20 Best 2 Year Nursing Programs In Detroit, MI (2022 Updated)

I called WCC and attended for 3 semesters. Failed my first class because I didn’t know the difference between on- line and virtual classes. Financial aid denied me and reconnect was going to force me to take 2 classes or four total in a year. I have ADHD and bipolar two disorder. It was either the welcome center or the student advisor office that told me that ADHD was just a medical diagnosis and not a disability. I am a mom of three and a grandmother of a toddler.I have been out of school for over 15 years. I am by no means stupid or unteachable. I am great at what I do and am raising well adjusted tiny humans with an awareness of mental health treatment and general accountability. The schools online program send a message that it is doable for everybody and tailored to fit one’s schedule. I have done drop in tutoring I have called the helpdesk I’ve called every number possible for help. I have spoken to financial aid, I have spoken to success coaches, as well as a counselor affiliated with the schoolMy GPA drop below 2.0 and now I can’t afford to go to school. I was in the paralegal program and I can by no means, not understand the material but I struggle so much with the homework and the amount of things you’re expected to know upon entry into this community college. This school has destroyed hope for my future and nobody seems to know what anyone else is doing. The only reason I passed one class is because Professor Lindsey took the time to show me the things I needed to know. Two other instructors, Refused to even go over the homework in virtual classes. They think because it’s in the schedule they shouldn’t have to talk about it in class. Instructors should talk about anything that makes work unclear to students!! Refusal to go over homework by instructors is the biggest thing that caused my struggle in this institution. If you are a mom or a person with day-to-day responsibilities… think twice and get as much info as you can before entering the school. WCC is not tailored for the working person or the single mother. Apologies for any triteness. Democracy runs well w an educated populace. A few hallmarks of a Democracy are; Quality of Life, Education, Freedoms and the Civil Rights of All. Universal Healthcare, Access, Education and Trades training, why not? If we are able to pay one man millions of dollars, then why not provide for millions of people? How often does corporate welfare, “trickle down” and subsidies to huge corporations translate into savings? Educated, critically thinking humans are one goal and Community Colleges are gateways and answers to improving and increasing Democratic values. How naive, ignorant and misinformed I was as a young adult, to snub and look down on Community Colleges. As the decades passed and the Grace of wisdom was given to me, I began to realize the value of CC. Mistakes made can be the process in which we grow and improve, if those mistakes don’t kill you. Thus, Washtenaw Community College is packed full of the possibilities of enhancing the potentialities, aptitudes and visions, just as any institution of higher learning should be. The key: Higher Learning. Do not disparage the “in-district” resident’s ability to pay $95 a credit hour. Of course, the Big 10, Ivy League and others are prestigious and wonders to behold. Yet talent is talent and at times it all comes out in the wash. We are all in the mosaic of life. An accommodating student center, the Legendary Morris Lawrence w the Auditorium’s name in his honor and the music program still going strong. WCC offers countless resources, references and an ability to improve your life plan. A new career pathway, a hobby, a skill, a language- don’t break an arm or a leg, go into an easy transition, by becoming a WCC student and hold your head high.Chawn Aray

Took Motorcycle Safety: Basic Rider Course Weeknight. The course was very well done with professional instructors and decent equipment. Both classroom (parking garage) and range were excellent venues for the subject matter. The class had full enrollment (12 riders) and instructors provided significant "hands on" individualized training. Some participants (students) were familiar with motorcycles others were First Time riders. Appropriate attention and training was received by all. Great job WCC!Michael Bell

I attended a meeting at Marygrove College and learned all about their revitalization of the campus. The buildings were constructed in the 1920’s.  They had fallen into disuse over the past decade. At this time they are being remodeled and repaired.  A college will begin operation in the main building shortly and in some cases is already in operation. Over the next two years an elementary school with attached high school will start to operate in one of the buildings.  At this time of year the grounds look sparse and bare.  I am looking forward to the spring and will return to look at it at that time. The woodwork in the building is still intact.  There are many religious artifacts and statues of great beauty.  The classrooms are large and have plenty of natural lighting. The telecommunications system is due to be updated. The people that work here are professional, interested, intelligent and kind.  I was especially happy to tour their beautiful library.  I will need to return when the sun is out and the windows are all open.  It is going to be a beautiful teaching college.Alfred Brock

I would not recommend this school. There wasn’t any heat in our classrooms the entire winter. Students had to bring their own heaters and we only could plug up 2 with out blowing out the circuit. (They also have a heating and cooling program ) There still isn’t any soap in the cafeteria. Some one put water in an old soap dispenser, and over 100 students share that. The ST (Surgical technician) instructor is rude and unprofessional. I have documents, videos and dates of her yelling at me, cursing, threatening me and no one did anything to her. Actually, when I tried to report her, it actually got worse. I’m not the only one from this school…. or other schools who said the same exact thing. The man from financial aide will call, email and text you several times a day when you have to make a payment. The reviews are fake/ from employees themselves. Abcott Institute is a great place to help you with a career in the medical field. Abcott also have other areas to advance your career. The instructors are Helpful and encouraging. The Surgical Tech. Program with Mrs.Miller is great, she a firm and knowledgeable instructor. Working in the medical field especially the OR is no game, you are dealing with people lives!! The course is tough, at one point I wasn't so sure if I could finish. I talk to my instructor, made sure I studied more and did what I had to do to improve myself. Just focus and get what you need to get out of there. It’s a lot of foolery going in this school program not accredited and make sure when you pay for you certification test and pass get your money back because they will not mention it if you don’t and it’s included in your tuition. Amanda came out to train our staff in CPR/1st Aid. The staff raved about what a great presenter she was and how she really made the course interesting. Everyone enjoyed it. Our staff received their cards immediately. This is our second time using Save 1 CPR, LLC and we already are planning our next round of training for December. I can remember my first day of school it was online due to the pandemic and not knowing the computer I had my challenges set out for me. I did not even know how to get into my online class but with the help of my Education Consultant, Pooja Chopra and Kevin Healey, my Microsoft computer Instructor they got me on the right track and before long I was teaching Kevin’s computer class. Kevin is very knowledgeable, approachable, and caring he took the time and showed me how to navigate around the computer and before long I was helping teach his class. Unorganized and accent is too thick to understand. Mainly african Nigerian and etc there so they tend to grasp it easier. Fortunately i already knew what i was doing so even if i didnt understand what he said i was ok. Class is divided like high school ( not due to him) i suggest if you do go here then you should form a study group (you'll figure out what i mean) and study online as well. This experience was phenomenal. The program is fast paced but very informative. In 2009, I entered the OCC Southfield campus with some transfer credits from Baker College Ultra Sound Program. I was guided to a counselor by the name of Mr. Sloan. I asked him if there was a wait for the surgical technician program. He stated there was no wait you just have to take nine more classes. I took the nine classes and finished them by December of 2010 which would of put me in the September 2011 internship. In the spring of 2011, I was waiting for the letter in the mail. I did all the necessary steps I needed to take for the program. When I didn't receive the letter, I went to find out why. Sloan comes out of his office with some papers and takes me to the cafeteria in the lower level. He forced me to sign them and told me I wasn't in the program for the 2011 year. I was irate because I had given up my prior career as an award winning hairstylist because of lack of medical insurance as single woman.In 2013, two years later they sent me the letter after I had been hit three times from behind in my car. I read the letter knowing I would no longer be able to do this with my back injuries. I threw it in the garbage in disbelief of what had gone wrong. He was black and violated my civil rights. That deserves immediate termination of his position. He is lucky I didn't smash the papers in his nose. He would of have deserved every bit of it. Since 2011, I have lost hundreds of thousands of dollars and have not worked.Carol A Bourgeau

If you ever have Jeffery Eichold as a biology professor please beware. He is very racist and bias towards anyone who is not white even admitted to lying about graduating college to get the job. I was walking from the student parking lot across the street and I stopped to wait for him because I thought he was going to drive past me and he made a turn into the employee parking lot without using blinkers. This is the type of treatment you get at this campus. Other than that this is a horrible place to get an education or anything else. The lady I went to see for a transcript request was extremely rude and rolled her eyes the moment I walked up. When I asked her what was the process for the form as it was my first time doing one she looked at me like I was stupid and said just read it. I have stared the Medical office Assistant program on Sept 2021. Since the day I started as a mature student, everyone in the administrations office has been and has continued to be very helpful in the process. The teachers are wonderful, Nabil my computer and communications teacher was very helpful when I required help. He would stay after class if anyone of us needed the extra help. Sonya was my medical terminology teacher, she was a joy to be around and was very easy to approve of I was having any difficulties. Biljana is our teacher that is teaching us intro to health, transcription, clinic skills, this is a very in-depth class, Biljana makes sure that we understand everything about this program she makes learning fun. Biljana is a wonderful person and very easily to approve. I would highly recommend if you are thinking of going back to college to consider this college.Debbie Tremblay

Just got a massage by Matthew and it was the best massage I've ever had.. and I've went to MANY people in the last 10 years. Not only was he extremely professional but extremely knowledgeable too. He spent the entire time working on my leg but also explaining everything about what could be causing my pain and preventive measures I could take at home. I took the Massage Therapy Program here and the teachers are amazing! The program is a whole different story. They advertise "placement" however, "placement" only seems to benefit them with their in house massage clinic. As a past student there was no way to gain networking skills or the skills set outside of the school. It is clearly to just profit there own clinic. If you get the chance I would say try the program else where because the "placement" isn't all its cracked up to be.Logan Toole

Also since when does staff meetings take the place of your first customer the student. You informed me last minute via your surrogate which only makes me further doubt Trio's eternal and everlasting priorities and the humiliation and degradation I have suffered as a protected Veteran and Minister of the Gospel is nothing short of reprehensible  and divine childhood neglect. Fantastic music and theatre program that I aid with. It's also a pretty campus. Every time I go to the Take 5 Lounge, there's always a group or two of people who are making a ruckus. I know it's a difficult slope to tackle, I don't think it's appropriate hearing the n-word in normal dialogue while I'm trying to eat, and I say that as a black man. It's not just those groups though. Groups singing some musical or someone talking loudly on their phone is annoying to hear.Ramone W

I feel that I received an excellent education. The tuition is high, it's more than UofM Ann Arbor. However, you are getting excellent Professor's in smaller classrooms, which I really thought was beneficial for me. I like knowing nearly everyone in my cohort. Saddened to be leaving this review. I feel like this community college does the bare minimum to get my money and give me a piece of paper. Can we get some career resource support? If there is a career resources department, they do a terrible job assisting students and graduates. Just tried to call the counseling and academic advising department at 3:05 p.m., but was told "we don't have any counselors or advisors here right now, call back on Monday when they stay on the phones til 5:30." I guess being open until 4:30 on Friday is just a suggestion. I would try to complain, but if the advisors left at three, then the management was gone at noon. Maybe I should just expect less from my school, or maybe someone else should run the place more effectively. Two stars for giving you the piece of paper or the transfer credits. Instead of spending money on renovating buildings/parking lots they should be spending money on hiring new people. I don't know if the workers are rude because they are underpaid or if they simply lack people skills…either way…the staff members(minus teachers) who works at South Campus are terrible. I'm enrolled in a Master's program of Architecture at UDM. The curriculum exactly fits my needs and considers all my previous education. Staff and students here are more like a family, that creates friendly environment especially for new students. Studios here are mixed of theoretical and practical approaches, which expands my experiences in both ways. The school shop has all kind of machines that help in doing models. The school has good ranking and reputation in the area. The dean is such a great person, also he is AIA Michigan president of year 2017. Since I got here, I have learned a lot and my skills increase especially in design and using computer softwares. The professors here are really nice and so helpful, they always have their doors opened for any questions or if you're seeking advise. I have been in contact with U of M when I was applying for a Master's program, I found them careless, kinda lost and unorganized, unlike UDM School of Architecture, they know exactly what're they doing and care about each single student in the school. School here gives students good chance to meet with professionals and big companies to help get them a co-op or and intern position once the student graduate.George Morkos

I do not recommend their clinical psychology masters program. The feedback from professors to students about being too “cheeky”, or “share more opinions” has nothing to do with the ability to practice clinically. The suggestion to share more thoughts/opinions in class if you want a letter of recommendation would not have gotten me a letter of recommendation! Apparently it was relevant if the professors liked you and your sense of humor rather than ones ability to provide therapy and conduct assessment. Overpriced for the value. There are plenty of places to get a degree from. I’ve found little from this program to be useful in clinical practice. The training I received following graduation was much more relevant to my practice than theories, having the DSM read in class, and learning to administer projective assessments. The level of diversity was appalling. The most diverse individual I can recall was a middle aged white male pursuing a second career. I would of received a better education in a third world country then what I received going here :/ I mean what can I say I had a constantly drunk professor, who every single class would be drinking out of his “big gulp” mug you could smell the alcohol on him. As a first time parent sending a child off to school I feel overwhelmed with the enrollment process. The staff is not very helpful. The first time we went in to meet with someone, no one would sit down with us and we were sent away with a checklist paper as our form of help. I could have printed the checklist out from home! I wouldn’t have taken time off work to go there. The checklist was helpful but not what we needed. There was trouble submitting our FAFSA and it took longer than we wanted to fix it, causing us to register for classes later than we ever planned to. The advising office recording prompts tell you they are open until 5pm and it’s drop-in only and you could “drop in over the phone”. You can’t make an appt. For some reason, they wouldn’t let me call on behalf of my 17 year old son so he called when he got out of work at 3:30 and they refused to help him. They closed in 1.5 hours and it was “too late.” They told him to call back between 8am-9am if he wanted to get help. So why does the recording say you can’t make appts and they are available until 5 for drop-ins? When in actuality you only have a 1 hour window to call each day! I felt like he must have misunderstood so I called them back and the woman snapped at me for calling and pointed at the fact that we were registering late. Then when I explained to her why this was nearly impossible for us, she made the exception that she would let him call as late as 12pm. He started getting nervous so he took an early lunch at work to make the call this morning and then they told him he would have to take time off work and finish registering in person (again conflicting with all other info we’ve seen). So I made another call to ask questions about this and they told me we could register online, but it was clear the woman on the phone was frustrated with me for having questions and taking her time. Nearly makes me want to throw in the towel and start at another school. We are intelligent people. The process shouldn’t be this hard. Maybe don’t work in admissions if you don’t want to help kids and their parents. Don’t expect parents to not be involved when enrolling their 17 year old kid for school! Have to do it that way? Fine. But expect me to have questions when my kid can’t relay every bit of information you told him in your conversation.Kelly Neal

There was a teacher that made discriminatory comments to my girlfriend over Blackboard while trying to fix an issue. After submitting an SC aware and receiving an initial response, we have heard nothing back from the administration. Very disappointing from not only a student’s perspective, but a former PAL and tutor who has worked closely with professors from this college in the past. These guys are very good at teaching people who never road a motorcycle to becoming a good rider and safe rider. When I took my class there I thought that there is no way some of my fellow classmates would learn how to ride ,let alone pass the class and by the end of the class they're pwas riding like they were doing it there whole life. Based on my short experience with LTU, I wouldn't recommend wasting your time applying for this school. I was looking for an online Master's program and came across LTU via one of my co-workers. After contacting LTU and describing to them what I was looking for, I was quickly contacted by their admissions center. I'll be honest, at this point everything seemed to be going quite well; I had a few pleasant conversations with my counselor, all information that I had asked for was quickly given, and the application process was very well explained and went smoothly. After that, is where things started going downhill for LTU. I was finally contacted by my counselor and told that I will not be accepted to the Master's program that I had applied for due to new "requirements." Now, I understand that I have been out of school for awhile at this point and things change, but LTU couldn't even explain what requirements I did not meet. All they told me is that I would be receiving a package explaining everything. Well guess what, I never actually received anything from them explaining the decision. Trying to gather more information as to why I wasn't accepted, as I was preparing to apply to other programs, I again tried contacting LTU and my counselor. After numerous attempts of trying to get a hold of someone, I never did receive a simple response either by email or by phone call. I cannot recommend a institution that does not make any kind of effort to keep applicants informed on decisions made, whether accepted or rejected. They are clearly just worried about making money and trying to boost their own rankings. They could honestly care less about potential students in my opinion unless its going to benefit them in some way. So disappointing.Sean Gage

After getting a Degree in their Computer Science, Software Development, Web Development Program and being actively a part of Phi Kappa Upsilon, expected to demonstrate confidence and professionalism in the field once completed everything. But instead demonstrated vindictiveness over time against other people in the same field from other schools all over the globe because of the lack of knowledge gained in the program to succeed, unlike others had. THIS SCHOOL IS NOT RECOMMENDED OR THE PROGRAMS WITHIN IT to people if you intend to have confidence WITH professionalism taught to you and engrained in you, so you can demonstrate it for all like the advertisements. These traits will not be given to you. You will be taken in willingly, and even given a semi-serious job there to help you along and pay bills, BUT you will NOT make people happy doing what you love. You will instead lash out at people on occasion in a vindictive fashion and not enjoy what you do. THIS IS FACTUAL. Working there behind a desk still trying to use my degree all over the country and planet since 2011. This is a warning for all to stay away from this school and people that have just Lawrence Tech Degrees, as you will not go anywhere with them and be stuck in a rut for over 8 years in counting. This has NOTHING to do with the current economy and status of Detroit Michigan right now. It has to do with all the professors and people that have been around and taught over the time being here. Learned nothing about helping oneself or how to handle a situation properly in a polite manner. Still feel uneducated and act unprofessional after attaining degree. BE WARNED AND STAY AWAY! I laugh how half these reviews are not even students… these are all paid reviews 😂😂 International student (3.8gpa) : Yes. You will get a job if you attend. If you would like to work in Michigan that is… You will also have to pay for classes that force you to learn about the American gvt structure (absolutely pointless) as every elective is biased towards domestic students. There are random fees that are never discussed. Wi-Fi is horrible (somewhat decent after 8pm). Gym is always used by athletic teams with poor scheduling. Food on campus is a joke (student government has been fighting to switch provider for years already) There is no communication between the many departments, if you are architecture and want to work countless hours and nights in a row. Have fun balancing these other $$$ electives because "my class is the most important because it took me many years to be able to teach so if you show less emphasis in my class, I will show less compassion towards your grade" – example of professors logic. TL:dr LTU will get you a job, their curriculum needs improvement. Facilities are out dated. Hella expensive even for a private institution that gives scholarship, they'll slap you with unregulated fees. CheersAras Puodziunas

Recent events: 03/24/2020 This is by far the worst place to try to get information. When students call for information regarding their account it states to call student accounts. NO ONE answers the phone. Students are asked to leave a message. Students leaves several messages over a period of time and NO ONE returns calls. Students are to graduate and NEED information to help students. We go in person to speak with someone in students services. The people at the Downtown campus were nice. We called the number that was given (District Financial Aid) and the person (male) that answered the phone was no help and rude. He stated that he would pass the information along and when asked how long it will take? No answer. He was reminded that there is 34 days left for the semester. He was asked 30, 45 or 90 days? or 2 weeks or 3 days? Still no answers. Students call to get answers and students get sent from place to place. WCCCD Need to make an area for Students Accounts. Maybe if there's a section for them students can receive faster information. Disclaimer: Not all staff are HORRIBLE, those who are HORRIBLE make it harder for the ones who do ASSIST students. There should be a list of the staffs who go above and beyond. To be HONORED. The HORRIBLE staffs picture need to be posted on a wall.Truth Matters

Lousy and unprofessional, even by community college standards. The few professors worth anything aren't worth dealing with the rest of them. The people giving this institution high ratings are likely very, very inexperienced with post-secondary education and think this is the standard. It's not. You, dear reader, deserve better than WCCCD will give you. I received my first failing grade *ever* because one of their professors is incompetent about running online courses, and then was churlishly rude in his response when I suggested a way to make everyone happy. Will the college do anything to help? Of course not. They've already gotten my money, and apparently don't realize that greed will cost them in the long run. Don't waste your time or your money here, because they very much do not care about providing a quality service. Take your tuition dollars elsewhere, and I'll take bitter pleasure in the knowledge that I helped some poor student avoid making the same mistake I did.Steven Schnepp

Their staff is very unprofessional! They’re also liars as well, it’s hard to trust anything they say because they never get it done. I wanted to transfer to a university for the winter semester but they needed a letter of completion stating that I have met all their requirements. My transfer advisor said she’ll take an email instead. Do you think they did it? No! Lied to me saying they would. Don’t get me started on the struggle to ask the advisors to send it. Another lie was the official transcripts. They said January 14 was the date they would be ready. I called them and they told me they weren’t ready. A month has passed and the transcript still aren’t ready! Please do not attend this school. I should’ve went somewhere else because they’re so useless.Kourtney Feagin
