20 Best 2 Year Nursing Programs In Albany, NY (2022 Updated)

I have trouble with the administration every semester. Either my financial aid gets all messed up, they never notify me of a bill (I collect late fees for 4 months because of this), I get unregistered for classes, my schedule is wrong…. etc. Every semester I have to call them almost every day to get their mistake of the day figured out. The professors seem to care about the students, and overall the experience has been educational, but the administration is an actual joke. Update: They screwed me over this semester, too. They over-awarded my financial aid, realized they did this, took it back away (without telling me) and now, out of the blue, I owe them $1200.00. I found out about this today, and the bill is due in 13 days. The sad part is, I'm not even surprised because something like this happens every semester.Erin D

I can’t say enough great things about Corning community college. As a returning adult student, I have had a wonderful experience. The professors truly care about your success as a student and go above and beyond to help you succeed. A wonderful place to go to school and a great place to visit. The students here are almost all very kind, sweet, accepting, supportive, and open-minded people. They are slightly diverse in terms of demographics, and quite diverse in terms of personality. The college offers a diverse range of majors and excellent classes. It has particularly great music, performing arts, nursing, and physical therapy programs. Class sizes are not very big, with very few lecture hall-style class settings. The teachers are mostly very kind and care greatly about what they do. Tuition is very high, but depending on your program, it can be worth it. The campus is beautiful! It is full of nature and a mix of collegiate gothic and more modern buildings. It is small and dense, but not crowded. It is also very safe. Risk of theft or damage to property is very rare, but the latter is more common among lowerclassmen. There is so much history to uncover. It is located close to good places to shop, eat, and visit in Pittsford. The academic buildings are clean, well-lit, and mostly fitted with modern amenities. Bathrooms in some buildings are very clean, some are quite unclean. The lowerclassmen residence halls can be somewhat loud, are typically slightly unclean, but have many events to attend run by the RAs. There are dorm or suite-style living choices. Upperclassmen residence halls are mostly clean, almost always very quiet, and have dorm, suite, apartment-style living choices. Living arrangements are for full-time students only. The food in the Dining Commons is pretty good. It has a pretty diverse menu with some options tasting decent, some great. Other food locations around campus have a somewhat limited menu range and the food is mediocre. Some alternative dietary accommodations are met, and more will be made if requested. Facilities staff are mostly not friendly, but not unkind. The staff in the Dining Commons are mostly pretty friendly and very kind.Graeme Lechner

I received counseling services from John Aceto at Nazareth College. This man is sexually inappropriate! I met him to work on my shyness, and for the entire session he tried diagnosing me other issues. He told me I drink coffee everyday because I have "Caffeine-use disorder." That rediculous disorder is not even in the DSM! Then he diagnosed my father with Bipolar disorder, based on my childhood memories. He never even met my father in person. After the session, he began rubbing his hand on my back, telling me that he wanted to "help me out." I felt violated. BEWARE of this man! He will rope you in for other issues and try to take advantage of you. I expressed my concerns to the director, Megan Clifford Papponetti, and she black mailed me. She threatened to have me suspended, and that is exactly what she attempted. She shared my confidential assessments and sessions with my Ex and even to my professors. My professors were concerned about me, saying that they received a strange call from Megan "bragging about the information she found out about me." That was PERSONAL information that I trusted with the Nazareth College Counseling Center, and I was humiliated. Nazareth College, you should be ashamed of yourself! A good school where you get out what you put in. Many trains stop within walking distance and buses as well. Just like any college, depending on your major, you will find good and bad professors. So always make use of the rate my professor website. I had a very pleasant experience. The administration was more competent than other schools I went to and my issues were always solved within a reasonable amount of time. The facilities I had to use for my major were in even better condition compared to some four year schools. The wifi coverage was good. Plenty of cafeterias with the best one being in the E building. Plenty of food trucks with different types of foods. Lots of seating areas with electrical ports. The class scheduling was workable with enough sections to fit almost everyone. Can't speak for any other major but it felt like that overall. They are always hiring new adjuncts so it's not the same professor teaching that one section you need all the time that everyone says is horrible. Always stay on top of your things if you want to have them resolved quickly. That's the part you play in your college years. The hand holding stops after High School. All I can say is, relax a little and have some fun. At the end of the day grades won't show the strength of your character after all is said and done.Mounia B

It seems like professors like the one I got Professor Arnold who acts likes she is going through the motions and don't there . i felt I waste my time and money which I paid out of pocket in her class and is thinking about leaving the college. She is one of the worst teachers/professors i ever had . Im currently in my last year at LaGuardia (majoring in business) and i have to say the Business department is full of AMAZING professors. Classes are really easy (most of them except accounting unless you're good at it) and the students are cool. I, personally, never talked to anyone or made any friends because I'm not an outgoing person. The school is constantly going under renovations and they just finished the new library and it looks AMAZING, as if it was a library from an ivy league. Food isn't that great but what do you expect, its school food [not free of course]. This is not a good college at all. It's a decent sized school but I found many of the students here to be very cold and unfriendly. It's a very political school everyone is either very liberal or very conservative which made me uncomfortable since i'm not a political person. There is a lot of drug activity at this school. How does a college have a faculty that can't answer any questions pertaining to activities that go on campus. there are 4 kids to a room and marijuana smoke fills the air. You complain to faculty that you were not around anytime that this is found by staff with proof of your where abouts each and everytime. I don't smoke at all. I don't go here nor do I know anyone who does. We visited for a wrestling tournament. The gym they used was utterly disgusting. Dirty as hell. Garbage was shoved everywhere. This college misguides students frequently. Be careful what your advisor tells you and they tend to swap your own major without your permission. Graduated here. This school is more akin to an extension of highschool, and not a professional learning environment. Professors here are hit or miss. I had a couple great professors, I had a lot of VERY bad professors. The English department is the exception, with the majority of the professors there being very professional and knowledgeable of their field. In more than one class, I had EXTREMELY immature "fresh-out-of-highschool" peers. I'm talking about the baggy pants, crappy music on cell phone max volume, and high attitude people in the middle of class. Felt like an inner-city summer school at times. Professors didn't, or couldn't, do anything about it. Administration is bad. Very bad. Lots of getting the run-around, lots of mis-information. Technology wise, not good. Their website actively suppresses google chrome and forces internet explorer, which as any tech savvy person would know is an insecure and clunky browser. The website bounces between basic HTML and confusing/frustrating UI. The campus itself is very well taken care of and looks very nice. This school is an unprofessional joke! I messed up coming here for my Last year. The staff is ghetto and money hungry especially registration and financial aid! I should have stayed at Savannah State they are lazy as heck, ghetto and care nothing about students. The only reason ppl go here and are willing to grossly pay for an education is the location. I went to school here and will say it is far overpriced for the education you are given. Some staff are great and really care about the education they are providing. Others just read off a powerpoint and have no interest except for a paycheck. Pace is expensive, doesn't help the students getting internships and when the students get one on their own, Pace takes the credit. After graduating, the students don't get a job. One of their alumni just got a good job and due to she owes money, they don't give her transcripts and are retaining her title. Is not possible for Pace to help when the students really need help? This is a good school. However, the quality is almost identical to the CUNY school I attended before coming here that costed significantly less. Additionally, the lack of diversity (granted, because of how this is a private school) is also lacking. Simply put, the 4 years I spent at The College of Saint Rose were the best 4 years of my life. I attended the Accepted Students Day the Spring before I matriculated and fell in love. The campus was beautiful, everyone was friendly and helpful. I left with every question answered and very at ease about where I would be spending the next 4 years. Saint Rose provided me with an opportunity to come out of my shell. I was the typical shy student. I had my group of friends and I stuck to them. I didn't participate in any campus activities, my days consisted of going to class and back to my room. At the beginning of my second year, I knew I wanted to make a change, I wanted to experience all Saint Rose had to offer. I became a mentor, and then a resistant assistant, joined clubs, and volunteered. I did it all. I became a leader on campus all while balancing my school work and employment. The resources are unlimited at Saint Rose, you just have to reach out. Class sizes are small which is perfect for those of us who like to get to know our professors. As a biology major, I found my classes to be challenging but not impossible and learning was fun. When you have professors who are passionate about their field it makes you passionate to learn and that is what you will find when you come to Saint Rose. With the help of one of my professors, I was able to secure a summer research internship at Albany Medical College. My time spent here was very productive. I was able to do things I never envisioned myself doing and really break out of my comfort zone. The College of Saint Rose helped me develop friendships and skills of a lifetime.Kajanna McKenzie

When I transferred to Saint Rose, I knew that this place would become my second home. I can't stress enough how transfer friendly the college is. I had such wonderful help from Transfer Admissions, Financial Aid, Registrar and the Communications department throughout the transfer process. They included my mom as well and answered any questions she had. While attending Saint Rose, I had some incredible opportunities that you can only get from Saint Rose. I was elected President for Tau Sigma National Honor Society which allowed me to go to Chicago and San Antonio for their leadership conference. I got to go on several trips including the Hearst Tower in NYC, Yankee Stadium, Bronx Zoo and to local media outlets such as Time Warner Cable News. I also was a staff writer/news editor for The Chronicle, the weekly student newspaper. But most importantly, Saint Rose prepared me for my two internships/part time job during my senior year and current full time job in the news industry. The professors in the Communications department helped me grow not only as a journalist but as a person. They pushed me to think outside the box and ask the tough questions. Without such a wonderful and supportive COMmunity, I wouldn't be where I am today. I feel like one star would be harsh, but three stars would be too nice. My experience with Saint Rose is that it is, like many colleges in this country: overpriced. That is a common complaint with all colleges, but it's more than that. I think the value of the education you get there doesn't really match what you are/will be (if you are taking loans) paying for. I feel the education at Saint Rose is not preparing the younger generation to enter the workforce or the real world. The school boasts great academics and don't get me wrong, some classes have been very objective based and informative. However, some classes made me feel like I was still in high school/the public education system. As in, 1) They aren't that challenging, 2) They don't teach me skills and knowledge that I'll need in the future and 3) It feels like some of the classes had a larger agenda to them (trying to convince students rather than teach). Besides the academics, the campus is nice. Personally, Albany, NY is not my cup of tea but for someone coming from the NYC area (which there's a lot at SR), it might be nicer to be in a much smaller city. Besides that, I think most adults see college campuses kind of deteriorating in terms of the academics and culture. I don't need to go into details about that. If I could give this institution zero stars I would be. Don’t waste your time with GCC, they will waste your time and money without any doubt in my mind. Don’t fall for the “it’s a beautiful campus” thing, because for example the nursing program is going downhill according to some alumni I’ve spoken to, who are now clinical instructors. I would never even refer to this place as a school let alone a college. Being a transfer student, I have experience with other more legitimate schools and universities. The college has won multiple awards from the CUNY system as well as other institutions for its ability to grant Associate's Degrees at an impressive rate and to foster continuing education at senior colleges. With a respectable teacher-to-student ratio, significant public and private funding, and a central location in New York City, the learning experience has been covered by many publications and studied by experts. However, BMCC also suffers from a large rise in remedial education, lack of freshman retention, and overcrowding. Due to its larger base of capital compared to most other two-year colleges, expansion of new campuses during the rebuilding of Fiterman Hall was possible. Several trailers are still used as classrooms to this day in order to help expand capacity. edit, update: ended up coming to the conclusion that because all of this uncertanty and my bad living situation I am dropping out, I did all I could, was not met halfway by anone but professors unless I begged here. do not go here if you're poor. Just, no. I can't take it anymore. I've tried to explain my situation to this school multiple times, and I'm left to struggle on my own. I am starving, housing insecure, financially unstable, and unable to make ot to class or properly study because of financial struggle, inability to be alone a place quiet to study because they won't house, and depression. In the end they want to fail you out so you can pay them fees later, I guarantee. I'lll gladly take my review down if it's actually a thing they decide they really want to help me with, only after I have been actually helped, and not as in, money grant to help my situation I never recieve, or new housing program email I apply for and am swiftly rejected because I am not enrolled just enough just yet due to circumstances that are once again not entirely my fault because when I applied here I intended to be taking 16 credits not 7. I obtained a computer degree in 2014 from Canton. This institution did not turn me into a Liberal zombie. That said, the number one thing you must keep in mind is cost, nearly all colleges in America have inflated costs, do you want to be thousands in debt with a bad job after? Consider vocational training & just working after high school. Choose wisely & do your research. Nearly everything I learned at Canton I fast track learned again in military tech school for a cyber job. I wasn't required to pay for it or take a mandatory ENG 101 course. Lastly, upstate NY is a boring, desolate, cold, Rust Belt like area for anyone considering studying there who is not from such a place. I do miss the friendships & had great experiences in Canton.̈

This school was nothing but a nightmare for me. The Financial aid office screwed me up. I did a whole semester, fine and great. Come second semester I’m in class for over a month and they pull me out in the hall to tell me something is wrong with everything and that I shouldn’t have been coming to class and everything I did for the month didn’t count. Took me years to pay back that loan for absolutely NOTHING. Every time I needed some help, they’d make me an appointment, and I’d trek through snow a mile away just for them to cancel on me. As an adult already working full-time SUNY Caton was one of the only universities which made obtaining a degree possible. They offer online degrees in bachelors, associates, and certificate degrees. There is vast yet concise range of academic majors which are applicable in the current job market. This is the 4th (yes 4th) university I have attended. the others were in Chicago, California, and N.J. I can honestly say the issues I have run into here are no worse or better than issues I've experienced at the other schools. THIS SCHOOL DOESN'T CARE ABOUT THEIR STUDENTS!!! Compared to other colleges ASU is so UNORGANIZED. Work orders take months to get fixed. The food is Always horrible. Pizza Hut and Subway always run out of food. They never have anything and they are always so slow. it takes 30 mins to get a personal pan pizza. Housing is a mess; some students are homeless because its bed bugs in there room. South hall has mold in there building and only 3 out of 7 washers work. Its a hassle to wash with 200 people in one building and it just seems like nobody cares about us. Last semester it took 4 months to receive my student refund check while it took other colleges 1 month. They kicked students out of school the first month for having a balance on there account but it took them 4 months to pay students their money. (We even made it to the news for having slow financial aid. ) I wont be returning, this school is slow when it comes to fixing problems but when it comes to them getting paid they have no issues kicking students out.Moesha

The Albany State University website states that they are making our health and safety their number one priority— unfortunately, I have not seen any evidence that their statement is correct. I have noticed that hand sanitizer and masks are easily accessible around campus. However, there are some students and even professors who are not wearing their masks. While attending my class, I also noticed that we had no distance between us in a very small classroom. Under these circumstances, I do not feel safe attending my classes, and I am sure I’m not the only one who feels that way. In addition, It’s disappointing to me that covid-19 cases are rising and the majority of courses being offered are all in person. I get that people want to go back, but it would be nice to at least have the option to keep being remote since it’s working out better for a few of us.Val B

Straight As but with horrible problems. The issues started before I even transferred to the CDL program. When I was a general student my adviser (at that time) told me that Independent studies were only available on site; not true. When I asked her why I couldn't take all my classes online, as advertised, she said that there was no fully online option; not true. I transferred to CDL because the woman at the FRONT DESK apparently knew more than my adviser. But once in CDL, I realized I was essentially on my own, and under the thumb of a lot of incompetent people. CDL is extremely unorganized and separate from the rest of the school. You have to be under an adviser to do anything, and if they're incompetent it can totally derail getting a degree plan approved. The process ruined my ambition for school for a whole year and a half afterward. School is my escape, and I lost that. When I read the guidelines/requirements for the degree plan, I knew exactly what needed to be done. When I asked for clarification my adviser mislead me on every aspect of the process. I wrote (1) 70 page plan, (1) 50 page plan, then (1) 32 page plan– NONE of which were even read. The ONLY PERSON responsible for putting committees together for approving plans was the rudest person I have ever spoken to via email. He also could not effectively explain why my degree titles were not appropriate until the final plan. This process made me insane because I knew what was necessary in the first place– a basic, straight forward, 5-7 page plan….something cohesive and to the point. I literally had to educate them on what "Interdisciplinary" even meant. Everyone kept forcing "Multidisciplinary" studies on me– which is something different. I'm still surprised at how many problems I had to deal with. They wanted to impose on me what they knew how to do…. They're not used to students actually wanting to be scholars. My original plan was degraded by my adviser (and changed without consent!! What she changed were vital points, and she even submitted it with errors). She told me incorrect information, which made me feel defeated, and she suggested irrelevant things. By the end I felt extremely manipulated. After almost 2 years she finally admitted that she didn't know what she was doing and reached out to other advisers experienced in "Interdisciplinary Studies." But by that point I had already talked to 7 people for help, which went no where. I had already spent 2 years trying to get out from under her ignorance– My morale was already ruined. But the advisers she reached out to were supportive of my plans. They were excited about them– too bad my adviser refused to share their names!!! Extremely frustrating system, very bad organizational issues. Financial aid also "forgot" to submit my application for scholarships when I was nominated– Financial aid also told me that someone denominated me. They said that they were looking at a letter stating that they did not recommend me– then upon closer inspection, financial aid said that there was never a letter, they had no idea who said it, and that it's not even possible. Furthermore, teachers cannot nominate you! Only your adviser can nominate. This to me is ridiculous, as my professors actually see/read my work. While, I've received honors scholarships since then, it's still frustrating that no one knows what they're even doing. By the time I got to the SINGLE PERSON who could help me the damage had already been done, and I had already dealt with it all by myself, and never got the degree title I even wanted– which would have been acceptable per FAFSA/Federal regulations. The teachers however are fantastic and the literature from the courses I've taken have taken root in my heart. I absolutely adore the pieces of literature relevant to course material in my field (Cultural Studies: Philosophy, History, Literature), and independent studies are awesome. That's the only reason I can still recommend this school. I have also met 2 other students who have had asinine issues like my own, some worse.Stephanie Michelle (JOY)

This review is based on my experience of one online class this college provided, which I was able to transfer credits from. The online class I took was principles of finance (BME), cost me about $1300. My professor was J. Visconti. I had to retake this course b/c i failed it at my main university. I learn more retaking this course than I did my first try. Several reasons: I had a Great professor. We used excel (better tool and relevant) instead of a old school financial calculator. Instructor's commentary of the lessons were impeccably relevant and sound) I was able to further understand the connections between real world usage of the learned knowledge. In my case, YES, online version of this course is much better than class room style. Since, I have taken both styles of classes, I would recommend taking "principles of finance" online, preferably with J. Visconti. If business is not your major, i would still recommend this class for personal knowledge. For me, this class was required as an elective for my major and I am glad I took it online.Richard Lim

Overall if you’re an adult with limited time this is the college for you. There are better colleges out there but this isn’t the worst either. It is an accredited Suny school which I think holds more value over some of these diploma mills. The college isn’t supportive and the mentors from my experience do absolutely nothing. In their defense though it can be quite hard because they are full-time professors as well. The problem is that they require a mentor to hold a doctorate degree which is absolutely ridiculous. You don’t need one to help students plan their degrees. There are many professional and outstanding people who work here and there are many that are the opposite.Kelly Shaw-Hewes

I love this school.. The staff is super friendly, all the teachers know who you are and want you to succeed… I graduated the LPN program and I loved all the nursing teachers. They are always there if you have a question and they want you to succeed. The director dr. Millenbach was there for me every time I came into her office with a problem, she immediately stop what she was doing to talk to me and help me however she could. I passed by boards the first just like almost everyone in my class.. They prepared us very well for the boards.. I am also employed less than 2 months after graduation. If your looking for a nursing school with the small town feel Maria is your choice. One door closes another one alway opens, Maria is your open door!Brandi Luallen

Love my school!!! Ive been to 5 different colleges. Wish I came to Maria First. Would recommend this school to anyone. Real education, excellent environment, organized and loved all my professors. It's really lovely that ACPHS has been doing construction in a building students live in all semester 🙂 The best part is that it now occurs every day of the week beginning at 7 AM and finals week is next week (not like students need sleep or the ability to study in peace and quiet or anything). Maybe next time the college undertakes a big construction project, they should consider doing it in the summer. Oh, I forgot to mention the asbestos they removed… hope they did that properly.Rachel Flood

My time at BSC were some of the best years of my life. I made a ton of great lifelong friends and connections with amazing teachers, classmates, and other staff. Loved it so much I've gone back for two more degrees. Everyone here is so open, friendly, and supportive. Teachers get to know you personally and are always ready to help you out.Krystal King

BSC is a phenomenal school. They work with my schedule and are very understanding of life situations that arise. The instructors take time to make sure you understand the material. The staff is fantastic and are very knowledgeable. If you're looking for a school that gives you a degree and prepares you for the workforce, this is it.Cameron Kirkpatrick

My Mom has been a resident at Atria Shaker since November 2019. It has been a positive experience from the beginning. The staff was wonderful – helpful, friendly, professional. It's a beautiful building, very clean, lovely dining room, social areas, and easy to get around. There are numerous activities every day – something for everyone. And it gave us a sense of peace to know that there were staff checking up on her throughout the day – while also giving her privacy and dignity. Community meals in the dining room provided important socialization, and were varied and healthy. Since early March when the pandemic hit New York Atria Shaker went into quarantine immediately. We felt reassured and secure, knowing that she was in a safe place where they were following CDC guidelines, protocol, and taking every precaution. The executive director, Jennifer Zacharek was incredible; sending out regular emails/newsletters to let us know exactly what was going on – and why. This kind of transparency was greatly appreciated. She and the staff brought three meals each day to the residents in their rooms – delivered along with friendly conversation. Those small and meaningful touches mean a lot. Our Mom feels very safe and cared for – and this gives us great comfort. (and they have an app which gives daily updates, too) I would recommend Atria Shaker for anyone looking for an assistive living facility that's stimulating, supportive, and friendly.Carol Lavender

My Mom was at Atria Shaker and Atria Crossgates for almost 2 years and she was treated with so much love from both places and everyone was very helpful to her and my self all the time. Kristyn the director at both places was very helpful knowing that my mom needed more than just assisted living she needed memory care as well and was able to help get her into Atria Shaker. JJ the memory care director was so great in helping transition my mom to another new place for her and it was very hard to see her in her new state of mind but everyone took very good care of her when i could not be there with her everyday like i was used to before covid. Atria is a great place and thank everyone for taking great care of my mom while she was there. She is now in a nursing home.Kristen Farry

My family is very grateful to the Atria staff. The team here from the Executive Director down has positively impacted our mothers life beyond anything we could have imagined in the past 6 months. They even got her to point in her life to where she traveled on a plane by herself to see family. I wouldnt have fathomed this 6 months ago. My Mom has such a better quality of life because of the team at the Atria. I highly recommend the Atria if you are looking to provide a loved one with a better quality of life due to what ever it is they ha e faced or a facing.
