the classes so neatly and nicely, to the overall atmosphere of the town itself (*thats also because many of the other state colleges/universities are put in very crime filled neighborhoods) WCSU makes its very easy as well to transfer taking ALL transfer credits from the other universities, as well as if your communication major like myself, they offer many classes over the summer to help you catch up or even to learn more. Also i'd like to put out that right now is like the golden age of the communication dept at WCSU literally every professor is awesome in one way or another, even the adjuncts are amazing and that's saying something (Petkanas, Eckstein, Lever, Murtha, Brower, Wiss, Tozzoli, Barone, Woodward just to name a few)Justin Quinn

Got my MBA here. The faculty is quite smart and is genuinely interested in your success. Specifically, the marketing, supply chain, and finance professors are top notch. If you get the opportunity to study abroad for Taiwan, which is available as an undergrad as well, absolutely do it. Amazing people to network with and friends that came out of class, overall very rewarding experience. The college has had notable difficulty with their health and safety as of the writing of this that took 1 star away from my rating. I spent a year and change at the school, but I'd go again if I found the need to go back to school.Eric

This is a really good school if you’re all about your academics. I’ve had my good times and my bad times here at MCC. Overall on the academic side of MCC I appreciate all of the hard work that most of my professors have done. There are professors here that definitely need to be more qualified with what they are teaching as it has affected my grades when I’ve taken their courses. I am an Honor student here at MCC with a GPA of 3.30 and have never once had an issue with organization skills until my 2019 spring semester. A couple of the professors have been unorganized, no syllabus and sometimes they have other priorities when they have to teach a class in other words they put another professor in place when they have to go to another job. Although these were a couple of issues within my time here at MCC I enjoyed the experience of learning new knowledge for my future career. I really liked a lot of my professors but a couple of them have been a little rough. If you communicate with your professors about your issues that you’re having it really helps and shows that you’re determined to do your work and it shows you care about your work as well. Environment wise I’d have to say it’s not healthy (mentally/physically) and or good for many people. There have been students who have left garbage all over the place and don’t clean up after themselves which leads to maintenance having to clean it all up. With my time here I have helped maintenance clean up other people’s messes so they don’t have to worry about it as much. Also the amount of vaping, drug use, and underage drinking in the lounge is unacceptable and nothing has been done to take care of this issue except shutting the lounge down. I feel as if this does nothing but illustrates that they can go elsewhere within the college and do these things. An authority figure should really take this into consideration and do something about this because it affects others who have nothing to do with these people and it ruins people’s Health. You can smell weed from a mile away and if people have asthma or a health condition this could affect them physically. I do not appreciate this at all and I wish something was done about it. The other big issue environmentally is the fact that the main cafeteria can get very loud and some students have no manners and do not respect others around them. If they are asked to quiet down they do the opposite It has gotten to the point where a lot of people have complained and yet nothing is done to prevent this from happening again. The college needs to have some control over what students do and take action on these issues. I wish that there could be some changes here and I hope for the best for everyone at MCC. Overall it is a good school for your academics but is definitely not a mentally healthy place environmentally. Even if you try to get away and go somewhere else for privacy somehow drama follows behind you. A Tip would be after your classes go home if you can or go to the back of the library in the quiet study room. So I will start with sharing my positive highlights of the fall semester during covid. Some teachers were empathetic to the situation the entire nation went through. Prof. Muldoon did such an amazing job touching base and gaining clarity of students frustration and technical difficulties during this time. Prof Diane. Hillyer OMG if I were ever to be a college professor I’d want to have her passion and dedication. She’s a math angel, truly loves her job and her videos were perfect! Now chemistry online and labs online were a joke!!! The professor did not make enough office hours, used YouTube videos from other teachers, used repetitive templates for each week lesson with no data. If I wanted to learn chemistry that way I could’ve honestly gone on Edx.org for FREE and probably have learned the curriculum better. I might of missed 1 assignment and handed in 1 assignment 10 mins late and didn’t receive the grade or support needed. But unfortunately as a paying student I just have to deal with it, 2k down the drain! Funny thing I am also a teacher during covid and actually work in the building with student and never would I have ever made my students feel isolated like this professor did. I’ve never seen or heard my chemistry teachers voice but I’m pretty sure they got paid every two weeks while there’s probably many qualified teachers that could have done a way better job. I was warned about this professor but I learned the hard way. The school overall has a nice faculty and I feel like the majority do care. This is unfortunate when professor get so accustomed to a repetitive lifestyle because blackboard actually graded my exams so again not sure what some professor did during Covid behind the scene and so-called virtual teaching. This is a a good school to start or to get the credits needed for a post-Bach. I decided to go to a private school with a more dedicated team and more virtual teaching experience.Dignora Castillo

I was a potential international student and found Manchester Community College a great place to go. I called the first time and wasn’t able to talk to the responsible for international students but left my phone number and email. Umesh sent me an email saying he would give me a call. He did, two days later and was rude and impatient since the moment I picked up the phone and was acting like he was doing me a favor to call me. He said I should go back to my country and take my visa there instead of changing my status here, which is not up to him, was questioning how I was gonna become a student and more. I can’t even explain how rude and disrespectful he was to me who was just trying to make an appointment to go to the campus and get more informations in person about fees and the I20. I first came to Goodwin for a Manufacturing Career Fair on August 2014. My plan going in was to improve/expand my professional network but after introducing myself to the two ladies at the front door, I was escorted to the admissions office. During this impromptu meeting I learned of their range of Manufacturing programs ranging from a Collegiate Certificate to Bachelor's Degrees. The lady I met with was very nice so I decided to let her run through her whole pitch before refusing. After she finished running through her speech I was about to politely decline when my eyes fell upon a pamphlet detailing their Certificate in CNC Machining. My attitude switched from polite dismissal to serious consideration. By the time the holiday season was in force, I had officially enrolled. From the Spring 2015 – Fall 2016 semesters, I experienced the most fulfilling education of my life. Classes tailored to my major were taught by professors with real-life experience in the manufacturing field. Knowledge gained from operating machines in the school's shop helped me secure my first manufacturing based job (which at the time of this review, I have been at for over a year). Around two weeks ago I walked in the 2017 Commencement with my CNC Certificate AND Associate's Degree (Summa Cum Laude!!!). Making the choice to again become a student with Goodwin College is one I do not regret, in spite of my now increased loan debt. Looking for a quality education with real life application? I graduated in 2006 with a General Business Degree the Staff and Faculty were all very helpful and on top of their jobs. I signed back for classes in 2013 for my Bachelor's Degree in Business unfortunately the staff and faculty changed in a Very Negative way. I had Mr. Rotondo as my Advisor who had me taking classes that i had previously taken also the Black Board Online classes system kept going down I another class were i completed the work on time but their system did not register my work it had been idled for 36 or more hours and never registered my work causing me a NS for the class this caused a snowball affect to the downfall of me no longer attending classes. I talked with Professor Valeria he advised i write some sort of letter which i did explaining the double classes Mr. Rotondo had me take due to him not paying attention to my previous classes for He was my teacher in 2004-2006. So far I love the complex, the professor are really nice and helpful. They want you to pass the class for sure. The only thing I can complain is for the service of Financial Aid. I am a transfer from Lincoln College and when I was about to change they explain me that it would be cheaper or about the same. Before classes start I went to Financial Aid to see how much it was going to cost me, but they didn't have any information of me yet. Then I received a message saying "to not go to financial aid" I could start right away. I went again the day before start and they couldn't tell me anything. They charge already for the semester, it shown in my credit report, this is my third week of class and I do not even know if is the same as Lincoln, more expensive or less.Christian Diaz

I have to admit, after being accepted to the Master's program early in 2014 I was nervous attending graduate school. I was unsure of what type of situations I would encounter, and what type of curriculum I would face. After the first day of orientation, I knew that the University of Bridgeport was the best choice for me. The staff and professors in my department are extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. The classes I have taken have not only improved educational leadership qualities, but have also helped improve my mathematical prowess. Although the classes may seem difficult at time, my professors demonstrated an excellent balance in challenging students while holding their interest. I have created many long lasting friendships as well with the students in my program. In concurrence with our education progress, we find ourselves continuously engaging in a sort of fellowship that I have not experienced elsewhere. In essence, the phrase "work hard, play harder" seems fitting. We have fun in class, and we get to work when we need to. I find that my professors are equally as entertained as my fellow students, helping to aid in the maintenance of the positive climate in the classrooms. If anyone reading this is nervous or unsure of their decision to attend the University of Bridgeport, as someone who previously felt the same way I offer the following advice: don't be. This is a phenomenal University with amazing programs and a delightful professional staff. They will help guide you to success by any means necessary. I am currently a freshman at UB almost finishing my first semester, I am majoring in the health sciences and hopefully 4 years from now I will be doing my masters in Chiropractic. I came to America all the way from Indonesia, I studied at an international school so I have met people from many different countries and cultures, UB made me feel like I never left that sense of living in an international environment because of all the diverse cultures that you find here. Professors, Students and Staff are very open and very supportive if you need any help and the fact that UB is a very small school makes it a better sense of community among students. Classes are good and challenging, resources are provided if in the need of help just like tutoring or counseling. I had the chance to make many close friends in just a few months from different backgrounds, friends that have become a second family to me. As a current undergraduate student studying International Political Economy and Diplomacy (IPED), I've had nothing short of a wonderful experience at UB. I can only speak for my major, but I love my program. Most of my classes are engaging, and my teachers are always available to talk and answer questions outside of class which is much appreciated. The thing that I love most about UB is the diversity. Especially studying in a internationally focused major, there's a huge difference in talking about events throughout the world, and actually hearing a first person perspective from someone who is from that country. This place is a perfect example of “you get what you pay for”. I attended September 2009 – May 2018 (with a 3 year gap from 2012-2015). The hospitality teachers and department head were wonderful, and a lot of my general Ed teachers were amazing too and I have nothing but great things to say about the teachers. However, the registrar office and academic advisors were a nightmare to deal with. No one ever smiles, my message NEVER got relayed to the right person, and it was such a headache to deal with offices equivalent to dealing with the DMV. They also claimed that when you graduate you can transfer your credits to a state college which is false. Some of the credits transferred, but classes like Math don’t transfer and I have to take a placement test to get into the same exact math class I took at Gateway and passed the class with an A. The bookstore staff was the most incapable, rude, useless group of people. Graduation was a completely unorganized joke – they told graduates to arrive 2 hours early to stand in a parking lot with no instruction and 1 porta potty for about 300 people. They also only announce 1 of your degrees – so if you have 3 degrees they won’t even take the extra 5 seconds to announce all 3 (I thought graduation was supposed to recognize your achievements?) I would have never wasted my time going to graduation if I knew how pathetic it would be. Parking on campus in New Haven was crazy and the lot constantly overflows into the Temple Street lot so you get to walk in stairways that smell like urine with bums roaming the lot and drunk people stumbling to their car after your class at 9:30 at night with no security guards to get to your car. Literally no security whatsoever like your completely on your own in a public lot in the heart of New Haven. Like most schools, they don’t allow weapons inside the building so you don’t even have a way to defend yourself if you get approached in the lot which will happen at some point. There were also hospitality classes that I had to buy things out of pocket and was promised reimbursement that never happened.Nina Tiso

I loved working with the children in the Early Learning Center, but the adults in the classroom didn't really treat me that well. They didn't really accommodating me that well when it came to tasks such as setting the table for breakfast,lunch, and snack. A coworker got nasty because I wasnt moving fast enough for her. I'm visually impaired and I have to take my time because of my vision. I had to complain about this coworker 2 times. Another thing that didnt make sense was I had to walk to the other side of campus to eat lunch for my 30 minute break. The teacher of the classroom would get mad at me for being late because I am a slow eater and I cant move fast again because of my bad vision. student teachers aren't allowed to eat in the teachers lounge. I shouldn't have had to complain to my boss about eating in the teacher lounge. This place needs to be more accommodating to student teachers with disabilities and staff needs to be more compassionate. I am very glad that I don't work at this place anymore! I was in their old building on Long wharf years ago, and seeing how they've grown and progressed into what I consider a university now, is life changing for the people attending this college. For a community college, they offer so much for the students with assistance as well as their educational endeavors. When I made the decision to attend Bay State College, I will admit that the size of the school was of concern to me. School seemed great when I toured it, but from day 1 that changed. I didn't recieve any of the assistance or help I was told I'd be able to get/be provided with. The dorms had many issues, such as my room along some of my friends rooms lacked door knobs and even locks. In the winter the heat didn't work at all, and for days at a time there would be no hot water through out the building(s). It normally took a day or longer for any form of maintenance/repairs to be done. Was given very little info about/prior to activities and or things going on at the school. The computers throughout the dorms almost never worked so if you don't/didn't have your own computer you couldn't do basically any of the work you'd need to do (for most all work at the school has to be done on the computer or online) and even if you did have your own computer or the ones in the dorms worked the internet barley ever worked, so no matter what getting work done was very difficult. Also, the attendance policy is very strict and no matter what the situation, whether it be a family emergency or just no going to class because you don't want to, if you miss 3 or more straight classes you get kicked out of the school and with little to no prior warning about being kicked out. Overall, I had many issues and problems (some of which are stated, but not all) with this school, which made for a pretty bad college experience. To finish, this school sucks, and is a complete waste of time and money from the moment you start. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY AND TIME WITH THIS SCHOOL.Adam Hope

I started looking at Bay State College because of the great things I had read and seen online. I requested information and received that promptly. I applied and got accepted. That process was very smooth. I was at a community college before and had some credits that would transfer. Bay State staff helped me with the process and made sure the credits that could transfer would transfer. Fast forward two years. I received my Associate's in Criminal Justice and I am in the Bachelor's program scheduled to be done this year. I have built amazing relationships with professors and staff. They have become more like a family. If I ever have an issue I reach out and someone will always have an answer for me. When they do not, believe me. They find it. There are so many opportunities they have to offer you just have to ask. I am sad my time is coming to an end with Bay State. You would think that this school being a “community college” they are more understanding of financial situations and are more efficient with financial aid an other “programs” they offer. Not this school! Not only does every single person in the financial aid office treat you just like another person asking for handouts but depending on what staff you run into behind the desk you might not even get the correct information! I went to the financial aid office yesterday due to the fact that I found out when trying to register for classes for spring 2018 that I was on a financial “probation” these people gave me NO NOTICE NO CALL NO NOTHING but that’s the least of my worry at this point. I go to their office the girl behind the desk had told me due to me getting a D in my math class last semester of 2017 financial aid was skeptical about covering classes for this upcoming semester so I would have to appeal( good thing I came a week before registRtion was over ) I appeal the form then I get a notice in the mail saying I’ve been only approved for 1 class this semester up to 6 credits. I was a little bothered, but I took it, I go down to finally register once again! Then I was told I didn’t have enough for books an technically they were only covering up to 3 credits an my class is 4 so I owe the school clerk a balance of $23.00 and now I’m also expected to pay for my text book. 6 days before class starts … what happened to the notice they sent me that said they cover up to six credits???? literally because I struggled in my math class last semester an got a D I’m going through all this torture as someone who is barely able to pay my own freaking bills at 20 an living by myself just trying to get my own education, every Semester it’s something else with this school the office people SUCK they are there for a job an that’s it. Then When you ask to speak to someone in charge of financial aide they torture you with hold for atleast a good 20 minutes on the phone ( probably praying for you to hang up) unless your willing to take 2 and three trips down to the office which is no problem probably for someone who doesn’t works full time.so now that the semester is getting ready to start an they feel like they did their part by covering the “majority” of my class (3 out of 4 credits, which my paper says they should cover up to 6 credits at least but whatever) I’m now expected to fend for myself an purchase a $200 text book within the next six days. Professors and fellow students are great but the administration and admissions process is a night mare. Little to no help to navigate threw the process. No one is willing to answer question. They always refer you to another person. Example: Me: Can you please tell me how I can access the wifi here? Advisor: You will have to contact a student advisor for that. Me: :/ Avoid online courses here. Professor did not make access easy. Not clear as to what material is needed. If professor isn't able to help you navigate course or they themselves aren't sure of what to do you will still be responsible for payment. Only time in my life I hired a professional service and they were unable to preform paid for task and I was still responsible for payment. And of course there is no one available to talk to about this and if there is no one knows who it is to refer you. If you do decide to take courses here try to make friends with other students that have already been threw the admissions/ administration nightmare. Don't take online. 1: I registered for a class and dropped it a before week prior to it starting, boy was I in for a surprise bill. $120 for a class I didn’t even step foot in, let alone it didn’t even start when I dropped it. What a SCAM. Of course I had no choice but to pay it. So just be cautious when you’re registering for a class, because you cannot change you’re mind and not expect to pay a fee even if the class hasn’t begun. 2: If you’re “graduating” be sure to wait months for your actual diploma to be delivered. Very unorganized system they have going there. I graduated in may and have yet to receive any proof of it. My transcript is still not updated with my current degree and my diploma is who knows where. Sucks. 3. If you’re receiving financial aid and you’re registered for a class and the school decides they want to cancel it, be prepared to repay financial aid back.S G

Although my professors have been awesome, the university as a whole is horribly disorganized and mismanaged. The various staff of different departments are uniformly rude and uninformed. I've gotten wrong and/or misleading information on basic protocol literally EVERY SINGLE TIME I've spoken with someone (where do I submit work study requests? Can I still carry student insurance if I'm part-time?) Regarding the insurance, I was told "yes" by 2 different pople. HOWEVER, the answer to that is it's automatically cancelled when you register online for classes and it is received as part-time, so then you have to re-enroll as a new client at a higher rate. I found this out when I was trying to fill a prescription and after much investigation found out that my insurance had been cancelled. This is one of the MANY problems I've experienced with Southern administration. Equally as faulty, is the technology "services" that Southern uses. Windows 7 computers in the computer labs that take (no joke) 5-20 mins to log you on if there are more than 3 people in the room and remote printing that requires an installation on your laptop every time you want to use it. This is recommend since you'll otherwise sit for 20 mins for the lab computer to log on and then progress to opening and printing a file at the speed of dial-up. If you need to reach anyone (computing services, the bookstore) for questions, you'll be strained to find contact info outside of the (203)392-SCSU main office number. A detailed Google search rarely finds the phone numbers associated with specific offices. Most recently, for the past month as Southern has started the fall semester, their network has become so overloaded that the mail server periodically un-syncs all of my devices from their email (iPhone, Mac) so I don't get mail or know that an email I sent never actually sent, since it doesn't appear in ANY outbox or draft folder from any device. But since it happens off-and-on, as the SCSU network comes and goes as it pleases, I've not known about the missed emails until someone tells about a group email I missed. Lastly, and kinda most importantly, Southern's crap internet system occasionally doesn't recognize my password for Bannerweb, email, and Blackboard. Confoundingly, this doesn't occur on these applications all in one sitting. MANY TIMES I've sat and typed my password into Blackboard 5+ times and magically after repeated entries it suddenly works!!! Always had the same problem logging into "myscsu" and trying to get my email back online to the Southern server. Recommendation: If you're enrolling as a full-time undergraduate, I would HIGHLY recommend looking for a school elsewhere because you're DEFINITELY not getting your money's worth at this institution. Note: they also have no funding for student work study anymore, so don't count on that for extra money/tuition expenses. If you're taking classes part-time, for a job or continuing education, it will be a frustrating experience, but not a total waste of money. Botton line, I rated 2 stars because the professors and experiences with classmates have been awesome this past year, but the university as a whole is beyond frustrating.Jennifer Vollmer

im usually not the type of person to be negative and leave lengthy reviews but this is so necessary being that im so extremely disappointed with this school! I went for a tour in November of 2017 fell in love with the campus so I decided to apply as a transfer student in April of 2018! I sent in my fee waiver form April 20th I was told it takes 2-3weeks to hear back from the school, ok cool! here it is a MONTH later still no response, nor any communication to even let me know they've received my fee waiver form and that id be hearing from them soon or whatever the case may be just complete silence!!! not to mention the students that answer the phone are very rude and snappy! I withdrew my application and applied to Iona college! I applied with them got an acceptance letter, got my financial situation settled, paid my deposit all within a week, easy as 1,2,3 as it SHOULD be. Its an excellent school with a countless number of awards, i feel as though the process of applying to schools should be as easy and stress free as possible! Im extremely dissatisfied with my experience with this school it literally had everything I was looking for campus wise, but everything happens for a reason and being that Im going into the education field I've been told from numerous amounts of educators that im better off getting a job, with a degree from Iona under my belt. If I could give Southern zero stars I absolutely would. They are extremely unorganized, they don't care about you as a student AT ALL.. They cancelled a BIO class that I really needed a week before classes start. I emailed the head of the department asking for a solution and all I got was a too bad.. Now because of this I have to attend an extra semester and will not be graduating in time.. They offer classes at odd times which makes it hard for you to sign up for classes back to back, so far the professors I had don't care about you and are not understanding.. I graduated from Western Connecticut and I never had a problem with them and now because of Southern I have to spend more of my time and money that I don't have…Barbara Monteiro

The college will do anything to get your money and be admitted, and that's where the niceties end. Their website is contradictory, and they are slow to respond to questions and concerns. You can't trust what they say either because half the time they tell you information that is incorrect. They also rip students off by charging a semester fee of $245/semester (do legitimate colleges do that? NO), and they force you to take 2 courses through the college. One being an online "cornerstone" course where you have to spend about $1350 in ADDITION to the 2 English course that are required by the college. It's basically a dumbed down version of the 2 english course requirements (which can be taken elsewhere), so they can make money out of you. I would STRONGLY recommend getting anything that is said or promised in writing (or record it), because they will make mistakes, and then deny it when called out on it. They are not really professional, and the entire experience is amateur at best. That said, I was able to get a degree for less than $5,000 (I tested out of all the requirements except for the two requirements), but if I could do it again, I would have gone with Thomas Edison State College (which is a state school in New Jersey for testing out of a degree like Charter Oak) instead which has no residency requirements, and can be completely tested out of. I also think the name sounds more legit than "Charter Oak."M M

I did have a helpful advisor, however, the financial aid (FA) department was difficult to get in touch with. I had to go down to the New Britain office in person 3 times and then call & email the office several times before getting even one issue resolved. After a year of their callous responses, I sent an email to the FA office to complain. They basically responded to me by calling me a liar and trying to discredit me! It was terribly unprofessional. Charter Oak treated me as just another faceless number. The lack of personalization and unfriendly response from the employees showed me that I did not matter. I felt mistreated on their end. Don’t waste your money on a school that will refuse to hear you out and better their efforts. I wasn’t even looking for anything in return; I just wanted them to know that they needed improvement. There are a lot of areas where I think Charter Oak State College could improve but, the fact of the matter is, I got my BS here and probably spent less than 5,000 dollars. TOTAL! All these people complaining about the cost of higher education need to look at schools like Charter Oak. They have little in the way of credit-residency requirements — I was only required to take eight credits in-house — and they let you test out of as many credits as you like. For a fast, self-directed learner such as myself, it was perfect. My only caution is that I've found it very difficult to get into graduate school with my degree, despite some excellent grades and standardized test scores. The world still isn't prepared for educational paradigms like this.R Williams

The most terrible school I have ever been to. Both the main campus and the Community college are the same. A lot of slow, unprofessional, and rude staff who keep yelling at students when they are not even doing their jobs properly. I submitted a certain paper to the Financial Aid office and they told me they lost the paper after weeks that I had to pay about $1700 out of pocket. During the 2020 Pandemic, I tried to contact them as I was having difficulty to waive the Student Insurance that is provided through the school because I already had an insurance coverage; no one answered my call until it was due. And now Miss Gaskon told me that I have to pay about $1300 for the coverage I never needed. Mis Gascon was there in 2018/19 when I had the same issue; she helped me waive it then. I could not go to her office in 2020 be a of Covid restrictions. I tried to solve the issue communicating with them but nothing got better yet. I would not recommend anyone to go the UDC unless one needs a headache. I cannot deny that there are some great Professors such as Prof. Sonnie Abebaku. However, individuals are very helpful to us, it’s overall experience at the university that makes a difference in our academic lives. So far, my overall experience is just TERRIBLE!Henok D

Worst administration I have ever had to deal with. Not only do they never respond to email or phone calls, they can't even keep track of ELECTRONIC applications, that required my daughter to submit 3 times and be forced enrolled late into classes due to their incompetence. But they also can't even have the literacy to read the applications correctly to charge the correct rate to students. They went ahead to charge not only my daughter but several other students out-of-state resident rates when all their applications illustrated DC residents. Like how can you not even read what's on the applications! How many other students were charged nearly 3 times when they should have been charged as a DC residents scares me on the level of corruption and neglect this body demonstrates to it's it's attendees.0 Then to not even have the decency and competence to even respond to emails and calls to try to correct this is just completely absurd, no wonder UDC is a laughing stock of a school to attend they can't even serve as a place to get extra credits for actual schools. Okay So I applied about 3weeks to a month ago and I’ve yet to receive any papers informing me if I was missing any documents or etc. I’ve called at least 5 times a day for about two weeks straight leaving voicemail after voicemail and no one has yet to return my call not only did I call multiple times I have also emailed them multiple and no response. I knew from the moment I found out I was expecting that Bright Horizons would be the place for my son. At just 10 weeks old, my baby started in the infant program. It’s never easy to send your baby to school and sending him that young was heartbreaking. The light that got me through that was the wonderful staff at Village Place. I can leave my son with his teachers and know that he’s not only taken care of, but deeply loved. His primary teachers, Ms. Amber & Ms. Breanna, are truly phenomenal. They plan wonderful activities for the children in their classroom, some of which we’ve used in our own home as well. They are sure to leave detailed notes in the app as well as pictures. I appreciate their diligence in notifying me of any concerns as well as my baby’s successes. Our family appreciates them immensely. The whole infant program teaching team is truly the best that I’ve seen and I feel so lucky that my child is loved and cared for by each of them. The infant/toddler area coordinator is easily accessible with any questions or concerns I may have about my son and meets me with educated, reassuring responses. The rest of the center staff is wonderful as well. Teachers my son doesn’t even have will greet him by name when we enter the building. We love Bright Horizons! My daughter has been attending Bright Horizons Village Place for the past three years. She and I are actually very sad to say goodbye because she is going on to Kindergarten next year. I have been so impressed with the staff over the years, always providing fun and education for my daughter, and keeping me in the loop about her emotions, her strengths, weaknesses, her growth and achievements. They clearly care about her and are just as proud of her as I am. The facility is beautiful and cleanable and I appreciate that the children go outside everyday multiple times. I was impressed with how much they teach the kids, I feel my daughter is more than ready for Kindergarten now. They teach about nature, science, emotions, letters, patterns, math etc. I'm always pleased to hear the new things my daughter tells me she learned at school. The app they use to keep parents informed about what they did for the day is great too because parents can see what their kids are doing during the day and talk to them about it when they get home. I also cherish and will miss the pictures they send daily! The whole experience has been wonderful and they will be greatly missed and always remembered. This center truly goes above and beyond any expectations we have ever had in a childcare facility. Choosing Bright Horizons was both the hardest and the best decision we have had to make for our children. Both of our girls have been enrolled since they were four months old and we will be enrolling our newborn son within the next few months. Our oldest just graduated and is excelling in kindergarten. Both of our girls have an absolute love for learning that I know was instilled in them by the staff at Bright Horizons. The teachers and administrators are consistent, compassionate, educated, loving, and enthusiastic. Beyond the highest quality of early childhood education they have provided, and perhaps even more importantly, they have continued to keep my children safe even during this crazy time. I’ve never once doubted the safety of my children in their care. Their COvid procedures are no exception. They are on top of every guideline while still making transitions comfortable for the kids. My mother is a long term resident of Kimberly Hall south. They have provided nothing but Extraordinary professional services towards my mother’s needs. I am pleased with their communication transparency, updates, and resolve of issues that may arise. The fact that I am an only child, I have always regretted the idea of placing my mother into a nursing home. Due to medical issues , I had no choice, and we moved up here from New Haven County. The Kimberly Hall South team, is the closest physical family that my mother has besides myself, every since the beginning of the pandemic. The team has been very vigilant with dealing with the pandemic as well. I respect all of their safety guidelines that they have in place, which lead to their present day success of safety. Staff are average at best, not super attentive to call bells or requests from patients. The shining stars of this place are a few nurses who go above and beyond the call of duty. As well as a physical therapy team who make it a point to be involved and present, while still challenging patients. The kitchen is horrible, unresponsive to the point that they often don’t even send food, and the food that they do send is either inedible or so lacking in substance that I wouldn’t give it to a single member of my family. If you have options, Kimberly Hall should be at the bottom of the list, and consider your other options thoroughly before you look at this place. I had a great experience! The classes and the hands on training are easily to follow! The CNA instructor, Tyemel is very professional and easy going. He pays attention to any detail that needs to be correct it. He also gives you tips, website references and answer all the questions that you may have! *** This is an updated note for another unfortunate visit for our Father. (Third admit) Please read the first message because that is the absolute truth. The Medical staff was always right there for my Dad. If it wasn’t for Autumn Lakes programs and us following it at home our Dad would be either bed bound or in a wheelchair (if possible) and he is NEITHER! He is home walking with assistance always and doing the same programs (sitting working with 1lb weight arms legs) that they all tailored for him at home. He works with the walker, and O2, and whoever is there for assistance. If you or anyone you know of needing to be in a facility for care if God Forbid (part time, or full time) I would definitely apply there first if possible. (First and 2nd visit combined) This is the best place to go for rehab. This is the second time my Dad is there and we were grateful to get him in a second time. Worse place ever the dementia unit specifically..Jackie the supervisor is very rude and unprofessional..her response to every complaint is to the in a different facility.. the dementia unit is dirty and depressing..they so no love to residents.they dont give them water or bring them out for fresh air..the staff acts like your bothering them any time u ask . My grandfather spent a few months here and had an amazing recovery from beginning to end. I can't say enough about his Therapy girls, Marissa and Kim, and the Director of Recreation, Jenn, was the absolute best!! She made his time there fun and he was always happy to see her. Gramp didn't want to leave because he made so many friends. As with any nursing facility, the families need to be involved and advocate for their family member as much and as often as possible for the best results. I don’t know where to begin! My Mom and I were impressed from the first day of my grandmother’s arrival. She had arrived after lunch but she received a meal and was already being made welcome. The level of care and integrity as well as protecting a patient’s rights is impeccable. There is not enough words in my vocabulary to express our gratitude for all the nurses, staff, and amazing social worker Laura that provided assistance above and beyond our expectations. My in laws were in long term care at Apple Rehab in Avon. Both were in their early 90's. They got great care from all the staff. Office staff was also very helpful in guiding the family through this difficult time. I liked what I saw during my in laws stay at Apple, and have now become a volunteer. I became familiar with the facility because my father was a former resident before his passing and I appreciated the special care they gave him during his extended illness. It was then that my family and I decided to volunteer our services in a meaningful way. This awesome relationship has continued for close to 30 years! With a team of volunteers from our church, my family and I render a brief monthly church service for residents that is always well-attended. We have built lasting friendships with Touchpoints' residents and the wonderful experiences we've shared have encouraged us as much as it has encouraged them! During our numerous visits toTouchpoints, we have always arrived to find a clean, welcoming environment that is fully staffed and conducive to personal growth and social positivity. Touchpoints residents are always clean and well fed. The recreational staff, led by Director of Therapeutic Recreation, Cindy Payne, is extremely professional, maintains a hands-on approach, and is exceptionally courteous and helpful to our team of volunteers. I WISH I could give NO STARS!!!!!! My Mom was at Touchpoints at BLOOMFIELD and it's THE ABSOLUTE WORST place!!!!!! It's COMPLETELY HORRID!! They aren't prepared when new people are admitted!! I've been working as a volunteer at Touchpoints in Bloomfield for 8 years. I help lead a ecumenical worship service at the facility and visit residents. I have always found the staff here professional and caring. There is a very active recreational program for the residents, so that they stay involved with one another and are motivated to be part of the community, not just stay in their room. I can't comment on the medical care since that's not my specialty. But there is high socialization of the residents that helps with their well-being and relationships.Steven Tate

I went to Housatonic right out of high school. From fall 2012 to winter 2015, I attended. The professors were professional and helpful. I could email or call or see them during their office hours if I needed to speak (I prefer in person). All the professors I had were passionate and knowledgeable. I transferred from the science program to the fine arts program. The school and my advisor were helpful in this transition. (Personally, every process/interaction was quick and easy) It was a great choice for me. I found the fine arts department to be a great group of people. Very dedicated and all successful in their fields. They didn't just become teachers, they had/have careers and are extremely talented. A little quirky, but what artist isn't? They really helped me improve my art and gave me advice on selling my art. Aside from the actual classes, my favorite part was the fantastic cafeteria. Honestly, I still go back! I still wander around downtown sometimes – that's where HCC is. Its not idyllic but its not as tough as the streets of Manhattan. There's a few oddballs but in 2 years of night courses I never felt unsafe. There's good restaurants and a few shops, concerts in the summer. I graduated and transferred to an art college, almost all of my credits transferred. I'm at a smaller college now, to get my BA, and I miss the convenience of being in a downtown area, near a park and print shop, and really miss the cafe !Christine Jones

This place is the worst. I had the worst experience with an advisor who tried to advise me in the lobby of the building. She basically asked me why I was there…. Then tried to advise me to go to every other department so she would have to do the bare minimum??? Security guards at every door, not kind ones either they definitely don't make it a warm and friendly campus. Seems like they're trying to protect themselves from more that just Covid. The financial aid office is a mess, and the enrollment process was ugh…. They basically didn't know how to add my Transcript credit aside from them sort of losing my Transcripts which the head guy admitted, and looked at me asking if I had any unofficial ones on me…?. The 3 stars are for their professors, they were lovely. The school is trash though go to NCC instead especially if you value professionalism and can do advisement.E J

Housatonic community college Is one of the Best Colleges I have attended. Academically, and socially, this college is well rounded. HCC has Great teachers, that honestly want to see their students succeed.i can only tell you this because this was me, a student who was extremely stressed about the material and course work. Enrolling into HCC from a pervious college, I did not have the funds for school. when I applied for a HCC scholarship I was more than fortunate To have Received grant.YES from School. I have totally made the correct choice to attend HCC. I was nervous at first, but it’s the realization Of coming out of your comfort zone, to achieve your goals and aspirations. I am truly blessed and more than thankful to attend Housatonic community college.
